Today’s compilation:
Grammy Nominees 2000 2000 Pop / Latin Pop / Teen Pop / R&B
I think it's genuinely funny to look back on albums like these and to see some of the songs and names that the Recording Academy deemed worthy of nominating for some of the Grammys' most coveted categories: "Livin' la vida loca" for Record of the Year? Kid Rock for Best New Artist, even though he'd already put out three albums prior (and is also really bad)? Lou Bega for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, and in the same category as Andrea Bocelli? 😂 What are we even doing here, folks? What's next, a Marvel movie getting nominated for Best Picture? 😳
Anyway, regardless of some of these choices, it's always fun to take a trip down memory lane, get a bit of that nostalgia rush, and re-evaluate some of these hits that were completely inescapable two-plus decades ago.
And I think my biggest takeaway here is that, even though I still can’t help but love most of its dopey songs, the US' Latin pop boom at the turn of the millennium was, for the most part, pretty objectively terrible. "Livin' la vida loca" is pure maximalist cringe, with its "skin's the color mocha" lyric possibly being the worst line ever written in the history of pop music. And its absurd James Bond guitar motif will also never not be funny to me. Amazing to remember that people unironically enjoyed this song at one point. Like, imagine going to a normal bar at peak hours on a Saturday night in 1999 and this song comes on, and people start going nuts for it? What a time to be alive.
And same goes for "Mambo No. 5," another incredible Latin pop inanity that also happened to mesh well with that whole swing revival thing that bands like the Brian Setzer Orchestra and the Cherry Poppin' Daddies (that fucking name, man) were somehow getting away with at the same exact time. God, what musical horrors this time period wrought. And Lou Bega's not even Latin, either, by the way. He's a German native who's of Sicilian and Ugandan descent. And still, he made one of the biggest Latin pop hits of all time. Go figure.
And then there's Santana's "Smooth," which isn't actually an *awful* song on its own—at least not to nearly the same extent as those other two—but it's managed to reach such an extreme level of saturation over the years that I think it's now achieved a meme status that's akin to "All Star." I mean, that opening bar hits and you just chuckle at the utter absurdity of this song's existence at this point, right? But I actually learned a couple interesting facts about it today. One is that the guy who produced Matchbox Twenty's debut album also produced this song, and the other is that, originally, it was given to Rob Thomas in its preliminary stages, so he could work on it and then someone else could end up singing the final product, but Santana just decided that Thomas should provide the lead vocals anyway. And Thomas actually had someone like George Michael in mind instead, so try to imagine what that would've sounded like 😯.
But I swear to you all that I'm not actually an insufferably stuffy despiser of all 90s pop; I love some of the music on here. "...Baby One More Time" and that whole Swedish-produced teen pop craze has really grown on me over the years. Producer Max Martin was a total pop production genius back then and that Britney Spears debut single was one of his finest works. It has such an excellently lush final push and the song itself legitimately changed the pop music landscape forever. But I also can't help but notice some of the similarities between it and another less remembered co-production of Martin's that he did in '97 for Robyn called "Show Me Love" (not to be confused with the all-time diva house hit, "Show Me Love" by Robin S.) .
By the way, wanna see quite possibly the wrongest anyone's ever been about anything, ever? Read the following sentence from the Wikipedia article for "...Baby One More Time." The level of lack of foresight is off the fucking charts!
Tumblr media
Given what we know now, it's crazy to think how multiple people at the top of the industry could've missed this mark by so goddamn much, but they did. And maybe, had "...Baby One More Time" never been made, they might've actually been right. But as it turns out, they were the complete opposite of that.
Overall, this is a fun album for channeling more innocent times and enjoying some of the pure pop goofiness of 1999, but the idea that some of these songs ever got nominated for anything other than the musical equivalent of a Razzie by an “authoritative” institution is pretty funny in and of itself and it also reveals what an unserious organization the Recording Academy really became at some point. Like, I can't imagine, at any time, thinking that a song like "Livin' la vida loca" ever exuded any kind of level of excellence, but I'd also very much like to meet the people who did!
Highlights:
Backstreet Boys - "I Want It That Way" Ricky Martin - "Livn' la vida loca" Santana - "Smooth" TLC - "No Scrubs" Christina Aguilera - "Genie in a Bottle" Macy Gray - "Do Something" Kid Rock - "Bawitdaba" Britney Spears - "...Baby One More Time" Marc Anthony - "I Need to Know" Lou Bega - "Mambo No. 5 (A Little Bit Of...)" Sting - "Brand New Day"

Mario Duarte - Chubi
Bongiorno! Thanks for reading me once again, here, on tumblr of course.
Today's first track is called 'Chubi' (do I really have to restate the artist and the album for all 10 tracks)
This song is the first of two today, since August is ending already and I wanna take the whole month of September to publish Costarican songs (because of the Independence and the patriotic festivities).
Therefore in about half an hour there's gonna be a new song (and the last one on 'GdA') and that way we can start on the first Sunday of September with Tico songs.
Now, about Chubi (which in English would be something like 'doo-bee, doo-bee'), really REALLY good song.
It reminds me of Junior Senior a bit, I really like the chords, I think it would fit great at the end of a movie, or a TV show maybe?
Any Meaning?
Well yes, kinda, the song once again tells her (presumably) that he wants to be by her side all the time, that she's the only one, a very funky-poppy love song.

Hooked on You: After Story
Life after was something everyone had to get used to.
The boys had to be given names, full names, and thankfully Nancy who has some contacts in the newspaper industry pulled some strings for your “orphaned” family.
You didn’t give specifics, but told her that you started dating a man who was struggling to keep his family afloat. They had no records since they were living anywhere they could, and he just picked the kids up like strays. He and his best friend took care of the kids, and that it was a coincidence in meeting when you hired a ‘cleaning service’.
But it wasn’t just any name.
When you showed up with a big smile to your face at dinner, while everyone was enjoying themselves with the food, you had grasped in your hands the adoption papers for each boy in the group.
Through tears, and smiles, they had hugged you one by one, appreciating your kindness but overall, calling you a different name.
Mom.
Eddie, whose last name he chose was Munson, was stunned when he asked if they were going to call him Dad and each boy grimaced at that outcome, shaking their heads. After that Eddie had played a game of chase with the children, playing as the big bad bear, with his hands above his head, reaching for the boys.
That was another change.
“So, this is a– what?”
“Prosthetic. It’s not normal to have a hook as a second hand here, and this has motor sensors, so you can basically have another hand!” You had explained to him, and he was stunned at the realization that he could have his left hand back. But sometimes, he discards the prosthetic, and goes back to his hook because he feels complete with it, that’s what he had told you.
Steve, now Steve Harrington, had acquired the second mom title. Whenever you were gone, or busy, or simply tired, he took care of the boys, played with them, and helped them clean the house.
It was summer time, but you knew you will have to enroll the kids into school soon, but you had to teach them basic things, such as the ABC, numbers, some math, a little bit of history and biology, and Eddie and Steve listened intently, giving their own teachings here and there.
You didn’t want your boys to go into middle school without knowing at least the basics, because then everything would be too complex, so thankfully, Robin, who is a teacher, happily comes once a week to give her own teaching to the kids. You found out that Steve and her had developed a strong friendship during the two months you all had been living together.
Another thing they discovered was music.
While the kids loved normal pop songs, except for Mike who had taken a liking to punk music, Steve had loved the 80’s vibe, sticking to it, and then some 90’s, but poor Eddie had not found himself in any of those genres. He couldn’t pinpoint what it was that he might like, but it wasn’t any of that.
You had tried almost everything, latin music, grunge, rock, techno, but he was still not feeling any of those genres. You were in your room when trying everything in his music app on his phone, and you sighed when he, once again, said he didn’t feel anything from it.
“I really don’t know what else to play Eds…” He grabbed his phone, which you had taught everyone in the house how to use and bought one for each of them, and started scrolling.
“There was something about that Rock genre that you showed me… Something is there, but not fully?” You frowned in confusion at his words, and you had to think outside the box. You were showing him things you liked, so maybe, you had to show him things that you wouldn’t normally listen to.
“Hang on…” You grabbed his phone again and searched for a particular playlist. You grabbed his headphones from his night table, and urged him to put them on. He was confused, but did so anyways, and you pressed play onto the playlist.
Eddie’s eyes widened at the sudden strum of a guitar, wild, heavy, powerful, chord after chord. You bit your lip as you stared at his face, and by the smile that was spreading on his cheeks you knew that you hit the jackpot.
He spent an entire day listening to Metallica. Then the next day to Slipknot. Then Guns ‘n Roses. My Chemical Romance. Megadeth. Rammstein.
The man was a metalhead.
After finding their own music, they had to find their own style. The boys almost wore the same things, sometimes jeans, sometimes shorts, sometimes plaid shirts, sometimes stamped shirts, sneakers… Steve had gone for the rich boy vibe, as you called it. He likes polos, dress pants, tight denims, sweaters, maybe a cardigan.
Now Eddie, you were surprised. He liked everything black, ripped, and he loved the sound of chains as an accessory on his hip. When he found out there were shirts of the bands he started to like, he bought a ton of them, some in white, some in black. One thing that stayed authentic of Eddie, was the black bandana, which he sometimes uses on his head still, or he puts it in his back pocket.
But one of your favorite things in the whole day was going into your room, to finally be alone with him. He was always reading a book, and you came to find out that he loved fantasy. It was funny, because he came out of a fairytale himself, but yet he loves those kinds of books. He devoured Tolkien in a week.
He would always put whatever he was reading down to welcome you into bed, embracing you in his arms, gentle kisses that always turned into heated ones because that’s another thing that happened. He couldn’t keep himself from touching you.
And you didn’t want him to. The boys at first made gagging noises whenever he came into the kitchen for breakfast and gave you a morning kiss, lingering there more than it should, but they soon got used to it. Whenever he could, he was wrapping an arm around you, pulling you close, kissing your neck, your face, your shoulder, anywhere he saw skin.
So you had to introduce him to condoms.
He wasn’t a fan of them, but when you remembered you two didn’t use protection in Neverland, he told you to not worry. In Neverland time is completely stopped, as well as your cycle, and that would explain why you didn’t have periods while being there. You were in such a blissful experience that you didn’t even remember about your period.
But in this world, you could get pregnant, and even if you want a kid of your own with Eddie, there was still so much to get used to for him. But still, it didn’t forbid him from touching every single night, wanting to drown himself in you, and you weren’t complaining. He was always up for trying new things, and you both had discovered many together.
You taught Eddie and Steve how to drive, but there wasn’t much for you to teach because as soon as they touched the steering wheel, they immediately got the hang of it, and Eddie even described it as easy as sailing a ship. You couldn’t believe a former pirate said a car feels like a ship. With the prosthetic, driving an automatic is very easy for Eddie.
The kids love the pool, you bought a slide for it and a lot of floaters for them to swim in. You noticed how maternal you had gotten ever since getting the kids into your life, and it wasn’t something you thought of ever having. Now, you want more, for some reason. You always have to shake that thought out of your head because that would end badly.
Another thing you did, not very recommended in the summer, was getting a tattoo. You had tattooed your grandma’s drawing of Neverland. You knew there was a diary of hers, and she sometimes read the story from her own head, and sometimes from there and showed you the drawing. She explained she could see the island at the top of the clouds, while flying with Peter.
So you outlined it and tattooed it on your wrist.
When Eddie saw it, he was immediately interested, knowing about tattoos but the tribe were the only people that knew how to do it. You decided to visit the shop once with him, and he got a hook tattoo on his ankle, to test the waters of the pain. After a week, you couldn’t find him anywhere for three hours, sending you into a panic, only for him to return with six more tattoos on his body, with a wide grin on his face.
“It's summer! One is already bad, you got seven!” You had yelled at him, but he just shrugged and grinned down at you.
“I’ll get even more in winter.”
But summer was ending, as well as the boys started becoming nervous of going to school, which was a private one so they had to use uniforms for it. They complained of course, but you had promised them that the teacher they were having was going to be very patient and that you met the kids' parents of the class already and they all seemed nice and welcoming.
A week before the start of classes, you decided it was time for a last pool party, and so, you invited Nancy, Jonathan and Robin over, where Robin mentioned she had a long distance friend visiting and she had asked if they could come over with their little sister, to which you agreed.
So now, you were cutting the vegetables for the salads in your kitchen, as Jonathan helped Will start the fire outside for the BBQ. For some reason, Jonathan had taken particular liking to one of your kids, but that’s good, because Nancy had found herself teaching Mike how to play some chess, and Dustin was already attached to Eddie like a Piranha.
One of your boys, though, was sitting alone on one of the lawn chairs, looking at nothing in particular, just the ripples of the water happening  on the pool. You put down your knife, ready to go talk to Lucas, but the doorbell rings, making your head snap that way.
“Don’t worry, I got it!” Steve yells as he rushes towards the door, opening it, to see Robin, a smile on his face as they hug tightly.
“Hi there Dingus.” She pulled away from the hug to point behind her back. “My friend is unloading something and he’s right here, okay?”
“Yeah sure.” Steve turns his head to guide Robin towards the kitchen and garden where everyone is and she immediately bolts away. He hears a clear of throat and his head turns back around, only for his eyes to land on blue ones, knocking the breath out of his lungs in an instant.
“Hi, um… Hope we’re not intruding, it’s just, I’m with my sister and I couldn’t leave her alone.” The blonde man says, looking at Steve with the same hazed look in his eyes. Steve shook his head to come out of the trance he was in and smiled, putting his hand out for a shake.
“No issue at all! The boys will love her. I’m Steve by the way.” The other man smiles, his white teeth showing off as he presses his hand against Steve’s, electricity immediately coursing through their bodies.
“I’m Billy.”
“Are you going to keep flirting or…” A soft voice says from behind him, making Billy let go of Steve’s hand with a groan, a blush appearing on his cheeks as he makes way for the redheaded girl to come forward. “I’m Max.”
“Oh hi–” Steve felt the presence of someone else next to him, and he turned his head to see Lucas, staring at the girl with a dreamy look in his eyes.
“Hi… I’m Lucas.” Max’s lips tugged slightly up at the sight of the boy, her skateboard in hand. “What's that?” He pointed at it and she smiled widely, walking inside the house, grabbing onto his hand to guide him outside where everyone was.
“I’ll teach you!” Steve could hear her yell as he let Billy in. He closes the door only to see Billy looking all over the house with a confused frown on his face.
“This is big… You all live here?” He asks and Steve stands next to him, nodding as he looks around as well.
“Yep. We are grateful to her, you know. We would have…” He suddenly heard some footsteps coming over and Steve turned his head to see Eddie reaching them, with a piece of bread in his hand, his other one reaching out to shake Billy’s.
“I’m Eddie.” He greets and Billy looks down at the prosthetic hand, shaking it carefully with him, and when Eddie lets go, the blonde man’s curiosity got the best of him.
“I’m Billy– Um… how did that happen?” He asks, pointing at the hand. Eddie looks down at it and then back at Billy.
“Crocodile bit it off.” He shrugs and walks towards the kitchen once again as Billy stands there completely stunned. Steve’s eyes were bulging out of his skull almost, and he was trying to come up with another excuse because that sounded way too unreal and he didn’t want Billy to think Eddie was messing with him.
“Fucking sick.” Billy says with a smile and he looks back down towards Steve. The brown haired man lets out a sigh of relief and then nods.
“Gruesome, but yeah, sick.” Billy just stands there looking at Steve, his mind completely drifting away and Steve could even sense that, as the blonde’s eyes were just gazing into his, and that was making Steve’s heart accelerate rapidly. “W-What’s wrong?”  That made Billy snap out but his face was still the same, still staring as if his eyes were not to be trusted.
“I-I don’t know, you just seem… like you came out of a fairytale or something.” Steve couldn’t help the big smile and blush that spread on his cheeks, while Billy realized what he had just said, embarrassment filling him from head to toe, stammering on his words to try to save it but Steve was just laughing, enjoying the man’s company and voice.
You were sneaking glances through the kitchen door, a smile on your face as you bit your bottom lip. Everyone has someone in your family, your big family, and that fills you with joy. You felt an arm creep from behind you, pulling you close to a warm body. You giggle as his face immediately snuzzled in the crook of your neck, causing your skin to grow goosebumps from it.
“Eddie–”
“Don’t spy on them. Let my second in command flirt in peace.” He says in your ear and you turn around to face him, smiling widely up at him, your arms wrapping around his shoulders.
“I’m just so happy… Everyday just feels like a dream.” You say to him, and he gives you a nod, a gentle smile spreading on his lips as he leans down to kiss your cheek, then the tip of your nose, expressing his love for you.
“I will never regret the day I thought you were Wendy and kidnapped you.”
“I should sue.” He fake gasps while shaking his head at you.
“Now, you’ve hurt me Angel.” Your eyes looked to your side, seeing everyone playing with each other through the window pane you had, and your eyes filled with tears at the sight of it all. Nothing could make it better. Nothing at all… Except.
You felt Eddie grip your side, giving it a soft press to catch your attention again. You looked at him and his eyes were nervous, full of doubt yet with determination.
“Eds? What's wrong?”
“I know… The kids don’t call me dad… But–” He licked his lips while swallowing a big lump down his throat and your heart was almost out of your chest and you could hear its beating on your ears. He gives you a big grin as a tear already rolls down your cheek.
He grabs your hand and walks out of the kitchen to take you upstairs and into your grandmother’s room. He then opens the balcony’s door and steps out with you, the breeze already hitting you and the sun beaming down at your body.
“Close your eyes Angel.” He whispers in your ear as he lets go of your hand. Your breathing became heavy as you did as told, and you raised your head up, towards where the second star to the right is. You always wished on it, wished that it wouldn’t take your love away, that it wouldn’t take your children away, wished that everything was real and not a dream.
“Eddie–”
“Open them and turn around.” You did as told, turning to see Eddie on one knee, a box on his hand as his elbow rested on his knee. Your heart got caught in your throat as you looked at the diamond in the box, covering your mouth with both of your hands as tears started spilling out uncontrollably from your eyes.
“What…?”
“I want to be their dad. I want to be with you, forever, for as long as you’ll have me, or for as long as we live. You’re it for me Angel, you have been it for me from the moment you decided to fly towards me, towards the ship, instead of here.” He choked up on a sob and then took a deep breath to keep going. “I know it’s soon, but I can’t imagine my life with anyone else. In my eyes, into my future, you’re always there. You will always be there.”
You dropped to your knees, as happiness flourished in your chest, smiling through your tears as you put your left hand up, putting it on display for him. You looked up at his big doe eyes, a tear slipping out of his left one as he looked down at you as if you were the only thing keeping him alive.
And you were.
“I’m ready to be Mrs. Hook.”
And when our journey is through, each time we say "Goodnight", we'll thank the little star that shines, the second from the right.

Y’all I saw a music taste of the seven post that I felt was really inaccurate, so I had to make one of my own lmfaooo (I mean this is all subjective, it’s never really clarified in the series; no hate) .
Maybe this is a basic take, but I feel as though Percy would be a fan of late 90’s/ early 2000’s emo/rock. Think Green Day, Blink 182, All-American Rejects.
Annabeth does give me trouble. Y’all think she listens to classical? Maybe Adele. Something elegant/mature, I feel like.
Piper, I think, for sure listens to some indie artists. Think Arctic Monkey, Glass Animals, Two-door Cinema club, and Peach Pit. “Alrighty Aphrodite” is probably a jam for her.
I’d like to think Leo probably listens to some Latin music. Maybe raggaeton? Bad Bunny, J Balvin. Something absolutely bumping while he works in Bunker 9.
Frank. I do feel like maybe he’s just not a huge music fan in general. Like he will listen to whatever, but he’s not out here making Spotify playlists.
Hazel is a fan of swing. She’s from that era and it’s still her fave. Benny Goodman. Ella Fitzgerald. Duke Ellington. “Don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing” 😔 ✌🏼
Jason is a little basic bitch fr. He listens to Taylor Swift, and Olivia Rodrigo. He’s into that girly pop, TRUE pop music. Lauv and, like, Shawn Mendes as well. I saw a post that theorized he didn’t really listen to music until after becoming detached from camp Jupiter, and I liked it so I’ll use this post to say I second the theory, lmao.

★ mariah carey's mercury is in pisces (detriment) which explains her fragile voice (nodules since she was very young, rapid vocal decline etc).
★ same with christina aguilera's mercury in sagittarius (detriment) and her singing with poor technique leading to a rapid vocal decline.
★ the houses are opposite each other for a reason: you need to find balance between the two houses. to achieve inner peace and a sound inner being (12H), you need to work on self improvement and provide service to others (6H). to find your true values and inner worth (2H), you need to heal and regenerate (8H).
★ the neptune in aquarius that my generation was born under has led us to be delusional about certain forms of "activism" (cancel culture) and has led to a LOT of performative activism seeing as neptune rules performers and aquarius rules progressive thinking and activism.
★ a lot of pioneering singers / artists are aries suns (sun rules natural talents) makes perfect sense! more proof that astrology never fails us.
aretha franklin - influenced the way people sing majorly, blended gospel with jazz, blues and r&b, used music as activism, known as the queen of soul, birthed generations of singers after her
diana ross - lead singer of the most successful motown group, the supremes, inducted in the Guinness Book of World Record as "the most successful female music artist in history", has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
selena quintanilla - broke down barriers for female singers in tejano music, known as queen of tejano music, one of the greatest performers of all time, opened doors for other latin musicians such as jennifer lopez and shakira.
lady gaga - broke down barriers for women in music and revolutionised pop music and popularised synthpop, used controversy to bring attention to issues, influenced her peers and later artists
elton john - revoluntionised rock + pop , lgbtq+ icon, inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame + Songwriters Hall of Fame + appointed a CBE + has been knighted by Queen Elizabeth II
marvin gaye - inspired the use of black music to discuss personal and sexual politics in the 1970s til this day, influenced soul & r&b music greatly, combined gospel, soul, pop and jazz, one of the first motown artists to break free from the production system which paved the way for stevie wonder
mariah carey - introduced melismatic singing to the mainstream + introduced pop & rap collabs, blended r&b, pop and hip hop together, one of the greatest vocalists of all time, influenced a generation of singers, was the Artist of the Decade in the 90s, is an inductee of the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
★ oppositions can be much harder to deal with than squares since squares need motivation and drive (even though it comes with work and difficulty), whereas oppositions require a balance (comes with a lot of pulling and instability)
★ neptune aspecting beneficial planets can trick you into believing the aspect is good until the damage is done (venus - neptune could see their s/o as a fantasy even if the relationship is very toxic)
★ neptune in 4th doesn't always mean you have a distant mother. it can also mean you have are distant from your family / ancestry. there can also be a long lost family member or a family secret.
★ check to see if asteriod medusa (149) aspects your sun because it can dramtically change the way your sun is expressed (in my personal experience)
★ not enough people talk about "mundane" houses like the 6H even though it is one of the most important since it represents daily life
★ the possession and intensity a lot of you associate with scorpio is really taurus and a lot of the stubbornness associated with taurus is really aquarius
★ stop associating zodiac signs with mental illnesses!! why does gemini = mania? why does aquarius = god complex?
★ jupiter - neptune (natal and transits) can be very very harmful. along with the expansion of fantasy + arts (can be good), you also get the excessive (jupiter) disillusionment and not being able to see things as they are (neptune).
★ back to singers with neptune ruled mercuries (pisces / 12H) or aspecting neptune, people can view their voice as perfect and can find it hard to point out the flaws in it (especially the fanbases)

Did someone ask for more radio stations? XD Right, so let me tell you--I've not only added more radio stations, but I also updated a few of them as well as having made "add-on" versions to a few of the stations. Add-on stations are "added on" to the already existing stations in Sims 3: Soul, Disco, Spooky, Pop, Latin, and Electronica. Only three of these need base game, so you're fine there. However, 70's, 80's, & 90's Stuff is required for the Disco station (( I will leave 'NuDisco' up for those without it )), Ambitions is required for 'Soul', and Movie Stuff is required for 'Spooky' (( again, will leave the 'Harvest' station up for those without this pack )). And maybe it will work if you don't have the pack--can anyone confirm this? Also, if you want me to make a separate station for 'Soul', please let me know. New stations include: Alternative, University Rock, METAL, Romance, and Talk Radio. The "Romance" station is not pictured in the above because, for some reason, I never made it originally? Like... why didn't I ever do that? XP Honestly, I thought I had. Apparently not, and when I was testing the other stations out, I was in the middle of making the 'Romance' station. I broke down the massive University Station into other parts, adding them to other stations and then making it its own station, similar to the Geek Rock station, with less songs. Please note that while I'll most likely keep the University Station up for DL, I won't be updating it anymore. The Housemix station was updated to include some techno songs as well. Other changes include that none of the stations have the word "station" attached to it now. :D Alright, onto the music list~ Soul: I Will Survive Lean On Me Hello Sunshine Fwoob I'll Be Around Romance: Love In Your Eyes Love Is True Never Be Lonely Iffen Dona Bin Gau Zumbray Electronica: Feelin' Spline Briando Simlify Beautiful Now Bobolicious Mr. Boboto Monday Nite Cabin Fever METAL: Cassie Zomberribe Forastu Mordoo Bleed Into Me The Legend Of Mother Swan Man's Fire It Is Progression If A Cannibal Uses A Fork? random little post to spruce up the posting on here because I live and die by the queue function and by god have I been forgetting to add to it
presenting: what music I think the villains listen to
//note : this is based mostly off of people I associate with the villains because everyone I hang out with is a music freak. if you think an 50 hour playlist is bad, wait until you get a hold of my best friend's 600 hour one
Giovanni
No way in hell this man isn't a swing fan. His playlist is exclusively 50's—70's and there is no coherent genre. If you listen to music with him you could be vibing to Marvin Gaye and then Elvis could come on.
Maxie
Pry Roar and The Front Bottoms from his cold, dead hands. Just BIG Folk Punk vibes from him. Also, a good amount of Alt-Rock. His guilty pleasure, though? Country music. He's probably the one that listens to the most music, just because he feels like the kind of guy that can't work without background noise.
Archie
Very well rounded, says he doesn't have a preference, but has a slight one for rock music. Specifically he enjoys 80s & 90s metal. He feels like the kind of guy to be really into Megadeth. Maybe sprinkle some Tech N9ne in there for flavor.
Cyrus
Realistically he's definitely a full Alternative fan. I think he's super into Weirdcore (See: Lemon Demon, Will Wood) but would never admit it. He also listens to Emo Rap and Russian Rap on occasion but doesn't really consider them favourites. He pretends he doesn't like music, though, so he only really gets to listen to what other people force him to.
Ghetsis
Screamo, next question—
Kidding, but he really does like screamo, metal, and hard rock. He'll pretend he only likes vague classical music to seem more mysterious and then you look at his history and it's all Slaughter to Prevail and Korn.
Colress
I like to think he doesn't really listen to music in his free time. He usually listens to whatever is on, which is usually Ghetsis's screamo. He keeps him from ruining speakers. He does enjoy Green Day, though, and some Olivia Rodrigo.
Lysandre
He really likes single instrument covers, especially violin. Absolute Lindsey Stirling fanboy. Also enjoys Lana Del Rey and MARINA a lot. Those kinds of pop artists, you know?
Guzma
He's definitely the most well-rounded with his tastes, mostly because he listens to a lot of it. He listens to a lot of pre-2010s hip-hop & rnb. He loves dance music and electronica as well, and generally just a lot of old school stuff. Anything from 2pac to Gewn Stefani, baby. Mood/genre-switched covers are also a thing, and just covers in general. Catch him in his room at 2am listening to egg on repeat (then back away awkwardly and shut the door because he gets too into it and starts crying).
Lusamine
Listens to a lot of what Lysandre does. Lorde, Billie Eilish, anything hard pop that can pass as alternative. Nobody will ever trust her with the aux/bluetooth/radio/etc. because she always plays music nobody likes. She once got into a fight with Cyrus on what is and isn't alternative music and he didn't speak to her for a month after.
Bonuses, villains I don't include on the blog
Rose
Classical music. Bach & Chopin always playing from his office. More for ominous ambiance than anything, but he does genuinely enjoy it.
Oleana
She doesn't really listen to music, but she likes rap. She won't go out of her way to listen to anything, though.
Volo
Echoey latin chants with ambient noises in the background /hj. If he was in the modern day, I think he'd like NF and Panic! At the Disco.

Today’s compilation:
Bääärenstark!!! Frühjahr 2000 2000 Schlager / Pop / Adult Contemporary / Europop / Pop-Rock / Latin
Alright, well, this is one of the worst things I've ever listened to, but let's at least try to make this post an educational one, shall we? Schlager, translated from German to English, simply means "hit," as in "hit song." And schlager isn't so much a genre as it is a style; this double-disc has regular pop, pop-rock, dancy Europop, traditional folk-pop, and even some country and Latin on it, and all of it's schlager.
So I think the best way to properly explain schlager then is to compare it to something else: are you familiar at all with those schmaltzy adult contemporary pop ballads of the 80s and 90s, like "I Swear" by All-4-One, "Save the Best for Last" by Vanessa Williams, or any number of Celine Dion belters? All that over-the-top, edgeless sentimental cheesiness? That's sort of what schlager is like. You take all that ballad goo, apply it to a range of different popular genres, and then you sing it all in German.
And essentially what you end up with is the most boring, basic, and anodyne music imaginable that’s far worse than any of those aforementioned adult contemporary tunes. Like, I really cannot believe that there's something of a robust industry for this pure and utter crap. None of these songs have any pretension of trying to be cool or progressive, or even ironic, and there's no intention of trying to ruffle any feathers either. Older folks in the US, by default, prefer to listen to the music of their youth, which is tame now, but at least it was viewed as either controversial, newfangled, or cutting-edge at some point.
Plus, the acts that were popular with each successive generation, if they're fortunate enough, get to live on a nostalgia circuit until their dying days, performing their songs that were once perceived as cool or hip for the generations in which they flourished.
But these songs, all of which are contemporary, are never going to go on that journey from cool to tame, because they're simply not remotely cool in the first place. And they have no inkling to be. There is not a patina of rebelliousness or hedonism or adventurism to be found within a single split-second of either of these discs. And as an American, the idea of not even making any kind of attempt to appear cool to any generation from the outset feels so far removed from what we know draws so many people to music in the first place. And I am just so genuinely gobsmacked here by this style of music's continued existence and the fact that there is still a palpable demand for it. It simply does not compute with my American brain. Who has ever willingly listened to music that could never objectively be regarded as cool, or, at the very least, impressive, in any tangible way? Schlager heads, it seems.
But then again, I guess this is like the German music equivalent of watching movies made by the Hallmark Channel: poorly and cheaply made productions in which nothing very interesting happens in them at all, but the simplicity and overall lack of tension is actually the selling point. I guess that's why the mascot for this release is a big, blue, cuddly cartoon bear attending a carnival, with chocolate-covered fruit on a stick in one paw and cotton candy in the other. Like, you'd actually think this was made for kids, but it really just seems to be an overt appeal to those seeking something truly so saccharine and banal that'll allow them some brief escape from this complex and changing world that they appear to grow more and more alienated from with each passing day.
So, with the adult contemporary industry all but pretty much dried up in the US, Americans, as they age, tend to turn towards what they grew up with, rather than latching onto something current that's been tailored to them. But German-speaking countries appear to not have as much of a problem with keeping their adult contemporary industry afloat, and part of that success, it seems, can be chalked up to the self-lobotomizing awfulness that is schlager.
No highlights.

Here is something to think about. The Tf boys taste of music. Here is my theory :
Will: younger days he would have listened to some hard rock. Even some music his parents listened to. Later on it would be something soothing. Yet he still listens to his classics.
Benny: oh baby boy loves his 90's. Mostly boy bands . Some 80's . He too love his rock. Until he is older. Enjoys some old country music. Sure he would blast some rock when he drives.
Santi : Mr matallica. Blasts it all the time. When he is alone? He loves slow songs. Few ballades. Plays them on his guitar ( him and Benny plays guitar in secret . Till someone tells their secret.)!
Frankie: simple. He listens to anything. He would be singing and dancing around. Him and Santi would belt out a few Spanish tunes for fun.
Love to read your thoughts on this.
I'm inspired by listening to my Spotify playlist
Hi @itspdameronthings ... Again you grace my inbox with another fantastic question and headcanon of your own!
I agree with a lot of your points, but here's my thoughts below the fold...
Will - I totally agree with your assessment that he's into classic rock because his dad and uncle listened to it. He doesn't listen to as hard of rock anymore, opting for more low-key, mellow stuff. He's not one to shy away from a concert, although he would prefer a festival to a small venue because being cooped up with that many people would make him too anxious. At least with a festival he can roam and find some space.
Benny - The idea of Benny being into boy bands makes my heart sing! I love that! I also think he's into rock and based on the KISS shirt he wears in the movie I think he also likes the 80's classics because it's what he listened to in the car growing up. But I also think he likes 90's/early 2000's rock and metal, especially when he's at the gym. He was definitely involved in a few mosh pits when he was younger. Spoiler for Delta Landscaping but DL Benny is also a musician, but plays more mellow stuff on his guitar.
Santiago - My dude is all over the place. He loves rock, pop, r&b (mostly when in the bedroom), and of course any Latin music. Santi is the dancer of the group, so he knows all sorts of styles from salsa to merengue to bachata (and he's amazing at it all).
Frankie - He has a soft spot for 90's hip hop and R&B and that's not totally me giving he and I something in common. But he's so easy going, he'll listen to whatever the guys have on. He'll get out on the dance floor too, usually because Santi has dragged him for wingman duties.
How'd I do?

UMK 2024 Song Review - Vox Poppuli
The hype is very real around Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu (UMK), the Finnish national selection for Eurovision and the race to Malmö ends with another rap entry!
Mikael Gabriel x Nublu - Vox Poppuli
youtube
Mikael Gabriel is one of the best known Finnish artists who started his career back in 2007 and has since released 7 studio albums and multiple smash hits. He's had more number #1s than one can count!
A big name UMK audience has been requesting to participate to the contest for years.
His mother is estonian which might explain why he is collaborating now with Nublu, highly succesful rap artist in Estonia. This is surely one of the most interesting UMK entries this year.
Tumblr media
Vox Poppuli means in Latin the voice of the people. The song begins with eurodance entry but moves quickly to the 90's / 2000's rock-pop sound that will continue throughout the song. This reminds me of Blink 182 or similar rock band. There's a young energy here despite of its nostalgic sound for older generation.
As a rap song and as a non-rap music fan - this might be the least irritating of the rap songs in UMK24 - also even though musically this seems to be a bit tedious, one note kind of thing, I think this is delivering the crazy fun act better than Windows95man which had kind of similar idea with his performance. I like the choir a lot! Also points for Nublu's rap part in Estonian and not in English.
This has already become somewhat a domestic hit gathering views on Youtube and streams on Spotify. This is easy to listen even though not your cup of tea, it's radio friendly with a catchy memorable chorus and therefore a potential UMK winner. Also MG enjoys a loyal and young fandom so it is expected them to pick up their phones and vote on Saturday night.
Video clip keeps you hooked and we can expect a crazy staging at Nokia Arena at Tampere!
What do you think of the seventh UMK24 track and would you vote for Mikael Gabriel x Nublu to go all the way to Malmö? UMK final takes place on February 10th!

Mario Duarte - Cinco Pistolas (Conco Pistolas)
Hello again! Thanks for reading me, from wherever you are either it is your couch, your bed, on a train, on the International Space Station (what a reach)
This Thursday's song (that I totally posted on Sunday) is 'Cinco Pistolas', the 8th track on Mario Duarte's only album ever, 'Golpe de Ala'. A kinda reggae track, some jungle vibes, really good.
I want to make a clarification about this song's name:
Cinco Pistolas is the right name. Whoever inputted the information on discogs.com wrongfully wrote 'Conco' instead of 'Cinco'. However I am using both so that if someone does not know this and looks for 'Conco Pistolas' they'll be able to find it easily. I also went ahead and submitted the corrections for it on discogs
That said, let's talk about this song itself.
'Cinco Pistolas' is a song that was originally played by Mario Duarte and his band for his album 'Golpe de Ala', however, "La Derecha" re-recorded a version of it as well.
You may know this song if you watched the Colombian movie 'El Carro'
Any Meaning?
At this point (way too late maybe) I noticed that the lyrics on 'Golpe de Ala' are either A) way too abstract and don't really have a meaning or B) way too abstract and they do have a meaning but because they are that abstract it's difficult to pinpoint exactly what is going on with them.
For this one, the best I can make out is that it talks to a loved one (could be like his mother or his significant other) and that no matter what, they'll always be in his heart and mind; kinda similar to the meaning of Natalia LaFourcade's 'Hasta la Raíz'.
Also that the five guns that the song talks about are his five senses, but that is very literally mentioned on the lyrics.

edit: adding La Derecha version here: spotify, youtube
