This is my brain trying to make sense of the new Eddie/Shannon/Chris timeline
With Shannon’s birth year now canonically being 1992 I thought I’d throw together a rough timeline for her and Eddie’s relationship since it seems to be confusing some people. (Although it doesn’t really matter what year these characters were born and we shouldn’t put too much thought into this bc the show retcons backstories all the time)
It’s canon that Shannon was born Oct 1992 and that Buck was born June 1992 and so logically Eddie was probably born either Sept 1990/91/92 (Edit: Its canon everyone! Eddie is a 1992 baby!). I like thinking that he’s a little older than Buck and so I’m going to stick with Eddie being born 1991. I have edited this to reflect his canon age.
I'm going to break this down by year and bold the stuff that is confirmed canon the other stuff is was I could piece together to make it make sense.
And yes I know their ages might fluctuate depending on when birthdays fall I was just making it easier on myself.
2010:
August: Shannon and Eddie have known each other since they were 14. They start dating in their senior year of high school. Shannon finds out she's pregnant, her and Eddie get married, Eddie enlists in the army (Shannon: 18, Eddie: 18)
Basic training is about 10 weeks plus 16 weeks of medic training so Eddie is away at basic for 26 weeks total (Sept 2010 - Jan 2011)
2011:
Eddie finishes basic in Jan 2011 and goes on his first tour in Feb 2011
Tours are anywhere between 7 and 15 months - lets say Eddie's first tour was 9 months
Eddie gets leave from his tour to be there for Chris' birth but has to return soon after (Shannon: 19, Eddie: 19).
2011-2013:
Eddie is in the army on tours and periodically home
Eddie misses Chris' diagnosis
2013:
Eddie re-enlists without telling Shannon (Shannon: 21, Eddie: 21, Chris: 2)
From my research enlistments are usually 4 years in active duty and two years inactive. However, after you've completed active duty you can extend or re-enlist for another four of active duty. This would align with Eddie's timeline as 2010-2014 would be his first contract and he re-enlisted in 2013 to start his second contract as soon as his first is done.
2015:
Eddie's helicopter gets shot down and Eddie is discharged early from the army (Shannon: 23, Eddie: 23, Chris: 4)
Eddie is a Staff Sergeant at this point which is possible for his age just not common
Shannon leaves to take care of her dying mother
2017:
Helena and Ramon try to take Chris from Eddie
Eddie and Chris leave El Paso for LA
Eddie starts at the Fire Academy (Shannon: 25, Eddie: 25, Chris: 6)
2018:
Eddie joins the 118
Shannon returns and dies
(Shannon: 26, Eddie: 26, Chris: 7, Buck: 26)
Do with this as you will :)

buddie is 911’s mcdanno. like the vibes are the exact same. they start out with a one sided grudge, one of them has a kid from a failed marriage that the other would die for, both have relationship problems with women, one of them has common sense and the other is a complete idiot but they’re actually both idiots if you look hard enough, one is always willing to jump head first into danger no matter how reckless it is, and they would absolutely die for each other.

extremely hilarious that eddie said ana had been a “godsend” through the blackout, but we only saw one example of that when ana brought chris (and salads??) to the station...where buck hugged chris the same way eddie had seconds earlier and where eddie nearly had a panic attack because ravi thought ana was eddie’s wife. vs all of 5x13 and 5x14 where we see buck being a godsend not just for christopher, but for eddie -- running to the diazes the second christopher called, putting christopher to bed, getting christopher to school, calling bobby, helping christopher with homework, cleaning up after christopher, the equine therapy stuff being about christopher and charlie/eddie. and eddie never came close to panic, he didn’t even question any of it. of all of things eddie is struggling with this season, buck’s commitment and role in his family is glaringly Not one of them. but it was with ana.

rated: t | words: 22.6k | read on ao3
summary:
“Hey Bobby.”
“Buck, how are you?”
How was he? What a fucking loaded question that was.
“Uh, fine. What’s up Cap?”
It was a nickname Buck had come to call Bobby over time, Buck being one of the few allowed to do so.
“Listen kid, I don’t know if you’ve heard…. about Eddie that is.”
Eddie.
Buck’s arms instantly coated with goosebumps, the chill in the air having nothing to do with it.
“What um, what about him?”
There was silence on the other end for a moment, Bobby carefully picking out his next words.
“Well, there’s no real easy way to say this, but he’s missing. No one has seen or heard from him for a couple weeks now.”
Missing.

i know eddie has been through some shit in terms of his military trauma, but i would love it if season 7 remembered he actually has medical/combat experience that the others don’t. i recently watched season 2 again and omg there are so many times when he gives advice or takes control of something bc of his experience. the only time i can remember off the top of my head since then is season 5 when he gives the advice about the bomb when he’s at dispatch. i need them to have a call where there’s something really awful happening, mass chaos, mass injury etc etc, and there are multiple ladder teams there and another captain asks if there’s anyone with expertise in something like this and bobby just goes ‘i know a guy 🙂’ and then hard cut to eddie storming around giving people orders and telling them what to do and where and when! he gets to have a bamf moment where he remembers that his military experience can also be an asset rather than just a burden (and bonus points if it affeCTS buck, i you know what i mean lol)
OH MY GOD I WAS THINKING ABOUT THIS LITERALLY LAST NIGHT BEFORE I WENT TO BED. I was thinking about when Taylor (derogatory) is introduced and he just starts talking physics and deals with the whole helicopter. And obviously there's the bomb, the grenade, and the few times he says I've seen a few of these in combat, but like, it's an expertise they never talked about again. Besides the medical training, the academy training, he also has around 5 (?) years of army experience and it would be great to see him use that knowledge and I think it would be good for him to also see that he can use that in a way, and somewhere he would have people around to support him if it triggered him (ideally it wouldn't but they could use that to go all recovery isn't linear). They could've gone in such fun ways with his knowledge outside the academy, and they just never used again. And I guess sure, if you're in Los Angeles the expectation would be for him to not encounter that type of situation but it would interesting to see him bend what he knows to apply there. He clearly dealt with bombs in the past, some improvisation skills, even the random tipbits about why rushing into a specific situation would be bad like he does with the helicopter and the dynamic rollovet, and I'm pretty sure there's another call he starts talking physics I don't remember what now, that could add a whole layer as to why he is so good at the job, because, yes, it traumatized him, but I think it would be good for him to realize that he got something useful from all that too.
Also yes please, call where Eddie is taking over and Buck is just "this is definitely working for me, yes sir"

the more i think about eddie and his sisters, the more intrigued i am. because if the writers wanted to show that eddie has at least a somewhat good/close relationship with sophia and adriana, it could. they have single lines all the time that are meant to tell us what happened between episodes and off-screen
so they could easily throw in off handed lines about like, eddie saying that chris wants to go to summer camp this year instead of spending a week with one of his sisters for some cousin time. or that one of his sisters asked him and chris to spend christmas with them, or something like that. but they never have
and they also didn't have sophia or adriana defend eddie to their parents after shannon's funeral or during eddie begins when eddie came home from afghanistan and his parents had that welcome home party. and they very pointedly did not have his sisters do anything to defend or support eddie in those instances i suspect for a reason, since it wouldn't have been that hard to have one of his sisters to at least be like "hey mom and dad, back off, chill"
and so they've never written anything to indicate he has a close relationship with his sisters which then it's like, why?? i mean sure, it could just be that eddie simply isn't close with his sisters for no reason other than the fact that that's just how it is sometimes (that's how it is with me and my brother). but this is 911 so there's probably something deeper there from their childhood that is the reason eddie and his sisters aren't particularly close. and i am VERY curious as to what that reason is. like does eddie, on some level, resent his sisters because they got the unconditional love and support from their parents that he doesn't seem to get because they're girls and he's the lone son? were his parents the same way with his sisters and instead of it being something the 3 of them bonded over, they distanced themselves from each other instead?? idk i've just been thinking about this a lot lately

regular reminder - shannon diaz was an ableist heifer who abandoned her son and refused to speak to him for *years* and was about to do it again when she died. i’m not going to pretend that shit didn’t happen just because kristen decided to try to milk drama points and if you don’t like it because it hurts your feelings when people tell the truth about your fave pretty white girl, i genuinely do not give a fuck. hope this helps!
also she was emotionally manipulative and just generally terrible. showing up at eddie’s workplace to announce loudly they’re sleeping together and demand to be let in to her son’s life after she abandoned him without a word? acting like eddie was unreasonable for not just doing that? telling him she’s pregnant because she’s late but clearly didn’t bother taking a test first? going “actually i want a divorce psych” after he did what she *knew* he would do, after she spent however long demanding to “be a family” again? bitch shut the fuck up i see what you are
i’m sick to goddamn death of some of y’all pretending shit is misogyny just because it doesn’t make your white fave look like a pure and perfect angel

Seven Sentence Sunday
Tagged by the always lovely and amazing, @spotsandsocks @malewifediaz @disasterbuckdiaz @exhuastedpigeon @wikiangela @daffi-990 @elvensorceress and @bigfootsmom Thank you all so much and I'm super excited for all your upcoming works!
Last night ya'll... I'm still reeling and pinching myself because the whole Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce lyric change and kiss! OMG! So in honor of my favorite player basically winning on his bye week, I have unpaused from NFL Buck and bring you this.
Buck's first in season game back from his leg injury had every nay sayer and Watson advocator go silent. 432 passing yards, 45 rushing, 4 touchdowns, and a solid 32-10 win over Aaron Rodger's Green Bay Packers. Astonishing. A fairy tail ending from a horrible beginning. It took every fiber of Eddie's learned military patience and control to hold himself back from running down to the field and personally congratulate Evan. "Squeeze him extra tight for me." He told Maddie, before she stepped off the elevator towards the family waiting area. Eddie adjusted his grip on a sleepy Christopher and watch his reflection slide in with the closing doors. "He won daddy. With his bad leg." Christopher murmured in his shoulder. "I knew he would." The smile that had fallen earlier at the reminder of Eddie and Evan's closeted situation, returned hearing his son's bright optimism. "Never a doubt mijo." Later, in the privacy of their own home, Eddie stared up at the red door canvas photo that gave them their beginning. 'Just walk in.' A motto Buck took to heart during his recovery. Just walk into the doctor's office, you won't know what the prognosis is until you do. Just walk into physical therapy, even if you think there is no point. Just walk into team locker room, you and the team need you in there. Just walk into the stadium, show them all Evan Buckley is the starting quarterback. Just walk in the front door and kiss the man you keep hidden, but loves you so much that he values the reasons to stay hidden. Just walk in. And Evan continues to do so. He walks in their front door. Eddie turns to him, steps forward, throws his arms around those broad shoulders, and kisses him like he wanted at the stadium. All consuming, filled with love, and oh so damn proud.
Hehehehehehehe. YES I am giddy through and through, and I hope you all enjoyed! All things NFL Buck can be found here.

✨ 2023 writing round-up ✨
Edit: must have accidentally copied someone else’s intro without realising 😂
I’ve posted 57,184 words to ao3 this year (I also started in June) I have almost the same number of words in my wips 😭 This year has been crazy and this fandom has provided me so much joy, not just writing but getting to know all my wonderful mutuals <3 The 911 brainrot is strong and I can’t wait to see what 2024 brings!
I posted the more words to Ao3 this year than I have in any other previous year, which is wild since I only really started writing again in June. It's wild the choke hold that Eddie Diaz and Evan Buckley have on me. Here's my writing round-up for 2023 :)
June
I posted my first fic on June 20 and in nine days I had posted 6 fics 😂
I ain't proud of all the punches that I've thrown
Teen | 826w
Rage, like a broken window to an oxygen-deprived room that’s already in flames, explodes within him and almost takes him out. He resists the urge to slam the phone’s receiver into the wall until it's just fragments of plastic that dig into the palm of his hand, drawing blood. He breathes through his nose and then out of his mouth and repeats that until he gets himself under control. or Eddie's in Jail and he almost calls Buck.
You with the dark curls, you with the watercolour eyes
Mature | 1.6k
Blue eyes meet his, washed out in the morning light, he's like the watercolour paintings they had seen in the museum with Chris last week, soft and fuzzy around the edges, with just a hint of bright colours. Blue like the sky, splashes of pink at his eyebrow and lips. Those lips, that still looked bruised from last night. Or The morning after Buck and Eddie finally get together.
asking all these questions, just to be polite, while dying inside
Teen | 1.2K
But Eddie looks good, like really good, like how is anyone allowed to look that good in jeans and a green henley? His hair is all fluffy which means he hasn't put any product in it, he wonders if it still smells like the green apple conditioner that Eddie and Chris liked to use. There's a new wrinkle at the corners of his eyes like he's been smiling a lot these last few years and it shouldn't hurt this much to know that Eddie's been happy without him but it does. or Buck dreams of what it would be like to lose Eddie as a friend and run into him five years down the line and having to ask all of these stupid questions just to be polite while dying inside.
Tapping Morse Code into your heart
Explicit | 2.8k
Buck can’t keep still. It was a known fact that some part of Buck’s body will be in constant motion, and when it wasn’t? You should be concerned. A bouncing knee, an elastic band wound around his fingers, head bopping, fingers tapping Morse code he had learned on a whim after Eddie told him that he knew it. So Buck can’t stay still even if his life depended on it. Or in this case an orgasm. And Eddie-well Eddie is annoyed. or Buck and Eddie use Morse Code to communicate when words can't be said.
I want you to be selfish with me
Mature | 4.6k
When Eddie gets the call is 12.24 am. He’s lying awake in bed, trying to avoid spiralling but failing when his phone lights up, vibrating and blaring out the stupid song Buck had changed his ringtone to. “So you know it's me calling.” Eddie didn’t say that he always knew it was Buck calling even without the ringtone. Buck’s the only one that calls him this late at night, it's also the only time Buck calls since he prefers to text during the normal hours of the day. Eddie sighs, dragging a hand over his face, looks like trying and failing to fall asleep is going to have to wait. His other hand reaches for his phone, answering. “Buck,” He says, he can hear a lot of background noise, voices and music, so it’s not an ‘I woke up from a nightmare and I needed to make sure you're still alive’ call. “Eddie,” Buck slurs, drunk, “Eds, Eds, did I wake you?” or Buck called Eddie while drunk and Eddie ends up using some of his military training to save him.
You bring me comfort
Teen | 4.1k
Frank asks him “When was the last time you were hugged?” He’d hugged Chris that morning. “No, I mean the last time you were held” He didn’t really understand the difference, he regularly hugs Christopher, Tia Pepa, Abuela, and even a few quick hugs with Buck which never seem like enough. “Not you holding someone else, comforting someone else, just purely someone holding you because you need it” Eddie thinks back to the hospital, thinks back to seeing Shannon’s body on the gurney, the way Bobby’s arms had gone around him and held him up. “When Shannon died, Bobby, my Captain, he-he hugged me” It had been so long ago, years and before that? He couldn’t remember. Frank doesn’t exactly give him homework called “get hugged” but he suggests that Eddie should ask for want he wants next time he needs comfort instead of putting on the sweater. or Eddie is touched starved and just needs a hug instead, instead he has his sweater.
July
I Can See You
Teen | 3.1k
Eddie gets out of his truck and watches as Buck sings along to whatever song is playing in his car. It’s captivating but Eddie thinks many things about Buck are. He’s unashamed as he belts, singing into his phone like it’s a microphone. Buck looks up and makes eye contact with Eddie, who can feel his lips stretched in a smile. Buck smiles back, continuing his impromptu show, now singing to Eddie even though he can’t hear it from across the parking lot. Eddie watches for a minute or so before walking over to Buck’s jeep, drawn to him like he has his own gravitational pull, stronger than the earth's as if Buck is the only reason Eddie hasn’t gone floating off into space yet. As he gets closer he can hear the muffled music, he can see the blue of Buck’s eyes as they gleam from joy. Eddie can barely make out the words: I see you, I see you, baby, Oh, baby OR Buck’s a Swiftie and he makes Eddie listen to Speak Now (TV) and accidentally confesses his love because of the song I Can See You
Alright, Cowboy, Go Get 'Em
Explicit | 17k | 2/3
“What can I get you?” The bartender asks as Eddie slides up to the bar. “Whiskey, neat, thanks” “Make that two” A voice says from beside him, Eddie turns and takes in a black leather protection vest that’s undone over a bright blue button-down shirt. He drags his eyes up, over pale skin, an adam apple and stubble to blue eyes a shade or two lighter than his shirt. His white cowboy hat is back on, it makes the pink mark on his eyebrow stand out. There's a small smirk on his lips that Eddie does not linger on. “Evan Buckley,” He says, holding out his hand. Eddie clears his throat, “Eddie Diaz” He says shaking the offered hand, noticing the callous and firm grip before pulling back. OR What if Eddie had never left El Paso? What if Buck became a bull rider after being a ranch hand? After Eddie gets back from Afghanistan and Shannon divorces him some of his high school buddies decided to drag him to the rodeo to cheer him up. I don’t think they had in mind Eddie getting blown by a rodeo star behind the stable but it sure did improve his mood. Now Eddie can’t get Buck out of his mind and he might just become a rodeo regular.
Under the Guise of Violence
Explicit | 3k
Buck was kneeling. Not in the way Eddie had too frequently fantasised about, though from the lascivious smile on his face, maybe in a way Buck had fantasised about. There’s a cut above his right eyebrow, it’s a reflection of his pink birthmark, his nose is broken and blood-half dried-is trailing down to those plump pink lips. Eddie has to force himself to drag his eyes away. His hand tightens on the pummel of his sword, careful of its sharp edge that rests against the fragile skin of Buck’s neck. He doesn’t know how they got here. OR Eddie can't touch Buck unless it's to hurt him, after a sparring match Buck confronts him and it leads them back to Eddie's bedroom.
August, September and October I didn't post any fic- I was moving country and could not finish a fic to save my life 😂
November
nicknames, supernova similes and the family we make
Teen | 800w
“Bobby, I’d like you to meet, Robin Buckley-Diaz,” Buck looks at the small bundle in his arms, bright blues staring right back up at him, “This is your Grandpops.” Bobby clears his throat, “Grandpops?” Buck looks up at the man who’s been more of a dad to him than his own blood, who had been by his bedside at every hospital visit and helped him grow up into the man he is today, “If that’s okay with you?” OR Bobby and Athena meet Buck and Eddie's new baby girl.
let me cradle your body (be a safe place to rest)
General | 1.9k
“Seat theif,” Buck pouts, “Where am I supposed to sit?” He asks and look, if he purposely makes his eyes all big and puts a little whine in his voice in a deadly combination that usually has Eddie folding to his whims that it’s between him and the universe okay? “Here,” Eddie says, patting his thigh and it shortcircuits Buck’s brain for longer than it probably should’ve. Eddie doesn’t actually mean that, he’s just messing with Buck right? Because as much as they’ve been accused of practically sitting on each other, they’ve never actually sat in each other’s laps. Buck opens and closes his mouth a few times before deciding that if Eddie is pulling his chain then he’s going to regret it and if it’s being earnest then it probably is comfier than the floor and better than being squeezed into a too-tight spot. “Okay,” Buck says, Eddie offers him a smile and his hand, as if daring him to do it. Buck takes the offered hand and Eddie pulls Buck onto his lap. OR What starts out as a normal 118 gathering ends with Buck sitting on Eddie's lap.
December
even when the heat breaks I’m still yours
Explicit | 6.1k
Eddie has many regrets in his life, lying on the floor of the cabin in the middle of a heat wave with his six foot two best friend pressing into his side while they were both trying to stay cool under the pitiful breeze of the ancient ceiling fan had the possibility to be high on that list. He turns his head to be confronted with a tattooed and freckle-covered shoulder, he can’t remember when they decided to strip down to their boxers -he might have suggested it after Buck’s third shirt had been soaked with sweat and had been clinging to his muscles in a dangerously distracting way- but at the time it had seemed like a good idea, he wasn’t sure about that now considering this was the third time in the last hour that he’s found himself turning to stare at the miles of bare skin. OR Buck and Eddie get stuck in a cabin during a heatwave, they finally take the next step and fuck nasty on the floor.
We might end up real close
Explicit | 2.2k
“Said you wanted us to bond. We might end up real close.” When Buck said those words to Bobby just merely few hours ago, it had been a joke about how if the bomb went off they would be reduced to blood, shards of bone and flesh, mixed so together that you wouldn’t be able to tell them apart without DNA testing. He hadn’t meant it in the way that it was now true with Eddie balls deep in him as he fucks Buck against the tile wall of the firehouse showers, both of them still fully dressed, uniform pants undone and pulled only down to mid-thigh in their haste. Though he thinks maybe Bobby wouldn’t be too surprised by this development given Buck’s recent past. OR the 2x01 Rewrite where Buck and Eddie fuck after removing the bomb.
They don’t know (your name is already mine)
General | 7.6k | 3/4
“Sir, can you tell me your name?” Buck opens his mouth, his tongue feels like lead, “E-ed-” “Ed? Is your name Ed?” Buck shakes his head and winces when he sends a spike of pain through his head. Hands pull at his shirt and he feels the cold metal of scissors as they cut his brand new shirt. He’s supposed to be wearing that to tomorrow's Christmas Eve dinner. Eddie had said the colour makes his eyes pop. “He’s wearing dog tags…Eddie Diaz,” Buck moans, blackness at the edges of his vision seeps in, he tries to blink it away, no, they need to call Eddie, “It’s okay Eddie, we’ve got you,” is the last thing he hears before the darkness takes over. OR Buck gets in a car accident on Christmas Eve Eve and the only ID he has on him is Eddie's dog tags. A case of mistaken Identity, a trip to the hospital and a Christmas Surprise.

Thinking about how the 911 writers robbed us of Albert calling Chim "hyung" (a respectful term for Older brother from a younger man in Korean). If he grew up in South Korea for all his life he for sure would've had that elder respect ingrained in him and probably would've also called Maddie noona (older sister from a younger man). And he's for sure younger than Buck and Eddie so he would've called the both of them hyung too. And then Chim's dad showed up and there was not a word of him wanting his granddaughter to call him "halaboji" (grandfather) and they called their dad "pops"? Chim I understand saying Pops but Albert? No "aboji" or "abonim" or even the informal "appa"? They could've created so much tension by having Albert speak informally with Chim or by having Albert be closer to his father by using the informal word for father. And the Buckley's would just be standing there all confused because they don't realize all of the underlying tension that's being created just by the use or lack of use of honorifcs. Like, the conflict could've been JUICY.
Don't even get me started on how they have Albert say that weird ass "the mighty warrior is just as noble as the scholar" or some shit that felt like they were trying to have him spout Chinese proverbs or something. Instead, when Maddie said "Eddie, don't encourage him to go off to war!" I would've had Albert say "Oh I still have 10 years before I have to do that. In Korea every man has to complete a couple of years of military service before they're 30. It's something we take pride in as a man" as a good way to show the culture shock and then have the firefam look at Chim and be like "oh, but you didn't, did you Chim?" And Chim could be irritated and take it as a slight and be like "No. I gave up my Korean citizenship years ago." And then have Chim blow up at Albert from there.
Anyway, every day I wish the show did a better job of integrating Chimney and Albert's Korean heritage and the culture shock of American Korean vs. SK Korean into the show. I absolutely appreciated them naming their daughter Jee-yun though!

911 Spoilers Season 2: You’ve been warned. 😅
Episode 15-18
Episode 15
• Bank safe emergency where Hen gets trapped.
• Eddie using his military background, believes the man collapsing is caused by a nerve agent.
• During the rescue Buck is watching Eddie drill the safe door.
I feel the need to explain myself and the reason why my notes say things like Buck is watching Eddie. The entire point of this little project of mine is to dissect the concept of Buddie and my reasoning for shipping them. Which means understanding Buck and Eddie as individuals and just noting down even the smallest interactions we see on screen of them together. Yes it’s a bit unhinged I’m aware.
• Buck being Buck and doing everything he can to save Hen. Which includes aggressively driving the fire engine to create a hole in the wall.
• Eddie, Buck, Bobbie looking through the hole in the wall. I think this moment would make for a cute background photo.
• The 118 get back from the rescue. Buck and Eddie hopping out of the truck together.
• Eddie being sassy, hands on his hips when cops find the money in the truck.
• Interrogations; Buck being adorable and confused. Eddie being annoyed and sassy.
• Buck and Eddie hanging the Welcome Banner for Chimney.
• Eddie worried about money. Taking on multiple shifts for Christopher. Openly stating that Christopher is worth the struggle. Also spending $150 on surf lessons. Eddie and Shannon working on their relationship. Eddie still holding her at arms length.
• Eddie and Buck being equally as sassy with the rest of the 118, while confronting Frank the actual thief.
• Buck sitting across from Eddie when Bobby, Athena, and Hen are trying to explain the crime. Buck being confused.
Episode 16
• Bobby Begins Again. The first 5 minutes of this episode broke me.
• No Buddie.
• We are introduced to how Buck first interacted with Bobby.
• Buck and Eddie standing close together when Bobby announces he’s being investigated and can’t act as captain.
Episode 17
• Eddie, Shannon, and Christopher on the beach "Playing Family"
• Eddie is unsure of his feelings towards Shannon. If he sees her as just Christopher’s mother or is he actually in love with her.
• Shannon tells Eddie that she might be pregnant. He is completely shocked.
When I say “playing family” I don’t mean it to sound dismissive or criticizing this family dynamic. They are a family, but they are playing into what others would expect from them. The interactions Shannon and Eddie have together feels like it’s for Christopher and not necessarily for their love of each other. Shannon being the one to ask Eddie, “what is this” show cases the uncertainty in the relationship.
• Buck is freaking out about figuring out a plan to get Bobby back as Captain.
• Eddie and Buck cleaning up and rolling up hoes and putting it back into the truck.
• Buck and Eddie pressed up near each other against the fire truck.
• Eddie bringing up his situation with Shannon to Bobby.
• Chocolate factory rescue; Buck and Eddie make eye contact while trying to pull man out. Eddie catching Buck and preventing him from falling into the chocolate.
• First Bombing victim rescue; Eddie watches husband tell his wife he loves her. Eddie contemplating his relationship with Shannon even more.
• Eddie FaceTiming Shannon, says “I love you”. As he hangs up, Buck appearing out of nowhere and asking Eddie “when’s the wedding?”
• Eddie is now contemplating remarrying Shannon.
• Eddie and Shannon go out on a date. Eddie goes on to give a speech about their relationship. Eddie begins to describe their relationship as something that drags him down, but that he knows it. He’s comfortable in their relationship.
I wish I was exaggerating. Eddie really thought that the best way to confess what he believes is love and wanting to reestablish their relationship as a married couple was to say she drags him down in a weird metaphor about chocolate she obviously wouldn’t understand.
• Eddie wants to propose but Shannon wants a divorce. Shannon tells him she’s not pregnant, she was just late. Both Eddie and Shannon are easily able to talk about how much they love Christopher.
• This interaction really show cases how amazing of a father Eddie is and how it comes easier to him than being in the relationship with Shannon.
• At the car accident scene Buck is the first realizes Shannon is the injured person. (At least the first reaction we see)
• Buck tying to keep Eddie calm and away from the scene, but ultimately failing.
• Eddie saying good bye was sort of cold and distant. You can blame the military for this, if you want another explanation for the behavior. I will admit that " be silent" will always be off putting and out of place. It honestly made the moment a bit funny and took me out of any sad emotions I was feeling.
• Did the 118 kill Shannon by not intubating sooner?!
Chimney and Hen have a scene right after explaining how she was going to die regardless of what they did. But honestly it does not feel that way. The entire situation just felt like a cheap and easy way to get rid of Shannon and not include her in the overall story anymore. Personally I wish we saw Eddie and Shannon go through the divorce and maintain a healthy coparenting relationship.
• Eddie picks up Shannon’s things. Has to tell Christopher that his mother died.
• Buck is visibly worried about Eddie.
• Eddie is cryng at the beach.
So my personal head cannon is that Eddie is gay man in denial, speaking as a woman who was once in denial of her sexuality. I might make a more detailed post of closeted/denial gay Eddie, but for now I will say that I wholeheartedly believe that Eddie really did think he was in love with Shannon. He cared for her, was attracted to her, had love for her, but not actually in love with her.
Episode 18
• We meet Eddie's family. 🙁
• His parents want Eddie to move back to Texas with the ruse that Christopher needs to be close to family.
• Eddie estabishes he has a life and family in LA. His tía reenforces this point. He definitely is also talking about the 118.
• Buck is searching for an apartment with Ally.
• Live Stream rescue; Where Eddie and Buck are being shipped by viewers. Comments like “they are a cute couple” graced our screens.
• Buck trapped under the fire engine after the bomb exploded.
• Eddie death glares the bomber.
• The collateral damage comment from the bomber almost sent Eddie on attack mode.
• Eddie being the one to pull him out from under the truck.
• Eddie being along side him in the ambulance.
• Buck waking up in hospital bed to Carla.
• Buck being destroyed over the fact that he might not work again as a firefighter.
• Ally kisses Buck passionately. It’s a bit off putting because we barely saw her in the season. Their relationship was definitely off screen and implied, I liked Ally, wish we saw more of her.
• Bobbie is back as captan. Hen states "Every thing is back to how it should be " Eddie corrects her with an “Almost" in reference to Buck not being there.
• Buck chose the wrong aparment with Ally given the circumstances.
• Ally doesn’t want him to be a firefighter. They breakup because of their lifestyle differences. They end up breaking up.
• Buck getting dressed up for Eddies ceremony. He should stay home to heal but states nothing is more important than this ceremony.
• Buck only thinks he only matters as a firefighter.
• Back sitting front row for Eddie's ceremony. Buck being so proud watching Christopher walk over to Eddie with the helmet.
• Buck and Eddie hug 🥰
Something I want to note. During the montage of Eddie’s ceremony we get all these cute little clips of Eddie and Buck and Christopher individually. Laughing, hugging, messing around. My favorite thing the editors did was post a clip of Eddie eating cake and than switching over to Buck eating cake or Eddie interacting with friends and family and switching over to Buck interacting with family and friends. I can’t say that was done on purpose, but I like to believe it was.

Thankfully I’m only getting the after effects on my dash, but I’ve come on here this morning to see Shannon hate.
I am not a Shannon fan by any means - what she did was wrong on so so many levels, but if you cannot understand the nuance of circumstance playing into someone’s behaviours then I suggest you stop watching the show. 911 is really good at giving people fleshed out and flawed characters.
Shannon was young and put into an difficult situation with clearly very little support. Having a child young is never easy, but to do that when you’re alone, while your husband is overseas in the military, while his parents are over bearing and judgemental is even harder. Then throw into that a diagnosis of CP and your mother - in a different state, being diagnosed with cancer that turns out to be terminal.
That’s horrific.
My own mother was diagnosed with and died of cancer when I was 18/19 and I was living 300 miles away and alone with zero support. It broke me and lead to me attempting suicide 3 times. I can’t imagine adding a child into that mix. I also don’t think I’d have abandoned a helpless child who needed me, but I can imagine how utterly stressed, depressed and alone she felt so I can completely understand how she would’ve felt pushed into the decisions she made.
We will never know what relationship she would’ve had with Chris when she returned because she didn’t get any chance to show us. But we can give her some slack and the benifit of the doubt - that she had the intention of staying in his life - that her request for divorce was her wanting to stay and be there for Christopher - that it was her recognising that her and Eddie were to broken to make anything work but that she could rebuild some form of relationship with Chris.

morning writing drafts
I should be working on sleepless in la.
Big SHOULD there.
Instead, I think i’ve come up with a name for a 911/mass effect mashup.  And been graphic editing because who wants to finish their rom com that should have been done already?
*sigh*
Title: The First Spectre (aka previously known as untitled 911/Mass Effect space opera slowburn) chapter 1 vs prologue
Fandom: 911, Mass Effect Trilogy
Pairing: endgame Buddie (MShenko equivalent).  Assume anything else is fair game until we hit ME3 territory because i’m totally making Taylor into Miranda and Abby is going to be Liara.
Tags/warnings: i’m still not committing to writing this monster length fic(and I do mean monster length if I go for it—like 600k of the slowest of slow burns).  In the meantime i’m evidently writing a beginning, a divorce-era horizon disaster, and can clearly picture the catalyst firing/’don’t leave me behind’ scene in all its angsty goodness. Author may be in deep trouble.  First draft.  Assume Eddie=Kaidan Alenko and Buck=MShep.  Chimney is totally Joker.  Use of military terms that may confuse some audiences and be completely inappropriate as author does not have a military background and just reads too many generation kill fics.
Tagging because they asked @shortsighted-owl.  If you would like to be tagged for any updates or snippets from this one please let me know.

Lieutenant Edmundo Diaz—known to his family as Eddie or everyone else as Lt Diaz or just Diaz—sat in the copilot’s chair on the bridge listening to Flight Lieutenant Han, aka Chimney, grumble about their newest mission orders.  Eddie thought that the grumbling was mostly for show—being assigned to work under Captain Robert Nash was a coveted position and good for your career.  The Normandy (known also by it’s engineering designation as SR-118) was a new type of freighter that was a joint project between the Alliance and the alien council races. There was no ship faster or with better handling anywhere in the fleet.
Chimney really should be happier he was getting the privilege of flying the equivalent of the most luxurious, high tech interplanetary transport ever made.  Instead, he was grumbling about scuttlebutt that he’d heard while getting his clearance physical from Dr. Wilson.
“Did you hear who you’ll be working with?” Chimney asked Eddie, implying that Eddie should be unhappy about his new CO.
“I heard I’d be working with Commander Buckley and there’s nothing to say.  He’s a good soldier.”
“A good soldier?!?  You heard what happened on Akuze right?  That he’s the only one who survived?”
“It means he’s capable and smart,” Eddie argued, trying to put an end to Chimney’s rant that had been going on for over a half hour.  “That’s good to have in a team CO.”
Chimney scoffed. “His entire team died except him. You going to be happy with him hanging you out to dry while he hightails it to safety?”
Eddie was beginning to think that the intel folder that had been sitting in his inbox wasn’t common knowledge as there’d just been a string of nonsensical numbers and letters as the sender’s contact information.  He’d been sent the extended—and highly classified—report on the Akuze Incident as well as the redacted official report that had been released to the press along with his official orders and a copy of Commander Buckley’s jacket. Eddie thought that Commander Buckley was lucky to have survived the first contact the Alliance had ever had with a thresher maw that had literally devoured an entire colony and then the rest of his naval special warfare unit that had been sent to investigate why the colony had gone dark.
Thresher maws were basically giant, hungry space worms with teeth the size of a small shuttle and spat acidic venom up to 3 clicks with eerie accuracy that would melt through shields and armor in less than two minutes.  If you didn’t die from the acid then you had to worry with either being eaten or crushed to death.  The damned things also hunted by noise and vibration so there was no escaping them other than getting off planet in a hurry.
Eddie might have nightmares about incidents like Akuze.  Commander Buckley had his respect for surviving one. The fact that the commander wasn’t out of his brain and stashed in some head doctor’s padded room drooling from being drugged to the gills spoke to his mental strength and resiliency.  The rest of his military jacket was even more impressive with the noted list of assignments and commendations including that he’d graduated from the Interplanetary Combatives Training (ICT) program and was one of the rare N7s.
Eddie’s only question was who had sent him the file—he was to be the XO for the ground team but it was highly unusual for him to have gotten this much intel up front…so who had given it to him?  It could be Captain Andersen since his name was also all over Commander Buckley’s file which suggested a mentor-mentee relationship but it could also have been the Commander himself or a third party who wanted to somehow prejudice Eddie in some way.
He was inclined to give his new CO the benefit of the doubt and see how things went.  Paperwork often omitted some truths and as a biotic Eddie had experienced his fair share of off-the-books blowbacks and prejudices.
Chimney, however, wasn’t.  The man was an inveterate gossip and had his ear tuned to get all the latest scuttlebutt.  Eddie had only known him for a few weeks but he knew if he needed to know anything about anybody on the ship then Chimney was the person to see.
