61. From Hare to Eternity

Can you believe it took them 61 episodes to implement crochet into an Alice in Wonderland show? Took them long enough. XD

I wanted to draw the Queen saving the day, but June Hare called and I had to answer. Here he is telling his Ma all about how he saved the Queen’s life. I know I've already drawn this concept before, but I wanted to draw June again. I just had to. ((I also love the choreography of her using her hip to close the oven. It kills me. ))

I also noticed for the first time that Queenie is wearing sneakers for the “Heroic Hare” number. Probably because she actually had to do some fancy footwork.

I was on Pinterest looking for a reference to use for a family portrait drawing and OH MY GOD I FOUND A FAMILY WEARING HARE’S PINK SUIT (I call it the pink suit anyways). I seriously always thought that the Adventures in Wonderland crew custom-made all the costumes - including Hare’s suits (I mean, I’m sure they custom-made certain ones like Hatter’s suit). Like I thought Hare’s pink suit was possibly even a hand painted pattern.

The level of excitement I got from stumbling across this is embarrassing…

In Disney romance is dead.

My advice for anyone who loves a good romance - you won't find it in Disney.

They are known for making some of the most romantic animated films of all time - Beauty and The Beast (90s version) is a classic example.

But recently Disney have been pouring cold water on romance in their movies.

And, believe it or not, the rot began waaay back in 2010 with of all things Alice in Wonderland.

It was a delightful film. Most of all I loved the chemistry between Mian Wasikowska's 'old soul' Alice and Johnny Depp's charming but tormented Tarrant Hightopp (aka Hatter).

I was saddened when at the end she returned to 'real life' and to a life without romance, but heartened when they announced a sequel...only for Alice to once again leave Wonderland, this time for a reason I found appalling - to look after her mother, an unpleasant woman who showed little affection for Alice - and she also had another daughter she was much closer to.

Any reason to keep Alice and the Hatter apart for ever.

And please - don't start with the 'Johnny is too old for Mia' crap, because this isn't about Johnny and Mia, but Alice and the Hatter, and Alice was the more mature one!

But, since AiW I have noticed bit by bit romance in Disney productions is dying.

Mulan - the live action version removed the romantic lead.

Star Wars - Han and Leia's relationship had come to an end. Finn/Rose is quashed in TROS.

And of course, 'Goddess of Jedi Dogma Rey'......doesn't need a boyfriend. Doesn't need anyone and anybody, apparently.

Now it has happened with Loki.

Loki, Thor's tormented God of Mischief, will spend eternity trapped in a tree with no one to love him. Because these days it seems that there is no redemption but death.

Waaaay back in my 20s I was an avid reader of the Dragonlance books. My favourite character was Raistlin Majere. Physically frail but incredibly strong willed and powerful, I pitied and despised him in equal measures when I first started reading the books, but my opinion changed dramatically when he did one thing.

As the heroes were escaping danger Raistlin suddenly went back, to his friends' chagrin, and returned with - Bupu, the little gully dwarf who had been their guide. And who the big, strong men - had completely forgot about. And the only one willing to risk his life to save her was Raistlin.

I started to love his character then.

Probably one of the most tragic figures in fantasy I desperately wanted Raistlin redeemed. Don't get me wrong - he did some terrible things. But, it all came from a place of pain. And I wanted him to get a 'happy ending'. Because this is fantasy folks - and if you can't find happy endings in make believe, where can you find them?

But ultimately....he didn't. I was devastated.

But, there was always Star Wars.

Not anymore.

The Skywalkers are all dead, along with Han Solo. And apparently Adam Driver confirmed in a recent interview Ben aka Kylo...was never meant to be redeemed. That he was meant to die evil.

And also...Harrison Ford actually didn't want Han to die in TFA. Despite years ago wanting to kill his character off, Ford over the years mellowed a lot to him.

Abrams wanted him to die at his son's hands so we, the audience, would hate Kylo. That we would cheer his death. That we would embrace Rey as his replacement.

But they made a drastic mistake.

Because Rey - is a bore.

She may tick the boxes but she is frankly utterly unmemorable as a hero. She's an archetype.

The most memorable character was Kylo. And the 'reylo' romance was the highlight of the ST. No matter how much Finn fans moan. No matter how much the 'woke' criticised it. Because Rey was at her most interesting when interacting with Kylo.

And it wasn't just we fans of it who noticed it - Rian Johnson did.

And the critics did.

But, Disney refused to listen and gave us TROS. Now they intend to continue with their soulless heroine in a new film, or series of films, whilst removing the prince from their forthcoming LA Snow White.

Why?

To satisfy #metoo, who apparently were the 'consultants' on the LA Little Mermaid? Which underperformed at the BO?

Frankly, to quote Rhett Butler ....I myself don't give a damn.

Bad enough that Raistlin had a sad ending. Bad enough Loki did. But Star Wars, the film series that had at its heart a message of hope - sorry Disney, SW was the last straw. I loved it for forty plus years. I was 12 when I first saw it. I was 54 when I watched it die with TROS.

Disney turned Lucas's saga into a horror story. And it was meant to be a fairytale.

Fairytales have happy endings. Real life is often heartbreaking and disappointing. Fairy Tales are our escape.

Disney, once the master of fairtales....have completely crushed them.

No romance. No love. No forgiveness.

No redemption but death.

If all someone can expect is that....why bother 'turning good'? Why bother at all?

This makes sense and even if i agree that mr harry edward styles will not pass as an icon/legend to the future generations (he and his team made way to many pathetic failed attempts god of rock, king of pop to still have credibility) he will sadly still be a big name (at least in the pop area) for who knows how many years, even his casual fans/listeners believe of him as some sort of new Freddie Mercury/David Bowie (which is quite insulting to them tbh) i feel like the only people who don't think that higly of his underserving ass are locals, but his fandom is huge (and crazy) and believe it or not there are plenty of people who enjoy some of his music without being crazy about him that still follow the narrative of the new revelation harry styles, and that's enough people to make someone's name huge and shiny for many many years which considering the new way of consuming music/concerts, the new fan culture it's probably more important then pass as an icon (madonna is considered an icon but is she still relevant today? Not really) will mr harry edward styles still be relevant in 5/6 years? probably, 10/12 years? maybe, 15/20? probably not anymore but does it really matter when he's living his best life right now

(Of course things can change look at kanye west, justin bieber they had such a huge support and now most of the general public has a very low opinion of them but they did a lot of shit too before, styles has a literally god send pr team to cover every one of his mistakes, a way too powerful label with plenty of connection, it's not impossibile for people to wake up but it's very difficult i wouldn't hope on that to happe tbh)

Unless he changes things with his next album (if he makes one), future generations are going to remember him as an almost one-hit wonder with AIW (because it was so huge and overshadows WS and SOTT).

His fans love the rest of his songs, but they had no real impact on the charts. People aren't going to remember them in 10 years--or even 5 years. Madonna had a string of hits in the 80s and 90s. Queen (Freddie Mercury) had a string of hits in the 70s and early 80s. David Bowie had a string of hits in the 70s and early 80s. That's career longevity--and why those people are remembered and considered legends.

As for Justin and Kanye, Harry Edward Styles has not had a real PR scandal like those two did. He's had missteps that his team has been able to brush aside--like that Grammy speech.

A lil bit spoiler for chap 7

From chap 7 on twst we know that the valley of Thorns has once go at war withthe kingdom of roses bcs of a mad king named Stefan (hearts? Roscent??).

So uhh i decided to make the entire history after the war. Idk man...

So king Stefan surely have a heir or heiress right? And i imagine that bcs of the tyranny of king Stefan still present at the royal court there will be somekind of rebellion, a coup if you will. And kill the entire royal family french revolution style.

Cardan, desiring the throne he make the plot with the group to overthrow the current royal family.

But there is one surviving member of the royal family, the crown prince. Let's name him Cardan. So there is surely some people that still supports the royal family and run away with Cardan to escape.

So they are kinda strays i guess? They stays in the isolated part of twisted wonderland and make a rebel group.

Oh yeah after the hostile government take over, the royal family of hearts (i am 90% sure that the royal family of the kingdom of roses descended from the queen of hearts herself) is replaced with the family of white (ahaha AIW references).

So this is where a certain blond haired blue eyes boy come in. He is from the same world as Yuu aka the earth just from different time (medieval) so this maybe will explain how or prove that this yuu is not the only one that have fallen to this twisted wonderland.

Lets call the boy Arthur.

Cardan found Arthur in the woods lost and confused. Cardan slowly explain that this place is called Twisted wonderland.

"How can i trust you," the boy asked narrowing his eyes at cardan

"I have revealed my identity to you isn't it? It's actually a rare case that i revealed my identity to anybody so tell me yours lost Alice" Cardan explained and smiled a warm smile

"My...my name is not Alice my name is Arthur, Arthur Wondré," Arthur bit his lip a habit he does if he nervous.

"Nice to meet you Arthur," Cardan offered his hand.

And that's the start of their friendship. They are allies, brothers even. Slowly but surely Cardan opens up about his trauma seeing his mother's head cut, or his burden as the leader of this rebel group.

"Truthfully, i don't really care about the throne," Cardan sighed and Arthur looks at him confused.

"Then why are you fighting for it then?" Arthur asked.

"To keep everyone here save, you see Alice after the coup everyone on the kingdom of roses reached out to other kingdom to hunt us down if i successfully take the throne back maybe they'll be safe."

"You do all of this for them?"

"Yes, for Wicher for general Spade for Gillian for Thomas for...you," Cardan looke at Arthur warmly but Arthur can sense the tiredness behind him.

Cardan reached out to a certain second prince of the afterglow savanna (no I'm not talking about leona) and make an alliance with him, he even speak to the high priest of the city of flowers asking for advice.

The day for the rebellion came day by day, the air around the base begining to tighten up.

The weapons are ready, the tactics are ready.

Little did they know there are a traitor among them.

Cardan run through the muddy cave below the kingdom of roses. He have told General spade to evacuates the citizen of the kingdom.

Nefala already know his motives but he know he will not say that to anybody. He liked him, seen himself inside Cardan. The throne is taken from him just like Cardan.

He reached the small room. The room crafted from the rocky walls of the cave painted with words upon words of the old anthem.

He eyed the room.

He has been here before, he has been here two times, he didn't have the courage to do that.

But he will now.

'Not everyone is made for the throne, but if the crown fits wear it.'

He remembers Nefala's words. About leadership. About the thing they both had yet everyone closed their eyes on them.

This is, this is the day.

"Withering Roses," Cardan whisper as sparks of fire danced on his fingers.

He reached out to the button that has formed in front of him.

"What are you doing?"

An unfamiliar voice sings, Cardan turns around to see none other than his cousin.

White hair contrasting his own black, blue eyes contrasting his own red they are opposites the noble say.

"I'm doing this for them."

"No," Elijah shook his head "you're doing this for you, no one wants this," Elijah harden his Expression.

"There is once a saying, from a traitor," he eyed one of the lyrics at the wall.

Cheshire cat.

"The history is repeated unless we destroy the cycle," Cardan finishes, bringing his hand atop of his head.

A salute.

An explosion.

A salute upon this destroyed kingdom.

Her unfinished wish.

The AIW is a modern rifle using the latest in design technology and manufacturing methods, to produce an exceptionally reliable and accurate weapon. The magnified optic means the user can engage threats from greater distances whilst the signature reduction system works to mask the AIW from detection from sight and hearing. Supplementing the current in-service L85A3, the AIW system has been secured under a £90 million contract with Macclesfield-based company Edgar Brothers.

While I feel like overexposure and negativity that comes with it is bad it is kind of has a silver lining to it. Being everywhere helps to broaden your audience and give your name and music a publicity that can't be achieved in any other way. While it is bad negativity spreads faster than positivity. This is the situation of all publicity is good publicity. And for every 5 people that hates 1 person will checkout his music. And considering the bad publicity in harry's case was spitgate and dwd gossip I'd say it's not as bad and people won't remember it once he goes away . I feel like harry broadened his audience worldwide and no longer has his fame concentrated in uk us. I am an Indian and I was shocked by the amount of my friends who used harry's house songs for their status and story. It is really hard for other foreign musicians to break into this market. Now 90% of my friends know who harry styles is. Harry's house had a worldwide impact that most albums in 2022 didn't have. And not a lot of celebrities gets overexposed no matter how much news time they get. It's simply not being able to escape them IRL or SM. You already have to be huge to be overexposed but reaching there means you are in a completely different level than most of the peers. Harry being inescapable means he is already in that level.

i think the negativity is also far more dramatized, and somewhat more limited to, america (and the uk). all of this stuff is just perpetuated in an outsized way here, and i don't feel that international audiences are particularly concerned about some of that noise. you're very right about publicity - social media can amplify the negativity, but it isn't a true reflection of reality/life, and the hateful people are LOUD, but they're typically not a majority. the people who feel positively can be far more laid back, may not be directly involved with the "fandom," and so on, whereas the space of stan twitter is fundamentally comprised of reactive people, so you've got the mega fans and the haters on either side fighting, and it leads to a combative atmosphere, but not a balanced one. bad publicity spreads quickly, it also passes fairly quickly (when it's something that isn't actually serious, that's a different discussion, of course!). whereas positive publicity and establishing one's character and artistry lasts.

I feel like harry broadened his audience worldwide and no longer has his fame concentrated in uk us...Harry's house had a worldwide impact that most albums in 2022 didn't have. oh for sure! it was really The Album of last year pop culturally. they used AIW in celebrations around the world!!! and i really enjoy hearing your perspective from india, it's so cool to know a bit about the way he's broken through there. he definitely reached another level of fame and recognition, and that comes with both unfortunate downsides and great upsides. the people who are taking shots right now will mostly burn out and move on to something else to complain about, and like i've said before, the people who like him and care about that and enjoy his music are going to stick, and that's what matters.

Those three are all in the top 40, too. Louis can't chart even in the 90s despite doing promo every day since his single was released.
