Skam France Girl Squad Interview
SkamUpdates on Twitter interviewed the girls from SKAM France after the premiere two days ago, and they just posted a three-part video of it (x x x). Here it is, translated!
Interviewer: These questions have already been asked during the...I don’t know what it’s called, but...we'd like to know if you're not scared to go after the original "SKAM". It's been retweeted a lot on Twitter Lula (Daphné/Vilde): Ah, yes. Assa (Imane/Sana): At first, we were scared. Marylin (Manon/Noora): At first, we were really scared but that's normal A: Not anymore! M: We know how loved the show is. The goal isn't to make something... Coline (Alexia/Chris): similar? Philippine (Emma/Eva): Yeah, we don't want to just "copy-paste"! We hadn't really seen it...or at least we didn't identify with the characters, we didn't try to do the same thing they did. I think they're really good at what they do, and we're not here to...plagiarize or anything. L: We're not trying to compete either. A: Yeah, exactly. C: The number one goal was to adapt it to France. M: To do the same thing, but differently, and...to give as much energy...and we all did our best because...well firstly we don't want to disappoint the French SKAM fandom but we don't want to disappoint the Norwegians either. We know that the bar is high and that the fans are...really big fans *All girls nod* M: we can't mess this up, and we knew it from the beginning. I: Especially when it comes to couples! All girls: Aaaah! C: Ah, yes! L: That's for sure! P: No, but in any case it's different. It's similar, but we've done it differently... A: As it should! P: and we're really not trying to remake Noora or Eva...That's it. A: I mean, it should be different, because it's really not the same culture: we're in France, they're in Norway, so some things are necessarily different. I: And about your personalities, in real life as in the show...I feel like the one who's closest to her character in the show is the one who plays Chris L: Ah-ah! I: I don't remember her name...I feel like that her personality is really close to her character's. C: My name's Coline... I: Coline, that's right. C: I have a lot in common with...Alex, in this case. I: I can tell. C: Yeah, I have many things in common with Alex. But it's still different, in the sense that there are some reactions won't be the same, especially since uuuh...AH! M: No, but we all have...we all have...each of our characters in us. A: Yeah, we all have a little...of course! M: I think if David* did the castings the way he did, it means that... A: He know very well who he chose! L (hesitant): Yeah... M: There had to be some things in common. L: Yeah. I (to Lula): She's a little reluctant, here! L: Well, because...because A: Huh, Daphné, no? I thought you were like that! L: Not at all! Well yeah! I think I'm the most different from my character. I: Yeah, she talks a lot! L: I do talk a lot, there's no point denying it. I talk a lot. I: Even I zoned out whenever Vilde spoke in the show. M: Oh, that's awful! L: Well you won't do that when...yeah, don't do that. No, but...yeah she talks a lot, so...there, but. M: No, but it's just that you're very dynamic! L: Yes! But it's part of the flaws of Daphné and Vilde, when compared to...Imane/Sana. It's not the case for me! I really want to distance myself from that. I: And one last question...are you ready for the change? Because there's gonna be a lot of hype around you, and, well...frankly I don't think you'll be able to walk down the street without being recognized. And are you...are you ready for that? M: Well, the thing is... A: I mean, we're actors, so we kinda know... M: We're already expecting people to stop and call us by the name of our characters. And we knew from the beginning that that's what was gonna happen. I mean just the fact of saying: "OK, I have an Instagram account of a character, in real life, for several months"...there are consequences, obviously, we know that. I don't know if I'll answer to "Manon" or "Marilyn" in the street, but... I: I think they'll call you Marilyn in the street, at least. M: I don't know...we may pretend to be our characters in real life. P: I mean, SKAM mostly speaks to a... L: A certain age group. P: Yeah, a certain age group, so it won't be like... A: Yeah, it'll be mostly young people. P: Yeah, that's it...Personally, I don't expect a tsunami in my life either! I: And, haven't you heard...Well, I heard...There was a lot of talk about Skam France...well Skam. C: Yeah, on social media? I: There was a lot of hype around it. C: There were a lot of reactions I: Currently, it's about Casa de Papel** Girls: Yeeeaaah! I: Well right now everyone's talking about that, but at some point it was just "Skam, Skam, Skam"! People only talked about Skam. L: Ah, pfff... A: I missed that! L: Yeah, me too! A: I really didn't know Skam! For real. I: Well, it created a huge buzz. M: Yeah, we arrived after that. I: We went from 7k followers to 15k in like two-three months. P: Really, that's crazy! A: Okaaay L: Yeah M: We're still discovering it...there are even new accounts I've found these past few days about the Norwegian show. L: We all share accounts...uh I: Yeah, there were three following me, we were really happy about that! Well thank you very much! Girls: Thank you, thank you very much.
*Haven’t found any info about this David, but I assume he’s the casting director... **As the name suggests, it is a Spanish TV show, and French people are currently hyped about it on social media!
