the funniest part of the nico gets outed section in HOO is when jason is like i guess compared to my dads sex life being gay isnt that crazy! dude he once turned into a ray of a light to fuck a girl. of course thats weirder than being gay. 2013 is awesome.

grover saying "i mean you're not exactly…" and percy going "normal?" but it's chris mccarrell putting his whole heart into gay percy is absolutely devastating

as a tlt musical lover I will be the first to admit that some of the lyrics are awful, light and love 💕, but no musical has been snubbed as hard as the lightning thief. in the 2020 season, it was one of only two shows that opened in time to have a leading actor and the only musical to have opened with an original score, and the american theater wing hated it so much that not only did they refuse to nominate chris mccarrel and thus give aaron tveit a win by default, but they changed the rules of the best original score award for that year so they could nominate a bunch of plays with background music instead of the lightning thief. vote for the lightning thief, most snubbed musical ever.

i know i would have been campaigning soooo hard for nico to get egot status. ALSO him getting that tony for something similar to hadestown makes so much sense i think that’s actually pretty doable for him. maybe him getting it from being involved in a original score ??
also about tlt musical being snubbed at the tony’s was the worst thing ever!!! chris mccarrell 100% deserved that nomination, the fact that his category only had 1 nominee just proves that they did not want him to win at all
lowkey i might end up not making it a full sequel, but just like a one or two shot epilogue sort of thing?? bc the more i think abt it, the more i NEED nico to get egot status. like he just is THAT guy
ik that writing a musical is very very different from writing a song/album but i think he’d def do it right, probably coming up with the concept on his own and then reaching out to someone who’s written musicals before/knows what they’re doing (aka not me, which is probably my biggest reason for being hesitant abt confirming a third long fic in the series)
and LITERALLY I WAS LOOKING IT UP BEING LIKE??? IT WAS LITERALLY ONE OF THE ONLY OPTIONS FOR A NOMINATION, THE ONLY ONE FOR BEST ORIGINAL SCORE, AND IT DIDNT GET IT??? i mean ive only listened to a few of the songs on the soundtrack (again, not rlly a musical theater person, just personal taste i mostly stick to pop😭) but imo it def deserved it :// rip to the tlt musical fans who have been in the trenches im new here😭😭

when u get this put 5 songs 🎵 u actually listen to, publicly. then, send this ask to 10 of your favorite followers ✨ ❤️
I'm gonna do five songs I've got on repeat right now.
Morally Grey (Nate Haven Edition) by April Jai and Nation Haven. yeah I'm a dark romance whore and y'all should be aware of this.
Karma by Taylor Swift. my shitty ex who ruined my life when I was newly sick with Long COVID apparently got Long COVID and yeah. that shit's on repeat
Good Kid by Chris McCarrell from the Lightning Thief musical. I did go thru six schools in six years so ✌️
The Way I Loved You (Taylor's Version) by Taylor Swift. tbh most of what I listen to is TS. this is such a dramatic me song

(^ solace begging me 🙏 to put it)
(i have my own lil thing on this and i wanna see ur thoughts on it 🙏)
(ALSO HAVE MY OWN THOUGHTS ON THIS ONE)
(THIS ONE STARTED AN AU I LOVE TALKING ABOUT I LOVE THIS AU SM)
(i. i also have my own thoughtsies.)
^ or any other tlo song 🙏 also maybe a hadestown song for ur valgrace i think hadestown au
hello!! here is the first one! i will continue to work on the others :3!!
okay!! so i pretty much immediately thought of percy thinking of octavian,. such lyrics as, “i just really hate your face, though i know that won’t surprise you”. there’s this idea throughout HOO (specifically SoN) that Octavian is just horribly annoying to Percy. when they first met, to my knowledge, octavian didn’t do anything right away, percy just found him HORRIBLY annoying lmao 😭😭,.
HOWEVER!! as the song goes on, i begin to think a different character fits this song more.
i have settled on, instead of percy towards octavian, jason towards octavian. “and if the world was perfect, you would be gone without a trace, but since the world could never be that great, i’ll just hate your stupid face” reminds me of jason because jason is someone who tends to settle for things.
allow me to explain.! percy is someone who fought the god of war when he was 12, he doesn’t let people just push him around. he has pretty much always been someone who has put matters into his own hands, which in my opinion, is part of what makes him such a good protagonist.
jason, on the other hand, lets himself get pushed around. he has always been a rule follower, probably since he first met lupa. yes, he did take matters into his own hands in the sense of the legions, but in some cases, jason just kind of lets things happen. when piper broke up with him, i sensed there was this kind of shrug he did regarding it all. yes, i don’t think he loved piper like that. but i do think he loved her, the way a brother loves his sister. he didn’t want to lose her companionship, but, maybe because he felt there was nothing he could do about it, he just let her go. he did his best to protect her even after that, when he thought the prophecy was about her.
coming back the the lyrics, specifically “i’ll just hate your stupid face”. kind of like what i was just talking about, since jason feels he can’t really do anything about octavian’s existence, he kind of just shrugs at the situation. if my memory serves me, when jason met percy and found out about how he kind of out-ruled octavian, he was surprised. maybe because he didn’t think there was ever anything to do about it, and then something did happen.
“i just really miss your face” ok just here me out ok. no i don’t think jason has a crush or anything on octavian. BUT. i do think he missed octavian. octavian is a kind of symbol of how things used to be for jason. they knew each other for at least a good while, probably years, if i’m being honest here though. i think a part of jason misses how things used to be, before he got his memory erased. i know he loves his friends and all, but i think it can be a kind of double edged sword. he wants to go back, maybe take his close friends with him.
“but since the world denied me one last kiss” meaning he never got to say goodbye. not to anyone, but especially not to the place he grew up in. he never got to return home, he never got to be a hero. (meaning in greek myth, the hero always returned home after the journey.) he never got to even say goodbye to his best friend, let alone his home of so many years.
what i’m getting at here is that perhaps he uses octavian as a reminder of his past. maybe of all he has lost. perhaps even all that he misses.

A little Mianite character song themes list. I exclusive listen to musicals so this is mostly off vibes that I decided on base instinct. I've only done characters where I felt very certain that there's something there, which is why I haven't done all the characters.
Inspired by @licantropa's Ianite character song list they did when wrapped came out.
Tom: Candy Store - Heathers
Jordan: Crossing a Bridge - Anastasia
Sonja: No Good Deed - Wicked
Nadeshot: The Last Day of Summer - The Lightning Thief

Capsize: My Grand Plan - The Lightning Thief

Redbeard: Drink With Me - Les Miserables

Andor: Good Kid - The Lightning Thief

Dianite (S2): Blood in the Water - Legally Blonde

Katieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Top ten productions in the last 5 years that you've seen?
KAT, STOP BEING MEAN TO ME. Honestly, I'm up to 60-odd productions, and narrowing this down was SO HARD. I peaked in 2018. Except that my NYC trip was in 2017, just a few months past five years ago, so Broadway Backwards and the OBC of Dear Evan Hansen don't count.
That said, here's where we landed. Organized chronologically, to avoid having to pick one single favorite among the standouts. Yes, I am open to follow up questions, and let the record show that "favorite shows I've seen" and "favorite shows" aren't necessarily the same, though that venn diagram is pretty close to a circle.
Under a cut because the list is LONG and DETAILED.
Sweeney Todd – 8 April 2018 This was a local production, with Tally Sessions and Chris McCarrell from New York to play leading roles, and this theatre just always does really really great work. My dad and I made a whole little day of it, and they did a Q&A after, and it was SO GOOD (you’ll see this same theatre come up again later).
If/Then – 29 April 2018 Another local production, but not where I live. I drove up to see it with one of my friends. Black box theater (where the stage and the audience are level, so everything is super close up and intimate) is my favorite kind of theatre, and it was INCREDIBLE to sit front row, half a foot away from the action It’s been like four years and I still haven’t stopped thinking about how much I loved the set too.
Newsies– 8 July 2018, 19 July 2018 Listen, I just really like local theatre, OK?! My area did two productions of Newsies the same summer, but this one was technically first. All local talent, and SO MUCH OF IT. The guy who played Jack Kelly honestly had NO RIGHT to go as hard as he did. I remember genuinely wondering if he was going to take down part of the scaffolding with how hard he was rattling it during Santa Fe. So good I had to go back and see it a second time.
Last Days of Summer – 14 September 2018 Remember that local theatre from Sweeney Todd? WELL THEY DID IT AGAIN. A world premiere baseball/WWII musical, starring Corey Cott (one of my personal favorite people). The show was FANTASTIC, and they let the audience stay for the cast party, so I actually got to meet/hug him. Also, I was freshly 21, so this was the first time I drank, accidentally. That’s a helluva story, but off topic for this post.
Dear Evan Hansen – 25 September 2018 Opening night of the first national tour stop in Denver. Need I say more? OK, I can say more. Uhhhh … check the tag ‘Katie and Rach: Destination Denver’ for the video I made about the roadtrip to see this show, and the highlights post from the show itself (from back in the days when Rachel and I liveblogged our friendship like hooligans).
The Play That Goes Wrong – 7 April 2019 I mean, you know how I feel about the entire Goes Wrong franchise, and this was what started it all. I saw it on a bad day, but then sat there and laughed for two and a half hours. It was SO fantastic, and I’ve been chasing it down again ever since. This summer, maybe …
Who’s Your Baghdaddy – 27 September 2019 I saw this one on a last-minute whim with my mom – of all people – because it was the end of September and the show I had tickets for got postponed (yeah, yeah, we’re all very proud of JerJor for being in Supergirl again, but the timing could have been better). It was the only thing I could find on my day off work, so we bought a couple of tickets as I swore up and down that I had no idea what the show was about, so if it was horribly offensive, it wasn’t my fault. And then instead it was hilarious and awesome and absurd in the best way.
Bandstand – 19 December 2019 A post-WWII musical about a group of vets starting a band to win a competition. The tour cast was INCREDIBLE, and the show never doesn’t give me chills and sobs. Bonus funny story: the community college that hosted the tour stop did a Q&A about the show and the history surrounding it before curtain call, and the professor running that totally spoiled the whole ending. At least I already knew how it went?
An Evening With Jeremy Jordan – 26 August 2021 OK, this is the one that was supposed to be September 2019. Three more delays (JerJor was in Little Shop of Horrors, COVID, COVID) and two venue changes (same local theatre, but it turns out they have more stages than I thought, and we ended up in a tiny event space upstairs from the upstairs. On the list for favorite venue, in terms of being beautiful and intimate and just perfect for the show they put on) later, it was my first indoor show post-pandemic, and it BLEW ME AWAY. Laughed, cried, lived, loved, all of it. A perfect, triumphant return.
Pretty Woman – 10 March 2022 Duh.

I must really be more disconnected from the broadway world than I thought since I wasn’t even aware the Lightning Thief made it to broadway, I thought it was only off-broadway.
Anyway. Chris McCarrell was the best Marius ever (and you can fight me on that opinion), I raved about his Empty Chairs for years, so for that reason alone I am sad he did not get the nomination for Lightning Thief. He deserves appreciation.

it's been a few days now but I'm still angry about the lightning thief musical snub like how can you nominate PLAYS for best score and only ONE ACTOR for best actor rather than show any respect to the only qualifying musical with an original score this season because it ??? is based on a book for children?? or is the problem it's geared towards younger audiences??? what exactly went wrong here

Ok so here's a thing
Am I the only one who finds it super easy to determine which actors playing roles in Les Mis on stage I love in each role. But I can't throw the movie actors into that ranking because like, it's such a different style???
Like no I can't tell you if I prefer Aaronjolras to Raminjolras. Aaronjolras is played for the camera, his voice is softer, more tempered, more traditionally tenor. Acting is at the forefront of the performance rather than singing. This is the case for all actors in the movie actually.
Which is not to say I wholly agree with those who claim that Eddie was the best at Marius acting-wise but not singing-wise. First of all, I happen to love Eddie's voice and his rendition of Empty Chairs at Empty Tables makes me cry every time I watch it.
But I wouldn't say he was better at acting the role than Rob Houchen. Nor vice versa since I firmly believe Eddie Redmayne was robbed of an Oscar nomination for Les Mis. It's just diFFeReNt.
Marius onstage needs that powerful chest voice. You need to feel the sorrow in your chest. Marius onstage needs to be understood and experienced just as much by the back row as the front.
Marius onscreen can be softer. Marius onscreen can be more reserved. Marius onscreen needs to make you look into his eyes and cry with him, not for him. Marius onscreen can whisper sing if it feels right.
Enjolras onstage needs to be commanding. Enjolras onstage needs to be almost one-dimensional (not in a bad way). Enjolras onstage needs to make you feel the fight for freedom in your soul.
Enjolras onscreen can have more nuance. Enjolras onscreen can be a little unsure. Enjolras onscreen can be afraid.
And those are just two character examples.
It's just hard to include the film actors in the same category as the stage actors. Even if you're saying one did one element better than the other. You can't because the goals were completely different!
I'm sure Eddie Redmayne and Aaron Tveit would have played Marius and Enjolras very differently had they been staging Les Mis instead of filming it! And Rob Houchen and Bradley Jaden or Chris McCarrell and Ramin Karimloo would have played their roles differently if they were being filmed as well!
The intention is so different!!!!!
So yes I have ten versions of Empty Chairs at Empty Tables on my male solos playlist why do you ask????
Can I write a school paper on this?
