How are they with their pregnant companion? Tighnari
Synopsis: Pregnant, your husband/partner is over the moon. But how would he take care of you during pregnancy?
Style: Cute, fluffy, female reader.
Bonus NSFW (18+) I remind minors to avoid reading this kind of content.
Alert: May contain story spoilers for some characters.
Characters: Tighnari.
Note: I wanted to do Capitano and Kaveh at the same time as Tighnari, but having had the flu this week, I unfortunately didn't have the strength to move forward. I still wanted to get something out for the holidays. I hope to have time to do Capitano and Kaveh for the new year. I really enjoyed writing this for Tighnari, I got very attached to the character, especially from my other fic "Before the Sun and Moon." (I unfortunately didn't have time to translate the last few chapters into English). I hope you'll like it!

"Tighnari, which color do you prefer?"
Tighnari was working on a poison remedy for foresters when you walked in with a pair of clothes in hand, one fir green and the other indigo. "Um… Indigo, I'd say." And once he had given his opinion, he returned to his research, not catching your insistent gaze on him. After a few seconds of your lover remaining focused on what he was doing, you noticed that his body froze, ears and tail erect while his eyes were as round as an owl's. The clothes you brought him were far too small for an adult… Tighnari turned back to you, his eyes darting between what you held in your hands and your face. The gentle smile you offered him and then your nod propelled him into a daydream. You were pregnant, he had been waiting for this moment for months! The fox man rushed to you, lifting you off the ground to trap you in a warm, loving embrace. He was finally going to build a family with you, his beloved. He was the one who brought up the idea of a baby, the enthusiasm and warmth of his words making you melt for him more and more. Before he met you, he was once a distant and solitary man, preferring to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city, the academy, and the plots. It was in his genes, he was made that way. But with you, everything was different. He loved you more than anything else and the day he asked you to be the mother of his child was the most beautiful proof of love he could offer you, not to mention his marriage proposal…
Tighnari would only tell close friends about your pregnancy, so Cyno will be the first to know. Although he feels a great affection for Collei, he will prefer to wait a little before telling her that he will be a father in a few months. He knows that she is quite emotional and awkward, so it was better to bring it up gently.
You both chose to stay in Gandharva, the atmosphere being more peaceful than in the city of Sumeru. It will be Tighnari who will take care of you during the whole pregnancy. Nevertheless, he will not hesitate to ask for advice from colleagues when his knowledge reaches its limit.
Tighnari will do his best to be by your side as often as possible during the first months of your pregnancy, wishing to support you during the first trimester which was the hardest for a pregnant woman to bear. He knows that his presence reassures you and calms your anxieties as a mother-to-be and Tighnari is well aware that this child must be expected by two.
Your husband will always be behind you when you feel ill, gently stroking your back if you are vomiting, or applying an herbal balm to your temples to soothe your headaches. He will stay by your side when you sleep, rocking you tenderly, his soft eyes admiring your face. Maybe you dreamed it, but you could swear you heard him whispering words of love in your ear…
Unfortunately for you, your sleep will often be disturbed during the first weeks. Tighnari, having a very developed hearing, will wake up at the slightest noise you make. Seeing that your eyes are wide open, the man will whisper a few soft words to you, his hand tenderly caressing your face to numb your senses before wrapping you in the warmth of his arms. He will only fall back asleep once he feels your steady breathing against his skin, indicating that you have fallen into a peaceful torpor.
Tighnari has made a habit of letting you stroke his ears and tail when you're stressed, even if he's in the middle of his work. He knows that this soothes and comforts you. He'll usually wrap his arm around your hips and pull you closer to him, resting his head against your belly.  Anyone in Teyvat could tell you were the most adorable couple they had ever seen.
Being a forestry brigadier, Tighnari is sometimes forced to be away in the forest for days at a time. You both hate being away from each other, and even more so now that you are pregnant. Fortunately for him, you get along well with Cyno, who will always offer to take some time to visit you and check on you. "I want your child to call me uncle Cyno." He will say with a serious look to Tighnari as a token of thanks. The fox man will look at him blankly, ears lowered as Cyno nonchalantly raises his thumb in the air before joining you. "Ah?!" Was all that Tighnari found to say, his friend being already too far away to hear him (or pretended not to hear him…).
It is after a long week of absence that Tighnari realized the volume that your belly took. Slightly rounded, hardly visible to those who were not paying attention. For your husband, however, it was obvious and he found it beautiful… Seeing you, the one he cherished most in the world, going about your business as your child grew inside you. He couldn't help but look at you in silence, his eyes full of love and tenderness.
You were in the early stages of your second trimester, and your belly had taken on a shape that made Tighnari blush with joy. How many times did he feel like he was being slapped in the face by the evidence of your pregnancy? He couldn't stop looking at your belly, let alone touch it. So in those moments, you'd invite him to join you on the couch or bed, making yourself comfortable before inviting him to rest his head on your belly, stroking his hair as he savored the moment. "Tighnari, I'm sure our little boy will look just like you." The man laughed against you, gently making the baby react against his cheek. "Why do you think it will be a boy?" "I saw him in a dream." Tighnari looked up at you, clearly amused. "Oh, then it will be a girl." Your eyes opened wide, further amusing your husband. "You have a 50/50 chance of cheating on you my love, so my money is on a little girl. Besides, how many mothers have been wrong in their dreams of their unborn child?" You grunted, frustrated by your husband's words. He reassured you, however, whispering that no matter what sex the baby was or who it looked like, he would love and cherish it as his greatest treasure.
Your outings into town were always in pairs. Tighnari would stay by your side, affectionately holding your hand as he nonchalantly strolled the streets of Gandharva. Your belly was now perfectly visible to everyone, prompting locals who knew you well to approach you. Tighnari's colleagues and friends even dared to ask you to touch your belly, despite your husband's reluctance… He begged the Rani Kusanali to help him when he felt the impatience rising in him at the sight of all these people touching you without fear in front of him… Your husband has become particularly good at finding any excuse to keep you away from the crowd…
When you reach your seventh month of pregnancy, it becomes increasingly difficult for you to rest, especially when the baby seems to be living its best life in your belly. Although fun for those who touched your belly, it was unfortunately something that made your daily life more exhausting. The pain in your back intensified with the fatigue and stress of the approaching birth… When you felt exhausted, you looked for your husband who was your lifeline when you felt like you were drowning in uncertainty and doubt… Tighnari would listen to you calmly before taking you to a quiet place to sit on him, his hands and lips taking over his words to soothe you.
As you approached your ninth month of pregnancy, you felt unable to move because your belly was so round and heavy. Exhaustion was showing on your face and the pain in your back was becoming unbearable. Tighnari had become the one thing in your life that made you feel safe, cherished and loved. You relied entirely on him… As you were nearing the end of your pregnancy, Tighnari took a few weeks off to devote all his time to you. When he wasn't busy with household chores, your husband would sit on the bed next to you, chatting quietly with you while keeping his head and hands on your belly, enjoying your caresses in his hair. He cherished his moments of intimacy with you, basking in your caresses as he felt his child playing in your belly. He had told you so many times since you were together, but by the seven archons, he loved you more than anything in the world. Tighnari has never felt happier…
Tighnari will be an extremely gentle father, never raising his voice at his child, believing that education should not be about obedience, but about self-respect. He loves the contact with his baby, looking for every possible excuse to hold him. Having already had Collei under his wing, he will be very pedagogical with his little one, loving to answer his questions and teach him new things.
NSFW Bonus:
It was not easy to imagine that Tighnari was the kind of man who sought physical contact, he who was always known as a solitary man, preferring to hole up in his office or go off into the forest on his research and patrols. Yet he was the first to come to you and claim you, loving and savoring every part of you with a consuming passion. You had never felt so loved and wanted as you did with him…
Seeing your body change with pregnancy, you were afraid that it would turn him off and that he would pull away from you while your sexual desires only intensified. Your fears were unfounded, and while Tighnari avoided touching you for the first few weeks of the pregnancy, preferring to give you time to recover from the nausea and exhaustion that your first few hectic nights had caused, once he felt your intense gaze on him, he knew he could once again indulge his need to touch you.
He was always the first to make contact, approaching you from behind like a fox looking for its prey and wrapping you in his loving arms as his lips sought the softness of your skin. His hands always lingered on your belly before slowly moving up to your aching chest, massaging it languidly as you felt his canines nibble tenderly at your neck. He always had loving, passionate words to whisper to you before he started anything, telling you how beautiful and desirable he thought you were with his baby in your belly. He knew that you were afraid that you wouldn't be desirable anymore, that the stretch marks would appear more and more as your belly grew… Or even that the thought of making love to a pregnant woman might scare him away from you. But you were beautiful in every way, pregnant or not, Tighnari needed to feel you against him, your warm skin, your moans and the melodious whisper of his name when he made you feel especially good…
The sex was always passionate and languid, and while you liked to hold him, Tighnari had a preference for taking you doggy style. Although it was easier for you and for him with your increasingly rounded belly, it was a habit he'd picked up long before you got pregnant. He was always gentle with you, only getting carried away when he felt your orgasm approaching. His lips were never far from your skin as his ears strained, the pleasure he felt inside you making him dizzy. He was always careful not to crush you, constantly keeping a protective hand on your stomach.
As soon as he felt you tighten around his member, Tighnari would slow down to savor the feel of your tight walls, before straightening up behind you, grabbing your hips to lift you a bit off the mattress you were lying on. He would seek release as soon as you calmed down, flipping you onto your back before penetrating you again. The quick movement of his hips made you moan and Tighnari crushed his lips to yours to swallow the vibrations of pleasure from your throat. And as he felt his orgasm pouring into you, one of his hands grabbed yours, tangling your fingers together as the pleasure overwhelmed him, his moans swallowed by your passionate kiss… Archon, he loved you so much it was painful. His forehead resting tenderly against yours, Tighnari closed his eyes, thinking of how happy he was to be starting a family with the only woman he'd ever loved…

i. scarlet quartz
Your fiancé is nowhere to be seen.
A look around the ballroom only confirms your solitude. Your parents are chatting within their social circle, far too busy to give you any attention. Your sister, in a similar vein, is approaching prospective business clients. Your friends are absent.
You glance at the decorative mirror on the wall. Your ears are folded back and your tail is thrashing. Your carefully-planned outfit is one out of many colorful images reflected in the glass.
Why are you even here?
The terrace is a breath of fresh air. You close the double doors and walk over to the ledge, taking in the view of Liyue Harbor. From your level, the lights of the city resemble dainty yellow jewels. The sky is studded with a glittery expanse of stars.
Your Scarlet Quartz jewelry gleams under the dull moonlight.
You had spent hours picking your dress and accessories. But what is the point if no one will appreciate it?
“Miss?”
Warm light spills from the open doorway. It disappears just as instantly.
The person approaching you is a stranger, a fashionable figure clad in dark clothing and violet jewels. His spectacles are adorned with a bejeweled silver chain.
Your ears flatten. “I beg your pardon, sir. Do I know you?”
Elegant appearance. Wavy black hair with a light streak in it. Snezhnayan style of clothing. Who were the Snezhnayan names on the guest list?
He gives you a polite smile. “We haven’t had the honor of meeting before, I’m afraid. I am the owner of the Northland Bank; you should be familiar with the alias ‘Pantalone.’ And you must be ______, correct?”
The Regrator.
You curtsy immediately. Any attempts at hiding your shock are dashed by the involuntary movements of your ears and tail.
“Yes, I have heard about you! My apologies for not recognizing you immediately, Lord Harbinger.” You pause, looking up. “And how do you know my name?”
“The Lai Lineage is well-known for their luxurious feline features. From that point, it was easy to narrow down your identity.” He peers at you through his lashes. “Am I mistaken?”
“No, you are correct.” You straighten your posture, tail poised. “I am Lai ______, youngest child of the family. What made you visit the terrace?”
He walks over to your side and faces the ledge. “I simply wanted to appreciate the view of Liyue from above. Quite the lovely sight, isn’t it?”
Your gaze returns to the city lights. “I agree.”
You can still hear the muffled sounds from the ballroom. Chattering voices, dance steps, the foreign orchestra. The music switches to a slow, lively waltz.
You glance at Pantalone. His gaze is transfixed on the stars this time.
“Will you return to the ballroom? I am sure that many people are looking for you.”
“And what about you?”
You twist the bracelets on your wrist. “I will stay here for a while longer.”
“Well, in that case, may I have this dance?” He turns to you and holds out his hand.
Under the moonlight, his invitation could not look any more tempting.
You take his hand. “It would be my pleasure.”
He is wearing black gloves with an assortment of bejeweled rings. His perfume is a strong blend of sophisticated fragrances.
“Shall I lead?” he asks. His other hand is already touching your back.
Your free hand rests on his shoulder. “You may.”
The music continues. Pantalone leads and you follow.
“Has anyone told you that you are a good dancer, Miss ______?” he asks.
Your tail brushes against his legs. “I’ve received formal training, but I don’t have many opportunities to dance in Liyue. What about you?”
His grip on your hand tightens. “I am self-taught for the most part.”
“I could not tell. Your dancing is excellent, my lord.”
The waltz is ending. Right before the final spin, an idea hits you.
Pantalone twirls you. You activate your Vision.
“Oh?” He almost stumbles. The fire reflects in his glasses.
“Just a few special effects!” You wave your fingers, producing more thin flames. The sparks encircle the two of you in red threads and curlicues.
He laughs, pulling you closer. “What a lovely surprise!”
The music stops. The flames dissolve into the air.
“Well, Miss ______.” Pantalone adjusts his glasses. His eyes are wide open, gazing at you in wonder. “That was quite the dance. I was not aware that you own a Pyro Vision.”
You give him a bright smile, revealing the glowing red accessory on your belt. “Did you like it? It gets everyone’s attention.”
He is still holding you. “It was absolutely enchanting.”
The doors creak.
“______?”
You let go of his hand. A familiar pair of fluffy ears peek out from the doorway.
“There you are! Were you here this—” Your sister stops in her tracks. “Lord Harbinger?”
“Chairman Lai.” Pantalone’s polite smile has returned. “I just had the pleasure of making your younger sister’s acquaintance.”
Her tail swishes. “I hope she has been pleasant company.”
“Only the best.” Pantalone gives you one last smile before he walks to the doorway, bypassing your sister. “Thank you for your time, Miss ______. I hope to see you very soon.”
The doors close behind him.
Your sister faces you. “Were you on your best behavior?”
You nod. “Yes, Jiejie. I was surprised; I didn’t expect the Regrator to be so charming.”
She shrugs. “Knowing someone by reputation cannot compare to meeting them in person. From what I’ve heard, he is one of the more…approachable Fatui Harbingers.”
“He is quite the catch.” You smile at her. “Suitor number four, maybe?”
“Hardly!” she scoffs. “Shady associations aside, his family background is a mystery. I doubt he comes from reputable means.”
“Whatever you say. By the way, have you seen Chairman Jin?”
“He was speaking with the Qie heiress earlier.”
“Oh.” You run your hands through your hairstyle, subtly hiding your ears. “Jiejie, can I be your plus-one instead?”
She frowns at you. “I have associates to speak with. If you are bored, you can remain here or go bother someone else.”
“...All right.”
You reenter the ballroom and walk past your parents’ group.
Pantalone is speaking to them.
He catches your eye and smiles.
ii. vajrada amethyst
A few days after the gala, you get dressed for a new occasion.
“A meeting with the Regrator?” you ask your handmaiden.
Ru helps you into your dress. “Yes, my lady. Your sister and Chairman Jin are interested in opening a joint enterprise. It is a major investment so they are requesting a loan from the Northland Bank.”
“Hence the family dinner.” You attach your Vision to your belt. “But why am I attending?”
“I heard that you spoke amicably with the Regrator at the Shang family’s gala.”
Of course. Why else would you be included?
For jewelry, you select Vajrada Amethysts set in silver. Your engagement ring clashes with your outfit, so you slip it off your finger and leave it in your jewel box.
⬩◈⬩
“Lord Harbinger!” Your father bows. “We are honored to be in your company!”
Pantalone enters the room. “You flatter me. Have I kept you waiting?”
“Not at all,” your mother replies. “We arrived just a few minutes before you.”
“Thank you again for handling the dinner reservation,” Jiejie tells him. “It must have been difficult to reserve a room at Xinyue Kiosk on such short notice.”
“It was hardly a hassle.” Pantalone takes the empty seat between Baba and Jiejie.
The seat across from you.
He smiles at you. “We meet again, Miss ______.”
You bow from your seat. “Thank you for your invitation, Lord Harbinger.”
Tea is served. A few minutes later, Pantalone speaks up.
“So this is the esteemed Lai family.”
“Excluding our son,” Baba corrects him. “He is currently a student at the Sumeru Akademiya. He plans to join the family business once he graduates from the Kshahrewar.”
“You must be proud. And I understand that your eldest child has been in charge of the company for a few years now?”
“Yes,” says Jiejie. “I have been involved from an early age.”
“And what about Miss ______?”
Silence. You stare at your lap.
Mama’s tail hits your leg under the table. “Little ______ has…other skills. Our ancestors’ legacy is of no interest to her.”
Not if they had taught you anything about your family business.
“She is engaged to the heir of the Jin family,” Baba adds quickly. “If our son passes his thesis this year, they may hold their wedding as soon as he comes home.”
“I am already aware of that.” Pantalone drinks his tea, peering at you over the rim of his cup. “Do you have anything to add to that, Miss ______?”
You shake your head. “No, I don’t.”
Your saving grace is a knock on the door. Masked waiters enter your private room with Fullmoon Eggs, Golden Crab, and other Yue delicacies. The conversation turns to the food, restaurant comparisons, which wine pairs best with certain dishes.
You finish your meal and take a deep breath. So far, you have shown perfect behavior. This should prove useful for the Jin family dinners.
“Now,” says Pantalone, “I believe it is time for us to discuss your little business venture.”
The mood shifts.
Mama and Jiejie are doing an excellent job at keeping their ears in check.
Pantalone’s voice becomes serious. “You and Chairman Jin are requesting quite a large sum of Mora. Even speaking as a banker, your calculations seem a little improvident.”
Mama shakes her head. “The Lai Lineage has been expanding their wealth since the Cataclysm. It will not end with us.”
“I see.” Pantalone taps his fingers on the desk. He is wearing the same set of rings. “If the Northland Bank agrees to the loan, you are expected to pay us back in exactly a year, naturally with interest. Do you have that much faith in your proposal?”
“Of course, Lord Harbinger. We trust our daughter.”
“And what do you think, Miss ______?”
What?
You look up. Pantalone’s professional smile has returned and his hands are clasped together. But his charmingly polite image is completely negated by his gaze.
He looks as though he is staring directly into your soul.
Your ears lay flat against your head. “Excuse me?”
His gaze remains fervent. “Do you believe that your family is worth my time and resources?”
Now your family is looking at you.
“I believe so.” You hold down your tail. “I would be pleased if my family could work with you, Lord Harbinger.”
“Well, I can always recognize a good investment.” Pantalone nods at one of the masked waiters. “Tomorrow, we may go over the contract with the Jin family. For now, I propose a toast.”
The waiter brings over a foreign bottle and a set of wine glasses. The wine is blood red with a rich aroma; you recognize the label as an expensive brand from Fontaine.
Pantalone swirls the wine in his glass. “By the way, I will be regularly visiting Liyue over the course of the year. I am quite interested in what the region has to offer these days. Would any of you have the time to extend your hospitality?”
“Oh, ______ can do that.” Jiejie sounds confident this time. “She is extremely familiar with the city’s shopping centers and fine arts establishments.”
At least she is not complaining this time.
He turns to you. “Do you mind?”
You smile at him. “You can count on me, Lord Harbinger.”
You have no one else to spend time with, anyway.
“Excellent.” Pantalone raises his glass, rings gleaming under the light. The smile on his face is, without a doubt, directed at you. “I look forward to our new partnership.”
iii. smaragdus jadeite
The next day, your family allows you to visit their office.
You almost get lost in the maze of hallways, but you find your way back by the time Pantalone leaves the conference room.
“So where do we start, Miss ______?” He looks as stylish as ever. The fitted dark suit and silver chains compliment his figure.
You glance at the doorway. Jiejie is holding the signed contract, tail sticking upright. Chairman Jin is drinking his tea.
He does not bother to greet you.
You face Pantalone again.
“I thought we could start with the Heyu Tea House for their opera performances. Then we can go to the Mingxing Jewelry—the owner knows me—and eat at Liuli Pavilion for dinner.” You stare at your purse. “Are you fine with that?”
“It is worth my time.”
The two of you walk to the exit. Before you leave the building, he turns around to face you.
“Oh, and I must say. Your choice of apparel today is absolutely stunning, Miss ______.”
⬩◈⬩
“My lady, this letter was addressed to you.”
You can only stare at the envelope in Ru’s hand. “Me?”
The seal carries the official symbol of the Fatui. Upon opening it, you are greeted with a familiar fragrance and an embossed sheet of stationery.
-
Miss ______,
I must thank you again for your hospitality. My time in Liyue was immensely enjoyable on account of having you as my personal guide.
My next business trip is scheduled to take place in two months’ time. Would you be so kind as to greet me once you receive word of my arrival?
Yours, Pantalone
P.S. A new boutique in Snezhnaya has recently caught my attention. I believe that these purchases will make a fine addition to your wardrobe.
-
“Ru?”
She tilts her head. “Yes?”
You hold up a pair of violet ribbons trimmed with black lace. “I would like to tie my hair. Any style will do.”
⬩◈⬩
During his next visit, you bring him to your favorite boutique.
“What do you think of this?” You hold up a Noctilucous Jade brooch this time. “I noticed you have a fondness for diamond patterns.”
Pantalone allows you to pin it on his shirt. “Are you a regular customer of this establishment, Miss ______? The employees seemed particularly familiar with you.”
“I am.” You take a step back and twirl around the room. “This shop specializes in clothing from different regions and time periods. I take great joy in styling my outfits.”
His gaze flits to your neck. “That explains your affinity for foreign necklines and vintage hanfu. Or is that simply to make room for your necklaces?”
You are wearing a heart-shaped locket this time. “I simply adore necklaces. They make beautiful statement pieces.”
The shopkeeper returns from the backroom. “Lady ______, I forgot to inform you that the brooch is part of a set. Would you or your friend like to try on the matching necklace?”
They open a velvet box. The silver chains and diamond-shaped jewels are arranged esclavage-style. It would look nice with your dress.
Pantalone turns to you. “Are you interested?”
You turn around, facing the mirror. “Can you help me put it on?”
His touch is warm. You remain still as Pantalone unclasps your locket and replaces it with the jade necklace. His fingertips press against the back of your neck.
“Does it look lopsided to you?” he asks.
“A bit.”
The main pendant is not centered. You raise your hands to adjust it, but Pantalone is already doing it. His hand trails across your clavicle.
His perfume is different. It smells the same but there is a hypnotic edge to it. Did they change the heart notes?
You are sure that Pantalone can feel your tail swishing between your bodies. “It looks okay now. Thank you.”
He meets your gaze in the mirror. “The necklace looks wonderful on you. I have no use for it, but I would like the brooch for myself.”
It suits him. “In that case, would you like to pay for the set together?”
He raises an eyebrow at you. “Miss ______, you already asked the shopkeeper to set aside a few rings for you. What will your family say when they see the bill?”
“They don’t mind.”
If they cared, they would have encouraged thriftier interests.
“Whatever you say. How many more shops shall we visit? I cannot imagine that you brought me all the way to Liyue’s fashion district for a few jewels.”
“Oh, naturally. There are still so many stores to visit.”
You miss this. When will your friends find the time to revive your shopping trips?
You smile at him. “You are quite attractive, Lord Harbinger. It is fun to dress you up.”
“Hmph, flattery will get you nowhere.” Pantalone walks over to the counter and returns the brooch to its box. “But since it is coming from you, I will believe in your sincerity.”
⬩◈⬩
Your parents arrange another date between you and your fiancé.
“Sorry for being so busy lately. The Qie heiress and I have been negotiating business dealings with her family’s company.”
Just how stupid does he think you are?
You smile at him. “It’s perfectly fine.”
Chairman Jin is still staring at the menu. He holds your hand and you resist the urge to leave the table.
“Let me make it up to you. Are you busy later, love?”
You almost laugh at the sound of that word. “Not at all.”
“Would you like to visit my estate later? Our bedroom has already been furnished.”
Not again. Archons, spare you. “Sure. By the way, how is work lately?”
“The new enterprise is going along splendidly,” he replies. “The Regrator will be pleased with our progress.”
“I most certainly am.”
Speak of the devil.
The two of you look up. Pantalone offers a friendly smile.
“Miss ______, Chairman Jin, what a lovely surprise. Am I intruding on your date?”
You shake your head. “Not at all. Are you dining here with someone?”
“Unfortunately, my companion had to cancel at the last minute,” he explains.
“You can sit with us, if you want.” Chairman Jin thankfully lets go of your hand. “Wanmin Restaurant serves a variety of delicacies. We can order more if you are with us.”
“I appreciate the gesture. Do allow me to foot the bill.”
Pantalone drags a vacant chair to your table. The waitress arrives and you place your orders.
Chairman Jin begins speaking. “Regarding our most recent report—”
Pantalone cuts him off. “This is no formal meeting, Chairman Jin. It would be rude to talk business in a social situation, unless you plan to explain the details to Miss ______.”
He blanches. “Of course. My apologies, Lord Harbinger.”
It is difficult to suppress the smile on your face.
Pantalone turns to you. “It just occurred to me that despite our months of friendship, I know little about the two of you as a couple. How did your engagement come about?”
Stick with the story.
“Our families have been good friends for generations,” you explain. “Chairman Jin is the same age as me, but I spent most of my time with my childhood friends. Regardless, we fell in love when we least expected it.”
Love. What a cruel lie.
Pantalone nods. “What a charming story. I would not have expected it from you.”
“What about you, Lord Harbinger?” asks Chairman Jin. “I am surprised that an eligible bachelor such as yourself is still single. You have so many admirers.”
“Oh, me?” He straightens his glasses. The jewels on the chain glint under the light. “I already have my eye on someone, but I have yet to make them mine.”
What a lucky person.
Your fiancé nods. “Good for them. I wish you the best of luck.”
“Thank you.” Pantalone looks at your left hand. “By the way, Miss ______, I couldn’t help but notice your ring. Your sense of fashion is impeccable as always.”
“Oh, this?” You point at the ring on your index finger.
Normally, you would be happy with his observation. But not today.
“That is her engagement ring,” Chairman Jin explains. “I chose it for her.”
The ring is a thick gold band topped with a vibrant green jewel. If not for the basic design, you would like to wear it more often.
Pantalone leans in for a closer look. “What kind of gem is it?”
“Smaragdus Jadeite.” Chairman Jin gestures to his Dendro Vision. “A perfect match, isn’t it?”
“...A fine choice.” Pantalone sits back, a tad faster than his usual pace. His polite smile returns. “Only the best for your bride, after all.”
⬩◈⬩
A black cat interrupts your tour of Yujing Terrace.
“Oh, hello!” You crouch down in front of it, a string of purrs and meows leaving your lips.
The cat remains in its spot but responds with a high-pitched yowl.
From behind you, Pantalone laughs. “I almost forgot about your feline biology, Miss ______. Is it true that the Lai Lineage can communicate with fellow cats?”
You shake your head. “The Lai bloodline is already mixed with human blood, including that of my father. Aside from a few differences in biology, we are certainly more human than feline.”
If only you had that ability. The stray cats in your neighborhood would have made lovely company.
He is still standing over you. “And what of your species? Are feline hybrids classified under different breeds, similar to ordinary cats?”
“I would not know. I’ve heard of the Kätzlein Bloodline from Mondstadt; they are renowned hunters, so their genes must carry specific abilities and physical traits. Whereas the Lai Lineage has always been a family of businessmen and aristocrats. And we certainly lack the sacred powers or duties of the Adepti.”
You point at your ears. Your tail loosely wraps around Pantalone’s ankle.
“The rumors about our fur are true. My handmaiden always tells me that my ears and tail are incredibly fluffy. Given the shape and texture, I have reason to believe that we are more similar to domestic cats than wild felines.”
“That would be a logical conclusion.” Pantalone crouches down to poke the tip of your tail. He looks at the black cat. “The cat is a stray, isn’t it?”
You nod. “No collar, and its fur is quite matted. Poor thing.”
“We passed by a pet shop earlier. Would they take in the cat?”
“I doubt it. That establishment only sells purebreds and exotic breeds.”
“That is their loss. A common feline has its own charms.” Pantalone faces you. “What are your thoughts? Do you believe that a cat’s value is to be ascertained from the moment of its birth? In order to determine its desirability and its place in the world?”
He must really like cats.
“Not at all,” you reply. “I believe that any pet should be liked for its personality, not its background or circumstances.”
“It is good that we see eye to eye on this matter.” He stands up and gestures for you to do the same. “I would like to continue my tour. We can buy some cat food for our little friend before we leave.”
iv. azurite
“A letter from my brother arrived this morning. He passed his thesis.”
“In other words, you and Chairman Jin will be married soon.”
“We still have two months to prepare for the wedding.”
Pantalone doesn’t look at you. “Congratulations. The wait is almost over.”
You stare at the ceiling. The crystal chandeliers resemble twinkling stars against the dark wallpaper. Whether it is his own mansion or rented property, Pantalone’s estate in Liyue is as grand and mystifying as its sole resident.
The living room is still strewn with board games and cold teacups. Pantalone had been merciless in every match, particularly those which featured strategies and mind games. You could only play along and lose to him.
“You are invited, of course.” You open your purse and take out the gold-sealed envelope. “I told my family that I would give this to you personally.”
He makes eye contact with you. “You do not look happy for a bride-to-be.”
Your ears twitch. “Perhaps I am just salty from our last game.”
Upright officials are hapless in household affairs.
He stares at your hand before accepting the invitation. “No engagement ring? I rarely see you wear it.”
You shrug. “It does not match all of my outfits. Chairman Jin doesn’t mind.”
“And here I was, thinking you might be looking out for my personal safety.”
“Are you pertaining to your lack of a Vision, Lord Harbinger?”
The room becomes silent.
Why did you say that?
Pantalone’s eyes flash. “The Fatui Harbingers are equipped with Delusions; but to state the obvious, the gods have never gifted me a Vision. Let us leave it at that.”
You hang your head. “That was absolutely tactless of me. I apologize.”
“Don’t worry, I know that your intentions were not malicious.” He glances at your hip. “What is the story behind your Vision?”
“I would rather not divulge the details,” you reply. “All I can say is that it happened during one of my birthdays.”
“It must have been quite the wonderful present, then.”
“You could say that.”
-
It happened shortly after you ended your “tantrum” over the news of your betrothal.
Your parents threatened to disown you. You realized that if independence was without financial comfort or luxury, you were better off taking advantage of your fiancé’s apathy.
Your Vision had been the perfect consolation prize. A gift unlike the material distractions from your family, one earned through your own individual abilities.
If only your family’s attention had not been due to their fear of your flames.
-
Your Vision glows against your belt, a ray of promise. The only special thing about you, forever deprived of its full potential.
“Thinking about it now, I do question the criteria for receiving a Vision,” you mutter. You turn to face him. “I respect you immensely, my lord. You are ambitious, multiskilled, and far more worthy of receiving a Vision than me. I am blessed to have you as my friend.”
For a moment, Pantalone only stares at you. Then he begins laughing.
“I am equally fortunate to have met you, ______. You never fail to amuse me.”
Your name sounds so lovely when he says it.
“Keep calling me that, please,”  you mutter. “After my marriage, fewer people will call me by my first name. I will be mainly addressed as Mrs. Jin in the future.”
“I understand.” Pantalone rests his hand on your shoulder, a warm smile on his face. “I should continue preparing my wedding gift. I have a feeling that you will enjoy it.”
⬩◈⬩
After the wedding invitation, Pantalone stops requesting your company. A short letter addressed to you explains his “influx of work and a mission from the Tsaritsa.” Your engagement ring becomes a frequent accessory over the next month.
Chairman Jin remains scarce. Your parents and future in-laws take charge of the wedding plans, from the program to the guest list to every decoration.
Your dress is delivered to your room, an old-fashioned garment which looks more like a costume. Your friends find time in their busy schedules to help you pick your jewelry.
Your final choice is a set of gold bangles studded with azurites.
⬩◈⬩
Your family is shouting.
“Ru.” You stand in the corridor, clutching your shopping bags. “What happened?”
Ru sends a nervous look to the other servants. “We are not sure, my lady. They have been like this ever since they returned from the office.”
You could hear them as soon as you stepped through the front door. The commotion is coming from your parents’ private study.
You knock on the door. Jiejie is the one who opens it.
“Jiejie.” You can’t look her in the eye. “Is something wrong?”
“Everything,” she huffs. “Why don’t you come inside?”
The room is a mess of papers and folders. Your parents look absolutely haggard.
Your tail puffs up. “What happened?”
Baba is the first to speak. “Your sister’s idea was a failure.”
What?
Jiejie glares at you. “Don’t ask for the details. You wouldn’t understand. Just know that we were doing well up until recently.”
“Recently,” Mama says bitterly, “when the past months were already plagued with minor incidents.”
You don’t understand. “How?”
“I don’t know!” she snaps. “All you need to know is that we are ruined once the Northland Bank demands their repayment. We plan to install locks on the doors, for Archon’s sake.”
“Are you sure? Have you spoken with the Regrator? I could…”
“Do what?” asks Jiejie. “Little ______, in case you have forgotten, your friend is a Fatui Harbinger. Do you think he will forget about this if you ask him nicely?”
You look away. “...No. But is there anything I could do to help?”
“You could stop burning away our fortune, for once.”
A slap would have been less painful.
“That is enough.” Baba gives you a tired look. “Just go to your room. Leave it to us to sort things out.”
“That is the problem!” Jiejie shouts. “The two of you spoil her too much. Do you think it is fun reviewing her receipts and watching her laze around the house?”
The two of them begin shouting again. Mama intervenes.
Even when you are the subject of the argument, none of them notice your departure.
⬩◈⬩
“My lady!”
Ru is the first to approach you.
You walk past her.
Your shopping bags are still in the corridor. What did you buy again? A dress imported from Mondstadt. A ribbon for your tail.
Useless.
Ru takes a step back. “My lady, your—!”
The paper and fabric burn easily. You let the ashes slip through your fingers and scatter onto the carpet. Mama will scold you once she sees the mess.
Regardless of what happens, you are still moving out of this house.
The night sky is cloudy. There are no bright stars to greet you.
“Ru.”
“Y…Yes, my lady?” She remains in the entrance, staring fearfully at your Vision.
“Please prepare a carriage. I would like to see the Regrator.”
v. shivada jade
The estate is heavily guarded compared to your last visit.
“My lord!” The masked servant—no, Fatui agent—kneels before the door. “You have a visitor!”
The door to Pantalone’s office remains closed.
“State their name and purpose.”
There is an authoritative edge to his voice. The agent glances at you.
“Your visitor is Lai ______. She was insistent on meeting you to discuss her family business.”
Warm light spills from the open doorway.
Pantalone is wearing his classic outfit, another dark suit embellished with violet jewels and silver adornments. He looks perfect, not a hair out of place.
“______, I’ve been expecting you.”
Your tail wraps around your waist. “You have?”
“I figured that you would come to me for answers. Your family does not strike me as the type to share business details with their own child.”
The scent of his perfume is soothing. You had almost forgotten that aroma.
Pantalone places a hand on your shoulder. “You look terrible, darling. Why don’t you come inside and make yourself comfortable first?”
“Thank you.”
The office is tidy. The cozy atmosphere is a welcome change from your parents’ study.
Though you rarely visit it to begin with. That room could be in perpetual disorder and you wouldn’t have noticed the difference.
Pantalone gestures to the chair in front of his desk. “Sit. Would you like something to drink? I had just told a servant to brew a pot of osmanthus tea for me.”
You take a seat. “That would be nice.”
The desk holds an abacus, some pens, and a stack of reports weighed down by bright blue jewels. Shivada jade slivers, you think.
Pantalone’s chair is almost thronelike, made of upholstered dark fabric and intricately carved wood. As he sits down, you can easily imagine just how terrifying and powerful the sight must be for anyone else in your place.
You are not here to negotiate business with the Regrator, however.
There is a knock on the door.
“My lord, your tea is ready.”
“You may enter.”
The door opens. Another Fatui agent bows and places a traditional tea set on the desk. They carefully pick up the teapot and fill two cups.
Pantalone turns to them. “You are dismissed. Unless the matter is of utmost importance, my meeting shall not be disturbed.”
The sharp look in his eyes is enough to scare you. You had almost forgotten that your friend is a Fatui Harbinger.
“Yes, my lord.” They leave immediately.
The osmanthus tea is wasted on you. You can only manage a few sips before you put down your cup.
“Thank you for your hospitality. I…I don’t know why I came here.”
Pantalone’s gaze is sympathetic. “How is everything at home?”
“Not good.” You grip your tail. “Can you tell me what is going on?”
“Certainly.” He opens a folder and flips through the documents. “Simply put, the Jin-Lai enterprise has been a financial failure. On top of low profit and revenue, there have been recurring issues. Shipments gone missing, payment miscalculations, and most recently, the withdrawal of several major clients.”
“I didn’t think it was that bad,” you mumble. “My family had been so confident about the proposal. You even decided to fund it.”
“Even the most meticulous can fall prey to happenstance. Your family just so happened to be unlucky—or incompetent.”
No wonder they kept you in the dark.
Pantalone looks up from the folder. “I hate to break client confidentiality, but I believe you should know this: The Jin family is struggling financially to a far greater degree.”
“I see. That…they must be so anxious.”
“I am more concerned about you.” He holds your hand across the desk. “At this rate, your family and your future in-laws are set for financial ruin. And this does not account for their debt to the Northland Bank.”
You squeeze his hand. “And if we find a way to pay off the loans?”
“Even then, your wealth could not possibly be restored to their former glory.” He says it with full confidence, leaving no room for doubt.
No more shopping trips or material consolations. You will only become a bigger burden to your family.
Your cheeks are wet. You don’t know how long you have been crying.
“You poor thing.”
Soft silk presses against your face. You accept the handkerchief.
“Thank you for telling all of this. I…I don’t know why you are still so kind to me,” you sniffle. “I can’t give you anything to repay the favor or to help my family.”
“Oh, I wouldn’t say that. As a matter of fact, I can offer a solution to one of your problems.”
You look up in confusion.
Pantalone is looking at you differently.
“I will confess that you have intrigued me over the past year,” he tells you. “You are quite the captivating jewel, ______, but your value is clearly underestimated by your family and your fiancé.”
Your tail puffs up. “What exactly do you mean by that?”
Pantalone is still holding your hand. He intertwines your fingers.
“I am asking you to become my wife.”
What?
“Lord Harbinger,” you stutter. “This is not a funny joke.”
His gaze narrows. “Do you take me for the type to joke about the marriage contract?”
“No!” you reply quickly. “I just…I don’t understand. Why me? You just said that my family owes you money and has no chance of paying it back. Shouldn’t you at least discuss this with my parents first?”
What could you possibly give him?
“Oh, ______. Do you still not get it?” He speaks slowly, as though he is teaching you a basic fact. “I am proposing to you, not the Lai family. Is that so difficult to comprehend?”
You nod. He sighs and lets go of your hand.
“Then think about it from your perspective. What do you gain from this?”
Financial stability. A partner who actually cherishes your presence.
“You, of all people, know of my status as the Regrator,” he continues. “I can provide you with comfort and luxury far beyond your current means. If you become mine, everything you desire will be yours.”
There must be a catch. This is too good to be true.
“And what would be my duties as a Harbinger’s spouse?” you ask.
“In my case, you will attend the occasional social function as my partner. But for the most part, you only have to live with me in my estate in Snezhnaya.”
It does not sound too bad. Not too different from your current situation.
His lips quirk into a smirk. “There are also your marital duties but that should not be a problem since you already find me, in your words, ‘attractive.’”
You cover your face. “Please don’t—! I am still trying to process everything.”
“You would be wise to make a quick decision, ______. Time is of the essence, and opportunities like this rarely arise.”
You look up.
Pantalone’s hands are clasped together and he is staring at you, waiting for your answer.
At this rate, he is the only person who will ever want you.
Your hands are trembling. You grip your tail and put on your best smile.
“In that case…I accept your offer. Thank you for your benevolence, my lord.”
He smiles. “Excellent. I knew that you would see reason.”
Despite yourself, you feel like a huge weight has been lifted off your shoulders.
“Is there a contract I need to sign?” you ask. “Anything to make this official?”
“We can sign the marriage documents later. But for now…” Pantalone stands up and leaves his desk. “...why not seal it with a kiss? It is best to familiarize ourselves with each other before our wedding.”
“If that is what you want.” You leave your chair and stand in front of him. “Um, how would you like to do this? Do you have any preferences? Eyes closed or open? With or without—?”
“Oh, ______.” He laughs and pulls you closer. The only thing protecting you from his gaze is his glasses. “Just let me take care of you.”
With that, he presses his lips against yours.
The kiss is anything but demure. As soon as you pull away for air, Pantalone reclaims your mouth is a rough manner. His hand cups the back of your head, the other one settling on your waist.
You are practically drowning in his perfume. He isn’t giving you a chance to escape.
“My lord!”
Whoever they are, this Fatui agent seems important enough to open the door without permission. They kneel immediately.
Pantalone breaks off the kiss and glares at them. “Were you not informed that interruptions would not be tolerated?”
This is the first time you have seen him look so openly irritated.
They hold up a sealed envelope. “I bear a message from the Jester.”
Pantalone sighs. He is still holding you, and you know better than to establish any distance from him.
“Leave it on my desk,” he tells them. “Before you retire for the night, pass on a message to the Lai family. Tell them that their daughter will be staying in my estate as a guest and that they may see her at our wedding next month.”
Next month?
You clutch his arm. “Wait, isn’t that too soon?”
He raises an eyebrow at you. “Is there a problem with that?”
“People will talk.” You stare at the floor, tail between your legs. “They will question the cancellation of my old engagement and the timing of our wedding. They may even suspect that you were already courting me over the past year.”
He only laughs.
“My darling, I am one of the richest, most powerful men in Teyvat.” He grasps your chin and gives you a light kiss. “My status will not be threatened by a few silly rumors.”
vi. noctilucous jade
Your wedding is completely different from your parents’ original plan. The color scheme features violet accents. Fatui personnel are hired as security. The guest list includes important names from Snezhnaya and other regions.
Your main piece of jewelry is the Noctilucous Jade necklace purchased from your favorite boutique. Pantalone is just as touchy when he helps you put it on.
“Did you ask my family for it? Was it awkward?”
You are still getting used to your reflection. The custom-designed wedding dress is the most beautiful outfit you have ever worn, with its elegant silhouette and detailed embroidery. Your hair is styled with black satin ribbons.
It is almost unfair how dashing Pantalone looks in the traditional attire for Liyue bridegrooms. He is wearing the Noctilucous Jade brooch along with his usual violet jewels.
“They showed no animosity,” he replies.
To him. You are a different story.
After a short pause, he adds, “There is no need for you to return to their house. Your necessary possessions have already been packed.”
Your ears twitch. “What do you mean by necessary?”
“Sentimental items. The clothes and accessories which seemed particularly important to you.” Pantalone secures the clasp of the necklace and adjusts the pendants. “I can buy a new wardrobe for you in Snezhnaya. We can visit the shopping districts together.”
“...All right. My family can just resell my things. The money will help them immensely and you won’t have to deal with extra luggage.”
Has the necklace always felt this constrictive?
Pantalone’s hands move to your tail, securing the ribbon bow. “Your tail has been erratic all day. Pre-wedding jitters?”
“More like reunion jitters,” you reply. “After all, I am seeing my family and high society for the first time in a month.”
“You will be fine.” He meets your gaze in the mirror. “For a second, I assumed you were having second thoughts about marrying me.”
⬩◈⬩
The ceremony goes smoothly. You and Pantalone are officially proclaimed as spouses. The Flower Ball is caught by Xingqiu. Guests approach you to congratulate you on your marriage.
He was right. Everyone is acting as though your original engagement never existed. If anything, you are receiving more attention as the Regrator’s wife.
While Pantalone chats with business associates, you approach your friends. They are happy for you, if not confused by the change in your situation. Their wedding gifts include long-sleeved dresses and fur-lined coats for the Snezhnaya fashion scene.
You belatedly realize that your meetups will become even more infrequent. At least you finally have your own responsibilities to keep you preoccupied.
Towards the end of the event, your family privately approaches you and Pantalone. Your brother’s presence is what breaks some of the tension.
“Gege.” You leave Pantalone’s side to hug him. “It is good to see you again. How long has it been? Ten years?”
He looks so different, dark eye circles included. You saw his wedding gift earlier; you will enjoy trying on the gold princess-length necklace from Sumeru.
“Nine. You’re all grown up.” His tail intertwines with yours. “Sadly, I have to return to Sumeru immediately. I accepted a job offer after…what happened. Are you well?”
“I haven’t felt better.” You turn to the others. “How are all of you?”
“You don’t need to worry about us,” is all your mother tells you. She gives Pantalone a stilted smile. “Lord Harbinger, our child will be in your care.”
Baba does not even look at you. “Thank you for the generous dowry, my lord. It was unimaginable, considering our circumstances.”
Pantalone only smiles at him. “Oh, please. You should differentiate a debtor’s kindness from a son-in-law’s observance of tradition. By the way, is Chairman Jin in attendance?”
He was invited?
“He isn’t,” says Jiejie. Her ears twitch. “I spoke with him recently. Given the timing of your union, he felt betrayed—his words, not mine.”
The audacity. “That is too bad.”
“Well, that is quite rich coming from him,” says Pantalone, “given that my wife was not the first to breach the pre-marriage contract. It can be argued that infidelity is a far greater violation.”
He knew?
You stare at him. You vaguely register your brother’s questions and the others’ silence.
Pantalone only shrugs. “He was hardly inconspicuous.”
⬩◈⬩
In the month leading up to your wedding, Pantalone was gracious enough to provide you with a guest room in his estate. His own bedchambers are far from comfortable.
“My darling, there is no need to look so afraid.” His smile does not match his gaze. “One would think that I am about to ruin you.”
Why do you feel like a captured prey rather than his lover?
The candles and rose petals do little to comfort you. The dim light casts dark shadows against Pantalone’s figure and sets his eyes aglow. He looks like a beautiful devil, alluring and ominous all the same.
You dig your nails into the mattress. “Forgive me, my lord. It is our first time, after all.”
His thumb traces swirls on your thigh. “Haven’t I waited long enough?”
He was already impatient in the days leading up to your wedding night. Somehow, the heavy makeouts and fleeting touches were still insubstantial preparation for you.
Your tail curls. “You have. My apologies.”
Your Vision rests on the nightstand, the only other source of light in the room. You wonder if it will look good with your new outfits in Snezhnaya.
Pantalone’s next gesture is more comforting, if not sudden. Your reaction is half yelp, half purr. He only laughs and continues scratching the base of your ear.
“Are you purring? And you claimed to be more human than feline.” His words are cruel and sweet. “Does this help?”
“It…it does.” You look up, biting back another purr. “Can we kiss, please?”
“Of course.”
The kiss is passionate as always. Flavored lip balm. Heavy perfume. The chain of his glasses grazing your skin. Gloved hands wandering, cold rings leaving goosebumps in their wake. Your own gasps and pleas for air. A laugh and a kind smile when he decides that he has had enough.
He is greedy. So, so greedy. Yet he always gives as much as he takes.
“My precious jewel.” Pantalone’s eyes are half-lidded. The smile on his face is equal parts angelic and sinful. “After all this time, you are finally mine. Won’t you indulge me?”
⬩◈⬩
“Pantalone, that is enough. My ears are already clean.”
“Are you sure?” He strokes the back of your ear, sending another shiver down your spine. “I am only being thorough. This is my first time grooming a cat, after all.”
You stare at the water. “Please stop teasing me.”
The bubble bath is an unexpected luxury. After all of the kind words and intimate touches, it was your husband’s insistence on proper aftercare which made you cry from the sheer gravity of his affection.
You were equally dazed by the sight of the Regrator with his glasses off and his hair clipped up. But before you could fully appreciate his domestic beauty, he had insisted on scrubbing your back.
“Do we have anything planned tomorrow?” you ask. “What about our honeymoon?”
He moves on to your tail. “I have to continue my work in Snezhnaya. We may have a long vacation once I am less busy.”
Busy. “Of course. I’d like to get used to our home as soon as possible.”
“Your tail is shaking. Are you still nervous?”
“Why do you ask when you already know the answer?”
The thought of the future terrifies you.
You had been prepared for the Jin family mansion in Yujing Terrace, not an unfamiliar manor located all the way in Snezhnaya. You had been raised for Liyue high society, and now you must learn to fit in with a completely different crowd. Your years of local etiquette lessons were a waste.
No mistakes. As the Regrator’s wife, you must be perfect.
He places his hand on top of yours. “Don’t work yourself up over this. I will be with you every step of the way.”
“Thank you. I will be in your care.”
Underneath his fine gloves and fancy rings, Pantalone’s hands are slightly rough. Your fingertips brush against his bare skin, feeling the calluses and light scars.
He tenses. “Your hand is so soft.”
“I can lend you my hand cream later.”
“I doubt that it will change anything.” He takes your hand and lifts it to his lips. “This is lovely. I can get used to doing this regularly.”
You shift your legs under the water. The bubbles disperse, and you catch a glimpse of the love bites decorating your thighs.
He had been cloying and relentless all night. The bath isn’t helping your sensitive state.
“I would appreciate it if you could be more gentle,” you admit. Your face burns. “You were quite…intense.”
His teeth dig into your skin.
You gasp. When you turn your head, Pantalone is still holding your wrist and there is a ringlike bite mark around your index finger. His smile is far from innocent.
“I just need to train your body for that.”
vii. sango pearl
The Regrator’s manor in Snezhnaya is palatial. The local architecture, dark and light color palette, and classy decorations create an ambience which is both subdued and exquisite. The veneer of refinement is unlike the opulence of his estate in Liyue.
Despite his moments of extravagance, your husband has a calculated eye for this. Perhaps you can send some pictures to your family.
The staff contribute to the mysterious atmosphere. They all wear masks, from the guards to the domestic help to your two personal handmaidens. They keep themselves scarce and answer only to your husband’s commands.
Ru will be sorely missed. Hopefully, she has already found a new family to work for.
The doors and gates are always locked for security reasons. You will have to get used to that as well.
⬩◈⬩
You quickly learn the full extent of Pantalone’s responsibilities. From the Northland Bank to Snezhnaya’s economic policies to his Fatui missions, he is always working.
“I’m home.” He shrugs off his fur coat and kisses your forehead. “How was your day?”
You wrap your arms around him, breathing in the scent of his perfume. “It was all right.”
Dull, to say the least.
What are your friends’ day-to-day activities? Yuehua is leading her family business. Yinji is in charge of her household’s affairs. Liangqu is a full-time parent to her baby.
Pantalone expects none of those tasks from you. While he is at work, you spend the long hours styling your Snezhnaya lookbook, taking naps in your empty bed, and experimenting with your Vision. You rarely have any social functions to attend.
At times, you feel more like a pet than a wife.
“______, you are a terrible liar.” His hand cradles your face. “If you feel lonely or neglected, you should tell me. I will make time for you.”
You lean into his touch. “Thank you. I wish I could do more for you.”
Pantalone hugs you back. His hand squeezes the fluff of your tail. “My priceless treasure, you worry too much.”
⬩◈⬩
Your new wardrobe is an elegant mix of blacks and violets. Every outfit is delicate and tight-fitting, prioritizing form over function. Picking your jewelry is the most difficult part.
“What do you think of this?”
You turn away from the mirror. The Sango Pearl necklace is an old gift from Liangqu. The warm tint adds color to your otherwise dark outfit.
Pantalone is already fully dressed. “Unoriginal, don’t you think? We are attending one of the most important galas in Snezhnaya. Every other guest will be wearing pearls.”
Your ears lower. “Of course.”
You have an image to maintain as the Regrator’s wife.
“I have a better suggestion.” He unclasps your necklace and sets a black velvet box on your vanity table.
“Another gift?” You shake your head. “You are too generous, my lord.”
He only smiles. “As lovely as your wedding ring is, I thought a one-of-a-kind piece would make a bolder statement. I had it commissioned for you.”
“Just for me?”
Nestled inside the box is a silver choker with sharp, intricate designs and violet diamond-shaped jewels. A scattering of purple flecks adds a bright pop of color—what kind of crystal particles? Amethyst? Crystal marrow?
“It’s gorgeous!” you exclaim. “This must have cost you a fortune.”
“I spared no expense.” He picks up the choker and clasps it around your neck.
It is a perfect fit. You smile at him in the mirror.
It even matches his signature jewelry. You are beginning to look the part of his wife.
Pantalone looks just as pleased. “It looks beautiful on you. Your outfit is almost perfect.”
You frown at your reflection. “What do you mean by ‘almost’?”
“It is only a minor detail,” he assures you. He points at your belt. “Your Vision clashes with the color scheme. That is all.”
⬩◈⬩
Pantalone leaves for a mission in Liyue. You stay in Snezhnaya.
It would have been a good chance to see your family and friends, but your suggestion was rejected immediately.
-
“This is a mission, not an ordinary business trip. I do not have the time for leisurely visits,” he had told you.
You kept your mouth shut after that.
On the day of his departure, Pantalone bid you goodbye with a kiss and locked the front door. From the balcony, you watched him leave the estate.
He looked up and waved at you before entering his carriage. That was all it took for you to smile and mark your calendar.
-
You are becoming restless in his absence, however.
You ask the guards if a private shopping trip would be permitted. They refuse.
Your handmaidens remain silent. One of them is a mousy little thing who can barely hide her fear of you. Her hands are always trembling as she clasps and unclasps your jewelry.
She rarely touches your necklaces. You wear your special choker on most days.
A week into the mission, she approaches you with a letter sent from Liyue. Your smile falters when she informs you that it is from Pantalone.
Your friends and family haven’t sent any letters. Have they forgotten about you?
The stationery is heavily scented with his perfume. Enclosed in it is a black hair ribbon.
-
My dearest ______,
How are you? As of now, my mission is progressing smoothly. During my travels, I purchased some magnificent gifts for you and the Tsaritsa. Expect a package to be delivered to the manor shortly.
You must be curious about the state of affairs in Liyue. According to my informants, your family has moved to a smaller estate and is steadily paying off their debt. Your friends are doing well, albeit they appear to be quite busy with their own personal matters.
Try not to worry too much. I will return to you as soon as possible.
Love, Pantalone
-
You stare at the final line, repeating the first word in your head. Then you take out your stationery set and write a response.
You can’t find the heart to feign mutuality. You end it with, “Sincerely, ______.”
viii. electro crystal
After much pleading, you are finally allowed to visit Zapolyarny Palace.
“Are you bored?” Pantalone puts down his pen and pets your ears. “I told you that I would only be doing desk work.”
You shake your head. “I am perfectly fine. It is nicer than waiting at home.”
You have to question his request of having you seated on his lap, however.
Your husband’s workplace is even more labyrinthine than your family’s office. The atmosphere is chilly and serious. You know better than to leave his side.
His office is comfortable, though. A spark of warmth filled your chest when you noticed your framed picture on his desk.
“Lord Harbinger!”
The door slams open. A Fatui officer rushes inside and kneels.
Pantalone’s hand presses down your ear. “Is it so difficult to knock first?”
You stare at your lap. You still haven’t gotten used to the sight of his glare.
Their head nearly touches the floor. “Forgive me, my lord! But the Jester summons all of the Harbingers for an urgent meeting.”
You feel your husband’s sigh before you hear it.
“Can you wait here? It is best that you don’t get involved.”
“Of course.”
You leave his lap. He stands up and puts on his fur coat.
“I will come back once the meeting is over,” he promises. He squeezes your shoulder, thumb brushing against your choker.
You nod and take the adjacent chair. “Take care.”
Pantalone turns to the officer. “Guard the door. Should anyone enter and bother my wife, there will be immediate repercussions.”
“Yes, my lord!”
They leave the office. The door closes.
You glance at the desk. There is a stack of folders which have yet to be organized. Perhaps you can finally help your husband with something.
Based on the reports you’ve seen him sign at home, the documents need to be arranged by date. It is an easy task, and you go through it quickly. His smile will make for the best reward.
Feiyun Commerce Guild.
You pause. Wasn’t that guild one of the main clients of your family’s enterprise?
No sign of incoming footsteps. You open the folder.
The documents are incomprehensible. Numbers, statistics, business terms which your parents had never bothered to teach you. Your family’s business is mentioned a few times.
There is an envelope amongst the papers. The seal is already broken.
-
Lord Harbinger,
After reading your report, the Feiyun Commerce Guild agrees with your predictions regarding the future of the Jin-Lai enterprise. We will cancel our partnership effectively.
-
What?
You read the rest of the letter. Xingqiu’s father goes on to mention the responses of the other clients. The letter is dated three weeks before they officially withdrew their investment.
This can’t be…Jiejie was right. You can’t understand any of these business terms.
You check the other folders. None of them mention your family.
The bookcase. You check the shelved reports, scanning for any familiar names. At the end of the top shelf, concealed by the adjacent book, you find a folder entitled “Lai Family.”
You still don’t understand any of the documents, but the first few graphs show upwards curves and positive predictions. The next few papers are calculations and lists of hypothetical worst-case scenarios.
No, all of those scenarios happened. And it is all written in Pantalone’s handwriting.
The remaining graphs show downward curves and negative numbers. At the end of the folder, there are more notes written in familiar penmanship.
Why is there private information on your family?
Your family history. A personality study on your parents and Jiejie. A brief mention of Gege’s studies in Sumeru. Entire pages dedicated to you, with a note on Chairman Jin.
Your hands are shaking. Your tail wraps around your waist.
Your husband…he caused your family’s downfall. To get to you.
⬩◈⬩
“After her!”
Another Fatui officer begins chasing you. You dash down the corridor, narrowly dodging their tackle. It is difficult to run in your dress and heels, but you persist.
Guard the door? No, their job was to keep you locked inside.
A new recruit blocks the exit. A Cryo Cicin Mage from the looks of it.
All of your pursuers have actively avoided harming you, but she could freeze you immobile. You have to attack.
No harmless red threads this time. You direct a flurry of orange flames at her, but she skillfully dodges it.
Your neck hurts.
Did you confuse the mage for her Electro counterpart? You feel as though electric currents are shooting through your neck. The pain is unbearable.
It is the final shock which knocks you out.
⬩◈⬩
The first you thing you register is the shackles on your wrists.
Thick silver cuffs chained to the bedposts, decorated with violet jewels.
The bed is familiar. Your pillow and blankets.
The aroma of perfume is overpowering.
“I was wondering when you would wake up. Did you sleep well?”
Pantalone.
He is seated at the foot of the bed, holding your Vision. He lifts it up to the window, watching it glow in the faint moonlight.
“So this is the gods’ blessing I was deprived of,” he muses. “It is less impressive up close. I may just prefer my own Delusion.”
Give it back.
Pantalone moves to your side.
“I have to give it to Sandrone,” he says. “She used just the right concentration of Electro Crystals to avoid any explosions. She made quite the effective shock collar, didn’t she?”
Your choker.
Your neck still hurts. The shackles make soft rattling noises as you sit up.
“Let…let me go,” you stutter. “You…”
His gaze is absolutely terrifying. You can’t get the words out of your mouth.
“And to think that I would later appreciate Pulcinella’s suggestion for a half-day rest,” he says. His hand reaches out to pet your ear.
You flinch. “Stay away from me! You…you ruined my family. To get me to marry you.”
“Honestly, ______,” he says, placing your Vision on the nightstand. “Cute as you are, I am surprised that it took you this long to discover the truth. But I suppose that perceptiveness is simply not your strong suit.”
His kiss is aggressive. He holds your face and bites your lip when you struggle.
You resist, anyway. Your tail swats his glasses. “No! Stay away or I’ll—”
“Or you’ll do what?” Pantalone pulls away from you and picks up his glasses. “Be rational, darling. What can you do?”
He taps your clavicle. The pain is immediate.
“Your family is at my mercy. All of your assets are under my name. And from what I’ve seen, you are utterly incapable of taking care of yourself. So tell me, ______, how do you plan to leave me?”
You don’t know.
Everything he says is right. You only know how to take, never give. And how could you be so selfish as to ruin your family any further?
You look away, blinking back tears. Pantalone presses his handkerchief against your cheek.
“Shh, it’s all right,” he tells you. “You are safe with me.”
There is no kindness to be found in his smile.
“You are my most valuable possession, after all.”

It's Fine To Fake It 'Til You Make It ('Til It's True) by sunflouwerhabit / @sunflouwerhabit (150k)
Harry Styles @HarryStyles_KE hi again! so, i wanted to apologize one more time for the whole “helogogjs good gksdjid” thing, and also say that i didn’t just accidentally open your DM’s when i wasn’t paying attention earlier. i sort of had a question about a tweet you posted yesterday? like. the whole “rent a boyfriend” thing? is that something you were serious about? and if so, how does one come to hire you to be their boyfriend? i’m, um, asking for a friend
*****
Harry dreads an impending visit to his hometown, where he’ll be forced to reunite with a newly engaged ex-boyfriend, a childhood best friend turned near stranger, and a family who never understood just how desperately he needed to leave.
In the midst of it all, a ludicrous Twitter proposition brings him to Louis.

Been Waitin' (After Weekend After Weekend After) (3k) Louis and Harry meet at a laundromat. Part 1 of (Almost) Exes-to-Lovers When the Trouble Comes (89k) The Queens Trafficking case is the biggest one of Louis’ FBI career so far; eleven reported missing girls all disappeared under a similar set of circumstances. Louis has done everything he can to try and solve this case over the last nine months… while also absolutely ruining his marriage. Harry has been co-host of Banter at Breakfast for five years, and finally has the opportunity to create his own radio show with the network. Unfortunately, it comes at a time where Harry’s thoughts are consumed with his impending divorce from his (caring, loving, infuriatingly thoughtful) husband of eight years. Harry and Louis have both been willing to lose themselves in their work… but are they willing to lose each other? * Or a story of (almost) exes-to-lovers. Part 2 of (Almost) Exes-to-Lovers
And Down the Long and Silent Street by whimsicule (86k)
The year is 1881 and if you’re alone in this world you might as well be dead, because starving dogs have no mercy.
Or: Wherein Louis and Harry are on the opposite ends of the social ladder, but their paths still cross on the filthy streets Louis calls his home. The odds are staked against them from the beginning, and even more when Louis' past finally catches up with him.
Baby Steal My Heart Away by Snowy38 (61k)
Louis headed into the hall, seeing the Moses basket right away.
"Wah-wah-wahhh!"
Was that...
Fuck.
It was. It was a baby! A loudly crying, clearly unhappy-actually properly distressed baby. It was already red in the face and--
Why was there a baby?
He looked up and around, palm flattening to his forehead to push his scruffy hair away from his clammy skin, checking he wasn't being punked.

Harry takes Louis back to Northern Europe to experience his first Nordic Christmas in their beloved cabin, surrounded by nothing but peace and snow. So much snow.

No One Like You by myownspark (19k)
Dear Niall,
I was glad to have the chance to talk with you again at the AHA conference. Your idea that the Musee D’Orsay Tomlinson painting is in fact not a self-portrait is an intriguing one, and I may have discovered something that will have a bearing on that theory.
Some background: as you may remember, I’ve been researching for a book I’m writing about Harry Styles. I’ve been in communication with Styles’ last living descendant, who is in possession of a trunk that her family believed to have belonged to Styles himself. It held some personal items she presumes to be his, including two unmounted paintings and a small collection of letters.
Upon spending the last few days in Provins studying these items, I believe there to be a connection between Tomlinson and Styles, and I would very much like your opinion.
Are you up for a trip to France?
Sincerely, Liam Payne

hello!
this is a little bit random, but do the characters have any specific hairstyles you'd been envisioning for them? or any specific vibes/style when it comes to clothes?
i really like to doodle and this fic is my current brain-focus, so i was curious!
hello suni here! thea answered with some hair references for the entire party here but because i am extra as all hell, here are moodboards for mike and will’s styles (with more for the rest of the party to follow)!
Tumblr media
acswy will is a big fan of sweaters and stripes (!!) and he looooves a good colorblock moment! i see him in a lot of earth tones (it’s easier for him to match and layer that way. he’s just like me fr) with the exception of a few choice colors (bright yellow, red, etc). to Us he’s also a shoes guy but in a very lowkey and Normal manner which is why the bowie reeboks have been in my pinterest board for camp au will for months now bc i think he sees them somewhere and then saves up for months to buy them and then immediately refuses to wear them anywhere out of fear of getting them dirty lol (also peep the byler shoes 👁️👁️) he’ll prioritize comfort over fashion a lot of the time — ergo the infamous hanes six pack of t-shirts from chapter 1 — but when it’s not one million degrees out and when he is not about to get covered in dirt, this is the look he’s going for!
Tumblr media
to us acswy mike is also a big proponent of comfort and and practicality but he’s also a grade A dork LOL he has a thing about jackets the way will has a thing about shoes so thrift finds like his beloved leather and denim jackets are a staple for most of the year! (not summer though. obviously.) i think he would love a good crewneck + shorts moment in the spring especially (the “shorty short shorts” are literally the length of the shorts in the middle photo so idk what will was getting so worked up about 🙄) and he owns one million really stupid shirts that he wears all the time that will definitely does not find endearing. also to us mike loves collecting vintage pins so below the cut are some we think he would have been so so so excited to find:

(the whale one was admittedly a little self indulgent bc i want that pin but who cares i think he’d like it)

Synopsis: There is a rumour that there is a hidden advisor of the Draconia family, who has guided the ruler of all fae for years. They say he is the one responsible for the peace established between humans and fae. What they don’t know, is that he has been doing so for millennia, cursed by the gods to be immortal as punishment for his crime of killing a human who was beloved by the gods—his very own lover, for whom he must forever repent until he can be killed by his true love.

Part 1 ✧Part 2 (you're here)✧Part 3✧Part 4 (coming soon!)
Lilia had hoped the two of them would stay at the orphanage together and live their lives caring for the children while secretly caring for each other as lovers. It was the beginning of a new chapter in their relationship, one filled with love, trust, and a newfound sense of joy. But fate had other plans in store for him, which was made clear to him in the moment.
Tumblr media
"Lilia, my dear general,” the Fae King greeted Lilia with a warm smile, but it quickly faded as he got straight to the point. “I'm afraid I have some grave news to share with you," he said.
The throne room was decorated in a gothic style, with black stone walls and ornate carvings that seemed to watch him as he walked. The room was filled with a solemn atmosphere, the only light came from the flickering candles with green flames scattered throughout the room. At the end of the room, on a raised dais, lay the Fae King's throne, carved from obsidian and adorned with sharp spikes and intricate, twisted patterns. Lilia had been in the room many times before, he remembered the times when he discussed war strategies with the Fae King, the times when he gave his all for his people, and the times when he made choices he wasn't proud of. This meeting would be different than any other he has had before, and the ominous atmosphere of the throne room only added to his apprehension.
Lilia had been washing bedsheets by the river when the guards of the Fae King approached him. His expression unreadable, he asked, "What brings you here?", trying to sound casual, but his voice was tense.
The guards relayed that the King summoned him to his court. Lilia could only accept, knowing that a summon from the Fae King was not to be taken lightly. After quickly casting a spell to teleport the laundry back to the orphanage, he closed his eyes and concentrated, the air around him shimmered and distorted. The trees and riverbank of the human world faded away, replaced by the familiar sights of his homeland. The sound of rushing water was replaced by the quiet hum of magical energy, and the air smelled of burning candles and fresh roses. He was in front of the King's castle when he opened his eyes once more.
Lilia knelt before the Fae King, his eyes fixed on the ground as he spoke. "What is this news you speak of, your majesty?" He sensed that the King's sudden seriousness might indicate that something was amiss.
The King replied in a low, menacing voice, "General Vanrouge, I have decided that we will wage war on the humans once again."
Lilia froze in shock as he heard the words. He had hoped that the days of war were behind them, that they could all live in peace now, and that he could continue enjoying his peaceful life with his beloved. He knew he couldn't bring himself to do it again, to face the devastating consequences of taking countless lives once again.
"Your Majesty, another war? Why must we continue this cycle of violence? Is there not a better way to coexist with the humans? We have already lost so much in the last war. Can we not find a peaceful solution?" Lilia pleaded.
"Peace? With those filthy humans? They will never stop until they have wiped us off the face of the earth. We must strike first, and strike hard," the King scorned in disgust.
"But your Majesty-"
"Silence, general," the King's face contorted in rage, his brows furrowing. His entire body tensed as he pounded his fist on the armrest of his throne, staring daggers into Lilia. You dare defy me? You forget your place as my general and my subject!", he hissed, resonating around the room with all the authority of a king.
Lilia kept his head low and continued to kneel. Knowing the King's temper well, he knew it would not be wise to provoke him further, but he knew he had to make a choice. Either he would obey the King's orders and risk losing everything he had grown to cherish, or he would defy him and face the consequences.
"Your Majesty," he replied steadily. "I cannot in good conscience wage another war on the humans. We have already caused them enough suffering. I will not take part in this war,"
The King's expression darkened. "Do not question my decisions, Lilia. You are a loyal subject of the Fae Kingdom and you will do as I command."
Lilia stood his ground, even in the face of the King's increasing wrath. "I am not just your subject, your majesty. I am a living being with my own conscience and beliefs."
The King’s eyes narrowed to slits as he glared ferociously, "What changed? What has caused this shift in your loyalty?"
Lilia hesitated for a moment before answering, "I have seen the good in humans, your Majesty. They are not all evil, and they do not deserve to suffer because of past grievances."
The King scoffed, "Is it the human you've gotten close to who has led you astray?"
Lilia was taken aback by his words, instinctively looking up, realising that the King had been keeping an eye on him in his travels. Quickly straightening his posture, he met the King's gaze head-on. "No, your Majesty. The human has only shown me kindness and compassion. They have nothing to do with my beliefs."
The King stood, his height towering over the general, step by step walking closer to him. "You have become soft, my general," he said with disdain. "You are a hypocrite. You have always despised humans, you were at the battlefronts annihilating the human forces, yet now you protect one of them. Have you no shame?"
Lilia looked directly into the King’s eyes as a shiver went through his body. "I have come to learn that my past actions were mistaken," he replied. "I no longer wish to continue down the path of destruction I once walked on."
The Fae King sneered. "Mistaken...", he spat. "Humans are nothing but weaklings. They are not fit to be with our kind. You have betrayed your people, Vanrouge. You have betrayed your King."
Lilia could tell from the force his boots hit the ground that he was furious as he continued walking closer, his eyes cold and calculating. "If you do not wage war on the humans, then there is only one other option," he said. "You must eliminate the source of your weakness. Kill the human."
Lilia's body shook with horror at the King's words. He felt sweat gather on his palms, his breath quickening.  After a few moments of silence, he spoke up, his voice trembling with emotion.
"Please, my King," Lilia said, desperation creeping into his voice. "I cannot do what you ask of me. I cannot harm them."
The King's eyes narrowed, "You will do as I say, or you will suffer the consequences. You are my general, and you will not show weakness. If you fail to end their life, then rest assured my dear general, I shall finish the job myself. Your disgraceful actions shan't taint our reputation as Fae."
Lilia felt a tear escape his eye as he realised the gravity of his situation. His mind raced with conflicting thoughts; he wanted to stand up to the King, to tell him that he wouldn't kill the human, that he wouldn't wage another war on the humans. But he knew deep down that he was too weak, that he didn't have the strength or the power to take on the King and his army as he was.
"I understand, my King," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
Lilia felt a cold shiver run down his spine as he rose from his kneeling position and turned to leave the throne room, knowing that he had just sealed his own fate.
He had no choice but to obey. And he only had himself to blame.
Tumblr media
The moon was full, casting an eerie glow on the buildings around Lilia as he trudged towards the orphanage, feeling the weight of his mission heavy on his shoulders. Pushing the door open, he quietly crept inside, making his way through the dark corridors, the only sound being the soft patter of his feet.
Finally, he arrived at the room of his beloved. Lilia took a deep breath and raised his hand to knock, his sword held tightly in his other hand. But when stood there, the reality of his task hit him like an immense wave, making his resolve waver as his mind raced with conflicting thoughts.
"I can't do this," he whispered to himself. "I can't... take their life."
Just as he was about to lower his hand and turn away, the door creaked open, and his beloved appeared, confusion etched onto their face. The moment they caught sight of his sword, fear flickered in their eyes.
"Lilia, what are you doing?" they asked, stepping back.
Tears welled up in Lilia's eyes, blurring his vision. His sword shook as he tried to steady himself. "I... I have to do this," he stammered.
His beloved's expression turned to one of horror and disbelief. "You can't be serious," they gasp. But as they look at Lilia, they see the turmoil in his eyes and the way his hand shakes. "Please, tell me what's going on."
Lilia closed his eyes in an attempt to blink away the tears. He tried to push the sword towards them, but his hand refused to move. "I can't do it, my love," he cried out. "I love you too much to hurt you."
As Lilia looked into their eyes, he knew he could no longer hide the truth from them. "Beastie," he whispered, "I have to leave. The Fae King wants you dead, and I've been ordered to kill you. I can't disobey him."
The human was stunned, their body trembling in shock. "You... you have to kill me?" they echoed, their voice unsteady as tear began to flow freely from their eyes.
Lilia nods, his tears of sorrow continued trickling down his cheeks. "I'm so sorry, Beastie," he sobbed, taking their hand into his. "I never meant to hurt you. Please forgive me, it's all my fault."
As Lilia stepped closer, trying to see their expression through his blurry eyesight, he was surprised to see acceptance in their eyes. "Lilia, it's okay," they said softly. "I understand."
Lilia stopped in his tracks, his grip on the sword tightening. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. This was the person he loved, and they were accepting their fate. "I can't do it, Beastie," he said, his voice breaking. "I love you too much to hurt you."
Their gentle smile, filled with care and affection as it always had only made Lilia's heart ache even more. "I know, Lilia," they said, their eyes filling with tears, their lashes wet and clumped together as the tears overflowed onto their cheeks. "I know... I love you too."
They stepped closer to him and wrapped their arms around his trembling form, forcefully leaning in and mashing their lips onto his. Lilia could only stand there frozen, eyes widened in surprise at their sudden actions. He felt as a warmth seeped onto his hands, and it is only then he realises what they have done.
He pulls back immediately, looking down at his hands coated in red, the scent of iron thick in the air. The sword is lodged deep into his beloved's chest.
"No, no, no," Lilia cried, his mind racing. "What... what have you done...? What have I done?"
All too soon, their strength began to leave their body, causing them to stumble forward. Lilia rushes to hold them in his arms, cradling them tenderly as he feels their life slipping away. Despite years of fighting on the battlefield, unwavering in the face of death, he now felt overwhelmed, the prickly sensation in his heart more intense than ever before.
"I did it for you," they whispered weakly, their breaths becoming shallower by the second. "I couldn't bear the thought of you having to choose between your duty and your love. This way, you don't have to."
Lilia's heart shattered as he heard their words. They had sacrificed themselves for him, and now he was left to face the repercussions alone.
"Why did you have to love me?" Lilia whispered, droplets of tears falling onto their face. "If only- If only I hadn’t gotten close to you..."
As Lilia turned towards them, he was met with a gaze filled with love and forgiveness. Their hand reached up and tenderly cupped his cheek, his tears leaving a moist trail on his skin as they wiped them away with the palm of their hand. "It's okay, Lilia," they whisper. "I forgive you."
Their words of comfort fail to bring him relief however, knowing that his actions have caused irreparable harm. If only he could turn back time, undo everything that led to this moment. Perhaps if he had not met them that fateful day, not stayed with them, not fallen in love with them, they would be living a peaceful life, never to be endangered by him. But it is too late for his regrets now.
"Lilia?" they murmured.
"Yes, Beastie?" he whispered, choked with emotion.
"I love you," they said softly, their arm lost its strength and began to fall to their side, but Lilia cupped his hand over theirs, holding it in place. "Will you… sing for me?" they whispered, eyes fluttering closed.
Lilia lifts his tear-streaked face to meet their gaze and nods solemnly, taking a deep breath. He holds them close and sings a lullaby, a melody that brings peace and comfort to even the most restless soul. The very song that he used to sing for them in the forest under the moonlight.
“Through the endless daydream,
I saw you on the way back.
There I walked with you in my arms.
Through the blurry darkness,
who's veiling on the twilight,
we've been far away from my fears...
Hush, now my angel,
I will always be with you.
In your pretty smile,
in a glow of tears,
out across the frosty night,
I'll be there with you...”
His voice is soft and choked with emotion, his heart breaking with each passing moment. But he continues to sing, pouring his love and sorrow into each note as the song echoes through the room, soothing and peaceful. It's as if time had stopped, and nothing else mattered in that moment.
As the song came to an end, his beloved took their final breath and passed away peacefully with a gentle smile, content in the arms of their lover. Lilia embraced them tightly, tears cascading down his face like rain, grieving the loss of his beloved. His hands trembled as he struggled to accept the reality of what had just happened. Despite his promise to protect them, he had taken their life. He had killed the person he loved most in the world, the one who had accepted his fate with open arms. He had failed them, failed himself, and failed everyone he had ever cared for. Lilia's heart felt as though it was being ripped from his chest as he let out a heart-wrenching cry filled with agony. He had never felt so alone in all his centuries of existence.
He had distinguished the only light in his life.
Nothing else mattered anymore.
For what reason could he live on, in a world of darkness without his dearest star?
In that moment, he made a decision. He couldn't live with himself anymore. He didn't want to live in a world without his dearest human. Eyes devoid of light, the same full red that stained his fingers, he pulled out the same sword that had taken his beloved's life and pointed it to his heart, ready to take his.
Suddenly, a gust of wind shook the entire room, and a bolt of lightning struck a nearby tree, splitting it in half with a deafening crack. A loud roar of thunder followed, halting Lilia in his actions. And then, he heard a voice—not from the Fae King, nor from his human, but from someone far more powerful.
The voice resounded throughout the sky, "You have taken the life of our beloved child. You have been bestowed the punishment of immortality. You will live forever, unable to die until you have atoned for your sin. You will wander the earth alone for centuries, seeking redemption for your actions. You will only be released from your curse when your true love ends you," it declared. With another roar of thunder, the gods disappeared, leaving Lilia alone.
Lilia felt a rush of power surge through his body. He closed his eyes, feeling the energy course through his veins, and he knew that he was no longer a mere mortal. His senses sharpened, and he could feel the world around him in a way that he never had before. The colours seemed brighter, the scents more potent, and the sounds clearer. At first, the sensation was overwhelming, and he clutched his head hoping for it to stop. But then, as he steadied himself, a sense of clarity washed over him. He would never be able to join his dearest in the afterlife, forever haunted by the memory of their death. He wondered how he would survive without them, how he would endure the weight of his guilt and the emptiness that now filled his heart. He wished with all of his being that he could turn back time and undo everything, but it could never be possible.

Lilia carried their lifeless body to the field where they first met, and with trembling hands, he dug a grave for them. As he placed them gently inside, he covered them with earth and flowers, whispering promises to them all the while.
"My love, I'm so sorry. I failed to protect you," Lilia said, his voice shaking with emotion. "But I promise to make it right. I'll honour your memory and ensure that your kindness lives on. Beastie, I'll love you for all eternity."
Lilia then made a vow to make amends for his past mistakes and to honour their memory by living a life of compassion and kindness towards humans. "I'll spend the rest of my immortal life working to make the world a better place and to make up for the pain I've caused, a place where innocent souls like yours wouldn’t be caught in war," he declared to the empty field.
And the first step he must take, is to stop the incoming war.
Once again, Lilia stepped foot into the King’s palace. This time, he had nothing to lose, nothing to fear. Lilia's heart was heavy as he approached the Fae King's palace, but he knew that he had to do what was right. He was determined to make things right, no matter the cost. He had to challenge the King and put an end to the cycle of suffering that had plagued their world for centuries.
At last, he arrived at the throne room, where the Fae King sat on his throne, surrounded by his courtiers. Lilia kneeled as was customary, his head nearly touching the ground, but his presence exuded power.
"Fae King," Lilia said, his voice steady and clear. "I implore you to cease your plans for another war."
"You dare challenge me, Vanrouge?" the King asked, his voice heavy with disdain. "It seems you have learned nothing from your lesson."
"I have learned that I cannot sit by and watch as you continue to put innocent lives at risk," Lilia replied, his voice steady despite the fear that threatened to overtake him. "I will not stand by while you inflict misery upon the humans," Lilia answered, unwavering as he rose to his feet. "For too long, we have lived in a world of violence and pain, of hatred and fear. It is time to put an end to it. I challenge you to a duel, Fae King. If I win, you will obey my orders as an advisor to the royal family. If I lose, I will serve as your general in this war as I had previously"
The King laughed, a cold, cruel sound that sent shivers down Lilia's spine. " A mere traitor and oath breaker challenging me? You are a fool, Vanrouge," he mocked. "But if you wish to die, then I will be happy to oblige."
With a wave of his hand, the King summoned his weapon, a sword of black iron that glinted with malevolent energy. The courtiers rushed to get away from the battle that would surely threaten their lives. Lilia drew his own sword, the same one that had been cursed with his immortality, and prepared himself for the fight of his life.
The two began to circle each other, their swords clanging against one another as they clashed. The battle was fierce and brutal, with both combatants fighting with all their might. Lilia was faster and more agile than the King, but the King's dark magic was a powerful force to be reckoned with. The clash of swords echoed through the throne room, and the air crackled with energy as the two opponents battled on, but the fate of the duel had been decided from the beginning. With his immortality, Lilia could continue to fight forever. Indeed, he would feel the excruciating pain of his injuries, but they could not end him. For hours they battled, until the fatigue finally weighed down the King, and Lilia saw his chance. The King had lowered his guard for just a moment, and Lilia seized the opportunity, his sword poised at the Fae King's throat. The King was defeated, and he knew he had no choice but to obey Lilia.
"Please, spare me," the King begged, panting for air. "I will do anything you ask."
"You have lost, Your Majesty," Lilia said, extending a hand to help the fallen King to his feet. In complete contrast, Lilia seemed completely unaffected by the long duel. "It's not too late to make things right. You can use your power for good, for the betterment of our people."
The King groaned. "Yes, yes, I will. Just spare me, please."
Lilia sheathed his sword. "The war ends today. And if you or any of your followers break your promise, I will be back to finish what I started."
The Fae King nodded, acknowledging his defeat, and Lilia walked away with a sense of victory, knowing that he had achieved what he had set out to do. From that day on, Lilia served as the royal family’s most trusted advisor. He would attend council meetings, offer wise counsel and guidance to the rulers, and utilise his expertise and knowledge to steer them in the right direction.
For centuries, Lilia dedicated himself to rebuilding the relationship between humans and the Fae. He worked towards negotiating peace treaties and fostering mutual understanding and collaboration between the two groups. As time went by, Lilia's efforts bore fruit. Humans and Fae started to interact more and more, and the tensions began to ease. Lilia watched with satisfaction as the world he had known for so long began to transform for the better.
Over time, Lilia became a trusted advisor to many rulers, and he played a key role in shaping the destinies of countless Kingdoms and empires. He used his knowledge and experience to prevent wars and conflicts, and he worked tirelessly to promote peace and unity among the people.
As Lilia walked through the bustling streets of the human city, he couldn't help but feel a sense of nostalgia wash over him. The world had changed so much since 5000 years ago. Humans and fae now lived together in harmony, and he couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and satisfaction. It was a far cry from the war-torn world he had known long ago. Humans and fae were no longer at each other's throats, but instead living side by side in peace and harmony.
He marvelled at the sight of humans casually using magic to go about their daily lives, the fae mingling freely with them. The once-gothic buildings of the fae had melded with human architecture to create a unique, vibrant landscape.
Yet, as he looked around, he couldn't help but feel a twinge of loneliness. Despite all the progress made, he was still an outsider, a being that had long outlived his kind. He had seen so many faces and places come and go, while he remained a constant presence.
It was then that he heard a delicate voice singing, a voice that he believed he would never be able to hear ever again. He turned around, scanning the crowded street, but couldn't see them anywhere. He wondered if he was imagining things or if it was just someone who sounded like them.
But then, he heard it again, and this time he recognized the tune.
"But if I know you, I know what you'll do
You'll love me at once, the way you did once upon a dream..."
It was the song they used to sing to the children at the orphanage. His heart raced with excitement and anticipation as he followed the sound. Upon arriving at the source of the singing, Lilia discovered a small park where people were enjoying the sunny day. In the centre of the park, he saw you sitting on a bench surrounded by children who listened to your singing with rapt attention. Lilia's heart swelled with emotion as he watched you. Your appearance had changed, but your eyes were just as beautiful as ever, and your singing was as angelic as he remembered. He longed to run to you and embrace you, but he hesitated, not wanting to disrupt the moment.
Instead, Lilia stood back and watched you from a distance, basking in the joy of hearing your voice once again. He knew he could not approach you, lest he ruin your new life as he had done before. As the song came to an end, Lilia took one last look at you and the children and turned to walk away. Suddenly, a hand reached out and grasped his wrist, and Lilia halted in his steps.
"Wait! Sir!" you said, looking at him with a perplexed expression. "I've seen you before. In my dreams! Have we met before?"

20 questions for writers
under the cut. Thanks to @everybodyknows-everybodydies for tagging🖤
Tagging back: @nuwanders @jiubilant @ervona @ehlnofay @druidx @blossom-adventures @sylvienerevarine @throughtrialbyfire @da3drat no pressure
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
Five
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
198327
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Just elder scrolls. I have a feeling that's gonna be it for me. I've been tempted to write stardew valley fic lately which would perhaps be classed as "crack" (I know what that is in theory but the way people use it makes no sense to me) but I took a cursory look at the tag and I don't think the stardew valley fandom is ready for a ray fic lmao
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
Well. I have five.
5. Do you respond to comments?
I try 🫠 it haunts me how often I've left my beloved mutuals on read..... but if that's u and I did, I am telepathically beaming this: !!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Making out sloppy style etc etc
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
lol. lmao even
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
.....within AO3 I guess it's "Morning" but also that's set at a refugee camp? I will say the skyrim story will have a more peaceful ending but up until now fic writing has been an outlet for my thwarted rage and covid brain damage soooo
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I mean this is generally a culture of positive feedback. Someone did yell at me once for hitting martin septim with the transgender beam which is a level of no-life-havin loserdom which could be classed as "hate" but came off as pure cope and seethe
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I really bristle at the word smut sorry its too cutesy. I was a prodomme for seven years I don't do euphemisms lol. I wrote a sex scene into IITT to see how I felt about writing sex scenes. I learned that I am only interested in writing them if they serve specific functions. I have absolutely zero judgment toward anyone who wants to write about fuckin and suckin, that's just not why I'm here
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
No but recently my household watched game of thrones together and my bf and his brother were cracking jokes like what if one of these medieval characters had a gundam. Neither of them read fic so I was like don't be too entertained by yourselves. I bet that has been written. looked it up on ao3 and sure as shit
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I'm not gonna lie I did find a fic where someone very obviously ripped me off but I don't wanna call them out. One specific instance where they bit my style was so clumsily applied as to be obvious, but their prose in general was fantastic so like. who care.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Not as far as I know but that would make me holler
13. Have you ever co-written a fic?
Nope. I'm not opposed to the idea but it's hard to imagine how I'd do this given my process. I think I'd be pretty difficult to work with
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
?!? I dunno I don't have one. I put a lot of effort into writing martinhok but I could not say that one, due to how overwhelmingly heterosexual the tag is. I'm sorry but can everyone who's not a faggot please pipe down
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I have my moments with the skyrim wip. I've signed myself up for something pretty complicated and challenging but I also learned that I can finish things so I'm not really worried about it. The fact of the matter is: I do not care if this is good. It matters that it is done so I can move on with my life. If parts of it are boring and overlong that's yalls problem
16. What are your writing strengths?
I get a lot of compliments on my worldbuilding. I do think a lot about the minutiae of material culture and think I have a talent for incorporating detail in engaging ways
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I'm a cornball. This is a corny activity. I don't really care because I'm doing it for free. Enjoy the unsolicited view into an internet stranger's terrible psyche
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I try to apply with a light hand. I'm a dumbass sheltered American and I can mostly make myself understood in a Spanish-speaking country but that's about it. I like playing around with language and the idea of multilingual societies matters to me so I include it, but I'm not a linguist so I try to work within my limits. Whether I am successful at this is up to others.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Elder scrolls. Never felt compelled until i spent a winter playing oblivion and went wow this game has an incredibly bleak narrative behind a silly aesthetic. Oops now I'm in a lore pit
20. Favorite fic you've written?
The Nature of Fire is my best prose hands down. I'm gonna be real with y'all I am desperate for people to read it. It is genuinely the best I can do at this point and if you like what I've done so far, well, whatever u read sucks compared to this fic.

Hi hello, how are you? hope you are doing well friend! I realized I’ve never interacted with you despite having followed for ages, you’re a huge inspiration of mine and Istg all of your fics are absolute bangers 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Any who Im be so real, I haven’t drawn in a hot minute especially digitally so all my proportions are wonky but your hound fic has got me in a chokehold and I had a huge urge to just draw, I assume Hound would have scars but I don’t know where and how exactly so I left him pretty blank. And just how I imagined him other than the other two I covered his face to leave to imagination.
Tumblr media
I draw so much better traditionally cuz I have a messy art style but bam, kachow, idk Hound our beloved
Okay 1: that's super cool and you're so talented dude! :Dd I love love love how hairy and bear-y you made Hound <3 he's a chonky lad lol And Hound learning about him being KIA is exactly how I imagined his reaction to be when it happened :D
And 2: Yeah, I imagine Hound would have plenty of scars, maybe even more than Ghost, but I generally leave it for the reader's interpretation and imagination how and where they are.

social media is a horror to explore
A/N: I totally have no idea how ig live works but uhh here's a valentines mini fic! btw the character's posts aren't necessarily related so this is scenario 3 with Wednesday having no socmed... or does she?
#3: Happy Valentine's Day!
<< >>
Enid’s followers immediately flocked to her stream when the notification popped up. They were greeted with the camera pointed upwards at a beautiful glass ceiling — showcasing the dark clouds and lightning that were in the sky
[woah! hvd! enid where you at?]
[happy valentines day enid!]
[dude that’s fucking awesome! perfect and is so me this vday]
The phone panned downwards and around the mansion. Dark wooden walls that created obscure corners,  tall windows that loomed; paintings of people in all black, still, yet looked as if their eyes were following you.
The comments were freaking out to what was happening to their beloved wolf as they expected a bright and cheery greeting this February 14. A greeting they always get every year
The camera flipped and Enid finally showed her face.
Tumblr media
“So I am totally freaking out. It may not look like it, cause I am trying really hard to contain my excitement but —” she moved closer to the camera until only the upper portion of her face was in the screen “I am at my best friend's house cause she invited me to the Valentine’s ball her family always throw”
[asdklskglhs enid bby r u and ur roomie finally gonna get married]
[e dude! ur loyl invited u to a ball????]
[ahhhhh im so happy for youuuu]
“She’s not the love of my life” Enid hissed, turning absolutely red at the comment and looked around as if Wednesday was gonna pop out of some corner and kill her for saying something romantic. The girl doesn’t know about her  love and she plans to keep it that way. Thank the gay gods the goth doesn’t have any social media.
“Anyway as I was saying, there’s a ball in a few hours and want to see what you guys think of my top picks.”
The screen shook as Enid walked towards the guest room. The werewolf steadied the phone on the bed and the camera only showed an empty background while shuffling came from her trying on the first dress.
The top three dresses she chose were flattering. It’s not like she’s trying to make Wednesday see that she’s attractive, no.  Because she’s long accepted that Wednesday wouldn’t ever see her as more than a friend. She’s just dressing for herself, totally.
“Okay guys what do we think of outfit number 1”
[girl you look great i love it *chefs kiss]
[oh wow! You look so gorgeous that looks great on you]
[If that’s only choice number one I wonder how the others look cause that’s already hottt]
“Really? It’s not too much?” Enid asked, and nodded as more comments flooded, “okay, lemme know how number two looks.”
[Hmmm. You look gorgeous, but I dunno something seems off about it]
[What are you talking about??? This one looks cute!]
[marry me marry me marry me marry me]
“Right?! Like it's cute but not really. Okay last one. Maybe this is the dress.”
[ENID THATS IT THATS HOW YOU GET THE GIRL]
[omg enid so pretty]
[asgklasdhfwsdf mommy im gay]
[OOOH I KNOW WHY THE OTHERS LOOK KINDA OFF EVEN IF THEYRE GREAT. ITS CAUSE THEYRE NOT YOU. THIS IS YOU ENID IM SURE YOUR GF WOULD LOVE IT MORE]
“I don’t know about love it, but yeah. This really is more my style.” Enid brushed her hands over the smooth fabric and twirled, trying to look at herself in every possible angle. She bit her lip, it’s sexy but not too much. And the color totally agrees with her skin tone. Yeah. This is the one.
“Okay, I’m gonna get ready. I’ll try to show you guys the after-look and maybe even a pic of Wednesday. Happy Valentine's Day! I love you all thank you for the help!”

Star Wars Reading List
Figured that since Ao3 is down, this might be a good time for y'all to get into reading actual Star Wars books/comics. Thus, here is a list of excellent books that focus on Obi-Wan & Anakin or beloved prequel-era characters.
Note: With whatever credibility I've earned, I ask you to please consider ordering these books from somewhere other than Amazon. Not only is Jeff Bezos a plague upon planet earth, but his site is also wreaking havoc on the publishing industry. Amazon is a huge contributor to current bestsellers sucking and diverse, marginalized voices not getting heard. Local bookstores are best, but even Barnes & Noble is better. I am happy to assist you with an Amazon book boycott if you PM me.
Karen Miller
Reading actual books & comics is gross, you say? Fanfic is more palatable in style to your interests? Not a problem, my friends; do I have the author for you. Karen Miller writes some excellent Obi-Wan & Anakin centric books that feel just like reading fanfiction (if only minus smut XD). The way she writes the protagonists goes deep into the bonds they feel (and/or develop) with each other. If you're used to reading fanfiction, this won't feel much different.
Note to the wise: Don't worry about Karen Traviss—you don't need her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
#1: Clone Wars Gambit: Stealth
Even though Wild Space (below) is the first book in this storyline, I recommend starting with this one. The beginning of the book is Obi-Wan & Anakin & Ahsoka engaged in a multipronged battle. From a starfighter, Anakin engages his squad in an air assault while Obi-Wan fights on the ground with Ahsoka. After that, it has one of my favorite Obi-Wan tropes ever in which Anakin spends about four chapters assigning miscellaneous members of the GAR to escort Obi-Wan to the medbay for neglected injuries. (If you like my fic Every Shadow, then you will love this.) Afterward, the story veers toward a mission that Obi-Wan & Anakin embark on together, in which the two of them bicker lovingly whilst exhausting the ever-loving shit out of themselves to endure dire, hostile straits. The amount of sweat, fatigue, and desperation drenching their characters by the end of this novel will make you feel alive.
#2: Clone Wars Gambit: Siege
The direct sequel to Clone Wars Gambit: Stealth, which is no less fun of a read. Oh? You thought the nonstop sweat-drenched, desperation-fueled survival instinct and fatigue were over? You thought that? Cute. Being the direct sequel to Clone Wars Gambit: Stealth, this book starts as Obi-Wan jolts awake from an unexpected, impromptu nap and yells at Anakin for letting him fall asleep in the first place. (In response, Anakin is shrugging like wtf was I supposed to do, we're tired and tired ppl sleep.) In the midst of their argument, the stolen speeder which Anakin is piloting decides to demand an immediate crash-landing in the middle of nowhere. From there, Obi-Wan & Anakin are stranded on a planet under intense Separatist surveillance and are forced to find sanctuary in a local and suspicious village. But this book is titled "Siege" for a reason. Catastrophes are not over, and despite what you may think, they have not yet scraped the absolute bottom of their limits yet. They will though. They will. My favorite scene involves Anakin (running on sheer fumes and willpower alone) throws a tantrum about Obi-Wan healing civilians so much he's practically keeling over. You will like this book. I guarantee it.
#3 Clone Wars: Wild Space
Now that you understand Karen Miller is a fellow author of all your favorite Obi-Wan & Anakin fanfic tropes, you can read her fanficiest fanfic of all published Star Wars material. The amount of Obi-Wan whump in this novel is batshit, y'all. It starts out with a lot of satisfactory Obi-Wan & Anakin scenes, especially re Obi-Wan enduring physical injuries and Anakin being intensely upset and worried. Then, for the second half of the book, Obi-Wan embarks on an investigative mission with Bail Organa based on the Senator's mysterious intel. This leads the two of them to Zigoola, a Sith planet of utter despair and Obi-Wan's worst nightmares. This is the origin story of Obi-Wan & Bail's friendship, but mostly you'll like it because Obi-Wan is so fucked up by the end of it that he can't even stand. The whump cuts deep on a physical, emotional, and cosmic-Force-magic level. A true treat.
When Ao3 is back up, I recommend the incredibly written fanfic A Thousand Satellites by stark2ash as a follow-up to Wild Space.
Matthew Stover
Alright, you're with me on why reading published Star Wars content is good now? You're ready? Amazing. Let me introduce you to one of the most incredible authors of our time. Matthew Stover writes so expertly that his books feel like literary masterpieces, regardless of their inclusion in the Star Wars franchise. If you read nothing else on this list, please read something by him. You will not regret it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
#1 Revenge of the Sith novelization
If you always liked the prequels but felt they were kinda rushed or shallow or failed to adequately suspend your disbelief for certain plot points, then this is the book you should read. Every single aspect of the movie is portrayed with such care in terms of themes, characters, and attention to detail. There is incredible characterization for Obi-Wan—the hopeful but tragic hero of the clone wars; the brilliantly competent and yet endearingly humble Jedi Master. The emotions Stover puts this man through successfully makes us sob rivers, alongside the masterminded and horrifyingly abusive manipulation that Palpatine directs onto Anakin—the child prodigy who struggles so desperately to stay in the Light and ultimately fails. You know how people always watch a movie and come out saying how the book was better? Somehow, Stover managed to achieve this feat after the movie was already released! Again, if you read nothing else, please read this book. Otherwise, I can't talk to you, lol.
#2: Shatterpoint
Since you followed my advice and read the above book (you did read the above book... right?!), I am now assuming you realize Stover is a literary genius and a true master of his craft. Thus, may I present you with Shatterpoint, an equally inspired character study of Jedi Master Mace Windu. You like Mace Windu, right? Yeah, of course! We all do. But I bet the content featuring him has always been a little boring. I bet that makes you a bit nervous to give this book a try because you're worried it will be boring. Well, ho boy you are wrong, my friend. This book is a fascinating deep dive into not only the political landscape surrounding the clone wars but also the human element of what constant war can do to a society. At all times, the book is intense, chilling, and thrillingly page-turning. If you're a loser and don't like Mace Windu, you absolutely will by the end of this. I cannot convey how utterly this book strayed from my usual interests and still managed to zip me through to the very end.
Miscellaneous
Aha! You have read all of the above and are still looking for some more? Well well well, you fucking nerd, you are definitely someone I'd would like to engage in friendly conversation with. XD Now that I've proven my good taste, please add these additionally nerdy books your list.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
#1: Brotherhood by Mike Chen
Hey look! It's a canon book! Yeah! This book is canon! And it's good, too! If you always wish for more political/investigative drama in your Star Wars content, Mike Chen has you covered. Obi-Wan is a brilliant Jedi in terms of getting to the bottom of some forensic shenanigans, pulling all-nighters to write persuasive essay-length speeches to extremely important people, evading enemies who intend to do him dead without harming a single one of them, and most notably displaying a strong inclination (and talent!) for diplomacy even when it means doing none of the above. On the side, he maintains an adorable relationship with his newly knighted Padawan, who embarks on an interesting journey of his own. Anakin bonds with a Jedi initiate who is struggling with a intense Force empathy, both of whom decide to go "rescue" Obi-Wan. I love this book. It is one of my all-time Star Wars faves.
Also in this book, Anakin manages to have the most hilarious scifi equivalent of an "I'm going through a tunnel" phone call while talking to Mace Windu. 😂
#2 Master & Apprentice by Claudia Gray
This book is also canon, horray! If you're dissatisfied with many two-dimensional portrayals of Padawan!Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon Jinn, then this book will satisfy the relationship you never knew you craved. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan fumble to overcome their rocky dynamic well into their Master-Padawan relationship—causing Obi-Wan a massive amount of anxiety and Qui-Gon a massive amount of guilt. Their miscommunication, however, goes both ways! Both of them are beloved Jedi who are trying really hard to understand each other—and eventually do! Obi-Wan righteously abides by Jedi guidelines, but in the most obnoxious and bratty way possible. XD Meanwhile, Qui-Gon's interest in myth and precognition is actually more complicated and nuanced than it seems. This book characterizes these two characters, including their relationship with each other, not only in the way George Lucas originally intended but also in a super emotionally compelling way.
#3: Dark Disciple by Christie Golden
Quinlan seems to have become a bit of a fanfic favorite for some, but his character is actually a lot more complicated than you'd ever know! Read this book for the beautifully intricate story regarding the choices he has to make and the paths they take him down. He has a hell of a time and he struggles dearly between right and wrong because of it—but the layers of depth to his character, including his devotion to the Light side, his intelligent kindness, and his endearing façade of humor shine through the darkness he is subjected and temporarily falls to. Obi-Wan himself is a central character to this story; likewise, his fierce perspective on forgiveness, atonement, and redemption are essential cornerstones to understanding this novel and his character. Plus, there is some very cute Anakin to boot. If you made it through the other books, then this one is an absolute must-read.
#4: Rogue Planet by Greg Bear
Ever wonder where all the "Barriss Offee once was great" discourse comes from? Ever intrigued when fellow fans talk about the Blood Carver? Well, my friend, you're in luck! This book are both conversations' source. I'll admit, this book is the driest of all of my recommendations, but it is no less worth the read! The moments where Obi-Wan struggles to be a good mentor to Anakin, teenage mom style, are adorable, particularly in the early scenes where he must stop Padawan!Anakin from competing in a podrace-like competition. If you're literally out of things to read, this book will get you over the spell. And after you're done, you'll finally feel knowledgeable enough to start engaging this Barriss Offee discourse!
Comics
Damn it, you're still not with me on the book-reading thing? Books are too wordy for you or something? Sighs, to each their own, I guess. Here's some incredibly well written comic runs that achieve fantastic storylines but with super pretty pictures, too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
#1: Obi-Wan & Anakin (5-issue run in 2016)
The comic in which, despite Palpatine's disgustingly creepy attempts to the contrary, Obi-Wan is an incredible teacher and Anakin is an incredible student. Obi-Wan's style as a Jedi Master is shown to be lovingly wise and gentle. In fact, it is so uplifting that it repeatedly brought me to tears when I read it. Similarly, Anakin's struggles with the Jedi Order are defined with a satisfying level of depth. He is trying and sometimes he fails—but he learns. The storyline overall is gorgeous, both in art and in narrative value, and the ending itself is something truly beautiful. Furthermore, this artist paints Obi-Wan in a way that makes me reconsider my sexuality. You will stare for decades at his face.
#2: Darth Vader (25-issue run from 2017 to 2018)
What happens after ROTS you wonder? How does Darth Sidious begin to instruct his new apprentice? What measures do the surviving Jedi take to attempt to preserve their culture? Where do the Inquisitors come from? How does one "bleed" a Kyber crystal? All of these questions and more are answered in this 2017 comic run (not to be confused with other Darth Vader comic runs). Besides the really interesting worldbuilding immediately post-Order 66, I don't think I've read a comic run this absurdly well-written ever. Of particular note, the author & artist use a sort of magical realism in Darth Vader's Meditative Hellscape™ to convey intricately detailed emotions/metaphors/themes. You have to see it to believe it. For example, I feel the below two pages are so full of depth and meaning that they should be added to any kind of college art/film/fiction curriculum:
Tumblr media
#3: Slaves of the Republic (6-issue run from 2008 to 2009)
This comic definitely isn't of the same caliber as the former two, but it's still ideal reading. If you feel the show left some stuff out or should have gone differently or should have handled certain subject matters with greater respect, then this will bring you closure! This comic's issues fills in so many holes in its plots and thematic values left in the Zygerria/Kadavo episodes. It also characterizes its protagonists Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Ahsoka in a way that makes huge amounts of sense. Obi-Wan is kind and brave and self-sacrificial in a way he failed to be in the show. Anakin is intelligent, compassionate, and competent, especially regarding matters of slavery. And Ahsoka contains the fun characterization of her iteration in earlier seasons before Dave Filoni stripped it from her. The worldbuilding, too, in these comics is much more rich and interesting than their episodic counterparts.
Now that you're done reading comics, I would like to implore you to please please please go back to the top of this post and try again. I prefer fanfic to books a vast majority of the time, too, but I've tailored this list specifically for you. I promise you won't regret the effort.

silvia's drama watching queue for 2024: a somewhat random assortment of stuff that was rec'd and for some reason feels it might scratch an itch
in progress - started & I swear I'm gonna finish
* Empresses in the Palace - I'M DOING IT BABYYYYY. 9 episodes down. Yes, the emperor looks like your grandpa and so far has the personality of stale toast. But as long as I don't imagine him naked (no, grandpa, no! it's time for your nap!) then it has this vibe of those Masterpiece Theatre productions I watched as a preteen and I already am recognizing tons of famous tropes (some elements of Job of Imperial Concubine already 3x funnier). Also I appreciate a horror story with a high body count and we have 3 victims already 👌
* Derailment - Modern cdrama that I know is great. I'm 3 ep in, just gotta be in the right mood
* Legend of Fei - Wuxia; got distracted halfway through last year but love the 2 lead actors. Not their best work but still.
* Fireworks of my Heart - what if china did a modern Persuasion adaption but he's a fireman and she's a nurse, basically. kinda. idk man, it has those same vibes for me. I like both lead actors (yes I'm on the YY Can Act Sometimes, When He Feels Like It defense squad. fight me). I'm like 1/3 of the way thru, need to be in that melancholy romantic wallow mood. But mmm I do love second chance + pining.
* Secret Romantic Guesthouse - a wild kdrama appears! Historical drama about saving your inn from debtors by finding a missing royal & turning him over to be murdered. you know, just girlboss things. 💁 Some mystery, some romance. I like the FL. Not much slapstick humor or people screaming at each other so far, which will make me tap out. 4 episodes in and it's quite watchable. I'll probably finish.
not started
* The Left Ear because why not? teens being realistically messy 👌
* Go Ahead - so this may sound strange but I've been holding back on this one a long time, until my work hours were less insane & I can focus. Universally beloved, one of the top cdramas. I'll sink my teeth into this Modern in 2024.
* The Blessed Girl cause it sounds like my jam
* Fake It Till You Make It - modern romance that I've seen rave reviews for. Pretty confident I'll love it.
* Gone with the Rain cause dangermousie's posts seduced me. Costume drama.
* West out of Yeman/Parallel World - multi-verse modern with a lil sci fi? I love multiverse and time travel \o/
* Wonderland of Love - historical romance with generals and some court intrigue, a happy ending. On paper, my kind of stuff. But will I make it thru 40 ep depends on how much I vibe with the otp
Maybe
Choice Husband (12 eps romantic comedy, then turns into blood and manipulation? sounds intriguing)
Moonlight - modern workplace drama, editor/author. Reviews are mixed but I have affection for how cdrama scriptwriters will obsessively research a topic in the style of an AO3 fic writer. I expect to learn more than I ever wanted to know about the toils of being an editor.
Marry My Husband - I don't watch many kdramas but I turn up for tropey reborn every time. If they deliver on the promise of a ridiculous but entertaining romance revenge then I'm there.

(thanks to @mostlymaudlin for the template!) pls forgive my scrawl!!
i read soooo many good fics this year so to narrow it down i have limited myself to a) fics that were written in 2023 (i think) and b) F1 fics. i could’ve done a whole directory for each category tbh, and i’m sure i’ve forgotten something really obvious, but these were the ones that came to mind first. links and my commentary under the cut!
1. fic that made me laugh: adagio by debrief (lando/oscar, ballet AU. debrief is sooo good at these gorgeous, funny landoscar AUs, and the lando in this fic is so effervescent, camp and ridiculous. so many great laugh out loud bits.)
2. fic that made me cry: ode to a conversation stuck in your throat by prettyrotten @prettydangrotten (alex/george, miscommunication at its finest. so much incredible, layered emotion in this one, a real masterclass in how to use sex scenes to portray emotions instead of dialogue too.)
3. fic that gave me a story hangover: the fire is slowly dying by peachbellinis @strawberry-daiquiris (mark/oscar, oughhhh. never heard the term story hangover before today but that’s exactly what this fic gave me. eyewateringly sexy, leans into the age gap and the generally rancid vibes, evil temptress oscar rights. i was fucking useless for the rest of the day after reading it because it’s so vividly drawn and claustrophobic in the best possible way. ate my brain.)
4. fic i want to discuss book club style: grand theft august by chelem @chelemlem (lando/oscar, gorgeous canon compliant slowburn. the fic that gave me the landoscar brain rot for real. i basically only started writing ‘monday’ because i adored this so much; it’s essentially a tribute act. so many glorious little details that i would love to pick apart at a forensic level.)
5. fic that got me a lil flustered: side by side in orbit by glasscushion @glasscushion (lando/oscar/max f, spiky weird vibes cuckolding threesome. also a strong contender for category 1 because the max dialogue is deadly precise and hilarious, but lando all fucked out and high off being watched?? does me in every time i even think about it. insane.)
6. fic by one of my fave authors: practice makes perfect by charlotte_stant @boxboxlewis (alex/george, first time/practising sex. as always, insanely good, sharp dialogue; so elegant at sentence level, no wasted words. funny, sad, sexy. whenever i read her fics i’m taking notes because there’s always something to learn.)
7. fic i reread more than once: break my rules by venerat (lando/oscar, mile high club with crafty bastard lando and out of his depth but loving it oscar. i’ve read most of venerat’s fics multiple times this year tbh, but this was another formative landoscar fic for me so i’ve singled it out here.)
8. fic i sent to everyone i know: trade offer by chelem @chelemlem (girl!lando/oscar rule 63, they can’t fuck for semi-spurious reasons. SWELTERINGLY hot. entire lines from this fic live rent free in my head. i’ve said this before but this is one of my top, if not my favourite ever, rule 63 fic.)
9. fic that made me fall in love with an author: recreate the sun by glasscushion @glasscushion (lando/oscar with background mark/oscar, stoned sex. oughhh. such a sleazy, sexy fic. i kind of came to landoscar via mark/oscar fics and this one was a bit of a gateway drug (sorry). grotty spiritual teenager lando my beloved, horny sloth stoner oscar my beloved, viscerally hot descriptions of stoned sex my beloved. makes me want to take an edible to get the full effect.)
so so many i didn’t have room to mention argh. i bookmarked 10 pages this year!!

“And the honest one?”
“You sink your teeth in. Deep. And you hold on for dear life, because good things rarely last.”
11) Windsor Peaks | Not Rated | 23801 words
Note: The main pairing is Louis/Harry Styles/OMC.
Louis Tomlinson lost his parents when he was 8 years old. He was moved to an orphanage in London where he stayed until he was old enough to leave. Louis moved back to his home town of Windsor Peaks, to study and make a life for himself where his parents had lived and wanted to raise him.
Louis life was going well, he was happy, until two detectives from London turn up. Harry Styles and Scott Wolf are investigating a string of murders and a car accident that lead them to straight to Louis and his past.
Is Louis a suspect or is there something more sinister going on.
12) The Luna of Which Pack? | Mature | 72696 words
“This is cute, Lou. Really loving this faux innocent look going on. But if you ever want to get back to your beloved Simon, you better start talking. I may be kind to my family, but you, darling, are not family.”
Internally, Harry began patting himself on the back. He praised himself for not only besting the cunning, snarky omega, but also maximizing on this potentially negative opportunity that arose.
Then, Louis chirped up with a slick grin. “Perfect. I’ll shut up. Can I sleep in your bed again? It’s really comfy. Reeks of lonely ruts, though. You should really change your sheets more often, you know.”
13) Nothing Quite Hits Like You | Explicit | 81098 words
For many centuries, Inferis Lamia had been a college strictly for higher magic alphas, where most rulers of the Underworld had reached their Divine Enlightenment to become the alphas they were now. However, that year, for the first time since it was founded many centuries ago, the academy would welcome omegas from the Underworld, giving them the same opportunities alphas had, the same education.
14) Drops of Jupiter | Mature | 121826 words
In a small, sleepy town ruled by prejudice, Louis Tomlinson runs his grandmothers shop for the occult. He finds comfort in his tarot cards, his friends, and a dog that he doesn't have room for. He thought the worst he'd have to deal with would be bigotry, until a new sheriff arrives with a headstrong little girl that's impossible not to fall in love with.
But what happens when a string of break-ins leads to a brutal attack, and the towns' darling is murdered right under their Sunday hats? A murder that just so happens to bear the same modus operandi as similar homicides in neighbouring states. Has the killer been circling Virginia, or is he a local of Lavender Hills?
And what will Louis do when the charming Sheriff Styles starts to suspect him of such a heinous crime?
15) No Hello Just Goodbye | Mature | 142502 words
Louis had 9 months to try and convince himself out of it, but he knew from the very moment he saw the dreaded 2 lines that he couldn't raise the baby. Not when the conception took place against his own will.
Adoption was the only answer. He had no problems handing over his child nor did he endure any sort of regret. Or did he? 4 years after giving birth Louis sets out to search for his baby but what he finds instead is something he totally didn't expect...... Love.

20 questions for fic writers
thanks @annerbhp for the tag! i really enjoyed reading her answers too!
1. How many works do you have on ao3?
215
2. What’s your total ao3 word count?
646,705 (average of 3k per fic, which sounds about right)
3. What fandoms do you write for?
stargate atlantis most often, followed by sg-1, various star treks, and the x-files (with other miscellaneous fandoms on demand for exchanges and gifts).
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
No Sooner Met (voyager, janeway/chakotay)
Career Day (sg-1, mini!otp)
Next Chapter (the good place, chidi/eleanor)
First Date (voyager, janeway/chakotay) editor's note: man my title game was weak in my voyager era
Occupational Hazards (the good place, chidi/eleanor)
it's so funny to spend my online time in small or inactive fandoms and look at statistics because i'm like yeah... i'm kind of a big deal... people know me... i have many leather-bound volumes... and not a single one of my fics crack 300 kudos (& very few over 100). the person i reblogged from topped out over 9,000! what's it like to write long fics for popular fandoms? is it cool?
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
i do now! and it's awesome! for a long time i was intimidated by praise and had a hard time responding, but my brain works now and i really enjoy exchanging comments that turn into long threads of headcanon back-and-forth and sometimes new friends.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
oh god PLEASE let me unburden my soul about Twilight (sga, john/elizabeth). it's so uncharacteristically hopeless for me -- far future fic, complicated family dynamics, elizabeth has dementia and john is estranged from their son... really no one is having a good time. i think it's interesting and a cool departure from my usual writing style, but it's also a big sad mess.
i still feel sooooo guilty about these two thousand words of misery that i REGULARLY think about writing a sequel where john and his son fix it with time travel and mend fences. like i lie awake at night worrying about these characters because one time in 2007 i didn't give them a happy ending and suggested john might not break the bad father generational cycle. normal fic writer behavior.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Weaving Loose Ends (sg-1, sam/jack)! i love happy and hopeful endings but i think of all of them, this one is the most resolved and least complicated.
8. Do you get hate on fic?
nope. oh!!!! there was the one time when i caused Big Drama in a corner of the Dancing With The Stars fandom by turning people's headcanons into rpf, which everyone liked until one included porn. people got so heated with each other over this one smut fic (doxing! splinter factions! a fandom schism!) but somehow no one was ever actually mean to me. i didn't even get blocked or banned for my rpf transgressions, i was just standing there at the eye of the storm. so... i guess the answer is still no??
9. Do you write smut?
yes! i should probably write more, though. it has been all slow and gauzy the past few years, somebody should really get railed pretty soon.
10. Do you write crossovers?
nope.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
i don't think so. happily toiling in obscurity.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
back in the x-files days i think someone translated some of my doggett/reyes fics for a spanish archive, so those might still be out there.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
no i haven't!! i am really not doing well collecting my fic writer girl scout badges here!!
14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?
john sheppard/elizabeth weir my beloved.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but probably won’t?
i have 10k of an sg-1 episode-by-episode soulmate fic that started really strong and i would love to share someday, but i lack staying power so it will surely just go to seed in my dropbox forever!!
16. What are your writing strengths?
hopefully character complexity and dialogue. dialogue is interesting in fanfic, because the dialogue on many TV shows is really different than how real humans speak (it's scripted to be clearer, more concise and direct, uninterrupted, etc), so it's a fun challenge to balance that and get something that sounds both in-character and realistic.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
long fics!
the big related weakness is that i find it incredibly difficult to keep writing on a fic after i show it to anyone (as a sneak peek, or because i want feedback / encouragement / brainstorming help). i lose steam on my own, but posting or inviting other people into the process is like pouring sugar in the gas tank. why is that!! how do i fix this!!!
and i don't know if this is a "writing weakness" or an "egregious personal character flaw" but i sure did finish an exchange fic this year literally forty seconds before reveals, so that's... pretty bad.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
SO SCARY aughhhh my fear of Being Wrong really nukes me here. it doesn't even have to be a real language. it's like the ghost of JRR Tolkein himself is standing over my shoulder telling me that if i don't backwards engineer an entire proto-latinate space language instead of just chucking words into google translate and calling it Ancient i'm committing unpardonable sins.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
star trek! first internet-published fics were x-files, but first limited-print-edition fics were xeroxed hand-bound voyager stories my sister and i would give as "gifts" to family friends (and then stand there staring at them while they read the first few pages and told us how clever and creative we were and promised to "read the rest later").
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
new answer! i have always answered this before with ain't no sunshine (sga, john/elizabeth) or career day (sg-1, mini!otp), but i think i really stuck the landing this year on pieces (sga, john/elizabeth). which, incidentally, is the one i finished forty seconds before reveals so i'm definitely not going to learn anything from that narrow escape.
tagging @ussjellyfish if you haven't already done this one, @coraclavia, @havocthecat, @lonesomehighways, and anyone else who made it through this long post and would like to do it!

‘If you have questions the asks are open’ you know what I’m about to ask about o7, beautiful woman and her man who has never combed his hair. Or tbh any of your other wips I like hearing people talk about their wips :3c
(I was half tempted to just dm you but you said asks so ask it is >:))
erika, you've given me the amazing opportunity to rant about my wips/fics so i am going to utilize it. i'll tell you about the beautiful woman and her man who has never combed his hair first, and everything else below the cut (for context, here is that wip summary poll). :DDDDDD
beautiful woman and her man who has never combed his hair this is my wag au for the fest!!!! i have talked to many a friend (including you) about this wip, and everyone seems to be very excited which i am happy about :)) basically, it's loscar with trans girl logan as the wag. they're very sweet and in love and it is simultaneously annoying and adorable to all of their friends. the main cast also includes max fewtrell (my beloved) as oscar's teammate at mclaren, lando norris as logan's bestie and max's wag, fred vesti as the most amazing supportive friend anyone could ask for, and a few other things that i am still working out (lawnsonoda is a very real thing that may or may not be included in this fic). i plan for it to be a semi linear narrative, by having the 2023 f1 season as the main thing but with flashbacks, social media, and other things sprinkled throughout. you have seen some of my outrageous planning and this will be a behemoth when i am done. i'm so excited!!!!!
gatekeep, gaslight, girlboss, george russell <3 imagine with me: george russell was born georgiana russell. so she's like if irl george was 50 times more neurotic and worried about what people thought of her. it will also be secret relationship gax (gasp... tuser gaxpodium writing gax... crazy...) and overprotective girl dad toto.
can the ghost of enzo ferrari fix my relationship? catholicism and being italian go hand in hand, so we're translating that religious fervor into f1. teams have a patron god (usually someone important to that brand or team) and surprise surprise, enzo ferrari is the patron god of the scuderia ferrari f1 team. your fealty and worship to your patron god will greatly impact your race results. this is angst central, with deeply heavy lore, so it will take me a while. and it focuses mainly on sewis and charlos (and how they deal with the whole "ferrari chewed me up and spit me out and you're still worshiping him" thing)
first a fan, then a teammate, then things got really mushy anyone else deeply impacted by leaf's dando video edit to "love of my life" by harry styles? no, only me? but i'm serious, this is entirely based on my visceral and life-changing reaction to that video. it changed me as a person...
uptight british bitch versus kind-of-rude dutch dickhead actually the first bit of rpf i ever wrote. it started as an assignment for my fiction 1 class (crazy...) and will probably be pretty short when i actually post it (no more than 10k words probably). it's a two part canon compliant gax fic, one part from george's perspective and one from max's. there's not much to say about this one since there's very little planning for it lol
what if three guys were in love but they were all stupid about it? it's geochalex. i feel like this should be obvious for me, but the three guys who are stupid and in love? geochalex. my notes rn for this fic mainly consist of the words "geochalex miscommunication!!!!!!!" so like yeah, that's the stupid right there
there are a few other wips/ideas that i forgot about when making the poll including a chalex apocalypse au that is inspired by the last of us (and also written for my fiction 1 class)

20 asks for fic writers
ty for the tag @plecotusauritus and @wanderingdonut <333
1. How many works do you have on ao3?
16
2. what's your total ao3 word count?
300,242 (damn)
3. What fandoms do you write for?
hp, have considered branching into black sails and good omens
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Hot Cocoa Incident of '77
shorn and scarred and yours
A Dog in Stag's Clothing
Sarcastic Truths and Lies By Omission
exes, horcruxes, and other reasons to panic
conclusion: bitches love hogwarts fluff, slytherin sirius, and divorce!!
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes! I love comments!
6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending
Uhhh I guess the corndog fic?? all my wolfstar fics currently end happily, though Of Monsters and Cowards has more of an open ending
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
They're all happy honestly, but The Hut of the Mistold is probably the most neatly wrapped up, all the warm and fuzzies, happily ever after ending.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Nothing directly mean, but I'll get comments that make me go, "why did you feel the need to say that?" Like ranting a little too enthusiastically about the main character's choices or commenting on how they wanted more of xyz in a chapter (especially when the fic isn't even finished!) Oh and I got one the other day from a guest on a reply I made to someone else that was clearly trying to start an argument about something that had nothing to do with the fic??? I don't respond to those comments.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Typically I write a little smooching that fades into a vague description, but I wrote six different versions of smut for don't cover our tracks
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I write a lot of AU's based in other worlds, but not crossovers. (Unless @impishtubist and I make the ineffable wolfstar crossover happen!)
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of. And hot take—I genuinely think a lot of cases of "fic stealing" are just coincidence. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but I do believe we're all collectively tossing around one brain cell, and we're bound to have similar ideas.
I once read a fic that shared a lot of themes/ideas/details with one of my fics, and upon discovering this, I plotted to trick the writer into becoming my deeply beloved mutual.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I've had people ask if they could translate my fics before a few times, but I don't think anything has come of it?
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Not currently... (refer to 10)
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
Wolfstar
15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
... probably the ATLA AU :/
The idea possessed me back in January of last year, and I plotted out the entire thing, but I've had no motivation to actually write it. I think the problem is that it's too cinematic, and I can't translate it to prose.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Probably world-building, in the way that I can look at one world and say "how would this translate to another?" "what little details and references can I pull from and play with?" "how do I adjust my writing style to make this feel like the genre I'm replicating?"
Also unusual metaphors, zingy little commentary, and comedic timing in dialogue.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I really struggle with prose. Which sounds silly, but like, I'm not writing prose—I'm translating the screenplay in my brain to prose, which is weird. And I think it can make my writing really jarring because it's lacking that slow, immersive reflection that is just so delicious when done well.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
Dude I put a few Welsh words in hotm and panicked that even those would be wrong. If it was ever important for the story, I'd find someone who spoke the language to help me.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
hp
20. Favorite fic you've written?
Please Don't See Me
