I'm actually never gonna shut up about 4x14 because it was such a good episode and the Buddie content? sublime

but the fuckin parallels of Buck risking everything to save Eddie right after getting shot and Athena risking everything to save Bobby right after getting shot.... compliments to the fucking CHEF.

Athena to Bobby: "I'm here. I got you."

Buck to Eddie: "Come on, Eddie! Stay down, I'm gonna come! I got you!"

Not to even mention Bobby's disbelief that Athena did what she did for him and the Eddie's disbelief that Buck did what he did for him/Christopher.

Or Buck defying protocols to do something dangerous and Athena defying protocols to do something dangerous.

Athena pleading with Buck to help her save Bobby, because if anyone at the scene was going to understand the unbridled need to do what she had to do, it was going to be Buck.

Athena and Buck were both ready and willing to sacrifice themselves for the men they love and that's true poetic cinema.

i know we all talk about eddie reaching for buck when he got shot, and for good reason!!, but buck reaches for him too. and i don't mean the obvious, when he crawls under the truck to pull eddie to safety. but at the start of the will reveal scene, buck's arm is stretched out, hand planted on the bed halfway between them in all that goddamn space. in his moment of anguish, when he's being made to confront eddie's mortality, buck reaches for eddie right back.

the owen and gwyn scene at the end of 2x02 always hits me so hard. something about owen saying that he was relieved when he got the cancer diagnosis, that it felt like the universe had evened the score for him surviving 9/11. this idea of wishing for suffering, wishing for it to all make sense. for him to have not been lucky, to have not made it, even, because so many people didn't. why didn't they, and why did he. thinking about his actions afterward (his parenting, for one), everything being filtered through a lens of trying to make up for it, for the fact that he did get out and he did get to go back to his family. make up for the fact that he didn't suffer the way so many people did, whether or not he deserved to

thinking about him making it out that day, looking fine on the surface, and not being able to handle how much it does not feel that way. how much of him was left in the wreckage with the crew he lost, but how no one would see that by looking at him. wanting the physicality of something, something to point to, something concrete, because it doesn't make sense otherwise. he lived and he's fine and it doesn't make sense because he isn't.

IDK about you all, but 4x14 not showing any of the firefam with Buck at the hospital (but of course fucking tay kay was there), or at the hospital after Buck left, or allowed to be at Eddie's welcome home party, or involved in any capacity with Eddie after his injury OR with Bobby after he was ALSO shot, was it for me.

Wonder what could possibly have happened for that episode to set the trend for the next two seasons 🙄🙄🙄

I just want everyone to know that my friend who has never in his life seen 9-1-1, nor have I really talked about it with him, came to my house this afternoon while I was watching 4x14: Survivors and I’m spiralling right so I’m just picking and choosing scenes to watch throughout the show so I was basically just watching the Buddie scenes and so I watched the aftermath of the shooting and the ambulance scene, and then the scene where Buck tells Chris and breaks down. Then the moment when Buck runs into the hospital, “hi, Buck,” and “better than me. I kinda lost it when I told him.”

That’s ALL I watched while he was around.

Then as I was pausing to turn the show off (because he was here and he doesn’t watch the show yk) I angrily was like “YOU CANT TELL ME THEYRE NOT IN LOVE” and HE GOES

“Yeah without context I just assumed they were married” EXACTLY!! YOU ARE CORRECT!! I’m losing my mind

the bathena forehead touch in 4x14 is just so achingly tender, i can't look at it, i can't not look at it, god, just the way they sway together, the build-up to it, those little inching movements towards each other, bobby in pain and athena desperate to make sure he's okay, and then the way it almost settles the moment when they finally meet in the middle. it just makes me crazy.
