Ok so of all the things about Baldur’s Gate that everyone keeps saying are amazing, let me put this one out there, because this is a thing I’ve been yelling about for easily a decade:

The voice actors know what they’re saying.

Like, here’s the usual flow for a voice actor in a major, triple-A rpg like, say, Mass Effect. The team pulls and prints a list of every line in the game for a specific character, and only those lines, and that “script” is handed to a voice actor. If there are weird alien words, someone might have thought to add a pronunciation guide. And that’s it. That’s all they get.

So you end up with a game where three different characters pronounce the same name in three different ways. You end up with a game where a character says “A bottle of [space drink] for whoever bags the most bad guys!” and another one says “that’s a sucker bet, you drank the last of the [space drink] last night (emphasis on space drink, like, you consumed a space buff so you’ll obviously win)” instead of “you drank the last of the [space drink] last night! (emphasis on the fact that it’s gone, and therefore there’s nothing to win).” You end up with a game where a character says “no one has thanked me” as though no thanks are being given to anyone, when the line should have been “no one has thanked me” because the entire point of that line is that everyone else except that character has just been thanked, and pointing that imbalance out is core to the scene. When a voice actor puts the wrong emphasis on a sentence, it changes the whole meaning, and when a voice actor has no context, it is inevitable that they will sometimes pick the wrong emphasis!

And I don’t know what Larian is doing backstage, but in however many thousand lines of dialog, I have not found even one of those yet.

In fact, very early in the game, there is a moment where the narrator is called upon to say a single word. One word. No surrounding sentence. No contextual dialog whatsoever. That word is “perfect.”

You read that as “PER-fect,” didn’t you? The adjective? Of course you did. That’s the natural reading. Literally any native English speaker, seeing that word in isolation, would automatically assume it was the adjective. 99% of the time, that’s what those letters mean.

The word was actually “perFECT,” the verb. “To improve a thing to its best form.”

And she gets it right.

Because someone told her what the fuck she was supposed to be saying.

Whatever else nonsense the industry does and does not take from this game’s production, I really hope “giving your poor VAs some godforsaken context improves the game” manages to sink into the brain of even one single other producer, somewhere.

okay now for the meat of the matter (the seitan of the matter?) 🪥🪥🪥 oh, what an ep. what an ep. it was pretty much PER-FECT. excitedly talking about their date in hushed tones. morgane’s gift. le numéro de charme de mr. worldwide (you loved that bit, didn’t you 👀). adam opening up! and, yeah, the kiss--wherever he is, I know sofiane is smiling upon them, glad to have played a (weird) part in his brother getting some action, lmfao. (btw, little brother confirmed!! yay!!)

morgane’s betrayal, aouch aouch aouch 😍 she hated every second of it and it still came back to bite them in the ass. wonderfully angsty 💙💜 the way adam’s face falls when he figures it out, AURGH!! the fact she sabotaged their perfect date to protect serge the only way that wouldn’t make her, in adam’s eyes, Un Nid À Problèmes who needs constant assistance--and in the end her worst fear comes true--yet adam takes it upon himself to protect serge (and morgane by extension) because he may hate her guts but he can’t to that to her--she asks him not to as a last-ditch effort to show she doesn’t want to use him and aaaaaaaahhhhhhh!!! I died many times over the course of this show but that time was for real, absolultely perfect, elle n’a jamais voulu le blesser mais c’est terminé, morgane !!!!!!!!

thank fuck I died there and then actually because, hum. you know. let’s bask in the warm glow of brosse adam one last time and remember the rollercoaster of emotions they’ve taken us on 🥲

Lol, took me a while to understand why you were turning the meat into seitan but then I couldn't stop laughing, this is incredibly appropriate 😅

I'm not sure I have anything else to add to everything you said, because Brosse Adam's arc in this episode was. perfect. ❤️❤️❤️

(which makes it even more infuriating that they ruined the absolute, beautiful perfection of what would have been otherwise my favourite episode in the entire show in its last two minutes but I'll get to that in my next post)

I loved how cute and excited they were about the date, I loved Morgane's gift and the way Adam is already projecting onto seeing her kids more often ("ça va être pratique pour votre famille, ça" -> oui tu penses à quoi Adam, dis-nous tout ? 😏), I loved the almost kiss although I rolled my eyes a little about Mehdi Nebbou's blatant linguistic brag (what makes you think I'd love that bit? 😂 Although I can tell that @earanie understandably lost her shit about it, I remained much quieter than during the actual kiss lol. Oh by the way, Adam's line in Italian means "But Morgane, if you keep asking me such questions I'm gonna kiss you" if you didn't have it yet, and also I want to add that IL L'A VOUVOYÉE EN ITALIEN AUSSI 😱 while as far as I know, the formal you is less used in Italian than in French, especially in this context, ce mec me tue 🤦), I loved the nachos nonsense (was it supposed to be a dish or just appetizers?), I loved that he opened up indeed (also "on va jouer à un jeu [...]" "Je déteste ça." "Ok super" 😂😂😂), c'est le retour du nouvel Adam 🥲

What did you think about Sofiane's backstory? I know you weren't very into the idea of Adam being too tied with it re cheap guilt etc, personally I find that it's a bit much, but also you can tell that Adam is feeling unreasonably guilty about it.

Speaking of which. Sofiane broke his back while Adam was "kissing [his] first girlfriend" which must have cast a very dark shadow over EVERY relationship he's had ever since 😱 I can imagine that this is where his fear of intimacy comes from, and also he must have had a sense of shame and guilt dooming his whole love life, not to mention that he used to LIVE with Sofiane, can you imagine bringing a girl home and having to literally face what happened the very first time you did that? This man for sure has a taste for emotional torture 😏

Also, vous aussi vous mettez votre plus grand trauma comme mot de passe de votre PC pro ou c'est juste lui ? Asking for a friend... 😆

(and I never doubted the younger brother thing, Sofiane does look more juvenile than Adam)

Now the Kiss™... If I start talking about it we're still there by midnight, but phewwwwww, it was EVERYTHING ❤️😍😱🥵🔥🙊 Morgane can bear triplets in season 4 for what I care, as far as I'm concerned, the show ended after they kissed and she betrayed him. Period.

So, the betrayal. Screeching along with everything you said because DAMN YES, it hurts so bad but it's so perfectly angsty, and the fact that he still protects her in the end because HE STILL CARES, her asking him NOT TO, the way you can tell the break-up hurts them BOTH so bad, the IRONY of Morgane trying not to ruin things by actually ruining them, I'm sorry I'm just parroting you at this point but 🥹🥹🥹🥹 And also the line that shattered my heart, "J'avais tellement envie que ça marche entre nous" -> SHE'S OPENLY ADMITTING THAT SHE WANTS A RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM OH MY GOD IT WAS NICE KNOWING Y'ALL BUT NOW I'M GONNA DIE BYE ⚰️⚰️⚰️

As far as I'm concerned, the season ends with Morgane being dragged away by a fireman. Hospital who?

🤡🤡 What an amazing, heart-wrenching season finale we had guys, I can't wait to see how they'll try to mend their relationship in season 4!! Also, the stakes must raise so maybe they'll finally hookup too! 🤡🤡

Notes: this is the first one shot I ever wrote so don’t expect it to be the best but I’m posing it here anyways (if you wanna read the other one shots the only other place they are is wattpad)

Maki and Kaito were quietly watching a movie just a month after they started dating. They're supposed to be doing homework but that wasn't gonna happen after kaito found out she's never seen "John Carter", a movie basically about space and aliens and stuff, he couldn't just "do homework" he needed to educate his wonderful girlfriend.

He excitedly explained everything about space, making it difficult for Maki to even hear the movie but she didn't mind, she just liked seeing her boyfriend talk about something he's so passionate about.

"So Mars is actually about 247.36 miles away? Ish?" Kaito starts, blissfully unaware of how loud and excited he's getting. "I mean it changes cause the way the planets orbit around the s-sun isn't a per....fect.... uh... o-oops...." Kaito notices and gets really flustered, cursing himself for his lack of self control.

Maki just giggles, while she'd never say this out loud she found it cute how excited he got about certain topics.

"I'll- I'll stop now... heh sorry got a little carried away there I guess." Kaito says, hand behind his neck feeling the anxiety of embarrassing himself in front of her, though he would usually try to cover how awkward he really was, when he was around Maki he couldn't help but feel completely flustered.

"It's fine, now let me watch I need to know more about this stuff." Maki giggles. She loves seeing the sparkle in Kaito's eyes when he got excited.

"Ok..." Kaito smiles, wondering how he got such a perfect girl.

He leans his head on her shoulder in exhaustion and she leans her head on his.

"Didn't sleep well?" She questions.

"Not really, got hyper fixated on how fabric is made." He states nonchalantly. (*aggressively head cannons kaito with adhd cause I have adhd and it brings me comfört*)

"Hm that's cool." She says, love in her voice.

She strokes his hair slowly, giving his forehead kisses as he raps his arms around her waist.

They lay like that for a while, until she hears him softly snoring.

She smiles to herself, wondering how she went from being an assassin to having the most wonderful boy in the world laying on her shoulder.

She slowly doses off as well.

oooh ok here we go 💀 (probably not my most embarrassing but it’s pretty recent and i’m still scarred lmao)

so i was at one of my guy friend’s birthday party and i had a huge crush on his bestfriend, but we had never really talked - or when we talked it was always in a group

anyways, during the night my friends decided to sneak into the backyard of a castle where they used to go when they were kids. but my crush stayed behind and so i did too because... gotta create a moment yknow 😌

so it was a PERFECT opportunity : just the two of us, outside, during the night, at a party. PER-FECT

well...... my shy ass just froze 🙃 we spent like 5-10 minutes in the most awkward silence ever, both praying for our friends to come back soon because it was just unbearable

but the worst thing is that when i’m embarrassed i tend to hum whatever song is stuck in my mind. so please just picture my crush and i, alone outside of a freaking castle, in complete silence except for me who was humming HOTEL ROOM SERVICE THE WHOLE TIME 💀💀💀

You should just follow my recommendations, and about in 15 minutes we'll be ready. Oh, and if something will be unclear because of my accent - feel free to ask, I'll try to explain.

Ok, to begin with, I need you to lift something heavy a couple of times, like on your famous pic with that dumbbell, you know which one I mean… is it possible, that your deltoid would contract the same way like on that pic? But under your yellow shirt, yes. No, of course the audience won’t see it under the shirt, they just will feel it… Oh, I’m sure they will. Yes, it’s the purpose. Yes, lift it right now please, before the shooting, it’s an important part of our preparation.

What for? Oh, you see, Mr. Glen, we need you to be a bit sweaty, you know, like a tiny gentle touch of fresh perspiration, but not too much, just like a light wet shine on your skin, yes, under your body hair, exactly.

Pardon, what? Of course it’s not enough to spray some water on him, darling! What do you say? There will be the same effect? There will be not, trust me! Micro drops of water will be ON his body hair, and we need them to be UNDER it, we need them to come out of his body. And anyway, It’s not the appearance of wetness we need, it’s the scent! “Ohhhh man,” she giggled, “Wraith, I was SERIOUSLY impressive! I mean, I know I’m not exactly modest when it comes to this stuff, but I kicked. His. Ass.”

“Well, I’ve seen you with a gun, Spook,” he answered mildly, “I’m really not all that surprised. Besides, your alien dna means you have better reflexes AND your vision is more suited to long range targeting. The poor guy didn’t even know you had a biological advantage.”

“Poor guy? This is Grift we are talking about. The darling little heart throb of the entire organization. Poor nuthin. Besides, he wasn’t even supposed to be COMPETING against me, he was supposed to be EVALUATING me. He was the one that decided we should go head-to-head” she hopped to her feet on the bed and did a little bouncing dance, her voice a sing-song, “and I got a perfect score! Bam! Booyah! Per-Fect Score!”

“Okay, okay,” Wraith laughed, knocking her ankles out from under her so she fell onto the mattress beside him. “Perfect score. I get it. You got to rub it in his face. I understand.”

“But you don’t. You can’t. If you understood, you’d be celebrating triumphantly with me.” She crawled over him, arms crossed over his chest and face tipped up to his. He was one of the few that she was completely comfortable being physically affectionate with, and she made the most of any opportunity to do so. “He was so pissed. SO pissed. He was sooo sure I’d fail… and then?”

“Perfect score,” he said dryly.

“Perfect score,” she repeated, “oh man, Wraith, his FACE! The look on Grift’s face! You should have seen it. It was amazing. Even better than when he found me naked at the beach and didn’t know where to look.” She sighed happily, rolling onto her back and kicking her legs up into the air, bicycling them in an attempt to burn off some excess energy. “I’m too wound up to hang out in here all night. We should do something fun. Go celebrate.”

“Back up a second- naked at the beach?” he asked, “WHY were you naked at the beach?”

“Because I wanted to feel the sun on my skin?” she answered, looking at him in confusion, “because I CAN be naked at the beach without putting myself in a medbay? The sun makes my rosettes tickle. It was nice.”

“You are so odd sometimes… just do me a favor and don’t tell the others- they’ll get all over-protective and scandalized and be all ‘you should talk to her- she listens to you’,” his voice went high pitched and mocking, “I don’t like the nagging. AND I want to stick with being your FRIEND not some kind of stand-in for your parents.”

“I don’t get how they are so prudey now- they were never this prudey when I was an actual child,” she rolled her eyes, “I was just NAKED, it’s not like I was hooking up with anyone. I was literally standing still and looking at the sky. It’s just skin.”

“Exactly- it’s not even worth mentioning.” He grinned at her. “So, you wanted to celebrate?”

“Yes! How does… rock climbing sound?”

“Rock climbing sounds… pretty fun actually. You surprised me, I was expecting you to call for a night out at a club.”

“Nope- clubbing is what I do to cheer me up. I want to do something fun, and challenging with my friend.”

“You know who LOVES to climb?” he coaxed.

“Ok fine, you can invite your fiance- BUT if he starts being all over-protective-honorary-uncle I’m leaving your asses behind.”

“Deal!” He grinned, “babe? Love of my life? Man of my dreams?”

She made a playful show of gagging. The familiar, although MUCH younger, face of the man she grew up knowing as the best friend of her father, and who later became her beloved father-in-law, appeared in the bedroom doorway.

“What, my darling husband-to-be?” he answered, batting his eyes in exaggerated affection.

“You wanna go rock climbing? SOMEONE has something she wants to celebrate.”

“Oooh! A celebration? Did you meet someone?” He asked, his face alight with curiosity.

“Pfft, no! Better! I had to run shoot’em’up sims with Grift as part of getting security clearance, and I put the smug little shit In. His. Place! I got a perfect score!”

“Yes!” He swung into the room and gave her a high five, “I cannot stand that little smug little shit!”

“See?” she said, turning to Wraith, “HE gets it!”
