So while rewatching the live action trailer a 50th time i kind of started thinking about something.
There's a few moments in atla that always seemed untouchable to me. Not only because they were well executed when it comes to storytelling, but also bc we never actually see the moments in question. Examples are: the attack on the air temples, Ozai burning Zuko, Katara's mother's death. We hear about these from other characters who happened to be there, or in case of the air temples: we hear the moment being retold as history. It's the latter i want to expand on.
The original cartoon never shows us even a glimpse of the attack on the air temples. You could say "well it's a kid's show they can't show a brutal genocide" but honestly, we're talking about a cartoon that showed a skeleton on screen in the third episode, showed the main character getting electrocuted and plummeting to his death, and showed a man being drowned by a spirit. The reason they didn't show it imo, is because it makes sense for the narrative. This attack was a century ago. Everyone that witnessed the attacks and was old enough to remember them is dead. Bumi is the only person we know of that was alive at the time and old enough to somewhat remember, but he wasn't present. It's comparable to world war one for us. There's nobody alive currently that properly remembers WW1. We're being told about it in history class, we get shown those weird black and white videos of smiling soldiers on their way to their death, pushing carts through the mud, them shooting a few canons, the trenches etc. But there's no first hand recollections. The creators really drove home the point of the airbender genocide being ancient history to the current inhabitants of this world by never showing us the attacks itself, and only having it be a known historical fact. It's just something that happened, it was long ago, nobody remembers it. All they know is there's no more airbenders, they're extinct, and nobody remembers jack shit about airnomad culture and philosophy except those that study it (aka professor zei) and even then, it's based off of destroyed architecture and hard to find historical texts that i'm sure the Fire Nation tried their best to erase. The viewers of the show only get information about air nomads through Aang, and whatever flashbacks from his own memory he provides. It leaves us wanting to know more, and it feels extra tragic knowing we'll only have Aang to rely on to tell us the tales of his people (for atla specifically, i know we now have more info due to the avatar novels).
Netflix however, literally opens their trailer with three shots of the attack. The comet, then the fireballs being shot, then the firebenders and airbenders facing off. I don't like this decision to show the battle that took place, because then the point of it being ancient gets a bit lost. We as the audience get more information than the main characters have, and idk but to me that kind of ruins the experience?
Same with Zuko getting his scar. Not only are they gonna show us that, they put it in the trailer. Why? This is a very important character moment in the show that we don't even get to see bc it's told from Iroh's perspective and he looked away the moment it happened. Before this we were given crumbs as to how Zuko got his scar. And Netflix is just tossing it our way like Peeta tossed bread at Katniss Everdeen.
I might feel differently abt this when the show airs (although not likely lol) but currently i'm just kind of mad at these creative decisions being made man

I didn't know it was your birthday today. I wish you the best and that you draw better than before, and I also like your drawing style. Keep it up and avoid other critics. Although I would like if you have more time to make some requests for me. Happy birthday once again, my best friend! 🥰😄😁
Thank you very much! Sorry for not answering you earlier, commitments and other things, but I'm glad about it. More precisely, my birthday is on April 5, if you didn't know, and for the others if they want to know, here's when my birthday is.
Apart from one or two people from another social network, I didn't hear any bad criticism about me and my drawings, although there were tips to do better than before and I thank them for those tips that helped me to do my drawings better. I try as much as I can, and I have a lot of ideas that I want to realize with new drawings, the only problem is that time passes quickly, so you need to plan your time well.
Once again, thank you for your greetings, as well as the others who gave me greetings and gifts these days (who hasn't yet, you can later, if someone wants to do it as a gift for me) and I'm very glad that you are so passionate about my drawings. And I know, maybe one day there will be drawings related to your ideas of ducks traveling in space (Ducktales in space), so I can do one for you too, if you really want. Certainly, besides that, there will be more surprises related to my drawings regarding ducks, crossovers, holidays, parodies, history, and related to my fanfictions, cosplays, other tributes to cartoons and comics and video games and other things. Although the only thing is that I still have to practice drawing complex things like drawing nature and mountains as well as architectural buildings and various transport vehicles. But it will be better when I perfect it.
Thank you very much for these words and thank you for these congratulations, I appreciate it! And thank you all for following me and supporting my works, I appreciate it!

I imagine someone else will point out that Red is a woman, so I'll go into detail on the channel itself.
Overly Sarcastic Productions has two main people: Red and Blue.
Red does mythology and stories, and she also does a lot of art (and has her own webcomic with a blog here on Tumblr, @/comicaurora). The channel started with her doing Shakespeare breakdowns she's not very proud of these days.
Blue does history and architecture, and most of his videos are either his cartoon self sitting around as he exposits or maps he fills in himself.
They've also done a few joint videos, mainly the Detail Diatribes, where they pick a topic, like the Netflix Castlevania's Dracula, and going to deep detail on the themes inherent to the topic.
Honestly kinda dope

I LOVE JOHANNA
Tumblr media
Guys. I have to admit. I love Johanna. Johanna is THE perfect mother of all mothers in all of cartoon history. Why? First of all, most of her time was spent on raising one kid and one kid only because dumb ANDERS thinks that he can just get away with all of his problems including child support, and despite all of that, the fact is Johanna loves and supports Hilda more than anything. She is and WAS willing to give up EVERYTHING just so her own daughter could live a better and longer life. Two, she is an excellent graphic and art designer!! Her designs are truly iconic in the Trolberg architecture, even if that meant nearly having her soul taken away in the Tide Mice episode. She is a talented woman who absolutely deserves more recognition for her work. Three, SHE MAKES THE BEST CUCUMEBR SANDWICHES!!! How can you go wrong with Johanna's cucumber sandwiches?!?! I mean seriously, what other cucumber sandwiches have you tried before that could even remotely compare to the level of quality and perfection that is Johanna's delicious cucumber sandwiches. If you don't know how to make them, the recipe is in the Hilda's Sparrow Scout Badge Guide book, though honestly I would highly recommend reaching to Johanna and asking her to make you a cucumber sandwich herself, it’s is the definitive way to eat her cucumber sandwiches. And finally number four, SHE IS SO PRETTY LIKE OHMAYGAWD 😍😍❤️❤️ JOHANNA IS LITERALLY THEEEE MOST PRETTIEST WOMAN ON THE PLANET‼️‼️ I have a feeling that when they were choosing a voice actress for her, they wanted to have someone in mind who had the richest, soothing, and relaxing mother voice in the world and I think that Daisy Haggard voicing her was the best decision the Hilda team could have ever made. Not to mention her beautiful hair style and smile, Anders was fucking stupid for trying to leave her in the first place, but now I wish he wasn’t with us at all because I really really would like to date her now so can someone at Netflix please remove Anders out of the new season so I can be in it instead please? Thank you.
Anyways in conclusion, Johanna is the not only the best mother in the world, she's the best art designer, cucumber sandwich maker, store clerk, and everything in between as well as being the best looking woman in all of cartoon history don't debate me on that I don't care nothing is better than her unless maybe Bandit Heeler from Bluey thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Thundercats (1985) Headcanons
As per my last post this is entirely conjecture based exclusively on the 1985 cartoon and nothing else. I have never watched the 2011 show or read the comic.
Reader beware, you're in for.... a lot
Thunderans in general
They have tails. idc what the show says they have tails. Some of them have lost their tails, in battle or otherwise. Will note which characters have which.
They can purr and hiss. Also they slow blink to show affection (like real cats!)
Wildly different heights from canon. Might update with height chart to elaborate later.
OG Thundercats all come from nobility and their paranatural abilities are a noble bloodline thing.
Thundera homophobic? It's more likely than you think. You know we love to hurt ourselves.
Lion-o
Was 12 when Thundera was destroyed. 17 after being sent to Third Earth. 20 when they discover the new Thundercats.
Autistic Himbo who loves ancient history. Could spend hours every day studying ancient history and views what little remains of First Earth as a treasure trove of ancient mysteries.
Bisexual. Had a crush on Cheetara as a teen, but once the new Thundercats showed up he fell head over heels for Bengali.
Cis man (he/him)
Speaking of which, marries Bengali, who he adores. He would die for his wife but he won't let him.
Has a tail. It only reaches his knees so is fairly out of the way.
Grew up feeling very isolated in the palace. There were servants, sure, and his nanny Snarf and mentor Jaga, but rarely got time to leave the palace and didn't interact much with his parents. He'll do about anything to get people to like him and fears the people closest to him will eventually abandon him.
Survivor's Guilt hits heavy when someone says to your face "we cannot save these people, we are prioritizing you". Even worse when your mentor dies to save your life.
Loves going camping and spending time in the wilderness. He picked up many survivalist tips from the people of Third Earth. He hates being cooped up inside and is slightly claustrophobic, and roughing it out in the woods every so often keeps him happy and calm.
Every so often he comes to Lynx-o just to ask him about his father, about Thundera's history. Lynx-o likes any excuse to tell his stories to people who haven't heard them a hundred times already.
Tygra
Was 20 when Thundera was destroyed. 25 on Third Earth. 28 when they find the new Thundercats
Gay gay homo sexual gay
Cis man (he/him)
Perfectionist with self-destructive tendencies. Addictive personality (both drug abuse episodes in the series were about Tygra, much to think about)
Has a tail. It used to be longer but he lost around half of it in an incident he still doesn't like to talk about.
Long term relationship with Panthro, they get married on Third Earth
Adopts the Thunderkittens along with Panthro. These two are the first the kittens turn to for parenting and comfort. At first they don't want to broach the topic in case the kittens get hurt but the kittens approach them after hearing Bengali and Pumyra talk about how Lynx-o has become a father to them and they call him dad sometimes.
Had strict, demanding parents who expected nothing less of perfection from him in everything he did: architecture, gymnastics, science, mental abilities, all of it. He regularly burned himself out trying to earn their approval until he became a Thundercat, at which point he ignored all contact from his family.
Had a hero crush on Panthro for a very long time, thought he'd grown out of it but when he became a Thundercat and began seeing Panthro in person it changed into a real romantic attraction.
Had multiple casual flings before actually dating Panthro.
Views Bengali as a little sibling, he sees his own naivety in relationships in her and wants to protect her but also they pick fights with each other a lot (mostly Bengali starts fights tbh).
Panthro
Was 29 when Thundera was destroyed. 34 on Third Earth. 37 when they found the new Thundercats.
Gay asf look at that harness. In the 80s??? That is a gay man
Cis man (he/him)
Had a tail, but it was cropped when he went down the route of becoming a fighter. A tail is just another weak point.
For relationship and adoption of kittens, see Tygra's entry above.
His and Tygra's relationship has been strained and they separated shortly before Thundera's destruction due to tension, but never stopped loving each other. Got back together shortly afterward.
He's not very good at expressing his deeper feelings, especially love and fear. This has been a source of tension in his and Tygra's relationship but it's mostly because Tygra can't see the way Panthro looks at him when he isn't looking at Panthro.
Grew up in a competitive household with a brother who would hurt him for fun, and always got away with some excuse or other. His brother was the golden child while he was often left out of the spotlight.
Actually pretty good friends with Bengali, they often end up working in the same spaces on their projects and occasionally collaborate on new gear.
Cheetara
Was 27 when Thundera was destroyed. 32 on Third Earth. 35 when they found the new Thundercats.
Bisexual
Cis woman (she/her)
Has a tail almost as long as her legs. Uses it for balance while she's running.
Has been athletic all her life, she finds comfort and destresses by working out regularly. Sometimes forgets her duties and responsibilities because she gets so in the zone.
Cheetara and Pumyra spend a lot of time working out together, both being more athletic than the other Thundercats, and developed feelings towards each other through athletic competition.
Goes on a morning run every day, usually to the Tower of Omens to go see her girlfriend.
She used to resent her psychic abilities, back on Thundera she was often made to use them as essentially a party trick despite how exhausted and hurt she would get afterward. As such she barely practiced using them. On Third Earth she was only rarely called upon to use them, only in emergency, and always given time and help to recover afterwards. She slowly grew to appreciate her ability and began to practice it until she could execute it more safely.
Struggles with feeling valuable when she isn't being useful, but has difficulty telling that to the others to get the support she needs as she's used to having to support herself.
Pumyra is her "exCUSE me, she asked for NO PICKLES" girlfriend.
Wilykit
Was 8 when Thundera was destroyed. 12 on Third Earth. 15 when they found the new Thundercats.
Still figuring herself out. She/her
Has a tail. Tries to take care of it, but with all the running around she and Kat do it's hard.
Has far more teenaged behavior than in the show. IDC what the show says those two are teens by s2 and dont talk or act like little kids anymore.
Usually the instigator of their shenanigans, especially the ones that land them in hot water.
She looks up to Panthro especially and often spends time watching and learning as he works on machines, even when she doesn't have to. Wants to build her own super cool vehicle, maybe with a sidecar for Wilykat.
She's the one who decided to talk to Tygra and Panthro about being adopted by them. They already had been, essentially, but nobody wanted to actually say anything in case feelings got hurt.
Wilykat
Was 8 when Thundera was destroyed. 12 on Third Earth. 15 when they found the new Thundercats.
Still figuring himself out. He/him
Has a tail.
See again: teen behavior. They still make poor decisions and can be childish, but they're not little kids anymore.
He's the first to break when they get in trouble, he's a bit more sensitive than his sister.
He doesn't start shenanigans, he just has very poor judgement and emotional control and will often make bad choices especially when he's angry.
Most likely to argue with the others, but also the first to apologize once he's cooled down.
Cheetara takes him under her wing in a sense and teaches him how to use exercise as an outlet for his excess energy. Tygra joins them too every so often, happy to see his adoptive kid enjoying himself.
Snarf
Age indeterminate.
He/him
Has a habit of still treating Lion-o like he's a child, even after he's a fully grown man and officially Lord of the Thundercats. Lion-o doesn't mind most of the time.
Much grayer in the face than the show depicts.
Doesn't really like sleeping in his own bed, will nap pretty much wherever in common areas so if something happens he can know about it.
Spends a lot of time worrying about something bad happening to Lion-o, especially when he can't come with and has to guard Cat's Lair.
Often thinks about retiring to the planet of Snarfs but can't bring himself to leave. He does retire eventually but mostly stays on Third Earth with the Thundercats he's gotten so attached to. Regularly visits the other Snarfs.
Initially distrustful of Bengali but has grown to like him, especially after seeing how happy he makes Lion-o.
Lynx-o
Was 50 when Thundera was destroyed. 58 when found by the Berserkers.
Kind of beyond dating for the moment, but prefers men.
Cis man (he/him)
Has a tail, but it's a bobtail like real lynx.
Was a martial arts instructor on Thundera, highly adept at most forms of hand to hand combat.
Never intended to be a father but after meeting Pumyra and then Bengali, has developed intense paternal instincts. He'll adopt everyone in this team if he has to.
Tygra and Panthro made up some braille signs for doorways and equipment for when Lynx-o visits Cats Lair.
As a young fighter on Thundera had a huge hero crush on Jaga. Used to be embarrassed by it but honestly is beyond that by now. Nobody's sure how to tell him Jaga's spirit is kind of hanging around still and can hear Lynx-o talk about him like that.
Will randomly approach Pumyra, Bengali, and/or Snarfer and drop Dad Lore before walking away. Those three are still trying to piece together his life story based entirely on Dad Lore Drops.
Pumyra
Was 21 when Thundera was destroyed. 29 when found by the Berserkers.
Lesbiab. Lesbiam. Less bien. Girls
Trans woman (she/her)
Has a tail. Sometimes grabs it by accident when she's going for her belt/sling.
Not really a specialist in any area beyond her athleticism, takes interest in learning as many skills as she thinks could be useful. Combat, first aid medicine, building, hunting and fishing, crafting clothes and tools. She'll climb the walls if she isnt learning and practicing some new skill or other.
Views Bengali and Snarfer as her little siblings, for better or worse. Was the first to be essentially adopted by Lynx-o and is the oldest of the three.
Short tempered, and just plain short. She's around Bengali's height- he is also short.
Sometimes spars with Cheetara. Always claims it's for training, but really she just wants an excuse to engage in homoerotic battle with a taller, stronger woman.
Lived stealth on Thundera, Lynx-o helping connect her with the medical assistance necessary to help her transition.
Speaking of which, once their survival needs were met her new biggest worry was not being able to get estrogen anymore. Once the Thundercats arrived she realized she could use the medical database and computers along with material found on Third Earth to create a new, steady supply.
(if they can solve all their problems with magic and if science can make shit like invincible superpowers real in this universe [i.e. the ep where vultureman does just that], i think sustainable HRT isn't too big of an ask)
Bengali
Was 17 when Thundera was destroyed. 25 when found by the Berserkers.
Genderfluid (he/him or she/her, depending on the day. Mostly prefers he/him) Gay (just likes men)
Had a tail. Lost her tail in an accident. Doesn't mind because without it he can show off his ass better.
Eventually marries Lion-o. Fell in love the moment he laid eyes on Lion-o. Anyone else notice throughout the series Bengali says that "Lion-o needs us" to do XYZ thing, when he means the team as a whole needs them to do it? His first line on seeing Lion-o is him stammering.
Didn't start experimenting with gender until Third Earth, at which point went nuts w it. Loves being called the Queen after marrying Lion-o. She doesn't have a name for it but it's essentially what we'd call genderfluid. Sometimes feels fem, sometimes masc, sometimes neither or both.
Grew up in an isolated tribe of Tygrans called the Ben-Gal whose culture was distinct from other Thunderans. They're smaller than other Tygrans and more likely to be born with white fur instead of orange.
Apprenticed at a forge from a young age at his parents' insistence (his father was a former blacksmith and wanted his kid to follow in his footsteps). Was something of a prodigy.
Entered a secret relationship as a teenager with one of the smiths working the forge who was in his twenties. When his parents found out, they kicked him out. His "boyfriend" refused to take him in and he ran away to the capital where he met Pumyra and Lynx-o, who took him in and tried their best to keep him safe. Pumyra became an adoptive older sister of sorts and Lynx-o was a father figure to both of them.
Partied hard after running away. Faked ID to get into clubs and drink and hit on men too old for him. His self destruction only really stopped when Thundera was destroyed and he lived for 7/8 years on an island with nothing but his found family and two Berbils.
She has adopted Snarfer as her baby brother and if anything were to happen to him she'd break the code of Thundera and end lives.
Snarfer
10 years old.
He/him
The fridge at the Tower of Omens is covered in his drawings.
Has a habit of standing in the room with people he wants attention from and just staring at them until they pay him attention. He has accidentally scared the others countless times doing this. The only one immune is Lynx-o, who will always eventually start up a conversation.
Listens to music as he does chores since it helps him focus on doing the work. The others don't really get his taste but if he's happy they're happy.
Has something of a know-it-all attitude but kind of grows out of it as he gets older.
Ropes the others into playing games with him. Hide and seek is his favorite but he needs to be careful because one time he fell asleep in his hiding spot and when they couldn't find him they were beside themselves and Bengali was about to disassemble the Tower before Snarfer woke up and came out of hiding.

The Astronomica (Classical Latin: [astrɔˈnɔmɪka]), also known as the Astronomicon, is a Latin didactic poem about celestial phenomena, written in hexameters and divided into five books. The Astronomica was written c. AD 30–40 by a Roman poet whose name was likely Marcus Manilius; little is known of Manilius, and although there is evidence that the Astronomica was probably read by many other Roman writers, no surviving works explicitly quote him.
The Apollo 15 postal covers incident, a 1972 NASA scandal, involved the astronauts of Apollo 15, who carried about 400 unauthorized postal covers into space and to the Moon's surface on the Lunar Module Falcon. Some of the envelopes were sold at high prices by West German stamp dealer Hermann Sieger, and are known as "Sieger covers".
The Battle of Hayes Pond, also known as the Battle of Maxton Field or the Maxton Riot, was an armed confrontation between members of a Ku Klux Klan (KKK) organization and Lumbee people at a Klan rally near Maxton, North Carolina, on the night of January 18, 1958. The clash resulted in the disruption of the rally and a significant amount of media coverage praising the Lumbees and condemning the Klansmen.
Canadian heraldry is the cultural tradition and style of coats of arms and other heraldic achievements in both modern and historic Canada. It includes national, provincial, and civic arms, noble and personal arms, ecclesiastical heraldry, heraldic displays as corporate logos, and Canadian blazonry.
General Gregor MacGregor (24 December 1786 – 4 December 1845) was a Scottish soldier, adventurer, and confidence trickster who attempted from 1821 to 1837 to draw British and French investors and settlers to "Poyais", a fictional Central American territory that he claimed to rule as "Cazique". Hundreds invested their savings in supposed Poyaisian government bonds and land certificates, while about 250 emigrated to MacGregor's invented country in 1822–23 to find only an untouched jungle; more than half of them died. Seen as a contributory factor to the "Panic of 1825", MacGregor's Poyais scheme has been called one of the most brazen confidence tricks in history.
Aluminium (or aluminum) metal is very rare in native form, and the process to refine it from ores is complex, so for most of human history it was unknown. However, the compound alum has been known since the 5th century BCE and was used extensively by the ancients for dyeing.
The Hitler Diaries (German: Hitler-Tagebücher) were a series of sixty volumes of journals purportedly written by Adolf Hitler, but forged by Konrad Kujau between 1981 and 1983. The diaries were purchased in 1983 for 9.3 million Deutsche Marks (£2.3 million or $3.7 million) by the West German news magazine Stern, which sold serialisation rights to several news organisations.
The Keldholme Priory election dispute occurred in Yorkshire, England, in 1308. After a series of resignations by its prioresses, the establishment was in a state of turmoil, and the Archbishop of York, William Greenfield, appointed one of the nuns to lead the house. His candidate, Emma de Ebor' (Emma of York), was deemed unacceptable by many nuns, who undermined her from the start to the extent that she resigned three months later.
Sir Osbert Lancaster CBE (4 August 1908 – 27 July 1986) was an English cartoonist, architectural historian, stage designer and author. He was known for his cartoons in the British press, and for his lifelong work to inform the general public about good buildings and architectural heritage.
Thomas Edward Neil Driberg, Baron Bradwell (22 May 1905 – 12 August 1976) was a British journalist, politician, High Anglican churchman and possible Soviet spy, who served as a Member of Parliament (MP) from 1942 to 1955, and again from 1959 to 1974. A member of the Communist Party of Great Britain for more than twenty years, he was first elected to parliament as an Independent and joined the Labour Party in 1945. He never held any ministerial office, but rose to senior positions within the Labour Party and was a popular and influential figure in left-wing politics for many years.

Researching Online: A Guide
Below are worked examples of how to do an essay or research project using only online resources.
Don’t spend ages looking for one article or book unless it is really essential and even then, you may not be able to get it, but you will find something related.
Vary your search terms, e.g. for the examples below: early modern, renaissance, reformation, sixteenth century might all be relevant.
Follow links in articles and on collections – often, footnotes in journals online may be hyperlinked to the item (especially in more recent publications), you can see similar items, or who has cited that work. For primary sources/collections, catalogues may suggest similar items too.
There will be dead ends and frustrations but persevere – there is lots of material out there.
Save things using a citation programme like Zotero or Mendeley
If you find something interesting and potentially useful for another topic, bank it for later
Be creative and use sources you might not have thought about before, for example the sound archive in the British Library and think across period and geography.
Google Scholar and on JSTOR/other platforms, Project Muse which is another very good platform with loads of open access material.
USTC: the USTC is a database of early modern printed books across Europe

Weekly Tag Wednesday !! Woohoo!
thank you for tagging me @jrooc, @mybrainismelted, @iansw0rld, and @lingy910y
Name: Gigi
Age: 24
Location: brooklyn baby!
And now, think about your childhood and tell me:
I'm thinking about 10 and under vibes, right?
Did you have a nickname and is it still used? Gigi! all you nice people and some of my friends call me that when they're being cute
What did you want to be when you'd grow up? I wanted to be an artist when i was really young, then i wanted to be a writer a lot of elementary/middle school, then i kept my options open through highshcool and last minute decided to go to architecture school and it was a very very good gut decision and in a way im an artist, fanfic writer, and soon to be licensed architect, best of all worlds!
Your favourite cartoon: when i was a kid me and my brother would wake up early to watch pokemon, I also liked the pbs show Sagwa, curious George (hey frank!) and clifford
Your favourite TV show: zoboomafoo !!!! fucking loved that guy!
Your favourite book: I had this book when i was a kid called Millions of Cats which was kind of a fucked up story and I would be very interested to see someone analyze what that book says about love. I also really liked Too Big bc look how cute the coloring is !
I also adored Ferdinand, I always thought that if i were to get a tattoo i would want to get Ferdinand sitting in his flowers
Tumblr media
Your favourite toy: I just loved stuffed animals, I had so many
Your favourite thing to eat: Just like, soups in general. but my favorite was saimin which weirdly I cant STAND now. its like ramen but instead of ramen noodles its thick, gnarly egg noodles and take half the flavor out and just add salt, genuinely think it would give me heart attack now
Your favourite school subject: I really liked all subjects except I hated biology and I hated spanish, not bc the language is bad but bc my teacher was a white lady from colorado who im not really sure actually spoke spanish. I really loved physics and english and history and art
How did you spend your summers? I lived in a very safe place so free roam go to the or the beach near us, if you didnt like the kids in your neighborhood you were fucked cause those were our built in play mates and on the hottest days i would find the coldest part of my house and just lay on the tile reading all day
Did you listen to music? If yes, did you have a favourite band/artist?
my mom had the elite early 2000s music taste; amy winehouse, tracy chapman, dolly parton, green day, the chicks, tina turner, smashing pumpkins, spice girls, alanis morissette, jack johnson, Lauren hill, so good, I still listen to them all today
And lastly, tell me something you did as a kid that your parents still don't know about:
I used to cut pieces of my hair periodically with the kitchen scissors but it wasnt like super noticeable so my mom was just like i really cant figure out why your hair grows like this
I also took the bus by myself a couple times when i was wayy to young to but it was a really simple bus system so i just got on and went to town and took it back, idk seems like it worked out okay!
what about you? @juliakayyy @krysmiss @darlingian @gallavichroom @vintagelacerosette

marvel's midnight suns | misc quotes 4
Tumblr media
Thank you for not making a bigger deal about my arrival…
I don’t think I can properly express my relief…
In truth, I’ve been in survival mode…
I do not believe in many of the common dark magics…
A risk is not a risk if it does not hold the potential for regret.
Well, for example, some species of bats can fly at speeds of up to 100 miles…
I’m sorry. I’m a bit on edge because I haven’t eaten in awhile.
No. And, for the record, I don’t sleep in a coffin just because I’m a vampire.
I know what it’s like to feel suffocated by a disease….
I was fifteen when I found out my mother was Capital “E” Evil.
I want to throw her a surprise party, but I can’t do it alone.
Pisses me off so much, I could scream.
Don’t bother. Kinda just want to be left alone.
And since chaos magic is a helluva lot more powerful…
But, poof, here this was… waiting for me.
You know, I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the first case of corruption in recorded history.
I’ve already lost enough people I care about.
You, uh, reunited our twisted little family…
You ever miss people from your past?
So, it’s time for them to move over and let the kids take the reins.
Maybe a somewhat dysfunctional family with a ton of issues to work through…
I feel called out. Figured since your mom is the Mother of Demons and all…
They make me feel like a child sometimes, but you don’t, so, like, thanks.
It’s something I make all my friends watch with me.
Anyway we’ll get some more quality one-on-one time. It’s a little retro…
Like why have a kid if you’re going to get rid of them…
Okay, I think that you think that I’m one of those good people, right…
How can you be sure that I’m not, you know, evil?
I’ll spare you the sappy stuff, but you’ve climbed to the top…
She’ll never forget how her favorite cartoon characters showed up as exotic dancers. Nor will she ever forgive me.
Of all the changes you’ve had to deal with, at least the music is better.
Meh. That requires effort.
That you were a godlike hero walking the earth, single-handedly holding back the forces of evil.
But what if I hurt you?
Sorry, I… I don’t feel like myself.
Is it weird that I think she’s going to be waiting for me in my dreams…
Forgot how relaxing it is to just zone out and watch a good movie after a long day of battle.
I mean, it was just a dream, right?
It’s all destroyed now, along with these poor peoples’ lives.
Of course I’d like to know more, but I trust you’re doing the best you can.
Instead I’m just… Numb. I’m starting to feel guilty that I don’t feel guilty.
But I still wonder if I truly belong, you know?
It’s not all magic wands and midnight margaritas.
I dunno. There’s so much to be happy about right now. You pick.
I wonder what they would say if they saw me now, saw who I grew up to be.
Wasn’t exactly the popular kid, if you know what I mean.
I’m not so sure you want to know… or I want to tell you.
So, I’m setting it in ink, because I never want to forget how you took a chance on me.
I feel like I can trust myself again…
With all these people, it’s not crowded, exactly. It certainly feels more alive.
For a moment, nothing. Then she burst out laughing and opened the door. We have been close ever since.
A collection of DVDs. I know it’s irrational to want them back, but I can’t stop thinking about them.
It shouldn’t be this easy. I always pictured a gulf between us.
Well, I never thought I could replace you. I wanted you to know.
I figured if I was going to be teaming up with this group, I ought to up my game. Sound more…I dunno…scary.
Sorry, the mask’s gotta stay on. I hope that’s not gonna make things weird between us.
I mean, I can’t shoot laser beams, light my skull on fire or glow like the sun…
Maybe I’ll use the Forge to bake a loaf of sourdough…
No, I mean helping him turn his life around. The way real heroes are supposed to.
Alien-possessed architecture gives me the extra creeps.

Back to the Future: The Animated Series, s01ep05 "Swing Low Sweet Chariot Race [AKA Roman Holiday]"
Previous episodes linked HERE
In this episode: Shenanigans abound in ancient Rome, Marty once again demonstrates why he shouldn't be taken anywhere, and Real Doc continues to spiral deeper into. Somethin'. I don't even know.
We begin our episode in 36 A.D. "Rome", where Doc is eating a big ol' plate of spaghetti and talking about how the ancient Romans didn't even know about the dish at that point and wouldn't until 1295.
"What we think of as Italian cuisine is completely unknown in this era. Marty found that out on our previous trip to ancient Italy," he says, all the while twirling the spaghetti around with his fork until it looks like this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You know how in BTTF II, Old Biff warns his younger self about a "wild-eyed scientist"? That phrase continuously pops into my mind whenever I see Real Doc in these segments. He—he doesn't blink. He always seems like he's 2 seconds away from snapping. Look at all that spaghetti. Something is wrong with this man.
Onto the cartoon!
Marty is once again riding his hoverboard out in the open for all the town to see as he heads to Doc's house. As he approaches, Jules and Verne (who are hiding in their treehouse) use a holographic projector to project an image of Doc standing in Marty's path.
Tumblr media
This causes chaos, as Marty swerves to avoid him and then runs into the real Doc. They crash and land in a large pile of junk in Doc's yard. Doc is not happy that his children have stolen and misused the device to pull a prank. He tells them to be on their best behavior as he takes a trip to ancient Rome to return some scrolls he'd borrowed. He mentions wanting to check out the "Roman arcades," which Verne thinks refers to video game arcades rather than an architectural feature. Doc grounds the boys and forbids them from accompanying him, and Jules swipes the holograph projector while his father isn't looking.
Marty wants to go, though, because he can use the trip to write an extra credit report for his history class. "Caesar! The man, the myth, the...salad," he says. Marty is an airhead.
Using the holographic projector, Jules and Verne project their images to make it look like they're still at home and sneak into the DeLorean. The gang takes off for Rome, where the boys promptly sneak off to check out the arcades. Marty, meanwhile, is hungry and wants pizza. He approaches a woman to ask if she knows of any places, and when she replies angrily in Latin, he goes, "Oh. Do they deliver?" *sigh* Marty. Dear, sweet Marty. What have they done to you? The cartoonists opened up your head and shook out your brain cells, didn't they? Poor boy.
Doc provides Marty with a universal language translator device he can wear in his ear that will allow him to understand and speak back to the locals. Honestly, I don't even think that will help him, Doc. Just take the kid back home, buy him some pizza, and call it a day.
Tumblr media
A mere 10 seconds later, as Doc is making his way through some crowds of people, he notices that Marty isn't following him and has wandered off. Of course he has. At this point, idk how Doc hasn't decided to put a tracking device on Marty. This would solve like half of their problems.
Doc only has a few moments to worry about Marty's whereabouts because he's then approached by Jules, who needs help rescuing Verne (who has gotten into trouble and is being chased).
Can I point out how much of a trooper Doc is? All of his children are constantly wandering off or getting into mischief and he still manages to hold it together. Although this stress could account for the crazed look in his eyes we see in the live segments. Hmm...
As Doc deals with his sons, we return to Marty, who is still on a quest for food. This guy is hungry. Perhaps that's why he seems so empty-headed thus far; his blood sugar is low and his brain is being starved of glucose. In his disoriented state, he's wandered off in ancient Rome. That's the theory I'm going with for now because the other option is to simply accept that they have made Marty a total doofus in this series.
Anyway, in an attempt to stave off his immense hunger, Marty buys himself "headless fish wrapped in stale bread." Yum.
Tumblr media
Here he is debating whether to eat it or succumb to hypoglycemia.
Marty ends up spilling his food on Bifficus Antanneny, who does not take kindly to the embarrassment and challenges Marty to a chariot race. When Marty tries to talk his way out of it, Bifficus calls him a chicken, at which point we get the classic, "Nobody calls me chicken!" line.
Did we not deal with this fully in part III? Didn't Marty learn his lesson about not losing control when people call him names? Why has he taken a tumble backward character-development-wise?
Right. They needed it for ~drama~.
Also, just a little side note: Bifficus's eye color changes randomly over the course of this scene, from black, then to blue for like 5 seconds, then black again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have to imagine this is the result of Marty having blue eyes, and whoever was in charge of this scene just automatically made Bifficus's blue for a little bit before realizing and switching back. And then they just shrugged and went, "Whatever. Who cares?" because this cartoon is bonkers as it is, so who's going to notice a character's eyes changing color for a few seconds?
Meanwhile, while Marty is busy making terrible life decisions, Doc is explaining the reality of slavery in ancient Rome to Verne (who had gotten in trouble with some guards for standing up for a slave he'd met). As he speaks, he mentions, "—societal injustice is frequently succeeded by rebellion." Unfortunately, a couple of nearby guards hear this comment and accuse Doc of planning a slave rebellion. He is taken into custody by two massive dudes who could crush him like a bug.
Tumblr media
Thankfully, Judah, the slave Verne had helped earlier, witnesses all of this and takes the boys through the catacombs and to a secret tunnel that leads to the cell where Doc is being held. They're able to break him out, which is good considering Doc is supposed to be fed to the lions soon.
We go to the chariot races then, where Marty is informed that Bifficus is going to allow him to sit and watch the "opening act" (the lions being released) before the race. Let's see how Marty is faring, shall we?
Tumblr media
There are tumbleweeds rolling around in that boy's head.
Marty does, however, freak out when he sees Doc step out into the arena. (Except, shhhh, it's not actually Doc; it's just a hologram of him! Remember the projector Jules stole before they left?) So, everything turns out peachy-keen. But, uhh, we still gotta deal with the whole chariot race thing. Is this episode over yet? It feels like I've been watching it for a hundred hours.
Doc has made some modifications on Marty's chariot, but they're to help him lose, not win. He explains that Bifficus remaining popular is vital to Caligula becoming Emperor of Rome and leading to the eventual downfall of the Roman Empire. If Marty wins, it would be devastating to the timeline. Doc explains all of this while writing notes and calculations on the wall, and I must share it because it looks so nonsensical.
Tumblr media
I very much enjoy the note toward the top that just says, "PASTA."
Marty ends up successfully losing the race, he gives his Chariot to Judah (then revealed to be Judah Ben-Hur), and they go back to the future. We return to Real Doc, who is lounging in a hammock after napping off his big pasta lunch from the earlier segment. He's wearing 2 different socks and still has on like 6 or 7 watches.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bill Nye shows us an experiment involving air resistance. (I realize I haven't actually included any screencaps or info on the experiment portion of these segments, but that's because they're just not all that interesting? I mean, they're cute little do-at-home science projects; I just haven't felt inclined to detail them here) But here is proof that Bill Nye is, in fact, in this show.
Tumblr media
Doc then returns to bid us the usual farewell, ("See you in the future!") but right after he says it, there's this moment where his camera cuts out for a moment, and then he does this bizarre blinking thing and— I had to gif it. Animated series Real Doc is on such a different level of weird than Trilogy Doc. Something happened. Something has happened to him. The additional time traveling post part III and the stresses of family life has taken its toll.
Tumblr media
He is not well.
That's the end of the episode. Clara was nowhere to be seen yet again. :(
Join me next week to see Verne single-handedly prevent the discovery of electricity.

Episode 576 - Aaron Lange
What is the meaning of Cleveland? Cartoonist Aaron Lange joins the show to talk about Peter Laughner & Proto-Punk In The Secret City (Stone Church Press), his breathtaking new graphic novel that weaves together obscure records, urban legends and psychographic history. We talk about Aaron's fascination with Cleveland's punk scene, why the musician Peter Laughner stood out to him, the way Cleveland's hidden landmarks pointed him toward this massive project. We get into the research and interviews Aaron conducted for Ain't It Fun, the process of editing this work into a looping, flaneur-like, discursive (but never aimless) narrative, and the influence of Greil Marcus' Lipstick Traces, Iain Sinclair's Lud Heat, and Adam Curtis' documentaries. We also discuss post-Laughner Pere Ubu, using graphic design rather than panel-to-panel cartooning, visiting the zodiac circle by the Cleveland Museum of Art at all 4 equinoxes, chronicling the city's brutalist architecture, the constraints of the comics market on a book that defies easy description, and a lot more. Follow Aaron on Instagram and support Stone Church Press via Patreon (which doubles as Aaron's blog) • More info at our site • Support The Virtual Memories Show via Patreon or Paypal and via our e-newsletter
