arrival of surprise.

summary ⟶ The Blossom Angels had last minute changed of schedules which is surprising their boyfriends by appearing in AOMG and H1GHER Music’s party after a months of not seeing each other.

“You two look...”

“Gorgeous?” teased Hayeon as she wiggled her eyebrows, her eyes looking towards the rear-view mirror to see Seonghwa chuckling in embarrassment.

“I think that’s too extreme to compliment someone..” remarked Eunjae as she looks at her partner who was sitting beside her.

“I don’t disagree with what Hayeon said - and I agree with what Eunjae said too,”

“What a smart answer,” giggled Hayeon and Eunjae roll her eyes as she turned her gaze towards the window.

2 weeks before today’s event, Eunjae and Hayeon were being invited to Jay’s end of year party at Jeju where all AOMG and H1GHER Music staffs and artists will be coming to celebrate together.

The girls sadly rejected his offer as Eunjae and Hayeon were suppose to attend their individual schedules.

But both of them manage to squeeze in their schedule and they could attend Jay’s party since the party will start at 8 at night.

Hayeon decided to make this as a surprise so she called Seonghwa, informing him about her own exciting plan with her dragging Eunjae along.

Eunjae couldn’t even tell Minsik about her arrival. Poor Minsik was sad that his girlfriend couldn’t make it for the party causing him to sulk on Eunjae.

“But seriously, the two of you are pretty. Jaebeom and Minsik are lucky guys.” Seonghwa complimented the two girls who were sitting at the back seat.

“It’s been a year. Don’t tell me you are still single.” stated Hayeon as she frowned towards Seonghwa’s back since he was driving.

“Sadly.” answered Seonghwa and Hayeon shakes her head.

“Busy with your new album?” questioned Eunjae and Seonghwa nodded.

“You’re not the only one. Eunjae and I are busy too.” commented Hayeon and Seongwa’s gaze turn towards the rear-view mirror.

“I can tell. I mean, the two of you lose a lot of weight.. when was the last time that we’ve hang out together?” questioned Seonghwa, seeing him turning his head slightly.

“Last year I think..” answered Eunjae, turning toward Hayeon who was nodding her head.

Eunjae can’t help but to agree with Seonghwa.

She and Hayeon really did lose weight, thanks to the cases that both of them had solved that was mostly involved with drugs and a few tough cases involving rape.

The clothes that they are wearing right now are a little loose.

Eunjae was wearing her usual business clothing with her business black coat while Hayeon wears a ribbon top with a cute skirt and heels.

Both of them, mostly Eunjae, would stay in her office just to finish the reports and to investigate more. She had to some time skip meals to get her work done.

“And you look buff too. Kiseok told me you went to the gym alot.” teased Eunjae, smirking towards Seonghwa.

“Yeah.. Who you’re trying to seduce, Gray?” added Hayeon, followed by a giggle from her.

Seonghwa scoffed as he turned behind towards Hayeon since they stop at a red light.

“Yah! I’m doing this for my own good!” Seonghwa whines slightly, causing both of the girls to giggle.

“Anyways, thank you for fetching us from the airport.” thanked Eunjae, smiling towards Seonghwa.

“No problem. I mean, Jaebeom and the others are going to be so happy as soon as the both you appeared. I’m honestly happy too when you called me. I’m excited to see their reactions, especially Jaebeom and Minsik.”

By the time they arrive to their destination, both of the girls’ eyes went wide seeing branded cars being park by the drive-way.

It was obvious which house that the crew would be in as out of all the houses, only one of them had people coming in and out.

“Jay and the others are probably inside.” informed Seonghwa as the girls already got out of the car.

Hayeon quickly clings onto Eunjae as soon as they passed by a few unfamiliar faces, and feeling them staring at the girls but they feel safe thanks to Seonghwa whom was standing close to them.

“I think they are Jaebeom’s friends from L.A. I’m not familiar too.” added Seonghwa and the girls immediately nodded, following the older one closely.

As they were walking up the stairs, Hayeon’s eyes caught one of the crowd, to see the first female artist that had joined AOMG.

“Hyunjung eonnie!” Hayeon called, causing the AOMG female artist, Hyunjung as known as Hoody, to turned towards Hayeon.

The artists had her eyes widen before running towards where Hayeon was, hugging her tightly.

“I knew you would come! Gosh, when Jaebeom told me you weren’t coming, I was so sad and disappointed.” Hyunjung pouted before pulling away, then turning towards Eunjae.

“Eunjae-ah! You look classy! Both of you!” Hyunjung cooed, looking towards the both of the girls up and down before hugging the other girl tightly.

“So this is why you suddenly disappeared.” teased Hyunjung while looking towards Seonghwa who was smiling cheekily.

“Anything to surprise our CEO. Anyways, are they in there?” questioned Seonghwa and Hyungjung nodded while looking towards the house to hear loud deep laughters.

“Yup. Jaebeom is near the pool I think, and Minsik should be at the 2nd floor with his crew.” informed Hyunjung.

“Let’s go in together since Jukyung ditch me.” muttered Hyunjung at the end, before pulling both of the girls while Seonghwa whining at the back.

Eunjae and Hayeon could smell a familiar scent, knowing some of them smokes as the both of them were swatting the scent away.

“Look who has arrived. Our AOMG and H1GHER Music princesses.”

Eunjae and Hayeon looked towards the voice to see Kiseok as known as Simon Dominic, leaning against the wall with a red cup on his hands.

“I think Hoody eonnie should be the princess. She’s the first female artist to join AOMG.” stated Eunjae as she fold her arms.

“She’s not wrong though.” Seonghwa commented at the back, causing Hyunjung to chuckle.

“C’mon! Don’t I get a hug or something?” Kiseok whines and the 2 girls teasingly give the older one a side hug.

“Where’s Jaebeom?” questioned Hayeon, causing Kiseok to turn towards the pool area. The girls followed his gaze and there were visible frowns coming from Eunjae and Hayeon.

“It’s pretty obvious but there’s girls.” commented Eunjae and Kiseok quickly turned towards the 2 girls.

“They are just dancers. I promise you.” assured Kiseok and the 2 of them nodded slowly but deep down, both of them were a little concern.

“Okay. I’ll probably go up and find Minsik.” said Eunjae as she was about to walk away when Seonghwa stops her.

“I’ll accompany you.” offered Seonghwa as Eunjae excused herself before going upstairs with Seonghwa.

“C’mon. Hyunjung and I will introduce to a few new people.” suggested Kiseok before pulling both Hyunjung and Hayeon along towards the pool.

“Okay. He’s in there.” Seonghwa whispered as he was peeking into the lounge area.

“Have fun!” he whispered while giggling away. Eunjae watched him walking downstairs, leaving the nervous Eunjae alone.

Eunjae gulped as she could hear the deep voices. She didn’t know how to make her entrance, knowing the whole crew was there.

Eunjae and Minsik has been on a long distant relationship and both of them could only depend on their phones to fill their longings of missing each other by texting or calling each other.

She knew that Minsik was suffering with his strange nightmares that has been going on for a couple of months. It was worse back then but thanks to Eunjae who decided to be by Minsik side whenever he has nightmares, his constant nightmares were lessened by him video calling Eunjae.

Though there were some days that Eunjae would be completely exhausted, she didn’t complained to Minsik since he really needs her support.

Till now, Minsik would frequently call Eunjae, him asking her about her well-being and lots of catching up with what Minsik and Eunjae has been doing.

I’ll probably just see him when he go down.

“Eunjae?”

Eunjae was turning her heels, wanting to retreat back when a familiar voice called her causing Eunjae to turned her body to the front in a second.

Minsik stood frozen and she could already see the H1GHER Music crews’ head peeking in.

They had the same look as Minsik but it changes to them waving at her excitedly with cheeky smiles directed towards Minsik.

“Well— Hi!” squeaked Eunjae and she was immediately being pulled towards Minsik as her sight was blocked and she could smell Minsik’s scent knowing she was on his arms.

There were whistling sounds and screams behind the couple and Eunjae could hear Hwimin screaming with joy.

“Why didn’t you tell me you were coming?” mumbled Minsik, his hands squishing Eunjae’s cheeks as he locked his eyes with hers.

“Surprise?” Eunjae sheepishly said. Minsik can’t help but to chuckle embarrassingly before hugging her once more.

“I miss you, baby. I-I actually don’t know what to say..” confessed Minsik as he stared at Eunjae. His gaze slowly fell towards what she was wearing, looking at her up and down but he slowly frowns as he observes her.

“Babe, did you lose weight?” questioned Minsik with a frown. He was looking at her in different directions.

“Urm..no..?”

“You did lose weight! You coat looks big!” Hwimin commented at the back, making Eunjae to tilt her head slightly while frowning.

“Eunjae-ah, you really did lose weight.” added Junwon as he walked passed Eunjae since he came from downstairs.

Eunjae could only gulp slightly, seeing Minsik who was silently judging her with crossed arms.

Here goes my night.

“Yo, Jay man. Who’s that?”

“Who’s who?”

“The one with Hoody and Simon. Damn, she is cute!”

Jaebeom frowns as he sees his friend from the states turning his attention towards the opposite from where they were.

“Simon is blocking my view! That should be....”

Jaebeom trails off, his eyes slowly went wide.

Kiseok’s body move away from Jaebeom’s sight to clearly see who is his friend from the state was talking about.

Hayeon was somehow talking to one of the newer staffs from AOMG. His eyes slowly turn towards her body to see what she was wearing.

Why is she wearing a short skirt? But can’t lie though... she really do looks cute..

But Jaebeom’s eyes move towards her face and judging from Hayeon’s body language and her tight smile plus the way she was sticking to Kiseok and Hyunjung, she looks slightly uncomfortable.

Hayeon looks even more uncomfortable as soon as both Kiseok and Hyunjung had to leave the poor girl alone due to their own friends calling them.

“Are you new here?” The newbie staff that Kiseok introduced to Hayeon was Sungwoo. He is the new manager of Kiseok, Seonghwa, Hyunjung and Hyukwoo.

“Well, I guess you could say so.” answered Hayeon awkwardly, seeing the taller one looking at her intensely.

“I’ve never seen you before... But seeing how close you were with Kiseok hyung and Hyunjung noona.. Are you the manager of H1GHER Music’s artists?” Sungwoo asked curiously and Hayeon gulped nervously.

It was obvious that Sungwoo was a newcomer seeing how curious and friendly he was towards her. Newbies in both Jaebeom’s labels didn’t dare to even strike a conversation with her due to the fact of her being ‘one of the two lawyer that saved Jay from the drug scandal’ and Jay Park’s assistant, which the second one isn’t true.

Hayeon wasn’t even working with Jaebeom in terms of his labels. She was just a staff in the Human Resource department.

“Well I—

“Oh! Sungwoo! You’ve met AOMG’s princess!”

Hayeon felt an arm on her shoulders causing her to shriek slightly. She didn’t need to see who it was just by the familiar cologne scent.

She turned slightly to the side to see Jaebeom smiling widely, looking towards Sungwoo then to Hayeon with a slight smirk on his face.

“P-princess?” Sungwoo repeated as his eyes traveled towards Hayeon who was staring at Jaebeom as the older one slightly pull Hayeon towards him, making Hayeon to automatically had her arms on his waist.

“This is Hayeon. She is my girlfriend.” Jaebeom announced and Hayeon’s eyes went wide while her turned towards him in a flash.

“Jay!” Hayeon whispered and Jaebeom innocently looks at her.

“What? Everyone knows about us.”

“Not everyone!” Hayeon slightly exclaimed as she turned towards Sungwoo who looked embarrassed.

“I’m sorry for his.. urm.. honesty, Sungwoo. But it’s nice to meet you.” said Hayeon with a smile while taking out her hand towards Sungwoo for a handshake.

“I can call you noona right?” questioned Sungwoo timidly.

“May I know what year you were born?”

“1997.”

“Okay, then you can call me noona then.” answered Hayeon with a smile as Sungwoo gladly shakes her hand with a smile.

Jaebeom had a visible frown as he looked towards Hayeon and Sungwoo.

“Okay... Sungwoo-ah, help me look after Kiseok hyung. He shouldn’t be drinking too much since he has a meeting tomorrow.” instructed Jaebeom while sliding his arms onto Hayeon’s waist.

“Alright. Nice to meet you, Hayeon noona. I’ll see you some day.” said Sungwoo with a shy smile towards Hayeon before waving towards Jaebeom as the younger one flees away.

“You look really uncomfortable when I wasn’t here and look who is making friends now. Maybe I should have stayed by the pool.” Jaebeom commented and Hayeon turned her body towards him, seeing him pouting.

“I was - but you make the situation more comfortable and less awkward.” answered Hayeon with a smile and Jaebeom could feel his cheeks turning red, seeing how beautiful his girlfriend is when she smiles.

“Y-yeah.. But he likes you!” Jaebeom whines and Hayeon immediately frowns.

“What? What do you mean he likes me? Baby, we literally just met.” Hayeon remarked with a slight whine. Jaebeom looks at her in the eye.

“You should have seen the way he looks at you, baby.” added Jaebeom and Hayeon sighs as she slightly glare at him before giving a peck on his lips.

“Even if he likes me - or not, you declared to him that I am yours Jaebeom.” commented Hayeon with a wide smile.

Jaebeom’s eyes went wide before chuckling.

“Since when you are smooth, baby?” teased Jaebeom before pulling her into his arms as he looked at her, their faces are inches away.

“I don’t know if that was called being smooth but I guess staying in L.A. changed me?” guessed Hayeon as she smiled cheekily and Jaebeom can’t help but to kiss her on the lips, seeing how adorable his girlfriend is.

“You better be smooth to me, baby.” warned Jaebeom teasingly and Hayeon roll her eyes.

“And can you kindly tell me what happen to you saying you were busy with work?” quoted Jaebeom and Hayeon widen her eyes as she blinked at him.

“Well...” Hayeon trailed off, knowing she will be having a long conversation with Jaebeom.

Holidays

As a kid, holidays were BIG in our house. Every major holiday was something, some more minor holidays were thrown in there too - New Year's Eve was staying up late playing board games and snacks, with New Year's Day going to church and then having a big lavish dinner all together. Valentine's Day was little Valentine's from mom and dad, St. Patrick's Day was corned beef and veggies (I love corned beef!) Easter is a major Christian holiday, so that was church, egg hunt, baskets, dinner. 4th of July, Memorial Day, Veteran's Day? Fireworks, dinners, pool days (well, no pool for Veteran's Day, as we closed the pool in October). Halloween, of course, was and still is, my favorite. Dressing up, pizza or spaghetti dinner, trick-or-treating!! And Thanksgiving was a huge feast all day, tons of games, hanging out with friends, going outside if it was nice. Christmas was another church holiday, with new dresses, presents, treats, dinner.

Anyway!! Holidays were fanfare for us, and we loved them. As my oldest sister started having kids, we started passing on traditions to her to do with her kids, and some of them were tweaked to their liking. When we had our fire in 2017 and had to leave the house, we mostly split up (with one of my other sisters having moved out years earlier and her and her husband and baby lived a few blocks away) and our traditions fell by the wayside. We still try to do the big holidays together - Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas. But we do a lot of modifications for our own 3 little families - I do Easter baskets for my mom and sister, I get them Valentine's cards, Christmas stockings. My 2nd oldest sister hosts us, as she has the biggest house and biggest yard to do so.

Our changing traditions saddened me at first, but I also can appreciate the evolution of them now. We do what we can/want as we want, there's no rush to celebrate on the day, at a specific time. It's more laid back, and aside from prepping meals and decorating, I personally feel is more laidback. New traditions aren't a bad thing, though they can feel like the changing of an era. I've really enjoyed creating new ideas and themes and times with my family. Plus, let's be honest - I LOVE party planning, so its not like it's a burden on me to help take the reins from my mom and share the planning and hosting with my sister.

Ultimate Story 2: Dinosaur Planet-Chapter 3: Rescuing Prince Tricky

After they left the warp cave, they remained out of sight the second they saw a ship drop off a poor helpless dinosaur. Bubbles and Misty seemed almost as though tears would pour out of their eyes when they saw the 2 Sharpclaws poke the poor dinosaur with their weapons and then chased him into a cave. Misty: “Was...that...the prince?” Fox: “I...I think so, Misty.” Bubbles: “That...poor helpless dinosaur. Fox, we have to save him!” Fox: “Read you loud and clear, Bubbles. Let's go.”

Unfortunately for our heroes, a metal door blocked out the cave. Bashing through the door didn't help either. So they searched the area for something useful.

It wasn't long when Bubbles found a large stack of boxes. Knocking them down was no problem, at all. Later, Fox came and beat up all the Sharpclaws in the area. When they returned to the metal door, they saw that a fire blaster switch appeared above the door. Fox shot the switch with his fire blaster and ran in with the others. When they entered, they saw the Sharpclaws were still picking on poor Tricky. Fox ran in to the rescue followed by Bubbles and Misty. Fox: “Hey, scaleface! Pick on someone your own size.”

Misty and Bubbles stopped right near Fox. Misty, Bubbles: “Yeah!"

The Sharpclaws spoke, but they spoke in the same language as the queen. Fox: “I am Fox McCloud and these are my friends. We have come to take the prince back to his...home.”

Suddenly, the prince ran out of the cave. Bubbles: “Hey, wait! Come back!”

Bubbles flew after him. Misty: “Bubbles!”

Misty flew after Bubbles. Fox: “Misty!”

Just then, the Sharpclaws knocked Fox on the floor, got on their snowmobiles, and went after the girls and Tricky. Luckily for Fox, there was an extra snowmobile right next to him. So, he got on and went after the Sharpclaws.

He drove through the slopes on that snowmobile. When he caught up with the Sharpclaws, the girls and Tricky were nowhere in sight.

Meanwhile, Rayman and Peach went after Fox on a walking shell (As seen in Rayman 2) as Banjo-Kazooie did the same with the Talon Trot (As seen in Banjo-Kazooie).

After Fox overtook the Sharpclaws, he rode off a cliff and found himself falling into the water below. When the walking shell ran off the cliff, Peach got out her parasol, opened it, and floated down but she was too late to save Rayman from falling. Even Kazooie ran off the cliff, however, she purposely slipped out of Banjo's backpack. She watched as the boys fell into the water while she fluttered down with Peach.

After the boys got out of the water, Fox spotted Misty and Bubbles sitting by safely with the prince. Banjo was angry with Kazooie for what she did. Peach was annoyed with Rayman for forgetting his helicopter move again. Suddenly, the prince started to speak. Fox: “What?”

The prince spoke again. Fox: “I...I can't understand you!” Misty: “Maybe this will help.”

Misty transported some of her translating powers into Fox. The prince started making sense. Tricky:“...hot spring or you guys would be frozen by now.” Fox: “Why you little...”

Misty jumped in front of Fox to protect Tricky. Misty: “Fox!” Tricky: “Hey! Don't even think about it. My dad's the king and he'll bash you up!” Misty: “I'm afraid he won't be doing any bashing at the moment.” Tricky: “But why?" Bubbles: “He's been captured!” Tricky: “C-captured?” Fox: “Yes, captured. That's why we were sent to rescue you.” Misty: "At least...we believe that's what happened to him." Bubbles: “Your mom sent us here.” Tricky: “My mom? Is she OK?” Misty: “Don't worry, Tricky. We'll think about her once we figure out how to get you home.” Bubbles: “But how? We're so far away from that warp thingie and I'm so cold, I don't have the strength to fly back.” Misty: “No kidding. I can handle the Icy Side of Hailfire Peaks but this is ridiculous.” Fox: “Looks like we're on our feet in this one. Let's go.”

Well, Fox wasn't kidding when he said that they were on their feet in this one: Bubbles and Misty were too cold to fly and Peach's PPG suit didn't seem to work in the cold climate. To make it worse, they came across a lava pool. Without the girls' ability to fly, how were they going to get out of this one? Luckily, to the right of the pool were 2 blue mushrooms called Grubtubs, which Tricky said were his favorite foods. Fox was able to catch both of them and fed them to Tricky because he was hungry. After he ate, he then told Fox and his friends that he would help them when he was fed Grubtubs. He can dig things up and do others cool stuff. All they have to do is say, "find" and he'll be working on finding something. That move became useful when Fox found a patch of dirt not covered in snow.

The 2 of them went to work while the girls and everyone else warmed up near the lava pool. Tricky then got digging when Fox told him to and revealed a pressure plate. Tricky can also be told to "stay" on the plate while Fox approaches the gate that is opened by the plate. Behind the gate was a staff switch that can be pulled by putting the staff in the oval-shaped hole and using the staff like a lever. Meanwhile, back at the lava pool, a bridge appeared above it. Fox, Tricky and the others ran back to the pool and crossed the bridge.

When they got to Snowhorn Wastes, Tricky and the girls disappeared. Fox: “Bubbles? Misty? Tricky! Not again!”

Fox and the others continued on through the snowy terrain. When he and the others reached a frozen lake, he spotted 3 Sharpclaws: Bubbles has the 1st's tail held in her teeth while shaking her head and growling like a dog. Misty was kicking the 2nd one in the face. And the last one was chasing Tricky around. Fox went in and beat up the one that was chasing Tricky while the girls took care of the other 2 that they were busy with.

Soon enough, both Fox and Misty regrouped with Tricky. Misty: “What were you thinking, Tricky? The Sharpclaws are extremely dangerous! Just leave them to us.” Tricky: “OK, OK! I'm sorry. Oh, I forgot, if you want me to come to you, just use my "heel" command and I'll be right with you guys, OK?”

Fox and Misty exchanged annoyed looks with each other. Fox, Misty: “Now he tells us.”

After that Fox and his friends explored the place for a while. Tricky was able to dig up some cool stuff, but the most useful things he dug up were 2 alpine roots, which they soon learn that they were food to these woolly mammoths, called Snowhorns. They learned that when they gave one of them to the only Snowhorn in the area. It kept complaining that it was too hungry to talk to strangers. When Fox gave it the root, he was rewarded with a small scarab bag that held 50 scarabs in it. When he gave it the other root, it told him and his friends that the only way to get to Thorntail Hollow is to go through a tunnel that's outside this area.

They soon exited the area and found this other Sharpclaw in the way of the tunnel called a Bribeclaw. It said that if they wanted to pass then they have to pay 20 scarabs. Good thing they got that scarab bag from that Snowhorn or they would have been stuck for sure. After paying the Bribeclaw they traveled through the tunnel and found themselves back in Thorntail Hollow.

Heartbreak

Prompt: “You love her, don’t you?” “Look, I...” “No, it’s okay. I get it. She is... amazing and beautIful. Everything I’ll never be.”

Today had been a shitty day and I could not wait to get home and see my girlfriend of 3 years, Kai. My boss had been a pain and my coworkers were getting so annoying I only barely made it through the day. These days, the only thing I had to look forward to was Kai. I was already done with today as I turned the key to unlock my apartment door. I saw her with one of her best friends, Sage. There were candles lit on our coffee table and they were both holding a glass of red wine, deep in conversation. They hadn’t heard me come in, as they kept talking. I turned away to set down my keys on the counter, when I looked back I saw Kai kissing Sage. My girlfriend of three years, THREE YEARS, had cheated on me, right in front of my face. I didn't know what to do, I froze in shock. Finally I got my voice back and screamed, “Kai, SAGE ! HOW COULD YOU DO THis TO ME? get out, Sage, GET OUT.”

Sage grabbed her stuff and left, leaving me and Kai alone.

I was quiet for a while, then I walked over to Kai and sat down on the couch next to her.

“Why?” I asked, my voice low and full of pain.

“I don't know... I just..”

I stopped her before she could even finish her sentence and asked, “You love her, don't you?”

“Look, I...”

“No, it’s okay. I get it. She is... amazing and beautiful. Everything I’ll never be.”

Kai stared at me in shock as tears started to well up in her eyes.

“No, you don't get to cry. You're the one that did this to us, to me. So miss me with that shit. You fucked up and you know it. You should've broken up with me the second you started developing feelings for her. No one forced you to drag it on, but you did.” I said, trying not to cry..

I felt kind of bad placing all the blame on her, but I was too hurt to care.

She looked at me with even more sadness in her eyes and said, “ I take full responsibility. It is my fault. I’m sorry I didn't tell you. It scared me, how she made me feel. She made me feel like I was on fire, as if I was experiencing life for the first time. I’m sorry.”

Her words left me shocked, heartbroken, more sad than I've ever been. I looked her straight in the eye and said “You have 5 minutes to pack up and leave. Don't come back.”

“What? You can't do that! This is OUR apartment!” she exclaimed

My voice got cold and deep as I said, “Kai, you know how I get when I'm mad, don't make me kick you out, please. I don't want to hurt you.” She stared at me with eyes wide with fear and ran into our room to grab her stuff. In less than 5 minutes she packed up and was out the door. As soon as she closed the door behind her I completely lost it, everything I had been holding in was coming out. Big, heavy sobs full of pure pain and anger racked my body. I ran into my bathroom as I prepared to do something I promised I would never do again. I opened my cupboard and looked into the floss packet we always had and opened it. As I took out the razor that I swore I would never use again, all the thoughts of pain and anger popped into my head. Images floating through my mind... when my cousin sexually abused me at age 9. When I used to get bullied, when I came out to my best friend and he refused to accept me. All the times I had felt so much emotional pain that I had to get it out with physical pain were swirling through my mind. I calmed down enough to see clearly and touched the razor down on my wrist, pressing harder than I should have. I did this 8 more times all down my arm. I was bleeding like crazy, but seeing my blood pour out of my own veins calmed me down. I was watching my blood pour into the sink when I started seeing black dots. My entire screen of vision went black and I fell to the floor.

I awoke in a strange bed, wearing something a little too breezy, a bright light in my face. There was someone holding my hand and my wrist was heavily bandaged. I looked over and saw Kai. The person I least wanted to see right now was here, holding my hand at the side of my hospital bed. My voice was raspy as I said, “What are you doing here?” her face full of worry and disbelief as she said “You tried to kill yourself, Y/N. Why wouldn't I be here? Why didn't you call me? You promised you would never cut again.”

Enraged I respond, “Yeah well, you promised you would always love me but that promise means shit now. You have no right to be here, especially after what happened last night.” Guilt took over her features as I realized that maybe I went too far, just a little. But at this point, I didn't care. All I cared about was the fact that she cheated on me, and she didn't even seem sorry about it. "Who even brought me here?" I asked. "I went back because... because I forgot something. I found you passed out on the bathroom floor, lying next to a pool of your own blood. I called an ambulance and they brought you here." she said.

“Bullshit. You didn't forget anything, and even if you had, you wouldn't have come back.” I replied. She looked at me, doubt and guilt in her eyes as she said, “Okay fine. I went back because I felt terrible. I saw the hurt in your face when you saw me with sage and i couldn't bear to think that i was the one who caused you that pain. I feel so guilty, Y/N. I feel like I lost the one thing in my life that was keeping me grounded, you. I remember when we met. We were in 2nd period English, freshman year. You asked me if I was homophobic and i just shouted ‘I’m gay.’ Before that, I had always thought you were beautiful, not only because of your physical appearance, but because of your soul.” Tears were running down my cheeks, I was in shock at Kai’s words, wondering why she never told me. She continued, “You have such a strong, fiery soul. You speak your mind and your not afraid of the consequences. You don't take shit from anybody. I’m gonna be honest, it scared me a little because I had never met anyone like you. I felt myself slowly become infatuated with you. And then that one day, you started talking to me, and I was so happy. I thought ‘why me? Out all the girls she could like, why did she choose me?’ I felt guilty, I thought that I could never give you everything you deserve, because you deserve the world, Y/N. The entire world.” At this point, she was crying too, and I sat there in silence, not knowing what to do. I finally resolved that if she cheated on me once, she would probably do it again, and I deserved better. I deserve someone who loves me and doesn’t cheat on me, no matter what, someone who can be there for me and cherish me and help me grow as a person, not someone like Kai. Someone who hurt me more than she helped. Yes I suppose, in the past she helped me, but people change. I make a decision that will hurt me forever but in the long run will help. I stop crying, look her straight in the eye and say, “Kai, we’re over. I can’t keep doing this, you hurt me too much. Get out of my room, block my number, and never talk to me again.” She stared at me wide-eyed, even more tears filling her eyes as she ran out, a big sob racking her body as she reached the door.

My first Sprint Triathlon Experience

I could probably count on one hand how many times I trained for each sport event leading to the weeks that I put on that tight one piece. Not that I didn't take the training seriously, but that's what my time allowed for me to do. Just so freakin' happy that I did finished my first triathlon event.... AND LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT! ... And gotta love those automatic PR's: 1:31:33

Morning of :

SETTING UP:Found a spot in the 2nd row of the racks next to a Brazilian lady #55 who looked like she knew what she was doing, and another nice lady named Brenda who helped me a ton! First, she did mention to keep a narrower space for myself in case someone wanted to come next to me. So i did. Then another lady came super close to my front tire with her stuff. She looked a little more nervous. And even Leanne, the lady who checked me in came by and said hi to me! She said she's been doing tri's since her late 20s and she’s now 60! You go mama! She looked like early 40s. Dang, I wanna me like that! So i'm feeling super NEWBIE status and I'm here looking like a lost child haha. I asked Brenda if theres a certain way she sets up her transition area and yup! Makes sense. Place it in the order you'll be using it.

Here are some things I wish I knew: Bring something I could step into to rinse my feet. Maybe a stool would help? Have my phone ready to go on my bike. Stretch your hamstrings and hip flexors with the ball and foam roller more. And a huge thing: having a running belt! Since i knew i had to run with my number on me, I took my lululemon fanny pack strap and attached my number to it. Brenda was the one who told me I didn't need to put my number on yet as I was practicing putting my pins on haha. So thank God i had that. Or else I would be fidgeting with it.

SWIM:

Training: Thinking back to my first time ever competitive swimming event at the Honolulu Triathlon (Sprint - 750m), it made me want to practice this more than anything else. I really thought this might be the hardest part for me during the actual race day. The last time I had am actually in person swimming lesson was when I was like 5? Lol so, I read my books (usually the most confusing bc I need to visualize everything), watched some YouTube videos, and observed swimmers as I went to Palolo Valley Swimming pool. After discovering this pool that was only 5 min from my gym, I went a total of 3 times to practice on my swim! Each time I would do at least 600m, just to practice harder than my actual race length. One time I got 700m in the 40 min I decide to swim. You don't realize how much of a workout swimming actually is! One of the biggest lessons I learned is to STAY CALM. In the midst of putting my body in a mild hypoxic state where you're not breathing as you normally would. "THE BREATH IS SO IMPORTANT" - seriously cereal! As a Yoga teacher and personal trainer that starts with talking about the breath and diaphragmatic breathing, I realized that without this, we are nothing! Well, not nothing, but we are more likely to get anxious and if so consistent, could lead to depression! No good!

Anyway, back to the swim training! I also swam in open water like twice only, but next time think I should do more because the ocean water vs pool water is like night and day difference. From the breathing technique to just the extra resistance you get from the thickness of the water, current, and waves, I'll definitely be swimming more in open water. Elenor, the nice older lady who's retired from doing like idk 20 or 40 ( i just know a lot lol) of triathlons, she said the same thing, especially 2 days before the race which was the last time I swam to train.

Day of:

Favorite part!! (Surprisingly!) I was probably most excited for this because I saw how working on my technique since the HNL TRI has worked for me!! As I jumped into the water to swim to the buoys to start, i started feeling a little like "sea sick." Never felt that before going into a swim. We had 3 min to swim to the buoys bc i was on the 2nd heat! (Go orange swim caps! Pink would have matched me but i wouldve had to be doing the relay. Lol i would mention this bc my color theme was black, grey, and bright pink haha) Ran into fewer ppl this time at the start. Thank God! Being kicked in the face and swam on my legs isn't a joy. Mma in the water anyone? Haha During the swim, I was just focusing on breathing technique and continuing to swim without stopping. OH! and making sure i was swimming in a straight line to my destination. I was actually done in what felt to me was a quick 12 min and 44 seconds. I still had energy to run barefoot to the transition area! Yeeee! Haha

TRANSITION: should have not messed with my phone and trying to put it in my ziplock bag to put in my back pocket haha. Oh well. Lesson learned! I will need to get one of those bike phone things. Also my bluetooth didn't connect to my phone and fitbit. But i put my phone and fitbit on for my bike and run.

BIKE

Training: I purchased my bike only like at the end of July from a guy that didn't need it anymore for super cheap in comparison what they normally go for. Thanks facebook marketplace! Lol! So i was told to get clips for the pedals and to get specific tri shoes. Went to the Bicycle Shop first to let them check my bike out. Turns out that my tires were extremely flat! I get one of these . I rode it for 3 miles before that around Kapiolani park to just get used to it. Also used for maybe only 2 miles at Lanikai. Felt normal to me, but hey... what do i know! I felt so accomplished just doing that! Went to Boca Hawaii to get those. I had no idea that i actually had to put the clips on the bottom of the shoes. Learned a lot from the chick who didn't even bike but helped me to pick out the shoes and clips. It was then i realized this is not going to be a cheap sport. $120 tri shoes, $55 clips. Then i checked out the biking gear. Got myself my tri one piece. The girl (forgot her name)told me ppl like it bc it gives less room for drag or something like that. I got the small so it was skin tight. Plus i thought maybe i would lose weight if i trained more. $150. Thankfully i got the friends of Boca discount.

Brought myself to Ko Olina to practice with my clips. I was told by a friend and also the girl working at Boca. "Yah. You're going to fall." And me in my head: “Nah. I know how to ride a bike.” Best believe, put on clip in for the first time. Then BOOM. Fell over on the side i put my one clip in! Even the Ko Olina security asked me if I was ok. Haha. Felt super comfy with it. Riding fast is fun! Just my butt hurts after a while sitting. Did 3 miles that day too. The next time i biked, ran, and swam at Ala Moana it wasn’t that far. My last time practicing riding was half the course of the actual. Went to Kahala area to diamond head and around Monsarrat. Learned I shouldn't stop when charging a hill. Had to test out my gears and go on a hill. One of the scariest parts for me is trusting all the cars around me to not run me over. Single lanes for a car and bike freak me out. I now know how a biker feels with cars speeding up next to him or her. Im like 1. Don’t fall 2. Don’t fall. 3. Don’t get hit. Thank God for helmets! Thankfully i didn't fall or get hit this time. Lol!

Day of: I learned so much!! Felt fast from my swim and ready to bike like a wild woman lol. Took long deciding whether to put my phone in my back pocket in a zip lock or int pouch. Big no no bc it cost me some time! Kind of slow getting my clips in the bike after reviewing some of the footage Rich uploaded of me. But once i was off, I was off! They had huge blue signs with black arrows which showed me where to go. One of the most challenging parts was avoiding the potholes on the road in the quick turns in the neighborhood. My favorite part of biking was riding down the hill on kilauea ave. I figured out to change my gears on the hills which wasn't so bad dafter all. It actually felt faster than 46 min. The hardest part was going up Monsarrat. I'm so glad that we had the whole road to ourselves so we don't need to worry about getting run over. Cops blocked traffic every time they would see a bike coming. I was so glad to come to the finish line and see Rich there recording me and cheering. I slowly got off my bike because the inside of my thighs and upper hamstrings were done. It felt like i was coming off a long ride off a horse.

RUN:

Training: i would practice a slow jog after practicing on the stationary bike to "condition" my legs. This was not nearly enough to simulate how it would actually feel on race day but what did I know! I never biked more than 6 miles outside. Only about 14 miles inside on a stationary bike then to a .7 to 1 mile jog walk. Nope! Not like it!

At the transition: I put my Lululemon socks on, already had my number on from the bike transition, and put on my favorite Hoka running shoes. Put on my Lululemon Visor and BAM! I was off!

Day of: i haven't hurt that much starting a jog/run. To motivate me, the little girl who was 11 old passed me up with her mom! At first, i passed her but maybe into the first mile i felt soooo uncomfortable. I felt restricted so i unzipped the front of my one piece tri suit. Ahhhh... homer simpson status?! Lol Just wanted to get to the finish line but enjoying my last few moments of my first tri! When I ran, i felt like I could think more clearly. Talked to myself a lot to motivate myself. What was going on in my head?! Thought about how grateful I was to God for giving me these abilities to do a triathlon"Are you pushing yourself the most you could!?" I sped up. All the way to the finish line. Pretty much a sprint with my legs hurting already. Saw Rich yelling, and BOOM! Didn't slow down til I was past the finish line! At the end, i went to the booth to get my shirt - which was my medal. About 10 minutes later I saw my friend Milli and then about 20 minutes later I saw my brother, mom, sis in law, baby nephew, and their dog. It was so great to have them all there!

After: In about 30 min to 45 min I checked the scores. It said I placed 3rd. So during the awards, they called my age group (25-29 yo) and the 3rd place winner. It wasn’t me! So I thought, it’s okay. I didn’t place. Then they said on the mic, “In 2nd place, Bernice Aurellano!” I was pretty shocked. Came home with a cool successory too! Earrings! Check it out:

Definitely doing it again. Actually, just signed up for my next triathlon sprint this coming Sunday! Excited to see what my body, mind, and spirit are capable of doing this time around. To the Ko Olina Race we go!
