Lahden kaupunki täyttää 117 vuotta 1.11. Syntymäpäivä alkaa Aleksanterinkadun talvivalojen sytyttämisellä klo 17. Kaikille avointa, yhteistä juhlaa vietetään kauppatorilla klo 17–18.

Professori Tapani Aartomaan (1934-2009) suunnittelemat valot ovat valtakunnallinen harvinaisuus sekä kuva-aiheiltaan, syntyvaiheiltaan että väreiltään.

Kuvissa seikkailevat metsän eläimistä kettu, jänis ja riekko. Aurinko, kuu, mökki, lumi ja kuuset vievät ajatukset aamusta iltaan kestävälle hiihtoretkelle. Lahtelaisin hahmo on mäkihyppäävä lumiukko, joka sai lempinimekseen tuolloin pinnalla olleen Jari Puikkosen.

Valotarinaan kuuluu 11 kuviota, jotka on nimetty seuraavasti: Talviaurinko, Kuusimetsä, Ketunhäntä, Puikkonen, Laturetki, Puputyttö, Yömyssy, Ketunpolku, Riekko, Lumipensas ja Talvi-ilta.
