Lessons from the Pandemic
The pandemic is teaching us many lessons, the biggest lesson being, it's important we work together and support each other.
Personally, I have learned many things. Initially when we heard about the pandemic and there was talk about us catching the virus, government scientists talked about a pre-condition and those people being more susceptible to catching the virus.
Months in and it was becoming clear, that we're all vulnerable, and we can all catch Covid, but those with a pre-condition would be worse off if they caught the virus and worst case scenario, they might die. Having a pre-condition myself, I am hoping I never have to put that to the test.
The Covid vaccine does protect, but it's not protecting enough, and the protection it has reduces over time and you can still catch and spread Covid. It is the reason the booster was first introduced. Due to the issues with the first vaccine, there is now a second vaccine, but the UK isn’t stocking it currently. Eligibility for the new vaccine is for the 18/50′s so not everyone is eligible. According to the media, the government placed an order, but cancelled it.
If the new vaccine doesn’t come into circulation in the UK, people shall have to rely on the current vaccines, which aren't protecting enough. For those people who are immunocompromised, taking the vaccine means they may only have around 40% protection, which again, will significantly reduce.
There are many people like me, who fall into the being vulnerable and high-risk category and yet nothing has been said about how the vaccine fits for us. Initially, the government were prioritising the vulnerable and high-risk to take the vaccine, vaccinated first for a vaccine they don't know really know if it fits well enough.
Now with lifting precautionary measures, I am personally struggling with being given little choice as to how I live my life, with a government that simply doesn't care. My old life doesn't exist. With lifting restrictions everyone is now at risk, whether you have been vaccinated or not.
If I do want to get back into my life, I would have to ignore the fact there is a virus out there and potentially risk catching the virus. As a result I am now four-walled. When I do manage to go out, I have to wear full PPE in public enclosed spaces.
I couldn't guarantee my survival and if I did, I would potentially have to be hospitalised. When I am able to go out, I mask and visor up. I cannot go to pubs, coffee shops, restaurants or the theatre.
Fancy joining the conversation? Let us know if you are high risk or vulnerable, how you are ‘surviving’ in the pandemic? Have you struggled, are you still struggling, have you caught Covid, have you come through Covid okay, or have you been seriously affected?
We would love to hear from you, please let us hear your stories.

📕 𝗕𝗢𝗢𝗞 𝗧𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗜𝗘𝗪📕 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗕𝗘𝗧𝗧𝗘𝗥 𝗕𝗥𝗢𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗥 by Simon Gravatt ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀 Today I'm happy to share my thoughts about The Better Brother S part of the blog tour hosted by @randomthingstours on behalf of @reddoorbooks. Thank you for my spot on the tour and for my copy of the book in exchange for my honest review. 𝗠𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 I love a good bit of dark British humour, and The Better Brother delivered in spades! The bitter sibling royally made me wonder if either could be labelled as the better brother, or just the least worst. And the fact that the business is a funeral parlour makes it darker and funnier. You could tell the author drew from his personal experience as a business owner and sibling, although I found myself hoping that the rivalries in the book weren’t a case of art imitating life. The main characters Jack and Michael were nicely fleshed out and completely relatable, although I could not force myself to like Michael half as much as I did Jack. Being forced to work together as part of the inheritance deal must have felt unconscionable to both of them. Overall, the book almost read itself and I’m more than happy to recommend it to fans of Jonathan Coe, David Nicholls, and of dark comedies. I gave The Better Brother, by Simon Gravatt, four stars. My blog with additional info is live. 📚 BOOK PUBLICATION DAY 📚 The Best of Crimes by K.C. Maher . ☕ QOTD: Would you rather work more hours per day, but fewer days or work fewer hours per day, but more days? . ✏️ Synopsys: One afternoon in a leafy New York City suburb, Walter Mitchell walks into the local police station and turns himself in for kidnapping thirteen-year-old Amanda Jonette, his daughter’s best friend. The police chief tells him to go home – no one wants to prosecute. But Walter refuses, and is finally arrested and charged. . This is a novel about a man who is faced with temptation but does not succumb; the extraordinary relationship that develops between he and his beloved, and the bond between these two bright, lost individuals as the painful inevitability of the end draws near. . This timely and provocative book will appeal to fans of Marilynn Robinson’s Lila and Sofka Zinovieff's Putney. . 💟 My Rating: ❤️❤️❤️/5 . 🤓 My Review: I gave this book one ❤️ because the book is well written. I gave this book one ❤️ because of all the references to real events. And another ❤️ because the story was well structured and the characters well defined. . It’s been a while since we shared a #bookfacefriday ! Happy #publicationday (week) to K.C. Maher’s The Best of Crimea from @reddoorbooks . Walter, a math prodigy who works on Wall Street, has been like a father to Amanda, his daughter’s playmate and the only child of a neglectful single mother. But when he loses his job after the 2008 financial crash and his wife leaves him, taking their daughter, his relationship with 13-year-old Amanda enters a precarious new stage. Walter struggles to give her the affection and guidance she clearly needs, without succumbing to her budding sexuality. In the year before she enters high school, these two lonely souls will transform each other. Walter proves himself a true hero who is willing to sacrifice his freedom for the girl he loves. The Best of Crimes is an unconventional love story that will challenge your preconceptions and restore your faith in heroes. . . . #bookface #bookfacelicious #bookstagram #bookish #bibliophile #bookphotography #thebestofcrimes #litfict #literaryfiction #currentlyreading #weekendready #whattoread #readnext #fictionaddiction #librarylove #booksofinstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/B2EiFf7Ad4F/?igshid=1sss8ll0sia97

The Better Brother Simon Gravatt As the lone girl in a sibling gang of five, I found this to be both amusing and realistic. It was original, amusing, and engrossing, and the author's writing style drew me in. The characters were fantastic. You can tell they were well-thought-out and that a lot of work went into developing them. The author does an excellent job of describing sibling rivalry and the love-hate relationship between them. Thank you @randomthingstours & @reddoorbooks for organising and having me on this tour [pr product] The Better Brother is a darkly comic tale of sibling rivalry laced with the power, passion, revenge and everyday friction of family business. It explores what happens when two warring brothers are forced to work together. Will Michael and Jack learn to respect each other? Or will their acrimony escalate? If so, who will come out on top? ⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ #bibliophile #book #bookaddict #bookaholic #bookblogger #bookcommunity #bookish #booklove #booklover #booknerd #bookphotography #bookreview #books #booksbooksbooks #bookshelf #booksofinstagram #bookstagram #bookstagramer #bookstagramespaña #bookstagramgermany #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #bookstagrampl #bookworm #igreads #instabook #read #reader #readersofinstagram #randomthingstours (at Par, Cornwall) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cb6axDXKJ1D/?utm_medium=tumblr

Book Tour Reviews - 1
Spirituality, Healing and Me
‘Book Tour Reviews’
I am currently doing a ‘book tour review tour’ for ‘Spirituality, Healing and Me’ to celebrate the launch of the book in the USA on the 1st May, 2022. If you’re interested in buying a copy, I would be grateful for your support.

First of all, thank you so much to @ilana_estelle_author for the proof copy and @instabooktours for organising this book tour!
I often find it very difficult to rate non-fiction, therefore I will discuss which aspects of this book I enjoyed more than others.
I believe that spirituality is about “what makes me me”. As a trainer in the mental health industry, I often discuss the importance of attitudes, beliefs and values in shaping our actions and experiences. It was so great to see this mirrored in the pages of Ilana’s book. I admire Ilana’s ability to remain positive in spite of all the hardships she has encountered in her life, and as such, I was inspired.
I loved that Ilana brought elements of Psychology into the mix. After finishing my Psychology BSc in 2017, I continue to enjoy reading about the subject I have been so passionate about for many years. Ilana incorporates mindfulness, which is something I try to practice whenever I can.
If I had this book in physical format, I have no doubt that I would have tabbed the parts that resonated with me most strongly, so that I could refer back to these when I need a change of perspective. Therefore, if you do check out this book, my advice would be to purchase it in paperback – available as of yesterday (happy publication day for yesterday @ilana_estelle_author )
One thing I would have loved to see more of would have been more context from Ilana’s life. However, I’m sure this just means I need to check out her other novel, A Cerebral Palsy Story, which I know was loved by many, including the lovely @whatslottiereading
alice.in.story.land
What an eye opening book!
As someone who is already very spiritual this book really spoke to me from the very first page.
I won’t lie I have been having a really tough time recently and my spiritual journey has taken a massive back seat and after reading this I have realised that was the wrong thing for me to do.
This book teaches us how to live a spiritual life and how it can be used to help not only you but others too.
It tells you about selflessness and humility, karma (the real meaning), why integrity is so important.
This is by no means a religious book and it is not pushy in any way. If you are unsure if you are spiritual this is definitely the book for you to help you with your journey.
Thank you to @instabooktours for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review. I will definitely be recommending this to my circle (spiritual group)
If you’re interested, I would be grateful for the support. If you fancy grabbing your copy so charities may benefit, please go to the following link https://linktr.ee/Ilana_Estelle
