요즘 뭘 배우는 게 재밌다.

어릴 땐 늘 배움만 채워진 인생이라서 그랬던건지, 아니면 배울생각이 없던 의무교육에 질렸던건지,

그냥 게을렀던 탓인지 모르지만.

아무튼 요즘 뭔가 새롭게 배우는게 두근거린다.

늘 가진 것으로 해결해야하는 생활과 다르게 어떤 학생이 된다는 게 즐거운 것 같기도 하고.

예전에 영어선생님이 해주시던 말이 있었다.

어른이 되고 나면 새 책을 사도 이름밖에 쓸 것이 없다.

학교도, 학년도, 번호도 없은 오롯한 나.

지금은 정말 이름 뿐인 어른이라서 그런지 알 순 없지만, 배우는 게 즐거워서 다행이���.

운동도, 다른 새로운 것들도 내 인생의 지루한 권태에 지지 않아서 다행이다.

지금껏 엄마가 늘 가족들 앞에서 강조했던 건강의 중요성을 새삼 깨닫게 되는 요즘. 엄마는 늘 가족행사, 아니, 우리 가족이 모두 모인 일요일 어느 평범한 끼니때마다 항상 우리의 건강이 최고라고 강조했다. 근데 시간이 지나면 지날수록 늘 엄마가 버릇처럼, 습관처럼 했던 말들이 진짜 엄마의 바람이었다는 것을 새삼 더 느끼게 되었다. 그리고 나도 어느샌가 소중한 사람들에게 늘 건강하라고 반복하며 잔소리와도 같은 말을 하고 있었다. 당시 왜 맨날 똑같은 말만 하냐며 당연한 거 아니냐고 대답하며 엄마의 진심을 귓등으로도 듣지 않았던 나를 보며 엄마는 얼마나 답답해했을까. 이제라도 깨달았으니 참으로 다행이지. 앞으로도 엄마가 계속 나한테 잔소리해 줬으면 좋겠다. 엄마 이야기 계속 듣고 싶다. 조금 이따 테니스 치러 갈 때 괜히 엄마한테 전화해 봐야지.
