From one of the most charming, timeless and gently delightful TV series ever broadcast, "Bagpuss" from the seemingly fathomless talent of Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin.

Every week for 13 magical weeks, we started with the sepia-tint photo montage as Emily, the owner of an unusual shop, would bring some new item to the shop, and would show it to Bagpuss.

And then she would recite the words that have been lodged in my mind for nearly fifty years (long before even the Green Lantern oath).

"Bagpuss, dear Bagpuss, Oh fat, furry cat puss. Wake up and look at this thing that I bring. Wake up, be bright! Be golden and light! Bagpuss, oh hear what I sing." And with that the story would shift from photo motage to colour stop motion, and the events would unfold as Bagpuss and his assorted friends came to life.

If you've never seen it, I recommend you watch this, and just revel in how each, simple, animated character has more personality than they have any right to, and remember that ALL the voices are done by one person, utterly astonishing.

I've been watching a show on FE network.

It says it ran from the early 70s until 77. What really freaks me out is that everything is somewhat modern except for the ambulances. Those are all just old station wagons with lights on them.
