If I had a dollar for every broken pair of glasses and jewelry piece I converted, I'd have about $50, it looks like!
I am using blender as a preview method because I couldn't be bothered with sims moving around and being a nuisance. If you want the in-game previews, I'd suggest checking out the original posts from my old downloads page

Hi I was wondering if I could ask for a request where Steve and Bucky are at the park thinking back to the past in the 40s when the both of them and the reader all three of them where best friends and happy and just overall a chaotic trio and they get sad realizing that you are gone and will never get to grow older together like you once talked about before, but just then a Women accident bumps into Steve because she got distracted and when they both turn to look they see a perfect reincarnation of the reader but the reader smiles and apologizes for bumping into Steve and continues with her morning run while the both of them just can’t comprehend if that women was truly the reader or not. I understand if you can’t do this request but I would really appreciate and love it if you did do this idea thank you so much!!! 🥰

Not overly happy with this yet but I loved the idea so much I just had to post!

The park was beautiful in the crest of springtime. The famed pink cherry blossoms that lined the walkway towards the Washington Monument carried with it the saccharine scent of spring. The cool morning air that blew around them ruffled through Steve’s hair, turning the sweat that dotted his bare arm and forehead cold. He could hear Bucky panting alongside him, their legs a blur of black pants and shoes as they whizzed past the other joggers who were watching them in keen interest. Sam had been left in the dust, dripping sweat and perhaps little tears as Steve and Bucky ran ahead of him.
“Race you to the—“
Bucky didn’t even need to finish his sentence before Steve pumped up his shoes and ran even faster than he did before. He heard Bucky swear silently before the quick pats of his feet against the pavement quickened in tempo. Laughter bubbled from Steve’s chest as he heard Bucky struggling to keep up.
“Guess your metal arm can’t help you now,” Steve taunted, his voice loud enough that he was sure Bucky heard him.
Bucky had previously claimed that his metal arm made him infinitely better than Steve for the sole fact that it was made out of vibranium, making him “stronger” than Steve, which Steve simply disagreed with.
“You really making fun of an amputee?” Bucky said in between pants. Steve cast a glance a little behind him, greeted with the sight of Bucky’s ruddy face as he struggled to keep up. Despite the Supersoldier serum that ran through Bucky’s veins, Steve was suddenly reminded of how much different Erskine’s serum was to Zola’s.  He’d had perfection pumped into his veins while Bucky had a mere shadow of it injected into his body.
“I’m not making fun of an amputee. I’m making fun of you!” Steve increased the tempo of his feet, running even faster and leaving Bucky behind in the dust.
He didn’t even feel winded as he arrived to the end of the pathway, watching as Bucky’s scowl deepened.
“Son of a bitch,” Bucky swore as he struggled for breath. “Whatever happened to no man left behind?”
“I abandoned that idea when we left Sam behind ” Steve could make out Sam’s struggling form far off in the distance. It would take a good 20 minutes before the man could cover the distance that yawned before them. “Think we should get him?”
Bucky followed Steve’s gaze, narrowing his blue eyes before a teasing smile stretched his lips. “Nah. I could use a couple of minutes to rest.”
Steve chuckled as he sat down on one of the park benches, patiently waiting for Sam to catch up with them. Seeing Sam in 20 minutes now seemed like an impossibility as he watched Sam pause, doubling over in exhaustion. He looked prone to collapsing and Steve briefly wondered if he should go get him but stopped as he watched Sam straighten up and continue his slow pace jogging towards them. Sam was nothing if not determined and though he hated being left behind, he’d hate being helped even more.
“You know, he’s gonna be in a really bad mood when he gets here,” Steve remarked when Bucky took the seat beside him.
“That’s what I’m banking on, Steve,” Bucky’s grin was wide and infectious. “I can’t wait to see him get all puffy when he gets here.”
“Kinda reminds me of Y/N,” Steve said tearing his gaze from Sam’s tiny figure and turning his attention to Bucky. “She use to always get so mad whenever we left her behind.”
Bucky glanced at him, a wistful look dancing in his eyes. “Do you remember that time she got so pissed off when I enlisted?”
Steve chuckled. “Definitely. She was so relieved that I couldn’t then Erskine recruited me and she went and got so angry, I thought she was never going to speak to me again.”
“She got so mad she joined the Red Cross then joined the SSR,” Bucky grinned at the memory. “We were both so surprised when she popped up in London, do you remember that?”
Steve grinned at the memory that resurfaced in his head. “How could I possibly forget?”
“You two really think you’d seen the last of me?”
Steve spun around at the sound of the woman’s voice, his eyes growing wide at the sight of her. Y/N looked as beautiful as Steve remembered. Her hair was curled and pinned up in perfection, her lips painted a ruby red. She was wearing an elegant blue dress that showed off the roving curves of her body, her feet clad in simple black heels.
“Y/N?” Bucky’s eyes were wide in wonder and surprise. The last time Steve saw Y/N had been in New York, back home in Brooklyn. She had been crying when Steve told her that he was leaving to fight in the war.
The busy London bar and its loud patrons seemed to melt away at the sight of her. Steve had missed Y/N, the last person to complete the mischievous trio that was their group. Strange how the people around them could continue on their conversations when Steve’s world had been rocked on its feet.
“The very same.” Y/N grinned before her gaze narrowed at Steve’s body, eyes roving up and down his suddenly tall figure. “Though, I’m not sure my friends are the same. Did you eat the Steve Rogers I know?”
Steve hadn’t even hesitated. His arms instantly found themselves around Y/N’s waist, lifting her up in an embrace that she reciprocated with a laugh.
“Yup. You’re definitely Steven Grant Rogers. You still give the best hugs,” Y/N said as Steve set her down to her feet.
“I can’t believe you’re here!” Bucky went in for his own hug, Y/N’s arms wrapping around Bucky’s torso. “How?”
“Well, I couldn’t sign up to be soldier,” Y/N said pulling away and she making her way to the bar and sitting down on the stool that Steve had once occupied, “so I went and became a nurse for the Red Cross. I’d heard rumors that my two best friends were fighting for the SSR and so I sent in a transfer to your unit. I received news last week that I’d been approved and I just arrived today.”
“Who approved your transfer?” Bucky said, a permanent tone of wonderment etched on his voice. He took the seat next to Y/N while Steve took the other.
“Some guy called Colonel Philips?”
Steve raised a dubious brow. “Philips approved your transfer?”
“I’ve been hired to keep you in line. Philips thought our personal connection would help me keep you honest. Apparently, you’ve been keeping the old man on his toes.” Y/N’s smirk widened. “My official title is Captain America’s babysitter. Has a ring to it, don’t you think?”
“You? Our babysitter? We’re likely to get into even more trouble with you around,” Bucky snorted.
Y/N’s eyes shimmered in mischief. “Good thing he doesn’t know that.”
Steve sighed at the memory. Bucky had been right. With Y/N around, they did get into more trouble. Initially, she kept Philips distracted long enough for the Howling Commandos to sneak into missions without Philips noticing. Then, she quickly became popular around the SSR headquarters, instantly befriending Peggy Carter. As the Howling Commandos tore their way through the Nazi forces, Y/N found ways to keep up morale, so much so that she began to gain notoriety amongst the Nazis. With Y/N continuously mocking Hitler on the radio and belittling and condemning the actions of HYDRA, she became public enemy number one after Steve.
She was often found beside Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes when they weren’t on missions and she worked to ensure that the Commando’s war efforts were publicly recognized. Without Y/N, most of the Howling Commando’s efforts would have gone unnoticed. Even Colonel Philips had to begrudgingly agree that Y/N was a useful asset to the team.
“Remember when Johann Schmidt declared her a public enemy of the state?” Steve grinned as another memory resurfaced.
“She loved it so much,” Bucky said with a slight chuckle. “She paraded that title around like she’d been crowned queen. She never cared that it was dangerous.”
“She knew how to handle herself in a fight. She use to be the only person who could beat in the boxing ring. She use to run circles around you. I’m half convinced the war would have ended earlier if she’d been allowed to become a soldier.”
“Well, it wasn’t for a lack of trying. Remember when she stole an airplane from Stark and crashed into a small HYDRA base?”
Steve’s face lit up at the memory. “I almost forgot about that! She came home covered in scrapes and bruises and splinters from when her parachute had her landing in the woods but the grin on her face made it seem like none of it hurt.”
“Oh, it hurt alright,” Bucky snorted. “She cried about it at night when she couldn’t sleep properly.”
Steve grinned. He remembered that too. Y/N was tough but she had the worst habit of letting the little things get to her. She could have easily brushed off being shot at or being threatened with a knife but the moment a minor inconvenience happens to her, it was as if a meteor was about to strike earth and end her entire world.
“God, I miss her,” Steve said, his smile turning a little sad.
“Me too.” Bucky said solemnly.
“I’d never seen her cry as much as she did when you fell off the train,” Steve recalled, his eyes turned haunting. “It was like a piece of her died with you.”
Y/N’s sobs were chased through his memory, her wail of pain unlike anything he’d ever heard before.
“STEVE, BRING HIM BACK! BRING HIM BACK!” Steve could feel her fists beat against his chest, pushing him towards the door. “BRING BUCKY BACK.”
“I’m sorry.” It was the only thing he could think to say. He could feel his own heart break, a fissure erupting a violent stream of hurt. “I’m sorry.”
He knew Y/N’s pain. He understood how she felt. He felt the same pain and anger lace through him, turning his veins into ice.
He knew she wasn’t angry at him. She was angry at the whole world. At this war for taking away their best friend, at the Nazis for their role in killing him. He knew she was angry at herself for not doing enough to try and save Bucky, even though there was nothing she could do. He knew all these things because he felt the same way.
Despite the violence that rage through Y/N, Steve simply wrapped his arms around her, tucking his head below his chin as she wailed. He closed his eyes against the sound of her sobs, committing it to memory.
He made a vow to himself right then and there, silently promising that he would do everything in his power to ensure that Y/N would never feel this way again.
“Bring Bucky back! Steve, bring him back.”
“I wish I could.” Even to his own ears he sounded miserable.
He could feel the fight begin to leave her body, her body giving away to tremors filled with rage. “I don’t know how to live in a world without him. Steve, please. Bring him back.”
“Was she around when you hit the ice?” Bucky’s words sucked him out of the memory.
Steve nodded. “Yeah. Her voice was the last voice I heard before everything went black.”
“Steve?”
Y/N’s voice crackled as it came through the comms.
“Steve, are you there?”
Steve ignored the furious beating of his heart as he spoke. “Yes. I’m here.”
“Steve, don’t die,” Y/N said, her voice breaking. “You’re not allowed to die, you understand? I don’t know how to live in a world without you in it.”
Steve felt a soft, sad smile pull at his lips. The overwhelming sense of despair that crashed against him choked the very breath that left his body. There were no words he could say, no action he could do to make her feel better. He was going to die. At this point, it was inevitable. In truth, he didn’t think he would ever be able to survive the war. Not after he lost Bucky. He knew that his life would end when this war ended.
But it didn’t stop him from imagining a life with Y/N. The love he felt for her had always found a way to cast a fog over his realism. For a while, he allowed himself to hope. To grab that kernel of light and optimism and whisper to it his final dreams for his life.
In that breathless moment, he imagined what his life would be like after this war, what it would be like if he’d lived. A life with Y/N was a faraway dream and all he wanted was to stay asleep.
But he knew it would never be. She didn’t even know how he felt and though had  plans to ask her out if he’d  lived after the war was over, now seemed like the a good time as any. “Y/N, I never got to tell you—“
“I know.” Y/N’s voice crackled once again. He could hear the pain in her words, the what ifs and what could have beens. He could almost imagine the tears that streamed down her face as she spoke. “I’ve known for a really long time and I love you too.”
Steve felt the his heart break clean into two. She loved him?
Steve felt anger and frustration rush through him.
It wasn’t fair. None of it was fair.
The girl he’d loved nearly all his life told him she loved him and yet here he was, on his way to greet death.
No one ever said war was fair but no one ever told him it could be this cruel.
“How long have you known?”
“Ever since we were kids,” she said with a sad little laugh. For a moment, Steve imagined that they were sitting in a diner as they talked and that they had all the time in the world  rather than just a few  minutes.  “I loved you ever since we were kids. I was just waiting for you to make a move and you never did.”
“I never thought a girl like you would ever want to go out with a guy like me.”
Steve could almost imagine the frown on Y/N’s face, at her brows pulling together, forming the little wrinkles Steve loved. “A guy like you? Thoughtful? Kind? Honest?”
“A guy you’d step on and squish. I thought I’d wait until after the war to ask you out.”
“Steven Grant Rogers, I’ve loved you since I was eight. I loved you before you were Captain America and I will love you after. The only thing I don’t love about you is your terrible timing.”
Steve ignored the tear that feel from his eye. Here was the girl of his dreams confessing to him that she’d loved him for as long as they knew each other. He deserved a kick on the ass for being a coward. For being the stupid bastard who didn’t let himself love her as freely as she deserved. Now all he got was a few minutes rather than the years they deserved.
“Tell you what,” Steve said, his Adam’s apple bobbing up and down as he swallowed down the lump on his throat. “Why don’t we go on a date? You and me. After all of this is over, we eat dinner at Frankie’s and see where to go from there.”
There was a beat of silence before Y/N spoke again. “So long as you promise to be there.”
“I’ll be there. 7:30 sharp.”
Another beat of silence. “I’ll wear that green dress you like you so much. Just promise you’ll be there.” Y/N’s voice cracked into a sob and Steve was sure something in him cracked along with it.
He knew Y/N. He knew that there were no two people she loved more on this earth than him and Bucky. Losing Bucky broke something in Y/N, something Steve knew would take him years to fix. Steve’s death would break something in her that could never be fixed.
Steve could see that he was nearing to the glacier now, nearing the spot that Peggy had told him would cause minimal damage.
He hated this. Hated that time seemed to melt from his fingers like snow. He’d had a whole plan about his life. Return home with Bucky and Y/N by his side, and finally ask Y/N out. He’d marry her, have children with her, have Bucky be their children’s godfather, grow old with her.
And now all that seemed to melt away from him.
“As long as you promise to try and move on.”
He heard the sob that racked through her, heard the tremble in her voice as she spoke. “Steve, I can’t do that.”
“You have to,” Steve’s voice was strong, betraying none of the misery he felt as he began the plane’s slow descent towards the freezing waters. “Promise me that, Y/N. Promise me that you’ll move on. Because, I love you, Y/N. I’ve loved you a long time. I want you to live your best life and you can’t do that if you’re holding on to the past.”
“Okay,” Y/N said, her voice low in a fervent whisper that sounded an awful lot like a prayer. “I promise I’ll move on. But I also vow to be yours after this stupid war is over. I’ll be yours forever if you survive.”
“I vow I’ll always be yours, Y/N,” Steve said. He knew in his heart that his words were true. With death’s hand on his shoulders, he will always be Y/N’s.
“Steve, I love—“
And his plan plunged to the cold depths of the ocean.
“The first thing I did after I woke up from the ice was look for her,” Steve said as the memory melted away.
“I know,” Bucky said as he placed a comforting hand on Steve’s shoulder. “You told me you found her but I didn’t want to know what happened to her. I think I’m ready now.”
“She died (your age) years ago,” Steve said with a heavy sigh. “She got sick. Cancer apparently. She was in remission for a while until she relapsed. She fought til the end until her body gave out.”
Bucky seemed to pause, holding in a breath as he processed the information. “Who buried her?”
At that, a smile pulled at Steve’s lips. “After I died, she helped establish SHIELD with Peggy and Howard. She never married but she had children and grandchildren. They buried her next to our graves back home in Brooklyn.”
“Of course she wouldn’t marry,” Bucky said with an almost satisfied smirk. “I don’t think any man was ever good enough for her except for us. I could only imagine the scandal of her having kids without a husband.”
“That’s probably why she did it. Scandalizing people, especially the old coots back home, was her favorite past time.” This time, the smile that stretched Steve’s lips were wide, all nostalgia and joy.
“I think I’d like to visit her. You think you can show me where she’s buried?”
Steve nodded. “I visited her a couple of times. Let me tell you this though, seeing a gravestone with your name on it is weird.”
Bucky’s laugh rang around the open park. “I can imagine.”
Steve could hear Sam’s quick panting as he neared the bench. Sweat dripped down his face towards his grey sweater, his face puffy and his eyes wide, almost in delirium.
“I can’t believe you both left me!” Sam said as he pointed an accusatory finger at them before bracing himself against his knees and releasing a pained wheeze. “On your left my ass! You were at my front!”
“Not our fault you’re slow,” Bucky said with a challenging smirk.
“I will beat your ass up.” Sam said gravely, fixing a shrewd glare in Bucky’s direction.
“You can’t even stand up.”
“I will beat your ass up as soon as I can stand up.” Sam said, his words sandwiched between even more panting.
Steve shook his head at his arguing friends before he stood up. “Here. Take my seat.”
Sam took the seat, settling down on the stone bench in a tired slump. “Jesus, I don’t think I can move after this.”
“Great. Steve, let’s go,” Bucky said teasingly as he stood up.
“Bucky,” Steve said with a disappointed tsk and shake of his head.
Suddenly, Steve felt his body jolt as something, or rather, someone, hit his back.
“Shit, I am so sorry,” the woman said, causing Steve’s back to stiffen.
That voice. He’d recognize that voice anywhere.
He spun around in surprise, watching the woman as she straightened up.
And there she was.
The bustling of the park, Sam’s heavy breathing, even the shock in Bucky’s face as he looked at the woman, all faded in the background. His focus zeroed in on the woman’s face.
Everything about her was the same. The same innocent smile tinged with mischief; the same beautiful E/C eyes that crinkled as she smiled; the same nose. Even the way she moved was the same. The way she ran her hand through her face in embarrassment, the way she bit her lips until they turned pink, the way her face flushed in embarrassment. Her H/C was pulled back in a ponytail, the usual skirts and dresses Steve remembered she always wore was replaced by black leggings and a tight red tank top but it was still her. It was as if an angel thumbed through his memories and pulled forth the very figure of his hopes and dreams.
The only thing missing was the gleam of familiarity in Y/N’s eyes.
“I am so sorry,” the woman said, her cheeks tinging red in embarrassment.  “Trust me of all people to bump into Captain America.”
Despite his disbelief, Steve’s brows pulled together, forming into a look of hope. “You know who I am?”
“Of course I do,” she chirped happily. “You’re Steve Rogers. Mr. Captain America. And you—“ she pointed to Bucky, who was looking at her as she was his very salvation. “—are Bucky Barnes, the Winter Solider. Or, at least you were the Winter Soldier. And you—“ she pointed at Sam, who was glancing at her face back to Steve’s face back to Bucky’s face and back again to Y/N’s face “—are the Falcon.”
Realization seemed to dawn in Sam’s features as he continued to study the woman’s face. Ever the loyal friend, Sam reached a hand forward as he stood up, his previous feeling of exhaustion replaced by a polite smile as if he realized that his friends couldn’t fathom much less understand what  was going on. “Call me Sam. Pleasure to meet you, miss.”
“Y/N,” the woman said brightly, oblivious to the whoosh of breath that was knocked out from Steve’s chest. She reached for Sam’s hand, giving him a firm handshake.
Steve felt like a bucket of ice water fell on his head as he gazed at Y/N. He couldn’t seem to shake off the feeling of shock and judging by the way Bucky was staring at Y/N intently, he couldn’t either.
“You run here often?” Sam asked politely, ignoring Bucky’s look of wonder and Steve’s gaping mouth.
“First time actually. I only just moved here from Brooklyn. I didn’t know the Avengers ran here often.”
“Not the Avengers. Just us three. Occasionally, Natasha joins us,” Sam said by way of conversation as he subtly glanced at Bucky and Steve, who still haven’t said anything.
Y/N nodded politely. Politely. The Y/N he knew was only ever polite when she was around strangers. She was being polite because she didn’t know who she was, what she meant to Bucky and Steve. To her, they were Bucky Barnes and Steve Rogers, war heroes and the Avengers. They weren’t Bucky and Steve, her best friends in the whole wide world.
Her eyes darted around nervously as she pursed her lips. She sent another apologetic smile towards Steve’s  direction. “Sorry again, Mr. Rogers. I didn’t meant to bump into you. I wasn’t looking where I was going.”
‘Mr. Rogers’ spurred Steve into movement, words finally finding him. “It was no problem. Please, it’s Steve. Mr. Rogers makes me feel old.”
The same old mischievous grin Steve was used to seeing on Y/N’s face appeared. “Well, you are about a hundred or so years old.”
“I’m sprightly for a hundred years or so, I think,” Steve said with a smile, betraying none of the wonder that echoed in his thoughts.
“You both are,” Y/N said as she glanced at Bucky, giving him a sweet smile. “I should get going. I have a couple rounds left before I reach my goal for the day. It was nice meeting you all.”
“You too,” Bucky blurted out, as if realizing that he hadn’t spoken at all since he first laid eyes on Y/N.
Y/N sent him another sweet smile before she jogged away.
As soon as she was out of earshot, Steve turned to his friends.
“She looked just like Y/N. It can’t be a coincidence that they have the same name.” Sam said as he watched Y/N’s retreating figure. He’d only seen pictures of Y/N from old photographers of when the trio was still in the SSR but Sam’s always been sharp and good at faces. He would have recognized Y/N even without Bucky and Steve there.
“It was her. I know it’s her.” Bucky said, resolution and determination shining in his eyes. “I don’t know how or why but I know it’s her.”
Sam frowned. “Bucky, she died years ago.”
“It was her,” Steve said, breaking apart whatever brewing argument was inevitably going to start between his friends. “I know it doesn’t make sense but it was her. I’d recognize her with my eyes closed and I know deep in my bones, it’s the same Y/N that Bucky and I grew up with. That’s Y/N.”
Hope blossomed in Steve’s chest, a warm fire that rivaled the heat of the recently risen sun on the horizon. There was no doubt in his mind that the woman he just met was Y/N. He didn’t know how something so impossible has been made possible and in truth, he couldn’t bring himself to care. Even if she couldn’t remember who she was, who Bucky was, who Steve was, he was determined to remind her.
There was the love of his life. His timing had failed him before and he wasn’t about to let that happen again.
He didn’t even realize he’d been running until Y/N’s retreating figure loomed before him, Sam and Bucky yelling out his name in vain.
“Y/N, wait!”
She turned, surprised flitting to her face before confusion settled in. She stopped running, letting Steve catch up to her.
“I hope you’re not here to tell me you plan on charging me for assault because I swear, when I bumped into you, it was an accident.” Y/N said, still clearly confused but nevertheless letting her naturally teasing nature show.
“I don’t mean to be too forward but I actually wanted to ask you out on a date,” Steve blurted out, the fast beating of his heart from his short run picking up in tempo as nervousness took over.
She startled. “You want to go on a date with me?”
“Yes.”
She seemed to consider it for a moment before she slowly nodded, a small smile gracing her lips. It lit up her whole face, reminding Steve of memories he’d long since buried. “Alright. Okay, yeah. I’ll go on a date with you. I’m pretty sure an Avenger wouldn’t actively try to kill me.”
He laughed, his laughter as warm as the hope that blossomed in his chest.
Maybe it was magic or an evil plot. His optimism would want him to believe that Y/N was a miracle though. Maybe a gift from God for all of his good deeds. Whatever it was, Steve was going to do it right this time, shitty timing be damned.

The first couple weeks back in her old world were odd for Jess and it wasn’t just because she had gotten used to spending her days wandering the halls of Graceland but because people actually seemed to notice her now. They didn’t say anything of course [though she figured that was because the last time they had seen her they’d watched Jerry nearly knock someone’s head off for talking to her] but there were definitely more stares. And as a girl who’d kept to herself the majority of her school career that feeling felt odd.
Her only saving grace seemed to be that her friends, though few, remained as normal as they had been. Naturally they understood what a big deal it was and though they were a little hurt about being lied to overall they supported her. She supposed it helped that Elvis’ popularity amongst the youth had dwindled a little because if it hadn’t she didn’t know how she would’ve fared. Going back to her old life was one thing, going back and having everyone treat you differently was another.
And going back to her old life had been hard in itself.
It hadn’t been as bad with Jerry around but once he’d gone home it felt more as though she was in the life she had been living last year, the one where he didn’t know she existed. He had been trying so hard though. They had spoken almost every day on the phone, sometimes even practicing the guitar together though they were miles apart. Still, it was hard. Especially when she could hear how much he was missing her.
She had heard it in his voice this evening when he’d called. He had been hoping they’d manage to catch a weekend together but it was proving difficult to line up. With midterms coming up there was no way she would be able to wangle a weekend out of state and given that the Colonel had already had a tour lined up for him there was going to be no time for him to fly in to see her. So he’d informed her that it would probably better if they settled for dates during spring break as planned. She’d been sad but she’d agreed though that hadn’t stopped her moping around the house for the last hour.
‘Jess?’ she heard her mother call from the front door.
‘Up here,’ she called pushing herself back on the bed until she was resting against the wall waiting for her mom to come in as she could hear her coming up the stairs. After a moment or so she pushed the door open looking at Jess with a smile, ‘hi sweetie, are you okay with pizza? I’m exhausted from work and don’t feel like cooking.’
‘Pizza’s fine,’ Jess said with a smile though it seemed weak, making Addison frown.
‘Are you okay?’ she asked moving into the room though she rested on the door handle.
‘Yeah, I’m fine,’ Jess said.
‘But?’ Addison asked wondering what was bothering her.
‘Nothing…I spoke to dad earlier,’ Jess explained making a knot form in Addison’s stomach, ‘he said he won’t be able to see us until spring break. Some tour or something.’
‘Oh,’ Addison said that knot lessening though she tried to mask her own disappointment as she said, ‘well that’s not all that far away, is it?’
‘I suppose,’ Jess shrugged.
‘And you two have been calling every day,’ she reasoned though she wasn’t sure who she was trying to reassure. Jess seemed to think about and then nodded, offering her mom a small smile. Addison didn’t feel much more reassured, but she smiled anyway and said, ‘how about some pizza huh?’
‘Sure,’ Jess said, ‘barbecue?’
‘Sure thing,’ Addison smiled before she closed the door and headed downstairs.
Yet as she descended her staircase she found her mind was on Elvis as it had been most of the time they had been home. She missed him, a lot, and the only thing that had been getting her through was the prospect it wouldn’t be too long until they could see each other again. She didn’t know why she was so desperate to see him. She was still firm in her decision that they couldn’t be together, and he had lived up to his promise of not forgetting about them the second they were out the door. In fact she probably spoke to him more than when they were living in his house. He called Jess nearly every day and it somehow ended with the pair of them on the phone together. Then it had started happening when she was sure he knew Jess wouldn’t be home or ridiculously late when she was in bed. She should’ve said something but she couldn’t bring herself to. That was why this prolonged gap scared her - they were doing so well.
When she got downstairs she tried to put it out of her mind. He’d no doubt call at some point and they could discuss it properly and she should’ve felt grateful he was being open and honest with Jess instead of putting her off with excuses or asking Addison to be the bearer of bad news. Yet as she picked up the phone to dial the pizza place she found her finger twitching to put in that familiar set of digits and she had to force herself not to. As the phone rang out for the pizza place she stripped out of her uniform, donning a pair of pyjamas that had been sitting on top of her neglected pile of clean laundry for over a week but just as she went to throw her shirt on the line clicked on and she was forced to give her order in just her bra, holding back laughter as she pictured Tony on the other end of the line completely unaware of the scene, Elvis’ teasing in her mind. Though as the order finished up and the line went dead she found herself dialling again, throwing her shirt on as it rang out until it eventually clicked on.
‘Hello?’ Elvis’ voice rang out clear but soft in her ear.
‘Hey…it’s me,’ she said. She didn’t know why she called him and now she was on the phone she found it was evident she had no reason to, her words not coming as she stood there. On the other end she could hear Elvis shift, waiting for her to say something but when she didn’t he answered for her, ‘uh everything alright?’
‘Fine, fine,’ she said twirling the phone cord around in her fingers nervously,
‘You know you’re a horrible liar,’ Elvis chuckled making her flush, ‘what’s the matter?’
‘Nothings the matter,’ she protested hopping up on the countertop so she could speak, ‘I’ve just come home to a very forlorn teenager you wouldn’t know anything about that now, would you?’
‘Oh that,’ Elvis sighed.
‘She said you’re going on tour?’ Addison asked.
‘Yeah, it’s been booked for a while I just kinda forgot… what with everything going on,’ Elvis said sheepishly.
‘That’s understandable,’ Addison said as amenably as she could. She knew it wasn’t his fault but the fact the Colonel’s doings would push them apart once again did sting.
‘Which isn’t ideal I know especially since I was hoping I’d be able to swing by sometime soon,’ Elvis explained.
‘Swing by? Oh sure just pop on over it’s only what fifteen hundred miles?’ Addison giggled.
‘Well it’s not ideal but it’s doable,’ Elvis said soaking in her laugh as it travelled through the line, ‘just not right now, I guess. Looks like spring break is gonna be the next time we can meet.’
‘Well we knew that might be our only option,’ Addison said.
‘Yeah, I suppose,’ Elvis said sounding just as upset as Jess had. It was a tone that made her chest feel tighter. Elvis didn’t seem to notice she had paused and asked, ‘Jess isn’t too upset right? I tried to explain-’
‘She’s fine just a little bummed out,’ Addison said hoping her words made him feel better.
‘Me too,’ he admitted, ‘but hey maybe one day it’ll slow down and then you guys will be sick of seeing me around your place.’
‘Does your life ever slow down?’ Addison countered. It was joke though its only purpose was to deflect that funny feeling inside her when he mentioned them seeing each other all the time.
‘Yeah, I guess you’re right,’ he sighed making her worry she had over corrected.
‘But there’s always spring break,’ she said trying to reel him back.
‘Yeah true,’ he agreed with a smile and then without any prompting she found the words tumbling out of her mouth before she gave them permission to.
‘I’m looking forward to it. I miss you,’ she said. He paused for a beat making her wince as she heard how desperate she sounded though that desperation didn’t seem all that bad as he said, ‘I miss you too.’
Fortunately her little slip of vulnerability seemed to be forgotten and Elvis remained true to his word about staying in contact. Though life got busier he managed to find time for them even if the calls were now every other day. And as time went on Addison couldn’t help but feel excited about going back to Graceland, he may not have brought up her mentioning how much she missed him but that didn’t mean she had stopped. In fact it only seemed to get worse, no more so than when they were pulling into the gates of Graceland. He was mere meters away instead of miles and it was taking all she had not to run into the house like a mad woman so she was disappointed when they came in through the front door and found him nowhere to be seen.
She didn’t know what she had expected and though Dodger and Vernon’s warm welcome from where they had been waiting for them in the living room was nice it wasn’t the same. Still, she smiled through it all, making casual conversation about their trip even though her feet were itching to run and find him. Fortunately there was no need to just as Vernon was talking about their plans for dinner she heard the dining room door open and looked up to find Elvis coming through it.
‘Has anyone seen Nancy?’ he said stopping in his tracks as he noted the pair of them standing in the living room entry way, ‘what are you guys doing here? I-I mean so soon I thought you weren’t due till four?’
‘Our flight got in a little early and Jer was already there,’ Addison said feeling a little better that he hadn’t just forgotten.
‘I wish I’d have known,’ he said. He’d been hanging around all day, anxious for them to arrive and now he had missed it, though he seemed to pull out of his disappointment as he noticed Jess was standing there, ‘hey Jessie.’
‘Hi Dad,’ she smiled going over to hug him. He hugged her close, revelling in what he had been missing for the past couple of months.
‘Have ya got taller?’ he smiled, ‘feels like ya got another inch on ya.’
‘Don’t think so,’ Jess smiled, ‘maybe you’ve shrunk.’
‘Maybe,’ he chuckled, looking up at Addison who was watching him closely. As Jess pulled back he moved towards her opening his arms for her to step into which she did, cherishing every second of the feel of him against her. The best she had felt in months. When she pulled back she lingered in his arms for a minute, the pair of them smiling at one another, unwilling to let go.
‘What about me?’ she said.
‘Huh?’ Elvis asked trying to ignore the way his heart was thudding in his chest.
‘Have I got taller?’ she teased making him smirk.
‘Nope, still the same lil shorty you’ve always been,’ he ribbed making her roll her eyes though as she did she noticed there was something on his face and moved her finger to brush it off.
‘Is that flour?’ she asked as his hand flew to his cheek as he brushed at himself, removing himself from her grip as he checked himself in the mirror close by, much to her disappointment.
‘Oh uh yeah,’ he said, ‘I’m baking a cake.’
‘You’re baking a cake?’ Addison said raising an eyebrow.
‘Well me and Lisa are with Nancy’s supervision that’s what I was comin’ out to find her for,’ Elvis said feeling a touch shy as the girls shared a smug look.
‘Why are you baking a cake?’ Jess asked intrigued but just as she did Lisa appeared at Elvis’ side.
‘Elvis you’re taking too long,’ she whined pulling on his shirt impatiently.
‘I’m just talking baby. I’ll be in in a minute, okay?’ he said making her nod as she opened her arms in expectation for him to pick her up. He did so and only once she was securely on his hip did she seem to notice they weren’t alone and her gaze shifted past him, finally noticing Jess and Addison standing there.
‘Hey Lisa,’ Jess said first making the younger girl smile.
‘Hi Jessie,’ she beamed before looking at Addison and saying, ‘hi Miss Addison.’
‘Hi sweetheart,’ Addison said, ‘I hear you and your daddy are baking a cake.’
‘We are,’ Lisa said her eyes lighting up as she responded, her annoyance at Elvis’ lack of haste all but forgotten, ‘it’s for you and Jess!’
‘It is?’ Jess said with a smile.
‘Yep!’ she said beaming back at her.
‘You didn’t need to do all that,’ Addison said leaning in towards her with a smile.
‘We’re celebrating,’ Lisa said seriously.
‘Oh yeah what are we celebrating?’ Addison smiled.
‘Jessie is my sister! So I asked Elvis if we could make a cake,’ she smiled making Addison pull back.
‘Yeah, uh Cilla thought it was better she knew,’ he said looking at Jess who smiled, ‘Jess why don’t you two go and see if it’s ready?’
‘Okay,’ she said offering her hand out as he slipped Lisa off his hip. Lisa took it immediately, looking up at her sister as she started telling her every single detail about the cake she could remember. As they disappeared into the kitchen he turned back, finding Addison watching him with a smile.
‘You okay with her knowing?’ he asked.
‘Everyone else does,’ she said, ‘not exactly fair to keep her in the dark.’
‘Yeah, Cilla figured she was better telling her than someone else,’ he said. It felt weird to mention her in front of Addison. For the past couple of months he had done nothing but think of her, long for her, and to mention another woman, even his ex-wife, in front of her felt wrong. He loved Priscilla of course, he always would, but right now he just wanted to revel in the fact she was back in front of him, for at least another few weeks.
‘Yeah she’s right. And if it means we get cake I’m in,’ she smirked, ‘you made chocolate cake right?’
‘Like I’d be stupid enough to pick anything else,’ he smirked throwing his arm around her shoulders in a manner that made her stomach flip flop as they walked towards the kitchen, ‘but uh I’m not promisin’ it’ll be edible.’
‘Cakes cake,’ Addison smiled.
✵✵✵
Over the next couple of days Addison was surprised just how quickly she fell into the groove that was Graceland. As a kid she’d become part of the furniture in months, as a teen just weeks, but now as an adult she found she was back feeling just as comfortable as ever in days if not hours. Which was why she was filled with trepidation as she headed downstairs to the kitchen. Now if she was at home the day would be like any other. A day at home with maybe a dinner out with Jess, the perfect way to spend her thirty third birthday. But being familiar with the aura the house brought meant she doubted today would that simple. Which is why she was confused when she walked into the kitchen to find Elvis, Jess, Lisa and Dodger sitting at the kitchen table like they had for the past couple of days. No frills. No outright celebration. It made her suspicious. At her presence by the stairs Jess looked up from her breakfast and smiled.
‘Happy Birthday Mom,’ Jess said as Addison moved to pour herself a cup of coffee whilst Dodger got up to make her a plate.
‘Thanks sweetheart,’ Addison said as Dodger set her plate down and said, ‘happy birthday.’
‘Thanks,’ she smiled slipping into the seat beside Elvis who was watching her.
‘What?’ she asked.
‘Am I allowed to say happy birthday?’ he asked.
‘Of course you are why?’ Addison said confused.
‘Well I asked Jess if we could put up some banners and she said no. So I suggested we go out for breakfast and she said no,’ Elvis teased making her roll her eyes, ‘so I just wondered what I could do.’
‘Pass the syrup,’ Addison retorted. Elvis smirked but grabbed the syrup bottle by him all the same, handing it to her as he said, ‘happy birthday.’
‘Thank you,’ Addison smiled.
‘Happy birthday Miss Addie,’ Lisa said with a mouthful of pancake.
‘Why thank you Miss Lisa,’ Addison smiled.
‘Hang on I left your present upstairs,’ Jess said moving to get up from her seat but her mother waved her off.
‘It’ll keep,’ Addison said.
‘Mom,’ Jess protested.
‘Honestly it’s fine,’ Addison said, ‘eat your breakfast. I can go another hour or so without cards and presents.’
‘I made you a card too,’ Lisa beamed.
‘Well thank you sweetie that’s very kind of ya,’ Addison smiled glancing at Elvis who smirked as he picked up his coffee cup.
‘Well don’t be expecting anything off me,’ Elvis chuckled as he sipped his drink, ‘I know better.’
‘Are you saying you’ve finally listened?’ Addison teased.
‘I just figure you’ll be as stubborn at thirty-three as you were at three,’ Elvis smirked before he added, ‘though I hear old age is supposed to mellow folks out.’
‘Hey you’ve still got five years on me bub,’ she quipped.
‘Oh so I’m old now?’ Elvis mused. She was smiling at him, her hazel eyes sparkling as she teased him, and he found it odd how their age difference didn’t feel like the chasm it once had. Back when they’d been dating he’d been so aware of it even though she was never the seventeen-year-old she should’ve been thanks to the stressors in her life. Yet now he felt as though they were equal.
‘By God if you two are old what does that make me?’ Dodger laughed making the girls giggle. As Addison looked towards her Elvis continued watching her for just a second feeling his heart flutter as he took her in though he was forced to shift his gaze to his grandmother as he felt Jess watching him.
‘You’re probably more of a spring chicken than any of us,’ Addison said.
‘Have to be to keep up with you young ‘uns,’ Dodger chuckled, ‘anyway what are you doing to celebrate?’
‘Oh nothing much,’ Addison shrugged.
‘Oh come on Addie,’ Elvis moaned. He had been lenient. He knew if he went overboard it wouldn’t go down well and though Jess had supported his ideas she had reigned him a little. He had listened, well mostly, but if he was going to have a chance at doing what he had planned for later he needed her to be at least halfway on board, not flat out refusing.
‘What?’ she asked, ‘I’m good.’
‘Come on mom we gotta do something,’ Jess said.
‘I’m doing what I want. I’m hanging out with you guys,’ Addison said.
‘Aw you big softy,’ Elvis teased earning a playful glare.
‘Oh shut up,’ she said.
‘Seriously though we have to do something today,’ Elvis said.
‘Yeah, I agree,’ Jess said.
‘Me too,’ Lisa agreed making Addison sigh as she looked at the three of them watching her with the same big blue puppy dog eyes. Dodger chuckled and shifted out of her seat, taking Jess and Lisa’s empty plate from in front of them as she looked at Addison and said, ‘ain’t no use fighting ‘em.’
‘No I know,’ Addison sighed, ‘okay fine but what?’
‘Anything, the world’s your lobster,’ Elvis said as she agreed.
‘Nothing too over the top though,’ Addison warned, if anything she was at a loss of what she actually wanted to do. She hadn’t been lying when she’d said spending time with them was enough and so she looked to the girls for help, ‘what do you girls want to do?’
‘Ooh how about we go horseback riding? Dad said he was going to show me some of the trails off the grounds,’ Jess said.
‘Yeah!’ Lisa cheered.
‘Well that would be good if I could actually ride a horse,’ Addison said.
‘You could ride with me,’ Elvis said making her look at him though as he felt a heat pool in his lower belly he backtracked figuring maybe it wasn’t the best idea to have her tucked in front of him for the whole afternoon, ‘or Jess she’s a real strong rider.’
‘Yeah, I promise we won’t race,’ Jess giggled. Addison hesitated; it wouldn’t have been her first choice but seeing how excited they both were she couldn’t help but smile.
‘Horse riding it is,’ she said.
✵✵✵
Despite her uncertainty Addison found her birthday actually going pretty well. After their late breakfast stroke lunch they’d headed out to the stables where Elvis had introduced her to the horses. She’d met some of them on their first visit but seeing how much Jess and Elvis enjoyed riding together she’d chosen to stay away so they could enjoy something just the pair of them. Lisa had told her all about her horse though as they headed out she had opted to ride with Elvis on Rising Sun whilst Jess and Addison shared Priscilla’s horse Lady. They’d wandered through the grounds at a slow pace, talking about anything and everything though there were times when the four of them were content to just watch the laziness of the springtime pass through the Graceland grounds. Eventually they made their way out onto the back streets, most of which Addison was sure Elvis owned as they remained deserted and unbothered well until they looped back onto the main stretch of road out front of the mansion and people started noticing them.
As they headed back up to the gates Elvis remained calm, waving at folks as he passed them though she noticed how he directed Jess to steer in closer to him. It wasn’t busy but as they pulled up by the gate they were stopped. Whilst Elvis slipped gracefully off his horse he kept Lisa on gesturing for the guard to walk her through as he nodded for Jess to trot on in. They lingered by the open gate, waiting for him as he interacted with the couple of fans waiting - taking pictures and signing autographs. And as Addison sat watching him from a distance she was struck by how normal it all felt. That even though he was talking to fans outside a literal mansion it felt as though they could be anyone. Just the four of them. A family.
And for a moment she let herself believe just that. She’d been protesting it all so much her head was a spin but she couldn’t deny how much she liked that idea. How she liked that as they came into the gates he’d taken charge just in case. She liked how Jess had become so acclimatised to what she had once feared she didn’t even bat an eye as people started staring at them. She liked that Lisa seemed to like having her around. And so she was going to enjoy it even if just for the day, as a birthday present to herself.
After the ride the girls had insisted they spend the rest of the day by the pool and given that it was a comfortably warm 75 degrees Addison and Elvis agreed. Whilst Addison read her book by the side of it, chatting to Mary when she came out with a tray full of drinks and snacks, Elvis and the girls made the most of the water.  She tried to focus on her book but from time to time she couldn’t help but watch them play. She loved how laid back he was with them, how his head fell back with such radiant laughter as they played. She loved how the girls shrieked when he lifted them into the sky, launching them into the pool with an almighty splash. She loved how he pretended not to notice the girls plotting to dunk him under the water though the fervent giggling gave them away almost instantaneously.
After a while they climbed out, Jess barely having time to grab a towel before Lisa was pulling her by the hand towards her outside play area. Addison watched them go, using her hand to shield her eyes from the sun though she was distracted as Elvis shook off like a dog beside her causing water to spatter up her bronzing skin. Since they’d gone outside she hadn’t really seen much of him. He and the girls had been so excited they’d practically ran down the stairs and allowed her to take her time. Now he was standing beside her looking at her with a cock sure grin as he towelled water droplets off his toned tanned torso. It made a fire burn in her lower belly, one she had to force herself to stomp out. She was already living in enough fantasy for today.
‘You alright over here on your own?’ Elvis said as he dropped down onto the sun lounger beside her, running the towel over his legs as he tried to get dry.
‘Perfectly fine,’ she said popping her bookmark in the crevice of her book and placing it on her lap, ‘you guys looked like you were enjoying yourselves.’
‘Yeah, it’s been a good day,’ he beamed flopping onto his back as he placed his legs up onto the lounger.
‘Yeah it has,’ she smiled. She could hear the girls from far away, laughing and giggling, and the rustle of the breeze through the tall trees on the grounds which caught her attention as she watched their leaves flutter for a moment. When she looked back towards him he was watching her.
‘Have you had a good day?’ he asked hopefully.
‘Yeah, I really have,’ she smiled though it dimmed as he shifted, pulling the wet material of his swim trunks off the skin on his thigh that they had been sticking to. He looked hesitant for a moment but then he seemed to think about whatever he was going to say and decide it was a good idea.
‘You know I’ve been thinkin’,’ he said quietly.
‘What about?’ she asked wondering what on earth might be going on in that head of his. If her little fantasy for the day had been so overtly obvious that he had noticed.
‘Today,’ he admitted, ‘and I know you said low-key, but I’d like to take you out to dinner…you should celebrate.’
‘I am,’ Addison said though it wasn’t an attempt to be abrasive. Sitting in the sun surrounded by her favourite people had been more than she could have asked for.
‘I mean properly,’ he said quietly.
‘I am,’ she said, ‘besides it’s not like it’s a big birthday or anything.’
‘No but…I’ve missed your big birthdays,’ he said glancing at her before he dropped his gaze, ‘eighteen, twenty-one, thirty…so I’d like to do something nice for ya. Nothing extravagant just a dinner nothing more, just us, the kids, Daddy and them.’
‘Okay,’ she said smiling at him as he braved looking at her though as she did an idea flicked through her brain making her sit up quickly as did Elvis now panicked, ‘oh god what am I gonna wear?’
‘Jesus Ads you almost gave me a heart attack,’ Elvis said sinking back as she flushed, embarrassed at her theatrics.
‘Sorry I just haven’t brought anything…fancy,’ she said.
‘You think McDonalds is fancy?’ Elvis asked raising an eyebrow though he smirked as he saw her frown, ‘I’m just kiddin’.’
‘Har har,’ she said, ‘still wherever we go I don’t think I’ve got anything…’
‘Well if you want you could go shopping with the girls this afternoon, take my card, buy something new. Don’t look at me like that,’ he said as she glared at him, ‘you can spend as much as little as you want. Besides I ain’t bought ya anything so you can count it as your present.’
‘You really haven’t bought me anything?’ she said in a tone that made Elvis suppress a smile. She was disappointed he could tell though she was pretending she wasn’t. It was true he hadn’t technically bought her anything but that didn’t mean he hadn’t arranged her a present. And having them all out of the house would definitely help him set it up.
‘Nope,’ he said.
‘Smart move,’ she said putting her eyes on the page of her book she had reopened.
‘Can’t promise Dodger hasn’t though,’ he said.
‘She shouldn’t spend her money on me,’ Addison tutted making him laugh heartily which confused her, ‘what?’
‘Nuthin’,’ Elvis chuckled, ‘I just think it’s sweet you think it’s her money.’
‘Looks like you bought me something after all then huh?’ Addison said.
‘Looks like,’ he smiled.

Bucky’s arm encircles your waist, pulling you closer into his chest. His nose traces along your shoulder and then his lips place a soft kiss on the skin where your his shirt falls from your shoulder.
You feel his fingertips brush over your stomach, the muscles slightly contract under the foreign touch which feels searingly familiar.
He sleepily mumbles something, his breath fanning over your neck makes you giggle.
Bucky’s smile against your skin reminds you of home, the fluttering in your chest finally finds itself happy.
You have someone to call home.
“I love you.” He whispers, then tugs on your earlobe.
“I love you.” He says again, kissing your cheek.
You turn in his hold, facing him, sleepy azure beckoning you to drown. Sweeter than the call of a siren.
“I love you.” You say, he leans in closer, soft slightly chapped lips brush against yours. Then press closer. Your eyes close, cupping his face. Bucky pulls you closer.
Discomfort trickles up your spine, turning the warmth of Bucky into cold and your eyes open. The lamp in your room does nothing to brighten the dull ache in your heart as there is no Bucky pulling you close to him.
Tears pool at your eyes, brimming over as you try to blink them away. You squeeze your eyes shut again, hoping your dream can continue. At least in the dreams you never had oceans separating the two of you.
Wiping the hot tears you blearily look at the small digital clock on your wall the small red numbers gloat it is five AM, you groan.
The earlier discomfort manifests again but this time between your legs. Throwing off the blanket you groan. If the dream hadn’t caused a longing sadness the evidence of being greeted by your period sent you into a goddamn meltdown.
Wiping away your fresh tears you grab a change of pyjama pants and head to the bathroom. The cramp takes over when you are just exiting and this day hasn’t even begun and you felt as though everything was absolute shit.
“That was rude of you.” You grumpily mutter to your stomach, actually glaring at your uterus.
“Not the cramps, that I expect, but the dream of him.” Pulling the blanket back on yourself you struggle to find a comfortable position.
Your phone chimes. The notification tab filled with sporadic texts from Bucky.
Bucky🌻:
Would you rather go ice skating with only one skate, or would you rather go skiing with only one ski?
Bucky🌻:
If that sounds out of the blue it is, my brain is getting fried here.
Bucky🌻:
i saw this and thought of you, for lunch i went and got halal guys
(he’s attached a picture of a small patch of grass with a few flowers growing amongst the concrete pavement of the city)
(he also sent a video of him eating the food and tempting you)
Your brain malfunctions when he licks the sauce off of his bottom lip.
Bucky🌻:
in all the restrictive bullshit you’ve found room to grow and be yourself.
Bucky🌻:
Can the twin spawns of satan— are we insulting satan or praising him by assigning said twin spawns as satan’s spawn?
You giggle at that, swiping the message you begin to type out a reply.
The three dots appear from Bucky’s end, then his message.
Bucky🌻:
Its 5 am, you better have a reasonable explanation for being up, we have lunch planned from your end not breakfast.
You roll your eyes at the sternness that wafts off of his message.
Bucky🌻:
Don’t roll your eyes.
Also no, I have not hacked your camera.
You huff, sending your reply.
Doll🌸:
I was peacefully sleeping, dreaming about this very, very handsome man but then my own body betrayed me. 🩸🦈
Bucky🌻:
Oh no, did the cramps start? Is that electric heated water-bag I sent the link of near to you? Should I order some chocolates?
Also who was this lucky man to grace your dreams?
You laugh, but then groan as a cramp takes over. Bucky had been kind enough to track down a water bag that was basically electrically heated therefore waiting to warm the water and fill up the bag was entirely eliminated.
Doll🌸:
i hadn’t thought of the bag, going to retrieve it also jealous much, Mr. Barnes?
Bucky takes a breath, tired from the day, he looks around at the half empty floor of the software team.
Bucky🌻:
i’m only a man, doll. Do you know how difficult it is to know others get to sit, stand, eat, drink, laugh and have your warmth next to them?
Your breath hitches, as you sit up, the hot water bag providing relief. Your eyes brim with tears at his words. Having Quentin here was annoying him to no beyond, your father was purposely uploading the pictures
Bucky🌻:
i don’t want to cause more heartache but today is one of those days i wish i could come home to you.
Doll🌸:
i was dreaming about you.
Doll🌸:
we were cuddled up in bed, you pulled me closer to your chest, placing soft kisses on my shoulder, it felt so real James, I cried when I woke up.
Doll🌸:
You’re it for me James Bucky Barnes.
Tumblr media
Bucky’s breath hitches at your simple sentence. Lungs and throat aching to scream at the universe for being cruel to keep you both apart. He wishes he could pull you into his arms and kiss you so deeply that you feel him against your lips months later.
Bucky🌻:
You’re it for me too, Y/N Doll Y/LN.
Doll🌸 sent a voice note.
Bucky plays it, your voice cracks slightly and he knows you’ve been crying. He can’t help but keep pressing play on the note, emailing himself to keep it safe.
“You’re it for me, James Bucky Barnes.” Your soft voice croons, “I love you so much, people told me I had a big heart, I think it is so to hold the love I have for you. I love you.”
He sets the phone down, wiping his own dampened cheeks. When he tries to speak his voice cracks. It always takes him by surprise how raw with emotion he becomes, then his father’s words haunt him.
Bucky pushes those thoughts away. He wasn’t weak, it was okay to be vulnerable and express emotions. You always appreciated him being able to share all his facets with you.
He drinks water, trying to clear his throat before he can send you a voice note as well. When he listens back to it, you would know he cried as well.
“Fuck,” Bucky mutters this is an emotionally charged day.
Bucky🌻 sent a voice note.
He waits for your reply, but eyes Tony coming on his way over. He leaves you a quick message about the same so you don’t worry over why he disappeared mid conversation.
Tony harbours a look of pure calm, which only means there is rage inside. Bucky stands, moving to the conference room for privacy and Tony gives a curt nod of acknowledgment.
Inside Bucky waits while Tony paces trying to articulate himself without losing his absolute mind.
“Do you know Hammer Tech, Barnes?” Tony exhales and turns to face him.
“I used to do their back end work, it was third party so never had a direct connection but their pay sucked and working conditions as well.” Bucky’s lips curl into a grimace at the memory.
“Hmm, shitty employee treatment aside,” Tony sits on the head chair, “Have you been sharing sensitive information?”
Bucky’s eyes widen, “Tony, respectfully what the fuck?”
“They have stolen our entire idea, for the bionic arm.” Tony narrows his eyes at Bucky.
“And you think I gave out the information?” Bucky feels his chest constrict he’d never do anything like this, never.
“Barnes, I—, fuck.” Tony presses the palms of his hands over his eyes.
Bucky just stares at the man, baffled.
“Fuck, okay, look, I apologise, sincerely.” Tony looks at Bucky, whose expression is now stoic.
“I had a look at their design and workings. Its bang on ours. The interns wouldn’t do it, their vetted by their universities. Which leaves the employees I assigned to the said project.” Tony explains and deflates.
“I really am sorry Barnes, I just, that fucker always tries to push me to my brink.” Tony sighs yet again.
“Have you checked my records? Other team member records?” Bucky responds cooly.
“I did, it’s all clean.” Tony runs a hand down his face.
“And you still came up to accuse me? Why? Because I left the trial mid way?” Bucky wills himself not to lose his cool, not to turn this into a screaming match.
“To be honest I did this whole accusation thing with everyone.” Tony admits, sheepishly.
“Because you have a flair for the dramatic.” Bucky shrugs, lips twitching at the humour.
“Please, who even am I without the drama?” Tony smirks, leaning back in the chair.
“That was a very asshole move of you.” Bucky finally sits in the chair.
“I’m sorry man. This, everything, it’s like I’m going to crumble.” The man who probably has everything sighs.
“I can understand.” The feeling is all too familiar.
“I really am sorry, Barnes. Your one of my best people, honestly trust you more than a family member.” Tony admits and Bucky feels his throat lace with emotion again.
“Plus I have Morgan’s approval.” Bucky jokes to ease the tension, Tony cracks a genuine smile and the soldier feels that this is a win.
“Don’t tell her I accused you.” Tony chuckles.
“Oh please, I am telling her and then suing you for emotional stress. She’s going to be the judge for the case” Bucky laughs.
“Jeez one more lawsuit, ease up a lil Barnes. God if she becomes a lawyer she will be ruthless.” Pride shines in the father’s eyes.
Bucky smiles, he never expected Tony Stark to be the doting father he is, but damn he’s seen big investors meetings rearranged for dance recitals, plays and picnics.
“Sorry no can do, I need the money.” He jokes.
“How are things in paradise?” Tony smiles when Bucky’s gaze softens as he thinks about you.
“Today is sort of well, not one of the good ones, missing each other too much.” He admits, this fingertips tapping on the glass.
“What about the meeting? Any date set?” Tony knew because even the incognito search history revealed flight dates that Barnes was seeing.
“Her visa didn’t come through, so I’m thinking of you know, surprising her for Christmas. Well thats cause we have holidays then so…” He shrugs it was still preliminary he needed to sort several things before he could travel.
Alpine’s ability to travel and if not then either asking his mum to care for her, there was also the question of how long would he be with you, because goddamn the thought of returning without you pierced his heart in the worst way.
Bucky thought back to Hammer Tech stealing to avoid breaking down again.
“Wait, how did they steal? Every part of ours is patented.” Bucky recalls, Tony shakes his head, a bitter smile on his face.
“The asshat changed several cosmetic enhancements, some proprietary paint of his to colour the arm to the user, I can’t find anything on the internal mechanism.” Tony’s hands ball into fists, then he extends his fingers as he realises something.
Bucky’s brows furrow when the shorter man stands.
“Follow me.” Is all Tony says before rushing out, Bucky quickly follows suit.
Tony heads towards the elevators with whatever epiphany dawned upon him and honestly Bucky wonders how the man is faster than him.
Sharon’s voice makes him pause, “Yeah, no, he’s accused everyone. Including idiotic Barnes.” Her office door is ajar by an inch but the frosted glass prevents his recognition.
“Barnes!” Tony bellows from inside the open elevator. Bucky contemplates, just a snippet wouldn’t give him proof of his doubts. He decides against it and continues forward towards Tony.
Tumblr media
Natasha walks beside you, classes had ended. Your stomach rumbles and Nat gives you a pointed look.
“What?” You wince at the cramp.
“I know your lunch date went haywire and eventually cancelled but you can eat you know.” Nat gives a pointed glare you turn away.
“I’ll eat at home, I just want to lay down.” You exhale, day one and two were never in your favour.
“Y/N.” Natasha would probably pull your ear and drag you to the cafeteria if it hadn’t already shut.
A black Mercedes stops in front of you two. Nat raises a brow as the window lowers down.
Your hand tightens around Nat’s and she will commit murder. Quentin Beck gives a charming smile that would have people swooning but you two know better.
“Natasha, as radiant as ever.” He grins, you would vomit on him.
“Beck, I see you’re still roaming as if you own everything in sight.” Natasha sneers. He only laughs, the fake-ness of it reverberates the air.
“Why are you here?” You question, he was supposed to be galavanting with his other rich friends who were equally obnoxious.
“Well, I was at home, your mom was worried about you and I offered to pick you up.” He explains with a shrug.
“She’s coming along with me.” Nat interjects with a glare.
Quentin looks at you, lowering his sunglasses, “I know you aren’t well, come on, we’ll get ice cream on the way.” He proposes and you want to know what ulterior motives exist.
Nat looks at you worried, “Are you going with him?” The unspoken conversation goes on as you both weigh out pros and cons.
Your phone rings and Natasha scoffs, looking at Quentin as you answer the phone.
“What?” He raises his hands in defence and she only continues to glare at him.
“Y/N.” Your dad’s voice greets.
“Yes, Dad?” You have to bite your tongue to keep the respect in your tone.
“Quentin is on his way to pick you up, the driver had to be sent for my work, and your mother says you are unwell.” He states, doesn’t ask how are you feeling? or worries just states facts.
“Yes he is here.” You inform.
“Very well, call me from the car I have to discuss something private with him.”
“You can call him…” You want to mope and throw a fit but with the way you feel like crap you want to just give up. Can Bucky just pop up and pull you into his lap and keep you away from this bullshit?
You pause for five seconds to allow the universe to do her thing, but your dad’s fed up tone lacing with your name irks you instead.
“Yes I’m getting into the car.” You inform and look at Nat, mouthing to her that you would text her.
“Take care and be careful.” She mouths back and you give her a flying kiss which she reciprocates.
Quentin welcomes you with a smile as you sit in the car and then raises a brow to Nat in defiance. Her eyes narrow further, she needs to ask Bucky to expedite his surprise.
Quentin pulls onto the road and you hand your phone to him, he puts it on speaker and your dad and him greet each other as though talking after ages. Instead of hours.
There is nothing private about the talk as they consider stock market options and your dad quizes him about banking things.
The call ends and you text Bucky and Nat respectively about your whereabouts. To Bucky you most demand for extra cuddles as punishment. You know it’s useless but complaining and whining today just makes you feel slightly better.
Quentin pulls into one of the restaurants your families frequented and you remember playing hide and seek in the main lobby with him. You also remember the huge round pillar where you had your first kiss with him and also the very pillar where you stood and had your heartbroken.
“Why are we here?” You ask as the valets open your doors. You step out thanking the valet.
“For lunch, and ice cream, you used to love their chocolate chip one.” He shrugs waiting for you and holds out his hand.
You walk up the familiar steps without his help.
The hostess seats you at the table you always wanted to sit upon, it rested on a step higher than the remaining seats and had a canopy decorated with flowers.
“I remember you wanted to always sit here.” He comments taking a sip of water.
“I did.” Your replies are clipped and Quentin sighs.
“Look, I know I fucked up,”
“Happy realisation, would you like a certificate? I can make one on Canva.” You seethe.
“Little Princess.” His expression doesn’t change at your glare.
“I want to make amends.” He admits, sincerely gazing at you.
“Too late.” You settle back into the chair as the waiter places your orders in front of you both.
“Thank you.” You both say in unison before a silence takes over as you begin eating.
“Look, I just want my friend back, I want to right my wrongs.” He says, you raise a brow at him mid bite.
“I know how it sounds but please, I want you as a part of my life.” Quentin places his hand upon yours, interlacing your fingers. You look at him and he has tears in his eyes.
“Are you doing this for some ulterior motive or are you genuinely wanting to repair things?” You pull your hand away, waiting in response.
“Genuinely. I miss you. Not even in the sense of our relationship but as my friend, you were my best friend.” Quentin smiles in remembrance of the friendship the two of you had, children of fathers who were too busy working and trying to climb success’ ladder.
“Quentin, I don’t think we can be how we were…” You trail of, sipping water as your eyes burn with tears. So much was lost and changed.
“I know, I… I pretty much turned into who I told you I would never be.” He admits and somewhere in your heart you feel empathy for him.
“Quentin,”
“Look, all I want is forgiveness and maybe a fresh start friendship. Only if you want.” He puts the ball in your court.
“I don’t know how to trust you.” You fiddle with the hem of the table cloth, eyes averted.
“I want to earn it back.” He says making you look towards him.
Quentin rises from his chair, circling around to cup your cheek as he had the day he came into your room. Your eyes meet his blue ones.
“Don’t you miss me, little princess?” Quentin questions, eyes holding something you can’t decipher.
“I used too, but you never wanted me did you?” You say, he leaves your skin. Defeat pulling at his shoulders.
“I was young and foolish.” He admits, “I haven’t forgiven myself for making you cry, for hurting you. Even if you forgive me I won’t.” He sits back in his chair.
“Quentin, she was everything I’m not, it was as if you used everything I told you hurt me. It was not easy for me, but maybe I could be more civil towards you?” You offer, you were in a better place, you have Bucky a man better than any man you ever came with in contact.
“I’d like that.” He smiles, you smile back.
The bowls of ice cream are brought onto the table. He hands you a spoon.
“To becoming civil.” He raises a spoonful of ice cream, you do the same.
“To becoming civil.” You repeat.
Tumblr media
“So tell me about your boyfriend.” Quentin asks, turning civil had been a point which had the two of you speaking a little more freely. He told you all about his escapades across America during college, he took a year off to join up his dad since he had a heart ailment.
“What about James?” You raise a brow.
“What does he do? Does he treat your right?” Quentin shrugs.
“He’s a software developer/coder at Stark Industries in New York City, ex military, Sergeant rank, special skills trained. He treats me the way I deserve to be treated.” You speak with a proud smile.
Quentin shakes his head but smiles at you, then focuses back on the road.
“What?” You ask.
“No just, I can see he makes you happy. Its nice to see someone not fucking up as I had.” He looks at you at the stoplight.
“Do you love him?”
“I do.” You verbalise easily, loving Bucky is as easy as breathing. You look at your phone, no messages yet, you reread the last message from him.
Bucky🌻:
Hey Doll, there is some trouble here, the second I get a free moment, I’ll call or update you, but for a few days I think it will be haywire.
I love you, I’ll text you as soon as I can, be careful around that asshat, i don’t trust his intentions.
I love you.
“I’m glad you found him.” Quentin admits and pulls the car into your apartment building.
He doesn’t follow when you get out of the car, sending your driver away when he arrives to take the car off of his hands.
“I have some work,” He explains coming to stand near you, “Thank you for today, I feel better than I did.”
He opens his arms and you look up at him,
“One hug?” He requests and you open your arms. Quentin closes the space between you two, pulling you into a hug familiar from childhood days.
His hands move over your curves, you stiffen.
“Quentin—,” You try to pull away.
“Just as I remember. I’m sorry.” He breathes, voice hoarse. Hands move away to wrap around you.
“Quentin, this is not comfort—,”
He pulls away, but places a kiss to your cheek.
“Sorry, I just, I found our toddler time picture this morning and it was of me kissing your cheek.” He pulls it up on his phone, your gaze softens as you see your childhood self. Happy.
“Well I’ll be on my way, thanks for today again, little princess.” He says and waves jogging back to the driver’s side.
You swallow and turn back to the lobby door, entering. When you set your bag down, you look into the mirror. Your mind brings forth the picture of your younger happier self.
You gaze into your eyes then over your body, every dip, crevice, curve that would have you aching to look away. Today was a day you could look at yourself without thoughts crossing your mind.
You smile and your reflection mimics you, and you can see the happiness in your eyes too.
Tumblr media
Bucky feels bile rise up in his throat.
He would have not opened the very spam looking email, but it was in his inbox with attachments.
The subject is what drew him in, two words; your name.
He hated that curiosity got the better of him. He hated how the email was getting the better of him.
Then Natasha’s text burns behind his closed eyelids.
Natasha:
Beck is upto something. I know Y/N said you’re busy but something is amiss, keep your eyes open and head centred.
“Barnes.” Tony draws his eyes away from the laptop screen.
The mogul raises an eyebrow, Bucky nods.
“Just give me one minute.” Bucky says, Tony nods, closing the office door on his way out.
Bucky clenches his teeth. A whirlwind of thoughts swirl his mind.
He nods to himself, tapping away on the search bar. Emailing Natasha his flight details he keeps the visa tab open for perusal post his meeting with Tony.
Bucky grabs his iPad, and walks towards the elevators to go up to Tony’s lawyer team floor. It had been two days since your outing with Beck and he was honestly expecting something from the asshole. Definitely not non consented to pictures as if taken by paparazzi and sent to him to let him stew in jealousy.
If Quentin was out for ruining things, Bucky would fight tooth and nail.
He’d get to deck Quentin Beck in his face, right on his mouth the very mouth that had ordered someone to take photos to manipulate things between the two of you.
Also the mouth that placed a kiss on your cheek but that will be a separate punch.
The elevator opens to the law floor filled rapid tapping and pages being turned. Bucky walks towards the conference room as he spots the sign for it.
“Barnes, you were right.” Tony says as he enters.
“I usually tend to be.” He chuckles at Tony’s eye roll.
“His patent covers even the internal mechanism so we will know who is the leak. Since I constructed each internal system of each prosthetic differently.” Tony grins clapping his hands excited.
Bucky has a guess on the tip of his tongue. Peter shuffles beside him and Bucky raises a brow.
Peter shifts a small paper towards Bucky, in his neat handwriting,
‘We should tell him about Rumlow’s mounting plate.’
Bucky nods, his guess was the very man.
“Listen Tony….”
“Mr. Stark…”
“You both look as if you both are stressed out and are about to see the devil in hell.” Tony’s laugh dies as he looks between the two.
Peter begins rambling and Bucky adds the forgotten points in the middle. The room grows quiet. Too quiet and Tony’s jaw ticks.
“Peter go out.” Bucky says calmly.
“But Mr. Barnes—,”
“Listen to him, Underoos.” Tony implores and Peter scrambles out while apologising profusely.
“Now, Barnes. What the fuck?” Tony bellows and his entire team flinches. Bucky remains unaffected. Pressing his lips into a thin line he takes an inhale then exhales.
He pulls up the email from Brock and shows it to the team and Tony.
“The entire wiring was different… we fixed it to the original but, I think Rumlow is the leak.” Bucky speaks calmly trying to stay composed as Tony’s breathing grows erratic.
“Did you take pictures? Because we need proof.” Tony questions, Bucky nods and Peter pops his hand in holding up his own iPad with the picture folder open.
“Parker.” Tony groans, “Just come back in and stop spying.”
Peter scrambles in again and sits down next to Bucky. Who pats the young intern on his back.
“I didn't want to disappoint you.” Peter mumbles and Tony shakes his head.
“Kid, you never could. Just don’t hold information from me alright?” Tony reaches over ruffling the boy’s hair affectionately, Peter groans muttering how it took him a while to style it.
Which only prompts Bucky to also do the same much to Peter’s chagrin.
“So now what? Bucky questions the lawyers who were silent.
“We build a case.” One of them answers, wearing a pair of tinted glasses, Bucky recognises the man.
“You’re Matt Murdock right?” Peter confirms and Matt gives him a smile of affirmation.
“Its good to finally meet you Mr. Barnes.” Matt comments.
“Likewise, I’ve heard your name in the news a lot. You’ve done a great deal of work.” Bucky praises.
“You’re too kind. Thank you for your service.” Matt offers an unwavering smile.
Bucky’s throat constricts, “It was my duty.” He waits for the images of active duty blooming to take over, when they don’t Bucky exhales, feeling himself relax.
“I also have reason to believe Brock Rumlow isn’t alone.” Matt states.
“Another traitor? Fire HR.” Tony grumbles and Matt shakes his head.
“We need to smoke them out Tony.” Bucky says, “I think we should do it via Brock.”
“I may have an idea.” Peter pipes up, Tony gives him a pointed stare.
“It isn’t a movie reference…” Peter’s cheeks tinge red in embarrassment.
“Go on kiddo, tell us the plan.” Bucky grins, as Peter opens up a PowerPoint Presentation on his iPad.
“You were planning this?” Tony questions, absolutely gobsmacked at the details on the first slide itself.
“Mr. Murdock, I have the file on a thumb-drive incase you prefer your screenreader?” Peter looks towards the lawyer.
“No worries kid, I’d rather hear you speak than the robot.” Matt laughs and Peter chuckles.
Bucky looks at how much his name is popping up in the plan, the dates of the tickets he booked weigh heavy on his chest. He hopes this is resolved before he has to fly out to you.
