I do think that it is possible that hat 4.02 ends in a cliffhanger with the Tarlos couch scenes.

Because in this scene it looks like Carlos is reaching for maybe his phone and then he answers it and they tell him Iris is missing he then tells TK. Then I think the next episode picks up with TK telling him how dangerous it is and maybe be careful. Just like how TK told Carlos his mom die in 3.07 and then we got the next episode of his mom and his backstory.

if the gabriel theory is true, i will simply roll my eyes and find a way to enjoy the wedding regardless. like i DONT want it but i really don’t care at this point? they can throw anything at me, i’ll take it. LS is a soap opera, i’ve known this since at least the gwyn/owen baby storyline in s2, definitely with charles and gwyn’s deaths. the secret wife and the kidnapping and the hereditary disease are just fun bonuses we get for being so close to the finish line. gabriel dies on the eve of the wedding? well at least we get to meet carlos’ sisters idk

Got inspired to write another lil 126-word “drabble” so… a little angsty season 4 spec for you all!

Carlos’ heart is pounding as he walks through the hospital corridor. He can’t do this. He’s been here too many times in the past. The lights are bright and the smell always makes his stomach churn. Today’s path is familiar; but the circumstances are not.

TK grips his hand tightly, their fingers intertwined, as they make their way to the ICU. His legs are jello as they walk, he’s not sure he would have made it this far without his husband by his side.

They stop at the desk to sign in. Carlos reluctantly lets go, but TK puts his hand firmly on the small of Carlos’ back. A silent sign of support as he talks to the nurse.

“Yes, we’re here to see Gabriel Reyes.”

Speculations for next season:

1. Continuing storyline of Carlos’s father’s murder. 

I could see this developing into a longer plot with the cartel and the police, involving the 126. I could also see Carlos continuing his father’s legacy in his own way as a detective next season. Cue a conversation about the reason Carlos now wants to become a detective between TK and Carlos because TK is worried about it being a grief/revenge thing again. 

2. Repercussions of Robert’s death. 

There are bound to be feelings from everyone about this, especially Owen and TK. I’m not sure if Owen is going to tell TK eventually or not, but I can definitely see a fight in the future between TK and Owen about this and some grief over it. 

3. Some soft, married husbands

Love to see some domestic moments between TK and Carlos - just them being sweet and cute and soft together. Seeing them bicker like an old married couple. Maybe get an answer to the last name thing (I need it to be Reyes-Strand and they choose that because that’s what Gabriel liked)

4. More epic rescues/natural disasters

It’s a wee woo show, what else would you expect? Not sure they can ever one up the volcano and ice storm, but I’m sure they’ll try

5. Wyatt’s recovery/Judd’s return to the firehouse

Because I think Judd is going to return, maybe to a changed firehouse? And I expect we’ll see more Wyatt and Judd moments, especially as Wyatt prepares to become a father

not his dad dying just as Carlos has started to repair their relationship, knowing they were on a good path but still unsure, not his dad dying without seeing Carlos get married

Together we manifest that this does not happen! I don't really think it will (largely because @thisbuildinghasfeelings talked me down from that particular ledge the other day) but it's one of my biggest fears for what they *could* do, so Rob set me off again like a dog that hears thunder. Overall, I think bumping off Gabriel at this stage would be a huge waste of potential for future Carlos storylines. It's not worth giving him the big 'dad loss' story for what would basically amount to drama for a single episode, when they could keep exploring Carlos' issues with Gabriel popping up here and there. Plus he's a badass Texas Ranger on a show set in Austin. He's a great and useful character in his own right, and he's great paired with Owen too. There's so much they could do with him.

My theory is that the big secret is something work related. I'm thinking maybe Carlos is recruited to some super mission, whether it be undercover or not, and maybe Gabriel is part of it as well, being a Texas Ranger, which would explain if/why Andrea knows about it. If Carlos is talking to her when he says that part of the script "I guess I'm going to have to..." I'm guessing for whatever reason, he does not tell TK until the last minute.. for who knows what reason (it's Carlos so, he's not the most open). I think maybe TK gets (understandably) upset about it? Judging by Carlos' face in todays still, when it looks like he's about to leave, maybe TK says something biting or dumb (it's TK so, you never know) and it hurts Carlos before he's supposed to leave. Draaaama. And maybe that TK and Tommy scene is TK being worried (he looks teary-eyed/cry face) because of the way they left things, and he has no way of being in contact with Carlos... I don't know I'm just babbling at this point trying to make it make sense.

Just gonna…manifest a little something…pay no attention. PS Happy Finale Day

Everything is awful and simultaneously too loud and too quiet all at once. No one has changed out of their dusty turnouts or work shirts. TK tries not to pay attention to Marjan’s quiet weeping or how Mateo holds a rosary in one hand and Nancy’s own in the other. The tears he doesn’t want to shed are just behind his eyes. Paul has been sitting in stony silence and Tommy has popped out to call home. Grace flew in about fifteen minutes ago to find Judd and all TK can do is stare at the ticking of the clock and pray to an entity he’s not sure he believes in about his father’s life. He adds a prayer to his mom for good measure. TK isn’t ready to be an orphan just yet.

His name is called, breathless and familiar and TK looks up to find Carlos in the doorway to the waiting room, work-shirt unbuttoned one button to reveal the white undershirt underneath. Carlos has a duffle bag in his hand and his breathing is rapid, like he ran.

“Carlos?”

The duffle is deposited in the empty seat next to him as his boyfriend crouches down in front of him. “I’m so sorry I couldn’t get here earlier. Brought you some things. I—” Carlos swallows heavily before clearing his throat. “I figured we’d be here awhile.”

TK’s thoughts have been on his father this whole time, but he tries to catch up. Sometime during his watch of the minute hand on the wall clock, in the back of his mind, he already counted how long he’d have to wait before Carlos would show up. “But your shift? You have another six hours.”

“TK,” Carlos says, his head tilting softly to the left, “It’s a family emergency.”

The words family emergency circle in his head. It’s not that he didn’t…know what they are building, it’s just the first time those words have been said out loud.

Carlos offers a small smile as he runs a hand over TK’s hair. “Besides, it’s not the first time I’ve abandoned a shift because a Strand is in the hospital. Pretty sure the captain is used to it by now.”

“Oh, I—Sorry…I didn’t…” TK lifts his hand to his mouth as he doesn’t finish his thought. I didn’t realize you left your shifts for me, seems like a silly thing to say because of course Carlos would. TK would do the same. But this isn’t TK in the hospital bed and he should have realized that it doesn’t matter who is in the hospital bed.

Carlos leans in to press a kiss to TK’s forehead. The word family keeps skipping across his mind as Carlos settles back on his heels. It’s like a piece of the puzzle just slipped into place. Or not just slipped, but more like it had slid there without TK realizing it and he’s just managed to move back enough to see the whole picture.

His boyfriend is beyond generous as he gently teases, “To be fair, you’re usually the one unconscious, and your dad and I handle this part.”

“This part sucks,” TK whispers, his voice cracking. 

Carlos sighs and nods, his smile soft. “Yeah, it does.” His mouth dips to the side as he glances away to the clock. “We’ve probably got at least hour or two, if you wanna change. I can show you where the best bathroom to clean up is.”

Carlos says it like he’s offering to take TK out for a nice coffee, and TK manages half a smile because he knows what his boyfriend is doing. If the options are to wait in this uncomfortable chair in an awful room that smells of antiseptic and mistakes, or to let Carlos lead him to some privacy, well, there’s no choice really. 

“I’d like that,” He says with a nod, sliding his hand into Carlos’s. He turns to look to his left and finds Tommy slid back into a seat without him noticing. “Cap-”

“I’ll call if we hear anything,” Tommy promises. “Go.”

It’s almost effortless to let Carlos pull him to standing. The duffle bag from home is already slung over one of Carlos’s broad shoulders and TK slides underneath the other. The words home and family continue to float alongside the prayers for his father. 

When this is all over and his father is fine (because he has to be), TK knows what his next step is. He’s certain the question he is planning to ask was just answered.

oook so here is my theory...

during the first half, carlos is going to ask gabriel to be is best man and gabriel hesitates or says no, causing them to have a blow out.

then during whatever the big emergency is in 4x17, gabriel ends up getting injured. he lives, but he has to spend several days in the hospital recovering, meaning he would miss the wedding. carlos visits him in the hospital, they have their big long overdue talk about their strained relationship. gabriel encourages him not to postpone the wedding because of him. this is also probably when he gifts him his ring saying something like "i'll be right there with you."

the wedding goes (otherwise) as planned. tk and carlos go off on their honeymoon while gabriel is still in the hospital.

then, the final scene is of them returning from their honeymoon (the still tim posted with carlos looking teary eyed in the loft). they return home and are met with terrible news that gabriel passed away in the hospital while they were away. no one wanted to tell them until they got back from their honeymoon.

roll credits, everyone has to suffer until season 5 🙃

The more I think about it I think that Iris does decide to sign the divorce papers while they are meeting, because in that couch scene Carlos calls TK a hot mess. It makes me believe that the papers are signed and now he is freaky out about wedding planning.

In episode 3 maybe Iris did not bring the papers with her so she went home to sign them and bring them back. This then might lead to the phone call that Carlos looks like he might get telling him that she is missing.

We see him with the jacket on looking like he is leaving because he has to find her, because he has to rescue his best friend and get married to the love of his life.

More another theory I had Iris signs the papers and gives them to them at the meeting and then in episode 3 she goes missing and Carlos wants to find her because she is his best friend which then he ends up getting injured or kidnapped in episode 4 and we see TK losing his mind on finding Carlos with Gabriel.

Okay so in another installment of making myself look stupid if I’m wrong:

I don’t think Gabriel is going to die. Mostly because that is fucked up for the show to do after emphasizing how happy this wedding is going to be. That is of course not saying I’m convinced he won’t be hurt (that whole bit about Carlos having fight to get married is suspect). But alternatively what could happen is a conflict over Gabriel being Carlos’ best man. There could be Reyes family drama issues that have been brewing behind the scenes that Gabriel’s been trying to mitigate, for example, which could make him hesitant to accept that role in the wedding even if he loves his son.

Alternatively Gabriel and Carlos’ conflict if there is one could have something to do with how Carlos views himself as unequipped to be a man bc of how his father raised him (which we saw a little bit in the kids episode). That could lead to a fight and also a question if Gabriel feels up to being his best man and coming to terms with the fact that he could have done better with Carlos, but not in the way he thought (my vote is on addressing that dumb af machismo the two of them have got going on).

Also re: the tragedy. The wedding could get interrupted, but that would just suck, wouldn’t it? I’ve taken a look at some of the promos and it looks like they’re responding to a call at some kind of pool party/community event (also involving O’Brien? Maybe?) and maybe whatever happens on that call is the tragedy they’re talking about (you can look for yourself on this page)

But yeah. I know there’s a lot of negativity going around, especially pessimism about the writing of the show. I suggest instead of feeding that beast, we should be grateful this wedding is happening at all, especially bc of the recent writers strike. I know sometimes fans like to bash, but guys… writing a show isn’t easy, and what these guys are paid really isn’t reflective of the work they do. So I get we have criticisms, but keep in mind that production of these eps are a months long process.

I've had this idea for a while now, but after this episode (especially when Owen said 'take what the universe gives you') I'm 97% sure that Enzo's gonna die (off-screen, like really lone star style) before we get a chance to meet him and TK and Carlos end up adopting Jonah. Possibly before the wedding.

This is my headcanon until proven otherwise.
