Inking and coloring practice

I was practicing how inking and coloring traditionally. A lot of the traditional drawings I drew are sketches because when I inked the lineart. I mess up bad and sometimes when I color it bleeds out of the lines. I lost the confidence to try it again after that x_x.

I hope to do this more later on.

This is the Buddy for September 25th. I had it saved for a while, and it was a bit of a quickie, but I like the overall look.

I know there are a lot of cartoons nowadays that have a really generic 3/4th look to all the characters that make them all blend together, and make the show look kind of like a visual novel - where the art exists only to let the viewers know which characters are present in a scene and where it takes place, rather than showing off their actions, personalities and relationships within space.

That does kind of suck, although I still like a lot of animated shows in that style. And it works pretty well at times, when the simplistic art helps make it clear what's going on - it can be a big help. The problem is in the character design itself - if characters don't look memorable, it makes it a bit harder to process what's going on (especially since nowadays there are so many different cartoons competing for our attention), and that little difference might be what sets apart an engrossing story from a generic by-the-numbers comedy.

what constitutes being a monster in spn is so deeply interesting bc so much of the show is used to argue that monstrosity is not about what you are but what you do. And that you can always be a better person, your monstrous traits aren’t necessarily actually monstrous.

but as the show goes on we learn that this is only true if dean deems you human. So sams monstrous traits must be buried deep and thrown out in order for him to be good. Sams monstrous friends are inherently evil bc dean says so. Deans monstrous friends are fine though, of course.

I’m just eternally wishing for a version of this show where sams abilities are so deeply ingrained in him that he can’t ever get rid of them. And he’s allowed to be a hero regardless. Give me a season 5 where sams eyes randomly go yellow. Or he has to deal with demon traps or he needs to control his emotions bc anger from him can be literally explosive, but regardless of all of this he still shows dean more compassion than dean ever leant to him in season 4. And regardless of all this he still beats the devil.
