Returnal is a title I initially glanced over, dismissing it as yet another boring action game. How wrong I was. I loved every single moment of the playthrough and found myself coming back for more.⁣ ⁣ The first thing that stood out is the phenomenal sound design. From the dark, pulsing, anxiety inducing music which swells as combat builds intensity, to the punchy, otherworldly weapon blasts, experiencing this with a strong sound system or headphones is an absolute pleasure.⁣ ⁣ I’ve played my share of roguelikes in the past and this is one of the most brutal imo. It pulls zero punches and requires one to be laser focused. Enemy encounter combinations can be downright evil and it’s imperative to eliminate hostiles asap. In addition, the environment and other hazards will easily take large swathes of your meager health bar. Bosses and Elites will test both your reaction times and complete understanding of the game mechanics. Do not get attached to your current run, ever. In mere moments, it can be ended.⁣ ⁣ Visually, Returnal oozes style. Colors, lighting, textures and set pieces are remarkable and I spent many moments rotating the camera around taking it all in.⁣ ⁣ The soundtrack is top notch. I cannot nitpick a single track. All of them are ethereal, haunting, mysterious and daunting. The combat themes in all their permutations are exquisite. ⁣ ⁣ Thematically the story in Returnal is both intriguing and unnerving. Each playthrough dives deeper into Selene’s past to uncover the truth. I particularly enjoyed both the audio logs and first person segments.⁣ ⁣ If you’re a fan of challenging roguelikes, fast paced, quick thinking action and extremely smooth, responsive and rewarding gameplay, you owe it to yourself to play Returnal. Soon to be released for PC too!⁣ ⁣ #digitalthoughts #returnal #housemarque #sony #ps5 #roguelike #psychologicalhorror #3Dspatialaudio #schmup #bullethell #video games #gaming #instagaming #timeloop #backlog #4k #4k60 #dualsense https://www.instagram.com/p/CnK6cRxSZrj/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I saw your twt post promoting rift apart and followed by another post saying its steam deck verified and now im curious, when you get a new pc release, do you try it out on steam deck right away (or after trying it on desktop) to see if it run good? I always find it really exciting to see how far I can push a brand new game on steam deck to get it to run the 40-60 range. Especially if it comes out with an unknown status.
It depends on the game but I usually try it on desktop first! My rig is like.... pretty damn great, and I'm an absolute sucker for gorgeous games, so what I like to do is boot up a new game and see if I can get it running as smooth and beautifully as possible while sitting below 70-80% GPU usage. If a game is more graphically intensive I'll often just lock it to 60 cause my GPU can usually handle 4K60 like a dream at very low GPU utilization percentages if the game is optimized well enough and/or if it has DLSS.
BUT if I buy a game in which my main intent is to play portable on Steam Deck, I'll try it there first and make sure that's my first experience with it so if I ever decide to play on desktop for a bit it doesn't feel like a downgrade going back to Deck! That's what I did with Persona 4 and it worked out awesomely.

The self righteousness of the “just emulate it” crowd in chat yesterday was astounding, it just strikes me as very entitled I suppose.
Yeah, I don't know, it's extremely cool that emulation exists, I've loved it for decades. But any time current, commercial products are getting emulated it immediately attracts the shittiest crowd imaginable. People were absolute garbage back in the day as they demanded that MAME support Neo Geo games that were still coming out. Pokemon support is probably still the bane of any GB/GBA/DS/3DS emulator author. And now we just have Switch games in general bringing impatient jack-offs out of the woodwork.
The other thing is "did you know that if you break all this encryption and play this game in a really weird way it might run better while also having just enough graphical glitches to make the experience a little weird" is incredibly uninteresting as, like, someone who has been covering this industry for this long. It's way more interesting to see how well it runs on Nintendo's actual old-ass hardware because that's how the overwhelming majority of users will see it. Reports on emulation performance are a sentence, at best. It's "hey, Metroid sure does run well at 4K60, that's neat" and not much else. Yay.
People acting like coverage of the game's performance on actual hardware isn't relevant because "you can just emulate it" are pretty fucking stupid.

I remember years ago you posted your Dolphin control profiles for Secret Rings (and maybe Black Knight?) but Tumblr's search function is awful and I cannot find them anymore, so I was wondering if you still had them on you?
Not so sure I ever did Black Knight (though maybe I did), but I did do this for Secret Rings, because I used them with this video:
youtube
It's possible I did Black Knight, because I intended on doing a follow-up to this video with Black Knight at 4K60 and never got around to it.
But, bare minimum, good news! I link an imgur album with the Secret Rings control setup images in the description for the above video.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dolphin's control configuration menu looks a lot different these days but it's probably not impossible to translate things across. Looking in Dolphin now, I haven't updated my controls for the new menu, so they're exactly like they appear here still, just in the new interface.
That being said, I do seem to have settings for Black Knight in here, and I used them as recently as the Sonic Frontiers video review, because I captured Black Knight footage for that. So here are those:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I realize these aren't all the available tabs, but the ones I skipped have been left blank. It also looks like some of these buttons are bound to Dualshock 4 buttons and some are bound to Xbox buttons, which is probably a hold over of Black Knight's profile being built from Secret Rings (or some other game, I guess).
It's a bit of a mess! But it's all I have for you, sorry.
Edit: To help out a bit...
The Hat: This is the D-pad.
Button 1 is Square, 2 is Cross, 3 is Circle, 4 is Triangle.
Button 5 is L1, Button 6 is R1.
Button 9 is Capture, Button 10 is Options.
Button 8 seems to light up if I pull the R trigger? That doesn't seem right, but maybe it is.
"Full Axis Xr" and "Full Axis Yr" are the triggers. X seems to be left, Y seems to be right.
"Right Y+" seems to be a leftover from the Xbox controller and isn't used for Black Knight.
Instead, "Axis Z" seems to be the right stick. Zr for up and down, Z for left and right, I guess?
The rest are Xbox holdovers and don't matter in Black Knight.

Did I ever talk about my love for Tekken? There was this post about games you played for more than 300 hours, and after GTA VC and LCS... it would definitely be Tekken 5 and 6 for me.
Anyway, my Tekken brainrot laid dormant deep inside of me for most of my teenage years and early adulthood. To be honest I entirely skipped Tekken 7 due to its performance on my PC at the time and its reliance on DLCs. I did manage to beat Tekken 4 in 2023 (the only one I've been missing until 7, but I quickly went back to not thinking about the franchise at all. That was the case until Tekken 8 demo dropped.
I downloaded it and played for a bit, not understanding what's going on story-wise at all, but instantly falling in love with its fluid 4k60 gameplay and new Nina design (she was always my main after all). It made me hungry for more Tekken and when I was talking about it with my s/o, I just had to check whether Tekken 7 finally received a 60fps patch on Xbox Series X. It didn't, but I ended up buying it anyway to satisfy my hunger for the franchise.
Played it a bit, finished the story and overall I had fun with it. I wasn't really satisfied with the story mode, but the gameplay was pleasant enough. I liked some of the new characters and overall it felt like a fulfilling return to the brainrot. That's what I thought before finding out that Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is backwards compatible on Series X.
I ordered a physical copy and instantly got hyped. I wanted to play it since its release but it costed so much at the time... and after some time I forgot about it, probably due to GTA V coming out. Flash forward a few days, I received my copy and ran back to my house to play as much as I can before my night shift starts.
You gotta understand - it was and still is the ultimate Tekken game for me, mostly due to how many characters it has. I played every mainline Tekken game (and Tag Tournament) before playing TTT2 and to play as Jun, Michelle, Violet, Ogre and Kunimitsu in one game meant a lot to me - I really appreciate OG Tekken characters, even though Tekken 3 and 5 are my favorite entries. If I was to talk here about how much grind in Tekken 5/6 I endured to make certain characters look like the OGs, this post would end up being insufferably long.
Many story-based games take up all my time and attention but I'm still playing it and I'm really close to getting all the endings. I set most levels to have my favorite tracks form older Tekken games and I'm especially enjoying my time with Jun, Kunimitsu and Michelle.
Now that fighting games are one of the most anti-consumer genres in modern gaming, a few years will pass before I'll get Tekken 8. I'd have to spend $100+ on ultimate edition, only to wait years for all of its content to arrive anyway. And since a month after its release they started introducing shops and battle passes, my enthusiasm got tempered even more.
But I'm so happy to be back and Tekken 7 and Tag Tournament 2 (and the older ones) will do it for now! Especially TTT2, it's really a blast!

RØDE created the all-in-one podcasting console category with the original RØDECaster Pro in 2018 and, since its release in 2022, the RØDECaster Pro II has been praised as the most powerful audio production console of its kind. The RØDECaster Duo will continue this legacy, delivering everything that users have come to love about its sibling in a more compact footprint – perfect for creators that require fewer audio inputs but don’t want to compromise on audio quality.
PODMIC USB
The PodMic USB is an ultra-versatile, broadcast-grade dynamic microphone for podcasting, streaming and content creation. It offers the same incredible sound quality and compact yet rugged form factor as the best-selling PodMic, with a powerful new feature up its sleeve: XLR and USB connectivity.
Fresh off the back of the release of the NT1 5th Generation – the world’s first studio condenser to offer both XLR and USB connectivity – this incredible feature has now been added to the PodMic. When using the analog XLR output, the PodMic USB is exactly the same as the original, albeit with a sleek new finish and studio-grade pop filter. When using the digital USB output, it offers a range of next-generation features that make it super flexible, including a Revolution Preamp and high-quality analog-to-digital conversion for pristine audio capture, advanced DSP for adding professional APHEX voice processing to any recording, and compatibility with smartphones and tablets for use on the go. It also features a zero-latency headphone output and on-board volume control and is compatible with the complete RØDE software suite, including RØDE Central, RØDE Connect, RØDE Capture and UNIFY, making it the most versatile microphone ever.
RØDECASTER BACKPACK
The Backpack is a custom-designed carry bag for the RØDECaster series, including the RØDECaster Pro, RØDECaster Pro II, and RØDECaster Duo. Made from high-quality materials, including a soft, durable Alcantara® handle, ballistic nylon straps and water-resistant exterior, it is rugged and hard-wearing. It can accommodate a RØDECaster Pro, Pro II or Duo, plus microphones, studio arms and other accessories, as well as laptops up to 16 inches. Ergonomic adjustable shoulder straps with back and chest support ensure absolute comfort, with exterior pockets and compartments providing additional storage.
WIRELESS GO II CHARGING CASE
The Charge Case is a handy charging case for the Wireless GO II. CES 2023: MediaTek Shows Off Latest in Wi-Fi and IoT Tech
Tumblr media
The new year has finally arrived, and we’re getting a load of awesome tech to go along with it. As such, MediaTek has announced several new technologies ahead of the Consumer Electronics Showcase (CES) 2023 in Las Vegas, and they bring some promising new advancements for Wi-Fi and smart home technology. Let’s take a look! Genio 700 Platform To kick things off, the company announced its latest addition to its Genio platform for IoT devices, which aims to bring improvements to smart home and smart retail tech, to name a couple. In particular, the series’ MediaTek Genio 700 is an octa-core chipset designed for just this purpose, featuring two ARM A78 cores running at 2.2GHz and six ARM A55 cores at 2.0GHz while providing 4.0 TOPs AI accelerator. It also comes with support for FHD60+4K60 display, as well as an ISP for better images. According to Richard Lu, Vice President of MediaTek IoT Business Unit: “When we launched the Genio family of IoT products last year, we designed the platform with the scalability and development support that brands need, paving the way for opportunities to continue expanding. With a focus on industrial and smart home products, the Genio 700 is a perfect natural addition to the lineup to ensure we can provide the widest range of support possible to our customers.” The Genio 700 SDK will allow designers to customize products using Yocto Linux, Ubuntu, and Android. With this support, customers can easily develop their own products with a minimal amount of effort, regardless of application type. Additionally, the chipset will have support for high-speed interfaces, including PCIe 2.0, USB 3.2 Gen1 and MIPI-CSI interface for cameras, Dual-Display support including FHD60+4K60 with AV1, VP9, H.265 and H.264 (video decode) support, industrial grade design and wide temp with 10 years longevity, ARM SystemReady certification for providing a standard and easy way to integrate the platform, as well as ARM PSA certification for increased security. The Genio 700 will be commercially available in Q2 2023. Wi-Fi 7 Ecosystem MediaTek also unveiled its new Wi-Fi 7 ecosystem, making it one of the first adopters of the fastest Wi-Fi tech available right now. The company says that this new breakthrough is the result of investing into Wi-Fi 7 technology, aimed at improving always-on connected user experiences for use across smart devices, streaming products, residential gateways, and more. As per Alan Hsu, MediaTek’s corporate vice president and general manager of the Intelligent Connectivity Business unit: “Last year, we gave the world’s first Wi-Fi 7 technology demonstration, and we are honored to now show the significant progress we have made in building a more complete ecosystem of products. This lineup of devices, many of which are powered by the CES 2023 Innovation Award-winning Filogic 880 flagship chipset, illustrates our commitment to providing the best wireless connectivity.” To put it simply, Wi-Fi 7 uses r320MHz channel bandwidth and 4096-QAM modulation to improve overall speeds and user experience. Multi-Link Operation (MLO) also enables Wi-Fi connections to aggregate channel speeds and greatly reduce link interruption in congested environments. MediaTek’s Wi-Fi 7 solution uses a 6nm process, which reduces power consumption by 50%, a 25x reduction in CPU utilization, and 100x lower MLO switch latency. 4T5R and penta-band mesh are also included to address a larger area of coverage and higher number of linked devices. The company also demoed several devices which use its latest Filogic chips, combining Wi-Fi 7 access point technology to broadband operators, retail router channels and enterprise markets. In particular, MediaTek’s Filogic 380 chipset is designed to bring Wi-Fi 7 connectivity to all client devices, including TVs, smart devices, and computers. With that said, MediaTek’s push to innovate and integrate Wi-Fi 7 technology was met with much praise, particularly from its partners including AMD, Lenovo, ASUS, TP-Link, BUFFALO LINK, Korea Telecom, Hisense, Skyworks, Qorvo, Litepoint, and NI. MediaTek x Federated Wireless Additionally, MediaTek has also been working with Federated Wireless in successfully completing interoperability testing for Automated Frequency Coordination (AFC) on MediaTek Filogic Wi-Fi 7 and Wi-Fi 6E chips. For those unfamiliar with the term, AFC systems allow for standard power operation for indoor and outdoor unlicensed devices, including 5G CPEs, fiber gateways, and ethernet gateways, to transmit over 850 MHz of spectrum in the 6 GHz frequency band. This improves range for Wi-Fi products, as well as faster connectivity speeds and improved capacity, which comes into play alongside the arrival of Wi-Fi 7 technology. According to Alan Hsu, MediaTek’s corporate vice president of Connectivity: “Our leadership in Wi-Fi technology would not be complete without ensuring our customers have easy access to AFC solutions. We are very happy to partner with Federated Wireless and to have finished an extensive series of integration testing. Our Filogic Wi-Fi 7 and 6E chips, including the CES 2023 Innovation Award-winning Filogic 880, will soon support Standard Power operation in the 6GHz spectrum for companies producing Wi-Fi devices.”  The aforementioned AFC interoperability testing consisted of a set of positive and negative tests drawn from the Wi-Fi Alliance (WFA) AFC System certification specification.  The positive tests included verifying the proper AFC calculation and response of spectrum availability at several locations, while the negative tests included verifying proper AFC System error handling. Kurt Schaubach, chief technology officer at Federated Wireless states: “We are proud to partner with MediaTek to perform these critical interoperability tests to ensure that the commercial industry is ready for standard power device operations to begin. Federated Wireless prides itself on being a premier collaborator with our partners and customers interested in spectrum sharing solutions.” The completion of these tests will allow customers to use Federated Wireless’ AFC system on MediaTek Filogic Wi-Fi 7 and 6E chips (upon full approval by the FCC).
