Do you think Barbara Gordon’s relationship with Jim plays a part in the whole cop apologia? I don’t think there has been an instance where she ever calls him out on it or is at odds with him. Their relationship is seen as this father and daughter happy thing which in part sheds Jim as this good guy... hmm...and now looking at how Chuck Dixon wrote Dick Grayson vs Barbara Gordon is really stands out how Dick was written as trying to fight corruption within the police force or whatever (I mean he ends up writing Dick enjoying being a cop? Dixon even wrote a Jim one shot with the same premise about wanting to be a cop to end corruption blah blah) while Barbara was written (by Dixon) as a little girl who admired cops and wanted to be one and then ends up dating a sleazy cop version of Jason Bard (Dixon’s version) and ends up also dating Dick when he is a cop (Don’t get me started on all the sexy uniform and officer Grayson stuff dialogue/scenes 🤢) but the whole actual cop stuff is never really addressed with her? Like half assed lines that have nothing to do with like an actual conversation between her and Jim don’t count because wouldn’t this character have a problem with it? Didn’t this character once run for Congress because they wanted police reform? In so much adjacent media/films/AUcomics she is always a cop or the commissioner which is insane because it is the men around her who really were those things...thinking.....thinking...

YEAH like the sheer degree of disservice done to her by dixon is insane tbh.. so strange how her being inspired by bruce was somehow not good enough and it was more empowering for her to be inspired by the cops instead like oh no i can't be a cop bc i'm young and i'm a girl guess i'll be batgirl instead.. and the thing is you really could create such an interesting tension between her and gordon if you leaned more into the potential for her to be cop critical esp by way of her position as oracle like would she not be near entirely privy to all of the technical ways in which they abuse their power and is she not also privy to their abuses bc her father literally talks about and laments them and the struggle to change them all of the time lmao. it feels counterintuitive to put her in that omnipotent position and not have her realize somehow just how futile trying to change the system from within is and how her father may be enabling the system more than helping it actually accomplish anything worthwhile

#and i don't even want to start on dick like god. the guy with procedure paranoia and insistence on honesty would be a cop. sure #outbox
