InuYasha Volume 1

Citation:
Takahashi, Rumiko. "InuYasha Volume 1, second edition." Shogakan INC. Translated by Mari Morimoto. Edited by Julie Davis. VIZ LLC, San Fransisco, California 94107, 2003.
Summary:
InuYasha despite it's title actually follows the story of Kagome Higurashi. She's a 15 year old middle school girl from Tokyo who's house is an old shrine. She lives there with her little brother Sota, her mother, and her grandfather. Her grandfather is fond of telling her family the legends that surround the shrine and the Bone Eaters well which is on their property inclosed in a mini shrine. On her 15th birthday her cat Buyo goes into the mini shrine and Kagome has to go get him out. That is when she is grabbed by a demon and pulled into the well by the abomination. Said demon goes on about the "Jewel of the Four Souls" which Kagome's grandfather had mentioned earlier on in the book. Kagome is quite rightfully freaked out and in an attempt to push the demon away, she uses some sort of power against the demon and she disappears leaving only the arm that held onto Kagome. Kagome is now back in the well, but when she climbs out, she is no longer in Tokyo anymore. There are no shrines to bee seen at all, just forest. She then runs towards the "Sengoku God Tree" which was a tree that is over 500 years old, and when she was younger, she would use to find her way home. But when she gets there she finds a boy pined to the tree. Kagome is then captured by near by villagers, since she is in a forbidden place and dressed "funny" so she is suspected to be a spy of some sort. This is where she finds out threw inference that she has been transported to the warring states era (1482-1558 CE) (Davis). Before she has proper time to settle down in this village, the village is attacked by non-other than Mistress Centipede. She is instructed to run back to the Bone Eater's Well, in the forest of Inuyasha. She runs back there only to see that the boy pinned to the tree is now alive, and that he hates her. He is Inuyasha the other main character of the book. At the very begging, it is shown that he is pinned to the tree 50 years prior to when Kagome arrives in the time period by a priestess named Kikyo. Kikyo shoots Inuyasha with an arrow and seals him to the tree because he stole the Sacred Jewel (The Jewel of Four Souls). She then passes away from mortal wounds that had been inflicted upon her, but before then she instructs her younger sister Kaede to burn the Sacred Jewel along with her remains so it cannot fall into the hands of evil ever again. Now that Inuyasha is conscience he starts berating Kagome for not just finishing off the centipede saying things like "why don't you just finish her off like you did me Kikyo" while Kagome tries to explain in vain that she, is in fact, not Kikyo. The fight with the demon ensues and the demon bites Kagome in the side and it is then revealed that the Sacred Jewel had been inside her body. The demon swallows it and leaves Kagome with no choice but to release Inuyasha from the spell that Kikyo had put on him.
He kills the demon quickly and Kagome with the help of the old priestess from the village finds the Sacred Jewel and takes it out of the demons flesh so it does not revive its self. Now Inuyasha is angry and wants the jewel, so now everyone is in danger again. The old priestess though endows Inuyasha with some prayer beads and tells Kagome to say a subduing spell, she says "sit" and Inuyasha face-plants. Now everyone is safe, since Inuyasha is not a threat any longer. Now that Kagome has the scared jewel; however, now many demons and even humans will be hunting her down so they can have it for it grants great power. She also finds out that she is a reincarnation of Kikyo. They later encounter a crow demon that consumes the jewel and Kagome finds out she is very bad at archery, something that Kikyo was very skilled at. She does end up being the one to kill it, by attaching the crow's leg to an arrow, and due to the jewel's regenerative properties, the arrow is pulled to the crow and kills it. But it also shatters the jewel into a whole bunch of tiny tiny little pieces. The old priestess, Kaede, tells Kagome and Inuyasha that they will both need to work together to collect all the shards together and they fight about that. Which causes Kagome to go home.
Kagome goes toward the well thinking that it might send her back, but she looks in and sees the bones of Mistress Centipede, and is reluctant to jump in. Then she encounters a new demon who introduces herself as "Yura of the Hair" and before Kagome has much time to react, she falls back into the well. She is lucky transported home before Yura could kill her. She is now back home and is delighted to be back. She lover her Udon and hot baths! While she is eating with her family, Inuyasha bursts in telling her that she has to come back because of Yura. Then they have to fight the hair coming from the well, which only Kagome can see, so they have to team up so Inuyasha can not only save himself at the moment, but also Kagome's family. This is also when Kagome realizes that she HAS to deal with this or her family could be in danger. The book ends with them jumping in, and Yura waiting for them to get back.
Personal Response:
I read InuYasha when I was 11, so rereading it was kinda nice, but since I have had the book for so long, it was also hard to stay focused. InuYasha also has an anime adaptation which I have watched many times, so that probably added to my "I already know what's going to happen" part of my brain. The art is absolutely gorgeous, and Kagome is written pretty realistically as a 15 year old. It is interesting having read this now, and reflecting on how much I looked up to Kagome and frequently thought about how much older she was then I was when I was first reading it. When I was 11, I basically saw her as an adult, but now as a 20 year old, I see her as a child. But I still feel a lot of the same feelings about her as I did. In fact, I think I respect her a bit more now than I did then. She handles a lot of the situations she finds herself in remarkably well, but not unrealistically well either. She is very strong, to have went through all of those traumatizing experiences within such a short amount of time and not shed a tear or feel sorry for herself is remarkable. That being said, I feel like she takes on waaaaaay too much responsibility! It is not unrealistic for her to do so, I definitely would have at her age, but that does not mean it will be healthy for her to do so.

Kizu, Natsuki. "given." SuBLime. Shinshokan Co. Ltd. Translated Sheldon Drzka. Edited by Hope Donovan. Jan, 2023.
Summary:
The book follows 6 boys who are in a band, Akihiko Kaji and Haruki Nakayama being in college and the rest are in high school. They are all in relationships with each other and are all gay. It follows their struggles of graduation for all of them coming up, wanting to go pro with their band, and relationship troubles. The high school boy are also coping with the death of their band mate, and Mafuyu's boyfriend, Yuki. Shizusumi and Hiragi's relationship takes a dip due to Shizusumi thinking that Hiragi was in love with Yuki, and that that was why Hiragi wanted to finish Yuki's song. This makes Hiragi actually consider if he was or not. He then comes to the conclusion that he wasn't, but was he was like platonically in love with him. Hiragi later gets a revised version of Yuki's song, and then has a realization of what Yuki was going for. That the general feeling or vibe is the way Yuki feel when he looks at Mafuyu. That makes Hiragi realize just how he has to convince Shizusumi that he loves him.
Personal Response:
So to add some context, I picked this book up at Walmart, and this was the only volume they had, so I didn't really get any context for what had happened in the 6 previous volumes, but the relationships were still entertaining to watch. They are just as messy as adolescent relationships are, so that part was very accurate. What I didn't expect was how accurate the feelings of morning the high school boys go through is. These boys have been through some stuff and it shows. I had a friend I was very close to get killed in a car accident when I was 13, so I understand very well what that sort of morning can look like in this age demographic. For the characters, and for me, there is this sort of strange misty melancholy feeling surrounding the lost loved one. The longing to see them again, it is almost its own form of love. I too have found myself wondering if I was romantically in love with my best friend who passed away, but then when I think about it, I realized that I did love her, it was just platonic. She was like a sister to me, a member of the family. That, from my perspective, is what Hiragi is feeling toward Yuki. That, and just having a strong admiration of him. Of how awesome he was. I am not familiar with Yuki, so I only know what is discussed in the volume about him, but the way that he talks about him, he really did admire him. And I really resonate with that. I really admire my friend, she was going to be a Marine Biologist, and I often find myself thinking if she would still be working towards that goal today. We were very similar, and I had my life figured out in middle school, so perhaps she would. I often wonder what college she would have went to, where she'd be right now. How unfair it is, that such a wonderful person, who was set to change the world was just taken away like that. I also relate with Shizusumi feeling left out of the morning process. Like how his feelings have been ignored, or how no one seems to acknowledge that he too was close to Yuki. I had been friends with Lillith for 3 years, but when it came to her funeral, they all called upon people that I KNOW FOR A FACT were not as close to her as I was to speak about her. People that Lillith didn't even really like at that point in time before she passed. People that Lillith and the rest of our friend group (and two other people) would talk bad about. People that me and the other two people were almost laughing at how mad we were that they were picked to talk, because it showed just how little the organizers knew her. I know what it is like to feel like your grief is being down at. So I felt really bad for Shizusumi, because he felt like his friends were ignoring that he was friends with Yuki too.

Cawthon, Scott, et al. "Five Nights at Freddy's: The Twisted Ones The Graphic Novel." Scholastic Inc. 557 Broadway, New York, NY 10012. 2021.
Summary:
The book follows Charlie trying to figure out what happened all those years ago with her twin brother who disappeared at the Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria while she struggles in college. She moves in with her good friend Jessica and talks about how she is exited that her childhood friend John was coming back to town and was a little nervous that since they had nothing to talk about that he would end up bringing up an incident that happened at Freddy's last year, and she was just not ready for that. The date goes well, and on her way back she was stopped by Mr. Burke, a police officer that she knows. He wants her to identify a body, because he knows that she is the only one that can tell him if what he thinks happened, happened. It turns out that his hypothesis was correct, since she confirms that the man was definitely killed by a spring-lock suit. She goes on another date with John, but a lot of the time she is just consumed with thoughts of the body and what had happened at Freddy's. When she gets back, she asks Jessica to do "girl stuff" like go get some clothes for another date with John, so she could sort of lure her to Freddy's under false pretenses, since Charlie did not want to go alone.
The go into the mall where Freddy's was and reminisce about all the scary stuff that happened, and how now after the hurricane hit, the mall and everything was just so peaceful. Then they stumble upon "Dave" and confirm that he is "definitely dead" and leave. After studying with Arty for a little bit, she has to leave due to her just not being able to focus and having flash backs. In the car, she sees a bunch of vultures so she decides to investigate what they are swarming around and finds another body. With the same injuries, so she was killed by a spring-lock suit, but the thing is, this girl looks exactly like Charlie. She calls Mr. Burke and he is also creeped out by the dead woman's resemblance to Charlie. She is given the address of the girl, she finds nothing in her house but she discovers these weird graves in her backyard and freaks out. Then she remembers that she was supposed to meet John 2 hours ago. She rushes to the restaurant and meets up with him. They then decided to go back to Charlie's house that was hit by the hurricane, and then she tells John about the body she found. While exploring the house they come across graves just like those that had been at that girls house. She starts messing in one and finds the head of a Foxy animatronic. Charlie finds this strange as her dad never kept defective robots, so why did he burry this one instead of using it for parts? She has just about enough time to express this confusion and the gets jumped by this freaky Foxy animatronic. John panics and just pulls its head off, and Charlie finds the a chip that makes the world's most annoying noise. This chip causes all kinds of wacky allusions and causes the animatronics to come to life.
They start tracking where these animatronics are coming from and go to a predicted area. Charlie starts digging and finds another one. The animatronic comes to life and then they all get in Mr. Burkes' police car. They fall asleep and then they wind up missing the animatronic moving. They find another girl, but this time she survived the spring-lock suit. Charlie the next day decides to go back to her old house with one of the illusion chips and basically just waits to "be reunited with her twin Sammy" which basically means she was waiting to die. Her friends go to that house, but by the time they get there, she's gone. They then go to Mr. Burke's house to try and get the Freddy's animatronics that he just sort of stole and stored in his basement (hope he got the children's bodies out of them before hand) they get violent at the mention of William Afton's name, and then they have to barricade themselves for protection purposes. Once they are safe, they find that the animatronics left and the follow where they went. Eventually being led to the old Freddy's location. They find Charlie and they try to escape and come face to face with William Afton, who they also knew as the alias "Dave", but now he calls himself "Spring Trap" because he has become one with his fursona. He then reveals that he didn't kill her brother Sammy, he killed her. They eventual sort-of escape, but Charlie is drawn to something. The feeling of her twin, something like pulling at her. Then the big scary melted Freddy attacks her and like gets her all up in his spring locks. Then she fricking dies. Charlie. Is. Dead. They are all mortified, and John keeps looking on as the back up that Mr. Burke called for drags them out of the falling apart house. John, for the last few second sees another woman standing next to Charlie's corpse that looks remarkably like Charlie. It seems like days pass, and John and Jessica are talking in a coffee shop or restaurant and John is trying to help Jessica except Charlie's death. They are then joined by other characters and they talk. Then they look out the window and see a woman who looks like Charlie, and Jessica and this other girl run out to go and hug her, but John stays behind. His last words are "that's not Charlie."
Personal Response:
I have been a FNAF fan for a long time, since before the 3rd game came out. It was pretty hype to get to see more Spring Trap. Spring Trap is honestly one of, if not the best animatronic designs in the whole series when it comes to the ominous creep factor that the original games had. The first half of this book was like pulling teeth for me, it probably would have been helped if I had read the other books, but this one didn't have a number on it, so I didn't know where it was in the book series. I am also not extremely familiar with the book's lore, except when it comes to Charlie, and even then. I was sitting there going "who tf is this 'Dave' guy? I know y'all talking about Afton, stop playing" but then it made some since at the end when I thought about it. The art was definitely mixed in my opinion. There were some points where it was extremely cool, and other points where I know if I was drawing it, I would NOT have let some of those panels slide. Oddly enough the plot itself did not really have much to do with being an adolescent or young adult hood. Most of the characters where within that age range, but it didn't really effect it. That being said; however, the book does have adolescent vibes. That could be do to the source material and/or the age demographic the book is aimed at. There were some horror elements that definitely feel like a middle schooler would think is cool, which is not necessarily and insult. It is almost nostalgic in that sense.

The Rubicon
As announced and teased, here is the second (and for now, final installment of my John Wick fic. I say final for now because I still have ideas, and I love these two very much so there is a possibility I might write more later.
Regarding this work, like the first, it flowed and I think I wrote it in something like a week. Everything was so clear, and easy which is a rarity when you're an author. It makes it precious for me.
I was buyoed by how amazing the fourth movie was, and when I got out I had so many feels to expel that I finished the first fic and started the second one right away. So this is basically a retelling of the fourth movie, with Santino alive (it briefly retrace what happens in the third, too).
Please, enjoy it, oh few John/Santino lovers like me. We should come up with a name for the ship, too...
Oh, and that one got an exclusive ship (cause I think it's the only fic with it in the fandom): Marquis Vincent de Gramont/Santino D'Antonio, because what's sexier than one little meow meow? Two little meow meows being terrible to each other and the rest of the world. It very secondary, though, the main ship is John/Santino.
Without further ado... a snippet from chapter 2:
Eight years ago, when John wanted to marry Helen, he called Santino for help. The call came in the middle of the night, on Santino’s personal line. John had gone through Julius, the Continental’s Manager in Rome, the only precaution taken for plausible deniability. Hearing his voice had felt like breaking through the deep waters he was drowning in since their break up. Like electroshocks to his heart, a shot of heroin to the brain, a painful rebirth. John had saved him time and time again.  The bargain was clearly in Santino’s favor: An opportunity to get New York back by eliminating his father’s cousin, and a blood oath more binding that any other promise, against help to reunite all of John’s targets in the same place. Their exchange was brief that night, and the following night in New York, too. Professional .  Santino clung to that like a life line as the usual longing he associated with John came bubbling back. The hitman seemed unsettled by the tone of their talk, and Santino wanted to slap him: what did he expect, exactly, when he was asking Santino help to get out of The Arrangement to marry someone else . When he was about to give someone else everything Santino had ever wanted? So he kept it to business even if something was screaming in rage and anguish inside of him the whole time. The marker had been a wicked thing, an offering to try and appease the beast yowling inside of him. A piece of John for Santino to keep forever. A way to possess him, even just a little. - Why did John call him for help and not anyone else? Maybe because he’d known no one loved him enough but Santino to risk so much on his behalf. Which was probably the exact same train of thought that led him to the Villa in Praiano when he needed help to get out again. - Cassian took his job seriously. After a year in Santino’s service, he’d learned to see through the mask and the callous attitude, beyond the sneers and the recklessness, probably helped by the fact he felt it was his mission to keep Gianna’s love for Santino alive. It meant Santino trusted him, even if they bickered half the time they were forced together by their respective jobs. It helped pass the time, in the mob boss opinion. Leonora had learned to ignore them. It also meant that when John appeared on the threshold of the Villa's grounds, Cassian was the first to welcome him. With a shotgun. Santino laughed. “Felt good?” he asked, leaning against the doorway as Cassian reloaded.  “Very. Can I do it again?” Leonora snorted discreetly and Santino eyed John, who was struggling to get back to his feet. His armored suit had done its job and protected him, but it hadn’t lessened the pain of the impact. “Be my guest.”

Today’s ✨magical term of the day✨ tells us two things. Firstly, through the power of love and probably nostalgia, Gramps sounds alive. Secondly, we all need to have a moment of silence in memory of his expectations regarding passing on the Higurashi Shrine.
[..............................]
Sota dipped to live in that grand apartment complex with his wife and daughters while Kagome chose to live traditionally with her husband and daughter... just far more literally “traditional” than her grandfather could ever have imagined.

Closing the Distance
Surprise another Inu/Kag one shot because I have zero will-power lmao. I just can't stop myself they are so fun!
Based on a prompt you can find here
You can also read this one-shot on AO3 here
For @fawn-eyed-girl, the main inspo behind my return to writing.
Closing the Distance -
The city is quiet, the click of her small law firm office door almost seems out of place as she closed for the day. The normally busy streets of Akasaka had lulled to a quiet hum around her. Kagome sighed, glancing down at her phone. The time glared up at her, nearly 12:00AM. She made a noise in discontent, “Poor Buyo probably thinks I abandoned him this time.”
Her heeled suede boots clicked on the pavement hurriedly toward Akasaka station hoping to catch the last train to Meguro. She sighed in relief, stepping onto the train right before departure. Kagome let her body sway with the motions of the train, opting to close her eyes as she stood, fingers gripping one of the over-head handles. She felt grateful her ride was a short one, only taking her 15 minutes total trip time.
When the train pinged its arrival to Meguro, Kagome smiled stepping onto the concrete platform. She waved to the train staff, a younger man who usually worked the evening train route in Meguro.
“See you tomorrow, Hojo-kun.”
He smiled in return, waving cheerfully, “Have a good night, Higurashi-san!”
Kagome tightened her scarf, once again glancing at her phone as she walked the distance from Meguro station to her apartment building. She scrolled through her notifications, pursing her lips as she read them aloud. “Email, email, another email,” she rolled her eyes but kept scrolling,” text from Sango, (2) missed calls from Kaa-chan, two new Instagram likes.” She let out a loud whine; not a single message from the one person she had been hoping to hear from.
Kagome opened a message thread, the name ‘Inu’ glowing at the top with a red heart emoji. She typed a message as she continued her path, just like she had done the last three nights. She knew he was outside the reach of cell service, somewhere in the mountains of Washington, USA, attending a business conference with his father.
<New Message to: Inu ♥
I miss your voice. ☹ I hope your trip is going well; call me when you can! ♥>
She clicked send, tucking her phone into her jacket pocket. She wasn’t trying to be clingy, truly, but her and Inuyasha had spoken nearly every day for almost a year and a half. Kagome smiled fondly at how their relationship had started, “Hah!” She snorted out a laugh, ‘if you could even call it a ‘relationship’ at first.’
They’d met in an online anime forum, both looking for recommendations to fill their generally boring day to day routines. She’d recommended Bleach, one of her all-time favorites, and Inuyasha had roasted her alive in the comments about the length of the series. She’d retaliated hard though, noting that in his bio he had One-Piece listed as top favorite, and that if he were going to be a hypocrite to at least try to hide it. They bickered incessantly in the forum comments, and eventually moved to private chat, the conversation taking on a more playful tone as time went on.
After that they had pinballed anime suggestions back and forth, building a repertoire of anime they both could enjoy, either together via Zoom or separately. It wasn’t long until their conversations turned more heated, and affectionate. She’d learned what he liked and didn’t like (curry being at the top of that list alongside Bleach) and that unfortunately for their budding relationship they lived on opposite sides of the world. He worked for his fathers growing tech corporation as head of marketing, and Kagome worked full time at a law-firm as a child advocate lawyer.
She had also learned that like her, Inuyasha had grown up in Japan, in a prefecture close to where she had grown up. He’d only moved to New York with his father after high school to get a head start working for the family company, and now he was in Washington laying groundwork for the company’s’ north-western sect. She blushed remembering a previous conversation they’d had six months into talking, and four months into dating.
“Do you think you’ll ever come back to Japan?”
It wasn’t meant to be a loaded question, they hadn’t known each other for long, but Kagome couldn’t stop herself from chewing on her lip nervously. She drew in her knees, letting them tuck underneath her on the couch.
She could hear him chuckle into the phone, “Do you want me to come back to Japan?” Kagome felt her cheeks tinging pink.
“I didn’t mean it like that!” She defended, “I mean of course I wouldn’t mind seeing you but…” She continued to babble on when he interrupted her.
“I would come back for you.” The words were quick and effective, going straight to the butterflies in her stomach, her heart rate increasing.
“You would?”
“In a heartbeat.” He offered the words to her like they were second nature.
“Inuyasha?” She smiled into the phone, waiting for his response.
“Hm?” he hummed a response, followed by a yawn.
“I really, really like you.” She could picture him smiling now, “I really like you too.”
They both had busy lives, but the part she loved most was that even in the mundanity of their daily lives they still managed to find time for each other. Except for the last three days.
“Keep it together, Kagome. It’s only been three days. He has no cell service,” she reminded herself fishing in her pocket for keys as she approached her unit.
Kagome pulled out the apartment keys, flipping through them easily to the correct one. The door opened with a click, and she shuffled into the genkan. She dropped her small purse onto the entryway table calling out into the dark as she always did, an inside joke to herself.
“Honey, I’m home!” She flipped on the entrance light and slid out of her jacket, chuckling, “Oh yeah that’s right...I live alone.” Well, not exactly, she did have Buyo after all. The fat cat normally came running as soon as she called out her inside joke, making it even more hilarious to Kagome. Buyo her fat sort-of roommate cat.
Her body stilled when this time instead of the mewling of her cat, a male voice called back out to her from the kitchen, “Oh good, you made it home,” the voice purred.
” I picked up some pizza,” the entry way to the kitchen was dimly lit, but Kagome didn’t need the lights on to know who was standing in her doorway holding a pizza box. A tall figure with silver hair swept into a bun, golden eyes gleaming with amusement and an undeniably familiar voice. One that she’d been hearing the last year and a half.
Kagome kicked off her boots in the genkan, launching herself across the apartment. Her arms locked around the figure’s waist, “Inuyasha!” She cried out his name, tears mercilessly streaming down her face as she hugged him tighter.
Inuyasha dropped the box of pizza onto the closest counter, tucking the crying woman into his arms more securely. He dropped his lips to her hair, placing a tender kiss to the top of her head. He was committing her scent to memory, lavender and soft vanilla. He inhaled deeply, letting out a content sigh.
“What are you doing here? How did you find my apartment? What about Washington?” Kagome managed to croak out the questions through tears. His fingers moved to tilt her face up to him, wiping the tears from her cheeks. He smiled a lopsided fanged grin, “I told you I’d come back to Japan for you.”
He said it with ease, like it was the most logical thing in the world. Kagome couldn’t stop herself as she pressed onto the tips of her toes to reach him. Her lips found his, and she pulled him closer, afraid he may vanish if she let go. He didn’t resist but instead melted into her touch, cradling the small of her back with his hands. After a few moments, Kagome released him with a pant, her chest heaving as he braced them against the closest kitchen wall.
Inuyasha dropped kisses onto her exposed shoulder, and Kagome stopped him with small hands fisted into his shirt. She had to tell him.
“I love you.” She blurted out the three words, cheeks flushed from their heated encounter and her confession. They had danced around the subject, but she’d known for a while. Kagome loved Inuyasha. She chewed on her lip, pulling it between her teeth but was stopped when he lowered to pull at her lip himself, sucking it against his mouth, and kissing her again sweetly.
“I love you too,” he said softly, cupping her face with his hand, “even if you like bleach.” Kagome let out a loud laugh at that, shoving his shoulder but then pulling him back for another kiss, just one of many more that would come now that she was truly home.

Inuyasha & Yashahime Translation: Shounen Sunday Super December Edition
Takahashi Rumiko-Sensei’s Question Corner Rumic Question
From the many questions we received from readers via the web, we chose 20 questions for Takahashi Rumiko-sensei to answer!!
Q: The names of the characters in “Inuyasha” are not only original but fit them so well that you can’t think of any other name; peerlessly cool good taste! How did you come up with their names?
Once you name a character, you cannot change it so that’s what I worry about the most. Even if I give them a temporary name for when they make their debut, if it doesn’t stick I will think all the way up to the last minute. While all I can say is “That was the name that fit that character” … a name that is easy to call, draw, and remember. A name that fits the story. For example, in flower language, Kikyou means “Unchanging love” or how Kagome is like a children’s song and cute. I feel like Sesshomaru originally had a different name, but I forgot. On the other hand, I remember the outfit design solidified when I decided on the name.
Q: There are a lot of demons that appear in “Inuyasha” but who was the hardest and easiest to draw?
Magatsuhi was the hardest to draw. He didn’t have a solid form afterall. Also I drew them as I pleased so I don’t remember really struggling.
Q: Is Buyo a male or a female?
When serialization first started, I thought they were a male at first but as I continued to draw, I started to think “This cat might be an old lady”. They might be a female. Well Buyo is Buyo so I think it’s fine if everyone decides for themselves whether Buyo is a male or a female.
Q: I want to know how Sesshomaru and Jaken first met. Was Jaken an old man from the time they first met?
I remember their meeting being drawn in an original episode in the “Inuyasha” anime. I can’t remember which episode number though. According to that, Jaken was a demon leader who lost to Sesshomaru in battle and thus decided to follow him, I think that was the scenario. And I think he was an old man as well.
Q: If Kikyo had lived on, would she and Kagome have been good friends
As long as Inuyasha is around, I think it would be really hard for them to be friends like nothing happened… I imagine they would have this strange tension between them as they accepted the other while feeling uneasy. I don’t think Inuyasha could mentally handle that either.
Q: I like small creatures that appear in the Rumic World like Kilala and Shippou so could you tell us what you focus on when drawing these small creatures?
I make sure that they’re fundamentally cute in appearance. Also because of how small they are, they ride on a main character’s shoulder. Anyhow, I make sure they can share the spotlight.
Q: I think Tessaiga is a good sword that is considerate of the main character such as when it gives Inuyasha a warning so as not to hurt him but Inuyasha treats it so recklessly in comparison. (Though he acts like that fully trusting Tessaiga) If Tessaiga could talk, what do you think it would say to Inuyasha? I have loved “Inuyasha” since I was in elementary school and I’ve viewed the manga and anime but looking back, I feel Tessaiga was gallant in responding to Inuyasha’s recklessness… I was curious about this so I decided to ask.
Tessaiga is a sword forged from his (Inuyasha) father’s fang so while being Inuyasha’s “friend”, I would guess that it might be an existence of higher status. If it could talk, it would probably say “Hurry up and catch up to me”
Q: Thank for the Anime Support Project. “What a time to be alive to be able to send a question to Takahashi Rumiko-sensei” Is what I think (laughs). I’ve loved “Inuyasha” since I was a child and it’s my life’s “bible”. I admired Kagome and lived thinking that I want to be a kind, strong woman like her. Now here is my question: There was a scene where Sesshomaru said “I don’t eat human food” but for a demon that doesn’t attack humans, what does he eat to sustain his life? I mean Inuyasha and Shippou ate with Kagome and the others so do demons and humans eat the same thing? Was Sesshomaru by chance bluffing with that line? Lastly, I look forward to the serialization of “Hanyou no Yashahime” and “MAO”! Thank you for all the wonderful works.
Thank you for your support. Sesshomaru’s meals, I can’t imagine it after all. There’s a possibility he absorbs mists of “essence” or “energy” of the demons he’s defeated. Also fruits are another possibility.
Q: Within “Inuyasha”, is there a story that was most fun for you to draw? Also I would love for sensei to tell us your best (favorite) episode!
I have a lot of favorite episodes so it’s hard to decide. Black haired Inuyasha on the Night of the New Moon was refreshing and fun, and the stories of Inuyasha going to the Modern Era and loosening up as he took a break from fighting had me in many laughing fits. Also drawing the story for the Band of Seven made me excited. And, while fun may not be the right word, I put a lot of effort into Kagura’s death and Kikyou’s last moments with the idea that I wanted to give them a proper send off. The process of Kagome and Inuyasha and Miroku and Sango’s relationship gradually changing was also fun. Ultimately if I had to pick one, it’s probably the final episode. I finished drawing it feeling “I finally made it” and it was satisfying.
Q: I love the Band of Seven in “Inuyasha”! Did Bankotsu, who is the strongest member of the Band of Seven, scout the others? Bankotsu and Jakotsu seem close so are they the first members? I’ve always wondered this. I look forward to appealing enemies appearing in Yashahime.
I think all the other members of the Band of Seven most likely had enough strength to make it on their own. For all those people to come together would require a very strong leader at its core which is basically what Bankotsu was. Also, being together made jobs easier or they felt there may have been a merit. I feel like Bankotsu and Jakotsu being the founding members does indeed fit really nicely.
Q: I really like Monk Miroku and Sango in “Inuyasha” and I continue to support them even now. My question is in the end, how many children did these two, who said “Would you be willing to bear 10, 20 children?” when they purposed, have? If you have back stories and such for the children, I would love to hear them.
I only remember the twins and the newborn baby boy that appeared in the last chapter of “Inuyasha” making an appearance in Yashahime. In my mind, I didn’t think of anything beyond that but they are still a young married couple so I think there’s unlimited possibilities. I am happy that you like these two even now. Thank you very much.
Q: I have a question regarding the different use for “Scent” and “Odor”. The expressions for when Sesshomaru smelled something, for Rin it was constantly “scent” and for everything else it was “odor”. When they first met too, the expression was “A human’s scent”.  Just as Inuyasha called Kagome’s smell a “scent”, is it because it is a “smell” that they like?
I had an image of Inuyasha and Sesshomaru differentiating between friend or foe with “smell”. Of course “scent” is friend while “odor” is enemy. In addition, keeping in mind of the image that comes to readers minds when they see these words, I fundamentally had “scent” used for female characters. I wanted readers to get a sense of purity and cuteness from it.
Q: If there’s an episode or scene in “Inuyasha” that ended up turning out differently than what was originally thought up prior to serialization, could you please tell us?
First, I only started the story with the idea of half-demon Inuyasha, getting back stabbed by Kikyou and getting sealed away, and having a sword that was his father’s memento. Everything else, I created while thinking on the week of. Thus, Naraku came after, as well as I thought of Shippou, Miroku, and Sango when they debuted. I had thought of Sesshomaru possibly dying after protecting a human but it seemed like such a waste and I became unable to kill him. The direction of the story was decided when the antagonist, Naraku, was born. I’m an adlib (improv) type person so I won’t be surprised by what I draw if I decide things too far ahead. It’s fun to imagine every week “What will they do, what will happen”.
Q: “Inuyasha” is my bible on life! When talk of Yashahime happened, what was your first thought?
In my mind “Inuyasha” was complete so when they spoke to me about this, I thought “You’re going to do this?”. However Sumizawa-san, who handled the scenario for the “Inuyasha” anime, is a person who, in addition to being adept and talented, does not make mistakes so I felt that I could leave it to him.
Q: In the final chapter of the original work, Sesshomaru was gifting Rin a kimono but how did he go about obtaining it? I’m really curious as to if Sesshomaru delivered something Jaken prepared or if he went and bought it himself?
I thought about this over and over after I received this question. I think after all, he would order Jaken to go buy it and to continue buying until he bought a kimono that fit his image. On top of that, he probably doesn’t tell him (Jaken) a precise image to begin with.
Q: In “Hanyou no Yashahime” we saw Grandma Kaede. Seeing her surprised me… she hasn’t changed from the time of “Inuyasha”! Is Grandma Kaede by chance a demon?
She’s a human. However she still has the role of advising the young folks and having them listen to stories from the past so maybe she doesn’t age because it’s something worth doing.
Q: In “Hanyou no Yashahime”, Inuyasha and Kagome’s child, Moroha, appears. Inuyasha is a half demon, Kagome is a human, and Moroha is cross between a human and a half-demon. Do the three of them age differently in the Feudal Era?
In the span of the story, they seem to age the same. I’m sure the results will gradually begin to show after a few decades.
Q: In “Hanyou no Yashahime” Moroha wears a red ribbon; is this ribbon something with Inuyasha’s ears in mind? Also why is it that Inuyasha, who is a half-demon, has dog ears but Towa and Setsuna, who are also half-demons, do not? I can under Moroha since she’s a quarter (demon)… is there a basis for the dog ears? Please tell us!
Just as you guessed, Moroha’s ribbon was a projection of Inuyasha’s image. In regards to the dogs ears for Towa and Setsuna, Sesshomaru takes a human form and reversely, Inuyasha was something like half beast. The half demons that appear in Inuyasha have all sorts of appearances so understand that it depends on the individual.
Q: Ever since I watched the anime, “Inuyasha”, when I was 5 years old, it has been my absolute favorite work. When I was young, whenever I looked at the sacred tree at the shrine, I always imagined “Was Inuyasha sealed to this tree?...” It’s been 12 years since the original work was concluded. 10 years since the anime “Final Act”. I’m so excited for “Hanyou no Yashahime” beginning this fall! What was the most important thing when you designed the half-demon princess, Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha?
Scenario writer Sumizawa-san asked of me the following images: Towa as a “White Sesshomaru” and Setsuna as a “Black Sesshomaru”. While they’re twins, they grew up in two completely different eras so I designed them as two separate individuals. In addition, while Towa wears a boy’s uniform, I thought it would be good if she had a feminine streak to her. Moroha strongly resembles Inuyasha and Kagome. She’s a cheerful character so I didn’t have any second thoughts when I drew her into what she is now.
Q: Is there anything in “Hanyou no Yashahime” that you would like readers to pay attention to?
Sunrise’s beautiful pictures and animations as well as the story is also entertaining. The previous generation will periodically make an appearance and I think Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha are each charming. I think it’s a work that both first time people and people who watched “Inuyasha” can enjoy. Also Wada Kaoru-san continues from “Inuyasha” as being in charge of music. I’m excited for this as well.
We received a comment, autograph, and illustration for all the readers from Takahashi Rumiko-sensei!

So. Some thoughts of Yashahime ep 2 under the cut. Includes spoilers so beware!
So, Towa’s the kind of icon that dresses as she sees fit, is sick of feminine and masculine rulesets and just wants to do as she pleases. I like her : D She’s the kind of girl who gets into fights too often and thus has to change schools constantly.
Moroha is a bounty hunter who’s just like her father Inuyasha LOL. God damn Moroha. She’s out there to hunt down the Yookai that is attacking the nearby village often, and so are the Yookai Slayers! Neither Hisui or Kohaku recognize Moroha which is a bit, uh, what happened? Koharu DOES recognize Moroha’s arrow attack as having arrows of sealing, but he kinda questions who Moroha is, not really recognize her. HOPEFULLY, since Moroha and Setsuna are now in the present, the Higurashi family will see Kagome traits in Moroha and we’ll hear something about what happened? What does Moroha even remember of them...
Setsuna, oh my gosh she’s just like Sesshoomaru. Very calm, very little emotions, and skilled. She seems very acquainted with Hisui, like Hisui was constantly wanting to help Setsuna out. As Hisui is most likely more experienced, I’d say it’s expected! But the two seem like such a good pair, oooh boi! Give us his age pleaaasee I want to know. He doesn’t look older than 16 to me, which makes me wonder how the Tree of Ages has flung the girls through time. IS IT same amount of time as happened with Kagome’s trip, or is there a longer time gap? We know too little. All we know is that it’s been 10 years since Towa was flung to present time (even ep 1 spoke of the flashbacks events happening over a decade ago, not two decades...) and met Sota... Sota-papa AAAAAHHHH Towa’s so precious. And Sota immediately knowing Towa’s traveled from Feudal Japan somehow is just so, precious? Also, I love Mei, please protect Mei.
Kaede is alive, god damn, Higurashi Grandpa is alive, GOD DAMN, and Higurashi mom has little but of grey hair, GOD DAMN!  BUYO IS ALIVE HOW HOW HOW?!?!?
ALSO THE ROOT DEMON SPOKE AS THE TWO RAINBOW PEARLS THAT BELONGED TO MOROHA AND SETSUNA GATHERED INSIDE THE CENTIPEDE YOOKAI WHAAAAAT!?! He’s possibly the main bad guy. Ohboi.
Episode 3 will give us more info on Setsuna not remembering Towa, Moroha seemingly knowing why (Butterfly of Dreams stole Setsuna’s dreams, so she cannot sleep and also lost her memories alongside it?) and Towa crying because her twin sister doesn’t remember her? Towa nooo D: Also Moroha’s hair is down in the preview, I repeat it’s down! : D
So. Those are my thoughts. Very intriquing episode and I am mad we are left with a cliffhanger lol. Typical Inuyasha styled story-telling. Can we flashforward to next saturday?

How the fuck is Lady Kaede and Grandpa and Buyo still alive?!?!
Also what happened in the past with the Main Cast that caused the girls, Hisui, and Kohaku to not know each other? I mean Moroha is the twins’ cousin, but they don’t know each other. Something must’ve happened to the main cast prior to this current era. 🤔
So many questions that I hope will be answered in future episodes 🤞

Soul Mates
Smut ahead (but also plot ahead). Also on AO3
------------------------------------------
I understand how he feels about her, but it hurts so much to watch Inuyasha keep running after Kikyo. She’s dead, but I’m here, alive!
“Kagome, I can’t tell you how sorry I am to put you through this, and I hate that I have to ask you to stay with me to find the jewel shards because I know it hurts you. I want to be with you, but I owe my life to Kikyo. She died because of me. She died for me. I know that she is no longer of this world and she is not the woman I loved, but she is what’s left. I owe her everything and if her wish is to drag me to Hell with her, so be it. I can’t let her go; I belong to her.”
“I understand, Inuyasha.” Does he really think he deserves to die?
How can Kagome understand? She has never caused the pain I have.
“I need some space, Inuyasha. I’m going to go to my time for a while. Please wait and let me come back when I’m ready, don’t come get me.”
Inuyasha nodded. The least he could do was be patient, as Kagome so often was with him.
As Inuyasha watched Kagome leave, Sango, Miroku, and Shippo appeared behind him from out of the bushes where they had been spying, as usual.
“Well, spit it out! You think I’m a jerk for doing this to Kagome, you think I made the wrong choice. And you blame me for Kagome leaving us and holding up our quest, right!?”
“Ye-,” but Miroku clasped his hand over Shippo’s mouth before he could finish.
Sango sighed deeply. “I feel sorry for Kagome, but I don’t know how it feels to be in your shoes. I never knew you chose Kikyo because of guilt.”
“Indeed,” said Miroku. “I thought she was an old flame you wouldn’t move on from. I didn’t realize you felt you had no choice.”
Inuyasha lowered his gaze, praying his friends wouldn’t notice he felt like crying.
“Come on, Shippo, we should see if Auntie Kaede needs help with anything,” Sango ushered Shippo away, hoping Inuyasha would feel safe enough to confide in Miroku if they were alone.
“Inuyasha,” started Miroku. “It is my understanding that Kikyo is not the Kikyo you knew. This current Kikyo is full of darkness and hatred for you. Her feelings of betrayal seem to be a key component to her very existence. By choosing her, you are guaranteed to suffer.”
“You don’t understand. I’m not choosing her, I owe her. She was willing to take a chance on me when nobody else would. She was ready to sacrifice everything for me and I let her down. It cost her her life. She has every reason to hate me. Bitter or not, I will always love her.”
“The same way you love Kagome?”
********
It was only once Kagome was back in her time that she realized how dirty their last adventure had made her. Her uniform was streaked with mud.
Funny, all the things I can forget in the Feudal Era. Here, I have the luxury of worrying about mud stains.
She changed into pants and a clean, cozy sweater before curling into her bed.
It’s getting harder to go back, but I do each time. What will I do when we find Naraku and all the jewel shards? Will Inuyasha offer himself to Kikyo and never see me again?
********
500 years apart, Inuyasha and Kagome spent equally fretful nights, thinking of, though never admitting to themselves, how much they longed to be in each others’ arms.
How can I keep expecting Kagome to come back to me?
In the early morning Inuyasha gave up on sleep. Confused, and lonely, he went to see Auntie Kaede, knowing she was likely the only other person in the village to be up so early. Without acknowledging it, he wished he had his mother for guidance, and was driven to see Auntie Kaede because she was the closest he had.
“Come in, Inuyasha. Please join me in some tea.”
He sat and gratefully accepted an empty cup. Perhaps hot tea could ease the knot in his stomach.
“So, Shippo tells me Kagome has gone home to rest. Or should I say to take a rest from you?”
Inuyasha’s cheeks reddened. He was too ashamed to be angry at the accusal.
“Shippo also tells me Kagome left because she feels second place to Kikyo. Is that the case, Inuyasha?”
“She’s not second place!” he shouted. Remembering his surroundings, he continued more calmly, “You don’t understand, Auntie Kaede, I owe Kikyo everything.”
“Everything, you say?”
“Well, yeah. After my mother died, I had nothing and nobody. Kikyo gave me hope. She took a chance on me and I let her down.”
“Ow!” Kaede tried to fill Inuyasha’s cup with tea, but the kettle was too heavy. She started to rub her spasming hand.
“Auntie Kaede, are you okay? Here, let me do that.” Inuyasha poured the tea and started to tend the fire.
“What did you call me just now, Inuyasha?”
“Huh? What do you mean? Auntie Kaede?”
“Do you remember what you called me the first year after Kagome freed you from your tree?”
Blushing harder this time, Inuyasha choked out “Yes. I’m sorry I was so unkind then.”
“Before you met Kagome, how many apologies had you given?”
“Not many.”
“Yet you say you owe everything to Kikyo?”
What? As Kaede spoke, it became so clear to Inuyasha how much Kagome helped him grow. Why did I never think about the chances Kagome took on me?
“The way I see it, Inuyasha, Kikyo helped you learn to love and to find value in qualities other than power and brute strength. I cannot know what would have happened without Naraku’s evil interference, but in this life I believe it was Kagome who taught you to laugh, who helped you make friends, and who taught you manners,” she smiled. “When she pulled you down from your tree you were bitter and angry. You fought to prove your strength, to show that you could be as ruthless as any full demon, and sometimes I think you fought just for sport. But Kagome helped you become a noble warrior, fighting for his friends, and for the greater good. I believe Kikyo was your soulmate, Inuyasha, as I believe you do.”
He nodded.
“A soul that you seem to forget now belongs to Kagome. The version of Kikyo that walks among us it not the one you know. It is the hollow remains of a woman who is prevented from being laid to rest. Put her to rest, Inuyasha. If you owe her anything, you owe it to her soul, not her resurrected body. Her soul has the chance to find peace in Kagome, and right now you are causing it unrest by making her feel inferior to a dead woman.”
“Gee, I never thought of it like that.”
“Go to her, Inuyasha. Tell her how you feel about her in your heart. She deserves to be happy.”
Inuyasha and jumped up to the door. He had wasted so much time already, he didn’t want Kagome to suffer a second longer for him.
“And Inuyasha.”
“Yeah, what is it?”
“So do you,” Kaede smiled at him.
He nodded appreciatively. He didn’t know what he deserved, but Kaede was right, Kagome should be happy. And if he made her happy, he would give himself to her fully. He had permission to let Kikyo go from the one other person left who loved her. He was free.
********
Oh, Buyo, I’m glad you’re here to keep me company. I can’t keep letting my situation get to me like this. I have a job to do. I need to find the jewel shards before Naraku uses them to do unspeakable evil. If Inuyasha is willing to die, I can’t stop him, I just have to accept that I am fated to never be with him.
Inuyasha sprinted through the forest, and into the modern age, finding Kagome sitting alone in her kitchen, petting Buyo. He burst through the door, breathless.
“Look, Inuyasha,” Kagome’s voice was heated. “I know finding Naraku is important, but I need this time for myself.”
“No, it’s not that; please listen. Auntie Kaede made me realize I was thinking about everything all wrong. This Kikyo now is not the one I loved, no matter how much she looks like her. What I loved about her was how she helped anybody, no matter their circumstances. How strong, and kind, and earnest she was. But now I love those things in you. She taught me to hope for a better future, and you brought me that future even though I’d already stopped believing I deserved it. I don’t believe it was an accident you fell through that well into my time. The jewel could have lived in your body forever undisturbed by demons right here in your time. But something pulled you back - something stronger than a stupid centipede demon sensing the jewel. I believe you came back to find me. We are soulmates, Kagome. If I owe my life to anybody, I see now that I owe it to you. I couldn’t be who I am without you. I love you, Kagome. Please be with me.”
“Oh, Inuyasha!”
They kissed deeply, completely uninhibited for the first time. Inuyasha looked from Kagome toward the well.
“I don’t want to go back just yet. Mom took Grampa to the ocean for a few days, and Sota is on a school trip until they get back. Let’s enjoy this moment in privacy.
Inuyasha smiled a peaceful smile she’d never seen before, and she reached out to stroke his cheek.
“Your hair is all matted from that battle, Inuyasha. Why don’t you take a bath and wash it?”
“I bathed in the river earlier, this is as clean as I could get it.”
“I’ll wash it for you. I’m sure we can get it cleaner than that.”
Inuyasha looked at her clearly taken aback.
“I’ll add some bubble bath. It will make a thick foam and you’ll be completely covered. I won’t see a thing.”
“Well, alright, I guess.”
Inuyasha waited in Kagome’s room for his bath. No matter how many times he visited her, it always took him by surprise how comfortable he felt in her room with its strange devices and overwhelming smell of her. He let himself be completely enveloped by her scent.
“Your bath is ready! I’ll get you a towel while you undress.”
Inuyasha walked into the familiar bathroom, taking in the new smells he would eventually recognize as Kagome’s toiletries.
Wow, this foam really can cover me. Did someone create bubble bath just so women could wash men’s hair with modesty? Inuyasha thought as he lowered himself into the warm water. This world has so many strange inventions.
Kagome hung a fresh towel and put a bath pillow under Inuyasha’s neck.
“There, isn’t that more comfortable?” She smiled and rolled back her sleeves, lathering shampoo between her hands.
She wasn’t ready to admit it, but she felt a little thrill sitting by the tub. True, she couldn’t see a thing through the bubbles, but she knew that as long as she sat there, Inuyasha would have to expose himself if he tried get past her. He would have to ask her to look away. She enjoyed the little power this gave her as she massaged shampoo into his scalp and hair.
“Mmmm…..”
“Doesn’t that feel good?”
“Mhmmmm…”
“Oh, the water is getting cold. Let me fix that for you.”
“I don’t mind, it’s warmer than the river.”
“It’s no trouble. And I need to rinse your hair anyway.”
She let the water start to drain and held the faucet head over Inuyasha, washing away all the dirt. Then she topped up the tub with hot water.
“I didn’t know it was so easy to make hot baths in your world,” he said. “You must miss that.”
“It is nice. We have hot water because throughout the whole country there are big tubes underground that go to all the houses. And for each house there is a machine that uses electricity to heat the water when you turn the hot tap on.” She pointed, “And it runs through the machine unchanged if you want cold.” She pointed to the other tap. Inuyasha’s vague expression told her he couldn’t fathom this. She wondered if she still had an elementary school text book that could help her explain electricity. She imagined building a potato clock in the kitchen with Inuyasha. She was sure he would start looking for demons when the lightbulb lit up and the thought made her smile.
“My world has lots of conveniences, but I don’t miss most of them. I like living with you. Life in Feudal Japan is hard, but it’s uncomplicated. Despite the wars, in some ways it seems very peaceful. But you’re right, I do miss the hot baths. I was thinking of taking one myself before you came over.”
“You could join me.”
He wished he could unspeak his words the instant he said them. He liked her company and he meant it innocently. But how can an invitation to a bath be meant innocently?
“I, uh, I - I didn’t mean it like that - I-“
“Okay,” Kagome surprised herself with how easily she accepted. She saw how much he had changed since the early days of theirs travels together - and even just since yesterday - and she trusted him in a way she couldn’t before; in a way he probably hadn’t trusted himself before.
“But just a bath.”
He nodded and turned to the wall so she could undress in private.
“Okay, you can look.” She said once she was in the bathtub, facing him. She started to stretch out her legs.
“Hey, watchit, quit poking me.”
“Sorry, my feet have been so sore and numb recently. I need new shoes.”
“Here, I can help with that.”
He picked up Kagome’s foot and rolled his knuckles into her soles, then rubbed each toe and massaged her ankle, then the other foot.
Where did he learn this?
As if reading her thoughts Inuyasha said “I asked Auntie Kaede how to help sore feet. I see how much yours bother you sometimes.”
This is the most thoughtful he’s ever been. And so suddenly.
After they were thoroughly relaxed Kagome said, “the water’s getting cold again. That’s our sign it’s time to get out. I’ll go first. No peaking,” she teased him, as she let the bathtub start to drain.
Inuyasha turned away and averted his gaze, for Kagome to get up and put on the bathrobe hanging over the door.
“Okay, you can get out. I won’t look!” She could have another moment of excitement wearing clothes while he was naked.
“What should we do now?” asked Inuyasha, wrapped in a big towel.
“I didn’t sleep very well last night. I could use a nap, how about you?”
“I keep telling you I’m not like you humans. I don’t need naps.”
“You can watch me sleep then.” I’m sure he’s exhausted, he just won’t admit it.
“Your clothes are dirty anyway. I’ll find you some pyjamas and we can wash them later.”
She pulled him to her room and looked through her closet.
“Here, these are a little too big for me, they should fit you.”
They changed back-to-back and she pulled him into bed with her. He could feel a warmth starting to grow in his stomach as he lay with her.
“It’s nice spending time like this in my world. Normally I have to study for a test in school, or you’re trying to hurry me back to the Feudal Era, but today we’re in no rush.”
Inuyasha kissed her. All the feelings he’d been pushing aside practically since the time they’d met were hovering just below his surface. He wrapped his arm around her shoulders and pulled her in tighter, deepening their kiss. Kagome responded by entwining her fingers in his freshly cleaned hair.
The deeper they kissed, the bigger the warmth Inuyasha felt in the pit of his stomach, urging him to go further.
Kagome smells different. Could… could I be smelling her desire?
The thought warmed Inuyasha more and more until
“Uh-,” Kagome squealed and pulled back, blushing.
“What’s the matter?” Inuyasha asked before noticing the throbbing erection he had clearly visible under the flimsy pyjama bottoms.
He blushed scarlet and turned to face the ceiling, “Uh. sorry, I, can’t really help it. We can stop and just… take a nap.”
Kagome’s face started to cool and she stared at him with interest. She edged back toward him and rested her head on his shoulder, wrapping an arm over his chest.
“Do you-,” did he have the courage to say it? “Do you want to go further?”
Kagome stared at him looking for judgement or mockery in his face, but there was none.
“We don’t have to, Kagome. Just… if you want to. I wouldn’t think any less of you if you want to.”
Her embarassment seeped away and she said “Okay.” She too must have grown. “But I can’t get pregnant and I don’t have any contraception.”
“What should we do then?”
“Well, we could just use our mouths.”
“WHAT?! That’s disgust- uh. I mean, is it… safe?”
Kagome was blushing again profusely and clearly hurt. Callous as Inuyasha could be, he knew sex was a touchy subject for young women, and he felt deep regret at his show of disgust.
“People do it all the time in this age. It’s no more dangerous than the regular way.”
Inuyasha still felt a bit squeamish at this idea, but he was eager to assure Kagome she shouldn’t be embarrassed, and every bit of him was desperate to touch her as much as possible. Even if it would be in such a strange way.
He kissed her again, and this time she didn’t flinch when she felt his erection press on her legs. Instead she started to undo his pyjamas. One-by-one she undid the buttons on his shirt and took in what lay below. She’d seen him shirtless may times, but never had it made her feel such longing in her chest like this.
Inuyasha sat up so she could pull his shirt off him and he started to undo her buttons. With the first two undone he kissed her neck and down between her breasts, cupping each of them. Gently grazing her nipples with his claws, careful not to scratch her.
She undid her shirt and pulled it off, reaching for Inuyasha’s pants next. She rubbed his now massive erection, excitement continuing to build in her.
“Your desire smells so strong.”
He slipped a hand into Kagome’s pants while she slid his off. She was so wet and ready for him. He longed to plunge himself into her and hear her moans. He hoped she tasted as good as she smelled.
He pulled her pants off and climbed on top of her.
“I’ll go first.”
He leaned down to kiss her resting his hands on her swelling breasts, squeezing them. He pulled his claws gently along her sides as he kissed her lower and lower, leaving a tingle everywhere he touched.
He got down to her hips and paused to let the smell fill him. She spread her thighs to give him space, and he held her hips while he leaned down. He put his tongue over her whole vulva and started vigorously licking.
“Slow down!”
He slowed down, steadily licking everything.
I love this taste. Every sense is overwhelmed by her. It’s incredible.
Kagome had never felt anything like this. She was tingling all over. She felt pressure behind her nose, and energy in the pit of her stomach building so fast she was sure she couldn’t contain it. Heat travelled through her body and she started to shake and squeal.
“What! Did I hurt you?”
“No, don’t stop! It’s so goo - AAAHHHH!” She finished as Inuyasha resumed.
Kagome panted while Inuyasha wiped his mouth and lay back down beside her.
“So,” Kagome got out, between heaving breaths. “Using your mouth isn’t so bad?”
“No, I like it. I like tasting you. And I like knowing I can make you feel that good.”
“My turn then. When I catch my breath.”
Kagome started to turn and Inuyasha easily pulled her on top of him. She looked at him lovingly and kissed him before moving downward. She kissed a line all down him until she got to his erection. She put a hand around his shaft to hold him in place for her mouth. She slipped him in and sucked on him a few times, listening to his deep moans. Then she rubbed him with one hand while licking his most sensitive spot, gently pulling his head in and out of her mouth from time to time.
Inuyasha lightly tugged her hair as she sucked.
“You’re tongue feels so good.”
She licked his sensitive area faster and harder as he moaned deeper and longer until finally he felt warmth spread all over his stomach.
Kagome went to the bathroom, and then wiped him off with his bath towel before tucking them both into bed.
“Inuyasha, do you think anybody will notice something is different between us when we go back?”
But Inuyasha was already asleep.
Kagome wrapped herself in him arms, and let herself drift off peacefully beside him.

3. Favorite line/scene you wrote this year 📝💖
Argh @bearpluscat, that’s a hard one! Do I have to choose just one, cause there’s been some favorites across a few stories also what the hell I didn’t realize I had written so much go me lol
Okay so in no order:
Sharp-Dressed Hanyou: When he’s trying to get the cat hair off the black suit with the lint roller and Kagome’s trying to brush it off with her hands. No spoilers for anyone who hasn’t read it, but the image it presented when I was writing it was just too funny. And @lenbarboza‘s art sparked the idea but of course I took the silly route and y’all can’t tell me Buyo didn’t shed like crazy at some point.
Does This Game Have Fall Damage?: It’s pretty much one scene out of the bigger story that had no real place, but just some Haldir and Ithilwen father-daughter bonding time over Donkey Kong Country was fun to write.
Guide to the Recently Deceased: This one came about spitballing ideas with @c-s-stars and though it came out darker than I anticipated overall, this little bit where Jack and Esther try to determine if they’re alive or not is a favorite:
"Jack?" A moment passed before she heard, "Yeah?" "Are you dead?" Another pause. She squinted her eyes to see a mound of snow move and shift before uncovering Jack's head. He shook the snow out of his hair before he looked up at her. "I think we're alive!" he grinned.
Toddler Tizzy: I could say the scene where Kagome tries to get Inuyasha to take a bath when they first go back to  her time, but I think I’m gonna have to say the talks that Grandpa and Inuyasha have. Of all the stuff we were given in filler episodes, you’d think we’d have gotten some more interaction between those two.
Call Me Maybe: From my behemoth of a fic and the one update I made to it all year yikes, this bit, and I’m surprised no one’s screeched at me for the dialogue honestly lol:
Morwen paused the video again. "I suppose we could get takeout. Fiona!"
The strawberry blond poked her head around the doorway. "You bellowed, Mom?"
Morwen didn't bother to address Fiona's sass, or look up from her laptop. "Tell your sister to go pick something up for lunch."
Fiona disappeared, only to reappear seconds later. "Like what?"
"I don't know," the elleth sighed "All I know is that she needs to be gone for a while so I can finish her cake. Something portable that don't need no dishes would be good."
Both Celebrian and Sam looked up at Morwen, trying to make sense of what she said. Celebrian was mouthing "don't need no" frowning the more she did it. Neither one could figure out why, but they knew it wasn't proper language for any culture. Her accent had also gotten thicker, which could only mean it was picked up from the area.
Finally, Mating Fever: Can’t list the entire fic? Damn. I could say the pervy stuff, cause I surprised myself with this one, but... how about any moment with Youkai Inuyasha? He just took off and became this total smartass and was just hella fun to write. Also the literal dog-pile scene when Human Inuyasha gets pinned between the other two by an impulsive sit command. lol I’m so mean to the poor dude.

Taphag
Teresa May Mundiz
Tumblr media
Nong Porferio prepares the rice, eggs, and a roll of native cigarette for that day’s ritual. A son of a neighbor has had a fever for more than a week, and no medicine could seem to subside the illness. According to Anok, his grandson, they were just playing and shouting in the forest a fortnight ago. So Nong Porferio asked for Anok to help him do the taphag. It is also high time that his grandson learn their tribe’s ritual and panawagtawag.
“’Nok,” called out Nong Porferio, “can you please come out of the hut and help me here?”
Anok, in his brightly colored shirt and faded shorts, comes out of the hut. The boy lives with his grandfather because his school is just a kilometer away from his grandfather’s house. Both Anok and Nong Porferio have sunkissed skin, unkempt hair, lithe bodies, and honest faces. They are both Mandaya Kamayo living in Barangay Borboanan.
“Help me prepare the table for the taphag,” ordered Nong Porferio to the quizzical-faced Anok.
“Taphag-what?”
“Taphag is what we call our tribe’s ritual. During taphag, we prepare the table for our offerings to the spirits.”
“Are those rice and eggs for the spirits?” responded Anok almost with disbelief and excitement. He knows he is a Mandaya Kamayo, but he has not known about rituals or offerings all his 12-year-old life.
“Yes,” curtly replied Nong Porferio. “We have to do this because your friend has not been healed of his fever.”
Nong Porferio sets the buyo into the wooden mortar. He has to have his mama ready as well.
Anok, sensing the urgency of the taphag, quickly grabs on the bolo, goes at the back of the hut to get fresh banana leaves he will set on the table, then returns to where his grandfather is seen pounding the buyo for his mama.
“Tang, what else do we include in the taphag?” asked Anok. Indeed, he remembers another young boy whom he was playing weeks ago. He has not seen him after that, and he has heard about his fever. There was another neighbor who related on how this young boy’s stomach has swollen, too. “Tang?”
“Oh, I’m sorry, dong,” muttered Nong Porferio. “Please take out the chicken in the pot, and place it on the ritual table. Do not even try to put salt into it.”
“Why?”
“You know, the spirits…” jokingly responded the old man. “There has to be sweets like candies on the table, then, some rhum. But, again, no salt.”
Anok balances the pale chicken on the sartin plate as he walks towards the bamboo table filling up the gifts for the taphag. He sees his grandfather’s favorite rhum, still unopened, the eggs whose raw, hardened shell has the same color as the unsalted chicken, and a lot of candies. He wants one, but he has seen how Nong Porferio is also eyeing him. His eyes telling him, Do not steal from the spirits. Embarassed, Anok walks away from the table.
“They will be here in a minute,” remarked Nong Porferio.
“Nong!” came a shout from the distance. There are also other voices, leaves ruffling. They have visitors.
“Uy! come here,” ushered the old man. “Come near here in the table. I am almost done.”
Along with the entourage is the sick boy. He looks really frail, and his eyes have dark circles under them. His mother has been crying. “Please heal him, Tang.”
“We have to make peace, and ask the spirit to heal him,” came the reply.
Then, changing his usual clothes with a vest, and a piece of undergarment, both grandfather and Anok gather up the kamanyan leaves to build a fire. Anok fans the smoke as it rises up on air. Chewing on his mama, Nong Porferio lifts one by one the items on the table. He then chants a prayer, and moves toward the sick boy.
The smoke continues to rise, along with the taphag. Anok looks at his grandfather with pride and awe. He has not seen him in trance. Nong Porferio, in his old age, still moves lightly, circling the sick boy. And he guides the boy to move with him.
Anok feels the wind blowing, rustling the leaves of the trees around them. He sees the boy kneeling, his grandfather still in trance. Then, silence falls.
“Nay,” a weak voice came. It is the sick boy. His face no longer pale. A little smile forms his mouth.
“The spirits heal!”
“The spirits forgive!”
When everyone of the family gathers around the boy, Anok, also in trance, walks toward his grandfather. Nong Porferio is slumped, his head bowed down. He has fallen asleep after the taphag.
The "Taphag" talks about the old tradition of healing someone who got sick. The old man here is the healer and there was a boy who got sick because of the spirit who cursed him. The old man started the ritual which he called as Taphag together with his grandson. They offer some foods then the rituals and suddenly the boy slowly recover while the old man together with his grandson was in trance. This text just simply remind us of our traditions that before the changes that happen now there was a tradition in which our ancestors used to do, this text keep our tradition alive so that we will not just forget it because of the changes in our society.

#finishedbooks Japan, The Ambiguous, and Myself by Kenzaburo. What an amazing critical work! This is a collection of four lectures including his Nobel Prize acceptance speech (title of the book) that is a play on Kawabata Yasunari's Nobel acceptance speech. In the first, he uses examples from Japanese literature, “Tales of Genji" to the work of Soseki…the latter of whom prophesied Japan's moral urgencies would decline in its ambitions to modernize as a third world country that refused to play their role. By and by he relates this to the timelessness notion of the Yamato spirit. Now the term is remembered for it wartime usage, but it was taken from "Tale of Genji" where it related to a shared universal learning, a sensibility that was founded in Chinese culture. The Yamato spirit changed during Meji restoration relating its sensibility to Western culture, before it became what it is now known as that with any reading would of been contradicted in "Tales of Genji" that states without learning…the Yamato spirit serves no purpose. Actually I kind of feel that description of the first lecture is quite specific and would be redundant to outline the other three, but his moral preoccupations are this: Why has Japanese society become so morally decrepit in its materialistic endeavors? Why has their been such a drastic decline not only in Japanese literature but the culture in general? I touched on the former with the description of the first lecture, but the latter has been my concern since the first three Japanese novels I read (two by Murakami Haruki, one by Banana Yoshimoto) before being given novels by Mishima and Kawabata...There was a shift in the mid-late 60s where the next generation of minds just attacked all of their high culture in the name of dissidence that really had a lot of energy, but no real direction. In newer mediums like cinema and photography the results were better with the new wave and studio ATG (which kept Japanese cinema alive into the 70s) and in photography where you had Provoke/Vivo. But more so in the traditional arts where buyo became perverted into budo, fine art became postmodern poster art with political cliches, well written plays became the aimless dissident plays of Kara Juro where like flies would come out of woman vagina on stage….the hardest hit was literature where the genre of jun bungaku (serious/sincere literature) gave way to taishu bungaku (pop literature) and has not recovered. Oe cites the precise death of the jun bungaku with the last critical novel of Ooka Shohei and the suicide of Mishima Yukio. The postwar literature came out suppression of the wartime with a searching for new principles to build upon and these writers were perfectly in tune. Oe makes several interesting points, most obvious would be that the those writers went into more mainstream mediums writing screenplays, plays, etc, also the decline of critical literary magazines, but really the practice of accepting and discharging western ideas as in the late 60s and early 70s, the new ideas from France: structuralism, post-structuralism, etc came so fast that simply translating them was seen as enough of accepting an idea that would briefly be summarized and discharged as each new idea came. The result was that in this no writer actually internalized and put forth to literature any of these new ideas as they had in the past exhibiting the Yamato spirit in internalizing and then putting out those ideas. And all the while, why do the work when the pop works of Murakami and Yoshimoto sales are more than all other Japanese writers combined. He puts forth so many more honest, well reasoned, passionate ideas in this collection.
