Harry Styles is always smiling. In the six months I’ve been working at the recording studio everyone of my coworkers has the same story. He walks into the building with the biggest smile on his face accompanied by an equally charming “Good Morning.” Shortly after his daily arrival, his team will start funneling in always nice but never with the same amount of pep in their step.

When I first landed the job at one of the most sought after recording studios in Los Angeles, I knew I would meet my fair share of famous people. What I wasn’t ready for was the disappointment that would come with it. I work the front of the house which is a really fancy way to say I’m a receptionist. My job is to order the food, pick up the phone and be the emotional punching bag for artists and their team.

Today, I was late. I am never late. In normal circumstances this wouldn’t be a big deal. There would be someone else to let the team in and I would have a string of “I’m so sorry” texts lined up for my boss. However, today is the first day of songwriting sessions for Harry Styles and his team and I was the only one scheduled.

Fuck.

He shook his head. He knew. None of it had been simple, except for the way her smile lit him up from the inside. The way her touch ignited every nerve in his body. If he was really, truly honest with himself, loving her was the simplest thing he’d ever done. It was like breathing.

But their circumstances…that was another, much more complicated story. Somehow it always had been.

Carefully, she approached the altar. This much, she could manage.

She picked up a candle and set aflame a new one for Harry.

As she lowered the candle carefully back into place, her gaze landed upon a door nearby. And unlike the others scattered around the church, it led into a small booth. A confessional.

She found it empty once inside, slowly dropping her tired, weary body onto the seat, closing the door behind her. Crossing herself, she sighed. There was no priest to listen, but she’d confess anyway.

If only she’d thought to do the same to Harry.

The last time you spent a long time analyzing paintings was when your mom came to visit you in the city and the two of you went to the MET together.

There were walls and walls of art that you didn’t really know the context to – ranging from the medieval period to the surge of postmodernism – things that you had remembered but didn’t really know what they meant. At the time, your mother had been the one excited to go, but the more hours you spent at the museum, the more you found a liking to the art.

That said, that was the last time you really went to a gallery. That was until this past month.

You didn’t really know how long you had spent inside the small gallery.

Harry lingered by your side for a bit, telling you that if you had any questions about the art or if you wanted him to stay by your side, he could do just that.

You had told him not to worry about you, luckily just as Aleena came by your side and gave you enough of a reason without telling him to go away.

You didn’t want him to go away, you actually did want to stay by his side.
