Hong Sungyeon. From here to eternity.

Erarta Museum presents three-dimensional works of Korean artist Hong Sungyeon, taking the viewer to the hidden core of the universe.

Study of the nature of man and his place in the macrocosm.
A lenticular printing technique that creates the illusion of depth.
The complex relationship of color and volume, light and darkness.

Korean artist Hong Sungyeon began his career as a photographer, but his interest in the visual arts soon led him to study optics, computer science and various printing methods. The organic combination of artistic sensitivity and technical ingenuity brings the author’s work closer to op-art - an optical art that originated in the 1960s in the United States. Representatives of this trend, such as Victor Vasarely, Joseph Albers, Bridget Riley, presented the world with new ways of working with materials and two-dimensional images. Following them, Hong Sungyeon explores human nature and his place in the macrocosm using modern technology.

The artist leaves the viewer alone with the naked emptiness of the world: his work is a portal that takes us to the hidden core of the universe. The author’s three-dimensional compositions simultaneously refer to archaic artistic motives - circles, pictograms, geometric ornaments, and to digital photographs of distant galaxies made by modern telescopes.

Hong Sungyeon works with lenticular printing, which is familiar to us primarily from the production of stereo production: calendars, magnets, bookmarks. However, the author’s technique is incomparably more perfect: the illusion of depth arises due to the multi-layered image and, like a black hole, pulls the viewer into a spatial funnel. Using simple geometric shapes - spirals, waves and combinations of digital noise, the author studies the complex relationships of color and volume, light and darkness.

In each of his works, Hong Sungyeon reflects on who we are, where we came from and where we are going. The artist does not give unequivocal answers to the questions posed - he only brings each of us to the very edge of the abyss, offering to independently look into the face of eternity.

I wanted to make a crystal ball with a flower encased inside it. This was a long process as I had to make a rubber cast of something spherical to hold the shape of the ball.

After that had set I covered the rubber mould in plaster to hold its shape once the styrofoam ball was removed.

Once this all set I was able to suspend the flowers I wanted to encase and pour half the resin into the mould, letting that set then filling the mould all the way.

The result was this cloudy crystal ball that I will hopefully be able to polish to make it appear more clear. ☁️🔮

I think I have a soft spot for cute fruit. Made this little guy over a day or so, all textures procedural, used it as an excuse to practice some primitive animation doin some squash n stretch, gave the wee boi some motion blur and called it a day. His name is Thomas in case anyone’s wondering.

Also introducing my watermark! My long ass name don’t lend itself to much but I slapped this together over a couple days and feel pretty happy with the result. Seeing as my art style is so all over the place I wanted at least one thing in my art to be consistent.

Started playing around with aftereffects because I was procrastinating from doing other things. This here motion graphic combines a bit of traditional animation (grass, floating pebbles, and squirly-thing in the background) with some cool 3D displacement warps using after effects. Try to ignore the cloud at the bottom- rookie mistake as a result of not putting that layer behind the grass layer :p (I’ve fixed it since). I made several other lil gifs too! I’ll post them over the few next weeks or so ☔️

Solomon Aphroditus by Solomon Razmadze
Via Flickr:
✦ it is not a sexual problem but a human problem. the self finds itself in a strange body casing and cannot understand [dualism]. aghast at the arbitrary nature of genitality, the accidentality of a sexual emergence[…] the self cannot accept the impermanence of the body casing or its incompleteness— now male, now female. the body makes no sense to us in its physical thingness, which ties us to a particular kind of fate, a one/sided sexual role. the hermaphroditic image represents a striving for wholeness, a striving that is not sexual but ontological. - the denial of death , ernest becker 1973 ✦ Artworks by #SolomonRazmadze
