Oh no! Our egos...they're broken!

So as a music enthusiast, mainly indie/rock etc I have attended numerous concerts over the years as you can’t beat seeing a band live….Florence and the machine, Kings of Leon, Texas, Coldplay, London Grammar etc and so many smaller pub gigs etc.
Anyway whatever bands I follow/enjoy I have never A) dug in to who their band manager is or B) been disappointed that the band manager has not made themselves front and centre. I just gather that band managers are there to keep bands happy and organised and like most people do not work 24/7 and have a life outside of their job enabling them to enjoy other events!!
Also is it compulsory for a band manager to have several bands on the books or can they just focus on who they work with when required? Clearly a lot of people have no idea what really goes on behind the scenes….
By the way I know you are not a tiny hateful person with an overinflated ego… me thinks it is someone else parroting their own insecurities IYKYK 😬
M A R I A ……!!! 🎶🎤
Thanks for the message, Anon. 😃
Agreed, you can’t beat seeing a band live (and I think you’re blessed if you’re able to listen to their recordings on vinyl too). Love your concert examples!
Come to think of it, during my many years of attending live concerts and collecting recorded music, I’ve never dug into band managers’ names or was disappointed managers didn’t make themselves front and centre. Who knew? (Now I’m giggling about how many film actors have played Brian Epstein. Funny how the mind wanders. 😂)
Like anyone else, I could Google “band manager” and learn what is “compulsory” for that job, but today is not that day. One could Google what is compulsory for my job, and they would have no better idea of how I actually do what I do than they did before I typed this sentence.

Speaking of band managers, ⬆️ Clare Dunne is climbing the stairs to accept her 2024 IFTA Award. To the right of the stage, at the back of the yellow circle, are an IFTA-nominated actress and her husband who is a band manager. Great seats!
Bless you, Anon, for not thinking I’m a tiny hateful person with an overinflated ego. Does this mean you might join me at a cinema later this year when Midas Man premieres? 🍿

Egotober '23 Day Three - Drink - Chase Brody - (TWs:Allusions to substance abuse)
Chase sat at an empty table, one of his arms rested on the cool wood, a hand lazily gripping a glass with a sip of whiskey left in it. His head laid on the table as he watched the liquid swirl at the bottom of the glass.
The large table had several empty chairs around it, plates set out that had been untouched for a few months now. His own plate was half cleared, as he had long decided the whiskey tasted better than the chicken he cooked.
A sound clattered behind him, causing him to sit up. From his blurry eyeline he could see a picture frame fell over on a shelf behind him. He had no interest in getting up to pick it up, he knew that the wedding photo in the frame was something he couldn’t look at.
Besides, any odd happening in his empty house he’d grown used to, brushing them off easily. Whatever energy was following him around no longer bothered him. He’d become accustomed to feeling strange eyes on him, hearing a voice in the empty hallways. He refused to get up and check his daughter’s room any time he heard a voice in there now, after the first week it no longer enticed him.
His head fell back on the table, though something shifted. The glass in his hand was gone, replaced with a yellow and white tennis ball. The temperature of the wood only felt colder under him as it shifted into the titanium that reflected everything on top of it.
The fuzz on the ball tickled his skin as it rolled in a circle. Chase considered what he’d do to get that last sip of whiskey in the moment. The whirring of the camera shifting pulled him out of his stupor.
“Still here.” He said, flatly. “Think a guy could get a drink? Or am I still in more of a prisoner position?”

Now that it's gone I actually kind of miss omegle.
Sure, it was bad. It was really really bad. Especially in the last few years there, it was almost nothing but horny 20-year-old men looking for women who would share nudes, and robots advertising for womens' Onlyfans accounts.
But I spent a number of boring lonely nights on Omegle and between all the people leaving the moment I mentioned I was a male, and the people who I told I was a female leaving the moment I said I didn't want to give them my snapchat, sometimes I would actually meet somebody and we would just talk.
I met a 14-year-old German girl who was beginning to realize she was a lesbian. I met a 34-year-old Australian man who told me about the stars and the zodiacs. I met a 26-year-old Indian man who taught me some basics about Ahimsa and how some believe that eating meat is bad for you spiritually because you're trying to sustenance as the result of an animal's suffering. I met a 20-something man from Egypt who told me he was planning to eventually leave his country and never ever look back.
And these were all very fleeting experiences, in the grand scheme of things. These were very small random connections but they felt powerful. Somehow someway, me and a stranger from across the globe existed at the right place and the right time with the right technology to randomly get to talk to each other. And now the technology is gone.
Well, the base technology is still there. The internet still exists. But something like Omegle will probably never be made again. The culture of the internet has changed.
It' a boring lonely night as I'm typing this. And as I go through all the entertaining memes on the infinite scroll on all my social medias, it feels fake. Disingenuous. This is content to be consumed, not any kind of actual connection between souls. They don't want to know who I am or what I want or what I'm thinking. I would give up a thousand meme pages if it meant that I could once more see that "Hi. M 23 U?" message.

Egotober '23 Day Eight - Frame - Henrik Von Schneeplestein (TWs: None)
When Henrik was shoved into his office after being held in a cell for days he felt like he was taking a fresh breath of air. He knew that wouldn’t matter soon though, as he would only get this moment of reprieve.
However, after Dr. Hansen told him he was to only stay in the office long enough to get through to Chase, he was surprised it was empty. Arin swore Chase was waiting for him in there, and yet the room was relatively untouched.
The frame on the floor was the only thing out of place, he kneeled down to grab it, brushing the broken glass out of the way to pick up the paper. The image of his daughter made his chest tighten.
He hadn’t seen her in so long, and truly it was his fault, he knew that. He dove deep into his work when IRIS brought him on, his wife was tired of being on her own. He didn’t know IRIS would keep him trapped though once his experiment came to life.
IRIS got too messy too fast, he was certain he couldn’t find a way out now that they had their hooks deep in him. He sighed, and collapsed into the chair behind his desk, his head falling into his hands.
Something in the air grew heavy, Henrik could feel it on his shoulders, looking up to find the room still empty. A shadow in the corner looked back at him, a smile appearing on it.
“Where is Chase?” He asked, the figure stepping out into a physical form, revealing Anti in its place. “Home.” Anti told him.

for some reason, I hate hate hate hate hate how they did this scene in the anime.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
it's one of my very favorite moments in the manga, and it's so important for both Isagi's development and his and Rin's relationship + the way the importance of luck is established in this scene and the way Isagi's goal at the U20 game comes back to this moment is *chef's kiss*
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
in the manga, this moment feels so important and epic (because it is), but in the anime, it was so whatever and so forgettable. geh
