if i had a nickel for every time i got obsessed with a piece of asian media where

1) the main character is an average everyday man who loves reading as a hobby

2) he is suddenly thrust into the worst case scenario where everything he knew is turned upside down and he now has to do unsavory things to survive

3) he has a tragic childhood w/ mommy issues that you only unlock several hundred chapters into the media,

4) his favorite book and author are intrinsically intertwined with his own fate

5) he becomes the leader of a ragtag group of extremely powerful misfits who err on the side of neutrality and fight for themselves and their own beliefs

6) he goes through several "deaths" and "rebirths"

7) in the end it's revealed that he's part of a greater, grander conspiracy, orchestrated even before the very first chapter, and

8) sacrifices himself for his loved ones as a result of said conspiracy,

i'd have two nickels. which isn't a lot but it's weird it happened twice.

Y/n continued to get dressed, her motion suddenly slowing as a result of his question. Turning her head to the left y/n looked over her shoulder.

"I really can't tonight Jeb I have thi..."

"That's not what I mean" he interrupted. His voice soft with a hint of hopefulness. Y/N knew if she'd look into his eyes she'd see how hard he was pleading with her. Those big brown eyes already producing tears that were building up around the edges, just waiting on a blink to run down his face.

"Now Jeb you know I can't do that" was all that she could say. Turning her head to the wall in front of her, Y/N held her breath in dread of what could come next.

"Please! I'll do anything."

There it is

"I'll walk away from politics I'll...I'll go into seminary and work my way up to being a pastor!"

Jebs voice now sounding like a whine, was being spoken through quivering lips, one breath away from sobbing uncontrollably.

Nowadays when I talk about him I usually say my “ex” and do not take his name. I talk about him or a memory he was a part of without making it personal. It’s easier this way. The moment I try to say his name it becomes agonising, it’s like ripping off a bandaid from a wound you thought has healed but it’s fresh and raw and still needs care and protection. Not verbalising the name makes the memory less painful, less personal, like it happened with some random dude and it wasn’t the person I was supposed to spend my whole life with.
