ANNOUNCEMENT

I’m going to be moving my blog to a new account!

This one will remain up with all of its posts, but it’s url will be changed. The new blog will also go by “allzyfont”, but I’m ultimately going for a fresh start.

I’ll make a notice when the change takes place!

I feel that I have grown and changed a lot since I first made this blog, (with all its current clutter and disorganization.) This ‘restart’ will reflect who I am now as a person and an artist- and best of all, it’ll be for me.

As much as I’ve loved my time on Tumblr, I think that it’s high time for me to turn a new leaf. However, I don’t want to be pushing out things primarily for other people; I do art because that’s what I like to do, and that’s a very personal thing.

Furthermore, I believe that this change will be better for my mental health when it comes to handling social media.

Cheers! ^^/ I’m excited for future art and stories! Have an Avery doodle for now.

I may see you again in the future. For now, though, this blog will remain mostly stagnant.

Out of every one of your characters, which one is your favorite? And why are they your favorite? Do you try and make them a template for the level of detail and development you want them to have or do you try and make every other character completely different?

ough that’s kinda hard,,

I think Avery’s got to be my favorite character because he’s the most fun to draw and write for me (it’s gone to the point where whenever I need to draw a ‘default’ character they’ll look a lot like Avery wbwbwb)

imo he’s really simple but really complex at the same time, and he can be hilarious when the situation calls for it haha

As for your other question, I typically block out the amount of complexity I want of a character from the get-go

Avery’s a protagonist, so we spend a lot of time with him. Naturally, therefore, he should be interesting to be around

Sometimes, I have characters who exist to serve the narrative. Then, it’s a lot like ‘tricking the camera,’ where I’ll allude their complexities specifically where they’re needed without necessarily fleshing the whole character out, ‘cause we won’t see their entire personhood 🤷‍♀️

Characters are fun, but especially for the sake of a narrative, they’re not people— they’re vehicles representing something, whether that is a person or some other establishment— for example, a character could exist to solely embody the relationship between humans and technology. There are cases where a reader doesn’t need to know whether a character prefers Texas Toast, French Toast, or waffles if it isn’t relevant to the narrative.

spent like two hours in a vc trying to unravel a MESS of a 22 story step template just to get all the internal logic straightened out 😭 writing is so hard I never wanna look at a letter again

I have a bad habit of neglecting my blog and I’m determined to at least give it a sliver of the attention it deserves so here are some very early color tests for Variations! I was originally going to do it in full color but I figured I’d save myself some of the pain with limited palettes. However, I did want to use lighting to convey some atmosphere as it’s an aspect of my work I take pride in, and I felt that color was still so important for clarity, as this particular character’s inner life is so dynamic. so really, I saved myself some time, but I didn’t really make things much easier for myself… I have to think hard about color theory when I’m working on pages.

So, between your characters, who would call a grilled cheese with stuff other than cheese in it like meat “grilled cheese” and who calls them “melts” and how does the melt camp tell the grilled cheese camp they’re wrong

this is a very interesting question

for Horsemen, I feel like Sapientiae feels very much like a “melt” person…. He’s just very particular about things

Funnily enough, I think that Katherine would be a “grilled cheese” person because she wouldn’t really care about the difference

I think sap would probably make Katherine a grilled cheese and a melt and ask her which one is objectively better 😭 and build his argument off of that

I’m actually working on a couple stories behind the scenes as we speak,,, a few are much more complex than others. I have like. A stovetop on my brain with a few different burners on it and I rotate stories around, like: one big story, one medium story, and one sandbox story where I have levity to play around

Not the most efficient way of getting things done; it’s easy to get overwhelmed. My resources are being shut off on some of these burners to focus on one or two
