51 VCs Who Want To Invest In Women, Black And Latinx, And LGBTQ+ Founders

51 VCs Who Want To Invest In Women, Black And Latinx, And LGBTQ+ Founders
Erica Chidi Cohen, co-founder and chief executive officer of Loom, speaks during the 2020 Makers … [] Conference in Los Angeles, California, U.S., on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2020. The event gathers industry leading females for roundtable discussions to help inspire the women of tomorrow. Photographer: Kyle Grillot/Bloomberg
VCs have two big jobs to do: Invest in startups shaping the future of the world and generate big exits for their fund. Yet, if you look at the lionshare of funding, you’ll quickly see that most VCs are primarily betting on white, straight (cis) men based in Silicon Valley who graduated from Stanford.
In fact, despite the data showing that investing in underrepresented founders and VC funds committed to building a more inclusive portfolio, the funding gap is barely narrowing.
Funding for women-led startups declined in Q3 2020 by over 30%, according to Pitchbook. This is particularly alarming considering that only 2.7% of funding went to women-led startups to begin with. Furthermore, the amount of funding being invested into startups led by Black and Latinx founders is even lower. According to ProjectDiane’s latest data, Black and Latinx women founders have received less than 1% of venture capital funding.
And when Black and Latinx women founders do receive investment, they receive much less capital. The median seed round raised by Black women founders is $125,000 and the median seed round raised by Latinx women founders is $200,000. As of 2020, the national median seed round funding for a startup is $2.5M, according to ProjectDiane.
As the founder of Women Who Tech and founding partner of the W Fund, I’ve been backing startups solving big problems who have traditionally been locked out of VC, and we constantly hear that the lack of access to investors and funding is one of the biggest barriers founders face.
“Just try pitching your startup to traditional Silicon Valley VCs as a Black, queer woman,” one founder said to me recently.
Frustrated by the lack of inaction by many traditional VCs, some investors are trying to change the system and close the funding gap. Check out these 50 investors who are mobilizing and deploying capital, building economic power beyond the 1%. While not all of these VCs are 100% focused on funding underrepresented founders, they say they are inclusive and intentional about investing in founders who are women, Black, Indigenous, and/or People of Color (BIPOC), LGBTQ, over 50, and/or have disabilities.
The majority of the list (formatted alphabetically) was also curated to highlight VCs who often aren’t covered by traditional media.
**Most of these investors have noted that their DMs are open, so if you’re a founder who is seeking investments, it’s worth reaching out to these VCs and angels.

Interview with /u/Krazyfranco It's that time! We're learning more about /u/Krazyfranco.Be sure to tag /u/Krazyfranco in your comments if you have a question directed at them.How/when did you start running?I “ran” my first race (https://ift.tt/3blxZhk) when I was 3 years old.. Running is in my family - my dad ran in college, and my older siblings ran track/CC when I was young, so I was pretty immersed in running as a sport from a young age.I played competitive soccer growing up, and started competing in middle school track before running XC in high school.Since high school, I had gone in various spurts of run training, and have more "seriously" trained consistently the last 5 years or so, averaging about 2500 miles/year these last 5 years.PRs?5k: 16:30 (Track)10k: 34:35HM: 1:16:XXMarathon (Solo Covid TT): 2:41:XXNext Race?I've got a local 10k turkey trot coming up next month.Goals this year?My main goal for the year has been getting back to running consistently after having to take some time off due to an injury at the end of last year. I'm pretty much there now. The beginning of this year was starting from scratch (alternating walking with a few minutes of light jogging), building very slowly and steadily from 0 MPW back to running 50-60 miles/week this fall. I'm happy to be running consistently and feel totally back to normal this fall, and to be able to think about racing again in the spring!Favorite shoes to train or race in?I've had like 10 pairs of New Balance Beacons, which I love for everything from recovery shuffles, easy runs, to tempo runs. I wore them for my marathon PR. They even felt good in an impromptu 5k TT this past weekend. That being said, I got a pair of Saucony Endorphin Pros recently that feel absolutely incredible at HM race pace. What do you think has been the greatest contributor to your success in running?Overall I'd say staying healthy and staying consistent. I like to think I train smart, stay within my abilities and current fitness, and am patient in taking the long-term view of being successful as a runner, which allows me to train consistently year over year. I realize this is kind of ironic given the injury recovery as a focus for the year, so worth noting that the injury wasn't a directly running-related overuse injury. What’s your favorite distance to race and why?Probably the half marathon. I like the training - long runs but not too long, don't really need to worry about nutrition, and lots of work at that LT/Tempo/Race Pace which feels amazing when you're in shape.Favorite (or most successful) training style/principles that you follow?I'm a bit of a Pfitz denizen, since I followed those plans to really transform my running (~3:10 marathoner -> 2:44 on a few cycles of Pfitz 18/70 + 18/85). I don't follow those plans strictly anymore, but usually keep some aspects that work well for me (incorporating a mid-week moderate 10+ miler, progressive long runs for half- and full-marathon training). I'm currently dabbling with Stryd and training with power as another way to approach training. What is your why? What keeps you going? How does this play back into your training and motivation?Honestly I really just like running and training, so there is not a lot of extra motivation I need to get out the door most days. I like how I feel when I'm active, fit, and fast. My run is usually something I look forward to and an important part of my day.I'll set external goals for a training cycle or a race, but those are more about guiding my training than a source of 'external' motivation for me.Proudest Accomplishment?I don't really know, nothing comes to mind immediately. I don't have a huge inspirational moment of pride... I just kind of like running and racing. I guess the progression in marathon times year over year down to 2:41 is the biggest thing I've accomplished as a runner.Things you do outside of running?Work! I work full time at a desk job in IT. But that's boring...Things that interest you outside of running?I am into good food, cooking, wood fired pizza, bread baking, cocktails, beer, cycling (especially XC mountain biking), fly fishing, nordic skiing (classic).Favorite subreddits? This sub + /r/artcI enjoy creeping on /r/Medicine and /r/Law as a laypersonI follow /r/invasivespecies as motivation for my ongoing war against invasive buckthorn in my backyard woodsOrigin of your username?I've had it since the launch of Battle.net for Warcraft III online play... 25 years ago? I don't even remember why.Strava/Social Media link (if you care to share it)?PM me if you want to connect on Strava!Any questions for the community?Nada

The best Johnlock fics under 10K?
Tumblr media
Hey sweetie, ooooh this is hard. I can’t possible do the best ones. How about I just go thru my notes, and cutting out AU and pure porn, I just pick a few. ;)
Good Short Fics under 10 k
34 minutes bybendingsignpost, 4 k, teen. Pre-relationship to beginning relationship.Sherlock pulls John over for an experiment in eye contact. Nicely done!
1000 Watsons walk into a bar…by destinationtoast, 1.4 k, teen. Metafiction. Just silly. Sometimes all the Watsons from all the different universesget together to hang out.
Undercurrents byentanglednow, 2 k, explicit. Short little kinky fic  - Sherlock asks John to lie down and pretendto be a corpse for a current case. Interesting things develop.
Amenable  by Resonant, 5 k, explicit. John decides he’sreading Sherlock right and kisses him on the sofa one night. After a series ofgetting to know you touching sessions, Sherlock gets scared and pulls way back.John reassures him that this is real and it’s ok.
Duvet Greenby Mazarin221b, 2 k, gen. Sweet fluff bit about Sherlock reorganizing hismindpalace and giving John his own room there.
Bedside Manners by keelywolf, 3k, teen. Absolutely adorable short about John in the hospital overnight, andSherlock keeping vigil. Could be gen, could be pre-relationship.
TheBest Picture of the Human SoulbySwissMiss, 5k, teen. Set in a magical AU in which people’s life experiencesspontaneously appear as tattoos on their skin. John and Sherlock grow to knoweach other until Sherlock must fake his death via Reichenbach.
What Meets the Eyeby worldaccordingtofangirls, 8 k, mature. Haunting and lyrical this fic followsa Sherlock who has lost his memory. He can deduce everyone around him, hislife, most of his past, but he cannot deduce John. He decides John must be hishusband … until his memory finally returns. Poignant and touching.
Nostalgia by Random_Nexus, 9 k, explicit. Sherlock finds someold photos of John in his military days obviously taken by an old boyfriend. The sexy pics make Sherlock realized he finds John sexually attractive. Hedecides to seduce John. It’s the only reasonable thing to do after all.
It Isn’t Strange UntilYou Think About It by ivyblossom, 4 k,teen. John relays in second person, talking to this therapist how he andSherlock became a couple for a case … sort of. Adorable, and breath-taking.
Home and Dry byBeautifulfiction, 1 k, gen. John makes it back to 221B soaking wet andfreezing. Sherlock surprises him by taking care of him to warm him back up.Pre-relationship to just maybe. Sweet.
Eggs and Toast and LoveConfessions by allonsys_girl, 10 k, explicit.Mary is out of the way, and John is back at 221B, but they’ve been tiptoeingaround each other for months. Finally they admit how they feel, and fall in tobed.
On the courting behaviour ofthe British Sherlock by Bold_as_Brass, 1.5 k, teen. Funlittle crack piece. John and Sherlock are primates in a zoo.
A Study in Intimacyby doodle, 5 k, teen. An asexual or demisexual Sherlock allows John to work hisway into his life, and into his arms. Lots of cuddling, and touches that winSherlock over as he relaxes into John.
Unremarkableby221b_hound, 3 k, mature. John and Sherlock relax in Spain on their honeymoon.John finds things for his honeybee to do, and Sherlock reassures John that heis a unique specimen.
A Trope Too Farby Persiflager, 5 k, mature. Super awesome meta story. Kind of a Sliderscross-over. John slides between the worlds meeting his and Sherlock’sdoppelganger in several different realities. Visits many fun and popular tropesfor John and Sherlock.
Obscurity by UrbanHymnal, 7 k,teen. One of the most beautiful, lyrical things I have ever read. John has animpediment with processing words, and can only speak in quotes from books hehas read. Sherlock is the only person who has ever tried to speak his language.Friends to something more. Lovely, just lovely.
Water Is Another Matterby cathedral_carver, 3 k, teen.  Johnlock. Dreamy, gorgeous lyrical littlepiece about falling in love, and water. Skips around in time, feels very meta, and surreal – so nicely done!
Bread and Wine and Curry Oncea Week by cwb, 8 k, explicit. Adorable Johnlockstory. John is trying to tease out Sherlock’s romantic life when his flatmateadmits to being attracted to someone. John wants to help. He suggests Sherlockwrite this person a letter, ask them out, etc. and then wishes he hadn’t givensuch helpful advice. (Locked to AO3 users.)
Time on my hands byMildredandbobbin, 7 k words. Sherlock decides to experiment with his sexuality, and discovers gay bars. When John finally moves back into 221b, and discoversthat Sherlock is picking up men for sex, he can’t not offer to be one of them. (Lockedto AO3 members.)
Illogical, even.  by magikspell, 9 k,explicit. A wonderful series of snippets of Sherlock growing up, and processingwhat love means. From disillusionment to finally meeting John, and having hisexpectations upended. Almost a prose poem as Sherlock computes and runsinformation through his mind. Thumbs up!
FAQbyancientreader, 4 k, rated gen. After series 3. Mary is dead, killed by anotherassassin.  John is left picking up thepieces with his new daughter, Louisa, when Sherlock is released from prison andcomes to see him. He brings with him a FAQ sheet on nesting swans in RegentsPark
Carry On by Mazarin221b,4 k , mature, Johnlock. Five timesJohn didn’t want to be carried, and one time he did. Friends to lovers, fun andsweet. Lots of hurt/comfort, some drunk!John and some adorably cluelessSherlock.
Just Like That (Gone andChanged) by cwb, 4 k, explicit Johnlock. This isa cute American AU teenlock. John and Sherlock are neighbors and best friendsgrowing up in the heartland of America. Suddenly one summer, things changebetween them, and nothing can ever be the same again. Adorable and super hotwith fab notes for Brits not familiar with all the Americanisms. Thumbs up! (Lockedto AO3 users.)
Wake ups by Avice, 4 k,explicit. John and Sherlock continue to feel out the edges of this new thing, this relationship between them. Sherlock still wakes John with his loudexperiments. Sherlock chants pi as they shag to stave off his orgasm. Johnstill has nightmares, and Sherlock doesn’t know how to help. Hot and lovely.
Landscape with the fallof Icarusbycaitlinfairchild, 4 k, teen and up. This is a very clever “fill in the blanks”fic that describes what happens to Sherlock at the beginning of series 3. Sometorture, and PTSD, and Mycroft to the rescue. So well done!
FiveTimes John Cooked Something with Peas and One First Kissby 221b_careful_what_you_wish_for, 3 k, teen. After John cooks five dinnersthat slowly reveal their hunger for each other, Sherlock and John finally sharea first kiss. Relays, PBs and Hills!
This past 5 weeks has seen a lot of activity.  With the winter season in full swing, cross country and longer runs are the order of the day. Early in June, I did what’s become my “regular double” - running the 5km Parkrun first thing on a Saturday morning, then backing that up with a fast 1km cross country in the afternoon.  This pairing resulted in my Parkrun time reducing from 26:36 down to 24:56 in the course of a few weeks.  This stands as my PB on my home Parkrun course, and is only 34 seconds slower than my all time 5k PB on any course.  That is my next mark. Meanwhile, my 1km times, while not PBs are quite good for the fact that I’ve already run a hard 5k in the morning.  I’ve got to around 3:45 for the 1k in this way. A better indication of my middle distance capabilities was the Global Running Day virtual mile, which I ran in the first week of June.  Like last year, I ran this event at the athletics track, where I had access to a measured mile.  This year, my time was 6:22, 19 seconds faster than last year.  In addition, I made a mental note of my 1500m split as I rounded the home bend.  This was around 5:55, which is faster than my 1500m PB.
The latter part of the month was dominated by bigger events, which meant taking a break from Parkrun for a while. The first of these weekends was the Anglesea Ekiden relay.  In this event, multiple runners combine to complete a longer race between them.  I had the third of 3 legs, which was the shortest at 5.8km.  The first 2k was mostly an uphill grind from the seaside caravan park into the hills behind the town.  This was tough, forcing me to slow to a walk on 2 occasions.  Next was the run on narrow trails, before descending back down to seaside level.  Finished my leg in 29:45, which I was happy with under the tough conditions.
The following week was the Bendigo Harriers invitation cross country.  I had a choice of attempting a PB over 1km or running the 3km event.  As the weather was wet, with possible storms forecast later in the day, I decided to inspect the 1km course, which was around the pony club oval, near the pavilion.  With a lot of water on the course, I decided that it was too risky attempting to get my 78kg around at speeds of up to 20 km/h, and opted for the 3k course as the safer option, with slower speeds on a well drained route.
Started the 3k in light rain.  The course was mostly uphill for the first half, before turning around and coming back down.  While the hill was tough, as a grind like the previous week, I made it to the top in just over 7 minutes, which meant I was looking at a good time.  Finished the race in 13:41, after a fast downhill leg, making it my second fastest 3k time.
This weekend was a bit all over the place.  I had originally planned to go to Sandown in SE Melbourne yesterday (Saturday) to run a leg of the AV road relay there.  However, due to withdrawals and team rearrangements, I found myself without any teammates.  With that situation, I stayed behind and focused on local events.
I decided against the Parkrun due to lack of sleep, and slept in a little instead.  For the afternoon, I had the same choice as the previous week - attempting a 1k PB or running the 3k.  After initial indecision, I went with my gut and entered the 3km event.
Unlike the previous week, weather conditions were perfect, and in addition, the road that formed the first and last 650m of the course had been recently graded and was in excellent condition.  Got off to a good start and ran the first km in 4:23, and reached the halfway mark in 6:35.  The next 900m were mostly a slog, before starting the fast downhill run to the finish.  Finished in 13:32, which made the run a new 3km PB, beating the 13:33 PB that has stood for almost 3 years.
This morning was the first of our training sessions away from the track.  We ran a series of 200m hill repeats at a fairly good pace with walk recovery.  This fits perfectly with where I’m at, and should push my performance to the next level for the latter part of the cross country season.  In addition, I’m hoping it will improve my speed endurance for the 400m next summer.
Anyway, the winter season is progressing very well, with excellent progress.  I’m looking forward to seeing what I’m capable of.

Goals & Grit: 101 Goals in 1001 Days
Tumblr media
I have always been a person that feels the most fulfilled  when I put a lot on my plate.  The last few years of life have thrown a lot at me both mentally and physically, yet I have always maintained one focus: to find the silver lining.

take the stage and deliver by mothwrites | Wolf 359 | Jacobi/Kepler | 3k | “Why me?” Jacobi asked.“You’re just his type,” Cutter said. “He’ll never see it coming.”
push to the limit by gortysproject | Wolf 359 | Jacobi/Kepler | 10k | five times kepler asks too much of jacobi, and one time jacobi can't pull through for him.
you be the motor, I'll be the gasoline by crookedfingers | Wolf 359 | Jacobi/Kepler | 5k | The hold music begins before Jacobi can finish his sentence. He blinks at the far wall and then glances at a clock. He’ll give it thirty seconds before he hangs up.Then the music stops jarringly mid-note and someone says, “Thank you so much for your patience. I understand that you’re seeking career opportunities with Goddard Futuristics.”
life 2.0 by goldtreesilvertree, mothwrites | Wolf 359 | Jacobi/Eiffel | 5k | "Alright... Daniel. Why are we having a movie night?" Minkowski never seemed the type to be into movie nights, and Hera probably doesn't get the point. He's beginning to get the feeling this will be the first movie night Eiffel 2.0 is going to remember, and he doesn't know if that's a good thing."Because," Daniel says, passing him a DVD so he has to get up again, "I really want to watch this, and my usual movie-buddy is dead. My backup movie-buddy is also dead. Any further questions?"
'til your heart goes numb by LuckyDiceKirby | The Bright Sessions | Mark/Damien | 1k |  Instead of going out and getting drunk with Rose, Mark goes for a drive.
black sheep and mischief by grim_lupine | Thor | Thor & Loki | 3k | A bird alights on Thor’s shoulder and pecks his cheek twice, hard enough to make him wince.“What are you doing?” it warbles in his ear.“Wondering what my brother is doing up at this hour, little bird,” Thor replies. “Will you go ask him for me?”
(Lines on Palms by Fahye | Captive Prince | Damen/Laurent | 35k | "You're lying," Damen says. "You walked into Akielos and stole something from me.")**
On Tilt by 13th_blackbird | Solo | Han/Lando | 3k |  “You want to play?” Han says, nodding at the cards, before he can think better of it. “Or are you just showing off?”
tell me, get my shit together by paperclipbitch | Solo | Han/Lando | 5k | “I thought we were actively avoiding each other after the Trandosha Shitshow,” Han says.“We’re actively avoiding each other after the Iridonia Shitshow,” Lando corrects him, “the Trandosha Shitshow is That Which We Do Not Speak Of.”
Make Me Feel by Copper_Nails (Her_Madjesty) | Solo | Han/Lando | 2k | Winning the Falcon back is supposed to fill the empty space beneath his ribs. Han told himself this the whole way to Lando, tells it to himself again, now: it’s immensely satisfying to stare up at the ship’s sleek (battered) lines, so he can stop thinking about Crimson Dawn, thanks; can stop thinking about Beckett on the cliffside and Qi’ra, fading like a star in the morning.
Proving It by sailingonstardust | Solo | Han/Lando | 1.5k |  “You know,” Lando interrupts Han in the middle of a story about a seedy club and two twi’leks, “you can talk, and talk, and talk, but I don’t believe half the things you’re saying for even a second.”
one night on the falcon by topaz | Solo | Han/Lando | 3k |  If Han was the kind of guy who thought about things like this, the idea of fucking Lando Calrissian in the ship he'd used to own would have fallen somewhere on the Cool side of the prospective ideas spectrum, probably shading to the Not really likely to happen but still fun to think about group.
A Cornstalk Fiddle by notbecauseofvictories | Devil Went Down to Georgia | Devil/Johnny | 9k+ |  Where Johnny goes, the Devil follows; where Johnny goes, the Devil is already there.
The Beginning After the End by notbecauseofvictories | Star Wars | Padme & Obi-Wan | 7k |  Padmé wakes to the back of Obi-Wan’s head, his hair mussed and his arms spread, outstretched over her knees as though to shield her from all that would come.
( Stargazers by Ruby_Wednesday | Captive Prince | Laurent/Damen | 90k | Five years after the Truce of Marlas, Damen and Laurent meet again in Delpha. They're forced to work together to soothe the growing tension between their countries. But Laurent does not forgive easily and Damen's not that sorry.)
( One the Other by Ruby_Wednesday | Captive Prince | Laurent/Damen | 200k |  Marlas goes badly for Damen. He goes back to Ios with Laurent as his reluctant ward.)
July
Any More Obvious by idiopathicsmile | Les Mis | Eponine/Cosette | 2k | “Look, folks,” says Musichetta, ten minutes from the end of cheer practice, “we have an audience. A spooky audience.”
speak in tongues by SpineAndSpite | Yuri On Ice | Yuri/Otabek | 7k | The last time Yuri went sightseeing with Otabek it had been the middle of winter, and he only had breath to contemplate the speed of the bike and the warmth of Otabek through his jacket. A crowded bus is a far cry, but he still has the same feeling of displacement--of not knowing what will happen next.
cherry pie by brawlite, ToAStranger | Stranger Things | Billy/Steve | 133k | Billy Hargrove lives for summer. Endless sunshine, heavily chlorinated pools, roaming ice cream trucks, and unencumbered freedom? There’s nothing better.**
(you hate me) cause i got what you need by brawlite, ToAStranger | Stranger Things | Billy/Steve | 6k | “You smell like coconuts,” Billy murmurs. “Like the ocean, too.”
Draconia by perceived_nobility | The Bright Sessions | Damien/Mark | 4k | "So I was driving. One ex wife and one ex husband later, stopping at the same fucking gas stations you and I stopped at."
untalked of and unseen by prouvairing | If We Were Villains | James/Oliver | 5k | Four times Oliver and James slept together, and one time they didn’t. Not exactly in that order.
Swipe right by mee4ever | HP | Draco/Harry | 2k | Or then one where Harry swipes right, and it turns out Draco does too.
The Truth by mee4ever | HP | Draco/Harry | 4k | Or the one where Harry is too bloody thick to see the truth, even when it's staring him in the face.
August
Victory Condition by astolat | Transformers | Megatron/Optimus | 39k | “Do you want me to tell you a story?” Megatron said mockingly. “You won’t like it, Prime. It’s not a very nice one.”
chases, escapes, true love, miracles by pepperfield | The Flash | Cisco/Harry | 55k | Just because the timeline has been restored, doesn't mean things are back to normal. Cisco's got 99 problems, and Harry Wells is approximately 38 of them.

100 Fall Bucket List Ideas for an Intentional Season
My number one goal for my favorite season is to have an intentional Fall. I know that with our lives are busy. I know that if we don't create a list of bucket list ideas, then we won't be intentional. We will miss the amazing things that only happen in the Fall.
What were some of your favorite Fall activities when you were a child? We always visited Huber's Farm in Starlight, Indiana. If we didn't go as a family, I went on a field trip with our elementary school. Sometimes we would go to the store and buy pumpkins to carve or paint. I loved seeing the bright oranges and reds of the leaves as they changed colors.
While we've always talked about doing all the fun Fall things each year, they don't always happen. This 100 Bucket List ideas for an intentional Fall is my attempt at being more organized and following through with our wishes. I want to make memories this Fall with my kids. Clarifying the battery life issues with the new MacBook Pros
Also, presenting a couple of fixes that influenced clients can try. Some clients of Apple's most up to date MacBook Pros aren't content with their battery life. Despite the fact that the Apple Support Communities discussions, Twitter, and other message sheets will essentially open up protests, it seems genuinely regular for clients of the Touch Bar demonstrate specifically to see battery life that misses the mark concerning Apple's 10-hour gauges for Web perusing and motion picture playback.
Apple pointed out additional the issue this week in the freshest macOS Sierra refresh, not by settling it but rather by evacuating the "time remaining" gauge that a few clients had been sharing to show the battery issues they were having. The precision of that battery appraise aside—and it was constantly more valuable as a "rate of battery deplete" marker than as a real time evaluate—it would appear that a shallow arrangement intended to take care of a PR issue as opposed to a sincere push to settle anything.
Narrative reports since the 10.12.2 refresh hit have proposed that the refresh could enhance battery life, however I don't think this is the situation—Apple let us know over and again and vehemently that it had found a way to enhance MacBook Pro battery life in this refresh. As per Apple's information, the organization said the batteries seemed, by all accounts, to be executing as expected.
Given the additional (and all around earned) consideration, how about we separate this battery circumstance. How is Apple touching base at its battery life figures, and why may yours be missing the mark? In case you're originating from a more seasoned MacBook Pro, why may you be seeing lower battery life than some time recently? However, in particular, what—in the event that anything—would you be able to attempt to do to settle it?
Apple's evaluations
We can't state precisely what tests Apple is utilizing, nor would we be able to reproduce them with finish exactness. Yet, here's the full spiel from the MacBook Pro's tech specs page—Apple for the most part gets these figures by testing essential designs with Core i5 CPUs and the base measure of RAM (8GB for 13-inch portable workstations, 16GB for 15-inchers).
The remote web test measures battery life by remotely perusing 25 mainstream sites with show brilliance set to 12 ticks from base or 75 percent. The iTunes motion picture playback test measures battery life by playing back HD 1080p substance with show shine set to 12 ticks from base or 75 percent. The standby test measures battery life by permitting a framework, associated with a remote system and marked in to an iCloud account, to enter standby mode with Safari and Mail applications propelled and all framework settings left at default. Battery life shifts by utilize and design.
Apple's perusing test doesn't sound too far-removed from our own, however Apple sets its screen brilliance only a little lower than our standard 200 nits (around 80 or 85 percent on the slider). And keeping in mind that this kind of test is valuable for contrasting tablets relative with each other, it's not really illustrative of true utilize. It doesn't represent multitasking or screen exchanging; there aren't especially serious assignments running out of sight; and expecting the portable PC is running some sort of script and not really taking client contribution (just like the case with our test), the Touch Bar may go sit out of gear and stop itself. It isn't so much that Apple is lying about its battery life figures, it's recently that the test isn't generally intelligent of what a great deal of "aces" are doing with these portable workstations. What's utilizing all that power, at that point?
Sapped by setup
These portable PCs are fresh out of the box new, and many individuals have just had them for a couple of days. As Apple noted to us when we got some information about the battery issues, those first days can be especially rebuffing for your battery, particularly in the event that you have a considerable measure of information on your drive or in iCloud.
Apple's Spotlight ordering administration creeps through the majority of that substance to make it simpler to seek through later, and iCloud matching up for iCloud Drive, the iCloud Photo Library or Photo Stream highlights, and different components can likewise make for a considerable measure of transferring and downloading. Battery life in the principal day or two may not really be illustrative of ordinary battery life once everything has settled down.
This could likewise clarify some of those reports that battery life has enhanced since the 10.12.2 refresh landed. It may be the case that the refresh's establishment concurred with the finish of those first-time Spotlight and iCloud operations.
What you're doing with the portable PC super issues
Like never before, the new Pros' battery life will be dictated by what you're utilizing the machine for. That has dependably been the situation, yet it's diverse fundamentally in view of three things: littler batteries, a more power productive screen, Intel's current CPU stagnation, and the 15-inch models' compulsory committed GPU.
Contrasted with a year ago's models, the Touch Bar MacBook Pros lose a lot of battery limit. The 13-inch display drops from 74.9 WHr to 49.2 WHr and the 15-inch show tumbles from 99.5 WHr to 76 WHr. That is a 34 percent and 24 percent lessening in limit, individually.
On the off chance that you decrease the measure of the battery and you would prefer not to thoroughly tank battery life, you have to discover control investment funds somewhere else. The CPU and GPU and the show are the greatest conceivable territories of funds since will draw more power than segments somewhere else in the framework, and Apple says that it has lessened the power utilization of the screen by around 30 percent.
The issue is this isn't the same as a framework wide 30 percent control decrease, which is generally what you'd have to compensate for the limit misfortune in the two frameworks. The issue for Apple is that 2016's Intel Skylake processors use around an indistinguishable measure of energy from 2015's Broadwell processors utilized as a part of the last 13-inch Pro and just a tad bit under 2013's Haswell CPUs that were as yet utilized as a part of the 15-inch Pro.
The 2013/2014, 2015, and 2016 Pros all utilization processors that have a similar warm plan power, or TDP: 28W for the 13-inch models and 45W for the 15-inch models. These numbers aren't intended to gauge control draw (they're utilized principally to indicate how much cooling limit a given chip ought to need to perform ideally), however they give a decent ballpark evaluate. For marginally more exact figures, here are the power draw numbers for three eras of Intel NUC desktops utilizing practically identical chips with 15W TDPs.
Some of the time the more up to date chips devour a minor piece less power than the more seasoned ones, and once in a while they utilize a smidgen all the more, yet they're extensively similar. The power investment funds that empower those littler batteries aren't generally originating from the processor.
Likewise, remember how 2013's Haswell CPUs figured out how to enhance battery life so discernibly contrasted with 2012's Ivy Bridge CPUs. Beginning in Haswell, CPUs can bounce between their dynamic and sit without moving states all the more rapidly, enabling the processor to invest more energy lingering. In the case of following along, that is three huge components affecting the circumstance:
The new portable workstations have littler batteries than the old ones.
Intel's CPUs are in charge of a higher rate of aggregate framework control use, since they devour about as much power now as they did maybe a couple or three years prior.
The less sit without moving processor time you have, the less Intel's current power improvements can help you.
The majority of this implies, to put it plainly, that what you're doing with your PC has more to do with your certifiable battery life than some time recently. It's the reason there's such a colossal distinction between our Wi-Fi perusing tests and our heavier WebGL tests, and a littler battery implies will see it more in the new Pros.
That devoted GPU
The 15-inch Pros have another entangling factor: required 35W TDP illustrations chips over the line. In my audit, I went into the reasons why Apple has done this in the wake of delivery a base model with incorporated illustrations for a couple of years. This choice was the best way to ensure that every one of the 15-inch models were equipped for driving two 5K screens at 60Hz on the double.
The drawback is that there's no incorporated choice for individuals who might want to organize battery life over outside show yield. The portable PCs will powerfully switch between the coordinated and devoted GPUs to spare power, and keeping in mind that it helps, switchable GPUs are as yet a kludgy answer for the issue. There's no real way to kill the committed GPU altogether, so it's as yet going to be kicking on and off contingent upon what you're doing. As a client, you'll have no ability to see into which GPU your framework is utilizing when and why.
The gfxcardstatus device that used to help with this is never again being kept up, and as of Sierra it doesn't seem, by all accounts, to be ready to deal with manual illustrations exchanging on any framework. So 15-inch Pro proprietors need to endure expanded GPU control utilization over the Intel CPU circumstance.
The Touch Bar: Probably not a tremendous arrangement
Having an entire separate screen and SoC inside the MacBook utilizing your battery contributes to your general framework control utilize, yet how about we place that in setting. The Apple T1 SoC is a nearby with respect to the one in the Apple Watch, and the show still uses AMOLED to spare power regardless of the possibility that it's not so much equivalent to the Apple Watch show in some other significant way. In any case, the Apple Watch Series 2 can last well finished a day on a 1.03WHr battery, only a small amount of the 74.9 WHr to 49.2 WHr limits of the Pro batteries. It has an effect, however it'll be generally minor contrasted with whatever is left of the framework.
Potential arrangements
This present one's troublesome, in light of the fact that there's just so much you can truly do to enhance battery life on a Mac in case you're not content with it. I can't expand your battery's ability or lessen your CPU or GPU's energy utilization, yet these are the best proposals we have for squeezing one more hour or two out of your battery.

(06/25/17) "The Bread of Life" (Humanity wk 5)
JOHN 6: “Where” & “When” (the Feeding & Walking on Water). Today: “WHO”.
youtube
John records things ‘differently’ [‘Where’ to Phil, Peter doesn’t walk on water] & adds what the others omit, “On the following day … “ (vs 22).
Matt & Mk healings, opposition from Religious leaders, healing of a Gentile followed by the Feeding of 4K Gentiles, Religious leaders seek a ‘sign’, Jesus warns His disciples.
Lk moves from Feeding of 5K directly to Peter’s Rev.
All 3 go to the Mount of Transfiguration. John doesn’t. He skips to the Feast of Tabs.
John has been writing around ‘Feasts’, Temple, Law: Religion. Also, Israel’s History as a rep of Humanity, and New Creation by our Father, the Son & Spirit (like Gen 1). p. 2
The Turning Point: Year of Rejection & Opposition. Like the Wilderness all over again! Faith.
John: Instigated by Religious leaders BUT also the division ‘of man’ & ‘of God’.
Read vss 21-42. From ‘The Boats of Tiberias’ to ‘The Bread of Life’!
First, “Who” gets out of the ‘boat’: Those who are concerned ‘of man’ [physical], not spiritual.
No appetite for spiritual things. But it doesn’t stop the Truth from speaking.
Secondly, misreading of vs 27. Take out the word ‘for’: The act of eating, to ‘work something’,
not ‘for’ something. See 5:17 & 9:4. EATING: Taste, Chew, Swallow. WORK the food! Digestion: More breakdown, transform into ‘Flesh’ & Energy, Dispose of Non-essential
Compare their Q [vs 28] with ‘labor for’. How would ‘give’ figure into ‘working for’?
Thirdly, WHO, “the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on
Him … He sent (Him)” (vss 27-29). “Who do men say I, the Son of Man, am?” Heb 1.
Everything they hear is ‘carnal’, ‘food’ oriented, material, physical, ‘sent’. Manna Madness & Moses! Wilderness mentality: The Word not mixed with Faith! Jesus says, “Believe IN Him!” From ‘Boats to Bread to BELIEVE’! ‘Where’? ‘When’? WHO!
Jesus hears them comparing Him to Moses [Prophet of Deut 18, ‘like me … like you’, Son of Man], looking for validation ‘from God’, ‘signs’. Read 32-34, again. True Bread ‘of God’: True Light [1:9], True Worshipers [4:23], True Vine [15:1], True God [17:3].
He hears them crying out for what Moses represented: Law & Religion. Neither feeds!
Note: Moses has been a theme of John’s from the ‘beginning’: 1:17 & 45, 3:14, 5:45-46.
WHO? “I AM the Bread of Life” [first of seven compound ‘I AM’s in John].
“I AM the One who tells you everything about yourself without judgment” (Jn 4)
“I AM the One who is with you in every storm and speaks, ‘Fear not! I AM’” (Jn 6)
“I AM the voice of One crying in your self-imposed wilderness, as well as your desert of hungering and thirsting for more.”
I AM: Connected to Moses (Ex 3), wilderness.
BREAD: From Adam [Gen 3:19], to Mel [Gen 14:18], to Joseph’s granaries [Gen 41], the Shewbread [Ex 40, Rom 12]. ‘Bread of God’ [vs 33], ‘from Heaven’ [vs 32], ‘of Life’ [vs 35]. This is not about ‘physical bread’ or ‘miracles’; but WHERE, the Giver of both earthly food/provision & spiritual: “LIFT UP your eyes”, where you are, I AM.
Gen 1:6-8, ‘second day’, creation of an atmosphere, ‘expanse’ between ‘divided’ waters, Heaven, ‘where’ the bread comes from! And the third day?
OF LIFE! “In Him was life … the Bread of Life, the Way, Truth & Life that comes down & raises up, that breaks through the wilderness & death mentality! Eternal!
Close with vss 40-42.
“Came down”, as the Son of Man, the Nobleman’s son [below], taking on all of Humanity’s illness.
The Jews could not handle the ‘coming down’ concept, i.e., ‘from dust’. Seemed to miss the ‘sent’ part. This was a huge stretch: The Son of Man is the Son of God. Revelation!
JOHN
Jn 1: The Word [“beginning”], Baptism of ‘the Lamb of God’, Jacob’s ladder
Jn 2: 1st Sign: Water to Wine at a Wedding, Jerusalem/Passover/Temple [Religion]
Jn 3: Nic [religious leader]; John the B [‘voice in the wilderness’/prophetic voice, breaking in on
‘other voices’, ‘who do men … ’] pulls it all together (vss 27-36).
Jn 4: Samaria [Acts 1:8], Jacob’s well [Ladder in Jn 1], first ‘I AM’ [God of the 2nd Chances at
the burning bush]. A ‘water’ theme is becoming clear. Read 4:42! 2nd Sign –Healing the Nobleman’s son (“Come down”)
Jn 5: “Feast of the Jews”, 38 yr old invalid [Deut 2:14], Father emphasis [started in Jn 4 with
Woman]. Relationship, not Religion. Persecution for ‘working on’ Sabbath (vs 16) & wanting to kill Him for saying ‘God was His Father’. Read 5:24-27.
Jn 6: “Where & When” – I AM, again [Mo/Israel in Wilderness] but MORE!

Moz Local Report: Who's Winning Wealth Management?
Posted by Dr-Pete
As more people look for financial advice online, brick-and-mortar wealth management firms and financial advisors are competing harder than ever for search customers. More than 70% of millennials use search engines for research, and 15% of 18–34 year-olds are turning directly to search engines for financial advice. As consumers in their 20s and 30s grow their wealth, have families, and begin planning for the future, who is best situated to capture their attention online?
This turns out to be a more difficult question than you might think. Focusing on Google, there are three major areas where financial service providers can compete: organic results, local results, and paid results (ads). Even organic results are increasingly localized, with top rankings varying wildly from city to city, and traditional organic results are often pushed below both ads and the local 3-pack. Local packs command a large amount of screen real-estate — here’s a local pack for “financial planner” in my own suburban Chicago neighborhood:
In partnership with Hearsay Systems, which provides Advisor Cloud solutions for the financial services industry, we decided to find out who’s leading the pack (no pun intended) in 2017 for wealth management and financial advisory searches across organic, local, and paid results.
Get the full report
Research methodology
For the purposes of this study, we decided to target five keyphrases related to wealth management and financial advisory services:
financial advisor
financial planning
financial planner
financial consultant
wealth management
For each keyword, we looked at page one of Google results across 5,000 cities (the 5K largest cities in the contiguous 48 states, according to US census data). We then captured URLs and ranking positions across organic, local, and paid results.
To aggregate the data, we weighted each result by the population of the corresponding city and the estimated click-through rate (CTR) of its ranking position. We used a fairly conservative CTR curve, weighting top results a bit heavier, but not too dramatically:
For the final analysis across all five keywords, we weighted each keyword by its estimated search volume (according to Google Adwords) in the United States. By far, “financial advisor” was the most popular keyword, scooping up about 55% of search share across the keyword set.
Since some large brands use multiple websites (domains), we consolidated their numbers across those domains. So, for example, morganstanley.com and morganstanleybranch.com were grouped together in the final analysis. Quite a few brands have separate domains for their corporate site and local/branch locations. We’re interested in the strength of the brands themselves, not the particulars of how they divvy up their websites.
Top 5 organic leaders
The Top 5 for organic results were dominated by informational and news sites. The following graph compares the total “Click Share” based on all available clicks across all sites:
Investopedia led the way, scoring almost one-fifth of all clicks in our aggregate model, across more than 4,000 ranking domains. Among major players in the financial services space, only Edward Jones made it into the Top 5.
This is consistent with the idea that people are seeking general financial advice, and may not always be looking to organic results to find local service providers. Google’s results can often tell us a lot about how they’re interpreting search intent.
Curious case of keyword #4
Across the five keywords, we generally saw similar patterns. There were ranking variations, of course, but most of the top sites for one keyword performed well across the other keywords in organic results. The notable exception was keyword #4, “financial consultant.”
The Top 10 organic competitors for “financial consultant” included Monster.com (#1), Indeed.com (#4), Glassdoor (#5), and Robert Half (#7). Google seems to be interpreting this search as a job-hunting search and not a search for a service provider. This goes to show how important it is to make sure you’re targeting the right terms.
Top 5 local leaders
Applying the same analysis to the local pack, we came up with the following Top 5…
Traditional wealth management players performed much better in local pack results. Across our data, though, Edward Jones dominated the competitors in local rankings, consuming almost 40% of the total Click Share.
Interestingly, there was more overall diversity in local pack results, even with one dominant player and only three ranking positions per page. While just over 4,000 different domains ranked across organic results, local packs in our data set sampled from almost 7,000 different domains.
Top 5 paid/ad leaders
Morgan Stanley led the way in paid positioning, capturing just under 20% of Click Share. The rest of the Top 5 paid players were a bit more well-rounded, consuming roughly equal shares...
Interesting to note that relative newcomer SoFi seems to be spending pretty heavily in the space. SoFi (“Social Finance”) is an online finance community clearly aimed at the digital generation.
Given that this is a competitive space with relatively high costs-per-click (CPC), only 366 domains appeared in paid listings in our study. This was not due to a lack of ads — over 99% of the search results we examined displayed ads, and almost every search had a full complement of seven ads.
Non-traditional players
In addition to SoFi, a couple of newcomers fared pretty well in our data relative to their size and spend. Betterment.com appeared in 25th place in organic and 16th in paid. NerdWallet came in 46th in organic results and 22nd in paid. Credio.com took 20th place in organic overall but had no paid presence.
The one advantage traditional players clearly still have is in local results, where none of these newcomers ranked. Big brands with multiple brick-and-mortar presences still dominate local pack results, for obvious reasons, and online-only players can’t compete in local/map results. This makes performing well in local results even more important for big brands with a strong, nationwide physical presence.
Big winner: Edward Jones
Squeezing a lot of data into one graph can be a little dangerous, but let’s take a peek at what happens when we aggregate across all three types of listings (organic, local, and paid). Here are the Top 5 across all of the data in our study…
The combination of their dominant #1 position in our local data, #5 in organic, and a solid #25 in paid makes Edward Jones the clear overall winner, grabbing just over 14% of total Click Share in our study. Industry powerhouse Morgan Stanley comes in at #2, thanks primarily to their #1 paid ranking and #5 local position.
What’s the secret to Edward Jones’ success? Despite what the Internet wants you to believe, there’s almost never just one weird trick to search marketing success in 2017. One significant factor may be that Edward Jones has gone all-in on hyper-local pages. Their dominant local presence was made up of over 7,000 unique URLs representing their individual advisors.
Each advisor page has a clear, consistent Name, Address, and Phone number (or “NAP,” to use local search lingo), office hours, and other essential information. While the pages aren’t particularly unique, Edward Jones has done a good job of making sure that local offices are well represented and have a consistent, structured page.
It’s worth noting that even local rankings are very keyword specific. While Edward Jones ranked #1 overall in local packs for all four keyphrases starting with “financial…”, they fell to #23 for “wealth management.” Edward Jones has clearly carved out their niche.
The Wall Street Journal, on the other hand, maintains their dominant organic position with just a single page: a guide to choosing a financial planner. This page clearly benefits from WSJ’s overall authority, and it shows just how different ranking for organic and local search has become these days.
A few tactical takeaways
Based on this research, what advice would we give to financial players (big and small) who hope to be competitive in Google search?
Brick-and-mortar should focus on local
The big financial players with physical offices need to capitalize on that fact, because online-only players won’t be able to compete in local results (at least for now). While a hyper-local approach (to the tune of thousands of pages) is a big undertaking and not without risk, I’d highly recommend testing it if you’re a big player in the space. Edward Jones’ success with this approach can’t be ignored.
For local, focus attention on key markets
You don’t have to compete in every market (you’re probably not even physically in every market). Across even five keywords and 5,000 cities, there were roughly 7,000 domains ranking in the local 3-pack. That means that the winners for any given market varied wildly. Invest your hyper-local resources in key markets with the highest potential ROI.
Online-only should invest in content
Sure, the Wall Street Journal is a huge player, but the fact that they ranked across thousands of cities and highly competitive keywords with a single piece of content is still pretty amazing. Google seems to be interpreting these keywords as informational, and so online-only players need to invest heavily in content that hits the research phase of the buyer cycle. If big financial players hope to compete for organic, they may have to do the same.
You may have to pay for placement
I’ve worked in paid search in a former life, and I believe a balanced approach to search marketing has to be an eyes-wide-open approach. Right now, ads have prominent placement on these searches, often with a full seven ads per page (including four at the top). If you have the money and want to compete against organic and local pack results, you have to at least run the numbers on advertising.
