He was so very wrong
And here we go! Another fic requested by Cakey876876 over on AO3! I hope you enjoy your request turned fic and let us jump right into it!
Adrien was sick and tired of Ladybug rejecting him and ignoring him, no matter what he did she was never happy with anything! He does everything he can during akuma battles but the real problem is Ladybug's terrible plans! They aren't detailed enough so he doesn't get hurt or anything! He has tried to explain things to her but she won't listen at all to a single word he says... This results in them needing to recharge and then go back into battle to win... And when they win she still blames him for not doing better!
What he doesn't realize is that he is so focused on the way she looks... that he doesn't hear the important parts of her plan... Thus resulting in things not happening as planned and making them need to make a new plan.
What was even worse in all of this? Ladybug still rejecting him no matter what he tries to do to make her happy... She is always angry at him for something! If he compliments her (flirts) she's angry at him! If he get's a little upset (tantrum) she's angry with him! And it doesn't happen all that often (it actually happens at every akuma battle they have) it just get's on his nerves that she won't explain her feelings at all with all of this or tell him anything!
Then one day comes a strong akuma and it's a bad one, his dear Lady had a plan (that he didn't focus on listening to and as a result only heard parts of it) but due to it not being clear he was injured and had to recharge Plagg while Ladybug fought with the akuma, she then had to recharge and complained about him being late which he explained he didn't mean to but he was busy as a civilian... With a photoshoot... With Lila who made it longer than planned. She was complaining most of the time about something and as a result he came later then he had hoped to help with the akuma, once they defeated the akuma she screamed at him about him screwing things up by not following the plan, she explained that if he had listened to her and followed the plan the akuma would have been taken care of by now.
But he didn't and as a result it took longer to defeat...
This caused him to snap and put the blame on her terrible plan that he pointed out he had followed to the letter like he always did... But due to them being terrible it always took them longer to take down the akuma's, this shocked Ladybug but before she could even say anything to him her partner left to get back home to his room. He didn't want to hear her out or anything, he simply want to move on and forget this akuma battle ever happened in the first place so he could calm down, he just so tired of her screaming at him about it always being his fault when it never was... Ladybug was at fault for her horrible plans that she tells him to follow in the end without a care in the world about how hard he tries to help her.
Sadly... His little wish to forget would not be granted at all... You see while he and Ladybug were fighting and even before that... They had a spectator... Ladyblogger Alya Cesaire had seen, heard and filmed everything, the akuma battle, Ladybug telling Cat Noir her plan, Cat Noir not listening to the entire plan and as a result only did parts of it and then the fight they had about the plan not being done correctly. This greatly angered Alya because well... How dare Cat Noir blame Ladybug when it was his fault in the end! What was more important to get his attention then to listen to the plan!? Alya didn't know and couldn't care less right now... She had work to do for her blog and she would not fail to release her work, Once she was home and in her room she transferred the footage to her computer and began to edit it and record herself pointing out what Cat Noir did wrong and questioning if he really was to be a trusted hero of Paris.
She added about how she began to fear for her safety if he was the only one fighting and felt like he might abandon them to Hawkmoth if given the choice. She ended the video with asking her viewers to vote if they agreed with her that Cat Noir should be retired and replaced by force with someone else to protect them. Once done she looked over the work she made, edited a few more things and then uploaded the video to her blog... Sadly she was still a little upset and hoped that talking to her bestie Marinette would help cheer her up a little bit while the video was being uploaded, she of course didn't tell Mari about it but hoped she would agree with her once she saw the video later on.
Once up though... It went wild with the people of Paris, so many were shocked and disgusted with Cat Noir and his behaviour, some even added video's or pictures of what they saw him do sometimes during an akuma battle... some of them were even when there wasn't an akuma battle! It made everyone hate him in an instant and everyone voted for Cat Noir to be retired... Some even commented about being ready to help take the ring from him if needed. Even the class saw the video and they agreed he was disgusting, when Marinette saw the video, Tikki told her that it was for the best he get's retired as soon as possible because he would only get worse overtime.
The next day, Adrien still hadn't seen the video... But he did hear people talking about it... This of course soured his mood in wanting to forget the battle when he so badly wanted to be happy today, he had already started the day well as he was able to have breakfast with his dad for the first time in years! When he arrived at school, Alya's latest post was what everyone spoke about, he could only hear insults about himself when transformed and it slowly made him angry the more he heard about it, his only moment of peace and quiet was when he put his things into his locker as no one was there at the moment which helped to calm him down for a little while... but he had a bad feeling about when he get's to his classroom as he was certain that everyone would talk about Alya's video.
And he was sadly right, the second he walked in he could only hear everyone asking questions about how Cat Noir even got his miraculous and some of them believed he stole it from the original holder, he sat down at his seat as the class asked Alya some questions when she spoke "I actually got contacted this morning through my blog... Turns out there were people who filmed from different angles Ladybug telling Cat Noir her plan and him looking like he was in his own little world... They were all certain that it was the reason when her plan didn't work in the first place" she explained to them which made the class look disgusted at the info.
Adrien however... He lost it on them, screamed about how they were all wrong to blame Cat Noir as it was actually all Ladybug's fault, he told them that it had always been her fault but because everyone looked up to her they were all blaming innocent Cat Noir for something he didn't do in the first place. When Adrien stopped shouting and realized what he did, he had hoped they would all agree with him... That Alya would take down her post and apologize for the misunderstanding on her part... But they didn't, instead they all jumped on him... they all defended Ladybug and told him how wrong he was, Adrien tried to look for someone to help him... He then saw Mari being the only one who wasn't defending Ladybug, he hoped she would agree with him... But she simply ignored the whole thing that was happening in class right now.
He couldn't believe her... Marinette Dupain-Cheng... There everyday Ladybug... wasn't helping him defend who was when transformed... He didn't understand why she was doing this in the first place since she was always so sweet and always defended them when she believed them to be right... So why... Why wasn't she coming to his side to defend Cat Noir when he needed someone on his side right now? The class was so cruel to him... Even Lila who lies about everything was agreeing with the class about Cat Noir being horrible... Some of the things she was saying were the worse as she claimed that he might even try to harm Ladybug one day and that made him to scream back at her that she was wrong and a liar... But instead and just snapped at them "Your all wrong! None of you even want to hear him out! You only care for your sweet Ladybug who can fix everything because she can do no wrong!" he screamed at them.
At that moment... Marinette stood up from her seat and moved to join them... Adrien was silent the whole time as she moved to there side... And then she spoke the words that truly made him snap "You need to stop and open your eyes Adrien Agreste. Cat Noir is dangerous and a threat to our lives. The longer he is allowed to wear his miraculous the closer we are to being hurt because of him... At the end of the day... If he would have just accepted the very first rejection he got from Ladybug when he told her his feelings towards her... This wouldn't be happening to him right now" she had said and after that... There was only silence and darkness for Adrien.
At least... For a moment in his eyes... But in reality... It was more than that...
When he came to his senses, Adrien discovered himself pinned to the ground by Kim and Ivan, some of the students had left the classroom while the rest... protected a bloody and terrified Marinette. Adrien was so very confused on what happened but no one would tell him what happened in the first place so he was left confused until his father arrived and they were brought to Damocles who told them everything... Adrien had viciously attacked Marinette... Tearing her clothes, punching her, cutting her... he had even torn out some of her hair to his shock... This resulted in his expulsion from the school as he was a threat to the students with his outburst that happened in class, he tried to defend himself but his father ordered him to follow Nathalie to collect his things and to wait for him in the car.
When Adrien walked out of the office... He watched his things being chucked to his feet by Nino and Alya... Both of them looked so angry "Mari isn't talking at all because of you Agreste... You better hope she isn't mentally scarred by this incident" Alya said before storming away with Nino right behind her... He then saw Lila walking up the stairs... And she smirked at him in a way that told him she won in some way with what he just did to Mari, he felt terrible about what he did to her... So he turned to Nathalie "Please! Help me talk to Mari and explain myself! I'm sure if I could just talk to her for a moment she will side with him and make this all go away!" he said to her... But Nathalie shook her head towards him "Marinette isn't hear at the moment... Her parents took her to the hospital and will be taking her somewhere safe from you as they were certain you would try to go talk to her at the bakery" she explained before pushing him a little forward to make him move.
He was silent all the way to the car... He looked over to the bakery but saw the lights were off, he went to grab his phone but Nathalie took it from him without saying a single word to him about why she was taking it from him... When his father returned... He looked furious "How could you do this to me Adrien!? Do you know how bad this will be for the brand!? Stocks will fall for possibly more than a few months once the public finds out! What's worse is while I tried to have you stay at the school I had to listen to each parent of your classmate get told what you did and demand you get expelled! Now I will have to place you back into being homeschooled for who knows how long until I can find you another school to accept you!" he said making Adrien look down in shame.
His father was extremely disappointed with him right now... He was certain that this would last for some time... and he was right because the moment they returned home... His father only spoke to Nathalie and ordered him through her, he went to his room where he laid in his bed feeling terrible about what just happened, he goes to his computer to try and contact the class to try and explain himself... only to discovered he didn't have a connection to the internet at all right now, Nathalie then walked in and explained that he wouldn't have his phone or access to the internet for a while as this would be his punishment, Adrien to beg her to let him to at least talk to Nino to then explain himself but she refused and walked out of his room... Leaving him to feel terrible with how wrong things went today.
Time went by and soon a month had gone by since he was expelled for what he did to Mari, the media didn't find out to his relief which gave him back his phone and access to the internet but... He wasn't allowed to contact the class, he hated this but he had to listen to what he was told for now and hope for the best soon, thanks to being able to go back online, he opened a fake social media account to look at what the class was doing right now, it was there he discovered Mari now had her hair down and had changed her outfit, the class would comment about her being cute and to his shock Chloe would ask to meet with her to make a commission making Mari agree... Even Lila compliments her outfits!
Lila had quit as a model for the Agreste brand, she claimed that with what Adrien did to Mari over what Cat Noir was doing... She feared that if during a photoshoot she said something wrong he would attack her in the same way, Gabriel of course tried to make her stay by offering her a bigger pay but she declined and left... and soon began to work for Mari who opened her own online store, she had made a goal bar that explained that every purchase and donation would help her into one day opening her first store... Resulting in her reaching her goal within the hour of opening the site... Due to a massive donation made by Chloe of course.
He hopes to be able to go out before the opening day of Mari's store... That way he can be there when it opens and maybe talk to Mari about what happened, but for now all he could do is wait and hope for the best for him while he thinks about what he would say to apologize to the class for what happened in class over Cat Noir with the hopes of being able to go back to them and be friends again at long last... He also needed Nino again so he could complain to him about his father... Gabriel wasn't speaking to him still and he really needed to talk to someone.
The worst part was when he would go out as Cat Noir... Everyone would shout at him and throw things at him while telling him to hand back his miraculous to Ladybug... this would result in him returning to his room while Ladybug quickly takes down the akuma with the help of a temporary holder... and Cat Noir not being there at all, it made him even more upset as he wished Ladybug would just accept to go on one simple date with him so she could see that they were meant to be together in the end. He sighed as he soon drifted to sleep... Without noticing Ladybug enter his room, walk over to his bed, gently take the hand that wore the ring and slip it off of him before leaving his room.
The next day, Adrien freaked out when he couldn't find his ring anymore, he looked everywhere he could think of in his room for it but it wasn't there at all... He thought about asking Nathalie but decided against it as he didn't want her to discover that it was one of the miraculous that Hawkmoth is looking for... He sighed and turned his TV on to discover a new akuma... And a new black cat working with Ladybug... The new holder had black and green hair and his look was more detailed with items to help during a fight then his own outfit when he transforms into Cat Noir... It broke his heart to see them working so well together against the akuma and taking it down faster then he would have when working with Ladybug.
Adrien then understood that he was so very wrong about everything being Ladybug's fault... When really it had ALWAYS been his fault...

Betterfly/Hesperia - In a relationship
Tumblr media
warning : fluff, angst, hurt/comfort
Info : So maybe I have a little obsession with this man and the special so yeah have fun reading ;)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
°Loving and gentle
°Gabriel loves you everywhere and even if it was difficult for him to start a relationship again, he knew that Emelie would do the same. He knew that in such a cruel world, besides hope, there would always be love.
°A love that he found in you. He had never given up hope and when he met you for the first time by chance while buying fabric, he couldn't help but ask you politely to let him get to know you better.
°A gesture of gentleness that his partner accepted and the two went on the first meetings together. He was fascinated and completely in love with her cheerful and hopeful nature. While she simply fell for the gentle and polite Agreste.
°A couple that formed after a few weeks and Gabriel found himself more and more often transformed into Betterfly or Hesperia. The superhero with his helpers Alya and Nino came more and more often past their house. He was afraid that Shadybug and Clawnoir could do something to her.
°,,I know Betterfly is always watching over the city...it may sound strange but-but I'm grateful to him for doing all this" she had told him one day when they were sitting together in a cafe and he almost choked on his tea. It had touched his heart to know that he made her feel safe and that she was grateful to him. He carefully put his hand on hers and said, ,,I'm sure he's just as happy to protect the city and its people, especially you, my heart," before giving her a gentle kiss.
°But eventually his secret would come out and Shadybug would know who the heart of her enemy belonged to. A mistake. Betterfly would do anything to get his heart back with the help of his friends and comrades. A deed that at the end of the day led him to turn back in front of her.
°He was afraid that she would get angry and leave him. Instead, tears of fear and relief flowed down her cheeks before she fell into his arms. He himself felt the fear leave him as he realized that she did not hate him, still loved him no matter what.
°But since that incident, since they were in each other's arms, he left kisses and more kisses on her while she pulled him close. Since then, the relationship was less riddled with fear and trust issues. She was full of hope and trust while helping him as much as she could with his tasks. When he was not saving the city from evil, she helped him with new designs.
°Took over the work of communicating between the boutigen and publishers. Until one day she asked him if she could help him save the city from the two villains. A fact that he knew would come sooner or later. But after several times of talking his fear and her courage and hope, he allowed it.
°With his power he transformed her and the two fought together. A team full of love and hope which won more and more victories against Shadybug and Clawnoir. But when they were not fighting together against the evil, the two of them kept together. She moved in with him, there was more than enough room in the big apartment.
°While Nathalie was happy for him, it was Adrien who had a problem with the whole thing. He held on to his mother, held on to his parents' relationship and couldn't stand his father's new love. Gabriel's love tried, but she also understood that it was difficult for her son.
°Gabriel took her in his arms, kissed away her worries and filled them with hope. They cuddled at night and she was always by his side when he should give up hope. A simple kiss seemed to be enough to make the other happy again. And tried to be a family cooked and ate together. Trips and even model pictures together....to Adrien's sorrow.
°The two of them together complemented each other and in this hopeful cruel world they had a chance to save it. Through their love.
Hi! I really love you work! I just finished Tree in Bloom on AO3, it’s so cute, I can’t wait to see where the relationship between strife and the human takes them! I was reading though your fics about taking the horsemen’s horses for a joy ride and was wondering if you could do something similar for Strife and Mayhem where we/the human takes mayhem on a little joy ride? Thank you!! 💖
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Author’s note: Are we connected? lol but no joke, I’ve had this idea for a bit since someone on Ao3 was also interested in this idea, but I never went full ham on it since I had some other projects take precedence. But hey, here it is! Time to steal Strife’s ride too.
Also I'm glad you like tree in bloom so far! Your comment will fuel me for the next week while i finish blocking out the next chapter. I have a pretty decent idea on where to take it, but I won't say I'm not flying by the seat of my pants lol
Relationships: Strife/Fem!Reader
Warnings: None, unless you consider horseback riding and brief mentions of weaponry worth warning about
Tumblr media
“Don’t wander off too far~”
You can’t help but sarcastically mimic the Horsemen, as you kick around small rocks and pebbles that are unfortunate enough to come into the path of your worn old boots.
You wouldn't have had to wander off, if this whole day hadn't been so tediously fucking boring.
The Makers are some of the only beings alive who can even attempt to fiddle with Nephilim weaponry, and even then, they still have trouble. Lots of it, apparently; As what sounds on paper like a quick fix, had turned into an all day affair.
It’s a lost art, sadly. But Alya and Valus are willing to try, which is more than enough considering the circumstances. Even if Strife tries to maintain an attitude of eternal nonchalance about Nephilim relics, even he can't deny the importance of safe guarding them from being used; At minimum, if his sentiment on the matter is long gone.
Not for their lack of trying, fixing the weapon seems to be taking quite along while however, as you’ve long since wandered out of the Tri-Forge. You've since taken to wandering the wooded paths surrounding, while you wait for Strife to have the knife finally returned to him. He refuses to let it out of his sight, so he stays. He says Death would throttle him all the way to Hell if he lost it.
At least the Maker’s realm is so pretty.
If you look high and far off in the distance, you think you can see the Tri-Forge, but it’s hard to tell. Maybe if you started walking, you could make it there before it got too dark. Probably what you should do in all honesty, but the temptation of spending some more quiet time out here is to strong for you to actually make any effort to move.
This patch of soft grass has become your pleasant little spot, brushing it with your palms as you breath in the woodsy scents of the forest.
Suddenly, a rustle in the woods makes you perk up from where you’re sitting on the ground. You're hand instantly reaches for your hip, while your eyes scan the surrounding area for the source of the movement. It couldn't have been too far away.
You have your knife, but not much else. Most of the aggressive wildlife in the forests around the Tri-Forge only come out at night, or they’ve been pushed far back now that the Makers have a better hold on the realm. Either way, you aren't exactly interesting in having a tussle with anything that might try to start one with you.
Thankfully however, it isn’t an angry creature looking for a meal.
“Mayhem?”
The ghostly looking horse is standing about two meters away as he breaches a set of closely knit together trees, curiously looking at you. His hooves are muffled by the dirt as he walks closer, staring dead at you during the entire approach.
“Something didn’t happen, did it?” The horse looks at you, black eyes staring; Before then giving one indignant snort that is powerful enough to shake his head.
“Guess not.”
Looking away from the horse your watch your feet, tapping the ground with a toe as the grass bends beneath it. As you do you suddenly see a front hoof enter your vision, having to move said foot to avoid it being accidentally stepped on. Shortly there after you can feel the harsh snort of hair blow your hair around, as his head comes even closer to you.
He’s curious, looking around and watching the way you seem bored. For a moment his upper lip just barely brushes the top of your head, before he moves his head lower to your front.
“Hey, gentle.”
His snout presses into your stomach, making it easy for your arms to wrap around his large head. You do so loosely, before putting your cheek to the top of his head in a gentle hug. You're surprised he let you, honestly. His fur is warm in the few areas where you can feel it, while the rest is covered by armor. When he pulls back, you shake your head of at him.
“You are a strange horse.”
Strange but, nice. Over time you’ve found yourself becoming less scared of him like you had been on first sight. Mayhem is intimidating on first glance, but soft on the inside. Much like his rider.
After giving you a curious sniff Mayhem takes a few steps sideways, getting enough space between the two of you that he can safely pivot, pawing at the ground a few times while you watch.
Gently he gets down on one front hock, and then the other, before he then flops onto his side with an ungraceful ‘thud’. He’s now laying down and looking right at you, nostrils flaring as he lets out a harsh breath while his legs are curled inward. He looks remarkably comfortable like that, laying in the grass and crushing a few flowers underneath his weight. A few manage to avoid that unfortunate fate, and stay upwards brushing against his legs or belly.
Mayhem at first was incredibly finicky and distrusting of you- much like his rider in some ways, but it seems over time he’s gradually opened up. As such he doesn’t much mind when you get up to move and sit down beside him, right in front of his chest, putting your back against it. His neck brushes against your right arm while looking at you.
“He’ll be done eventually, I hope. I can feel myself aging.”
Mayhem gives an uncaring blow of his lips, much like a raspberry, in response. Your fingers absentmindedly play with the fabric of your pants, trying to find something to occupy your mind as you relax. The ghostly horse meanwhile just watches, his armor pieces clinking against each other whenever he does any significant adjustment of his body.
You reach up and feel at the soft fur behind his ear, eyes hooded, feeling it flick in your hand. He doesn't move away from it, and if anything, drops his head a bit lower so you can get a better reach until the hand pull away. You scoot your body downward ever so slightly, now leaning onto the horse a little bit more than before.
“Shouldn’t be much longer,” You hope.
Tumblr media
Suddenly jerking upright, your muscles are tight at being moved so quick, eyes still blurry as you yawn and look around.
Shit, you’d fallen asleep.
The sky is now turning a pretty orange, but it still isn’t quite dark yet.
Meanwhile Mayhem whinnies at your sudden movement, having been startled but not enough so to move. Guess he didn’t mind being a pillow for awhile, if at no point did he decide to get up. If anything, he seemed to have gotten a bit of a nap in himself. Or whatever the ghostly, distinctly un-horse-like creature equivalent is.
That also meant at no point had Strife called for his steed, which does manage to worry you slightly. Then again, it probably just means that damn weapon is taking even more time that had been originally thought.
Maybe you should head back to the Tri-Forge, especially now that it’s getting dark. Even if the woods are wonderful, it still might not be the brightest idea to stick around them when you have no source of light.
Still a little stiff from sleep you groan as you pull away from Mayhem, slowly getting to your feet. Given his stature it takes Mayhem a moment longer to do the same, but it’s not long after you that he’s all the way upright. He gives himself one good shake, rattling all his armor and letting out a loud snort.
Mayhem is perhaps the most lithe of the Horsemen’s steeds, though it’s not to say the horse is of smaller size by any means. He still towers over you more than almost any normal horse could dream of.
He's also your best chance at getting back to Strife before it's pitch dark, and you'll only have the moon to light your way. Not nearly enough light, by your human standards.
“The forge is a decent walk away,” You’ve ridden Mayhem before, but never without Strife, so you know this might be a bit of a tough sell.
“Mind giving me a ride?”
Cold eyes stare you down- but he didn’t recoil in disgust, or anything similar. Then again, can he even really understand what you're asking of him?
Stepping closer you grab the side of the saddle and attempt to hop on, but end up coming quite a bit short. Getting quite quickly keen on what you’re trying to do Mayhem bends his front legs before laying back down, putting his back low enough for you to throw a leg over and hop on.
Good to know you don't need Strife for a boost, if he insists on being an ass about it again.
“Thanks for the assist.” The horse whinnies.
He also begins moving much to your surprise, though he already has the right direction in mind.
Your feet sort of dangle uselessly close to the stirrups, unable to actually put any weight on them. They were adjusted for someone with quite a bit of height on you, after all. Though at least the saddle itself is comfortable, with a comfortable curve meant for long hours of sitting and stability. The reins in your hand stay loose and floppy, unused, as Mayhem just seems to be going where ever you’re looking anyways.
It’s getting pretty dark now; The sky is now a deep orange fading into purple, with rays of light drastically retracting themselves from the scenery. With it getting so dim you decide to pick up the pace a little bit, sending Mayhem into a light run.
It’s wild; Having to hold on so tight without Strife here to be a brace against your back, but it’s invigorating, for sure. And Mayhem is being quite the good soul, not throwing you off to leave you in the dust. He could've quite easily done so at any point, especially since when you two first met, the horse was distinctly not fond of you.
“We’re here!”
Slowing back down to a walk you reach the front of the Tri-Forge in nowhere near record time, but you at least beat the sunset; Which was the main goal. Doing it fast was just a bonus.
As cobblestones slowly peek up more and more frequently between tufts of grass you move closer, listening out for anything familiar. The sound of hooves on the paving stones is such a nice sound, gentle and even paced as you enter. You could maybe get used to riding a horse everywhere, if it was always this peaceful.
Knocking you out of your thoughts however Valus suddenly stops you, and with quite the look, too. Not that you can blame exactly blame him. He's always been the Maker that seems to have it out for you- but in a overprotectively caring sort of way.
“And uh, what are you doin’ there lass?”
You glance from side to side for a moment before responding.
“Looking for Strife? He’s been gone awhile and it was getting dark, so I decided to head back.”
You speak about the Horseman with such familiarity, more so than any of the other three. He sighs, watching you intently.
“He's by the inner forge with Alya. Givin' her quite the stare down as she fixes that nasty ol' dagger for him.”
Nasty more so in the sense that it's apparently an old weapon of mass destruction, than dirty.
At least you assume mass; You don't know any of the details, as Strife unsurprisingly beat around them when you inquired. He still has some problems telling you about the Nephilim.
You smile at Valus, wide enough to nearly show teeth. Feeling Mayhem shift underneath you, you decide to sit up straight and keep moving.
He says one more thing, however.
“Be careful, lass.”
You don’t know what Valus sees in Strife that you don’t; But then again, he could say the same sort of thing right back at you. You know that the Makers don’t have a fond view of the remaining Nephilim, and while you might be understanding, you’ve been too close to Strife to even think ill of him. Or any of his siblings, for that matter.
Riding forwards you pass Valus and don’t look back out of just a little bit of nervousness, and seeing Alya indeed working at the forge. You see Strife once you get close enough that one of the pillars no longer obscures him, and you call out his name and hope to catch his attention.
“Strife?”
You can see his back is turned, but he noticeably perks up the moment he hears his name. Quickly taking the knife from the Maker he moves away, down the half flight of steps right towards you and his horse.
He tries to hold back the look of surprise when he sees you sitting astride Mayhem, but you still manage to notice the way his eyes widen behind his mask.
“Hey gorgeous,”
He comes closer, slotting the dagger safely back into the the sheathe he has on his hip for it. Heavy boots hit on the cobblestone paths as he crosses his arms, hip cocked slightly out to one side.
“So uh,” Strife takes a look at Mayhem, who has his head held low and relaxed. His ear twitches as he hears his rider speak, eyes moving to look towards the Horsemen. “He just let you get on, huh?”
You nod. “Yeah." Your face suddenly becomes a bit more unsure. "Why, was he not supposed to let me?”
Strife shakes his head and laughs you off.
“Nah, you’re fine. I was just surprised you managed to even get in the saddle, that’s all.”
Insulting your shorter stature than his own manages to sway your attention for just a moment, and he can look over the scene.
The amount of times you've ridden on Mayhem with him has made you significantly more comfortable around him that you had when you'd first met, as your legs dangle comfortably, arms at your sides. Mayhem rests as well, body loose as he waits for something interesting to happen.
Creators, she’s even got my horse wrapped around her finger. I’m fucked.
Stepping closer he grabs along the front of the saddle, before using his other hand to hit your hip softly.
“Let me on, will ya?”
It’s not like you have any issue with him taking his horse back, grasping the saddlehorn and sticking boot in the stirrup, the weight of him putting pressure on it leaning the saddle towards him. Once he finally seats himself behind you however he puts his hands on your legs, rather than taking the reins from you.
“Well now that you got here, how about you let me have a break for a second? Not like Death'll notice me being a few minutes late.”
Of course he’ll take the opportunity to be lazy; Not that you blame him, his lot in life doesn’t exactly leave many opportunities.
You gently move Mayhem forward, walking out the same way you entered as Strife lazily lays against you. He’s massively overdoing it and with how ungodly heavy he is, especially in his full armor, and it’s hard to not just crumble forward. The chin of his armor rests on the top of your head, and he feels content as can be.
Once you’re out of the Tri-Forge and back out into open land you still keep moving with no clear destination in mind; Strife hasn’t given you one, so you largely just steer towards whatever catches your interest.
Before you have a chance to reach any of those interesting points however, Strife gently grasps the reins with one hand for caution, while then talking close to your ear.
“Now, wanna try going for a real ride?”
You barely have a chance to answer Strife gives Mayhem a good kick to send him barreling forward, forcing you to hold onto the reins for dear life. Strife's right here however, and even going so fast nothing would even happen with him and Mayhem both looking out for you.
So he watches you in front of him as you learn on the fly, even if he’s helping to tell Mayhem when to turn with pressure from his legs.
You’re laughing like mad and the wind’s blowing in your hair, even on a horse meant to bring suffering and unrest to anyone who catches even a glimpse.
Strife had thought he was fucked before, but now he realizes he really is; Holding onto you tight so you’ll never leave his vision.
First Sentence, Then Scene: “I know your secret.” Lila said as she pinned Marinette to the wall.
Just a lil warning that I touch on anxiety and dealing with that... emotional feedback (I guess you could call it?) of being in a high intensity situation with your bully/source of anxiety.
~/~
'I know your secret,' Lila said as she pinned Marinette to the wall. Marinette wriggled, but Lila's grasp didn't budge.
'What secret?' Marinette asked, still trying to loosen Lila's grip. 'I don't have any secrets.' Lila tsked, shaking her head in mock disappointment before smirking up at her with a devious glint in her eyes. 'Playing innocent, I see...'
The Italian's tone sent shivers up Marinette's spine, but made sure she gave no indication of how the girl's words affected her.
'The only one "playing innocent" here is you,' Marinette spat. 'Everyone thinks you're so kind and sweet, but you're like the devil in disguise.'
'Hah! You flatter me,' Lila purred, 'but I am not the Devil- well, not yet, anyway.'
Marinette's eyes narrowed.
'See, the problem with you angelic types is that you're too honest for your own good,' Lila said, voice heavy with faux concern that made Marinette want to grind her teeth. 'Too kind, too generous, too self-sacrificing. You would do anything for a friend, and expect nothing in return.'
This was pressing on all of Marinette's buttons. She knew what the true purpose was of these words, and yet-
'And that is why you'll always lose to someone like me,' Lila finished with a devilish grin.
'You know what your problem is?' Marinette snapped. 'That attitude. Those lies. I know you can't help it, you're born this way, but the thing is you could be so much more than this.'
She couldn't help but take satisfaction in the way Lila's eyes widened ever so subtly.
'You have an incredible talent, and an even more incredible mind - you could be truly amazing if you wanted to be, but you don't, so you're not. You lie, you cheat, you play these twisted games, wasting your time and energy on things and people that do not matter to you - and for what? To get me down? To hurt me? We both know that you're targeting me with all this, for some minor disagreement long-since forgotten- which, let's be honest, doesn't justify all that you've done since then. I've tried to make amends, to help you, to do what I can to build bridges, but you burn them every time, turning away any offers I made so that you could keep that flame burning within you. You think that everything that makes me who I am makes me weak to the likes of you, but in reality-' Marinette forced her hands free from Lila's weakened grip, '-that's why you'll never win against someone like me.'
'Aaaand cut!' Nino cried, leaping out of his director's chair, his hand clutching his cap as his arms waving excitedly. 'That was electric! That was super tense and believable and ohhhhh, I knew this "angels and demons hidden amongst humans" theme was going to work! And you two! Man, I could not have cast more awesome people for these roles!'
'You're welcome, by the way,' Alya lightheartedly sing-songed from behind him, grinning happily.
'Yeah, okay, I owe you an Andre's ice-cream, but if this take is as good as it was in person, I am buying you ice-cream every day for a month!' Nino promised before dashing off to look at the take.
'Whew! It was sooo hard being so mean!' Lila fibbed, earning her some comments on how fantastic of an actor she was by their fellow classmates. With Lila sufficiently distracted, Marinette let out a shaky breath, the adrenaline pumping through her body making her fidgety and unsettled.
'Hey,' Adrien greeted gently as he approached her, placing a hand on her shoulder as he handed her a glass of water, 'you did fantastically out there.'
They both knew the real meaning behind his words.
'Are you okay?' he asked.
"I know your secret." Lila's line echoed in her mind, Lila's expression - and the way it scared her - haunted her. It was like she really knew...
'Yeah... but also... no?' Marinette answered. She wasn't entirely sure he'd understand what she meant, but he nodded like he did. 'The acting bit, I'm fine with, but her? It's... she's...'
'Overwhelming?' he prompted. 'Like suddenly, it's all too real, and it's hard to remember where you are and what you're doing.'
She nodded. He understood.
'I felt like that every time Dad was at a photoshoot,' Adrien admitted. 'Despite him being my father, he's this intimidating, powerful, incredibly critical figure that with one look can pull my performance- can pull me apart, and make me feel vulnerable in such a way that I feel like a kitten backed into a corner, trembling in front of this towering, snarling dog, and it always made me want to run and hide. But I had to fight through it, push through, pretend I had everything under control when I didn't feel like that at all, and let myself decompress once I was alone and safe in my room.'
Marinette's heart ached for Adrien, while also taking comfort in knowing she wasn't alone in feeling this way. Any other time, she might've felt guilty for taking comfort in such a painful thing, but she was too rattled right now. Instead, she silently hugged him, ignoring the stinging of tears forming in her eyes as she wrapped her arms around him, careful not to spill the water in the glass she was still holding as he hugged her back.
In his arms, she felt safe, and the world around them faded away as she let the adrenaline run its course and bleed out of her system, knowing he'd catch her if she fell. She ignored Nino's cries of a perfect one-take wonder, she ignored Lila's grandstanding to their peers, she ignored the clicking of phone cameras. She was in her own bubble within Adrien's arms, and all she could hear was the sounds of their breaths and his steady heartbeat against her ear.
Le Chat Et Le Serpent - Chapter 58
Please note that the entirety of this story is a ****TRIGGER WARNING***** - mentions of child abuse, graphic violence, alcohol use, mental health, suicide, suicidal ideation, self-harm - basically a constant blow of pain towards the characters - as well as some "steamier" moments.
Chapter Summary:
The group discusses possibilities going forward. How will Luka and Alya solve the problem of the rings?
The song is the same as the last chapter - Angel With A Shotgun
I'm an angel with a shotgun
Fighting til' the wars won
I don't care if heaven won't take me back
I'll throw away my faith, babe, just to keep you safe
Angel With a Shotgun by The Cab
-
Luka was greeted by Alya's snort. "What? Did you steal Adrien's aviators? How's that disguise working for ya, Johnny Cash?"
"Shit." Luka held his smoke between his teeth as he let out a raspy laugh.
"You ready to start a rebellion?" Alya shoved her hands in her pockets as they stepped onto the sidewalk.
"Do you think they'll really go for it? Chat Noir and Ladybug are the staples that created this group." Luka paused at the front of the store. They'd all be going in the back, but he still couldn't fathom that Adrien had bought this shop for him. It was more than perfect. The only thing wrong with it was that he and Adrien didn't get to work on it together.
"I think we can't make it seem like it's a choice. Because," Alya paused to rub her belly, "it's really not."
-
Holding his arm stiff, Luka tensed his muscles as he helped Alya to sit atop the cafe counter. Thankfully, Alya squeezed Luka's shoulder before tilting her head against the beam beside her. Luka stayed with his back against the edge of the bar, monitoring as more holders continued to trail in.
Clenching his jaw and fists, Luka forced himself to focus on them. On each holder's noises, their laughters, their breaths, any mannerism that could pull his attention. But no matter how hard he tried to distract himself, memories of Adrien kept slipping through.
What he'd done to renovate.
His blonde hair spread against his chest on the couch.
I hate you, Luka Couffaine.
"Hey," Alya's soft voice barely broke through the surface of Luka's reverie. "Are you okay?"
Luka's movements were languid as he nodded in assent. "Yeah... This is... It just feels like the worst form of betrayal I could ever do to Adrien." He finished his words with a harsh gulp, amplified by Zoe bashfully turning away as his gaze landed upon her.
"Alright everyone!" Alya announced as the last holders sat down. "Today's meeting will discuss the future of the Miraculous team. As I'm sure you all have noticed, neither Chat Noir nor Ladybug have been invited to this meeting."
Juleka intertwined her hand around Rose's, she had no idea how long Luka had been back, but he hadn't said anything to her. He looked significantly different. He held himself in a further slouched position, his hair had a shot of blue against black, a musical tattoo crawling up his neck, and looked generally dishevelled. His stance was staggered, as if he'd already been drinking.
"Are we getting rid of Ladybug?" Kim surprised the group by being the first to ask the question.
"Um... It's a little bit more complicated than that." Alya's face dropped as she turned towards Nino, "We also need to take over the Miraculous of Destruction."
The room immediately started to clamour.
We can't do that to Chat Noir!
He's been there since day one!
The team won't be the same without him!
Juleka and Rose were the only ones who stayed frozen to their spot. Luka was, of course, wearing his aviators. He needed to obscure how much this decision anguished him; he wanted to appear strong for the group.
The entire subject, however, was too suspicious for Zoe. Her and Adrien may not be best friends, and her heart may still be fluttering by Luka's enthralling presence, but having Chat's ex vie for his source of power didn't seem right. Stepping through the calmour, Zoe closed the space between herself and Luka.
"Luka, why are you taking Chat's Miraculous?" She was forcing him to look back at her, to know she would stand up for Chat regardless of any of the drama that existed in their civilian lives.
"We are about to get to that, IF EVERYONE WOULD SIT DOWN AND LISTEN!" Alya shouted over the complaining holders while side eyeing Zoe.
Zoe wasn't ready to accept this yet. The taking of Chat's Miraculous was obviously big news, what wasn't right was Luka standing at the front of this room. His judgement was too clouded to head this decision.
"Luka, why is it that you leave the team for so long for a music career, and when you suddenly decide to come back, you are aiming to take away Chat's Miraculous? You seem like the last person who should be making this decision."
Sucking in his cheeks, Luka responded to her in a raspy voice. "Because I have no choice."
Zoe was close enough to see what the others couldn't. The tear that fell from under the mirrored sunglasses. The golden chain that was mended in their battle against Second Chance,  peaking out from under his shirt collar.
"Well... Whatever the reason is, it better be good." Zoe ceded her attacking position and sat down by Nino. At least he evidenced this decision was not one taken lightly; that his decision was not one made from malice towards his ex.
As they waited for the explanation to continue, Zoe gave a briefly awkward side-hug to Nino, who had already started to weep.
"So," Alya continued, "I'm sure everyone has noticed that Ladybug has been a bit more of a ... difficult person to work with over the past year."
"She has started getting better though!" Mylene squeaked before cowering into Ivan.
Luka's teeth were aching from how frequently and feverently he'd clenched his jaw, but it was the only tactic he could think of to fuel out some of the anger before he spoke. "Has she? Because, from what I saw, she nearly killed Felix and has been treating Chat Noir like her toy."
His voice still snapped as a whip towards the group.
Boiling, Juleka challenged her brother's lash. "You've been gone! How are you supposed to know anything about what it's been like on the ground?"
Hiding his seething rage from Juleka was next to impossible; for better or worse, she always tore out his authentic self.
"Because this is why I had to fucking leave, Jules! This! If we're going to fucking save the world and save Chat Noir - I HAD TO LEAVE."
Juleka, along with the rest of the room had effectively been hushed.
"Thank you, Luka." Alya nodded towards him as he returned to his relaxed position on the bar. "There is a reason our Ladybug is not our Ladybug anymore. When the Miraculous' were returned, she was given an additional set of power."
"But... Wasn't she weaker when she came back?" Kim questioned.
"Yes, she was. Because the powers have an addictive euphoria and they were clouding her abilities. We think that once she managed her addiction, once she found balance, she was able to start gaining her time back." Alya paused to let the murmurs die down once again.
"What these powers do - is control a specific set of people. This explains why Felix was so easily caught. And it is also the reason why Ladybug has been able to control Chat Noir."
"How do we know if we're going to be safe?" Max asked, worried for himself and his family.
"Yeah, what magic is this?"
"The magic that Ladybug uses is in a set of rings. Luka and I know precisely who they affect, but this will not be shared until everyone has come to a consensus. What we can tell you is that we know that no one in this room, or their families, can be controlled by these rings. The only danger the rings are to you is the end of the world and the possibility of Chat Noir being forced to kill you."
Alya scanned the silent room. The holders were clearly terrified at the realisation, holding hands or pulling into themselves, waiting to hear Alya's next words.
"The issue is that these rings cannot easily be taken off. We can't slide them off in her sleep, or else we will be maimed ourselves. Our suits will not protect us." Kwamis were floating more intently, specifically interested in Sass's nods of verification along Alya's words. "With my conversation with Felix I was able to figure out a key piece of information, there are only two people in this world that can take off the rings, and they can only take a specific one. Felix is one, Chat Noir is the other."
"Do we have to break Felix outta jail?" Trixx didn't particularly like that idea, but it would be more amusing than dealing with the garbage villains that Lila released.
"It is a possibility, but - as our duties as Miraculous holders, and as representatives of Paris, letting a terrorist lose is not an optimal decision. But, none of them really are. If we cannot get the rings off by the specified holders, then we need to deal with the alternative consequences. The rings themselves hold chaos, stronger than anything we've ever faced with Gabriel. These creatures have the power to bring mayhem to the world; for the last centuries, they have only lived in two places: fairy tales and those rings.
"There are two ways we could sever the ring's power without releasing dark creatures." Alya held up her fingers to the group, choking on her heart that was beating in her throat. Eyes stared upon her as she tried to gather the words, but nothing wanted to come. She hated that any of these were options.
Squeezing her knee, Luka took over. Tearfully, Alya thanked him. "As you can see, we don't have any options that are good. I don't want anyone thinking we are offering these out of our own agendas, they are awful."
Rose hid further under Juleka's arm. Juleka was in a stunned silence, whereas Rose was already allowing her tears to fall.
"One option is to kill the holder of the Ladybug Miraculous, only when their soul has left their body can someone take off the ring without injury. The second is to kill both Felix and... Chat Noir." Luka's head craned to the side as the words left his mouth. He hated that idea. He hated saying it out loud. Dear god he hoped no one would ever take him up on that option.
Nino saw his pain reflected in Luka's. In a moment of impulse, Nino stepped up towards Luka. Luka's body was stiff as Nino held him in an embrace. There was a moment of silence as Luka relaxed in Nino's hold, his glasses skewed position against Nino's shoulder. The tighter Nino held, the more Luka couldn't stand on his own. They sniffled together under the burden of the decision they were forced to make.
With one last squeeze, Nino patted Luka's chest. "We'll figure it out Luka, we'll save him. I promise." Nino nodded before returning to his seat.
Rubbing a kleenex against his nose, Luka took a deep breath before continuing. "Before we start discussing the options, I want everyone to know what I think is our best option. I want to cataclysm the rings."
"Do you think we could handle the beasts?" Nino tentatively questioned.
Roarr centred herself in front of the group. "Listen, every Kwami has fought creatures. Nearly our entire existence has been spent fighting these creatures. I can't say that it will be easy, or that people won't get hurt, but this is what we were made for. This is why we can be held by humans. We weren't brought into existence to fight each other."
"There is another stipulation though." Sass floated beside Roarr. "Every attack up to this point against the rings has been reflected. Meaning that we believe the cataclysm will destroy it, but we also believe that the holder using the cataclysm will be equally affected by it."
Luka grimaced, he was hoping that part would stay hidden; but Sass did not approve of Luka's attraction to self-sacrifice.
Juleka could feel knees from the holders on the couch behind her protesting, but all she could focus on was Luka. She felt like she was falling and couldn't find a hand hold. "NO!" she screamed over the other dissenters. "You... you can't." She wanted to fight him, she wanted to shout and never stop.
"Jules," Luka's voice was as soft as it was broken, "it's the only way he'll be free."
"This isn't fair." Juleka mumbled as Rose tried to hold up her weight.
"The only one that makes sense is getting Felix and Chat Noir to take off the rings." Kagami spoke over the clamour regarding Luka's self-sacrifice.
"The only issue, besides breaking Felix out of jail, is that we would have to be completely covert. Ladybug will still have the power to tell them to back off." Luka pitched in the additional complication.
"Who says we have to break him out?" Zoe furrowed her brow. "We just have to bring Ladybug to him."
Heads nodded throughout the room.
Sighing, Luka gave in. "Alright. Does everyone agree that we will try to capture Ladybug and bring her to Felix?" And basically gag her and hope for the best.
"It feels wrong going against Ladybug." Kagami spoke. "I know it's the obvious solution, but it still feels wrong."
"Hopefully," Sass began, "we will be able to get our old Ladybug back."
"All right. If anything goes wrong though, I'm going back to the original plan." Luka sipped at his coffee cup, with only a slight backing of Jamesons. "Before we discuss the logistics of that plan, we need to discuss the second point of this meeting - taking Chat Noir's Kwami."
"I thought we just figured out a way where we didn't have to do that?" Nino huffed as he lifted his hands only to drop them in his lap.
"He's already kept it for too long." Alya lowered her gaze. "The balance is shifting. Plus, capturing Ladybug would be nearly impossible with Chat by her side."
Sass took the stage again. "If we are successful, we will be able to bring back our Chat Noir. But right now, strange things are beginning to happen all over the world. If the balance isn't restored soon, nothing will be able to survive on this planet."
Luka was resigned as the rest of the room discussed semantics. This was all old news to him. His daze was interrupted by Alya shoving him.
"Huh?" He noticed everyone was looking at him.
"So should we go after their civilian selves?" Nino asked again.
"Since we cannot simply take the Miraculous' off without it turning into a legitimate battle, it will need to be done in stages. Plagg already knows he needs to get his holder to rescind ownership. He will manage that part and come to us. Only then will we start going after Ladybug." Luka tapped his fingers on the cup as he spoke.
Nino's face dropped, "Luka, that will destroy him."
Luka bit his lip as tears began to noticeably fall. "I know, that's why we need to make sure everything is perfect."
"Who are they? Ladybug and Chat Noir?" Zoe turned to Luka and Alya, both who were barely keeping it together.
"Until we have Plagg, Ladybug's identity will stay secret." Alya rubbed her legs, even admitting they were going to share Marinette's identity felt awful.
"And Chat Noir?" Zoe specifically looked to Luka, seeing how the mere name seemed to be tearing him apart.
Pulling his hair back, Luka was glad for the glasses so he could shut his eyes to the reactions. "Chat Noir is Adrien Agreste."
Zoe froze. The tattoos, the fling with Adrien, a love worth fighting for, every hiccup and struggle. "I'm so sorry!" She burst into tears as she lunged towards Luka. "I can't believe you had to go through all that, I'm so so sorry."
Her sudden jump had shocked Luka, but he accepted the warmth. He held her close as his pain leaked through his eyes. Through his shakes. At least now everyone knows.
"Did Marinette say you two couldn't be together?" Juleka looked on in confusion. It was upsetting that Adrien was in that state, but it didn't exactly negate everything he'd done.
"No," Luka rasped as he pulled from Zoe. "The rings belonged to Gabriel first."
He felt the room still as they stared at him again. It was fucked up. And it wasn't his fucked up story to tell. But then they'd understand everything. "Gabriel -," Luka sipped his coffee from a shaking hand.
Come on. You've got this. He tried to comfort himself. Breathe in, breathe out.
"Gabriel was a homophobic piece of shit." The words stung him again, causing his chest to seize. "He - he said - Adrien c-," Alya rubbed his back, letting him know that she could take over. Luka nodded as he pressed the back of his wrist to his lips.
"Gabriel told Adrien that he could only be gay in his own private space."
The crowd gasped as Juleka's face turned white.
Allowing the shock to dissipate first, Alya continued. "When he goes against these rules, he gets nosebleeds, and several have already almost killed him."
Luka slid down to the floor, unable to hold his own weight. He'd been a part of that. He'd been a part of almost killing Adrien.
Juleka crawled over the floor and pulled him against her chest. "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry."
Setting his coffee on the ground, he pulled himself closer to Juleka. He held so tightly he thought Juleka would burst. Instead of bursting, she rocked Luka as they sobbed together.
The rest of the semantics of the battle to come could wait. Nino helped to lower Alya off the bar.
"Let's get some food and come back guys." Nino stated as he wiped his flushed cheeks.
After the violent sobs were gone, all that was left was a silent trickle. Luka's head rested in Juleka's lap as she pulled off his glasses.
She ran her hand across his face. It was the most familiar he'd looked in a long time. His bravado, his secrets, were all shed. Leaving nothing but her broken hearted brother.
"I'm so sorry, Luka. How long did you know?" She continued her caresses of comfort.
"Not long enough." Luka ran his ring along the golden chain.
"Fucking Marinette."
Luka let out a sob ridden laugh, "Fucking Marinette."'
It had been so long since she'd seen him smile. She hated that he'd fought this battle alone.
Author's Notes:
Review of options:
1. Kill ladybug - temporary, rings will still find a way to wreak havoc (similar to 4)
2. Kill Felix AND Adrien - power on rings will be broken, creatures will be trapped in ring and only those with a blood connection will be able to hold them
3. Destroy the rings and release mayhem (where Luka would probably die)
4. Break into jail to get Felix to take off his ring and continue to gag Marinette so they can go to Adrien to get him to take off his own ring.
-
Angel With A Shotgun has been in the chapters several times for a reason. I really believe that this song is Luka's current theme song. He is willing to sacrifice EVERYTHING for his love. His morals (honesty) and his life. As long as Adrien can make it through.
-
This is the "calm before the storm". Next three* chapters are battles (subject to change depending on editing). We are there guys. We're facing the beast.
-
AHHH - I can't believe we're here. I am so happy that people have enjoyed my story up to here, I'm praying I don't disappoint!
-
Thank you again for reading, y'all are beautiful 💕💕
In the idea for "Silence Can Be The Loudest Thing", can I see some headcannons, or just expanding on the idea? Please? I'm very interested in it.
YES YOU ABSOLUTELY CAN
Sorry I'm just excited to share things for this au XD
So this is after Frozer and Marinette has come to realize that maybe letting go of Adrien as a romantic interest is for the best. Not only for him but for her as well. The date-not-date was kind of the final nail in the coffin for her. When she told Alya and Nino, Alya didn't believe her and just thought it was her being Marinette and being disheartened.
•Alya was still in doubt but she listened and didn't immediately scheme to get the two together, but she still made jokes about the two and even told Marinette to her face that there was no way Marinette was over Adrien. Who was Marinette if she wasn't crazy about Adrien.
•Not only that, she told the girl group, hoping for support and, she just knew Adrienette was supposed to happen. It quickly divided the class because it divided the girl group, the boys found out what happened after Nino told them.
•That ends up in a small fight between Marinette and Alya and Marinette distances herself from Alya and begins to hang out with Kitty Section more. It also causes Marinette to change her seat by herself this time.
•Adrien doesn't understand why the two girls fought but he tries to talk sense into Marinette because he wants his normal back, and he wants his usual friend group back and all good again. Marinette politely tells Adrien not to push her on the matter and that she and Alya are just taking a breather from one another but he just can't accept it.
•He keeps pushing and it opens Marinette’s eyes even more. Her ideal guy wouldn't push her on matters when she has clearly stated she wasn't ready to talk about them.
• Kitty Section sees this and they do their best to subtly keep Marinette away from Adrien and not hurt his feelings since he's still their friend too. Then the competition comes up!
• It's a perfect distraction for Marinette and it was a great opportunity for the band so it was honestly fate to them.
• Luka knows something changed between Marinette and Adrien but he hadn't asked her what. He figured she would tell him when she was ready to talk about it and honestly he was just delighted at all the time she was spending at their houseboat.
• They work on the project like Canon but with Adrien and Alya trying to interfere, but Kitty Section won't allow it and so won't some of their classmates.
• Adrien is getting frustrated because even his attempts at visiting her as Chat and coaxing her to talk to Adrien that way had been fruitless seeing as she wasn't home or in her room each time he tried.
• Well Canon happens, Luka is akumatized into Silencer, the design will ABSOLUTELY be changed. I'm thinking either a sort of Silent Knight thing that's based off his Kitty Section mask, Some kind of play on a Ventriloquist, or like some kind of play on a Raven hybrid or a play on the Crocotta creature.
• Before Marinette can run to transform, Bob Roth uses her as a human shield as the usual, but it was so quick and unexpected that Luka did take Marinette’s voice. He immediately starts to fret as Bob Roth makes his escape.
• He manages to give Marinette her voice back but he is pissed, the damage is done. He vows then and there to protect Marinette. He decided he couldn't just leave her at the studio, who knows what would happen. So he takes her with him on his quest for justice.
• When Chat jumps on the scene Luka's anger rises, he is mad, I mean akuma rage isn't exactly logical. Chat calling Marinette Little Lady, and Princess is absolutely not helping the situation. Nor is Chat's tantrum at Ladybug not being there for the fight just yet.
• Chat makes the situation worse as he fights Luka, and tries to talk to Marinette about the Adrien thing, and the Alya thing and trying to guilt her into talking to them and seeing their side of things.
• It hurts Marinette, but it makes her mad and hearing about what happened in the class and seeing Marinette’s reactions just doubles Luka’s efforts to protect her.
• the fight ends back at the studio when Chat gets frustrated and just Cataclysms the floor causing them to fall through. They are all safe but Marinette takes the chance to run and transform.
• Luka immediately notices her absence and thinks the worst, he thinks she's under the rubble and just desperately starts digging, he ignores HM, ignores Chat Noir who is yelling something about getting his akuma. All he cares about is Marinette.
• Enter Ladybug who has the fastest akuma cleansing ever, no one notices the camera in the room being on as they speak and Luka realizes he was akumatized but then he asks where Marinette is.
• Chat is very nonchalant about how he cataclysmed the floor when they were all there so even if she was buried under the rubble she should have been fine anyway. He said it like it wasn't a big deal and everyone saw and everyone heard him. He doesn't know. Ladybug is disgusted. Luka is horrified and pissed enough the be akumatized again but LB explained she got Marinette out of there in all the excitement.
• Chat grumbles about having to track her down and just leaves after yelling at LB about not showing up to the fight and berating her for being immature and saving she only did it to get back at him for the Frozer incident. LB is flabbergasted but calmly explains she didn't know about the akuma because no one noticed there was an akuma. She only knew because she saw them all heading into the studio minutes ago.
• He merely huffed and leaved. Bob Roth enters and basically boasts like he did in the episode about how he basically got away with stealing young artist's work like he's so many times before. Again. The TV is broadcasting, it's only when the two turn to glare at him that they see the red of the camera on.
• They all realize everything was broadcast. Paris is in shock. Not only about Bob Roth, but because of Chat Noir. Their beloved hero and his abhorrent behavior. It's Nadja and her show that end up covering everything and have Kitty Section on the show to show their song and how it should have actually been performed.
• the confession goes the same except Marinette actually tells Luka she does like him but she is still working out her feelings and is still getting over Adrien.
• Luka understands and they do end up dating after some time, during that time is Paris’s change of view and opinion of Chat Noir. The class is once again split but now on the opinion of the leather clad hero.
• The hero who has to hear how horrible people think he is and how some people are finding more evidence of his awful behavior. It gets to the point where Fu has to take the ring and he does end up giving the box to Marinette because he feels guilty over the situation as a whole. He feels like a failure and just gives up.
10 for the salty ask game 😈
Salty Asks !
10. Most disliked arc? Why?
I've already ranted about how much I hated the love rivals arc this week so I won't do that again, but that would definitely be my MOST hated arc. If I had to choose another one, uhhhhhh whatever is being set up with Luka knowing both their identities + his role in Ephemeral, probably. Maybe I'm judging this arc prematurely given we haven't seen where it's going yet, but it just feels wrong at every turn lmao.
Obviously they needed the Snake miraculous for the Ephemeral plot to work, so him being in the start of the ep for that part is whatever I guess, but the support/advice role in Ephemeral definitely should've gone to Alya --- Marinette was vague enough in how she explained her situation to Luka that Alya knowing both identities wouldn't have actually been an issue, despite how the story tried to convince us that was the reason she couldn't talk to Alya. Not to mention the fact that ALYA KNEW MARINETTE'S IDENTITY AND MARINETTE KNEW SHE KNEW SO IT WOULD'VE MADE HER SAYING "IT ALLOWED ME TO LOVE THEM MORE" THAT MUCH MORE MEANINGFUL!!!!!! HELLO!!!!!!! The Alya reveal was such a major moment in the show (which people were way more invested in seeing happen and for far longer than the Luka reveal???) and it single-handedly influenced the entire rest of the season so why wasn't that the parallel that was drawn!!!!!!!!!
Smh, speaking of that, Alya also could've and should've been the one she texted while running from Shadowmoth when everything went south, given that MARINETTE KNOWS ALYA KNOWS HER IDENTITY AND ALYA ACTUALLY KNOWS WHERE THE MIRACLE BOX IS AND HOW IT WORKS????? AGAIN HELLO????? WASN'T THAT ALSO THE POINT OF WHAT ALYA HAD BEEN DOING IN THE REST OF THE SEASON????? BEING LADYBUG'S CONFIDANTE AND BACKUP IN AN EMERGENCY, LIKE IN HACK-SAN AND OPTIGAMI??????
The post-wishmaker memes/comics about Luka realizing just how stupid the lovesquare situation actually is are funny, but I just can't jive with him knowing both identities in canon. It happened without permission from either of them and without their knowledge, there's literally no reason for him to be plot-important, and after "Truth", his bizarre silence on the matter just makes him look like a huge hypocrite.
So how come Marinette just lets everyone have their Miraculous back for Season 4 even if Shadowmoth knows who they are, but a plot point of Season 3 was that Chloe couldn't use her Miraculous anymore because Hawkmoth knew who she was? Even in the Visperia episode Ladybug says that "unlike Chloe you'll keep it a secret" but then just tosses whoever their Miraculous back just because? Rocketear just has Carapace helping to catch non-akumatized dinosaurs because it'll look cool I guess. I know Astruc went out of his way to assassinate Chloe's character but can the show just be consistent?
Hey anon! What a great question indeed.
I think the one thing people tend to forget when comparing Chloe with the rest of the Miraculous users is that there is, in fact, something that does set her apart: Her repeated offenses against Ladybug's rules of secrecy and use.
But let's review what we know Chloe did before we get into that:
The first time Chloe had a Miraculous, it was not handed to her. She found it and refused to give it back at first.
She tried to stage an emergency to position herself as a new hero, effectively risking a bunch of citizens.
She revealed her identity for personal gain.
Finally, the biggest offense: In the moment of truth, she sided with Hawkmoth.
Now let's compare that with what the other Miraculous holders did:
Get hit by Miracle Queen and be forced to reveal their identity.
The main difference between Chloe and the rest of the Miraculous holders when their identity was revealed is that she chose to exploit her power for personal gain while the rest of the holders were victims of an akuma.
One may say, "Yeah, but what if she didn't know that revealing her identity would make her Hawkmoth's target?" Really? The self-proclaimed Biggest Ladybug Fan ™ doesn't know how her favorite heroine's villan works? Especially after being his target in countless ocassions? I am not sure.
Of course, this is up for interpretation, but I find it hard to believe that Chloe, someone who is allegedly as passionate about Ladybug as Alya, doesn't know the stakes Ladybug faces. My interpretation is that she knew, she just thought that it wouldn't matter because she'd be able to face him so long as she had a Miraculous (and it kind of checks out because in Heart Eater she threatens him: "If I had my Miraculous...")
Chloe committed the mistake of thinking that just because she was handed a Miraculous once she'd be entitled to have it again. Even more so, that she'd be able to decide when that happened. Another important point here is that her official "handing" (in Malediktator) was a result of Ladybug losing the Miraculous. Ladybug wouldn't have trusted Chloe otherwise. And pointedly, Ladybug is giving Chloe the same treatment in S3 as she is giving the rest of the holders in S4: She is giving her the benefit of doubt. Trusting that she will be careful. She only stops trusting her once her offenses are crystal clear.
So, when Ladybug tells Vesperia she knows she'll be able to keep it a secret, she is referring to the fact that she won't willingly reveal her identity. Not that it won't happen by accident.
Then, on the topic of the show being inconsistent regarding identity reveals as a plot point. Honestly, I feel like this may be a result of having the episodes out of order, not a fault of the show itself. Because now that we have a few more episodes you can see that the consequences of revealing your identity are still front and center in the plot of S4.
S4 is built on what happened in S3. And interestingly, we are now asking Alya, Nino, and Adrien the same question we asked Chloe in S3: How do they deal with the secrets they've been entrusted with? And now, Nino has now broken the rule, too. The only reason why it seems inconsistent that he hasn't gotten any consequence, is because the consequence isn't here yet. It lies in the episodes ahead.
This ties to the point of Ladybug handing back Miraculous to people whose identity has been exposed. I wouldn't say that the logic of who gets a Miraculous is inconsistent because it's not a precept, it's a decision taken by a character, and characters are not supposed to act perfectly (where would be the fun in that?).
Personally, I think that Ladybug trusting the same people again is a result of her current difficulty trusting herself as a Guardian. My interpretation is that she much rather keep the people that have already proven they're trustworthy, and trust they will do the right thing. Which is why she keeps going back to Carapace and Rena (as implied in Rocketear), and why she is trusting blindly in the fact Chat won't question these shaky decisions, which will be, as we are beginning to suspect, a catastrophic mistake especially once it is revealed that they affect his interests.
But she trusts them with the Miraculous because... who is more trustworthy than her friends?
Cue the angst.
🌝 EDIT: Another point I wanted to add is how it will be SO interesting to see whether Chat ends up paralleling Chloe or not. Because when you think about it, her decision to side with Hawkmoth was ultimately driven by the idea that Ladybug doesn't care about her. After all, one of ML's story morals is that you can't always control the situations around you, but you can control how you react to them.
Let's see how the kitty cat fends in that test of fire 😏
Ok, NOW cue the angst.
Chapter 5 of my fic ''A blessing in disguise!''
Enjoy!
Info abt the fic + first chapter here.
*****
Little Devil was quite impressed: it had taken much longer than expected for Chat Noir to crack. She hadn't expected that. But that didn't matter now. He was demonized and no potential threat to her.
---
Shadow Moth was getting worried: where was Ladybug? Usually, it didn't take her long to arrive at the scene. Now, however, the spotted heroine was nowhere to be found. He decided to contact his akuma.
''Little Devil, where's Ladybug? Why isn't she here yet?''
To his surprise, she answered in a sneery tone: ''How am I supposed to know? Do I look like Ladybugs babysitter to you?''
Shadow Moth wasn't used to such rude answers from anyone, especially his akuma's. ''Watch your tone, young lady,'' he replied.
''Oh, chill out, Mothman,'' she responded, ''Miss Bug will come, don't you worry.''
Shadow Moth didn't like this; he decided to switch the topic. ''Take Chat Noir's miraculous, his ring!'' he commanded.
''I'll do that later,'' she promptly replied.
Shadow Moth was getting frustrated. He decided to threaten her. Yes, that always worked. ''No, do it now! Or else I'll take your powers away...'' He paused dramatically. ''You wouldn't want that now, would you?'' he asked softly.
''Listen, Shadow Moth; I've already got my revenge. So as far as I'm concerned, you can have your powers back!'' Little Devil paused for a moment before continuing. ''You wouldn't want to take away the powers of your most successful akuma now, would you?'' she replied, mimicking his soft tone.
Shadow Moth was shocked; Little Devil had managed to turn the whole conversation around! But before he had time to rant about it, Little Devil spoke again: ''Anyway, I'd like to meet up with you to discuss my plan to lure Ladybug out.''
''Can't we just discuss it like this?'' Shadow Moth answered, clearly irritated.
''No. How do I know no one is eavesdropping on your side?''
''I can assure you that no one is,'' he replied.
The girl groaned. ''Just- just meet me at the statue across the Theatre du Chatelet in an hour. Unless you want to invite me over to your secret lair?''
Shadow Moth found himself spluttering for a bit but then agreed. ''Perfect,'' the girl exclaimed, clearly satisfied.
He broke off the contact. He didn't like this petite girl bossing him around, but it was a price he was willing to pay to achieve his goal.
---
Alya was trapped. Trapped in her own mind. Most akuma's that had transformed people simply changed them into mindless beings who had no idea who they were or what they were doing. Little Devil, however, made sure that her victims were perfectly aware of their actions yet had no control over themselves. She imprisoned them in their minds, so they could watch the horrors their uncontrolled body was enacting.
Alya shuddered as she watched herself beat up her boyfriend.
Tears sprung in her eyes as she surveyed the chaos.
''What have you done, Marinette,'' she whispered.
---
Lila took a peek from her hiding place. Perfect. Those idiots were still keeping each other busy. She could easily sneak out without anyone noticing; she was tired of sitting in the same position for the past hour. Lila would have snuck out a long time ago if it weren't for Chloe-brat making a mess and that alley cat having to come and rescue her. Carefully, she crept out from under the desk and made her way to the door. Unfortunately for the girl at that moment, Alya's demon happened to turn her head and spotted her. Lila froze. Damnit. Just her luck. Maybe she should just make a run for it. She tried to run, but she couldn't: she was glued to the spot. Lila was doomed.
---
Shadow Moth didn't like people who were late. And Little Devil was late. He paced once more up and down. Just when he was finished, he could see a figure in the distance. She'd arrived. This girl better has a damn good plan to make up for all the trouble she put him through.
---
Sabine motioned her husband to come to sit next to her. She hastily put up the volume of the TV.
''Don't be bemused; it's just the news; this is Nadja Chamack. People all over Paris are slowly turning into demons, and still no sight of Ladybug. Chat Noir was spotted near Francois Dupont a while ago but is now nowhere to be seen! Will Paris have to deal with this akuma without their superheroes?''
''Tom, don't you think it's strange that Ladybug doesn't show up at this particular akuma? I mean, she's always—'' before the woman could finish her sentence, five small creatures flew into their bakery.
''Lil Devils!'' Tom exclaimed. He jumped up from the sofa and pointed at the door. ''Close the door!''
Sabine briskly hurried to do so. Tom meanwhile closed all the windows. They stood there, catching their breath for a while.
''I think we're safe for now.''
---
Little Devil inspected Shadow Moth from her hiding place. He had brought a sentimonster. ''Showtime.''
---
''So, what's your brilliant plan, Little Devil?'' Shadow Moth snarled.
''I think it'll be very effective. Allow me to demonstrate,'' she answered with a grin that Shadow Moth didn't like. ''If you will, my angels.''
And with that, her Lil Devils began attacking him.
---
''Don't test it on me, you bonehead!'' he growled.
The girl facing him just laughed. ''You still don't understand, do you?''
---
Shadow Moth indeed didn't understand what was going on. If he had studied her emotions more carefully when he akumatized her, he would have. In fact, if he wasn't such a condescending and arrogant moron, he wouldn't have akumatized her at all. Marinette's breakdown was only partly caused by Lila. A large portion was generated by the more frequent becoming akuma's and her responsibility as Ladybug. Furthermore, her immense hatred of Shadow Moth. And so, Lila and her classmates were not her only targets.
---
The little creatures nestled themselves on his shoulders and began working their magic. ''Your akuma designs are hideous. And honestly, what were you thinking, akumatizing Mr Pidgeon 72 times? You're a useless villain.''
''Stop it!'' he cried.
''Give him a small pause.''
Little Devil leaned forward, so her face was hovering right in front of his. ''I don't know what they're saying to you, but you deserve it,'' she commented. ''Carry on.''
---
Shadow Moth was lost for words. What was supposed to be his most successful akuma was his downfall.
---
''You've been beaten and outsmarted by a bunch of teenagers countless times. Just give up.''
''Shut up!'' he whimpered.
The tone of the voice suddenly changed; it became more questioning. ''You isolated your son and ignored him. What kind of father are you?''
The man hadn't expected this. He was doing this, all of this, for his son. For his family!
''Are you, though? For whom are you doing this? For your family, or for yourself?'' the nasty voice pointed out. ''Do you think Emilie would have wanted all of this?''
At this, he hung his head.
The voice pushed further. "Would she?''
No. Emilie wouldn't have wanted this. But he still refused to admit it.
''I'm doing this so that we can be a family again!'' he wailed.
''Emily would be very disappointed if she saw what you've been doing, instead of being a good father.''
A tear formed in the corner of his eye.
---
Those last words surprised Little Devil. She hadn't expected Shadow Moths' wish to have anything to do with a family. Not that that changed anything. ''Keep going, my sweet devils,'' she commanded.
---
''Yes, Emily would be very disappointed.'' Those last two words kept echoing in his head. Very disappointed. Disappointed. Disappointed. Disappointed.
''No! Stop it!'' he sobbed, holding his head in his hands.
''Emilie probably wouldn't ever want to see you if she were here.''
Shadow Moth didn't say anything. After a while, he whispered: ''You're right. She would be disappointed.''
Float Like A Butterfly... Ch.6 ...Sting Like A Bee
Summary: An unexpected ally appears before Marinette. The only problem is, he's stumbled onto something he shouldn't have. And she needs it back.
---------------------------------
Marinette was having a terrible day.
First she shows up late with the principal accessory of the Gabriel line's Fashion Week showing. Fashion Week! Marinette was looking forward to it all month!
Next Audrey Bourgeois, Style Queen herself, treats the hat Marinette worked so hard on like gum on the bottom of her shoe. Sure Adrien had been super encouraging but he hadn't seen the look of utter contempt on Audrey Bourgeois face. No one could look that disgusted all the time!
Speaking of Adrien, he didn't make getting over him any easier by being so kind.
And if that wasn't enough Marinette's brain insisted on using Chat Noir's Miraculous to fight the akumatized villain. Again! She didn't want to think about Chat Noir right now because... Because... Marinette blinked rapidly. Deep breath... Because thinking about Chat Noir was painful.
But that wasn't even the worst part.
"Don't worry, Tikki. We'll get the box right after the show," Marinette stage whispered so as to not alert her parents. Who walked not even a meter away.
Tikki let out a concerned whine. Oh, this was a bad idea. She could feel it. Marinette was right that they couldn't get away from her parents beforehand. But that only made Tikki even more anxious to get searching. And Marinette really didn't need something else to worry about on top of... everything else.
She hoped no one found it.
----------------
Chloe's day was ridiculous. Utterly, ridiculous!
She sat next to her mother as Adrien walked down the runway. Lingering dread squashed and thrown into the very back of her mental walk-in closet where she kept unimportant things. Like shoes she never wore anymore, problematic outfits and lingering guilt that totally wasn't her's. Adrien wasn't slowly disintegrating anymore so why dwell on the past?
Adrien's performance was flawless and Chloe was absolutely certain she appreciated his efforts more than anyone else... Even if Alya Cesaire was livestreaming.
The show went off without a hitch. Adrien seemed fine but then he was almost as good at pretending as she was. Chloe eyed him as Gabriel's lackey, um, assistant pulled him along. Not physically, of course. It was more of a metaphorical pulling.
Ugh, Gabriel Agreste started talking with Chloe's mother through his assistant's tablet. Like, yeah, apologizing to the Queen of Style was a no brainer. But he could have at least come in person! Not like Gabriel was doing anything important besides being the world's richest hermit.
... And Dupain-Cheng was there too. Of course she was. At least her mother would put Dupain-Cheng in her place. Chloe felt herself smirk at the thought.
Adrien raised an eyebrow. As though reading her mind.
Chloe pretended not to notice. No petty satisfactions here! No, sir! But it wasn't like the Queen of Style was going to say anything about Dupain-Cheng's hat except-
"It's the most exceptional thing I've ever seen!" Audrey Bourgeois announced.
Exact- Wait, what!?
"You're a visionary, Marinette! Glitter's had its day..."
Chloe's ears rang, drowning out her mother's voice. Exceptional? Her? Over a- a- a hat!? A vice squeezed Chloe's chest with cruel precision. When her own present was rejected without even unwrapping it!? Chloe's fists shook as she bit her tongue.
"Isn't that nice for your friend, Chloe dearest?" Andre Bourgeois asked.
"It's ridiculous! Utterly ridiculous!" Chloe whirled on her mother. "I've never been to New York with you and you're taking Marinette Dupain-Cheng!?" She spat.
"I'm afraid I have a last minute meeting to attend, my dear Audrey," Gabriel announced from the tablet. "Nathalie, bring Adrien home immediately."
Adrien's attention snapped from Chloe to Gabriel. "But, Father, I-"
"Do not embarrass me in front of the Bourgeois," Gabriel snapped, ending the call.
Jaw clenching shut, Adrien stared at nothing with stormy eyes as Nathalie led him away.
"I'm taking her because she's exceptional, Claudette. Uh- Chloe," Audrey stated matter-of-factly, the Agrestes already forgotten.
"I'm exceptional too!" Chloe shot back.
Audrey inspected her white gloves, bored of this exchange. "The only exceptional thing about you, my dear-" Audrey deigned to glance at her daughter. "-is your mother."
Chloe's blood boiled as she shook off Andre's hands on her shoulders, standing straighter. "I'll show you how exceptional I can be!" she promised.
Just as an akuma entered Chloe's present.
---------------
Alya was having an amazing day!
Her livestreams hadn't gotten this many new views since she almost got sacrificed by Pharaoh. The Ladyblog's activity was up. And Ladybug chose her as the Black Cat!
Sure it was weird that Ladybug didn't want to talk about it. But still! Black Cat! Alya tried to contain her grin as she thought about being Ladybug's partner for a day...
Her pace on the sidewalk slowed, enthusiasm dampening a little... Setting her face in determination Alya skipped into gear. All the more reason to piece together what happened! And she'd start with-
A burst of yellow light shot forth from the Grand Palais. Jolting Alya out of her thoughts as the newest akuma victim gave their villain speech from the roof.
"I am Queen Glitter! And from now on the only exceptional person in Paris will be me!"
Alya ran... straight for the villain who was obviously Chloe as she summoned a cloud of glitter and shapped it into a collection of accessories. The constructs restricting the movement of whoever they landed on. Scarves wrapping people's legs together or tying them to lampposts. Hats covering people's eyes as they tried to yank them off. There was even someone with his hands stuck in high heels. Queen Glitter made a giant floating scarf to stand on and took off in a random direction; leaving a trail of gaudy accessories in her wake.
Great. It was going to take forever to catch up to her now! Taking cover in an alleyway so Queen Glitter's sparkly formal wear wouldn't notice her, Alya scanned the street. Mentally kicking herself for not having recorded the villain speech for the Ladyblog.
"Looks like you're raring to go," Ladybug observed as she landed next to Alya. A familiar box in her hand.
"Ladybug! Didn't think I'd be helping out again so soon!" Alya held out her palm and Ladybug placed the Black Cat Miraculous in her hands again.
"Y'know the drill, right?" Ladybug's eyes wandered to the people in various states of running-for-their-lives.
"Give it back when we're done and don't take it personally," Alya paraphrased as Plagg emerged in a ball of light when she placed the ring on her finger.
"Ladyblog girl again?” Plagg gave her a once over. Ears flat against his head but swishing tail betraying his apprehension. "Well, at least Alya's not blue boy."
“He wasn’t that-“ Ladybug shook her head. “Y’know what, never mind.”
Glancing between them Alya filed that tidbit away for later. "C'mon, Plagg. We did great together!"
"You were okay," Plagg acknowledged. "Could've used more cat puns."
Alya chuckled. Of course he'd like those. With a -slightly forced- encouraging smile from Ladybug, Alya called out: “Plagg, transforme-moi!”
Green lightning traveled from Chat Noir’s ring across both arms and down her torso. A green sash wrapping around her waist and trailing into a tail. Running her clawed gloves through her hair as cat ears materialized. Said hair puffing up into an afro. Armor padding her shoulders and torso. Alya flexed her fingers to get used to the feeling. Chat Ombre's suit still felt strange on her skin compared to Rena Rouge.
Ladybug leapt onto the rooftops and Chat Ombre followed her lead. Racing towards the villain while avoiding her glitter. "So what's the plan?"
"Queen Glitter is basically a reskin of Style Queen," Ladybug thought aloud.
"But without that annoying habit of turning into a cloud!" Chat Ombre supplied.
Ladybug launched her yo-yo at a pedestrian and yanked him away from Queen Glitter's constructs as they passed by. "But she can spread her power over a wider area."
"Don't worry, Ladybug. We'll be- Look out!" Alya tackled Ladybug out of the way as a trio of glittery top hats zoomed past.
"Your reign is over Ladybug and wannabe Chat Noir!" Queen Glitter announced as she floated over them. Her appearance was similar to Style Queen except her crown was even bigger and gaudier. A foux glitter scarf around her shoulders. "I don't even care if you don't give me your Miraculous! I'll simply immobilize you and take them by force!"
They evaded a flurry of coats by jumping down to the street. "Really?" Chat Ombre called out. "That all you can throw at us? A tacky outfit?"
"Wouldn't be the first time!" Ladybug agreed.
"No one ever appreciates my gifts!" Queen Glitter stomped her foot. "Fine then. Why don't we try something more expensive!" Raising her hands she lifted two cars wrapped with giant bows into the air.
Alya's eyes widened. "Oh, shi-" Chat Ombre evaded Chloe's attacks as the villain played wack-a-chat. Glitter accessories flying in and attempting to restrict their movements as well.
Ladybug wrapped one of the vehicles with her yo-yo and spun it back at Queen Glitter.
The bright red sports car hurled towards her and- She stopped it with the palm of her hand. "You'll have to do better than that if- Where'd you go!?" Queen Glitter scanned the empty street, rising higher for a better vantage point.
Chat Ombre locked eyes with her for a second before a chimney obscured her line of sight. "Somehow I don't think that bought us much time." Alya voiced as a wave of clothing rose over the city.
Ladybug spotted a strip of blue between the rooftops. Thinking quickly, Marinette grabbed Alya's hand and turned them towards the Seine. Diving into its waters with a torrent of glitter in their wake.
Queen Glitter's constructs crashed into the river and washed away with the current.
Chat Ombre made for the surface once it was clear but Ladybug pulled her back. Chat's staff in her hand and yo-yo on her face. Pointing towards the magic tool Ladybug offered it to Alya.
Nodding, Alya quickly pressed it to her lips and took a deep breath, sweet oxygen filling her lungs. Giving Ladybug a thumbs up once she didn't feel like her chest was on fire.
Grabbing her hand Ladybug led Alya further upstream until they found a boat.
Gasping the (relatively) fresh air Alya examined Chat's staff. "I didn't know it could do that."
"Yeah, the Miraculous are full of surprises. And we'll need one of our own to beat Queen Glitter. Lucky Charm!"
A spotted snorkel fell into Ladybug's hands.
"Don't we already have one of those?" Chat Ombre asked.
Ladybug's brow furrowed as she stared at it. "Yeah... Wait, Queen Glitter's powers don't work underwater!"
"So, all we need to do is get her there!"
Ladybug glanced at a pair of recycling bins. "And I know just how to sneak up on her."
Chat Ombre grinned. She liked this plan.
---------------
Chat Ombre hated this plan!
It had all gone smoothly. The glitter constructs ignoring the recycling bins they used as disguises. Snake style. Chloe was dumbfounded when she saw them. Enough to let them take the elevator up to the Grand Paris' rooftop where Queen Glitter set up her makeshift throne. Giving them the opportunity to tackle her towards the Seine.
Unfortunately, Queen Glitter could make constructs of any size. Like, for example, a wide brimmed hat big enough to stretch from either bank of the Seine.
"You were going to make me wear this?" Queen Glitter held up the Lucky Charm- "No thanks!" -and struck it across her knee.
Alya winced as the villain broke Ladybug's insta-win button in half. "Please, tell me you have a plan?" Chat Ombre glanced at the spotted hero currently wrapped up in an extra long scarf just like she was. The floating constructs squeezing just a little bit more as Ladybug struggled against them. Alya tried bending her wrist to Cataclysm her restraints but her right hand was held away from the rest of her body.
"No planning! Not that it'll do you any good. I've already won! Me! Queen Glitter! MWAHAHAHAH- Do you mind? I'm trying to savour the moment!" Chloe snapped as Papillon's emblem glowed over her face.
Alya's head turned from an increasingly frantic Ladybug to the annoyed villain.
"Of course I'm going to take their Miraculous! Why wouldn't I take their Miraculous?"
"An excellent question, your Highness!"
Three pairs of eyes snapped towards the source of the unexpected voice.
"... Who the heck are you supposed to be?" Queen Glitter demanded.
"Aristos! At your service!" He bowed with a flourish, giving Alya a good look at the bee shaped comb at the base of his ponytail. Blond hair highlighted with black stripes. Goggles obscuring his face, making his green eyes hard to read despite the grin on his lips. Suit mostly yellow with black, V-shaped stripes on his torso, forearms and lower legs. Three hexagons on his chest giving the impression of honeycombs.
"No no no no no no." Ladybug stared at Aristos, not realizing that she was speaking aloud.
...Well, that can't be good, Alya thought.
"Ha! Did you really think more insects would help, Ladybug?" The villain mocked. Her constructs closing in on the interloper.
Aristos' smile took on a darker edge. "I'm not with her, your Majesty. I'm here to pledge myself to the most exceptional Queen I've ever seen! Really, where does Papillon get off talking to such a glittery figure as your Highness like that?"
Alya blinked. Really? Even Chloe wouldn't fall for-
Raising her hand the villain halted her constructs' advance. "Hmm, well at least you know how to treat royalty." Queen Glitter offered her bejeweled fingers. "I guess you can be my underling."
Ah. Right. Never underestimate the power of Chloe's ego.
The Bee, Alya was ninety-nine percent sure he was the Bee, took Chloe's offered hand and leaned down. Lips hovering over the back of her hand. "Oh! That reminds me your Highness, I have a gift for you."
Queen Glitter's eyes shone. "A present? For me? It better be the latest- Ow! I'm getting to that!" She snapped at Papillon, looking away from the Bee to glare at the absent supervillain.
Aristos removed the striped top Alya recognized as his Miraculous tool from around his waist.
"You didn't beat them! I did!"
Casually, carefully, Aristos placed his top on Queen Glitter's hand. Point against her glittering skin.
"You couldn't do it yourself so you sent me!"
"Venom," the Bee breathed.
"What was-"
Queen Glitter froze as Aristos' top glowed; his power paralyzing her. The constructs bursting into clouds of glitter. Chat Ombre landed in a crouch as her restraints vanished.
"It worked." Aristos sounded as surprised as Alya felt. "It worked! Yes! Nailed it!" He pumped his fist as relief overflowed and- Was he crying?. "Independent hero debut successful!"
"What?" Ladybug was staring at the Bee apprehensively and that didn't help Alya's nerves.
Aristos' mood instantly became more subdued. Blinking rapidly to get the water out of his eyes. "Oh, right. You're still here."
Chat Ombre tried not to take that personally. He did just save them, after all.
Ladybug stepped forward. Voice even, diplomatic. Never mind that she seemed this close to freaking out. "Listen, Aristos was it? I don't know how you found that Miraculous but you have to give it back."
His face was disturbingly neutral. "...Don't I get a 'thank you' for saving the day?"
The tension in Ladybug's shoulders wouldn't budge. "Thank you, but I really need that Miraculous back." She held out her hand.
Aristos stared at Ladybug's hand like it was something alien. Cracks appearing in his facade. "Yeah, pass."  Walking backwards, away from Ladybug and Chat Ombre, he kept them in his field of vision.
"Wh- The- Y-you can't just decide that!" Ladybug sputtered, stepping forward.
"Just did! How do I even know this Miraculous is even yours?" Aristos asked, increasing the distance between them.
Alya got the distinct impression that he was bullshitting them.
"I'm the one who lost it!"
Alya's eyes widened. "You lost a Miraculous?"
"Not helping, Chat!"
Aristos' features twitched, eyes narrowing. "Sure you say it's yours but how do I know that?"
Chat Ombre bristled at the implication. "Ladybug is the Hero of Paris!"
Aristos gave her a once-over, his expression inscrutable, but said nothing.
Wow. Rude.
"That Miraculous belongs to the G- to me."
"That's interesting because I say it belongs to me." Aristos laid a hand on his chest. "Looks like it's your word against mine. Guess which one I'm choosing?"
Ladybug's yo-yo was suddenly spinning in her hand. "I swear, I'm not gonna lose another-"
An insistent beeping from Ladybug's earrings interrupted her.
"Welp! Love to stay and dance but it looks like you two need to buzz off before your precious identities are exposed to little old me."
Why did he sound bitter? Everything about him made Alya's head spin with questions. Not least of which being how the heck someone holding the Bee Miraculous showed up in the first place.
Taking his top, Aristos hopped onto the edge of the Grand Paris' roof. "Might want to deal with her before that happens."
Alya looked to where he was pointing to see Queen Glitter still paralyzed. When she glanced back at the Bee he was gone.
---------------
Adrien's day sucked.
Paris Fashion Week was always a chore but this year was even worse. Despite having friends around he felt lonelier than ever. Getting to talk to Marinette only helped so much. Adrien was still expected to plaster on a smile and represent 'the brand'.
And that was before he got turned into a freaking statue!
At least it's better than mind control.
Shut up!
He did not want to see Ladybug or her new partner up close and personal! Thank you, very much! But like always what Adrien wanted didn't matter.
Imagine his surprise when a Miraculous practically falls into his lap. A familiar glow blooming in his chest against all reason as Adrien opens the box.
"Hello, my King," the unknown, bee-like kwami greets formally.
There's a turning in his stomach that Adrien tries his best to calm it. "H-hi! I'm Adrien. What's your name?"
"I am Pollen," she bowed. "Kwami of Subjection. An honor to meet you. It has been a long time since I've had a king."
"Just Adrien is fine." Taking the Miraculous, a comb of all things, out of it's box Adrien stares at it. It's disguise all black and only vaguely shaped like a bee compared to the details he glimpsed before Pollen came out.
"Of course, my King."
Adrien sighed. Pollen was nothing like Plagg. Then again, Adrien wasn't sure the world could survive two of him. The lazy little jerk was enough to drive any Guardian mad all by himself... God, he missed Plagg.
"Um, anyway, how does your power work?"
Pollen clapped her small appendages together. "It's very straightforward, my King. You simply call out 'Venom' and your top will activate. Then strike your opponent with the point and they'll be paralyzed for however long you desire." She whooshed toward him for emphasis.
"Paralyze..." That was certainly more straightforward than using Cataclysm.
'Cause you sucked at that, didn't you?
Shut up. This was... What was he doing? When Adrien held the Bee in his hands he felt... Alive. Like a promise that things could be better this time around.
Adrien jumped as insistent knocking on his changing room door startled him out of his thoughts.
"M. Agreste? Mme. Sancoeur says we're back on in five."
"Be right out!" Brushing the Miraculous with his thumb to make sure it was really there Adrien placed it in his pocket. Hesitating for a moment he offered his jacket to Pollen.
Nodding, she zoomed into Plagg's old hiding place.
Taking a deep breath, Adrien opened the door. "Let's get this over with."
---------------
Adrien ran off as soon as Papillon's mark appeared on Chloe's face. Catching Marinette doing the same from the corner of his eye. Glass raining down as Queen Glitter broke through the Grand Palais' roof.
Pollen zipping out as he tied his hair into a makeshift ponytail. Holding it in place with the Bee Miraculous.
"Quickly, my King! Say 'Pollen, transforme-moi'!"
Adrien stared at her. He could hear screaming as people ran.
"My King!"
His oldest friend just got akumatized for the second time.
"My King!"
All he had to do was speak!
"Adrien!"
His knees shook as his back hit the wall behind him for support. "But... I wasn't chosen."
Pollen floated higher as her eyes widened in surprise. "Weren't you given my Miraculous?"
Adrien shook his head. "I f-found it... After giving up the Black Cat."
This time Pollen dipped as she nearly fell out of the air. "Chat Noir."
Adrien shook his head even more emphatically. Hands going up to cover his face. "N-no! Not him! Can't be him!" he choked.
Pollen laid her hand on his and Adrien tensed at the touch. "My King."
Something in her voice made Adrien look at her.
"You wish to help, do you not?"
"... Yes."
Pollen's eyes softened. "Then help."
Adrien stared at her. So sure that she'd want nothing to do with him once she knew what a failure he was... But that wasn't the case.
Rising shakily to his feet Adrien gave Pollen a grateful smile. "Pollen, transforme-moi'."
----------------
Aristos panted as he glanced up from the alleyway. Spotting no pursuers. "Pollen, detransforme-moi."
Landing on Adrien's outstretched palms, Pollen beamed tiredly at him. "Excellent work, my King."
Adrien smiled back. "Oh! What do you eat? Plagg loves Camembert but..."
"That would be fine. However, I prefer something sweeter."
"Yeah..." A weight settled on his chest. "Let's see what we can find..."
Pollen frowned. "Is something wrong, my King?"
Adrien avoided her gaze. What was he supposed to say? That disobeying Ladybug felt wrong? That he almost let his guilt and resentment make him say cruel things to his replacement? That his heart wouldn't stop pounding? "It's just... Do you want to go back?"
Pollen blinked.
"You're supposed to listen to the Guardian, right?" Adrien bit his lip as his heart tried jumping up his throat. "It's not fair of me to keep you if you want to go back."
Pollen sat up on his palms. "I have been in the Miracle Box for a long time, my King. I can think of worse things than spending what time I have outside it with you."
Adrien's eyes burned as he wiped away tears. "Thanks, Pollen."
Ladybugs swirled in the sky as they repaired the city.
"Of course, my King," Pollen smiled.
"Call me Adrien."
"Yes, my King."
Adrien sighed. A smile coming to his lips. Looks like Aristos was sticking around for a while.
Thoughts and Reaction to Gang of Secrets!
I'm very late today at writing this because life ;-; You know it's a bigger episode when they start off with a problem. Ladybug doesn't want to detransform so she's desperate to find reasons to remain Ladybug. I love how the entire time, Chat Noir knows something's wrong and wants to get her to talk about what it is, but she just tries to pretend she's fine. If anything, Chat Noir would probably be the best person to talk to considering everything he's dealt with too both with Kagami and his responsibility as Chat! She could mention that she was seeing someone but they broke up because of her secret, and she could tell him how much being the Guardian's having an affect on her. All perfectly well and good without exposing any identities or things like that with questions for details asked. Instead she puts up a front with him and pretends she's okay in front of him and it's just so sad. :/ I understand why she doesn't, probably because she doesn't want him to know how much she's struggling. But ugh my heart hurts for her. Chat: I know where we can go where we won't have to talk! Ladybug: Yes, take me there Chat! *in the theater* Ladybug: You lead me into a trap. I MEAN HE'S NOT WRONG THOUGH! Not many places you can go where it's okay or encouraged to not talk without there being an awkward silence. But that cracked me UP. Also that casual attempt to wrap his arm around her lolol still hasn't give up, I see. I also find it simultaneously hilarious and extremely depressing that Ladybug's ranting like that in the theater because of a romance movie. When your heart is broken, that's probably the last thing you want to be doing. And Chat Noir yanking her down asking that she be quiet 😂 Literally just rants her entire love life out for everyone including Chat to hear in that theater. CHAT NOIR, YOU BETTER BE LISTENING BECAUSE SHE'S TALKING ABOUT ADRIEN HERE "She takes a long time to tell him and stutters and blah blah blah" lol sound familiar, sunshine? If anything please have him recall this later and be like, wait, didn't Ladybug say girls stutter around a guy when she likes him? BAM. Then he's off on his path towards Marinette. I can dream. Ladybug: And how do you know if he loves her? IMPOSSIBLE. Adrien: No, Marinette couldn't possibly be in love with me. *eyetwitch* But at the end of the day. This is Marinette ranting to Adrien about how she had to give up on Adrien and then couldn't make things work with Luka because of her secret. Ooof. And poor Chat having to apologize for everyone because Ladybug's disturbing them XDD THE GIRL SAVES EVERYBODY'S LIVES PRACTICALLY EVERY DAY AND THEY'RE PISSED SHE'S RUINING A MOVIE THEY CAN JUST REWATCH? 😂 She's clearly having a hard time right now, c'mon people! Chat can tell she has a broken heart. This boy is so sweet. He wants her to at least admit that and talk about it so she can feel better but you know, Ladybug's stubborn. I WANT TO GO SWIMMING LET'S GO SWIMMING CHAT, WOO HOOOOOO! Ladybug acting like Chat to hide her pain just like how Chat acts like Chat to hide his pain. YOU KNOW WHAT, IT'S FINE. :') It doesn't matter how much pain she's dealing with, those pictures mean too much to her to remove them. x3 Thanks Juleka for showing us how sad Luka is now, that's very helpful. Marinette's been going into the bathroom at school to cry, and then had planned stupid looking glasses to hide her tears so people wouldn't have to know she's cried because wearing a ridiculous pair of glasses that's embarrassing is better than being asked what's wrong. Because the pain I feel for her wasn't already enough. Ugh I adore Trixx. Trixx being the voice of reason when Tikki's not there, trying to help and letting her know that Tikki may need to rest too when she's so upset it doesn't cross her mind. And the tears in her eyes when she apologizes to Tikki for not thinking of her like she should. ;-; SO MUCH PAIN. OH DANG Alya was literally a second away from seeing a detransforming Marinette lol But she did say DETRANSFORMATION or well in the English dub it'll be "Spots
off" I love Rose, she's really sweet. and considerate But she also shouldn't be touching things in others rooms like that. I never liked it when my friends went around my room touching stuff. Also didn't help that a couple of them stole from me... but it's just not a cool thing to do. Would've probably ended up much better had she not had to desperately hide an exposed Miracle Box. But then we wouldn't have had what happens so it's all good c: Marinette saying she doesn't want to be friends with the girls anymore
Tumblr media
It hit Alya deep. Everyone else is like *le gasp* but her eyes all shrunken like that, you can tell it really got to her hard.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This entire exchange right here. Alya's glance at her in the first picture is piercing, like I can feel that OOF feeling in my chest when I see it. The new music dramatizes it so well that a lot of people probably didn't pay attention to it the first time around. Can we just appreciate how these animators got all these emotions so right and did such a good job animating everything for us? And those that work on the music too? Everything's so spot on. Marinette's red-rimmed eyes is so well done. "No, it can't end like this!" Awww Alix getting super upset too x3 I honestly think Alix could be the next one.... you know what I mean BUT I'll wait until the end to talk about it. Trixx pulling a Plagg and rescuing Marinette! x3 I seriously love Trixx, I really do. I know the other Kwami's got mad, but if he hadn't done that it would've been disaster, probably. And the episode wouldn't have ended how it did! And Plagg knowing it was Trixx who caused the Eiffel Tower to be all weird xD Why do I get the feeling the relationship between Trixx and Plagg would be like that of Chat Noir and Rena Rouge? And I want to point out, we got 7 whole seconds of Adrien again! Aren't we lucky? The last time we got so little of Adrien in an episode was when we had his parallel episode Lies. I don't think that'll happen this time but I do hope it means more Adrien later on. Ladybug: They're after Marinette Dupain-Cheng. Chat Noir: Okay but remember everybody likes her (so don't go thinking she's a bad person for causing their akumatizations) Yes, I read between the lines. Ladybug being able to get through to Lady Wifi and have her deakumatize herself was absolutely amazing! I know Chloe was the first to fight off being akumatized but once you're akumatized it's obviously extremely hard to break. That says a lot about Alya. "Because you're an incredible friend, Ladybug." One, AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW Two, did you notice the little jerk of her head, gesturing to Ladybug like that when she said it?? It's the little details guys that make this so good. 😍 "Chat Noir, nooooo!" Guys, we got our tiny little Marichat scene! It's not actually real, but still! (okay but why do I also get this really weird feeling like something like this may end up being real later?) Alya giving Ladybug that hug 😭 Marinette has such good, supportive friends. I love them all. x.x YES THANK YOU. Alya's finally realizing there are more things going on with her than just boys. One of the things that's always irked me since Chameleon is that any issue Marinette has, be it with Lila or otherwise, she always assumes it has to do with Adrien. Of course, at the time she didn't know she was Ladybug but she should've still listened and realized there's something else up. But now she finally is noticing and I love how she was going to respect her regardless and not push. Pushing has always been one of Alya's characteristics, but she knew whatever it was was something too big and serious to push her on. "Marinette, I'm your best friend, and I always will be." 😭😭😭 This episode brought me so close to tears so many times. Marinette admitting she's keeping secrets, lying to everyone. Admitting that that's why she draws a line between her and Adrien, and why her and Luka didn't work out. Alya saying however heavy it is, they'll carry it together (MY HEART) And then Marinette saying "If I tell you, things between us will never be the same. It's going to destroy everything, change it all." It sounds like this girl is thinking about Chat Blanc and oop there's the sound of my heart breaking again. So much paaaain. "Je suis Ladybug." YESSSSSSS Why they had to leave it off on a cliffhanger But YESSSSSSS First, the expressions she had flash on her face, the gasp 😮, then the expression like she's trying to get her mind to process. Then if you notice, Marinette gives a little nod, as if letting her know that it's true. Then the way her eyebrows furrow and pulls her into the hug as she understands all that she has on her shoulders as that music plays. I'm getting
emotional just writing this. 😭 This episode is just so amazingly good in so many ways, I don't think I can actually cover it all. I'm very impressed. I've loved nearly every episode this show has put out, even those that a lot of people seem to hate. But this one, I don't see how this could actually be hated if you're trying to think of everything that happened from Marinette's point of view, her thoughts, feelings, struggles, depression. I will say, personally I hoped Chat Noir would learn who Ladybug is first. He's been such a good partner, very thoughtful, always putting his life on the line. He's also been dealing with a lot of the same struggles. I felt like he deserved to know first. However, this isn't about who deserves what, it's about what Marinette needs. It's not that she doesn't want to tell him who she is! Don't misunderstand. There are many times throughout the past 3 seasons where she wants to or regrets not being able to. But now, Chat Blanc's in her mind. She knows what could happen if she tells him with Hawk Moth still there, so she can't do it. So instead, she tries to pretend in front of him that she's fine even though talking to him about everything would help and fix so much. In her mind, that's not an option. I just hope that when he finds out she told someone else first, he doesn't think that she doesn't trust him enough to tell him. Next I thought maybe Alix. That way it'd be more understandable to Chat that she'd know, after all future Bunnyx clearly knows and said to Ladybug that she chose her because she's capable of keeping secrets (notice how Alya said that to Ladybug in the alley? I bet Alix will find out in the near future. Maybe not this season, but she'll find out.) But that's for another time. But now Alya knows! Her best friend, the one to have her back and will no doubt have it even more so now! Watch out, Lila. Alya doesn't hold back so I can imagine how vicious she could be to her (and I can't wait). And that brings up a very interesting thought. Alya will realize Adrien has been the only one to have her back in Lila situations. Why would he do that, hmm? When everyone else was so sure Lila's an angel and Marinette must be bad for saying anything negative about her. Journalist Alya, incoming! There's also the matters of Alya bringing up Marinette's feelings for Chat Noir because duh, everybody can see how much she loves him! There are even photos of them kissing, one of which happened in front of Alya's own eyes! Though affected by an akuma, they all know that kiss didn't happen because of it. And of course, Alya has brought up twice in the show so far that Adrien and Chat Noir could be the same person. And last time Alya said that neither of them could be Ladybug and Chat Noir. Except, she's now found out that Marinette is Ladybug. So maybe Adrien could after all be Chat Noir. I look forward to seeing how their new dynamic is. I wonder how this affects their relationship with the other girls. And I'm most curious about how Nino and Adrien may react to this change. I thought during Truth and Lies both that their best friends were going to find out about their breakups. Gang of Secrets was Alya finding out. Even though I feel like another parallel episode is just wishful thinking, I can't help but think it may be a possibility. Nino and the boys are going to wonder what's up with Adrien too. They're going to wonder why he's not with Kagami anymore so suddenly. So what if i the end, Chat Noir ends up telling Nino? I could see it, if this takes place shortly after Gang of Secrets, where she tells Chat that she's confided her identity in a very close friend and somehow they agree that he can tell someone too that he trusts to make it fair. It'd be an amazing way to exercise Ladybug's trust in Chat Noir too. Then we'd have both Alya and Nino in on it, keeping their best friend's secrets for them without knowing about the other one. Oh that'd be so beautiful! And also let them keep their Miraculouses too after the charms are given to them and Alya has the ability to break
free after being akumatized. I adore Rena and Carapace so much I'd be ecstatic if they kept them. 😭 Anyway, so much potential can come out of this episode and I honestly cannot wait until episode 4!!
It was well known for people to act differently around people that they like.
Some people aren't even recognizable when their crush walks past them.
But.
Marinette was well known shy and bubbly.
So when she was having a crush on anyone, dosen't matter girl or boy.
You won't exactly know.
And this is how it started...
✎؂
"C'mon girl, you gotta tell your feelings to Lila! I'm sure she'll accept them, I mean come on! You'll be couple goals." Complained Alya as she tried to help her friend.
"I-I don't know Alya...I'm not sure if she's into- you know what I mean..." stutters Mari as her face started to get pink.
"You never know until you try babe!" Alya pulls her into a hug.
Marinette, shocked by the hug, could feel herself start tearing up as she hugged her bestfriend close and tight.
✎؂
"Hey girl! I have something for you." Says Alya as she runs to the girl's locker as the school day ended.
"Yes?" Says Lila surprised by the excitement.
Alya gives Lila a letter with a heart on it.
"I've gotta go, mom said I need to babysit! Byeeee" says Alya as she runs with her boyfriend.
Lila smiles at the girl.
She opens the letter and reads it.
'Hey...wanna meet me at the backyard of the school? I mean it's fine if you say no! -^^'
Lila looked around to see if anyone could have send her the letter.
'Ok. Let's do this.'
✎؂
Marinette was shaking.
While she kept her eyes into the ground trying to keep herself from having a panic attack.
"HEY! Marinette, you wanted to meet me here?" Says a voice that makes Mari jump.
Mari's cheeks go a little red when she sees who was there.
"Y-yea."
"So, what's up?" Says Lila as she smiles at the girl.
"I uhm-I really- uh..." Marinette opens her mouth but the words don't came as they should.
Lila sees her starting to panic and speeds infront of her.
"Hey, hey no need to panic. Breath. And then spit." She puts her hands on the short girl's shoulders for support.
Mari sighs deeply.
"Ireallyreallylikeyouilikedyouforawhileandidontwannamakeitweirdyouaredeallykindandohmygodyouresocoolandwholesomeimsososososososososorryishouldnthadcalledyouhereijustdestroyedourfriendship"
Marinette said in Eminem rap god speed.
Tumblr media
Lila opened her mouth in the shape of an 'O' and blinks in confusion trying to comprehend what the short girl just said.
"Come again, just shorter and slower, my brain is too slow for this." She chuckles awkwardly.
Marinette looks at the her hands.
"I-I really, really, really like you, n-no I mean- I l-love you..." Marinette sniffed.
Lila stares in shook of what the girl just said.
Marinette begins to worry and feeling bad for confessing.
Her hands start shake.
"I-I am s-sorry, I s-shouldn't have said a-anything." Marinette sniffed and begins to walk backwards.
Lila wakes up from her shook and runs towards Marinette.
She grabs her hand and pulls her back.
"I'm sorry it was my fault, you got me in shook that's all. Look I'm very proud of you." Lila pats Mari's hair.
Mari stares at her in confusion as some tears fall down her cheek.
"W-why are y-you proud exactly?" Mari asked.
Lila smiles.
"I know how hard is it for you to confess something so big, hell is hard sometimes for you even to talk but I'm really glad you did, it's a start." She looks down at her.
"Look I'm not exactly feeling what you feel. IT'S NOT YOU, I'm not exactly the one with crushes and 'feeling in love'" Lila says mockingly.
Marinette then realized.
"You are aromatic." She says.
Lila winks at her.
"OH GOD, IM SO SORRY IF I MADE YOU UNCOMFORTABLE!" Mari looks at the ground in shame.
Lila moves her head in confusion.
Tumblr media
"No, no babes, you didn't." She laughed.
Marinette looks at Lila and wipe her tears.
She walks up to Lila and hugs her tightly
"Thank you." The short girl whispers.
Lila hugs the girl back feeling like a proud mother.
✎؂
Meeting Damian was a mistake from the start.
They meet at a Gala where Marinette was invited and she couldn't refuse, her heart wouldn't have let her do refuse.
She was sitting alone, her social anxiety stoping her from talking with even a person.
'What the heck am I doing here? Those people are rich and professional. What in the name of god I was th-'
"Hi." A young looking man sit next to her.
Marinette blinks rapidly and turns to the guy.
"H-hi." She turns her head away quickly, not trying to look mean.
After some awkward silence moments the guy started to speak again.
"So...why are you sitting alone while everyone is having fun?" He turns to her.
Marinette opens her eyes and looks at the ground.
"I-I don't want to make people awkward...I-I'm very bad at talking to people in general."
She stutters quietly.
The boy narrowed his eyebrows and then chuckled.
Marinette didn't know if he was mocking her or just straight up annoying her.
"W-what's so funny?" She tries but fails to stutter.
The man smirks and then looks at her, making her more confused.
"Ahem. Nothing special, I just normal think beautiful people are supposed to be confident and aching to show their beauty, but I guess I was wrong"
Marinette's brains shuts down.
Her cheeks go BLOODY RED.
The guy sees her expression and laughs. LAUGHS. DUCKING LAUGHS.
He stops laughing.
"The name's Damian." He holds his hand for a handshake.
"M-Maria, I-I mean M-Marinette" she shyly shakes his hand.
"So Maria-nette?" He dad jokes.
Marinette chuckles.
"So would this beautiful girl give me her number?" He asks.
"W-why, we don't even know each other." She says.
"Well, I would like to know you, Marinette." He pet's her head gently.
"O-ok."
✎؂
They started talking for days, days turned into weeks and the weeks turned into months.
She knew from the start she shouldn't catch feelings for a friend but she couldn't control it.
One day Mari and her friends we're hanging out at the bakery
Mari was showing them the ukulele that her grangran gived her some weeks ago, on her birthday.
"Why don't you try and sing something for us? I've seen you write song with Luka and Kagami before, show us some of you work."
Alix said.
"Agreed" Lila and Adrien said at the same time.
Marinette turned to her friends, about to disagree.
"Pleeeeeeeeeeaaaseeee!" Said Rose.
"O-okay." Mari says as she picked up the ukulele.
sigh
I'm startin' to feel some sort of way
You give me goosebumps every day
And when you look at me and smile I wanna say
"I think you're okay"
×
I guess I'll stop here and not hint at all
That you're one I've fallen for
But if you ever think of me as anything more
I'll be here at your....call
'Is this for Damian?' A girl asked.
'IT IS, LOOK HOW SHE BLUSHED AWWW' a guy shouted.
The live stops some minutes later when the LadyBlogger realizes she was live.
Damian stared shocked at his phone as Jon showed him a video leak of Marinette singing.
He was frozen.
'Mari...likes me?'  That's all he could think of.
"Man, I feel bad for her. Imagine how bad she's feeling."
Damian opened his phone and got straight up to the message.
Tumblr media
"She doesn't answer me." He says.
"Bruh, obviously she won't, she feels bad. You didn't get the memo? She's shy and has social anxiety. It's not gonna be easy." Jon explains the obvious.
After minutes of silence, Jon's phone rings.
"That's me, gotta go, dad's gonna beat my ass if I don't show up to dinner" Jon looks at his phone.
"I should go too. Talk to you later." Says Damian, not really paying attention to anything that was happening.
✎؂
As he walked infront of the bakery, he could see Marinette helping her parents to close the bakery, meaning that the parents were going on vacation.
He rushed to enter.
"Hello? Is this still opened?" He asked even the obvious answer is that they were closed.
"No sweet sir, we are cl-" as Marinette's gaze meet his she closed he mouth in shock.
"What exactly 'cl' mean, blossom?" he jokes while smiling.
"Damian, what are you doing here?" She asks avoiding his eye contact.
He chuckles. FUXINGDICKEAD
"That's not a nice way to greet your future boyfriend darling" (smooth bastard)
Marinette.exe stopped working
Marinette just passed out.
The parents walked in
Alya Will Definitely Become the Permanent Holder of the Fox Miraculous in the Future
The latest episode made it seem as if Alya was the Fox Miraculous Holder just once, but this will definitely not be the case. This was just the beginning.
Let's start by looking at the important parts of the latest episode when it comes to this aspect.
After Marinette had arrived to Master Fu's massage shop, he decided that Marinette's Miraculous was suggesting that Ladybug and Cat Noir would need help dealing with the Akuma this time. Despite this, he still was not sure if letting another Miraculous to be used would be a good idea, especially since he had already allowed two Miraculouses (Marinette and Adrien's Miraculouses) in use, fact which by itself was really dangerous. Still, Marinette right away told him that he had had a reason for doing that and that she and Cat Noir had always been very cautious. After listening to Marinette, Master Fu agreed:
Tumblr media
So, Master Fu indeed remembered that he had given the two Miraculouses to Marinette and Adrien for a clear reason. Now that he had a reason to give another one (temporarily), he just knew he had to do it.
Then, Master Fu told Marinette to choose someone she completely trusted in order to help her with that mission. This way, Master Fu would basically test both Marinette's ability to make good choices when it comes to picking an ally and the chosen person. Master Fu then added that while the Miraculous Spellbook hadn’t revealed all of its secrets, he couldn't let the Miraculous in the nature for too long, so Marinette had to return it to him right after the mission ended:
Tumblr media
Marinette immediately thought of Alya and decided to offer her the Fox Miraculous for this mission. Despite not knowing who Marinette had chosen, Master Fu was glad that Marinette was able to find someone.
Then, Ladybug went to Alya and asked her if she wanted to help her and Cat Noir. Alya of course agreed and right away wanted to send a message to Marinette about this, but Ladybug stopped her and said that she had to keep this mission a secret and had not to tell any friends or update her Ladyblog about it:
Tumblr media
Alya understood this. Marinette then offered her the Fox Miraculous and told her that she needed to give back the Miraculous once the mission was over. She then asked Alya if she could trust her and Alya assured her of this:
Tumblr media
After the mission had successfully been completed, all Marinette had to do was take back the Fox Miraculous to Master Fu. So, she thanked Alya for the help and reminded her that she needed to give back the Miraculous. Alya tried to convince Ladybug that they'd make a wonderful team and that she could be of help every day, but Marinette told her that she had promised she would return the Miraculous after the mission ended. Then, Marinette had to detransform and, right before she entered a building in order not to be seen, she told Alya she trusted her:
Tumblr media
Then, Trixx entered the discussion and started telling Alya that she would make a great team with Ladybug and Cat Noir, since she has all the qualities of a superheroine: bravery, strength and trustworthiness. Trixx definitely mentioned the trustworthy aspect on purpose. He had listened to Alya and Ladybug's conversation carefully and knew that Alya had promised to give back the Miraculous. He definitely listed the first two aspects of Alya genuinely since she had proved that she was both brave and strong, but when he also mentioned trustworthiness, he was actually testing her. Trixx wanted to see if Alya would respect her promise since being trustworthy represents a huge part of being a hero, especially when working along with other heroes. They need to know that they can trust each other completely. Trixx's words made Alya reflect on the situation and she understood that giving back the Miraculous was the right thing to do:
Tumblr media
Alya then returned the Miraculous and Marinette was extremely glad for this. Another aspect that is really important is that Alya could have easily found out who Ladybug was if she had just entered that building. Alya had been trying to find out who Ladybug was for so long and she could have easily achieved that in just a second if she had wanted to do that. Despite this, she opened the door just a little bit in order to place the Miraculous inside the building and then closed it. This and the fact that she decided to return the Miraculous show complete character development and prove that Alya is indeed completely trustworthy and has all the traits of a superheroine, just like Trixx said. Then, Marinette brought the Miraculous back to Master Fu and he told her that she had chosen well:
Tumblr media
Then, Marinette returned to Alya's apartment. Out of excitement, Alya wanted to tell Marinette what had happened, but then she immediately remembered her promise to Ladybug and made up an explanation for what she had wanted to say. She has already learnt how to make excuses really fast and that's good since when she will be the permanent Fox Miraculous Holder, she will need to come up with plenty of those. XD Also, even though Alya had said at the beginning of the episode that she would have told Marinette if she had been Ladybug, she now understood how important is to keep the identity of a hero a secret, thus not saying a word about Rena Rouge. Marinette was glad that Alya didn't tell her anything:
Tumblr media
So, in the end, Alya had greatly helped both Cat Noir and Ladybug and also kept all promises she had made to Ladybug. All of these show that she is definitely capable of becoming a long-time superheroine.
Now, why am I saying that Alya will definitely become the permanent Holder of the Fox Miraculous?
Well, let's start with the intro.
In the opening sequence, we have these extremely important parts:
Tumblr media
These parts are extremely telling and basically show us who the main characters will be in the future.
As we can clearly see, there will be another villain besides Hawk Moth who will probably be even more dangerous than him. The new villain will be the Peacock Miraculous Holder and might ally with Hawk Moth in order to try to finally defeat Ladybug and Cat Noir.
A new villain would definitely mean that Ladybug and Cat Noir would need help, but not just for a few missions. Considering that in the latest episode they needed help despite there being just a villain at that moment, they will definitely need to be aided all the time when there will be two villains. Handling two villains all by themselves would definitely be too much, so this is why new superheroes have to arrive and help them.
Also, as it was confirmed in the latest episode, Hawk Moth now knows that there are more Miraculouses in Paris and also suspects that there might even be a guardian:
Tumblr media
Now, besides wanting Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculouses, Hawk Moth will definitely begin searching for the other Miraculouses as well. Anticipating this, Master Fu will probably hide the Miraculouses very carefully and inform Marinette of their location. When the Peacock Miraculous Holder will show up, Master Fu will understand that he will need to give several more Miraculouses in order to make sure Ladybug and Cat Noir receive all the help they need. He will probably hesitate at first just like he has done in the latest episode, but he will remember that he has to do everything he can to make sure Paris is fully protected. Also, just like it has happened with the Fox Miraculous, Master Fu will know that there is a clear reason for allowing more Miraculouses to be used and that he has to do this no matter what, but this time not just for once. He will also remember that every time he has put his trust in Marinette (and Adrien), he has done the right thing. Marinette and Adrien never disappointed him when it comes to their fights against the Akumas and Marinette also proved that she is definitely able to choose great comrades.
Master Fu will probably be the one to decide to let exactly the remaining 3 main Miraculouses in use, including his own since the Turtle Miraculous is also a part of the 7 main ones.
By this point, both Chloé and Nino will have already somehow proved that they have the qualities needed to become superheroes, just like Alya did in the latest episode. Both of them will most likely receive an episode concentrated on themselves, in which they will either get to use their future Miraculouses just like Alya and show they're capable of owning them or they will prove that they have the required qualities in another way. What is clear is that they will somehow be tested and after basically passing the tests, they will definitely prove their worthiness to become true heroes. Despite the fact that, like Alya, both of them will probably struggle at first when it comes to keeping their word or when it comes to something else related to the needed superhero qualities, they will eventually understand what the right thing to do is, thus proving themselves.
Considering that he has already tested Marinette's ability to choose wisely and has seen that she is definitely able to do that, Master Fu will probably tell Marinette to give the 3 remaining main Miraculouses to the three people that have helped her and Cat Noir most during their fights against the Akumas. By this time, those three people will have of course proved to be Alya, Chloé and Nino. Master Fu himself will definitely tell Marinette that the one person who should get the Fox Miraculous is the one who has already used it before and has proved to be able to control it really well. This will also be the case for both Chloé and Nino if they get to use exactly their future Miraculouses before this moment.
Also, as it was confirmed in the latest episode, there are 19 Miraculouses in total. Still, out of those 19 Miraculouses, only 7 of them appear in the intro. This is exactly because of the fact that, while the other 12 Miraculouses (which represent the 12 Chinese Zodiac Animals) will be used once at most (during a final battle or something like this), the 7 main Miraculouses will be used all the time starting from a given moment in the future.
Also, when the new villain will appear, the Miraculous Spellbook will probably reveal all of its secrets, fact which will also contribute to Master Fu's decision to allow the remaining 3 main Miraculouses in use.
In conclusion, this episode was simply a test for Alya which was meant to show that she does have the qualities of a true superheroine. It basically represented the introduction of Rena Rouge and Trixx. Such episodes (or at least similar episodes) will also definitely appear for both Chloé and Nino. These episodes have to exist in order for the new three heroes to be able to be chosen easily when the time for them to fully join the team comes.
This was just the beginning of Rena Rouge and Trixx. (=^w^=)
fic: it's a different kind of danger and my feet are spinning around
fandom: miraculous ladybug
characters/pairings:  adrien agreste, marinette dupain-cheng, ladybug, ladrien,
summary: It was sometimes easier to talk to a stranger than to a friend.
notes: i belated realized that i had posted this fic to ao3 but not to here
After patrol, her route home takes her past the Agreste Manor and most nights when she threw a glance at Adrien's window, she doesn't know which windows are his, but all the lights are off. An early riser, she decided, which is something she and Chat could never be, not with their schedules.
But then one morning, she overheard a sleepy conversation between Nino and Adrien, when Nino asked if Adrien slept well. Adrien yawningly complained of a midnight shoot, his breath coming out in white plumes in the early morning, his blue scarf wrapped around his neck snugly and it's only because of Alya that Marinette doesn't walk into the wall or the door.
Alya half-heartedly moaned at Marinette, at her Adrien State, but Alya knew she's not listening. Alya sighed, tightening her grip on Marinette to make it easier to steer. Marinette adjusts her previous assumption that Adrien is an early riser, he's just working so hard that he can't help but pass out when he's finally home. Her heart ached in sympathy for him, couldn't they give him a break?
She wished she could help but she couldn't even form proper sentences around him, what could she do?
~~~~~~~~~*
 "You okay, man?" Nino asked one morning, "You're even quieter than usual, today."
Marinette wasn't trying to eavesdrop but she was incurably curious, so she listened carefully while Alya stared at her bemusedly with her head in her hand.
Adrien closed his eyes and nodded, leaning on his desk.
"Should I get Ladybug to cheer you up?" Nino teased and Marinette froze, her emotions like butterflies at Spring Break.
So preoccupied with her own feelings that she nearly missed the way Adrien pinked before he covered his face with his hand and chuckled softly. "I'm fine, Nino."
Her heart stuttered as she stared at him, how even the smallest smile from him was like sunlight and she felt like a starving plant. Suddenly Alya had both her hands on Marinette's cheeks and was telling her to breathe, did she forget to breathe again? She inhaled softly and Alya patted her head with a smirk.
"I hate it when you do that," Alya complained and Marinette apologized while leaning on Alya's shoulder, breathing into Alya's neck until Alya giggled and squirmed away from her.
"Stop it! Alright, I forgive you!" Alya said, straightening and fluffed her hair as she eyed Marinette.
She would visit Adrien, Marinette decided. Chat had also been upset although he tried to hide it from her, and although she couldn't help him because they weren't meeting up today but just maybe she could help Adrien. It was sometimes easier to talk to a stranger than to a friend.
~~~~~~~~~*
 Ladybug was outside his window.
He gasped, trying not to freak out because SHE.IS.RIGHT.THERE .
He stammered in his rush to invited her in. She's very shy, with a soft voice and bright blue eyes and apologized for visiting so late. He's taken back to the first they met, as Chat Noir and Ladybug, where she was so unsure and kept apologizing.
Finally, he placed a hand on her shoulder, trying to calm her. He's trying not to freak out and trying to cling to his cool but he pretty sure it's not working. His mouth opened finally to speak but she cut him off.
“Sorry but if you start then I'll lose my nerve and everything will be for nothing,” She apologized quickly and he chuckled slightly, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly.
“I've heard you had a bad day and I know you like Ladybug, I mean me and I just thought-I just thought that maybe you'd like a friend who'll listen or I mean-” She cut off as he laughed softly, she tried to bury her face in her hands.
“S-so you're offering to be my friend?” He stuttered, his cheeks aflame, trying to make sure he understood her and he couldn't stop the smile that grew on his face when she nodded.
“A friend who you can talk to, no matter what,” Ladybug said, staring at her feet, peeking at him when she thought he wasn't looking. “The mask helps with that, it's easier to talk to someone you don't know about your problems, than someone you do,”
“I-I'd like that,” He replied softly, a lot softer than he meant to and his face still too red for his liking. He was gifted with her dazzling smile and his heart soared. He gestured for her sit somewhere and she curled up onto a corner of the couch.
He sat down on the other side of the couch and glanced at her where she's examining his room. “So....so where I do begin?”
She smiled softly at him and he swore his heart stopped. Would his cheeks ever not be red?
She regarded him for a minute before speaking. “You can start wherever you want. You can just talk, Adrien, talk about anything you have on your mind or, want to talk about.”
He stared at her for a second, considering for a second before he raked his hair back before Adrien sighed out a word.
“Mom. My mom, she-, it was her birthday today.”
~~~~~~~~~*
 She left somewhere after midnight, or just before, but she left him lighter. He felt as if he would float away if he didn't concentrate on keeping his feet firm on the ground. He climbed into bed with a small smile and even Plagg snuggled closer to him before they both fell asleep.
~~~~~~~~~*
 The moment she saw him, she just reacted, not really thinking about anything other than the fact that Adrien is in danger.
She swung, grabbed him around the waist and flung them both of them in the air. Honestly, it's probably really not her best rescue but cut her some slack her, it's Adrien. She tried really hard not think about the fact that his arms were around her neck. She more aware of his touch than she should be and she tried to take a shallow deep breath.
She really didn't think around him. She felt like smacking herself up the head.
Her feet barely touched the top of the building they landed on before they're flying again, this time they headed to the closest tall building, to the Agreste Manor.
She tightened her grip on his waist, ridiculously scared she would drop him even though she never dropped anyone as Ladybug before. His breath, she feels hotly on her neck, hitched and she worried for the next seconds that she hurt him.
The moment they're both safe on the building, she turned to look at him critically, trying to spot his injuries. His cheeks were ruddy from the flight, Marinette decided but she didn't find any wounds.
“Are you okay?” She asked, her voice soft as she stepped away. He shifted from foot to foot before looking up at her from under his lashes. Marinette was struck speechless by him and his sheer beauty. Even after meeting him as Ladybug, he still was the sun to her.
“You saved my life again.” His voice was breathless but the awe in his voice was still heard. Ladybug's cheeks were aflame as she smiled slightly. In the distance, Ladybug hears the Akuma raging and ranting and she sighed.
“You should probably go,” He mumbled, sounding as if he didn't want her to leave but knew she would. She blew out her breath slowly and reached out to put her hands on his shoulders, but stopped mid-air. She froze.
“My La-Ladybug?”
Her small smile stayed, though she stuttered as she looked him in the eye and slowly pulled back her arms. “In a minute, I know my partner is probably already there and I trust him. I need to make sure you're okay.”
There's no mistaking it now, his cheeks were still red as he caught her hand lightly. She tried not to react, she tried not to blush and failed massively, though she had hoped her mask covered most of the blush.
“I'm okay,” He mumbled softly and she nodded slightly before stepping away, her hand tingly and cold.
“Then, I'll see you later, h-,” The last word got stuck in her throat and her cheeks were aflame with the near slip-up and she gave him slight salute before she threw her yo-yo so fast that she didn't have time to look back.
She was going to die when she actually thought about it but for now, she needed to focus on defeating the Akuma. She needed to focus, she slapped her cheeks slightly to get her head in the game. Focus.
She and Chat arrived at the same time. Chat couldn't stop smiling stupidly and she herself couldn't keep her own focus properly on the Akuma. It took them longer than it should have, but they defeated the Akuma finally with goofy tired smiles and the customary fists bumped.
And after, she swore her hands didn't stop tingling where Adrien touched her until way after the battle.
~~~~~~~~~*
 She visited him now, mostly on bad days, he didn't know how she knew but she always left him feeling lighter. She always left with hands that were too cold and were tingling until long after they said goodbye.

What's Best for You is Not Best for Me
Summary: A year after his "retirement" as Chat Noir, Adrien sits across from a mask-less Ladybug.
------------------
"Found you," Marinette said, breaking the silence.
Adrien looked up from his hot chocolate to look at her properly. "Should've known you'd figure it out eventually." He tried for a smile. "You always were stubborn."
Marinette let out a puff of air that might have been a laugh. The steam from her own mug curling with her breath. "You seem to be taking... this well." She gestured at herself.
"Ladybug and Marinette are both amazing," Adrien stated matter-of-factly, "Putting both of them together is easy." He looked away from her, staring at a random pile of snow on the other side of the window... "Why? Is it so hard to believe Adrien Agreste was Chat Noir?"
Marinette stared at him for a moment. "... No," she decided. "It's not hard at all."
This time Adrien's lips twitched upwards by themselves. "Had to think about it, huh?"
"Well, you're not as straightforward as you like everyone to believe!" Marinette defended herself. She narrowed her eyes at him but his brief, genuine smile filled her with a nostalgic longing. "I missed you."
"Oh," Adrien rubbed the back of his neck, "It has been a few days."
"You know that's not what I meant."
Adrien looked away again. "I know... I missed you too."
Wistfulness filled Marinette's eyes. "It was always more fun with you around."
"You seem to be handling it just fine without me, Marinette."
"... Actually," she slid an octagonal box across the table, "we could use some help."
Adrien stared at it as his heartbeat echoed in his ears.
"That's why I wanted to talk. To ask you to come b-"
"No."
"... No?"
"You don't need a Black Cat."
"I don't want a Black Cat! I want Chat Noir! I... I need you, Adrien."
Liar. Adrien swallowed the burning frost that rose in his throat. She always told him that. And she always believed it... but he didn't. Not anymore. Yet, still it warmed him to hear them again. And the frost thawed. Just a little bit. "Thank you. For saying that. But Alya has you covered."
"Please, Adrien. I made a mistake! I know that! I-"
Adrien's hand reached out for Marinette's and held it tightly. "Oh? Was trusting Alya a mistake then?"
Marinette trembled in his grip.
"I'll give you a hint: the correct answer is No."
Her vision blurred and she wiped at her eyes hurriedly. Refusing to cry in front of him. Not when he'd lost so much more... "I never mean to hurt you, Adrien."
He gave her a sad smile. "I know."
"..." Marinette pulled her hand out of his grasp and straightened her back. She stared at the octagonal box that held Adrien's ring. He didn't even touch it. "You're sure?" she couldn't help asking.
Nodding, Adrien fiddled with his still warm cup. "You needed help and got it from your best friend. I needed help too. But I couldn't get it as Chat Noir. Because it wasn't Chat Noir that needed it..."
Marinette's expression fell but the guilt she kept in her heart seemed to loosen ever so slightly.
"I'm... happy now," Adrien was as surprised by his own words as Marinette. "I'm finally choosing what makes me happy! Not what will please someone else. I've never had that before. Not really."
Grip around her cup tightening, Marinette kept her face down. "And here I am trying to drag you back."
"I don't blame you for wanting things to go back to how they used to be. Hell, I'm basically an expert in wanting things to stay the same!"
"But they don't. Do they?" Marinette asked, already knowing the answer.
Adrien's gentle, bittersweet smile was his only response.
Bringing her cup to her lips Marinette took a deep, scathing swallow of her drink. The liquid heat grounding her, providing a counterpoint to the vice in her chest. "...Hows the emancipation going?"
"Kagami's been very helpful." Adrien didn't mention the change in topic. "Her lawyers could give Gabriel's a run for their money."
"Aren't they, though?"
He snorted, mirth sparking in Adrien's eyes. "I guess they are."
Marinette took the octagonal box between them and put it back in her pocket. Listening to Adrien as he described the difficulties of breaking free from Gabriel.
Adrien said nothing as she withdrew the Miraculous. Sending a silent apology to Plagg. Relaxing as he opened up to one of his closest friends.

(Written for Adrien August... I'm not sorry)
Bad Luck: Frozer
Summary: Adrien struggles to move on from his first crush so he confides in one of his friends. Or is she more than a friend?
-------------------------------
Chat Noir smiled sadly down at the red rose in his hands. Passion, romance, true love, he recalled in his head.
"Chat?"
Hiding the rose behind his back as he turned around, Chat Noir grinned at the question in Ladybug's eyes. "I have to say that rescuing civilians without a supervillain around is a nice change of pace. Don't you think, My Lady?"
"Not every day you see a hang glider delivery service," she agreed, smiling at the nickname.
Chest suddenly constricting Chat Noir's smile became a touch strained. "Love to stay and chat but this cat's gotta run!" Taking out his baton he extended it, launching himself away.
"Oh! See you la... ter..." Ladybug called to his retreating form.
---------------
Landing in the empty locker room Adrien detransformed in a flash of green light. Plagg stretching as he came out of the ring.
Eyeing Adrien's downcast features, Plagg pried at his holder. "It's not like you to leave Ladybug so abruptly."
"Yeah..." Adrien absently offered a wedge of Camembert to his floating friend who promptly swallowed it whole. "Guess I just need some time to myself."
"So she turned you down. There's plenty of other kinds of cheese!"
Despite himself Adrien smiled. "You need better metaphors."
Plagg shrugged. "You could always take it literally. You can never have enough cheese!"
Adrien rolled his eyes as he changed into his fencing gear. Plagg wasn't as articulate as he thought but... he wasn't wrong...
These thoughts swirled in Adrien's head as he joined Kagami at practice.
A mistake he paid for when Kagami knocked him off his feet. Standing, Adrien parried as Kagami lunged. She always gave her all in beating her opponent. Scoring a point he smiled and they retook their positions.
But his heart still wasn't into the sparing session and her next lunge drove him off balance. Her foil poking into his chest.
"Predictable," Kagami chastised.
Eyes narrowing, Adrien's more competitive nature surged forward at her words. Heart beating faster, grip tightening on his foil and-
It was gone as soon as it came.
Leaving Adrien vulnerable to Kagami's strike...
---------------
Adrien stared pensively at his fencing helmet. He knew Ladybug didn't like him the same way he liked her. That wasn't anything new. So why was he-
"What's wrong, Adrien? Usually I like beating you but it's no fun when you make it this easy." Kagami stood in front of him with an unreadable expression.
Adrien gave her a bittersweet smile. "You ever feel like you're stuck, Kagami? Like, no matter how much you try to move forward, nothing will ever, ever change?"
Kagami blinked in surprise as Adrien opened up to her. This wasn't what she was expecting... Sitting next to him Kagami took a moment to collect her thoughts. "Adrien. The biggest mistake a fencer can make isn't choosing the wrong technique. It's choosing the wrong target."
Oh. She liked metaphors too. Well, with his luck to was bound to-
Her hand gently cupped his cheek and turned his head to face her. "So, switch targets."
...Oh. A rose tint colored Adrien's cheeks. Kagami was always beautiful but for some reason... it was especially true just then.
Smiling in encouragement Kagami grabbed her things and walked out of the locker room. Leaving Adrien to his thoughts.
He stared after her for a moment... Launching to his feet Adrien raced after her in a moment of sheer panic and recklessness.
"Kagami!" Adrien practically shouted.
Not having gone far Kagami turned around, puzzled.
Taking a deep breath, heart pounding against his ribs, Adrien let out the thought that propelled him to his feet. "Would you like to go out some time!?"
Kagami's eyes went wide. "Out? As in a date?"
The color on Adrien's cheeks bloomed into scarlet. Suddenly even more self-conscious he rubbed the back of his neck- "Um," -and nodded. His mouth refusing to form words.
Half turning, Kagami gave him a small smile. "I'd like that."
Adrien felt his lips pull into a grin. Heart somersaulting in his chest for some reason.
---------------
"What should I do, Plagg?" Adrien bemoaned. Head thunking onto his computer desk. "I've never been on a date before!"
"Wasn't this your idea?" Plagg flipped through his favorite cheese magazine. He swore this romance nonsense was the silliest invention humans had ever come up with. "If you ask me it's about time you expanded your palate."
"You're no help," Adrien grumbled. Lifting his head up Adrien swiveled around to look at Plagg. "What if I asked Father or Nathalie for advice?"
"Sure." Plagg stretched lazily. "If ya want them to know about you and sword girl."
Sighing, Adrien discounted that idea. "Oh! We can ask the Gorilla!"
"I don't know," Plagg mused, "doesn't seem like a good idea."
"You just don't like it 'cause he found your Camembert stash that time," Adrien teased, poking Plagg lightly.
"It was perfectly edible! How could he!?"
Chuckling at his antics, Adrien thought about who he could go to for advice...
---------------
Adrien tried not to hurry ahead of Kagami into the ice rink proper. The chill making his arm hairs stand on end. His breath sharp in his throat. Heart beating with a mix of excitement and nervousness. Asking Marinette had been a great idea!
He turned back to see Alya and Nino slowly catch up. If only she could have made it. But that essay on periwinkle migration sounded important to her... Oh, Chloe's dad was here.
As they put on their skates Adrien glanced at Kagami out of the corner of his eye. Scooting closer to Nino he whispered: "Thanks for coming last minute, Nino."
"Hey, no problem dude! Anything for my bro." Nino's grin was a tad forced and his eyes drifted to something behind Adrien before snapping back.
"I don't know what to do with Kagami."Adrien admitted, leaning in. "Should I... offer to hold her hand?"
"Yes!" Nino snapped his fingers and held up finger guns at Adrien. His eyes flickered away again. "I mean, no! I mean- Why don't you take it slow?"
Adrien turned around to see what Nino was looking at but it was just Alya smiling politely, hands behind her back. Probably waiting patiently for him to finish with her boyfriend.
Straightening, Adrien smiled at her. "Thanks for coming, Alya."
"No big deal! Just a double date, right!" Alya smiled wide in an attempt to draw attention away from her accidental inflection.
"...Right." Adrien politely declined to comment on it.
"Anyway!" Alya grabbed Nino's hand and dragged him off. "We'll let you two get to it!"
Adrien turned back to Kagami, who was tying her skates. Hesitantly, he made his way over and stood beside her.
"Don't be scared," Kagami promised conspiratorially as she looked up, "I won't tell anyone."
"About what?" Adrien asked slowly.
"That you don't know how to tie your laces," she teased, kneeling down to do just that. Once done Kagami smiled at him, grabbed his hand and led him onto the ice.
---------------
"I can't believe you agreed to this!" Alya stage whispered. Arm locked tightly around Nino's elbow as they skated on the opposite side of the rink.
"Aw, c'mon Als. Y'know I couldn't leave my bro hanging like that!" Nino widened his eyes and tried to sparkle them like Adrien had. "He gave me the look. How could I say no to that?"
"I know..." Alya sighed. The crease between her eyes softening from accusation to guilt. "I just..." Adrien and Kagami caught her eye as they skated hand in hand. "Feel like I'm betraying my girl just by being here."
Nino patted her hand and gave her a soft smile. "I'm sure the dudette will understand." His gaze drifted towards Adrien and Kagami. "Besides... I don't think she'd want to see this."
"Hey, young man! Have you ever thought about signing up for ice skating lessons!?"
--------------
Kagami turned her head as Alya and Nino skated past them on their lap. "Did you invite them because you were scared of being alone with me?"
"Of course not!" Adrien lied, waving his hand to ward off her words. "It's just... that I asked Nino to help... me."
Her brow creased. "Help you with what?"
"Uh, to perfect my figure skating skills!" Adrien decided.
"But you don't need him for that." Suddenly, Kagami let go of his hand and launched into a short routine of spins and twirls.
Adrien blinked at her presentation before an appreciative smile graced his lips. Kagami has so many talents, Adrien thought as she talked with that man who had been discussing something with Mayor Bourgeois.
Seamlessly, Kagami interlaced their fingers as she took his hand again and pulled him forward with her momentum. Glancing at his smile through the corner of her eye.
"Adrien Agreste, I can see it now!" The skating instructor (that's what he was) was suddenly beside Adrien. "Grace and style model! And professional ice skating champion! If you take lessons with me I'll have you shining like the candles on a birthday cake!"
Skating? Adrien had never thought about it before. "Uh, may-beeee!"
Kagami switched their positions so she was closest to the instructor. "He already does fencing with me," she informed him. And sped up with Adrien in tow.
Adrien stared at the back of Kagami's head. She was very assertive in her desires, bold even. Kagami knew what she wanted and wasn't afraid to go for it. He admired that about her, was drawn to it. Kagami would meet any challenge without backing down.
Just like Ladybug.
His fingers slipped from Kagami's grasp as he slowed to a stop. Staring at the floor as his cheeks burned not with embarrassment but shame.
"Adrien? What is it?" Kagami asked as she circled back.
Adrien smiled. "Nothing. I just have to use the restroom real quick." Turning, he let his smile fall as he left the rink.
Plagg poked his head out of his pocket once they were alone. "What's gotten into you, kid?"
Adrien stared at him. "I don't know."
Worry started to prick at Plagg's fur. "Adrien-"
"I don't know what I want, Plagg!" His heart hammered against his chest, pulse rising to his throat. "Kagami knows. Ladybug knows. Chat Noir thought he knew but... but I don't." Adrien wrapped his arms around himself, making himself smaller.
"... Listen, you're young right? Even by human standards? Like a freshly made wheel of Camembert."
Adrien frowned, turning away. "Plagg-"
"Hear me out!" Plagg zipped closer to Adrien's face, keeping in his line of sight. "But freshly made Camembert is terrible! It's got no flavor! No delicious scent! You need to let it age to bring out all the good stuff."
Adrien glanced at Plagg. Seeing his tail twitching in concern even if he wouldn't voice it. Strangely, Adrien understood what he was trying to say.
"All cheeses age differently. There's nothing wrong with taking your time." Plagg finished, not quite satisfied with how it came out.
Adrien smiled at him, reaching out to pet his head. "Thanks, Plagg."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah." Plagg let himself be petted. Not because he enjoyed it, of course. It just happened to make Adrien feel better.
Suddenly, ice started crawling up the walls. Magic coming from the ice rink. "Oh, no. Guess we have to go save the day," Plagg said, very disappointedly, yes.
Adrien grinned as he brought out the transformation cheese. "Uh-huh."
---------------
Chat Noir's good humor lasted until he spotted Ladybug on a rooftop. Oh. He didn't... want to see her right now. Reluctantly, he landed beside her. Doing his best to keep the conflicting emotions wrestling in his chest off his face.
"Chat Noir! We need to set up a trap for whoever turned the city into a giant ice rink." Ladybug anchored her yo-yo onto a nearby building, ready to take off.
Say something. Say something! "My feline instincts prefer to track and observe before I attack." Ha! Nailed it! Chat Noir scooted closer to the roof's edge as he scanned the frozen city.
Ladybug gave him a puzzled look. "What? Since when?"
Chat Noir pouted. "Rude."
Shaking her head as she fought back a fond smile Ladybug inched towards him. "We have to work together on this."
His hand rubbed the back of his neck, catching her eye. "I don't know. We don't have to do everything together. If we split up we'll have a better chance of finding him." Chat Noir jumped. "Race you!"
"Chat Noir, be careful!" Ladybug called out as he sped away. "... Okay, so he's acting weird. Not the first time he's acted weird. It'll be fine!" She cast her yo-yo and swung off. I hope.
---------------
Being by himself helped Adrien order his thoughts. His feelings were all over the place so he focused on doing what he told Ladybug he was gonna do. It was child's play to follow the only imperfection on otherwise smooth ice. Leading him to the Eiffel Tower where the akuma victim was hiding.
Okay. Now I just need to-
Frozer launched himself at Ladybug!
Acting quickly Chat Noir tackled Ladybug out of the way. Grabbing her hand and leading her onto the frozen Seine. Skating away at top speed to put some distance between them and Frozer.
"Thanks, kitty!" Ladybug smiled.
And Adrien smiled back. Confusing questions forgotten for the moment. Then Frozer launched shards of ice; Chat Noir letting go of Ladybug's hand so they could dodge it. Only then realizing that he'd been holding it at all.
"He's too fast!"
She was right. Frozer easily kept pace with them. Leaping into the air to launch more ice shards. Rounding a bend in the river they were out of sight for a second. Taking advantage of it to hide.
"I'm positive the akuma's in his skates," Ladybug stated once Frozer passed them.
"My Cataclysm could destroy them but he'd have to be up in the air... You were right My Lady. We're going to have to set a trap."
"You were right, too. We observed and now we know enough."
Chat Noir smiled. "Seems we're just missing a little push of luck to get the edge on him."
Ladybug nodded. "Lucky Charm!"
---------------
Adrien raced back to the ice rink. In the end the plan had been pretty straightforward. Ladybug baited Frozer into following her while Chat Noir laid in wait.
Business as usual. Except...
'Are you sure you're okay? You've been off since yesterday.'
'...I'm just figuring some things out. Might take me a while but that's okay... Thanks for worrying about me.'
Being around Ladybug didn't make him feel quite so sad anymore. Chat Noir meant it when he said her friendship was important to him, after all. And... Adrien was happy. That he could be normal around her.
He spotted Alya and Nino discussing something, waving at them as he looked for... There. Kagami was returning her skates. Adrien walked up to her, fidgeting with his ring. "Uh, hey, Kagami. Sorry I ran off like that."
"It is fine. We were interrupted anyway."
Adrien couldn't tell how she meant that but he took a deep breath and forged ahead. "So, I know I'm the one who asked you out and all. But..."
Kagami frowned. "Are you saying you do not wish to date me?"
"No!" Adrien waved both hands emphatically in the negative. "No, no, no! I just... wanted to say that I think we should take it slow."
She raised an eyebrow. "We go any slower and our pace will be glacial."
Adrien was 90 percent sure that was a joke... 80 percent. "W-well if you think it's too much of a challenge..."
Kagami's eyes widened at Adrien's audacity. She poked him in the chest. "Don't flatter yourself, Agreste."
Without thinking, Adrien grabbed her hand and kissed the back of her palm. Kagami's answering blush nowhere near as radiant as Adrien's. Why did I do that!? Who froze for a moment before turning around. "W-wouldn't dream of it... Ryuko."
"Ryuko?" Kagami raised a brow at the nickname.
Adrien's hand went back to rubbing his neck. "I can call you something else if you don't like it."
"No," Kagami decided, a small smile on her lips as she passed Adrien on her way to the exit. "Ryuko will do just fine."
"... So, that's a yes?" Adrien sprinted to catch up.
"Mm, perhaps if you define what you think 'taking it slow' is."
Adrien leapt in front of her and held out his hand. "Let us drive you home?"
Kagami blinked at the offered hand. Slowly reaching out for it. His palm was warm in hers. "Going slow is not too bad. I suppose," she relented.
Adrien beamed. "Oh! Just one last thing!"
--------------
Kagami entered the Agreste car as Adrien held the door open, sliding in behind her. "You're still doing what other people want."
"No, I just want him to be happy," Adrien countered. Giving the skating instructor free advertising didn't cost him anything. "Besides, how're we supposed to come back if it's a Chloe catered gym?"
"Back?" That sounded promising.
Adrien rubbed the back of his neck and couldn't quite look at her but he smiled. "Since our first date was cut short I was hoping we could try again."
Kagami gazed at Adrien as he fidgeted. "Just the two of us?"
"Y-yup!" Adrien's face burned.
"Good. You're crush on Nino was distracting."
"Wh-what!?" Adrien spluttered.
"... You're crush on Nino? I thought everyone knew. Personally, I prefer Alya but-"
"I don't- That is- I..." Adrien's shoulders slumped. "His eyes are so beautiful, it's like he stares into your soul."
Kagami's hands hovered awkwardly. "I am sorry. I thought you knew."
Adrien buried his face in his hands to muffle his yelling. "I thought I only had the one thing! This is... I don't even know how many things this is!"
Reaching for his hand again, Kagami squeezed it reassuringly. Back straightening as his grip turned out stronger than she expected.
He peeked at her through the splayed fingers covering his red face. Breath speeding up. "I... I don't..."
"You don't have to say anything. I know it is not easy to come to terms with."
Nodding gratefully, Adrien slowly took his hand away from his face. Taking deep breaths.
Kagami relaxed as Adrien did the same. This wasn't what she was expecting. But that wasn't necessarily a bad thing. Turns out, Kagami had been aiming at the wrong target too.
Adrien's grip eased as he looked up at Kagami. That was... certainly a lot. But Kagami hadn't turned away from him. Only a handful of people had ever seen him so vulnerable. And two of them preferred to pretend otherwise. But Kagami didn't pretend. And Adrien admired her for it. He smiled, wobbly and honest.
"Thanks... Ryuko."

In case it's unclear the two people Adrien's talking about are Gabriel and Nathalie.
*Rewatches Frozer (again) for this fic* ... If my friend fell and they said they didn't feel well I'd check up on them too. IDK why the the fandom- I mean, Plagg, is so hung up on that part.
I have taken liberties with the production of Camembert for this fic. Please, forgive my transgressions cheese enthusiasts.
