Porsche 911 GT3 RS, 2023. The road-legal version of the GT3 R track car has been revealed and is the most powerful naturally aspirated Porsche to date with a 4.0 litre 525 PS flat 6 engine and 7-speed Porsche PDK gearbox. It has a number of track derived aerodynamic enhancements including the ‘swan-neck’ rear wing, which is significantly larger in all dimensions than any wing previously used on a road-going 911. Another first for a production Porsche model is the fitment of a drag reduction system (DRS). To achieve low drag and therefore higher straight-line speeds, the DRS allows the wings to be flattened out at the push of a button. There is also an airbrake function, activated during emergency braking at high speeds: the wing elements at the front and rear are set to their maximum angle, creating aerodynamic drag that works in combination with the brakes to improve overall deceleration. The 911 GT3 RS accelerates from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.2 seconds and reaches a top speed of 184 mph (296 km/h) in seventh gear.

Porsche 911 GT3 RS completes the ‘ring in 6:49.328 

The new Porsche 911 GT3 RS has completed the 20.8-kilometre Nordschleife of the Nürburgring in 6:49.328 minutes – 10.6 seconds faster than the current 911 GT3. Behind the wheel was Porsche brand ambassador Jörg Bergmeister, who was intensely involved in the development of the new flagship of the 911 series. An official was present to witness the lap time.

The new 911 GT3 RS is designed uncompromisingly for maximum performance. The 386 kW (525 PS) road-legal high-performance sports car takes full advantage of technology and concepts from motorsport. In addition to the high-revving naturally aspirated engine with racing DNA and intelligent lightweight construction, it is the cooling and aerodynamic concept in particular that proves its direct kinship with its motorsport brethren. At 285 km/h the 911 GT3 RS achieves a total downforce of 860 kilograms – three times as much as a 911 GT3.

The 911 GT3 RS with the Weissach package was equipped with the optionally available Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tyres, sized 275/35 R 20 at the front and 335/30 R21 at the rear. The new 911 GT3 RS completed the previously standard shorter lap in 6:44.848 minutes.

Starting with the looks, the RS makes the ‘regular’ GT4 look decidedly pared-back, despite its sizeable wing and intakes. NACA air intakes sit atop the lightweight bonnet and provide brake cooling without disrupting drag, a four-way adjustable front diffuser increases front downforce, underbody deflectors improve rear downforce and slatted wheelarches (first seen on the 911 GT3 RS) prevent lift on the front axle – the list of aero additions and tricks is long and comprehensive. Meanwhile, the adjustable Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) chassis and Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) is standard, plus RS-specific spring rates and damper tuning have been introduced. It’s also had total kerbweight cut by 35kg to 1415kg, while bigger standard brakes (plus optional ceramics) aid stopping power. Clubsport and Weissach upgrade packs are available and offer track-day temptations such as a six-point harness, sports exhaust system made of titanium and forged magnesium wheels. Remember that masterpiece of a 4.0-litre naturally aspirated flat-six that Porsche stuck in the 911 GT3? Well somehow they’ve manhandled it into the Cayman, kept the power almost exactly the same and made it even louder. That’s 493bhp at 8400rpm with a max engine speed of 9000rpm. The benchmark 0-62mph sprint takes 3.4 seconds, 0-120mph is dispatched in 10.9sec and top speed tops 196mph.
