gif/gifv vs mp4

to those saying that tumblr’s decision to begin converting gif/gifv to mp4 will not significantly impact quality, here’s a side by side comparison to prove you wrong.

here’s what a normal gif (made using photoshop, sharpened and colored, dimensions are 540x615px) looks like on the tumblr dashboard:

this is what it looks like after being converted to mp4 (static image because i can’t upload the video):

if you’re a content creator, the difference is very very significant, even more so when zooming in. people who claim otherwise should maybe consider listening to gif makers who actually... create gifs??? and have a process??? that takes time and energy as it is??? and all of that will be completely undone if staff decides to implement this change sitewide. it will worsen the quality of gifs even more. it will drive content creators away from the site for good.

rather than argue to the contrary, please continue to do what you can to support creators and bring this to staff’s attention.

Key Animation: Osamu Tanabe

I'm not gonna lie and say I was familiar with Tanabe's work before watching the premier-- Yes. Feel free to boo me-- at the bare minimum I knew he was an Ex-Ghibli... But my knowledge starts and ends there. Still, a standout piece of animation from an opener that was already flexing it's animation muscles. Tanabe's drawings are loose, but the weighty timing is what grounds and humanizes them. Capturing the normalcy of urban life before disaster strikes.

If anyone needs me the crushed and broken down 8 year old inside of me is going to be crying she just heard some devastating news about a book series she liked

#context. there was this book series called avalon. #i had the first and third books. no not the second #they were beautiful. beautiful cover art. beautiful illustrations inside the books. #(they are actually still on my bookshelves. on account of being pretty.) #eventually i found the fifth book. it was hideous. #looked like some sort of low budget mass printed nightmare. ugly photoshop cover NO illustrations inside of it #i thought. oh okay. died a little inside. but i reluctantly put it next to my beautiful first and third. #saw it on goodreads while looking for a different list. checked the editions for the last book. HIDEOUS covers. they have murdered my girl. #anyway im going to console my 8 year old self she doesnt deserve this #mb's two am rambling
