Members of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union (ILGWU), carrying placards reading "Chiselers Get Out!," "Hoodlums Can't Make Dresses," "We Will Not Be Intimidated," and "On Strike, Carousel Frocks" as they protest on 35th Street between 7th and 8th Avenues, in the Garment District, February 25, 1959. The demonstration protested the beating of ILGWU organizer Sol Greene at his New Jersey home, with Greene blaming the assault on underworld characters colluding with outlaw garment shops to undercut Union manufacturers.

"Can I ask you something? Why aren't you wearing shoes?" is a question that I've heard countless times. How I respond to that question depends on the day, and on the source of the question. Today I say, "Because it's healthy."
"Ah yes, I've read about that."
The interaction is a very positive one. She thinks it's cool and special and admirable, and I don't know how to respond. Perhaps I ought to say thank you, but I don't, possibly because my brain is in severe depression mode, or because I've never cared much for compliments.
I don't mind the questions. They just come out of nowhere for me, because honestly, after so many years, I've forgotten that not wearing shoes is weird.

National Clam Chowder Day
Love clams and chowder? Everyone’s heard of clam chowder, but did you know that it’s also has a holiday? National Clam Chowder Day is a day all about celebrating the history of this beloved fish stew, historical in its origins to the New England area and helped ultimately inspire creations such as the Manhatten clam chowder, Rhode Island clam chowder, and Long Island clam chowder.
History of National Clam Chowder Day
Chowder dates back as early as 1795 when chowder was originally made as water-based fish soup and various thickness featuring onions, potatoes, and carrots.
The origins of this kind of stew are said to have begun with the French, Nova Scotian, and British as it was a commoner’s dish during the 1700s. Crackers and croutons are usually added as a thickener, and it was just around that time when clam chowder started popping up as a popular version within the Boston area.
By 1836, clam chowder became a staple for sailors, as it was another way to make a constant diet of fish palatable. Most were then a creamy white soup, as a diary, later on, became a more popular addition to the soup in cooler regions where milk animals flourished.
Here’s a fun fact; In 1939, a bill was introduced into the in the Maine state legislature that almost made the use of tomatoes in clam chowder against the law. That’s how much they love their clam chowder!
Today, clam chowder has become a staple for many restaurants all over the United States and has also become more accessible for people when companies such as Campbell’s and Progresso introduced clam chowder in a soup can.
On this day, people either go out to their favorite places to eat clam chowder, buy a can of soup for dinner, or attempt to make their own clam chowder for dinner that day.
How to Celebrate National Clam Chowder Day
People all over celebrate National Clam Chowder Day, so why not take a crack at it by looking up a popular recipe for clam chowder and make it yourself! Season it the way you like it, make it milk-free if needed, and see how well you make clam chowder.
If you’re not up for cooking, head on over to a  restaurant you know that’s excellent at making clam chowder; one of the most famous places in the United States for its clam chowder is the Ye Olde Union Oyster House, one of the oldest standing restaurants in New England since 1836. Share this holiday with your friends and enjoy a delicious meal with each other.

Lets Talk Palestine (Instagram channel)
February 24, 2024
• 92 Palestinians killed, 121 injured in Gaza in past 24 hours
• Mass anti-government protests across Tel Aviv as Israeli’s have grown impatient to lack of a hostage deal and are calling for an election to see Netanyahu leave, showing mounting disdain for the government. Police have arrested 21 people and reports show the use of water cannons to disperse protestors
• Israeli air raid hits home housing displaced Palestinians in Rafah, killing 7 incl. 1 child
• Gaza ceasefire talks in Paris seems to be the most serious push in weeks; Israel’s war cabinet will convene to vote on the proposed outline & framework, indicating that something “tangible” was produced, especially as Israeli negotiators will be sent to to Qatar to continue talks. This doesn’t mean a ceasefire is close or that Israel has halted its plan to invade Rafah — these talks are unpredictable & subject to change
• Armed Israeli settlers assault 2 Palestinians at a make-shift checkpoint in Hebron (West Bank)
-
February 25, 2024
• 86 Palestinians killed, 142 injured in Gaza in past 24 hours
• Palestinians in northern Gaza are being starved as they’ve been cut off from aid as Israel’s relentless bombardment has prevented aid transport from southern Gaza; UNRWA hasn’t delivered any aid since Jan 23. Kamal Adwan Hospital (north) reports increased malnutrition: 1 in 6 kids are “severely malnourished” + hospitals struggling due to lack of fuel, medicine & ambulances
👆 Almost all aid in Gaza goes through Rafah crossing (Egypt) in the south but in recent weeks it has been almost totally halted, dropping from 200 trucks/day to 57, some days less than 20. 2,000+ trucks with enough to feed the entire population have piled up outside the crossing, prevented from entering by Israel. Meanwhile, Israelis have been protesting for weeks at Karem Abu Salem crossing, blocking aid trucks
• Netanyahu affirms Rafah ground invasion, saying a hostage deal would only somewhat delay the invasion
