Hoping people read the clip studio subscription update notes because in the twitter thread about them im seeing tons of people really jumping the shark from 0-100. So here is the cliff notes of it.

-Clip studio is putting out a new version called 2.0 (idk what the features are to warrant it being 2.0 it doesn't seem like they've announced that yet)

-2.0 has its own "update pass" which you can pay a yearly or monthly subscription fee to update your 1.0 to this new version. This is what people are angry about.

-2.0 also comes with the perpetual one time purchase just like 1.0 has. Assuming it lines up with how 1.0 is sold it will come on sale often and cost you around $35 (but again i don't know it hasnt been confirmed)

-It looks like when they move into 2.1 onwards you might either need to get the subscription or do a one time payment (it isnt worded super clearly) but you will have access to the 2.0 features and future security/bug fixes. This is also what people are angry about

-You can continue to use 1.0 without any extra money put into clip studio and it will get future safety and bug fix updates but will not get big feature updates.

-a 3.0 clip studio was also vaguely announced and seems to follow the same system of either having a subscription update or a perpetual one time payment (but it isnt clear).

-as always if this isnt something you like, can afford or want to even pay for just pirate the software.

I think there is a good bit to side eye about the update and program subscription models are just god awful in general so i totally understand people being upset. But you can get 2.0 as a one time purchase and im hoping if they're doing this the reason is that its a big actually valuable update but we'll have to wait and see. But i think the biggest take away is if you own clip studio already you DO NOT need to swap to subscription to keep using your program you paid for it and own it (as much as you can with digital software) and they will be doing support updates to keep it functioning.

Watching Vault Hunters game development is just fascinating. As someone who doesn't play, but does watch a lot, I usually side with Iskall on the balancing changes. It can be frustrating to see how unwillingness to accept change can cloud the discussions, but overall I've really appreciated the way he is able to present the core of the argument and what it really means for the game. Something about the way he breaks down the points he and other people are making is really refreshing. Also how the chat attempts a productive discussion (for the most part)

No evidence of inflated mortality reporting from the Gaza Ministry of Health

Mortality reporting is a crucial indicator of the severity of a conflict setting, but it can also be inflated or under-reported for political purposes. Amidst the ongoing conflict in Gaza, some political parties have indicated scepticism about the reporting of fatalities by the Gaza Ministry of Health (MoH).

The Gaza MoH has historically reported accurate mortality data, with discrepancies between MoH reporting and independent United Nations analyses ranging from 1·5% to 3·8% in previous conflicts. A comparison between the Gaza MoH and Israeli Foreign Ministry mortality figures for the 2014 war yielded an 8·0% discrepancy.2 Public scepticism of the current reports by the Gaza MoH might undermine the efforts to reduce civilian harm and provide life-saving assistance. Using publicly available information, we compared the Gaza MoH's mortality reports with a separate source of mortality reporting and found no evidence of inflated rates. We conducted a temporal analysis of cumulative-reported mortality within Gaza for deaths of Gazans as reported by the MoH and reported staff member deaths from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), from Oct 7 to Nov 10, 2023. These two data sources used independent methods of mortality verification, enabling assessment of reporting consistency.

We observed similar daily trends, indicating temporal consistency in response to bombing events until a spike of UNRWA staff deaths occurred on Oct 26, 2023, when 14 UNRWA staff members were killed, of whom 13 died in their homes due to bombings. Subsequent attacks raised the UNRWA death rate while MoH hospital services diminished until MoH communications and mortality reporting collapsed on Nov 10, 2023. During this period, mortality might have been under-reported by the Gaza MoH due to decreased capacity. Cumulative reported deaths were 101 UNRWA staff members and 11,078 Gazans over 35 days. By comparison, an average of 4884 registered deaths occurred per year in 2015–19 in Gaza.

Data are calculated by separate death reports from the Gaza Ministry of Health (MoH; red line) and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA; blue line).

If MoH mortality figures were substantially inflated, the MoH mortality rates would be expected to be higher than the UNRWA mortality rates. Instead, the MoH mortality rates are lower than the rates reported for UNRWA staff (5.3 deaths per 1000 vs 7.8 deaths per 1000, as of Nov 10, 2023). Hypothetically, if MoH mortality data were inflated from, for example, an underlying value of 2–4 deaths per 1000, it would imply that UNRWA staff mortality risk is 2.0–3.9 times higher than that of the public. This scenario is unlikely as many UNRWA staff deaths occurred at home or in areas with high civilian populations, such as in schools or shelters.

Mortality reporting is difficult to conduct in ongoing conflicts. Initial news reports might be imprecise, and subsequent verified reports might undercount deaths that are not recorded by hospitals or morgues, such as persons buried under rubble. However, difficulties obtaining accurate mortality figures should not be interpreted as intentionally misreported data. Although valid mortality counts are important, the situation in Gaza is severe, with high levels of civilian harm and extremely restricted access to aid. Efforts to dispute mortality reporting should not distract from the humanitarian imperative to save civilian lives by ensuring appropriate medical supplies, food, water, and fuel are provided immediately.

So I calculated the exact screen time for all the love square ships in season 3...

I'm back again. Season 3 is finally complete. If you'd like to see my previous post, click here. Before we get into this, for newcomers and old faces (since there are new rules)...

Some Ground Rules

What I did and didn't count as screen time for the love square ships:

Both characters of the ship must be present in the scene for it to count as screen time for that ship and by that I mean the real versions of them. So Felix pretending to Adrien doesn't count.

At least one of the characters must be interacting with the other or both of them need to be doing something together for it to count because we can't have them acting like background characters and call that screen time.

If one of the characters believes that they are interacting with the alter ego of the character, it will count as screen time for that ship. Meaning Aspik with Ladybug will be counted as Ladrien because Ladybug knows that this is Adrien.

In case of group interactions, the screen time will only count if the interaction is specifically between the two characters or if one of the character's reaction to the other is given focus.

In case of reveal scenarios, screen time will be counted as whatever alter ego they are in. I debated with myself whether to count Box Noir and Ladybug as Ladynoir or Ladrien but I ultimately decided on Ladrien as Adrien isn't using the actual Cat Miraculous.

Now on to the data.

Screen Time Distribution

It seems that with every season, Ladynoir decreases in screen time as in season 1, it was 76 %, in season 2, it was 71.5 % and now in season 3, it's 68.7 %. Will this trend continue in future seasons? I guess will just have to see. But as usual it still has the most screen time. Also as usual, Adrienette follows behind, having improved in screen time from 19.7 % to 21.2 %. Similar to last season Ladrien comes in 3rd, having the same 6 % of screen time it did last season but being above Maricat by much less, it's screen time having been increased from 2.8 % to 4.2 %.

In terms of the overall distribution up until now, Adrienette has increased by 0.4 %, Ladynoir has decreased by 1.3 %, Maricat increased by 0.3 % and Ladrien increased by 0.5 %. So now we have Ladynoir still on top with 72 % of the screen time which is 5 hr 16 min 55 sec, Adrienette 19.8 % of the screen time with h is 1 hr 26 min 38 sec, Ladrien with 4.7 % of the screen time which is 20 min 35 sec, and Maricat 3.2 % of the screen time which is 14 min 10 sec.

Screen Time Trend

Similar to last season, Ladynoir took some hits, from 6 episodes, two of them being right next to each other, that is, "Oblivio" and "Desparada". Also similar to last season we had a string of Ladynoir exclusive episodes from "Gamer 2.0" to "Timetagger" which helped to prop up Ladynoir in the screen time distribution department. It's average screen time per episode is much less than the previous 2 seasons, with it being 3 min 34 sec.

Adrienette made love square screen time history in "Oblivio" by having more screen time than any ship has ever had in an episode with 9 min 3 sec of it. It one-upped Ladynoir in other episodes as well such as "Chameleon" and "The Puppeteer 2", but not by as much as it did in "Oblivio". It had an average screen time of 1 min 6 sec.

The designated Maricat episode of the season finally dethroned Ladynoir for the episode, with it having 3 min 57 sec of screen time in "Weredad", the most screen time it's ever gotten. It's average screen time per episode has slightly increased from the last 2 seasons, with it now being 13 sec.

Ladrien had also gotten more screen time than it's ever gotten before, having 5 min 35 sec of screen time in "Desparada" which also made it the ship with the most screen time in that episode. It's average screen time per episode is 19 sec.

We also had the first episode to ever include screen time for all the love square ships and what better episode to hold that title than "Cat Blanc".

Conclusion

Ep 7 - Of course this is how Kim falls in love

Time: 16:27 -17:27 – Macau Spotting!

Macau’s Outfit: he is literally wearing the same school uniform as Chay. This could have opened so many plotlines, especially if the show wanted to place Chay in a love triangle mirroring Porsche’s.

Macau looks so bored at the table until Vegas shows up, and Vegas looks so excited to see him! I know this whole scene is an act put on by the minor family to lure Porsche away, but that’s the one time we see Vegas’ true feelings. He’s genuinely so happy to see his little brother. Macau, in turn, is so happy to see him because no one else was acknowledging him. Though the second Porsche sits next to him and he sees the act Vegas is putting on, he's over it.

I do wonder if Porsche clocked Macau’s uniform and wondered if this was a threat against his brother. Probably not, love Porsche, but Porchay definitely took most of the puzzle-solving abilities (I’m not calling it smarts because it's not. It’s the ability to connect dots, and Porsche is canonically incapable of doing that)

Time: 17:51 – 19:12 – Theerapanyakul Courting Habits

A tiny microscope like one from a child’s play science set. Was this Porchay’s as a kid or Porsche’s? Those sets aren’t exactly cheap, and I don’t think Porsche could have afforded one when they were kids. Which means it could be something their parents bought for Porsche. Interesting.

This is the first episode to show both Macau and Chay

Do you all think it’s a genetic trait for Theerapanyakul boys to show up unannounced at the Kittisawat house to bamboozle the person they’re obsessively in love with? Kinn did it, Kim did it, and Korn (& Gun) did it

Chay’s outfit: a pale blue/purple (Depending on the light I couldn’t really tell) shirt with the word Vendredi on it and cream-colored shorts. Vendredi is French for Friday, and I honestly don’t think it has anything to do with the scene outside of the color looking cute. His hair is also extra fluffy in this scene.

The absolute panic Porchay goes through when he sees how messy the house is, I felt that

Kim just going Oh, but I’m already here. Why don’t you let me help with that problem? With his little bitchy lean (I love him) as he watches Chay THROUGH THE OPEN WINDOW

Chay’s little wave! Baby boy he just saw you panic cleaning and lying about it! You can’t dissolve that embarrassment by being cute!

Kim’s outfit: a muddy olive green shirt with leather pants and the usual silver accessories. This is the first time we see his safety pin necklace though I’m pretty sure.

Time: 22:01 – 22:52 – Macau Spotting 2.0

Macau gets to be slightly evil and manipulative without judgment, as a treat

The way Porsche should have one hundred percent said oh my brother goes to your school; it would be so in character for him to just blurt that out here. He still finds Vegas marginally trustworthy, and it’s the kind of segue that Porsche would think of.

Time: 23:29 - 31:31 - Chay please clean your house

You can see the freakout Chay is having in his eyes. Also, the way he is clutching his dirty laundry because he was so panicked he forgot to put it down before scampering to let Kim in.

The matter-of-fact way Chay talks about his parents’ death. He’s not broken by it the same way Porsche is because he doesn’t remember them. And I’m not saying that’s bad! It's just a detail that strikes me. Chay grieves the idea of parents while Porsche grieves the real people. Chay’s also gotten through it in a way I doubt Porsche ever could.

Kim actually has a flicker of emotion on his face just before he says sorry. He knows what it's like to lose a parent (because his mom is def dead, Korn wouldn’t allow a divorce)

This whole ep is full of manipulative gift-giving. Vegas with the bike and Kim with the guitar. Kim impatiently cuts off Chay’s refusal so he can go snoop. At least allow Chay to be grateful before you go searching Kim!

Okay the more I look at this shirt the more purple it seems to me, am I the only one?

Chay’s little thank you and the jump! The panic he goes through when he remembers his Wik shrine!

The interest growing in Kim’s eyes as Chay frantically guards his bedroom. Internally happy screaming because he’s gonna find a clue! (Sike! You catch feelings instead)

How the hell have Porsche and Chay afforded their big house? No joke, that place is huge for two orphans

Kim, getting food after a tutoring session can be considered a date. Please be aware of that when you are thinking of ways to get the kid with an obvious crush on you out of the house. I adore the cute manipulative scrunched up face he makes though

The music in this scene kills me because it's so dramatic and meant to invoke horror at seeing this insane stalker side of Chay, but then the music shifts to WDYS and the camera turns to Kim and he’s literally bashfully smiling! He’s practically kicking his feet going he likes me!

Kim saying thank you in his suddenly deep ass voice, the seduction of Chay has begun I see

“I’ll let you try writing a love song.” – Yeah so he can serenade you

“Don’t tell me you’ve never been in love?” “Do you like anyone?” – Chay 100% sees Kim’s intentions with that one and runs with it. Kim, you opened a door, and now Chay is in your house, he's redecorating

I could write a billion words about the facial expressions in this scene but Tumblr has character limits. Kim is just so soft staring at Chay now while Chay has this knowing look on his face

Overall Chay Rating (Chrating): A+

This episode was so good on the Chay content even though we only got one Chay outfit. Chay’s genuinely a really happy kid (which often gets mistaken for naivety), and it's really nice seeing him so happy. Kim falling for him was inevitable because they are Freak for Freak, and it's so in character for Kim to actually develop feelings after seeing the stalker board. We even got to see Macau twice in this episode, so not only was this a great Chay ep but also a great little bro ep

phil being wilbur’s dad was fun for awhile and then it became his entire character in the fandom and i am not letting wilbur soot drag me back into that hell

Yeah now that I have slept and regained some perpective, I want to say that like, I have read and enjoyed family dynamic/sandduo work. One of the things on my rec list last month was a longfic going into the parental wilbur & phil relationship. Done well, it's super rich. And a lot of people I like and respect have done family dynamic and I am not beefing with their writing at all— I have written family dynamic! Cause it's canon!

It's just that as someone who is almost Phil's age in real life, seeing repeated instances of him being totally one-note dad and never acknowledging that he has his own personality or trauma or likes or whatever makes me weep over my special guy. Like 35 is not THAT old but he gets peeled down to nothingness, in fandom spaces, and like— he's my GUY. I want more phil-centric and it's SO hard to find stuff that respects him as a full character. Like literally my options are hardcore lore, phil whump, or emduo fluff, mostly. The rest is dad-coding only. And people who can do dad-coding and also respect Phil as a character are exclusively found on my sub list, I think.

And Wil is a very big creator, and the fanon tends to follow him, and we're already very used to the dadza typecasting—

(Shoutout to this person in my notes who was telling me it was gonna be fine while simultaniously doing the thing that I was wailing about and reducing Phil down to to dad status. I weep.)

So just like, realisitically, I'm gonna be fine if Phil embraces the Wil's dad status and we do Dadza 2.0. I'll cope. I just think it would be *funnier* if Wil tries to call Phil dad and Phil goes "do I know you". If Wil had to face him as a peer. I'm getting used to QSMP, bring on the flirting, I will happily write screeds about how Phil is too good for him and Wil is just using him for his food chest. Let me have DIFFERENT drama to react to. I just think that would be funny.

What are your thoughts on all the contradictions from Elriels?

1. A Gwynriel book would be boring and nothing but Silver Flames 2.0 because we've already had the training/warrior falling in love story, but an Elriel book will be about him training her.

1 ½. Gwynriel is a creepy student/teacher dynamic but Azriel will teach Elain to be a spy.

2. The bonus chapter sets up a forbidden Elriel romance, but it also doesn't count because not everyone has read it.

3. Elain loves and accepts Azriel for who he is even though it's confirmed that she knows nothing about him torturing people.

4. According to several Elriels, Elucien and Gwynriel shippers are the minority in the fandom and Elriels are the majority but they also say that if Elucien and Gwynriel become canon, it will only be because sjm folded to pressure from fans. Why would an author bow to the whims of only a small portion of their fanbase?

I think an Archeron becoming a warrior while being mated to a Bat Boy is way more Feysand 2.0 than Gwynriel would be. First off, they all look very similar. Three golden brown haired females who are related with three dark haired winged fae who are "related" is giving off similar fanart. Second Gwyn is already on the path to becoming a warrior. Her story with Az would not involve her becoming a warrior at the same time they're falling in love, she's already begun the process of becoming a warrior without him (and her initial training was given by Cassian). Elain returning TT and not looking back but suddenly training from scratch with Az to become a warrior / spy in the next book while falling in love is Feysand 2.0. Besides, Az already has prior commitments to training the Valkyrie. Whether some like it or not, Gwyn will be a regular presence in his book and it would be a little odd to have her saying things like, "See you tomorrow Shadowsinger" while Elain stands there......doing what, I'm not sure. Because she is not going to be a Valkyrie, that I can almost guarantee. And the teacher / student dynamic is a pretty consistent thing in SJMs books, Rowan / Aelin. Feyre / Rhysand. Nesta / Cassian. I can't believe that's even an argument. You are right! Az confirms Elain has no idea the things he's done and Elain has never been on page for any of the moments that reveal his true darkness and rage. She wasn't there when he tortured the soldiers (Feyre was and even she was bothered). Elain wasn't there when Az said "good riddance" if Graysen ended up dead. Elain wasn't there when he couldn't admit to Rhys that he was over Mor. Elain wasn't there when he demanded that the Cauldron must be wrong even though we've got no confirmation that Elain wants Az as a mate. Elain wasn't there when Az said she shouldn't be exposed to the Darkness of the Trove but was cool if Nesta was. Honestly, I think Elain would be extremely turned off if she'd witnessed even half of those things. From the many polls I've seen, E/riels don't even make up 35% of the fandom so I'm unsure why they think Gwynriels / Eluciens combined are the minority. Now, the fandom is only a small percentage of all those who actually read this series so we don't know what the actual numbers are but based on how E/riels don't seem to make up half of the most dedicated fans of her work, I'm not sure where they're getting off claiming they are the majority. As far as fan service, I don't think you can claim an Elucien endgame is SJM catering to fans when she was the one who decided to mate them in the first place. When she is the one who had Lucien think of Elain as the most beautiful female he'd ever seen. When she is the one who spoke of them on vacation together. When she is the one who changed Lucien's father to Helion and had Elain say she needs Sunshine. When she is the one who had Lucien claim he was a mated male and has forgone all other female companionship, remaining loyal to Elain and only Elain for two years.
