Iuris lies dead in the ground. A god without a heart cannot live, and hers has been thoroughly destroyed. Of course, she wasn't always dead. She lived a long life, one with many titles. The Shining Star, the God of Order, Apotheosis, a corpse in the ground.

Alodia walks up to the grave, shovel in hand. She laid dead once, too. Not just once, of course. This is... which life this is, she's lost track. Perhaps she finally hit the one hundred and fifty mark. After dying twenty times, you tend to lose track of the rest.

Iuris lies dead in the ground. She was slain by a brave party of heroes, ones who wanted to see the sky. A shame, really. She thought she was doing the right thing, she would bring them all to paradise. No use mulling over the past, though. You can't do that when you're dead.

Alodia sighs and hefts the shovel, stabbing it down into the ground and planting a foot on it to push further down. Years ago, she would have had someone else do this for her. A loyal employee, or maybe another one of her clones. She doesn't have any of that anymore. She's dead, after all. Now she just has herself, the last of her magitech, and the grave she has been searching for.

Iuris lies dead in the ground. She didn't know it was inevitable. Why would she? All those stories with heroes and villains, the hero triumphs and restores the world to peace. She just didn't realize that she was not the hero.

Alodia pants with exertion, stopping as her shovel hits something. That's it. That's her. Her fated enemy, the guiding star that had guided her hatred for so long and eventually led to her downfall. She takes a moment to wipe the sweat off her brow, then gets to work unearthing her.

Iuris lies dead. She is in a casket, a form of burial rarely offered to slain gods. Her killers were kind enough to just slay her, and not devour her body like she had done to the god before her. Although most of her followers had perished and many others were in hiding for trying to help her destroy the world, the few who remained had managed to make a convincing plea for allowing her to be buried with dignity.

Alodia drags the casket to her truck, later unloading it at her base. The preparations are all completed, and as she clicks the casket open and sees her enemy's decaying face all she can do is smile. She doesn't believe in soulmates, but if she did... well, that wouldn't matter. Iuris's soul was destroyed, so an artificial one will have to do.

Sirius's eyes flicker open, a new life entering her body as her eyes adjust to Alodia's dim laboratory. She... died? She can remember dying, but everything else is gone. Who is this woman smiling at her, and why does she feel familiar? Sirius shakes her head to try and remember, but the only sensation she gets is the sound of the unfamiliar woman's voice.

"Good morning, starlight. How was your rest?"

I love Larian for not destroying my backstory headcanons. Astarion's guardian appears as his half-elven sister, Alodia. She's long dead by 1492 DR, all but forgotten in the murky horror of his enslavement. The Emperor shows him her form as a reminder of what Cazador took from him and, of course, manipulating a cherished face to get him to consume tadpoles.

Smaugust 2022, Day 27 - Petit Four

Characters: Alodia, Quinlan

Petit Four - Bite-sized for convenience. A single tray contains a large selection, suiting a party as much as a single individual who wants to try a bit of everything.

“Are you alright down there, Quin?”

Quinlan gave a long, affirmative grunt. It was slightly less believable considering they were lying on the floor, an arm resting across their eyes and a medium-sized mammal resting on their stomach. Alodia peered down from where she was sitting on Quinlan’s bed, having been reading a book until she’d spotted her best friend lie down on the floor.

“Tired?” She questioned. From underneath their arm, Quinlan nodded.

“Lil bit.” They mumbled. Alodia put her book down, but remained silent. When something was wrong, it usually took a little longer for Quinlan to put their thoughts together. “I’m a bit stressed out. And…I’m stuck under Mercury.” With their other hand, Quinlan pointed to the animal on their stomach. The Galarian Linoone huffed and squirmed, trying unsuccessfully to lick his trainer’s face. Alodia stifled an amused snort at the display, and crawled and crawled off of Quinlan’s bed. Their bedroom assigned little space to storage, and what shelves there were contained more visual-audio equipment than books. Their computer was set up on a desk to one side; in the swivel chair parked there sat Alodia’s own partner pokemon Dustox, wings folded around itself. It was causing significantly less mischief than Quinlan’s partner.

“Do you want me to go? Or…save you?” Alodia crouched down, reaching to scratch Mercury behind the ears. He butted his head into her hands, but he didn’t seem willing to leave Quinlan.

“No, it’s okay.” Quinlan lifted their arm. They sighed, a deep if shaky breath. “I’ll be fine in a minute. I’m sorry.”

“That’s okay, Quin.” Alodia assured them. The reassurance was gentle, but genuine; she had never been bothered by Quinlan feeling under the weather. She assumed they felt guilty about how regularly it could occur. “Come on buddy.” Alodia tried to scoop Mercury off of Quinlan’s stomach, but he growled and wiggled out of her grip, digging his claws tighter into Quinlan’s sweater. Alodia frowned and put her hands on her hips. He was refusing to find somewhere else to sit.

“Ouch, ouch.” Quinlan winced, lightly grasping Mercury’s paws in an attempt to unhook them.

“Does he do this often?”

“He’s a cuddly boy. He only gets this bad when I’m not feeling well.” Quinlan scratched into Mercury’s wiry fur, avoiding another attempt to lick their face. Realisation dawned on Alodia, watching Mercury hug onto his trainer and refuse to move.

“I think he’s protective of you.” Alodia remarked. At this, Quinlan frowned at Mercury. The look was more contemplative than disagreeing. Finally, Quinlan started to sit up, causing the pokemon to give a disgruntled yip and slip into their lap.

“I’m alright.” Quinlan assured him. Mercury jumped back up at first, but he eventually climbed off of Quinlan onto the carpet. “Thank you, I feel much better now.” Mercury stared at Quinlan for a moment, then huffed and trotted over to Alodia, claiming the scritches she had offered earlier. She conceded, but she was similarly watching Quinlan. They sighed again, rubbing their face.

“Are you alright?” She asked. Quinlan sat there, a slump to their shoulders, but they nonetheless nodded.

“Yeah. I think he helped. Uh, both of you did, of course. I didn’t just mean him.” Quinlan grimaced at themself for their own clunky phrasing before standing up. “Want some dinner?”

“Sure.” Alodia smiled and stood up. She followed Quinlan out of the room. Mercury followed after them both, weaving between their feet.

Smaugust 2022, Day 13 - Moon Cake

Moon cake - Film and tv always make this treat look particularly delicious. Strongly connected to rabbits. Moon cakes are a particular focus point of a movie I enjoy very much.

A flyer was slapped down on the table in front of Quinlan. They looked up from their coffee to Alodia, who was bouncing on the soles of her feet.

“She’s in Ballonlea.” Alodia announced. Quinlan looked at the flyer she had placed down before them; front and centre was a photo of Valerie, the gym leader and professional fashion designer. The ‘wings’ of her dress were folded in front of her mouth, smiling with wide eyes in a look of demure innocence that much resembled that of a deerling found in the woods. Along with the picture, the flyer also contained the details of Valerie’s surprise multi-national tour.

Quinlan used a serviette to wipe their mouth, and then crossed their arms loosely.

“Okay…that seems really last-minute.”

“Come on, Quin.” Alodia groaned, sliding into the metal chair across from them. The canopy attached to the table shaded the both of them from the hot sun, sitting outside of the cafe Quinlan had ordered their coffee from. Alodia dropped her chin into her hand, squishing her cheek into a very convincing pout. “What are the odds that Valerie’s ever going to visit Galar again, while I’m also on vacation here? We have to go.” Quinlan frowned, rubbing the back of their neck. Alodia was their best friend, and they knew how much she loved Valerie’s work. They didn’t want to say no, but…

“I’m on duty for the invitational match in Stow-on-Side this afternoon. She’ll have finished the meet-and-greet by then, right?” Alodia frowned, and Quinlan winced, shrinking in on themself, “Sorry.” Alodia’s head fell to the table with a dramatic thunk. She clutched the flyer in her hands, eyes roaming over its contents. Quinlan felt a severe twinge of guilt, chewing the inside of their cheek. Then, before they could offer another apology, Alodia brightened and shoved the piece of paper in their face again.

“It says she’s still there until the weekend!” She pointed to a list of dates and times, tucked away in smaller print in the lower corner. Standing up, she leant over the table, palms pressed against the surface. Quinlan moved their coffee off the table to avoid a spillage, watching Alodia as she wiggled her shoulders. “We could go tomorrow. Take a tour through the ruins on the way there, do some shopping. It could be a whole day-trip!” Quinlan frowned again. Alodia was staring at him with those big wide eyes, full of desire for an adventure. It was downright dangerous sometimes, the trouble she could drag them into.

“I don’t know.” Quinlan muttered. Their hands were clasped around their coffee cup, lingering heat warm and comforting through the porcelain.

“Please.” Alodia stepped around the metal table, getting closer to Quinlan. She paused, and then added, “We could hike through the forest on the way to Ballonlea. I know how much you like camping there.” Quinlan stifled a groan, averting their gaze from Alodia’s pleading eyes.

“Alright.” They agreed. Alodia cheered, throwing her arms up and doing a little dance around the table. Quinlan smiled, more at themself for how easily she’d managed to break them. That didn’t mean they’d let her get away with the victory party she was currently throwing, though.

“Are you going to ask Valerie for her number while you’re there?” Quinlan questioned, head turning to Alodia. Their voice remained even, sounding completely curious. Alodia froze mid-step, and colour rose on her face.

“Shut up!” She told them, light-heartedly smacking their shoulder. Quinlan laughed, which roused a giggle out of Alodia as well. Alodia might have been especially talented at twisting Quinlan’s arm, but there was no-one else who did a better job of bringing Quinlan out of their shell.

sudan’s mom is Alodia, one of the three kingdoms to arise after the fall of the Kingdom of Kush. she was the furthest south of her sisters, and maintained somewhat cordial ties with her sister Makuria and Ethiopia. She was known as the calm and easy-going one of out the three sisters, in comparison to the more ambitious Makuria and high-strung Nobatia.

Despite this, she had a volatile relationship with her son, Sudan, and would later die because of his rise 😢
