Quote
Thabai was a big village. When built, it had combined a number of ridges: Thabai, Kamandura, Kihingo, and parts of Weru. And even in 1963, it had not changed much from the day in 1955 when the grass-thatched roofs and mud walls were hastily collected together, while the whiteman‘s sword hung dangerously above people’s necks to protect them from their brethren in the forest. Some huts had crumbled; a few had been pulled down. Yet the village maintained an unbroken orderliness; from a distance it appeared a huge mass of grass from which smoke rose to the sky as from a burnt sacrifice.

I work at a library and right now there’s an exhibit of photo booth pictures ranging from the 1930s to the mid 20th century. These two never fail to make me smile when I walk by!

I watched The Mummy (1999).
*I should probably mark this for spoilers but it’s 22 years old and from the last century*
Yes, there are many historical inaccuracies. I can accept that Hollywood took its liberties with the movie, like it does with all movies. HOWEVER I am EXTREMELY UPSET that A) There were 5 canopic jars. Historically there 4. FOUR. There should not have been one with a human head. And B) that in the subtitles (It's easier to understand with subtitles, alright? Gives me something to focus on and the ADHD quiets for a bit), when the Mummy and Evy and other guys were speaking ancient egyptian it was listed as “Ancient Egyptian” instead of Coptic, which was the daily language of the ancient egyptians for centuries.
DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT A SCHOLAR IN ANCIENT HISTORY AND IF ANYTHING IS INCORRECT FEEL FREE TO CORRECT ME!!!!!!!!
