↳2021 reading challenge (prompts here)
january: week one
i dont know how yall put up with my inconsistency, and honestly i’m always a bit late to everything, but here goes nothing:
What is the first book that you are reading in 2021?
the first book i’ve read in 2021 is featured in the post! its her body and other parties by carmen maria machado.
Do you have a reading goal this year? How many books do you plan to read?
my current goal this year is 25 books. i’ve read 3 books since the start of the year (date im posting this is the 13th) so i’m a little head of my overall reading goal for now but i may end up changing my goal later on in the year

Saturday 6th of February // Soft Blue and Gold // 🎧 Achilles Come Down - Gang of Youth
It’s has been a welcoming-a-new-housemate-with-an-apple-pie kind of week.
(2021 Reading challenge under the cut)
Week 5 : If the book that you are currently reading had a different title, what would it be?
The book of practical advices to go through life with social anxiety : no-bullshit, practical, get-shit-done edition. All credits go to my therapist for getting me to finally read it, because my loathing of self-help book knows no limits, but at some point neither did my inability to hold a conversation with anyone, so clearly something had to give 🤷🏻‍♀️

2021 Book Club by @studylikegeller
March - Week 2
What are you currently reading? Would you recommend this book to a friend?
Currently reading “Our Women on the Ground” which is a collection of Essays of Arab female journalists reporting from the Middle East. It is a huge recommendation from me to everyone! A very honest book that will leave you uncomfortable and yet hopeful at the same time.
Do you prefer paperback or hardcover? Why?
Hardcover. They look prettier and don’t break as easily.

September 2021 Reading Wrap-Up | 2021 Reading Challenge
Wrap-Up:
Digest: Ten Short Stories by Convicted & Plausible People Eaters by Evan Witmer | 2/5 stars
It by Stephen King | 4/5 stars
[books for #tbrbusterchallenge below]
Doctor Sleep by Stephen King | 5/5 stars
House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski | 4/5 stars
Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch | 3/5 stars
2021 Reading Challenge: October Week 1
Prompt 1: Can you separate the book from the author?
It depends on the author/book, to be honest. For example, I still read HP Lovecraft, but I will never read Ayn Rand or Terry Goodkind. I can't really explain how I make these decisions.
Prompt 2: Think about the book you are currently reading. Would it make a good movie?
I am currently reading Stephen King's The Stand which already has a couple of adaptations. I don't know how successful these adaptations are since I probably won't watch them until I have finished the book. From where I am at so far in the story, I don't think it would make a good movie because of the large number of characters that are being introduced.

Today went soooo much better than yesterday! 🥰
I finally managed to make my social protection subject make sense and I have a plan I am happy with. I switched back to my master’s thesis for today but I will probably spend the weekend working on my exam (that is Monday and so stressing me out).
I felt like I would go insane if I didn’t go out so I went out to get myself cinnamon buns (this is me investing to fuel my productivity). Honestly the weather is so bad rn, I was lucky to get like an hour of non-rain to enjoy.
I have picked up this book that I was supposed to read it for one of my classes back in my first year of uni and never did but I think I finally have the maturity to be interested in the topic so I’ll give it another try!
📚 2021 reading challenge 📚
Q. Do you have a favorite book series?
A. That’s like asking a parent their favorite child??? But if I was to choose, I would go for Chronicles of Ancient Darkness. It’s the first series that I read as a teenager and seeing it ignited my passion of book series, I think it deserves the title of my favorite one!

2021 BOOK CLUB: a group for everyone who wants to read more in 2021!
I created a tumblr group chat where we can share what we are reading, our thoughts and comments, and whether we recommend it or not. those who are reading/have read the same book could start discussions etc. it’s all up to you!
I’m also thinking about starting a year-long challenge with questions about reading, so that those who want could answer those while posting on tumblr! ALSO I think we could use the hashtag #2021bookclub while posting about what we are reading. this way, we can easily keep up with the posts! The main goal of this book club is to read more, motivate each other, and have fun!
Group chat link: https://www.tumblr.com/chat/w6VDkk1H8bS5QpcioDMZtQ/2021-book-club
I AM SO EXCITED about all this, please write to me if you have any questions or recommendation.

can you separate the book from its author? sighs in humanities grad student
Tumblr media
think about the book that you are currently reading. would it make a good movie? the main novel I'm reading right now is the people in the trees by hanya yanagihara and so far I'm just like...please say sike right now. I can only imagine it would make an extremely insufferable pretentious art film. which is not to say I'm not enjoying reading it, lol

March 4th 2021 // Ups and Downs // 🎧 New Rules - Accoustic version
I am still taking two modules this semester, so I thought I could share what my notes tend do look like. I use an ereader, not a tablet, so it is in shades of grey rather than full color and I am loving it. So minimalist, so satisfying.
(@studylikegeller ’s 2021 Reading Challenge under the cut)
What is your favorite quote from the book you are currently reading so far?
I have been going over bits and pieces of Camus’ Myth of Sisyphus recently, and got stuck on that one :
“De toutes les écoles de la patience et de la lucidité, la création est la plus efficace. Elle est aussi le bouleversant témoignage de la seule dignité de l'homme: la révolte tenace contre sa condition, la persévérance dans un effort tenu pour stérile.“
“Of all the schools of patience and lucidity, creation is the most effective. It is also the overwhelming testimony of the only dignity of mankind : the tenacious revolt against its condition, the perseverance in an effort considered sterile”

2021 Reading Challenge - Week 2 of January
I am reading Pride and Prejudice this week and oh my goodness I love it! At first the classical language was tough to get around, but after about 50 pages I couldn’t put it down! I’m nearly done and I am so excited!
Now onto the #2021bookclub questions! I still cannot believe how fun and wonderful this group has been! Reading has never been easier with so many lovely people!
Which feminist books do you recommend?
I honestly haven’t read many feminist books! I really would love to, because feminism is very important to me, but if you have any recommendations for me I would love to add it to the list!
Do you have a favorite book series?
Oooooh you bet I do! Several actually! My all-time favourite bookseries which I need to reread, is the Legend of Drizzt by R.A. Salvatore. His writing is so colourful and descriptive and alive and I love it! It’s set in the Forgotten Realms, and they’re about a dark elf who adventures around helping people, finding himself, and finding his family (found family people, this right here is everything you need)
I also love the Tiger’s Curse series by Collen Houck but I can’t say that the writing is stellar. I also recently finished the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness that was absolutely phenomenal! That book had such dark academia vibes and made me wanna be a scholar so bad lol.
Thanks again to @studylikegeller for making this whole operation a thing, I literally couldn’t thank her enough for bringing this community together! I can’t wait for next week!

#2021 Reading Challenge
March | Week 5
Question 1: What is your favorite book cover ever?
There are so many covers that I love! But my favorite is this edition of The Hobbit. [This is probably not surprising to any body at this point. I have posted so many Tolkien-related photos the last two weeks]
Question 2: Do you take notes while reading?
Yes! I annotate a lot of my books while reading and I also have a several journals that I use.
