Ah, Andrei. He is so horrible, I love him.

I like thinking of different outfits for him (also for Strauss) - he doesn't need clothes to protect him from the weather, he doesn't seem to have a desire to look presentable or unremarkable or not startling, so the only thing he needs clothes for is their best purpose: decoration. He wears them so he can look dramatic in them. And the ones he is wearing in Bloodlines are very suitable for this. But surely he must have other ones also. I decided a good while ago that this outfit is one that he has; and now here he is wearing it, telling his band of ruffians companions about his atrocities values and plans.

I gave myself very little room for his elaborate clothing. But if I hadn't, it wouldn't have fit in the scanner and you wouldn't be looking at it.

This week I did the Manifesto Workshop with Fiona.I really enjoyed working with the risograph printer because of the vibrancy of the colours it produces.I’m really happy with how these turned out. Unfortunately some of the letters weren’t picked up by the printer so I am going to go back in with paint and redo some of the letters so they are visible.I would love to blow this up as an A3 poster in the future.

To create this piece I made a collage using a car advertisement and then drew the horse and sulkey from this reference photo I took. I did that in sharpie and white acrylic paint. I wanted to play with the idea of modern transport vs being transported the old fashioned way by horse.I had fun with this in my last painting also by painting the horse and bus together as options of transport.I did this because where we live we constantly joke about hopping on a horse to college instead of taking the sometimes unreliable bus.Therefore I thought The Rubber Bandits “Horse Outside” song would fit in with the concept, and also because it shows the culture of Limerick horse ownership.

I paint in a style shown to me during an NDE (near-death experience).

Bandits reflects how my mind (which is naturally busy) gets wrapped up in overthinking and sometimes self-sabotage, robbing me of precious energy and peace. It’s also about tiresome people that do the same.

The bulk of the painting (save the bandits) shows indecipherable complexity. A smiley face dangles in from the universe in the upper right-hand corner, offering an alternative view, a reminder not to take things so seriously. We’re on a short and wild ride. It’s unlikely that any of us will figure much of this out. So, don’t let the bastards grind you down and don’t let the bandits steal your joy!
