"SEE, THIS AIN'T AMERICA'S MOST WANTED, THIS IS AMERICA'S MOST MACKIN'!"
PIC(S) INFO: Mega spotlight on American hip-hop group, BEASTIE BOYS, walking down Franklin Ave., Los Angeles (Hollywood), CA, from the B. Boys' "Check Your Head" photo-session, c. 1991. 📸: Glen E. Friedman.
OVERVIEW: "We met up by the Capitol Records building and eventually ended up in a beach parking lot in Santa Monica. Same lot you would have parked in if you had a car and were going to Arthur Lake's parents home in ‘76 to skate their pool. Pictures from this day ended up on the cover of "CHECK YOUR HEAD" and on various other merchandise the boys put out.
This is one of my FAVORITES from the day.
Hearing this album in the studio with them for the first time while they were working on the sequencing is what inspired me to ask them to do the photo session. They already had the LP cover done I was told, but that was fine by me, once I faxed them some of these they changed direction and threw a Fax on the cover of the LP. On the cassette and later CD they used the actual photograph. Inspired, conquered. Great day, amazing work. They also met AWOL for the first time this day, since i asked him if he'd mind hauling us around in his van and hang out."

New Audio: Angry Blackmen Team up with Fatboi Sharif on Brooding and Nihilistic "Dead Men Tell No Lies" @ANGRYBLACKMEN_ @deathbombarc @pitchperfect @fatboyprospect
Chicago-based hip-hop duo Angry Blackmen — Quentin Branch and Brian Warren — features members, who individually spent their time stretching their creative arms and tapping into different sounds for a couple of years, before Warren suggested that they collaborate together as a duo towards the end of 2016.  Branch and Warren exploded into the underground and experimental hip-hop scenes with their…

THE KING AD-ROCK -- STILL KING OF THE NAME-DROPS IN '90s HIP-HOP.
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on a promo Ad-Rock poster of the BEASTIE BOYS, from the September 1998 issue of "Spin" Magazine. Also featured here are late, greats dub reggae icon Lee "Scratch" Perry (✝) and American underground cartoonist Vaughn Bodē (✝). God rest them both.
[Ad-Rock]
"Well, I'm like Lee Perry, I'm very on Rock the microphone, and then I'm gone I'm like Vaughn Bodē, I'm a Cheech Wizard, Never quittin', so won't you listen!"

Flying Lotus - Cosmogramma
I was drawn in by the album cover when I first saw this scrolling through Spotify, looking for anything new to listen to. I had no idea what I was in for when I started "Clock Catcher". A psychedelic experience immediately hooked me in with jazzy drums, glitched-out off-kilter sounds, and dreamy productions, which culminated in the final breaths of the ethereal yet wistful final track. Listening to this album for the first time truly felt transcendental.
Favourites:

Pickled!
Zodiac Shit
Computer Face//Pure Being
...And The World Laughs With You

Tommy Evans links with The Cat Burglar to drop new album ‘Van Goth’
UK Hip Hop legend Tommy Evans digs deep on atmospheric new album ‘Van Goth’ with producer The Cat Burglar
Prolific UK Hip Hop legend and activist Tommy Evans brings us his highly anticipated new LP ‘Van Goth,’ beautifully produced by The Cat Burglar. Having previously collaborated with icons including Neneh Cherry, Martina Topley-Bird, Stereo MCs, Nightmares On Wax, Andreya Triana, Larry Peace (Prince’s DJ), Foreign Beggars, Nutty P, Doc Brown and Shaolinn (Pusha T/Heirwave), Tommy Evans presents a collection of songs that display his full range of artistry, lyricism and commentary.
“The Cat Burglar reached out to me via IG in April 2020. Lockdown had just started. By July of that same year we had a whole album recorded! I work quickly and our socially distanced (as was the new norm at the time) weekly sessions in the safe space of James’ (The Cat Burglar) Wandsworth studio proved to be a welcome respite from the pressures of the pandemic. What I loved about James’ sound is how textured it was, his atmospheric beats informed by a creative background dabbling in multiple genres and disciplines; the perfect soundscape for me to skate across! So, three years later, back to life and reality (to paraphrase Soul 2 Soul) the album is here! A slightly darker affair in comparison to my signature soulful sound - hence the title Van Goth (an adaptation of the final poem in my collection published in 2018) - but still replete with moments of hope, jokes and joy amidst the abstract lyricism, socio-political commentary and deep reflection. Enjoy!“ — Tommy Evans

THE B. BOYS WERE MY NEIGHBORS IN THE '90s, AND NO ONE EVER TOLD ME.
NOTE: ^I used to live in neighboring Los Feliz for most of the nineties, but I was just a kid at the time with absolutely zero interest in hip-hop music.

New Audio: ZHU's Grimy Club Banging Remix of Genesis Owusu's "Get Inspired"
New Audio: ZHU's Grimy Club Banging Remix of Genesis Owusu's "Get Inspired" @HouseAnxiety @grandstandhq @shazi_la @genesisowusu @awal ZHUmusic
Over the past couple of years, I’ve spilled quite a bit of virtual ink covering the acclaimed and rapidly rising Ghanian-born, Canberra-based JOVM mainstay Genesis Owusu. With the release of his debut EP, 2017’s Cardrive, Owusu — born Kofi Owusu-Anash — quickly established a reptuation for being a restless, genre-blurring chameleon, whose work is rooted in powerful and deeply personal…
