As a legal guardian myself I have few words about Eddie and Buck moment in 4x14.
I probably mentioned several times that my husband has a daughter, who’s not biologically mine and whose mom is out of picture. Once I turned 21 my husband asked me to adopt her and become her legal guardian. Of course I said yes. And we all know Buck did too.
So… After today’s episode I got all emotional because I understood how much it means for Buck. Since the first time they met he took care of Christopher, parented him and made everything he could to keep him happy and healthy. Sometimes not directly: bringing Carla, warning Bobby about Chris being at the fire station, calming down Eddie during the earthquake. He did all of that not to impress someone but because he loves Chris, Eddie and their little family unit. Until today he thought that this friendship, this best friend Buck role would be the closest to the family he’ll ever get.
And now knowing that Eddie made him Chris’s legal guardian.
It means a lot.
Understanding that someone puts that much faith into you. They trust you with the most important part of their life. They know that no matter what you will fight for the child and their future. And even when life got hard, even when you were left alone you would do everything you could to keep this child safe and happy. It is overwhelming, inspiring, scary too sometimes. No matter how many times you repeat it in your head it still feels surreal. To know that this child is yours, that you’re someone they rely on and look up to. Someone they love as much as their birth parent and have a deep connection with. You experience so many emotions that you can’t really find the right words to describe how you feel and how much it means to be part of their family…
