I was thinking about the scene where April kills Cas temporarily (e.g. until Gadreel heals him), and the Destiel components range from kinda-hilarious to subtle-and-painful, so I bring them to y'all.

the thing about 5.03 is that dean says he’s happier without his family. and he’s lying & he’s not lying.

he’s not lying when he says he feels freer and less bound to duty, has more fun, etc etc, but he is lying when he says he doesn’t miss sam & that he’s better off without sam.

he’s genuinely having fun with cas, he appreciates having cas around, and for possibly the first time since cassie he’s choosing somebody instead of having them be given to him. definitely this is the first time he chooses someone who knows he’s a hunter. BUT- he’s also using cas, both to get the hunt done and to get his mind off sam.

that all comes to a head in their conversation in baby, and cas leaves right in the middle of dean’s sentence.

and that is SO crunchy because it’s cas realizing he’s being used and saying no and setting a boundary. it’s cas saying actually, i’m calling you on your bullshit. but at the same time it’s dean’s abandonment issues and his belief that everyone he loves is going to leave him. it’s dean realizing he just fucked up the most fun he’s had in years. and that is so CRUNCHY
