Death Spot {Akihito and Mirai}

“Hiroomi! Stop–!”

Hiroomi whined, only pushing his hands closer to Akihito’s armpits. Akihito squirmed and hissed, trying to shake him off. Mirai watched, puzzled, as she sorted the books in the literature club.

“Akihito, why is it that you don’t like that? Mitsuki and I are fine holding hands and such,” Mirai said, gesturing to Mitsuki, who nodded.

“This – This is not holding hands; he’s attacking me!”

“It’s not my fault your so ticklish where you’re warm.”

“Wait… Akihito is ticklish?” Mirai asked, her eyes widening in surprise. Akihito floundered, immediately denying it by shaking his head. Hiroomi only needed to wiggle his fingers to prove him wrong as Akihito squeaked loudly.

Mirai’s jaw dropped. Akihito’s cheeks flushed.

Hiroomi grinned and pulled his hands out of Akihito’s armpits and shoved him towards Mirai. “Why don’t you try it, Mirai?”

She squeaked as Akihito stumbled into her. “How unpleasant!”

Akihito thought that Mirai wouldn’t even dare try, but he suddenly felt a prod under his arms. He flinched away, looking back at Mirai with wide eyes. She smiled goofily, quickly lodging her hands under his arms as she wiggled her fingers.

“No! Mirahahahai!” Akihito shrieked as Mirai giggled in amusement, tickling him gently.

“It’s practically his death spot. Can’t take anything there,” Mitsuki mused, popping another candy into her mouth as she read her book. She didn’t even need to look up to know what was happening as Akihito’s laughter filled the room.

Hiroomi sighed happily. “Maybe Mirai and I finally share a common interest: Akihito’s armpits.”

Mitsuki glared at Hiroomi and made a gagging noise. “How am I even related to you?”

The siblings completely ignored Akihito’s cries for help as Mirai teased him, laughing along with him as he flailed, trying to wiggle away.

“Stahahap! Plehehease, Mirahahai! I’m dying!”

“Good! If I can’t kill you the normal way, I’ll just have to tickle you!”

“Nohohohooo!”

Akihito would be fine, but Mirai was definitely going to be tickling him there for a while longer… Would he actually be fine?

Summary:

Mirai Kuriyama is the sole survivor of a clan of Spirit World warriors with the power to employ their blood as weapons. As such, Mirai is tasked with hunting down and killing “youmu”—creatures said to be the manifestation of negative human emotions. One day, while deep in thought on the school roof, Mirai comes across Akihito Kanbara, a rare half-breed of youmu in human form. In a panicked state, she plunges her blood saber into him, only to realize that he’s an immortal being. From then on, the two form an impromptu friendship that revolves around Mirai constantly trying to kill Akihito, in an effort to boost her own wavering confidence as a Spirit World warrior. Eventually, Akihito also manages to convince her to join the Literary Club, which houses two other powerful Spirit World warriors, Hiroomi and Mitsuki Nase.

I haven’t heard many people talk about this anime, but honestly this is my favourite romance anime (I don’t even like romance anime). It has an interesting shonen-esque world that’s introduced to us by an array of colourful characters and manages to keep you interested the entire time! This show has a bit of everything: fantasy, comedy, romance, and they all mix into an emotional rollarcoaster that has an episode where they become Japanese Idols for some reason. The animation is on another level –especially for 2013– and it has a beautiful story with a conclusion that I’ve never really seen with many other anime!
