Visually stunning is a way that we can certainly describe the animation in the Netflix show The Dragon Prince. So visually stunning in fact that it seems commonplace to immortalize the beauty of the show within such internet pop culture icons as the Gif. Most of my Gifs that I created portray stunning scenes from the show, but also the character Aaravos quite often. I find this particular character to have not only an interesting back story, but a beautiful design that is one to envy amongst character and concept designers.  The usage of the Gif in this case is meant to convey the awe and mysticism that the show presents. I am inspired by the action and luminosity of the animators. These Gifs are meant to represent that inspiration I find in such stunning and compelling images.

Title: Moves with or without you
I want my message to focus on personal and somewhat of a social issue, based on how our society is run and the fast-paced movement of the world. My inspiration for this work was focused on the passage of time and how the world is constantly moving regardless of if you’re in motion yourself. The story behind this is how during this pandemic everyone is still trying to move on and continue living under these situations. I have some personal feelings related to this just because, during this pandemic, it's been an emotionally trying time but life continues on. I want viewers to see themselves in this piece and be able to relate to what we’re experiencing during these tough times. My overarching goal as an artist is to make people take a step back and see think twice about things and maybe even think a third time to analyze. There is never just one answer to anything, so finding multiple aspects of concepts is important to see. This work will tie into other work I created by pushing that once more that idea of how our society is so quick and fast-paced when it comes to living. It’s important to take a step back and realize that with or without you the world will always keep trying to press. Even in times like these.

Project 2: Vanishing and Becoming
Psychedelic Gates
I wanted to create a video that seemed one thing and then became another. I found this video, originally set to calming music, designed to bring down anxiety and tension. As I watched the original, I realized it was hypnotizing and relaxing. I decided to change the sound to change the mood of the piece from calm and relaxing, to tension building, even anxiety producing. I sped up the video when the music hits its crescendo to create this tension between the viewer and the video.

This was helpful, entertaining, and full of passion. This is what I want from my art teachers. When I was introduced to fractal patterns, the professor really missed the math component.
Spread the word.
Math is always appreciated in art but is considerably a strong way to build fractals, follow the golden ratio, and build proper linear perspective.

“I don’t want the next generation to fight the same fight as I did” -aiww
Throughout Ai Wei Wei: Never Sorry I could not help but admire the artist's persistent optimism. The way he smiles and carries an air of joy despite the constant battle he is fighting is an act of defiance in itself. The Chinese government tries to (literally) beat him into complacency, but he continues to inspire people with his pursuit for the truth and transparency. I think the way he draws in and influences others is a very big part of his art. I see his works as community projects. Every person helping create and spread his message reflects a desire to make things better, in my opinion.

PROJECT 2: SUPER CUT VIDEO
Many women put their sense of beauty within their hair. Hair means a lot to some women and if it’s not ‘right’ then they don’t feel beautiful. My video ‘Own it’ shows multiple women with multiple hair types, and styles owning their hair. The process women go through to upkeep what they love is commemorable. it does’t matter what is done to your hair whether you're bare scalped or have colorful locks, as long as you own it and you're content that's all that matters. After all it is just hair. It'll grow back. And, if for some reason it can't just own it. Confidence in oneself matters more than hair.

Embracing a Wider Framework for Art Production
I have spent a lot of time on The Art Assignment this semester, for my art education course. I based one of my Unit Lesson Plans off of this video, Imaginary Friend. I chose to continue with this assignment because I truly believe that art teachers should do the work that they are also expecting their students to do. At the end of the video, the artist JooYoung Choi, provides three ways to create your new imaginary friend. I chose to take two of my favorite animals, the sloth and the platypus, and create my new creature. Meet Norbert, the Slothapus.
Choi also talks about how she has made many of her puppets and characters based on feelings that she and others were experiencing. For example, Bernadette was created to eat up feelings of despair and loneliness. I really like that idea of creating a character out of emotions, especially emotions that we don’t know what to do with. In my lesson plan, I had my students do this to some extent. Because I will be an art teacher, I figured I should do the same thing that I am asking my students to do. I created Norbert to be a comforting presence. During this time of isolation and frustration, and not being able to even touch people, Norbert is here to bring comfort and joy, and encourage that inner child to resurface to help you find things to do (not on a screen) during this time where people are feeling incredibly bored and closed off from the world.
Why a sloth and a platypus? I liked sloths before they were “the animal to like,” and over the years I have received sloth stuff from friends and family. When I was younger, I always loved the platypus. They were just so weird, and seemed like something made out of spare parts. While I was creating Norbert, I kept asking myself, why these two animals? Why was I so drawn to them. I think because both these animals are such anomalies. Neither quite fit into any category: is the sloth a monkey or a lemur or a bear? is the platypus a duck or a mammal? You just don’t really know as a kid. I like that you cannot put either animal into a box, they are unique and weird, and only unique and weird people can truly appreciate them.
Norbert is created out of old pillow cases, polyester cluster fiber fill, and buttons for eyes. He is incredibly soft and huggable. This was my first time sewing a creature, so he is a little lopsided and frayed, which makes him all the more endearing to me.
