I'm glad you're keeping the part where Thunder puts himself between Clear Sky and Grey Wing, willingly showing that he would rather die before letting Clear Sky kill his dad.

That's actually a Bones Addition. You just think it's canon because it literally should have been there from the very beginning. Thunder doesn't get between them at any point during the battle, he runs towards them only to get interrupted by 2 people trying to kill him.

First was Falling Feather, who Jackdaw's Cry then jumps on and dies fighting with, sister killing brother.

Second was Leaf, who's a diehard Clear Sky supporter and general bully.

In canon, Clear Sky stops the battle after Gray Wing says the line, non-fucking-sensically imo. Killing his BROTHER is too far, but killing someone who wasn't even attacking him? A noncombatant who said something mildly insulting? That wasn't. Rainswept Flower did the SAME thing Gray Wing did and still got bumped off for it;

“Is this worth it?” he heard Clear Sky hiss at Rainswept Flower. Scrambling to her paws, she faced him. “What do you mean?” Clear Sky flattened his ears menacingly. “Are you ready to die just to stop me from making borders?” Rainswept Flower curled her lip. “You’ll keep stealing land as long as we let you.” “Stealing land?” Clear Sky’s mew trembled with rage, “I’m just making sure my cats never starve.” Rainswept Flower’s gaze flitted around the lush slopes of the hollow. “How could any cat starve here? There’s so much. Wanting more is just greedy!” “How dare you!” With a snarl, Clear Sky leaped for her, grabbing her throat between his jaws. Her paws flailed desperately, lashing out at thin air as he shook her like prey. Then she hung still. Clear Sky dropped her, gazing coldly at her lifeless body. “You never understood. I’m not greedy. I’m just strong.”

Then in Clear Sky's pathetic wet beast scene, he stares down at Rainswept's corpse, and thinks "I was so angry I don't remember killing her :("

So how, exactly, does this same character keep his cool when Gray Wing says the same shit but worse?? Is he really so controlled by emotion that his logical processes flip off, or fucking not? Gray Wing was refusing to submit, lunging at him, calling him power hungry and taunting him that he would kill his own littermate for it, and THAT manages to get through Clear Sky's blood-poisoned head?

"ouuugh it's his brotherr that's why his personality completely changes for him" the fucking guy tried to have this same brother murdered in Sun Trail by Fox. The first book. He EXILED HIS OTHER BROTHER for having a broken leg because he, "didn't want to look biased"

Again; is he controlled by his fear and anger or not? Is this a man who would snap the neck of someone he cares about because he feels insulted, or not?

The answer is that the Erins are breaking their spines bending over backwards to try and keep him "redeemable" when he shouldn't be. He's whatever the plot needs him to be, but the most consistent character traits point towards Clear Sky being the kind of person who would never have wanted to change his ways.

So, they write Clear Sky ridiculously backing down for Gray Wing, calling off the battle and "coming to his senses" instead of having Thunder do WHAT HE SHOULD HAVE DONE and jump to his REAL dad's defense.

This is what I mean when I mention how firmly I feel that Clear Sky's Redemption Arc was a mistake. He works best as a villain, a fearful, proud, controlling monster, understood by his impacts on other characters rather than as a person the story should concern itself with sympathy for.

#and because of that. Because of THAT. #DOTC is full of abuse apologia. #Because it firmly and desperately wants you to empathize with people like Clear Sky. His victims? The story is less interested in them #DOTC decided early on that Clear Sky was a 'good person deep down' and was working to that conclusion from the start #WC as a series believes that there are good people and bad people #And good people can sometimes do bad things but they're still good 'under it' #I reject this. There are NOT fundamentally good nor fundamentally bad people #We ARE our actions. Not our thoughts. Not some innate quality #It's never too late to be a better person and to do better than you did yesterday #But people like Clear Sky are terrible because *they dont care.* #They will never change because they don't want to #And focusing soooo hard on this person waiting for him to 'reveal' the goodness inside of him Deep Down is a fool's game #You will be disappointed over and over again #He HAD power and you see what he wants to do with it #Control and abuse people so they never leave or scare him. #He is an angry and egotistical person. tams azula is sooo fascinating bc while canon azula doesn't really show her age at all like she's completely desensitised to so much shit 'she is fourteen' is not a justification for ANYTHING both in her own mind and in other people's, in tams she has zuko. and yes the world has been abundantly cruel to her but zuko hasn't. he's basically raised azula and he's done so in a way that she's allowed to show her age, but she still only shows her age in very azula-esque ways. there's no reluctance to see violence like you'd expect from a fourteen-year-old, and like ive said before, that means zuko can't play on that reluctance in order to shield her, but he still wants to shield her from that violence because regardless of what SHE feels about it, as the eldest he knows fundamentally that she shouldn't be seeing certain things no matter how well she can handle them. and seeing zuko effectively PLAY azula in order to protect her is so interesting and complicated and fun

i think my favourite little horrible (positive) callback in the Generations trilogy is where Drizzt tries to insist that Zaknafein was at peace when he was dead an he was Fine and Okay and you CAME TO ME IN A DREAM AND YOU TOLD ME YOU WERE FINE which is a reference to him having a dream after he rescues Wulfgar from Errtu about his dad, and his repeated ‘i’m really trying to convince myself despite not knowing anything’ litanies of how Zak definitely went to a good place and was at peace after he died because his death has to mean SOMETHING, right, he earned SOMETHING, right,

and Zaknafein’s answer is “I literally don’t remember that. I don’t remember anything. It was just darkness.”

And on one hand I genuinely think Zaknafein getting to Stop Thinking for like a century and it being like no time passed at all, he just went into stasis, was the kindest thing any kind of god or afterlife could have done for him but it also just, doesn’t comfort Drizzt at all. And it’s a really subtle but very interesting underlining of how, even in these basic survival impulses, Drizzt and Zak diverged hard and are sort of mutually ???? about it.

She challenged Jesper with a sharp look when he mumbled a sarcastic, “As her majesty wills it…” Wylan slid to the floor, Jesper’s arms still encircling him. He found his feet and Jesper’s hands moved to support him as he turned— He greeted Nina with a sheepish look and a very soft, “Um, hey.”

#peridots-art #rain world #scavenger rain world #...usually only draw set characters of games and not. creatures. so that's new for me #absolutely love specbioing these guys though!! buggifying them scratches the right itch in my brain especially when they could reasonably #be buggy in canon!! #bugs #clarification on the ''shrek is maybe two guys'' thing ahead. first we'll argue for One Guy #1. both found in the same region at the same time 2. remarkably similar coloring and mannerisms (seemed to be the pack leader) #and now evidence supporting the two different guys theory: #1. travelled with a different pack of scavengers the second time vs when i found it 2. second time had slightly duller colors and noticably #longer horns (without the little gradient at the end) #so now you see why i didn't notice anything wrong until after reviewing the screenshots. BUT!!! secret third option!!! #the first one with the short horns was found first when i was using the entrance-to-industrial shelter #and the one i mostly relied on for reference was near the higher shelter. shrek numero dos. the canon shrek. #but i have a screenshot of shrek 1 in the place shrek 2 was found. hanging out with one of shrek 2's pack members no less. #conclusion: ??? #ok now that that's ''settled''. don't let this all distract you from the fact that the simple act of SWITCHING TO THE SHADING LAYER #got me out of a four-month-long mental rut. i can't say that it was depression nor that i know anything about depression in the first place #but even if it wasn't very serious? it Sucked. even if it was just a nagging thought at the back of my mind my life was duller somehow #i started to feel a little unmotivated. lonely. anxious. like the days blend together. the things i liked weren't bringing as much joy #and all of that got worse recently. the main reason i haven't posted any art for like a month? art stopped being fun. #which is a TERRIBLE thing for someone like me who loves to draw so so much. so when everything that's been building up over the past months #just vanished completely? without warning? you better believe i teared up over a doodle of a scavenger for making me feel right again. #i'm overjoyed to be free of it. i'm hopeful again! i love myself again! i can fall in love with the world all over again!!! #i have no idea how this happened. but i have motivation and determination and i feel like i can change my life for the better now. if i try #maybe this was my normal but it's the striking opposite of what I've been feeling--i'm finally proud of my accomplishments! and of myself!! #which was something i couldn't say in earnest even before december. #and reader? i call you tag-wanderer for i have no way of knowing who you are. maybe a treasured mutual or maybe a stranger. but i love you. #and i hope you make your way out.

Finally crawling out of his hiding spot in the brambles, he meticulously brushes the leaves from his clothes and composes himself, now fully focused on his generic traveler's map of the area... After checking it about 500 times just to make sure he isn't confused, he determines that going down the nearby river would likely still get him where he's trying to go, and hopefully be much less treacherous than wandering through haunted forests or confronting the stern gaze of the barrier guards..

It only takes about 10 minutes of following a narrower rocky path off the main road to reach a nice shaded spot of land next to a small river. He kneels in the grass, eagerly rummaging through his backpack for supplies, in addition to whatever he can scavenge from the edge of the woods. The rush of excitement slowly dissipates however, once he realizes that he.. actually.. might not know how to make a raft as well as he thought... Surely it's quite straightforward, no? Just.. make it look like it does in picture books?? There are no rules, as long as it floats, it works! Probably anyone could build one on intuition alone! ... maybe...???

.. Once again sinking into a cloud of anxiety, he slumps over, staring at the pile of materials with teary eyes, doubtful what to even do next.... How should he build the raft? Help him by using the poll to choose the appropriate amounts of materials (determined by final % of votes in that category)!

I just wanted something that was really short and easy since the last two has #*had such long explanation text and more effort going into like what different paths there could be and etc. #Since before I add a poll option I make sure that it's something that could actually be followed to it's logical conclusion and like #actually happen (like I didn't include 'fight the guards' in the last poll because obviously just realistically he would lose #and be sent to whatever this worlds version of jail is and then probably the story would end lol. It could then become about #strategizing a way to break him out like.. obviously you can still do something with that and it can still be interesting lol. but I just #mean it kind of derails things a little too heavily. if that makes sense. etc. etc.). If it was 100% wood - he would just have a pile of tree branches held together with nothing #etc. etc. Ideal measurements are probably at least over 50% wooden branches. and whatever of anything else. #As long as there's also rope lol. 50% branches and 50% flowers still wouldn't be anything really jhhj #ANYWAY.. #Though it could go wrong I'm actually not expecting some sort of weird result. most people have voted very reasonably so far #and are not like trying to sabotage him or anything or choose the weirder choices. in light of it coming out the “vanadis incident”, what is heavily implied to be the prologue, was indeed 21 years ago, i went back over the cradle planet short story, which can be read here.

Transcription:

“Mom came to this planet with her daughter, seeking refuge. People had hidden them, but that didn’t mean everyone had been friendly, and some elders had argued for expelling them to avoid trouble. Still, this was the only place that they could go. They had to live here. There was no other choice.” This paragraph stands out in particular to me as notable, given that Aerial (the entire story is from Aerial’s perspective) says “her daughter”, not “Suletta”. Aerial is obviously referring to Elnora coming with Ericht to Mercury in these sentences, but the phrasing is such that Aerial could technically be referring to a different daughter of Elnora.

Transcription: “”Just you watch, everybody. Our daughter is going to avenge us!”“

She could be referring to Aerial. This line comes when Prospera talks to Aerial alone, near the end of the story. Note that in the prologie, Cardo Nabo and many of the workers at Ochs Earth made a point of stating that Lfrith was ‘everyone’s child’.

This evidence seems to support the idea that Suletta might be well be a clone, or, as evidenced by Enhanced Person Number 4 existence, someone who has had their face reconstructed in the form of another’s.

However, there are still some lines from this short story which don’t align with this theory:

“Ergo’s the leader of the elders who are still mistreating Suletta.

He was originally against the idea of taking them in, and now he’s working under Mom after her recent promotion. I can understand his situation, but it’s no reason to be mean to Suletta. What a childish old man.”

The way these lines are phrased heavily imply that Suletta was a part of ‘they’ who were taken in. It would be a very strange construct in English to set Suletta as the subject of mistreatment, then mention mistreatment towards a party that did not include Suletta, only to continue talking about Suletta’s mistreatment. It’s not impossible that this is a misdirection, but if it is, I find it to be a very strange one.

The material in the novel indicates that Suletta has lived a relatively normal, straightforward life from the age of four to the age of sixteen; this would align with Suletta and Ericht being the same person. Suletta does not have any memories from before she was four years old; but who does?

Transcription:

“Suletta had been too young to remember living anywhere but Mercury.”

In particular, Aerial notes that Suletta lived somewhere else before coming to Mercury, which could align with Ericht’s backstory, or, perhaps, Prospera abducted an Earthian child, given she has been known to travel frequently between Earth and Mercury, and applied the same horrific treatment to that child as was done to Enhanced Person 4.

...but then there’s the matter of elders being mean to Suletta before Prospera takes her role as CEO of Shin Sei (or the superior of the workers at Mercury).

“One day Suletta, who is now nine, comes to me in tears.

She says one of Mercury’s elders has been mean to her.

But she hasn’t told Mom. Why not?

“Because she’ll worry.”

Mom came to this planet with her daughter, seeking refuge.

People had hidden them, but that didn’t mean everyone had been friendly, and some elders had argued for expelling them to avoid trouble.”

What reason would the elders have to be cruel to Suletta here, if not because they wanted her gone as a result of her arriving with Prospera?

To make a long story short, there’s nothing concrete that says Ericht is Suletta, and nothing concrete that says Ericht is not Suletta, but there is a whole lot of suggestive wording and potential misdirection that means it could go either way.

If Ericht really is Suletta, given that she seems to genuinely believe she is 17 years old (and if she weren’t, I would think it fairly obvious. A twenty-five year old and a seventeen year old are quite distinguishable), why?

Or rather... when did Prospera and Suletta arrive on the planet Mercury?
