Sunny’s Sunday Fic Rec!
I was super excited to receive a couple of suggestions for the recs this week, but concussions won because I am obsessed with a certain Buck Begins coda that features it. 😉
find me in the dark — Nearly (aka @herodiaz)
It’s quiet for a moment, quiet for two—Buck is halfway to dozing again when Eddie speaks up.
“You okay?” Eddie asks. Buck blinks his eyes back open and glances over to find Eddie dutifully watching the road, but with a tight grip on the wheel and a worried crease between his eyebrows. Buck has the sudden urge to smooth it away, somehow, but he holds back.
Eddie isn’t just asking about the headache or the exhaustion, and Buck knows that, but he’s not sure he wants to get into the rest of it right now. So he shrugs and says, “I’m fine. Hen and the doc both cleared me, remember?”
(aka: Buck is a little less fine than he realizes, in the aftermath of the factory fire.)
▹ A Buck Begins coda fic! This one is definitely in my top favorite concussion fics because of the progression of Buck's worsening symptoms and then how Eddie takes care of him. Highly recommended!
plot twist (and turns) — autumnchills
“I- I remember putting burgers in the truck. I took some off of Chimney so he could help Eddie finish assessing a patient. That’s the last thing.”
“Okay,” Bobby says, then hesitates before adding, “What happened is that someone stole the truck while you were in there.”
Buck’s head snaps up, and he tries to peer around the edge of the seat and console to get a better look at the guy. This was definitely not the turn he saw his evening taking, all jinxes considered.
aka What if Buck was in the truck when Brian stole it in 4x06?
▹ This one is a Jinx coda that includes some concussed Buck being tossed around a bit and unable to find his footing because of his dizziness. It's a fun mix-up from canon, because face it, we all wanted to see what would have happened if Buck had been on that truck when it took off.
Lean On Me — MadalineGrace
It was one of those nick-of-time rescues. A real Mission Impossible, “cool guys don’t look at explosions,” Hail Mary type of situation. Buck would have found the whole thing incredibly thrilling if his head didn’t hurt so much.
A close call leaves Buck concussed and his family worried.
▹ This one is the shortest of this weekend's recs, but definitely satisfies a sweet tooth. In fact, the whole series is a great read for you whump lovers! Be sure to check it out!
REMINDER: I'm super open to receiving suggestions for Sunday Fic Rec themes! And if you want to, feel free to recommend some of your guys' favorites!

Overall view of the episode: lots of good moments with some overall tone/story things that I didn’t exactly agree with, but you know that’s how it goes when watching cable TV (or any TV really). I’ll say it was more enjoyable than expected, and there were some good character moments!
The good:
I liked that they referenced Owen and Judd’s trauma and that seemed to reflect their behaviors a lot (and it does mean something to me that Judd was the one to drive the fire truck because he knows personally the devastation of that kind of event).
Gina Torres doesn’t have to be in a lot of scenes but whenever she’s in a scene, she brings a lot of impact. Just a look or a small comment and I’m INVESTED.
Marjan was gone, but I could still feel her character being part of the 126 so that made me feel a little better about her being gone.
Judd in sunglasses, Judd loving his wife, just everything about Judd.
Seeing Owen and TK interacting again was nice; I’ve missed them.
I want the water that Carlos drinks because it’s doing wonders for him… he just looks like THAT… clear skin, cow eyes, biceps for days…
It was tense, but I laughed multiple times.
Mateo coming in with the facts :)
Judd, Mateo, and Paul laughing with Owen after the day is saved… I couldn’t help but laugh too. Did fox somehow learn to emit laughing gas from my screen? A new interactive experience perhaps.
The bad:
Owen can be frustrating; he’s consistent in his character, but sometimes it’s just like hmmm you may get good results but your means are not always thought through. But someone had to get to the bottom of things I guess.
I miss funky 9-1-1 calls, so I’m ready to drop the police procedural vibes and get back to normal.
After this intensity, I need to check in on my cardiac health but I’m FINEEEE.
The ugly:
Felt a little sympathetic to the alt-right characters when I just wouldn’t have given them any sympathetic twist because it feels wrong.
I have to wait until next week to see Tommy find spiritual enlightenment through her hunky new boyfriend, which just seems inappropriate to me but no one asked me.
RIP to the date night that Owen no doubt walked in on.
