Of the 19 hijackers who carried out the Sept 11 attacks:

15 were from Saudi Arabia (a powerful/oil-rich country the U.S. works hard to maintain diplomatic relations with)

2 were from the United Arab Emirates (also a powerful/oil-rich country the U.S. works hard to maintain diplomatic relations with)

1 was from Egypt, 1 from Lebanon.

None of the hijackers were from Iraq.

The Baptizer understood his role. His faithful service—which Jesus acknowledged after Herod had John arrested (Matthew 11:9-10)—was just that: service. John recognized that his primary work was to set the stage for the Messiah.

Our role in God’s work is similar. Like John, let us find our fullest joy in bearing witness, embracing the lesser role that points to the Savior and says, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” (John 1:29).

I almost told a family member about the riots against Jews in Dagestan, then I realized their reaction would be "all Muslims are terrorists".

We have got to stop this cycle.

Hate the ones who have actually hurt. Don't hate every member of a group.

Fear distorts reality. Everyone (or many, perhaps most) has the potential for violence under the right conditions--if they let a mob mentality take over, for instance. Focusing on "it's only Them" obscures the truth: we all have good and evil inside us. We have the capacity to choose what's good-- to see truth, that not every member of a certain group will choose evil, only evil, all the time, "thus they need erasing" (demonizing people when they're actually only human). And we have to take responsibility for our own feelings and actions-- divert our feelings toward the right sources, don't attack innocent people just because they're of the same group as someone who has attacked you.

The day before 9/11 happened, FEMA had operatives in New York City to help with the aid and clean up for the next day(September 11th). Tom kenney, a FEMA spokesperson, gave an interview to Dan Rather stating that FEMA was deployed to New York on Monday night, September 10th, to be ready to go into action 'the next day'.. on Tuesday morning, September 11th.

because I’m a bit dumb, a couple weeks ago it dawned on me, while watching jacobs ladder I think , why all 80s action films (predator, rambo, aliens) take place in some kind of jungle. Why the “treacherous jungle” is just the place where action happens. I wonder how many action movies I’ve seen in my childhood that took place in some kind of mysterious, hostile desert and it absolutely didn’t have to, and I just accepted it . How many bad guys were evil desert people, for some reason, and everyone growing up post 9/11 like me just accepted it as a film trope, not parsing out why it had changed from the evil europeans that were the bad guys in 90s action film. I was barely conscious when the propaganda was hitting my brain and I’m still kind of unpacking how many things I accepted as true about the military/america/everything are outright lies or consciously changed post 9/11 and are not necessarily inherent. So I’m kind of envious of people who were adults when it happened and can kind of. Make sense of how things changed. Because it’s wild to realize that I actually have no idea how different the world could have been before I was born, and have to learn from records/word of mouth. Like misinformation and racist distortion of reality could happen in my lifetime? Being propagandized as a child? little ole me? Idk it’s crazy to realize . Even sadder to think about millions of others who grew up like me and won’t make it out the distortion

Ground Zero Bible - 9/11 Artifact

Paper from a Bible, fused to a piece of steel, was found in the debris shortly after 9/11 by a fireman and given to photographer Joel Meyerowitz. In 2010, he gave it to the September 11 Memorial Museum.

The passage of scripture that is fused to the piece of steel is from Jesus’s famous Sermon on the Mount in Matthew chapters five through seven. The segment of that sermon that is readable says this:

“You have heard that it was said, ‘AN EYE FOR AN EYE, AND A TOOTH FOR A TOOTH.’ But I say to you, do not resist an evil person; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.”

On this day of remembrance for the lives lost, remember to not allow anger and hatred to spread through you. Instead pray for those that hate you and wish harm to you. Walk in peace today with all people so that you may be called sons and daughters of God.
