Denying Alfred Kinsey was a child molester because he did not himself touch minors inappropriately to gather his data makes as much sense as denying Charles Manson was a murderer because he was not present for any of the murders for he would eventually be found guilty.

"37 states have what's called 'Obscenity Exemption Statutes.' And that allows them to put pornographic books in schools. So, what's happening is, you can be in a school and show children in a classroom books like 'Gender Queer.' Books like 'Let's Talk About It.' Whatever porn it is, doesn't matter. You can show it to them.
But if you walk outside that school to the playground across the park, and show those same children the same material, you'll be arrested.
We have a nonsensical system where the institutions with authority are able to deliver the most damage and abuse to our children."
-
"When you're a poor kid from a poor family, religion counts for a lot. And when a priest pays attention to you, it's a big deal. He asks you to collect the hymnals or take out the trash, you feel special. It's like God asking for help. So maybe it's a little weird when he tells you a dirty joke, but now you got a secret together, so you go along. Then he shows you a porno mag, and you go along. And you go along, and you go along, until one day he asks you to jerk him off or give him a blow job. And so you go along with that, too, because you feel trapped, because he has groomed you. How do you say no to God, right? See, it is important to understand that this is not just physical abuse, it's spiritual abuse, too. And when a priest does this to you, he robs you of your faith. So you reach for the bottle or the needle. Or if those don't work, you jump off a bridge. That's why we call ourselves survivors." -- Phil Saviano

"This is in school?!?"
-
"If a priest telling a kid a joke. If a priest talking about sex. If a priest showing a kid pornography, keeping a secret with a kid, coming between a kid and his parents. If a priest doing those things is grooming, anyone doing those things is grooming. And that includes every teacher who's doing this. Every librarian who's in on it. And every school board member and politician who isn't protecting your kids."
==
A predator is a predator. If you only fixate on the ones with clerical collars, you don't really care about protecting children.
I'm opposed to banning books. Publish whatever books you like. However, that doesn't mean you get to show them to kids. We don't need to "ban" them to say they're inappropriate. Video games and movies have ratings, and that's not "censorship" either.

Uncertain Future of the Historic Kinsey Institute
Tumblr media
For 75 years, the Kinsey Institute was an integral part of the University of Indiana, famous the world over for their study of human sexuality. …
It should come as a shock to no one that the vote comes after state lawmakers blocked public funding for the institute. The Kinsey Institute has long been a target for conservative culture warriors, even going back to the organization’s founding in the 1940s. The Kinsey Institute and the research of its founder, Alfred Kinsey, revolutionized the academic fields of sexology and human sexuality, topics that are still considered taboo.
However, the threat of defunding turned into a reality earlier this year after freshman Republican lawmaker Lorissa Sweet rammed through an amendment cutting any state funds from going to the institute. Sweet repeated baseless conspiracy theories that Kinsey researched have been conducting sexual experiments on children. Sweet has continued to falsely accuse the Institute of harboring child predators, a new tactic of the alt-right to demonize the LGBTQ+ community and their allies. …

LGBTQ+ History Month - Alfred Kinsey!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The second instalment of the LGBTQ+ Historic figures for this month is Alfred Kinsey! Sometimes referred to as the father of sexual liberation, his studies, whilst shocking at the time helped launch sexology as an in-depth field of study and helped us gain a better understanding of sex and sexuality in humans! How cool is that?!
Whilst the term 'bisexual' as we know it today wasn't popularised until after Kinsey's death, his biographies and testimonies from his wife and peers confirm the Kinsey had sexual relationships with men and women.
The Kinsey scale helped demonstrate how sexuality is a spectrum and not a strict black and white structure. The scale (which ranged from 0-6) was later adjusted with the addition of 'X' to represent no sexual reactions. Obviously each persons' sexuality is nuanced and unique, and doesn't necessarily need to be condensed into a graph, but Kinsey's initial studies helped break though previously very rigid, heteronormative and conservative beliefs around sex, which is amazing!

Anyone have any thoughts about the defunding of the Kinsey Institute? I know Alfred Kinsey was a horrible guy (like, he legitimately abused children for his "experiments") and people try to cover that up and it's disgusting, but there are also people who argue that Kinsey's legacy of abuse isn't necessarily being continued there and that there's genuinely good research that comes out of the institute.
I feel like I don't have enough background info to really have a solid opinion… Although I definitely don't like that his name is being honored with having an institute named after him. He deserves no honor and whatever good work he might have done (the work that didn't involve abusing kids) could've been done by someone who actually had morals.

Not one of Alfred Kinsey's studies could withstand anywhere close to the amount of scrutiny that has been applied to Andrew Wakefield's 1998 study without being retracted.

I would like to go ahead and wish everybody a very happy Kinsey death day! 67 years ago from today, a man named Alfred Kinsey died. Before dying however he decided to become an advocate for pedophiles and rapists. He actively destroyed women and children's (already fragile) safety because “child rape helps the victim”. That was one of his quotes. Here’s another one, “the difference between a rape and a good time is whether or not her parents were up when she got home.” So fuck you Kinsey, you were a shitty person and you haven’t been dead nearly long enough, you fucking awful human being.
