first, monster high:

1. Draculaura (Scaris: City of Frights, Mattel, 2012)

i snagged this doll from a flea market in 2021. somehow, the only thing missing is her purse. she even has her earrings! she's got some fairly bad glue seepage going on with her hair, but it styled decently for now, so i'm gonna tackle it later.

2. Frankie Stein (MH G1: First Wave – Boo-Riginal Creeproduction, Mattel, 2022)

i found this at my local walmart and nearly had a fucking STROKE, i was so excited. I Fucking Love Her. frankie has always been my favourite, and i'm so happy to own this creeproduction, especially considering what a nightmare distribution was in canada. the fact that this frankie made it to my grubby paws at all is proof that god is real.

3. Spectra Vondergeist (Ghoul's Night Out, Mattel, 2013)

growing up, i only had three MH dolls: a second wave frankie, a boo beach cleo de nile, and this spectra. spectra is the only childhood survivor, because i begged and pleaded for AGES to get her for christmas, because she was a GHOST and OF COURSE i wanted the fucking ghost. once i got her in my hands, i treated her like she was made of fucking gold.

she's missing her purse and vinyl vest right now, because i had to undress her for the first time ever recently in an attempt to give her a bath (which did fuck all). she's got a SEVERE case of glue seepage in her hair, as well as some brutal UV yellowing that i'm gonna have to paint over. but she's my fucking baby, and i'm gonna get her fixed up.

4. Frankie Stein (MH G3: First Wave, Mattel, 2022)

i was really iffy on G3 at first, but it has grown on me so much. i couldn't fucking believe it when i heard that frankie is canonically nonbinary in the reboot, i was ecstatic. they're fucking AWESOME, they are SO TALL, i love their face sculpt and their outfit and their accessories (which are not pictured) and their prosthetic leg is so cute and the graffiti on the leg is upside down so you can tell frankie did it themself and AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

5. Draculaura (MH G3: First Wave, Mattel, 2022)

draculaura is the always a slay. the reboot draculaura is absolutely not an exception. i'm fucking obsessed with this lil bitch, she was the first G3 doll i grabbed. she's an icon, a fashion queen, and she's chubby. i'd be here for years if i tried explaining how much that means to me.

i've always been a wannabe skater, even though my balance is absolute shite (but i AM working on that). my motivation behind buying lol dolls is never that deep, i just see their colours and their outfits and i go OOH SHINEY and then i'm at home fighting for my life to get into the box. idk man. they're all cute at fuck.

3 + 4: Punk Grrrl & Rocker Boi (OMG – Remix 2-Pack, MGA, 2020)

in summer of 2022, my family was on vacation on prince edward island, and we needed to kill a few hours while waiting for check-in to open up at the second campground we'd be staying at. my parents are my enablers, so they decided the best way to kill said hours was to set me loose on the toys 'r' us in charlottetown. my wallet hurt after and it ROCKED. these guys were part of my haul!

these motherfuckers have the goofiest goddamn names in the world, but i forgive them, because they are a slay. they're so cute together. their outfits are fantastic. the sides of her head are flocked so her undercut is fuzzy. they have guitars. HE'S A BOY. i love them.

5. Darcy Blush (Tweens – Series 4, MGA, 2022)

this lil lady is the latest addition to my collection, i grabbed her last week. she's very aesthetically different from the other lol dolls i have, but i could not walk away from her. i even tried, but right before we left, i ran back to the toys and grabbed her. her face is so sweet, her colour scheme is darling, and the coloured braids in her hair are so sweet ;____;

these are some miscellaneous dolls, we're moving into the barbie realm:

1. Jacob Black, Bella Swan & Edward Cullen (Barbie Collector: Pink Label – The Twilight Saga, Mattel, 2009)

i got these for christmas in 2009. my mum was super into twilight at that point, i showed interest in her interests (Because She Is My Mummy), and boom. dolls.

she didn't want me to take them out of the box, since they're collector's editions.

naturally, they were removed from their boxes Fucking Immediately, because i was EIGHT. and to this day, i am still not an in-box collector (save for a couple of wrestling action figures i have). these three are very well loved. bonus points: edward's entire body is sparkly!!

2. Heather Grayson (Rainbow High – Shadow High: Series 1, MGA, 2022)

she's just a slay. idk what to tell you. i'm a sucker for split dye hair on dolls, man.

3. Elsa (Disney's Frozen II – Musical Adventure Elsa, Hasbro, 2019)

again, no complicated answer here. i love elsa. she means a lot to me. when you press the button on her chest, she sings "show yourself"!

4. Sasha (Bratz Rock Angelz – 20 Yearz Special Edition Reproduction, MGA, 2021)

i had a sasha doll as a kid, though it wasn't this exact one. she's my forever fave of the core four bratz. i got this doll on that same toys 'r' us trip in PEI, and she's so cute. i need to actually watch the rock angelz movie (i've somehow never seen ANY bratz movies).

and now, barbie:

1. Princess Rosella (Barbie as The Island Princess, Mattel, 2007)

none of these dolls are in very good condition, because all four of them are mine from childhood. this ro doll literally only has the dress and sagi the red panda left; everything else that she came with was lost to time, moves and general kell behaviours. but, when you press the button on her necklace, SHE STILL FUCKIN' SINGS! THAT'S A W

2 + 3. Princess Alexa & Princess Liana (Barbie & The Diamond Castle, Mattel, 2008)

oh my fucking god i abused these lil whores. alexa's face has been drawn on with pink highlighter (which, to my credit, you can't really tell. shoutout to my younger self, hashtag beauty guru moment). liana's dress-transformation mechanism is so worn out that i swear to god breathing on her wrong will trigger the audio chip in it, resulting in this grating, tinny sparkle sound effect. their shoes and tiaras are with jesus now, but shockingly, i still have One (1) of their hairbrushes. but SOMEHOW, SOME FUCKING WAY, THEY STILL SING AND LIGHT UP, TOO. i never said they sound particularly good. BUT THEY WORK AND THAT'S WHAT MATTERS.

bonus points: their dresses' colour schemes are like the bisexual and lesbian pride flags respectively, which shreds absolute puss. and it's doubly fantastic because the diamond castle is THEE gay barbie movie. these girls are homosexual.

4. Barbie (Barbie Hair-Tastic! Color & Design Salon, Mattel, 2012)

there's no movie tie-in for this doll. she came with a salon chair, some stencils, and some spray bottles full of coloured liquid. you could "spray paint" her hair, then wash the colour right back out. i don't have the other pieces anymore, but i still have the barbie. unfortunately, i very recently melted off a section of her hair by accident while trying to straighten it (adhd moment, forgot to wet the strand), but thankfully that section is well-hidden and hardly noticeable. i just think she's pretty.

(her outfit, however, is a fuckin' SIN i hate it so bad lmfao)

and i just bought these two today, and i am so excited i think i could keel over right the fuck now:

1. Rayla the Cloud Queen (Barbie and The Magic of Pegasus, Mattel, 2005)

she has all her pieces, and she comes with a pegasus.

she is so fucking gorgeous. i cannot believe my luck right now. rayla has never even been on my wishlist, she just comes with the annika doll. this is a complete and utter win for me. everything is coming up millhouse kell ybcpatrick.

2. Princess Annika (Barbie and The Magic of Pegasus, Mattel, 2005)

I HAVE BEEN WAITING TO OWN THIS BITCH FOR EIGHTEEN FUCKING YEARS. EIGHTEEN. MOTHERFUCKING. YEARS. OF. MY. LIFE. AND SHE'S GOING TO BE MINE. AND SHE HAS ALL OF HER ACCESSORIES. AND SHE COMES WITH THE LIGHT-UP WAND. SHE EVEN HAS INSTRUCTIONS.

magic of pegasus is my favourite barbie movie of all time. this is childhood wish fulfillment x1000. i'm convinced once this doll gets here, at least two of my mental illnesses are gonna be cured instantaneously. i might honestly cry once i get to hold her. i'm not over it i will never be over it i'm fucking losing my mind out here.

I finished watching Shaman King 2021 yesterday! Some scattered thoughts on Episodes 38-52!

So much happened in this episode but absolutely everything has been wiped from my brain because WHAT is Marco's battle outfit —

I really need Team The Ren to win this fight!

Yoh finally gets to share his big news, lol

Man, the X-Laws' reveal was a big deal but again, it went at a 100 miles an hour so there wasn't much space/time to absorb everything... and I can't believe how huge that table has gotten, lol

Marco is. A dope.

Episode 40

For me, a Team Horohoro fan, this episode was... truly a lot. I want to know his full story (and despite what Yoh and Ren say, I know that they do, too). He was seriously amazing and guh, just such a fantastic character. I loves the kanji and etymology lesson from Hao, too.

I'm still kinda shocked that Yoh is back in the Shaman Fight as I thought that his being out of the game was a massive divergence that was going to set the series apart, but the way things have worked out is pretty cool!

And the Five Elemental warriors are gonna come from Gandhara, huh? Nice!

The new ending is GORGEOUS. Whoa whoa.

(Also, finally getting some closure for why Yoh has felt so off — poor chilled boy is so stressed.)

Jun having trained with Sati? Whoa! And having the mana to resurrect THREE people? When Faust could only do one? I have some questions, but I'm happy my girl is involved!

But since Anna has also mastered the Ultra Senji Ryakketsu, surely she should also be able to resurrect people?

This is so wild but it's exciting so I'll roll with it!

Episode 44

ANNA VS HAO and there are still so many secrets there? THE TENSION.

And then the coffee!! I'm so glad that Yohsen is somehow still around fjfjf

Though damn, Hao, you cheapskate: pay your damn bill!

Tao Ran and Tao Yúan on screen together, yahoo! (Flipping heck, I loved those moments when Ren was so embarrassed about his family cheering him on, lolol)

BUT BLOODY HELL THIS BATTLE. TBH I really want Team The Ren to win because I do feel that they've got Yoh outclassed... the Ren/Horo lightning/ice combo is just too good. Though wow, Horohoro is MAD.

Episode 45

I'm so close to the end and I'm so sad!

Phew, so we find out which elements the boyos are going to have! I was fully expecting Yoh to have fire, so I was super surprised that it'll be Lyserg instead. Joco with the 'Wind of Change' makes sense, as does Ren with lightning (though I'm surprised that this was an element over metal, tbh, especially since Ren made some comments about Yoh's mastery of metal where Spirit of Sword was concerned) and Horohoro with water. Yoh as the sturdy earth guy is good.

(I'm slightly angsty for Ryu... there wasn't much of an explanation from Sati and Gandhara about precisely why the Elemental Warriors had to be kiddos, apart from the established conversation about adults knowing their ceilings. I assume that there's a bit more detail in the manga.)

This fight against the rest of the world, though? Huh, dramatic! I'm a bit sketchy about the whole laser thing becaaause I thought that was spiritual energy that was fired at the island, but it couldn't have been if the whole world is aware of it? So I have questions!

Everyone chillding in the hot spring is so cute, good gracious.

Waaaa the adults are having a barbecue and the kids are fighting for their lives and we are losing healers left and right and Opacho can read minds and there are still SO MANY REVELATIONS crikeyyyy

The tone changes are so odd to keep up with; one second, Redseb and Seyrarm are dying and the next, Kalim is bringing everyone dinner and the guys are taking a break to recover mana when it's been explicitly stated they have 15 hours to save the world! This is so whack to me.

WAIT I nearly missed that there was a ton of stuff after the credits and djhff Horohoro doesn't like his full name?

Episode 50

Oh man, the way Tamiko died was actually harrowing and then she's revealed to be Kororo and Ren's just like. Horohoro is now in dope mode we must ignore him fhfjjlfj

Ren has been taking on most of these fights and his battle against Nichrom was swift, but cool; I loved Joco vs Thalim though — and Thalim himself was adorable!

Episode 51

ALL THE ELEMENTAL SPIRITS VS HAO!

I'm weeping Shaman King is so special the whole thing is just WE WILL DEFEAT THE BADDIE WITH THE POWER OF LOVE.

Episode 52

I definitely cried during the last episode because parts of the ending were so beautiful; everyone coming together to show Hao that he could be saved — that salvation is in accepting your humanity and believing in the humanity of others. And I found Hao's mother's words so freaking soothing... I'm glad that Hao missing his mother was foreshadowed earlier, but we could have had more of that, I think.

And sure, they haven't fixed the world by 2007, but that is OKAY — most of them are around 22 and at that age, I was a wreck! So they have time and their lives to look forward to and... and I guess I disagree with the folks who say that the end of Shaman King is bad because they feel 'everything was pointless'; there's a lot to do and, even with guardian ghosts, shamans can't do everything alone.

I think this is an anime I could definitely rewatch, at some point. Wow. I love these characters and, as much as I griped about this, that and the other, I loved this story.

And I think it's so interesting that Yoh just. Didn't end up as the Shaman King djbdfh that;s definitely not what I was expecting!

I thought my output this year had really waned, but I only completed one more fic in 2020 and 2021. My word count has been pretty consistent, with this year's actually being higher than 2021 (107k) and 2020 (113k). So maybe I need to be kinder to myself. It's truly just having the specter of a massively long wip looming for a second year running.

Since I included SAE in last year's review, I'm going to stick with the three fics I haven't talked about yet. All I ever talk about is SAE anyway. However, I think this works better for writers with more fics to talk about because there would be less repetition in the answers.

It's supposed to be a holiday filled with music, history, and more vampire fangs than Simon Snow has ever dreamed of. But when a flying fiend claiming to be Count Dracula himself shows up, warning tourists and locals alike to stay away from the famous ruins of Whitby Abbey, Simon and the rest of the Enigma Ltd. gang know they've got another mystery on their hands. Matters are only further complicated when Simon's longtime professional rival, Tyrannus Basilton "Baz" Grimm-Pitch of Pitch Paranormal Investigations, swoops in with perfect hair to steal Enigma Ltd.'s case.

"Will the gang manage to solve the mystery in time to save Whitby from the Count and his Curse? And more importantly, will Simon solve the mystery of his very confusing feelings for Baz?"

I could see this one printed on the back of a Scooby Doo DVD clamshell. (I absolutely do check out Scooby Doo DVDs from my library every Halloween.)

Again, I was being coy. This probably should have been something like: "Baz decides to give Simon's cock a worthy nickname. Unapologetic puns ensue." You know, after I did this last year, I actually revised my worst summary to make the changes that I felt would improve it. Maybe I'll do that with this one, too. Maybe.

"The existence (if one can be so bold as to call it that) of a blue plate diner denizen holds all the shine one can find on a cloudy-water-spotted soup spoon. There are occasional flashes of warm, bright pink neon ("open 24 hours") to give you the sense of a rose-tinted view, but by and large, the days offer little more variety and adventure than stuck-on food and creeping rust stains.

"In this place, soup spoons are to solitary condiments like myself what reflecting pools are to Narcissus."

Okay, maybe this is a bit too long to consider a line, but oh well. I hate writing descriptions of physical places. I would much prefer my characters just float around in a void and have endless amounts of banter-laden dialogue. But the diner was integral to this story and I think I did a pretty good job with it, introducing it along with our narrator, pancake syrup!Baz, and using it to set the mood.

"It was a dark and stormy night."

This was obviously intentionally done, so I'm okay with it. Except for the fact that somewhere along the way, the period disappeared without me noticing so it just sat there with no punctuation for weeks. The very first sentence. Off to a strong start.

best/worst last line?

"Hey, Baz," she said. "How come you're not in costume?"

You need the context for this one to make sense, but trust me. I love how punchy it turned out, and also that it wasn't planned. I just knew in the moment.

Also, ICBHNB is somewhat open-ended, but I do really like how the last sentence revisits the opening of the fic and shows how much Baz has changed his mind about his "life" now that Simon is in it.

"We never do get back to Baz’s list."

It's okay, but it's a bit lacking in impact after the repartee immediately before it. This was just my way of fading to black so I didn't have to actually write the sex.

looking back, did you write more fics than you thought you would this year, fewer than you thought, or about what you predicted?

Fewer. I thought I'd finally wrap on SAE and be able to tackle more of my other ideas. I had been determined not to write anything else until it was complete, but at some point I decided it was healthier for me to indulge a side fic now and again for the sake of my creative sanity. I didn't want to start resenting SAE because I couldn't work on other things. More to look forward to next year…

what pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted last year?

I didn't think I'd ever have cause to write pancake syrup/margarine. But here we are.

what's your favorite story this year? not the most popular, but the one that makes you the happiest?

It's so hard to choose. I'm really happy with all of them and they're all very different things. I suppose SSADC because I've been working on that concept off and on since I got into fandom and it was nowhere near as clever or funny in my early drafts and planning. I was frustrated with it for a long time, but then it ended up being so much better for the delay. And it's done!!!!! I'm incredibly proud of it.

okay, now your most popular story?

I never know what the best metric is to judge this by? I suppose kudos?

BAON leads in kudos for the year, so I'll say that. Which makes sense. It's the closest I came to smut.

story most underappreciated by the universe?

SSADC and ICBHNB are my least kudoesed(?) over all years so I think they just didn’t find their audience.

story that could have been better?

I know I said I wasn't going to talk about SAE, but damn it could be SHORTER. I find myself most critical of it because I've sat with it for so long. But I still wouldn't change any of it. I always kind of avoid this question.

sexiest story?

Hmm. It probably should be BAON since it is about cocks, but I kind of want to say ICBHNB because that margarine!Simon does spread on awfully smooth… How many fics can boast a completely appropriate use of the word 'nubbin' anyway?

saddest story?

None of my finished fics were sad, but SAE definitely goes there with the deep emotions, so that one gets the honor.

most fun?

SSADC

I wrote a theme song! Lucy the dog dashes into action against "Dracula" wearing a Dracula dog costume. Simon chucks bricks at creepy hooded cultists because Penny didn't let him bring his sword. Baz and Simon absolutely do not speedwalk race down the street to the Whitby library. Penny’s skirt has pockets! No one ever gives Baz a leaflet. BJ and the CUNTS! Penis window. I need to reread this fic.

story with the single sweetest moment?

SSADC

Simon feeds Baz pieces of mint Aero while they're sharing a bed. That was pretty sweet. (Get it, sweet?)

Honorable mention to ICBHNB for being sweetest fic overall, in that the narrator is literally pancake syrup.

hardest story to write?

SSADC

Which I've been trying to write unsuccessfully since very early 2020 (does anyone remember very early 2020?). This version of the fic did give me some hiccups along the way, but finally sorting out the POV and tone of the fic was key, as was the timely Dracula tie-in. It finally felt right this time and I look forward to continuing the adventures of Enigma Ltd. and Pitch Paranormal Investigations.

easiest/most fun story to write?

I'm being difficult and answering with all three fics!

Easiest is a tie between the one shots: ICBHNB and BAON. Short and also mostly crack. I'd had both ideas tossing around in my head for a while and once the mood hit for each of them, they came about pretty quickly.

Most fun: SSADC (for the reasons stated under the other kind of "most fun" above)

did any stories shift your perceptions of the characters?

I'm boring with this one and usually say 'no', but I will say that SSADC was my first time really writing the classic SnowBaz "enemies" to lovers dynamic. I think I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it, because I tend to shy away from that. Not sure if that will inform fic writing decisions going forward, but considering that nearly all of my ideas at the moment are But-What-If-SnowBaz AUs, the dynamics are mostly determined by how I'm adapting the worlds of the various AUs.

most overdue story?

did you take any writing risks this year? what did you learn from them?

Everything felt like a risk while I had a 100k+ wip. Staying in more lighthearted and cracky territory wasn't necessarily a risk, but certainly something that took me out of my comfort zone as a fic writer. Really, I think I just needed to give myself permission for it.

this year's theme and the story that demonstrates it?

Perseverance.

what are your fic writing goals for next year?

See above.

Seriously, though, my main goal is to wrap SAE and make sure it's satisfying for all the build up—for me and its readers. Aside from that, I have a whole list of prompts for myself and I think I'm really just waiting to get inspired about which one to work on first. I have my Bond AU pretty much entirely plotted out, so you'd think it would be that one. But I also want to do a second part for my Scooby AU. And maybe finally write that The Holiday AU. Or Galaxy Quest. Or Troop Beverly Hills. Or Bell Book and Candle. Or or or…

Here's a good goal: I would like to not write any more dactylic hexameter.

CONTEXT: the nxx members are kdrama addicts! what type of kdrama watchers are they, what are their favourite kdramas, and what are their favourite kdrama genres?

i can't see him as the type to watch the typical romance kdramas as entertainment. but if they're for research purposes (as supplements to his so-called study in introduction to the psychology of love and attraction), sure (courtesy of overhearing the ladies in the workplace talking about an actor from the latest kdrama, of course)!

he's the kind to watch kdramas related to crime, like city hunter (2011) and defendant (2017)

if he watches legal dramas, he really scrutinises everything and gets lowkey triggered when the wrong articles and such are used

however, if he's watching kdramas for romance research purposes, he gets recommendations from celestine and she directs him to the super cheesy ones, like he's beautiful (2009) and weightlifting fairy kim bokjoo (2016)

as mockingbird, he will rate and review all the kdramas he's watched. he personally hates love alarm (2019-2021) because he thinks the plot doesn't make sense at all.

okay but here's a take: he watches the old kdramas. i'm talking about those from the early 2010s.

he watches them just to make fun of everything as well. he's super critical about everything and psychoanalyses everything, the smartass.

another hot take: he watches the period kdramas from the early 2010s. i'm talking about dong yi (2010), the moon embraces the sun (2012), and faith (2012). he likes the old film aesthetics (as compared to kdramas from 2019 onwards) and how dramatic everything is, how everyone retaliates by screaming and the most dramatic scenes of the empress dowager fainting.

he will never tell anyone about his kdrama addiction though, unless you're his special someone

this guy will not publicly admit it (unless it's with close friends like rosa) but he's into the high school romance dramas! i'm talking about those slowburn types with a dense female lead and two male leads who are super obvious about their feelings.

he most likely watches those from the 2010s (as what i call, the kdrama prime where there's really good plots), like heartstrings (2011), the heirs (2013), and sassy go go (2015)

he also watches the sad ones when he's in his sad emo times. his favourite sad series is the endless love series (2000-2006), because someone in each season is always dying, and he relates to it on a spiritual level.

he probably got into the kdrama kick because of rosa. before luke left, they watched kdramas together every saturday night. he didn't watch kdramas on any saturday night because he felt guilty about not watching them with rosa. so when he returned to stellis, they resumed their kdrama saturday nights!

romcom queen! anything that's funny and full of cute romance is up her alley!

her personal favourites are extraordinary you (2019), a love so beautiful (2020), and business proposal (2022).

she also likes the ones with some action, thriller, and suspense elements to it (which run alongside the main romance theme), like strong woman do bongsoon (2017) and hotel del luna (2019).

when luke left, she didn't even want to do kdrama saturday night. like luke, she felt guilty watching kdramas on her own on saturday night without him, so she spent those eight years not watching kdramas on saturday night. so when he returned, she made sure to go over to his apartment (or he would go over to hers when she's too swamped up with work) to watch whatever new kdrama that's trending.

she definitely had a nxx sleepover with the boys and watched kdramas with them hehe

first and foremost, this guy is capable and will binge one kdrama season in one night. he is not above sacrificing his (already limited hours of) sleep to do so. (he will only do this if he thinks that it is worth bingeing.)

he's also the type to watch whatever kdrama(s) his crush/s/o watches or likes just to have a conversation

he likes watching the dramatic ones with wrist grabs, multiple close-ups of kiss scenes, and the intense yelling. he also thinks those cliché scenes with the rich mom telling the poor female lead to break up with her son are lame (he will actually yell "boo!" and frown at the screen).

he also does a lot of running commentary. this man canNOT shut up.

his favourites are moon lovers: scarlet heart ryeo (2016), love alarm (2019-2021), and a love so beautiful (2020). he's still waiting for a moon lovers: scarlet heart ryeo s2 and will not accept the ending of the series as the final ending.

what's wrong with secretary kim? (2018) has a special place in his heart because he and giann watched it repeatedly when he was younger

— AND SO, THE NXX "TEAM-BUILDING" SLEEPOVER WENT SOMETHING LIKE THIS:

the sleepover was suggested by rosa (under the guise of a team-building exercise), because she thought they could all use an evening to spend time with one another and get to know each other better! they were all awkward about the idea at first, but it doesn't take much convincing from rosa for them to agree to it (she brought up the kdramas).

they went to artem's house because this guy has a fancy in-house movie setup and they connected marius' ipad to the projector because he has a netflix account (which luke says "needs to be abused")

all the boys let rosa to pick their kdrama for the night and rosa flat-out refused, because that's not fair to the others and they should all have an equal chance of picking a kdrama to watch.

they tried to convince her that it's fine, she can pick something out and they're all cool with it, but rosa went full attorney mode and fought with them (verbally) and managed to convince them that they will all pick one out together. that! is! all!

marius originally suggested love alarm, but artem was against it, and was going to fight marius about how it would waste everyone's time but rosa managed to stop them before there was going to be ww3

vyn suggested empress ki, but luke argued that it would take forever to watch since it was 50+ episodes long and they had, at best, 10 hours to spare (if they didn't sleep). they still wouldn't get past 20 episodes if they watched it all at 2x speed

multiple arguments and one exhaused rosa later, she rubbed her temples and halted the debate. a lightbulb popped over her head as she said, "okay boys, what about he is psychometric?"

they agreed and rosa searched the kdrama up, then they all settled down on the couch to watch it

everyone was quiet (save for the sounds of chewing of fruit (prepared by artem)). however, marius kept running his mouth off (as usual) and luke had to grab a pillow to smack it over his head and say, "marius, keep it down! we're all trying to watch this and you're breaking our focus."

begrudgingly, marius snatched the pillow away and hugged it to his chest as he pursed his lips into a straight line to keep his comments to a minimum

when it hit 10pm (they were on episode 2), vyn was out like a light. artem had blankets prepared and rosa carefully draped it over their resident sleeping beauty.

at 11pm (halfway through episode 3), artem fell asleep, leaning on vyn just slightly. rosa adjusted the blankets so that both of them were covered.

at around 1am (near the end of episode 5), marius fell asleep (he had been working late the past few nights and had been running on a couple of hours' worth of sleep) on luke's shoulder, and rosa moved to grab a blanket for him

rosa lasted another hour and fell asleep at 2am (during episode 6). carefully, luke shifted marius so he could grab a blanket to drape it over her before switching marius' ipad and the projector off. he moved rosa's head so that her head would rest on his shoulder before he went to sleep as well.

all in all, a successful team-building sleepover!

throwback to my first time seeing harry. in tacoma, on november 7th, 2021. a few months after falling down the rabbit hole. no turning back.

had to fly from vancouver to seattle because land borders where still closed.

and i had to larrie inconspicuously, of course.

i don't take many photos/videos during shows, but here are some, i guess.

and of course, one of my favorite things during lot '21.

the boop boops! (that's not my laugh btw, i do do every boop though)

maybe, i'll make other reminiscing posts. we'll see.

storytime: tacoma is like almost an hour away from seattle, where i was staying at a hostal. i don't drive and i'd gone alone, so my plan was to take an uber/lyft to seattle. so after the show, using the venue's wifi, i was trying to get one, and i kept getting declined. or someone would accept, and then cancel. after 1 hour other people were also having trouble with drivers, but eventually got rides (they weren't going to seattle). it was cold as fuck (around 7 degrees, thanks) and i was texting @justmybeautifulthings the whole time, which helped. after 2 hours, the trucks from the show (they were like 8 trucks, fun faaact) started leaving. they had packed everything up, and were leaving, and i was still there. the last person to leave. overall i spent over 3 hours outside of the venue after the show. the last person to leave before me left like 30 minutes earlier. but then, when finally someone accepted my ride request, he was super nice, said that he was about to go home but said "i'll do one more" and it was meee, and ooof. the things i do for these men, eh?

how did you get into the mbav fandom?

Thank you for asking this question! I feel so honored to be able to tell my mbav story again lol.

Originally when I watched the show air on Disney Channel I would talk about it with my friends on the playground and we would pretend we were vampires and wizards! I vaguely have memories of doing that. In 2015 I created my current Tumblr account and mbav was one of the tags I would casually look through and reblog stuff from along with my other middle school interests. Nothing too serious until I rewatched the show in Netflix and became obsessed. It was the show I forced all my little emo friends to watch with me and would write pages and pages of thought about in my silly little pop culture notebook. It had kind of become the "emo kid" series at my school and with my friends, along with Invader Zim and The Nightmare Before Christmas and such. I would still watch the show religiously every month by myself but I wouldn't talk about it too much, until 2020 happened and I decided to open up the ol' Tumblr account again. I went through all my old tags and went through the mbav tag again, which caused me to find the mbav Discord server and become hyper obsessed with the show again. I did a serious rewatch again and started posted fan content in fall of 2021, which I would've never done before. Before I knew it I had forced my friends to become fans as well and we started a podcast, and now I'm making an multiple hour long YouTube video about it and having a lot of fun. So ig isolation and years of hyper obsession is how I got into the mbav fandom, and it's been a lot of fun so far! It definitely made my 2022 a lot more bearable <3

A familiar, not-quite-monotone answers, calm and a bit raspy, “Hey, this is Keith.”

“Why do you look like that?” Lance asks, much more obtuse than his friend.

“Why do I look like what?” They ask, “I don’t think I have any bruises or cuts or anything?”

Shiro, bless him, decides to take pity on them, “They’re talking about the way you’re dressed, Keith.”

 Or; Keith shows up to a hangout actually dressed emo, not what the group joked was their emo style, and it confuses the hell out of the group. Shiro's neutral, Matt's enjoying it, and Keith's only slightly confused.

Falls On Me by Fuel. This song has haunted me since I was a pre-teen. There's just something about it. It's raw, it's real, and his voice makes me cry.

If It Means A Lot To You by ADTR. It was never a phase, mom. I will never grow out of my emo phase. If you've ever heard this song, you've probably cried too. (And if you haven't heard this song... please listen to it.)

Waiting For The End by Linkin Park. LP will forever be one of my favorite bands. I grew up with them, raged with them, and cried with them. They gave me a place to channel my Nobody Understands Me™ teenager vibes and a place to channel my Oh Fuck What Am I. Doing With My Life™ adult vibes. They're a touchy subject for me now because I will never be emotionally over losing the lead singer Chester, but they will always be god-tier to me.

Wrong Side of Heaven by Five Finger Death Punch. Another band that has been with me for a looooooongg time. This song, in particular, holds a lot of deep meaning to me. I found myself in a really bad place in 2021 and listened to this song a lot while I was crawling my way out of it. It still makes me cry, but in a good way now. (I'm much better now, besties. Please don't ever be afraid to ask for help. I wish I had asked for help!)

Jet Black Heart by 5 Seconds of Summer. 5SOS is another band that is just... so fucking special to me. I have seen them live more than any other band (an embarrassing number of times) I have met them, I have a 5SOS tattoo, I have traveled long distances for them. Their music gave me a reason to keep going when nothing else did it for me. I could honestly make this post just 5SOS songs... but that's for another day.

When I Look At You by Miley Cyrus. lmfao fight me. I don't have a deep meaning behind it. It's just a good fucking song. Baby Miley is so personal to me.

Fly Over States by Jason Aldean. fuck, my American is showing, innit mates? LOOK. LISTEN TO ME. THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT THIS FUCKING SONG THAT MAKES ME SOOOOOOBBBBB. I have no feelings whatsoever toward the big flyover states in the US. I've never lived in them, I don't think about them often, and they definitely don't make me cry. BUT THIS SHIT RIGHT HERE? A 3rd Majsasaurus Year ✨

Another Majsasaurus year has passed. This day, 22nd of September 2022 marks three years since I published my first fanfic. After my first year as a fandom member, I wrote my first Majsasaurus Year, and 22nd of Sept 2021, I published my 2nd Majsasaurus Year. Both highs and lows has managed to fit into the first two years and the third year has been a mix of those two.

The first fic I wrote after 22.9.2021 was actually a fic that for a long time was just called “the emo au”, aka A Gang of Fallen Stars. Yes, another fic with a sky analogue, but it had to be done, haha. A Gang of Fallen Stars was an angst Shikadai x Inojin modern au whose time period spanned for only a week, a real challenge in my narrative which usually span over months or years in most of my fics. In true 2021 fashion this was partly a struggle as well, as I started to write it already in the summer but had to put it on pause. In October all chapters of the fic were published, and I was satisfied with it, even if I during a re-write would change some of the ending.

After said emo au I dabbled back into smut for a little while and wrote a super soft fic where Saiino had sex. It is called “With your body as my canvas”, and was fairly well received and I remember thoroughly enjoying writing it and the symbolism in it.

During this time, I noticed my favourite ship Shikadai x Inojin had 75 fics on AO3 and I started dreaming of reaching 100 before 2022 would begin. I reached out to my friend SpicedGold and together we plotted to write as many Shikajin fics as needed so we would reach 100 before 2022. We are only two people, so it was a nailbiter to see if someone else would upload fics to help us. Someone might think that three months sounds like a lush time schedule for 25 fics, but if you think so you are privileged with a popular ship, and Shikajin isn’t.

As part of this Shikajin-scheme, I re-wrote a twitter drabble to a fic, May I have this dance? Said fic was another sweet, fluffy modern au about dancing and coming out – as if I haven’t written that already hahahaha. I also re-wrote another twitter drabble to a fic at the very end of December 2021 as a gift to @notquitejiraiya, The Message, which was another dance fic for the boys, which consisted of empowering ideas of representation in Shikajin format. The final day in December I uploaded two fanarts as a work on AO3 as a gift to SpicedGold, a desperate try to get the 99 to a 100 – and we made it! It felt almost as a mini-fandom event with only two members, she and I, and we had tons of fun hyping each other up to write the fics to reach 100.

The longest fic to this ‘mini event’ was a 7k long Shikajin one shot, A study of Emotions, which I am so satisfied with. It’s nothing but an introspection fic, and those who know me, knows I believe I suck at introspection. But what do you know, apparently I am capable of writing a fic that is almost nothing but that!

Besides my common ships I write, it seems almost as if I have a bi-yearly need to write a wlw-smutish fic, and as part of that I wrote a second chapter to my former one shot Another Light, a TemaSaku (Temari x Sakura canonverse) fic. The second chapter gained a lot of traction to the fic, and to this day I am thoroughly pleased with both of them and very surprise of the love the fic recieved. Who knows, maybe you can read in Majsasaurus Year 4 about a possible third chapter to the fic? I might want to write some hot ladies have sex again.

Another one shot received a second chapter too around the same time in November 2021, namely 48 hours to live, a surprisingly well-received short story of only 5k (with both chapters counted), which tangled a canon divergent idea of Shikadai being awake during the hostage-bomb situation from the anime and manga. The fans loved that fic, and I am happy about that.

All in all I published/updated 8 works on AO3 the final four months of 2021.

Those of you who read my 2nd Majsasaurus Year might remember there was a fic, an Inojin-centric fic, I had written in the summer of 2021, but had such complicated emotion towards that it had made me cry a few times. I cried because I believed I would be misunderstood or hated for the fic, I cried over a complicated interaction with two beta readers and so much more. The fic rested for six months – a well earned time I needed to let the story sit inside me  – before I finally gathered the courage and uploaded Let them bloom 16.1.2022 after amazing encouragement from Becks (@notquitejiraiya) and SpicedGold.

Contrary to my negative emotions the fic received amazing feedback and I am grateful I didn’t delete it back when it felt tough.

I also uploaded my so far first and only fic from another fandom! A little pit of pain is a short fluff fic called A little bit of pain, featuring the ship Inumaki Toge x Okkotsu Yuuta from the anime Jujutsu Kaisen, and that fic was written as part of a minibang, the first event outside fanweeks and zines I’ve been part of. It was nice and challenging to write a fic of another fandom, and the fic has a cute fanart attached to it!

You all have probably heard how spite is the greatest fuel to fanfiction? Spite was one of the reasons I decided to write my second fic for 2022. I missed writing Shikamaru x Temari, Shikatema, and I missed writing long fics and I missed writing physical angst, which in my humble opinion is the superior angst (which you know if you’ve read me, he he). During the latter half of 2022 I engulfed myself in fluff and mostly one shots; well-needed after the emotionally challenging summer of 2021, and now I was ready for angst once more.

I had already for a year had the idea of a Shikatema WWII-AU, which setting was in the northeast of Europe, and I decided that 2022 will be the year I’m writing it. I began writing 1.1.2022 and uploaded the first chapter of “no one cries for unknown soldiers" the first week of February. It featured Shikamaru and Temari as nothing but common infantry soldier – they weren’t high in the hierarchy of the army and just did their job; killed people while trying to save their own humanity. But, anyone who has read the news the past half year knows that a war unleashed in late February in Europe, when I had already three chapters published of my WWII-fic. It was frightening to read the news and it felt surreal when I was in the middle of writing a similar fic. Talk about the worst timing ever.

Despite this, I still absolutely loved my fic and finished it, with the final chapter uploaded in April 2022. I have never put down so much work on a fic, as every chapter was beta read. Normally I’ve only been beta read for the zines – short work, and the process was completely different with a long fic. I also both read books and watched movies for the fic. I even commissioned an artwork by @mheerdraws as a fic poster, and I love it dearly.

Despite my own joy in writing and publishing and making my friends cry; it was sure bizarre and at times emotionally heavy when I was “living a war” inside my head as I wrote the fates of the characters at the same time as I feared for the real world. Still, this fic was the first one since autumn of 2020 that I felt proud of. I’ve felt satisfaction before this, but pride is another, much stronger emotion. I was proud of what the war fic became, even if I had to go a bit insane for it.

After the WWII-fic I had talked with my friends a bit of how intriguing it was to give real world ethnicities and nationalities to our beloved Naruto characters beyond the “poorly researched Japanese interpretation” or the basic north American default (looking at you, high school, and collage AUs). We talked about making the characters Europeans instead and what those settings could do to them. I hosted a 100 followers fic raffle on twitter, and my friend @thespookymoth won the raffle! Based on our discussions she requested Shikajin in Berlin, and I wrote the modern au emotionally angsty but ah so fluffy 5k one shot “I won’t let you feel fear” with the boys being German, which was uploaded in May 2022. So fun!

Summer was on after that. I travelled to Berlin for a week, and it was so fun after having writing about the city in both a historical and modern concept through fics.

Do you hear it, it’s the bi-yearly wlw-need once more calling. Even if I like Temari x Sakura a decent amount I had become very interest in the potential Temari x Ino had, and I knew I wanted to challenge myself with a new format. This new said format is a long one shot – a one shot longer than 15k. I wanted to write one story without breaking it into chapters and this pairing got the maiden try of it. Wind in my hair ended up being 18k words and was a modern au feat smut story of Temari and Ino. This story had also its own somersaults during the writing process, with one draft thrown into the bin after I crumbled with one of my first ideas and had to rewrite the rest. Despite the difficulties behind the scenes, I like how the fic turned out! Not only did I write this pairing during June; I also hosted a mini pride series on my twitter where I uploaded Shikajin, Temari and Ino headcanoned as different sexualities. That was fun!

In late July 2022 I started writing my following long fic. It was time for Shikajin again and I needed and yearned for another longer work do dedicate my writing life to. This writing process was prioritised at the expense of other fun projects and fan events, but that is simply how I work. I can’t write multiple things at once because I don’t feel good having multiple wips.

I lamented my new slowness at writing (compared to the golden age of 2019 and 2020) while working slowly at the new Shikajin fic, but undying support from my friends made it all worth the process. To image them curse at me fuelled me.

Labyrinth of Confusion, my new long fic premiered 20th of September in 2022, as part of my now three-year anniversary. So far only one chapter is uploaded, and I sincerely hope I will look back to this fic with love, compared to whatever I felt after Hope in the Universe. I am lowkey excited. Hopefully my readers will also love it. My friend Soverel was kind to draw me a fic poster as a gift 🤍

So far I’ve written/published 6 works in 2022. It has been a year. I’ve drawn a bit on my tablet and posted fanart of Shikadai and Inojin, I’ve bought one zine and also finished all the work for the Ino-Shika-Cho-zine I am part of, but other than that, my zine career is over. I have continued to nurture my little corner in the form of a small Discord Server together with notquitejiraiya and SpookyMoth and I’ve read fics. I am happier than I was in 2021, definitely, and for that I am grateful – I’ve managed to feel better in my fandom life as well. But being in fandom is a very human experience. I have been jealous, envious, disappointed and angry of fandom related issues, there’s no point in lying. At times I’ve had my account on private when I felt like everyone hated one of my artworks (which was a lie, no one hated it). I’ve muted more words than ever on twitter after reluctantly accepting it's okay to not stomach everything I see. I have had fandom friend separation anxiety, and everything connected to that.

But I’ve also been giggly and happy and have had lovely and silly discussion about my favourite characters and pairings. I have been for hours in voice chats, and I’ve laughed so much and so loudly. I have been in awe of the talent my friends have. I have even had dreams of my fandom friends and I gained a few new ones over the past year. I have let ShikaTema consume me during the spring, I have loved every second of Shikadai and Inojin in the Boruto anime, I have had fun with a new ship from another fandom, and I have kept being Majsasaurus Bex online.
