I think I get it now. This obsession with everything Hobonichi. The smoothness of the paper, the compactness of the book… Oh, and the fact that the pages get louder as I fill them with words and silly little drawings? I’m afraid I’m team Hobonichi now.
This purchase wasn’t planned. I didn’t even have a good use for it when I bought it back in November, but it’s since become my little dreambook - not a dream diary, but a place for dream images and daydreams, thoughts on media and reflections on things that make me feel something.
Finally got to redecorate the cover today. I love how the dark grey looks with gold, and how it completes my Midori B6 Slim planner/bullet journal both aesthetically and functionally.

Thought I'd share a spread in my lil bujo that I've been liking. I realized not long ago that weekly cleaning schedules aren't something I can keep up with in this season of life but I still want to do what I can to keep my home running smoothly.
So I put this monthly alphabet menu of cleaning tasks together. It makes setting up a cleaning spread super simple and leaves room for other non routine tasks that come up. Most of these tasks take me 15-20 minutes or less. On rough days I've done half of a task then finished it on another day. I doubt I'll finish every task each month but I figure some is better than none.
Also pictured are my relax and take a break menus. I've been keeping track of what activities I actually feel better after and wanted to remember which they were.

My Hobonichi A6 Techo saves my life every morning. I am extremely scatterbrained and easily distracted, and the ONLY way I can focus is by bullet journaling in my Techo. I’m a homemaker, and my A6 helps me keep track of everyday tasks that would otherwise slip my mind among my stack of constantly evolving to-dos. I don’t have the time in my day to perfectly decorate pages with washi and stickers or design intricate works of artwork for every spread, so a minimalist bujo approach is my go-to every day. Plus, the act of checking off tasks I’ve completed is really rewarding! I’m looking forward to trying out a Hobonichi Weeks Mega for 2023 and seeing if my approach translates well into the vertical weekly format. Do you keep a bullet journal? What planner are you using? Are you sticking with your current setup for 2023?

Turned an old unused 2022 Hobonichi A6 Avec into my daily journal.
Removed the monthly pages and left the cover and daily pages only.
I mark over the printed dates or place washi tape over it, then write in the current date. I keep it to writing only and don’t decorate the pages.
I find that writing only and without hesitation helps relax my mind and balances my thoughts. It has become a welcomed habit and enjoyable experience that I look forward to each day.
Reading the cover and inside cover page remind me that each day I just need to breathe and find the good that was part of my day or make it a good day myself .

Just a weekly and a daily. A little energy level tracker at the top and a to do list; a record of my day activities to show myself that I always do something not just waste a day and a commonplace entry that is my master do to list related to uni. A master to do list for the week, my days with work and gym hours. Plus my frixion pen and highlighter. It’s 6:30 AM why am I up?

On your ‘I think April of 2022 Megan had it cracked’ post, are you thinking of the avec system then? Or trying to keep the cousin? I’m just curious! I know when you where in the avec you had trouble cause when you’d turn the page you’d forget to move the tasks over (which was my main problem too when I was only doing 1 day 1 page bujo) so I’m just curious what your thoughts are in this! (Also I am NOT one of those anons who cares about your notebook ‘consumption’. Buy however many notebooks you want, find what brings you joy!❤️)
yeah! so here’s my thinking. i don’t use the weekly pages in the cousin anymore because i don’t find the columns good for to-do lists, and any other journal type notes i already have on the daily pages. i keep my sleep log in the calendar, so when im doing my daily updates, i fill the daily page and the calendar bits and then i flip to the weekly section and im like 😐 you.
i’ve been looking for the perfect “companion” book for my cousin as a portable place to keep my weekly to-do list, but am struggling a bit because the weeks feels like a poor fit, the TN passport feels too small/awkward to write in, i don’t really want to go back to field notes, etc.
i was cleaning yesterday and sorting through my old hobonichi boxes and realised that the a6 avec system that i had in early 2022 could be the solution? daily entries and notes in the dated pages, sleep log in the calendar, no weekly section to worry about now that i no longer need it. im looking at the ‘days free’ as my second book- an extra set of calendar pages for appointments/events/scheduling, blank pages for weekly running to-do lists, lots of room for commonplacing and extra notes (with pre-drawn margins and page numbers, too).
in the video i made in 2022 i was saying that i was having trouble maintaining the two books equally, but after working in a5 for a long while and refining my commonplace practice i don’t think that would be an issue anymore. so im like. huh. maybe past megan had it all worked out and i just wasn’t ready for it yet. but now it kind of seems like it might solve everything? using the avec system also means i don’t have to worry too much about bulking, and i get that archive/fresh start feeling midway through the year, while still having a complete set at the end.
idk i might test it for november and see. i’ll probably rehome my 2024 weeks and maybe the TN passport booklets because neither really feel like the right fit for my needs, disappointingly. then by december i can probably work out if the 2-book a6 system is working as imagined or if i should just stick with the cousin (probably without a companion book). i wish i had been able to work it all out without so much experimentation and so many purchases but unfortunately i’ve always been someone who learns best with hands-on practice so maybe there was no other way 🫠 ig it all led to the knowledge i have now, the refinement of my practice, the clarity of what i really, truly need from my notebooks, etc. so idk. but that’s where i’m at with it
either way hopefully whatever i go with at the end of december will be it. whether it’s the cousin or the a6 pair, i’ll have settled. and that’s a nice feeling

Hey rose :) If you don't mind can you say for what you use your A6 notebooks?:') sending hugs!
Tumblr media
Hey 🌹 The Leuchtturm 1917 is for commonplace journaling, I haven’t come up with a system yet so stay tuned on that. Moleskine notebook is my general journal for thoughts, some scrapbooking, mixed media art and sometimes I put my bujo pages there such as habit trackers. Last but not least the Lamy one is for the poetry that I’ve written from last year until now. 🌱 I hope this helps if you want some inspiration or motivation for starting your own journals. The A6 format is perfect for carrying around or just write without being too overwhelmed with the big space and how to fill it up.

Journal Hacking
I’m not sure if this will make sense to anyone else but I wanted to document something I’ve been trying lately with regards to planning/bujo/journaling type things. Even if only so I can go back and see what I did lol.
So I have been bullet journaling in some form on and off since 2014. So it’s been a minute. And while I like it on the whole, it’s just not been working out for me lately. I tried a Hobonichi weeks mega and while I really like some aspects it’s just not enough room for me. My handwriting is not that small.
I ran across a simplified GTD-like system called Ugmonk Analog and I liked the principles (even if I didn’t like the price tag) so I adapted it to my new journal.
Ugmonk’s Analog system has three cards - Today, Next, and Someday. I’m just using notecards I have for this. I put the Today card on my cover with washi tape so I can see it without opening my notebook and easily write things down (my pen is in the loop to the side there).
Tumblr media
The Next and the Someday cards - along with some others are in the inside. I made the pocket by taping one of the notecards horizontally and taping the two outside sides.
The long bit of text on the inside cover is the Heart Sutra. I like to write it on notebooks I’ll be using regularly so I pause and reflect on it more regularly.
Tumblr media
In addition to Next and Someday cards, I have a blank one for scratch paper and one with my ideal timelines for doing home and personal tasks. The personal side is lacking, I’m kind of in a state of transition on that so I’m unclear what I want to do regularly. The house stuff never happens all the way but I like knowing what I’d like to do when I’m adding tasks to my Today card.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think my favorite part of this system is the memory keeping part. It’s not super elegant or pretty but on the pack of each today card, I record any notable things about the day on the top (period, mood, fights, symptoms) with a hashtag, the weather, and then I fill the card with what I did that day. It’s been very helpful so far for jogging my memory throughout the week. I like that I can pull them out and see as many as I’d like throughout the week. I plan on digitizing them at the end of the year and keeping the last year as a hard copy.
I keep the card in this little green box. Might decorate it soon.
I don’t really feel like sharing my finished cards so hopefully this gives you an idea. I like that I can see what happened in a day and what I got done on one card.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So yeah, I’m really liking it so far. I still do long form journaling (Morning Pages type things) in the notebook itself. I actually turn it so the short side is on the top and it’s kind of like writing on an A4 sheet of paper. I do that so I don’t start auto rereading old journal entries when I’m flipping through for other stuff. I index and thread anything that isn’t journal entries like I would a normal bullet journal. Right now I have some random notes for subject I’m studying, some pen and paper games I’m playing, and writing notes.
I’m also going to add either an A6 monthly calendar or print my own calendar set up to add to the back pocket for scheduling things in advance. I know everyone uses Google Calendar but I never check mine much. So people can schedule things with me on my Google Cal but my source of truth will be the hard copy.
Some resources I took inspiration from in setting all this up:
- OG Bullet Journal - I’m surprised by how many people I’ve met who don’t know that bullet journaling isn’t just making your own pretty planner but an actual system (no shade to the art journaling folks, I’m just not one of them). When I say I use bullet journaling, this is what I’m using. Check for some of his more recent videos if you like it, he’s updated it.
- Ugmonk Analog - slightly expanded to-do list system on paper; the product seems nice but they’ve actually been very supportive of people making their own knockoff versions for personal use which is cool to see
- Everbook - I think if I had more to juggle, I’d upgrade to something like this system. This guy has so many neat ideas sprinkled throughout the channel. He also really supports people making their own version. Love a good open source ethos.
Anyways - hope this helps someone!

next year i'm going to try one of their a6 weekly planners instead, only time will tell if the structure will be helpful or if i'll go running back to the bujo format's versatility

hi! what do you use for your bujo?
Hi! I’m guessing you mean the notebook that I use, I have two; one of them is my actual bujo and another one for my personal journal (that’s the one I post here a lot) the bujo is hand made, I made it myself and I have a tutorial on my yt ^^ if you want to check it out. And the personal journal is a transparent 6ring A6 binder I bought at Walmart but the paper sheets and additions are from Amazon! In terms of materials I use literally everything I can get my hands on ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ Hope this was helpful, if you have more questions feel free to ask, have a lovely day! ✨
