it wasn't a bad episode exactly? like I'm not mad about it in the way I've been about like, Athena begins or i think, rage? but like, it should kind of be frowned upon to follow up a week off with such a lacklustre episode i feel like the title promised either angst or jinxed level comic shenanigans and provided neither and that's pretty disappointing (also like literally no-one's stories moved ahead? except buck's, just barely, which felt like a wasted opportunity but we'll see where it goes)

okay I wasn’t in the fandom at the time so if you want to share I would LOVE to know the tea on ghost stories and what it was originally

okay first of all when did you join the fandom bc it feels like you've been here forever

second of all CHRIST okay so. disclaimer that I could be misremembering some things and I don't have anyone on the inside leaking info but like

-one of the original bts pics from ghost stories included eddie but. for whatever reason. he ended up being completely absent from the finished ep with NO mention or explanation

-there was supposed to be a plot with the 118 responding to a woman who had a medical emergency after her roommate calls 911 except. gasp! she doesn't HAVE a roommate ooooooh spooky must be ghosts. and iirc this plot is pretty much all we saw in the weekly promo

-in theory it should have aired (as 5x06) right after 5x05 on october 25th. this makes sense it's a halloweeny vibe AND picks up where the 5x05 maddie cliffhanger left off. except then fox gives them a week break (because of the world series iirc) so it would air november 1st. except

-they SWITCH the episode order and decide to drop the hostage ep instead. we see them doing a bajillion reshoots including the scenes for the husband and wife murder for hire plot with lou and taylor (derogatory) that took up an ungodly amount of the episode (they then switched 5x08 and 5x09 ALSO at the last minute and ALSO in a way that made less sense since 5x07 ended with taylor bullshit that comes back in 5x09. Lol)

-this is besides the point but last I checked hulu had it listed as "ghost stories (halloween)" which is. not the title and idk why it's like that

-also the new 5x06 (hostage ep) accidentally dropped on hulu the morning BEFORE it aired which is also besides the point but like. again. Lol

-they then brought the actress from the ghost roommate emergency back for the elevator call in 5x10. again not the point I just think it's nice that they did that :)

in conclusion: we don't know if they made the last minute changes to scrub any mention of halloween because of the changed air date or for some other executive meddling reason. we don't know why eddie/ryan was absent or if he was present in the original script. all I personally know is that I hate this ep (as much as I hate any 911 ep which tbf is not very much) and I hate that it's still raising my blood pressure over a year and a half later

OOO this is a good question. honestly off the top of my head i can't for the life of me think of any episodes i dislike, but in terms of re-watchability i know i usually skip over ghost stories (5x07) when doing a rewatch just bc there’s more taylor and less eddie than i like LOL

i can’t organize my thoughts well, but hopefully this will make sense. the identity theme posts got me thinking, might Jonah be involved with the hacker from the beginning of the season? i’ve seen all the Jonah is evil spec, and now i’m just thinking thoughts 🤔

Hey Nonnie

Well Jonah wasn't there in 5a, but thats because they didn't need a cast actor for that part of the storyline. The writers would've plotted out the entire season at the beginning before they started writing scripts etc. Obviously during the writing process things get moved around and changed (see 5x07 and the missing ghost room mate storyline for example) for a whole host of reasons - so they make more sense, or they might discover a plot hole they need to fix etc. Nothing is fully set in stone (until it airs) but the main arcs will have been decided on and worked through its just a case of then creating the scenes that tell those various arcs as well as possible. The Hacker story has more than likely been there since early on as part of a bigger arc and only the writers know what they fully plan to do with it until we see more.

Of course it might not be resolved this season - it might be something they want to bring back later - as we've seen them do with other storylines, but myself and a lot of others in fandom were never satisfied/convinced with the Hacker just going 'poof' into thin air seemingly to never been seen again - 911 is very good at tying up loose ends and that was a big one not to have any resolution.

Basically what I'm trying to say is that Jonah has been there all along - we as a fandom just didn't have a name for him until Bryce Durfee was cast. So if all our speculating turns out to be correct, Jonah has been the hacker all along we just couldn't see him in corporeal form until 5b!

9. worst part of canon

i was gonna say hen cheating on karen (imo it can be really fun when characters cheat with each other but i always get itchy when couples that you're supposed to be rooting for cheat on each other) so their s1 arc was a serious contender...but then i remembered that it gave us that heartbreaking scene in 5x07 and one of karen's most banger lines — all of the people i love most belonged to you first — so i can't in good faith call it the worst part of canon.

eh. basic as it may be....my honest response to this question is the sperm donor arc. i don't think it led to any interesting growth for buck in season 6 (or hell, it didn't even have to be growth!! i would've easily taken an arc of him spiraling about his decision and backsliding and regressing instead of the lack of care that the storyline received in canon). my opinion has the potential to change if they revisit buck's feelings about it in season 7, but so far it hasn't led to anything i've found compelling and i don't enjoy it.

boring is not a word i would ever normally use to describe 911 but whew. the first half of season 6 was hard for me to get through, even though i binge watched it prior to joining the fandom in 6b. i thought 6x03 and 6x06 were fun but the rest of it i could easily do without.

Ok ok ok so looking at the new stills for 5x06....I just need to talk about two particular photos real quick, ok? This entire spiral is thanks to a post I saw by @tylerhunklin talking about what they wanted from the episode.

Exhibit A

Yet again, they have hurt our sweet baby boy. And now maybe that's just me, but it looks like a pistol whip wound. I feel like if the injury were obtained from the fire, there would be more than just that one injury, right?

So my thoughts are that during the commotion when we know Eddie gets taken hostage, Buck gets pistol whipped. Because, lets be honest, even when Eddie was partnered with Hen, the two of them will always be together and in each other's personal bubble.

Now that brings me to:

Exhibit B

Is it just me or does Eddie look...angry? We've seen him stressed on calls but he always seems to keep it contained. But here it looks like he's tending to someone on the ground and pissed at whoever he is looking up at.

So my train of thought/hope for the episode, is that right before the guy takes Eddie hostage, he manages to grab a gun off an officer and Buck reacts quickly, only to get pistol whipped. So Buck goes down and Eddie, because of course he would, rushes straight to Buck, which is why he's kneeling on the ground.

If you think Eddie wouldn't forget entirely about the gun and whatever else was going on to tend to Buck, clearly we've been watching a different Eddie Diaz this whole time.

So in the second picture we have Eddie tending to a now unconscious Buck while the man holds a gun at him, telling him to come with him or some shit. That's when we get Eddie looking up at him, pissed as hell because he just hit Buck and he doesn't want to leave him until he's checked on him and made sure he's ok.

Then of course Eddie gets taken away because we heard in those BTS videos from earlier this month that Eddie says "alright we're coming out." I'm imagining that in the time after Eddie was taken away, Buck was pulled to safety and somewhat tended to and now he's conscious and realizes what's happened (I kinda hope that's why he looks like he's crying in the first pic. Someone, probably Bobby, explains what happened and now Buck is in panic mode).

And finally, I really hope that when they emerge from the building, Buck is relieved to see Eddie but also in his classic Worried Boyfriend mode (which Eddie finally gets to see) and Eddie is happy to see Buck standing upright and conscious. Once it's all over, they run to each other and we get a long awaited Buddie hug.

I'm spiraling ok? Leave me alone. I'm not gonna be okay on Monday.
