Forty Days of Frankenstein, Day Fourteen: It’s images like this one that just make me glad to be alive. At least three times prior to this (that I’ve seen), MAD magazine had mashed up their mascot, Alfred E. Neuman, with the Frankenstein monster. But this one is arguably the best. Painted by frequent MAD artist Jamie Warhola in 1983, this image ultimately ended up on a 1985 compilation paperback published in 1985. Things I love about this image: 1) It’s nice to see an acknowledgement of the “furry vest” Monster image from Universal Pictures 1939 film *Son of Frankenstein*, 2) I love the Duracell batteries in his neck instead of electrodes, 3) also the fact that, instead of clamps on his forehead, what he has is Band-Aids. Altogether inspired!
