tumblr is probably gonna destroy the quality, but here’s a quick little comic i came up with last night! an asexual child of aphrodite asks for some guidance from her mom.
(ACE EXCLUSIONISTS DO NOT INTERACT, THIS IS NOT FOR YOU)
my writing is a little bit illegible, so there’s a visual description with text under the cut:
PAGE 1: [Image description: A girl in plain clothes kneels next to a small burning incense. The air begins to fill with smoke. She looks upwards and says, “Oh great goddess Aphrodite...”]
PAGE 2: [The panel cuts to a front-on of the girl’s face as she says, “I don’t understand why you have claimed me.” The next panel is several drawings of couples of various genders and physical descriptions flirting and holding each other. “All my brothers and sisters...They love so freely. I’m not like them. I feel like there’s something wrong with me...” The next panel is back to the girl, looking down sadly. “I worry that I’m not worthy of you...”]
PAGE 3: [In the first panel, a hand reaches out towards the girl, who is facing away from it. The in the second panel, the hand gets closer and the girl seems to notice, turning around to face a bright yellow-white light in the third panel. It looks to be the back of the goddess Aphrodite. The girl looks on in shock as the goddess says, “Nonsense, child.”]
PAGE 4: [In the first panel, the girl is standing in front of Aphrodite as the goddess speaks to her: “Love comes in many forms.” In the second panel, there are a series of drawings of various people - brothers and sisters, a mother and pregnant daughter, a single father and his child, two young friends - “and means different things to different people.” In the third panel, which is split into two frames, there is a closeup of the girl’s face. She looks shocked in the first panel, and then smiles in the second, a tear sliding down her face.]
PAGE 5: [The girl stands upright in front of Aphrodite, holding an asexual pride flag over her shoulders. She is still crying, but looks very happy. Aphrodite’s voice is in the background: “Whoever you love, in whatever way you love... you are still my child. You are not alone.”]

"Talking about being asexual/aromantic is pointless and nobody's business"
Have you considered that I openly talk about being asexual and aromantic because I felt like I was a freak of nature for not being able to relate to other people and I don't want anybody feeling in any way like I did? Shoving asexuality and aromanticism under the rug encourages people to feel isolation and alienation - which isn't good. Talking about asexuality and aromanticism and informing people about such identities is important whether or not you are ace or aro. If it bothers you, then you can leave these spaces. Ace and aro people deserve to talk about their identities and advocate for acceptance and understanding.

Comic #261: - Growing up Ace - Website links: here!   Being pride month I wanted to dig a little deeper into what it was like growing up Asexual, too many people gatekeep and suggest that an absence of something doesn't qualify as queer.  I was definitely treated as abnormal or broken by well meaning friends & strangers alike.

Two Spirits are transcendent Indigenous lesbians are lovely Indigenous gay people are glorious Indigenous bisexual people are breathtaking Indigenous transgender people are terrific Indigenous nonbinary people are incredible Indigenous intersex people are perfect Indigenous pan people are astonishing Indigenous ace people are amazing Indigenous LGBT+ people are important members in the community
Happy Pride month to all LGBT+ Indigenous people, from a 2S nonbinary bi woman! ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
Being LGBT+ and Indigenous at the same time can feel very lonely and isolating at times, people tend to forget we are here and when we’re remembered it’s often as an afterthought. It can be difficult to find more people you can relate to, especially because the community can sometimes feel unsafe or unwelcoming due to racism
As lonely as it can be and as unwelcoming the community can feel, you are, and always will be, important and loved and appreciated members in the community ♥
