オペラ座の怪人のリサイタル〜ドラマトゥルギー社会に於ける世界内存在のアブセンシングに関する微小民族誌

　芸術にはある種の神話が含まれているように思います。それは音楽にも当てはまるのではないかと思います。では、本作における神話とは何でしょうか？それは”終わりの始まり”なのです。

　ところで、アメリカという国の文化の本質とは何でしょうか？それは社会劇場なのです。エドガー・シャインによると、アメリカ社会で生きるアメリカ人は役割を演じています。そういった社会劇場をほのめかす言葉がアメリカ英語には散見されます。会合で「自分の役割を果たす」。「期待された役目（振舞い）ではない」、「筋書きを与える」、「同情心を見せる（Show）」、「話題(Show)をさらう」、「大谷翔平のSHO-TIME(Show Time)」、「年相応に振舞え(Act,*Actor=俳優)」、「状況(Scene)を変えたい」、「会議の準備をしたい(Set the scene)」、「お高くとまった(Upstaged)」、「人気をさらう(Steel the scene)」etc. では、私たち日本の文化の本質とは何でしょうか？土居健郎によると、それは甘えなのです。「甘んずる」とは本当は甘えられる状態ではないが、しかし甘えたつもりになることをさすのである。「すねる」とは素直に甘えられないからそうなるのであるが、しかしすねながら甘えているともいえるのである。「ふてくされる」「やけくそになる」というのはすねの結果起こる現象である。「たのむ」とは甘えさせてほしいということに他ならないのである。ひがむのは自分が不当な取り扱いを受けていると曲解することであるが、それは自分の甘えの当てが外れたことに起因している、のである。Etc.

　このように日本とアメリカでは文化的な差異があり、このことを念頭に置いたうえで、本作は理解されて然るべきです。裕福かつ音楽と身近な環境で育ったマイルスはクラシック等を日常的に触れていたのではないかと思います。そうした中で、オペラ座の怪人の如く役割＝ジャズメンを演じていたのは言うまでもありません。そして、西洋音楽を超えるべく徹底的に探究を深めた結果、マイルスはどれだけ白い仮面を被ったとしても、白くはなれないことを知り、本作を発表します。（それは本作のジャケットに抑圧的にエナクトされているのです。）それは、マイルスの最高傑作の誕生であると同時に、マイルスの”終わりの始まり”であったのではないでしょうか？その後、マイルスは文字通り”ジャズの帝王”となります。しかし、帝王として君臨すればするほど、彼のココロは病んでいき、それと共にジャズは暗黒時代を迎えることとなります。

　21世紀の現在、ジャズは新たな地平を切り開いていることは言うまでもありません。様々な才能溢れるジャズメンが活躍し、先進的な音楽を発表していることは周知の事実です。そうした中で、マイルスの音楽史における歴史的な位置づけは変わりつつあるかと思いますが、私はそれでも時折本作を自宅で静かに聴き続けたいと思います。マイルスに敬意を表して。
